All intelligence officials assigned to National Security Council must resign by 12:01 PM on 20 January, says Trump’s incoming NSA Mike Waltz

The Trump team is removing everyone from NSC as Trump’s first impeachment was led by NSC detailee Alexander Vindman

Donald Trump’s incoming National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has said that every intelligence official deputed to the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House will have to resign by 12:01 p.m. Eastern time on 20 January, the day Trump becomes the president for the second time. He said that every intelligence official from the various departments and agencies currently assigned to the NSC will have to leave the White House by that time.

In a phone interview with Breitbart, Waltz said, “Everybody is going to resign at 12:01 on January 20. We’re working through our process to get everybody their clearances and through the transition process now. Our folks know who we want out in the agencies, we’re putting those requests in, and in terms of the detailees they’re all going to go back.”

He said that he is making sure everyone understands that it’s “crystal clear what the agenda is.”

The National Security Council is led by the National Security Adviser who serves as the President’s primary advisor on security matters. Under the Adviser’s leadership, a team of political appointees works with a group of “detailees.” These detailees are career government employees from federal agencies and departments such as the FBI, CIA, NSA, Pentagon, and other intelligence or law enforcement organizations. They are temporarily assigned to the NSC based on their expertise in specific areas.

The NSC is divided into different issue areas, such as counterterrorism, cyber policy, or regions like the Middle East, Europe, or Asia. The detailees help connect the work of the NSC with their home agencies, making sure the entire federal government follows through on the president’s decisions.

During the first term, Trump faced opposition from some of the detailees in the NSC. This included Alexander Vindman who led the first impeachment of Trump by testifying before the United States Congress regarding the alleged Trump–Ukraine scandal.

Incoming NSA Waltz said that he is taking very serious steps to ensure that there are no more Vindmans during the second term. He added that it will be ensured that people who are brought in are 100 percent aligned with the president’s agenda.

He said, “a good portion of the NSC are detailees, out from the agencies, our team knows who we want to bring in and we’re putting those requests out and we’re going to bring them in.”

Earlier Waltz had posted on X that “anyone working under President Trump in the NSC will be fully aligned with his America First agenda.” Over concerns expressed by some over faulty appointments, he said, “Any rumors or suggestions to the contrary are fake news and a distraction from the mission. We will clear the decks to Make America Great Again!”
