South Korea: Aircraft goes off runway and crashes into a wall, kills atleast 47 people onboard

In visuals that have surfaced on social media, the airliner could be seen bursting into flames. The front landing gear of the aircraft failed to deploy on time.

On Sunday (29th December) morning, at least 47 people onboard an airliner were killed after it went off the runway and crashed into a concrete fence at the Muan International Airport in South Korea.

The aircraft, identified as Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, was carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members from Bangkok to Muan.

In visuals that have surfaced on social media, the airliner could be seen bursting into flames. The front landing gear of the aircraft failed to deploy on time.

According to reports, 2 people onboard were found alive during the rescue operations. A total of 32 fire trucks and several helicopters were deployed to extinguish the fire.

South Korean acting President Choi Sang-mok has directed authorities to conduct an all-out rescue operation.

At the same time, his Chief Secretary will discuss the plane crash with senior presidential staff later on Sunday (29th December).
