Swati Maliwal testifies in court about getting death, rape threats due to Dhruv Rathee, Bibhav Kumar doubles down, says her wounds are ‘self-inflicted’

Bibhav Kumar, personal assistant of Aam Aadmi Paty’s national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is charged with assaulting the party’s Rajya Sabha member. He is currently in police custody and now Swati Maliwal has broken down during the hearing of the case in the national capital’s Tis Hazari court and levelled several allegations against the AAP supremo and his PA.

She charged that AAP workers and a YouTuber (Dhruv Rathee) uploaded a biased video without considering her side of the matter after which she has been receiving multiple rape and death threats. Furthermore, Swati Maliwal voiced that she and her family are in danger from Bibhav Kumar. She stated, “After this incident, I was repeatedly called a BJP agent. They have an army of trolls. The party has unleashed its entire might against me. There were constant press conferences against me. Bibhav Kumar is no ordinary man. If he comes out of jail, then it would be a risk to me and my family’s safety.”

Swati Maliwal expressed, “I was brutally assaulted. I filed a complaint. My party arranged press conferences and labelled me a BJP agent. The accused was being taken to Lucknow and other locations by the man in whose residence I was beaten. They have a very large machinery including trolls at their disposal and they have turned all of it against me.” According to her, Bibhav Kumar is not an average PA and enjoys the facilities that even ministers do not receive. She reiterated, “They have a huge troll machinery. All party leaders have been warned not to join me so I am compelled to withdraw my complaint. My family and I are traumatized.”

In court, Bhibhav Kumar, arrested for assaulting Swati Maliwal said that Swati had trespassed into the home of the Chief Minister without an appointment. He further said in court that the injuries of Swati Maliwal are not serious and the ‘wounds can even be self-inflicted’.

Bibhav Kumar was arrested on 18th May from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence after Swati Maliwal who is also the former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women submitted a complaint that she was intimidated and thrashed by him with “full force, slapping and kicking in the chest and abdomen” and her clothes were also ripped. Afterwards, Delhi Ministers Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bharadwaj addressed press conferences in support of the accused and slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for conspiring against Arvind Kejriwal with the help of Swati Maliwal.

Notably, AAP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh had already confirmed the assault and unveiled,” Yesterday, a condemnable incident took place. Swati Maliwal had gone to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet him. While she was waiting for him in the drawing room, Vaibhav Kumar allegedly misbehaved with her. The CM has taken cognisance of the matter, and he will take appropriate action,” and assured that the party was with her. He added that Arvind Kejriwal also took cognisance of the matter and would take appropriate action against the accused.

On 26th May Swati Maliwal called out YouTuber and AAP loyalist Dhruv Rathee for making a one-sided video regarding the incident. She disclosed that she was already receiving rape and death threats and the YouTuber’s video painted a bigger target on her back. She highlighted, “I tried my best to reach out to him to tell him my version but he ignored my calls and messages. It is shameful that people like him, who claim to be independent journalists could act like other AAP spokespersons and victim-shame me to the extent that I am now facing extreme abuses and threats.” She pointed out that the party’s leadership was intimidating her into taking back the complaint she had registered.

Delhi worst place to lose your mobile: Data shows recovery rate is lowest in National Capital, followed by Mizoram, Odisha and Punjab

Data from the Union Ministry of Telecommunications shows that the chance of recovering a lost/ stolen mobile phone is the lowest in Delhi.

According to the information provided by the government’s Sanchar Saathi portal, only 4893 phones have been recovered by the police out of 5,45,592 phones lost or stolen in India’s National Capital.

The recovery rate thus stands at an abysmal 0.90%. The situation is equally grim in Mizoram, Odisha and Punjab where recovery rates of stolen/ lost mobile phones stand at 1.75%, 4.91 and 5.02%.

Data on lost and recovered mobile phones in Indian States/ Union Territories

As per the data, the Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands fares the best at 28.81% when it comes to recovery of lost mobile phones. Arunachal Pradesh is placed second on the list with a 25.66% recovery rate, followed by Ladakh at 21.98%.

How to recover lost mobile phones in India

If you have lost your mobile phone, then it can be traced and subsequently recovered using a combination of the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) initiative of the Union Ministry of Telecommunications.

It must be mentioned that every cell phone has a unique IMEI number, like a fingerprint. Even if the SIM card is replaced, the phone can still be traced through its IMEI. You can request to block the IMEI number through the portal – https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/ after registering a First Information Report at the nearby police station.

Once this step is done, the phone cannot be used on any cellular network irrespective of the SIM card. The police can track your phone by containing the service provider and tracking the location. CEIR thus comes handy as a blacklisted mobile device will not work on other networks.

Interestingly, cheap and unbranded Chinese phones found in Indian markets lack 16-digit IMEI numbers, making it impossible for law enforcement authorities to track and recover such mobile phones.

It remains unknown whether the poor recovery rate of lost and stolen phones in the National Capital is due to the large-scale use of such Chinese phones by residents of Delhi.

‘You support BJP despite being a Muslim’: BJP worker in Mumbai’s Malvani assaulted by Nadir Mandap, believed to be a close aide of Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh

Mumbai’s Malwani neighbourhood, which had gained notoriety for its declining law and order, is once again in the news after a BJP worker was allegedly assaulted by a gang led by one Salman Nadir Sheikh aka Nadir Mandap for his support for the saffron party. In a complaint filed by the BJP worker, identified as Zahur Jalal Khan, Mandap and his gang assaulted him for ‘supporting the BJP despite being a Muslim’.

Khan wrote a letter to senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal and recounted his ordeal. In his letter, Khan stated that his family members, which include his wife and son, were intimidated and assaulted by members of Nadir’s family on May 21, a day after phase 5 of the general elections, when Mumbai had gone for polling.

When he confronted Nadir, Khan mentioned that Nadir and his family members assaulted him. “I was dragged by Nadir and other members of his family to my home, where they abused me, my wife, and my son, and assaulted them.”

“You support BJP and promote them in a Muslim area despite being a Muslim,” Khan said in the letter detailing the assault he allegedly faced from Nadir Mandap and his family.

Khan has additionally claimed that Nadim Mandap operates a gang in the area, engaging in threatening and assaulting individuals.

BJP Mumbai Social Media and IT Election Management Committee co-convenor Krunal Goda took to X, formerly Twitter, to share information about the matter. Goda has stated that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken cognisance of the matter and an FIR has been filed in the case. Pictures shared by Gowda show bandages wrapped on the injuries suffered by the victims in the alleged attack.

OpIndia called Malwani Police Station to seek details about the case. However, the police refused to share information and evaded answering the questions.

The BJP functionary has also stated that Devendra Fadnavis has guided local leaders to visit and reassure the BJP worker and asked the Mumbai Police to not just conduct an investigation into the matter but also initiate strict action against the culprits.

3 of the 9 culprits have already been arrested, Goda informed in a new tweet, adding that police are on the hunt for the main accused.

Nadir Mandap’s proximity to Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh who signed a mercy petition for 1993 Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon

It is notable to mention that Nadir Mandap is reportedly a close aide of Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh, who had helped Nadir get special permission to use MHADA ground despite the government agency’s objection.

Congress MLA from Maharashtra, Aslam Shaikh, was under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Environment Ministry in July 2022 for illegally operating film studios in Madh Island.

Shaikh, a legislator from Malad West constituency, had served as the Textile, Fisheries Department & Ports Development Minister during the reign of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

He was accused of flouting Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules and permitting the unauthorised construction of more than 2 dozen film studios on Madh Island. The Enforcement Directorate took up the matter after complaints were received by Environment and Forest Ministries.

Notably, Aslam Shaikh along with other colleagues wrote a letter in 2015 to then President of India Pranab Mukherjee, seeking clemency for convicted terrorist Yakub Memon. This was even though Memon was convicted over his involvement in the infamous 1993 bomb blast in Mumbai.

Encroachment, Hindu exodus, drug hub, and the pervading menace of Islamists: What’s ailing Mumbai’s Malvani

The entire episode, nevertheless, has once again brought to the fore the central issue plaguing Malwani for years. The region had gained infamy for the communal conflagration that routinely surfaces and creates law and order problems for the residents. In March 2021, the issue of Hindu exodus from Malwani, a predominantly Muslim majority neighbourhood, was raised by BJP leader Mangal Prabhat Lodha in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha.

Lodha’s comments followed his visit to Malwani in January 2021, when Hindu residents in the neighbourhood complained to him of persistent harassment by the Muslim ruffians to leave the region. Lodha had then filed a complaint with the local police and asked them to act against the hoodlums threatening the Hindu population.

The residents claimed that the goons enjoyed political patronage from the local Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh, also a cabinet minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Allegedly, emboldened by their leader’s support, the Muslim hooligans unabatedly encroached on their lands and built madrassas and dargahs on government lands, the victims claimed.

Besides appropriating their houses, the victims alleged that the Muslim goons were also responsible for rampant drug peddling, unauthorised constructions and other illegal activities in their neighbourhood.

In January 2021, the region hit the headlines after the arrest of three VHP leaders for putting up posters of Ram Mandir Nidhi Sankalan Abhiyan, a mass contact and contribution campaign for the construction of a Bhavya & Divya mandir at the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ramlalla in Ayodhya and then, filming while personnel of Mumbai police allegedly tore posters of Lord Shri Ram.

Jharkhand: Man walks in with a rifle in a bar in Ranchi, shoots dead the DJ, CCTV footage goes viral

In the early hours of Monday (27th May), an unidentified assailant opened fire at a West Bengal-based Disk Jockey (DJ) from close range, resulting in the DJ’s death. The victim, a DJ named Sandeep, also known as Sandy, was rushed to RIMS but succumbed to his injuries.

The disturbing incident took place at the Xtreme Sports Bar in Ranchi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chutia police station. It unfolded at around 1 AM and was caught on camera. The disturbing CCTV footage of the incident is now going viral on social media.

After receiving the information, Ranchi City DSP V Raman immediately rushed to the spot. According to the police, a clash erupted between two groups of intoxicated men over allegations of teasing girls. Later, one group called their friends, who arrived at the scene with batons and engaged in violent acts.

According to officials, four perpetrators stormed into Xtreme Bar and targeted DJ Sandeep. After the incident, they swiftly fled the scene.

While the motive behind the murder remains unclear, reports indicate that the firing incident may have stemmed from an altercation that broke out earlier in the evening. According to eyewitnesses, a tense exchange quickly escalated into a minor skirmish. But it was seemingly diffused. However, the issue reignited during the bar’s closing hours. As Sandeep and his colleagues were exiting, the assailants returned and opened fire at point-blank range, resulting in the death of the Bengali DJ.

SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha said, “A clash happened between customers and bouncers at the bar. It might be possible that one of those customers carried out this incident. We are searching for the culprits. The investigation is underway.”

The Police are analysing the CCTV footage, which has become a crucial piece of evidence in this case, to identify the culprits.

Mumbai: 20 Bangladeshis sentenced for illegally entering India; had obtained fake Aadhar, birth certificates, and even Indian Passports

Twenty Bangladeshi citizens were found guilty on 24th May by Maharashtra’s Mumbai Killa Court of entering India without any valid documents, and fabricating Aadhar cards, birth certificates, Indian passport and other documents claiming permanent residency. The court fined each offender Rs 4,000, and sentenced them to eight months in prison which will be increased to 16 months if the penalty remains unpaid.

The case dates back to 19th October of last year when Borivali police apprehended three citizens of Bangladesh, and submitted a First Information Report and placed them under arrest for multiple violations. Afterwards, the authorities nabbed seventeen other Bangladeshi nationals from Pune, Virar and Nalasopara. Two Pune-based agents who had played a key role in assisting the twenty infiltrators in creating Indian documents were also arrested during the probe. A charge sheet was submitted to the court by investigating officer PI Kale after he had all the required evidence from Bengal and Pune.

The Pune Commissioner had opened an investigation into the case, and suspended the concerned policemen from three police stations for their involvement in unlawful activity, and co-operating with agents to help with illegal documentation.

Four police officers from three Pune city police stations were revealed to have been involved in the passport verification process for the illegal Bangladeshis following a month-long investigation. An officer reported that constables assigned to the passport sections were deemed to have been reckless. A detailed report on this was given to Commissioner Ritesh Kumar by the local Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Ritesh Kumar conveyed, “We swiftly initiated an inquiry into this matter and appointed a DCP-rank officer for preliminary investigations. It revealed negligence by four police personnel assigned to passport verification duties at Yerwada, Wanwadi, and other stations. The inquiry is ongoing, and appropriate action will follow the findings. We maintain strict vigilance on illegal infiltrators, with about 42 cases registered against illegal Bangladeshis this year.”

Last month, five Bangladeshi nationals from Navi Mumbai were caught by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for living in the country without proper documentation. They were identified as Aahat Jamal Sheikh (22), Rebul Samad Sheikh (40), Ronney Soriful Khan (25), Julu Billal Sharif (28), and Mohammad Munir Mohammad Siraj Mulla (49). They worked as masons and hailed from two Bangladeshi districts. A complaint was launched by an ATS police sub-inspector, leading to the accused’s arrest under the Foreigners Act of 1946 and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules of 1950. They were held in custody pending additional investigation by Navi Mumbai Police, who also filed a First Information Report against them.

“Acting on a tip-off, the ATS led the operation and arrested five Bangladeshis, who were found living in India without valid documents. They were nabbed from Janai Compound and near Shivaji Talao, both in Ghansoli,” revealed an official. He added, “They were arrested under provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, following a complaint lodged by a police sub-inspector attached to the ATS. The Rabale police in Navi Mumbai registered an FIR and took the individuals into custody.”

Uttarakhand: Saif Ali poses as Sukhwinder to trap a Hindu girl, books hotel room with a fake ID; arrested

On Sunday (26th May), Haldwani Police arrested Saif Ali, who is accused of using the fake identity of a Hindu man to trap a Hindu girl in a Love affair. After getting information from Hindu activist groups, the Police caught Saif at a Private hotel near the Railway station in the Lalkuan Nagar area. The accused had booked a room in the hotel using a fake ID card. The accused had booked the room by showing an ID card in the name of Sukhwinder Singh but when the Police interrogated him, he revealed that he is a Muslim and his name is Saif Ali. The police are investigating the matter.

According to media reports, Saif Ali was at a private hotel named Avan Hotel near the Railway station in the Lalkuan Kotwali area. Hindu activist groups had received information that a Muslim youth had come to the hotel with a Hindu girl. Afterward, they informed the Police about the same.

After reaching the spot, the police checked the hotel register and found that the young man had booked the room by using a fake ID in the name of Sukhwinder Singh, whereas he belonged to the Muslim community and his name was found to be Saif Ali. Subsequently, the Police took him into custody. The accused is a resident of Lalpur of the Kichha Kotwali area of Udham Singh Nagar district.

As per reports, Saif Ali took the Hindu girl to the Lalkuan area on a Bullet motorcycle. The girl is said to be a resident of Dineshpur police station area. Police interrogated the girl and during interrogation, the girl found out that the person she came with was not a Hindu man but a Muslim. According to the information received, Saif Ali had lured the Hindu girl into a love trap by pretending to be a Hindu.

The Police subsequently informed their families. The girl’s family took her away without giving any complaint, whereas, a case has been registered against Saif Ali and his motorcycle has been seized.

The police informed that the young man has been arrested and is currently being interrogated. Further action will be taken based on the findings.

Uttar Pradesh: 15-year-old boy kills his 50-year-old rapist Hakeem Najakat; the Hakeem was earlier booked for cow slaughter and attempted murder

On 19th May a 50-year-old man named Hakeem Najakat, also known as Naju, was murdered by a 15-year-old boy in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. According to the minor, the deceased sexually assaulted him and recorded the horrific act on camera. Nazakat then used the video to blackmail the boy and regularly violate him afterwards, which infuriated the minor and he decided to end his rapist’s life. The boy has been taken into custody and the matter is currently under investigation.

Nazakat’s damaged cell phone has also been found by the police. His body was discovered in a room in his village in Paldi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station. Superintendent of Police (rural) Aditya Bansal stated, “The room was locked from outside. The corpse was sent for a post-mortem by the police and the minor boy was apprehended and questioned. The murder weapon and Hakeem’s mobile phone were recovered from the location revealed by him.” The police also examined all technical and forensic evidence. A case has been booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

The authorities were informed about the incident on 20th May after which they found Hakeem’s partially nude and blood-soaked body at his residence. He had a criminal past and has half a dozen crimes, including culpable homicide, attempted murder and cow slaughter, lodged against him. He worked as a “hakeem” (traditional Muslim doctor) and was involved in occultism.

The accused disclosed that four months ago, Hakeem Najakat had lured him away. He then proceeded to scare and molest him. Najakat also captured the incident on camera and used it as leverage to threaten him and repeatedly sexually abuse the teenager. Najakat even used knife and country-made firearm to intimidate him. On the fateful day when his wife and children were not home, Najakat called the boy there and once again attempted to rape him. Najakat even physically assaulted the boy when he resisted. The minor then attacked Najakat in self-defence. He used a dao (a kind of sword-like weapon), which was kept nearby to strike the man multiple times on his head.

The minor then washed the weapon, his hands and feet. He also broke the phone which he assumed contained his vulgar footage with a stake and quietly came out of the house through the roof. Afterwards, the boy hid the murder weapon in the ruins located in front of the mosque. It was a blind murder case, but when the inquiry was completed, the name of a 15-year-old boy from the same village surfaced, according to police station in-charge Brijesh Kumar. The adolescent admitted to the crime when he was arrested and interrogated.

From ThePrint to Pakistan, Muslim victimhood and false narrative on Delhi anti-Hindu Riots gets fanned by Reuters just in time for Lok Sabha elections

Amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a disturbing trend of biased reporting emerged as major international news outlets like Reuters and news portals like The Print propagated a one-sided, false and misleading narrative of the anti-Hindu Delhi Riots of February 2020. News portals from Pakistan and Bangladesh also fuelled the same narrative along the lines of Reuters and others. They blatantly ignored the brutal murders of several Hindus including IB officer Ankit Sharma, head constable Ratan Lal, Dilbar Negi and others, at the hands of Muslim mobs.

On 27th May, The Print and Pakistani paper Dawn published a wire report issued by Reuters that focused solely on the alleged Muslim victims of the riots. The report was a clear attempt to paint a picture of unilateral suffering and victimhood. The report quoted a person named Suhel Mansuri who claimed to have suffered several injuries during the riots. He claimed to have voted for “peace and brotherhood” amidst so-called rising religious tensions.

Source: Dawn Newspaper, a Pakistani Daily.

However, the report omitted the atrocities committed against Hindus during the riots. Not to forget, IB staffer Ankit Sharma’s body was recovered from a drain with multiple stab wounds. The gruesome image of his hand tied to rope while his body was still submerged in the drain still haunts the nation. Head Constable Ratan Lal was brutally murdered by a Muslim mob led by burqa-clad women. Dilbar Negi’s limbs were chopped and he was burnt alive. Negi’s charred body was recovered after the riots from the shop where he used to work.

The report also omitted the fact that Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) then-councillor Tahir Hussain was actively involved in instigating mob against Hindus. He is also an accused in Ankit Sharma’s murder case.

Similarly, a report from Pakistan Today, that was based on the report by Kashmir Media Service, a Pakistan-funded media outlet, described the Delhi Riots of 2020 as an “anti-Muslim pogrom”. The report highlighted the plight of Muslim victims such as Saleem Kassar who claimed to have lost his brother. However, these reports completely ignored the fact that in one of the cases, the court itself observed that the riots were anti-Hindu.

A flawed narrative

The dubious reporting by these outlets feeds into a false narrative that Hindus were behind the riots that took place on the 23rd and 24th February of 2020. The selective coverage is no less than a disservice to the truth and to the victims who lost their lives in the violence.

On the contrary, OpIndia’s detailed coverage of the Delhi Riots 2020 provided a stark contrast. We have documented how Muslim mobs brutally murdered several Hindus, destroyed properties in a planned way and attempted to destroy India’s image on international platforms.

It has come to light that several so-called activists, NGOs, and others were actively involved in planning the riots. Leaders like Tahir Hussain, activists like Umar Khalid, and Pinjra Tod, celebrities like Sushant Singh, and others played their role in not only fuelling anti-CAA sentiments but also ensuring there was violence in the national capital when then-President Donald Trump was on a visit to India. In fact, it was revealed during hearing of Umar Khalid’s bail plea that he was actively involved in creating narrative in favour of Delhi Riots accused for months before he got arrested and several activists and celebrities helped him.

Ignored facts and selective reporting

These reports quoted Muslim voters who expressed their dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and accused them of inciting hatred against Muslims. However, they either failed to address the concerns of Hindu residents who were victims of the riots or at least watered it down by placing their statements towards the end of the reports.

Political exploitation

On 21st May, The Telegraph wrote a detailed report on the matter and quoted Muslim victim Aish Mohammad, who allegedly lost his house and continued to suffer because of the persistent tension in the area where he lives. The report came days before when the people of Delhi voted in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

The portrayal of the events of the Delhi Riots just before elections by the International media and certain Indian outlets appeared to be driven by an agenda to paint the BJP and Hindus in a negative light while blatantly ignoring the involvement of Muslims and detailed planning by Muslim leaders and political vested interest groups that led to the 2020 violence.

UP: Shopkeeper Wahid Qureshi renames Punjabi Market to “Islamic Market”, prints name on carry bags, arrested after local traders raise alarm

In the Kosi Kalan area of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh, a shopkeeper named Wahid Qureshi changed the name of Punjabi Market to “Islamic Market” and got the same printed on his garments shop’s carry bag. On Saturday (25th May) an outrage erupted over this and local traders informed the police. As the incident sparked an uproar on social media as well, the police apprehended the “Trends Never Ends” shop’s owner Wahid Qureshi and another worker. The SDM court rejected the bail plea of Wahid Qureshi and sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

On Saturday, local traders at Punjabi Market noticed that accused Wahid Qureshi arbitrarily changed the market’s name to Islamic Market and got it printed on carry bags to publicise the new name. Following this, Vishwa Hindu Parishad city president Shrikant Chaudhary and local traders reached the police station and informed inspector Ajit Kumar about the matter.

Subsequently, a team led by post-in-charge Mohit Rana raided the accused Wahid’s shop and seized 25 kg carry bags with “Islamic Market” printed on them and closed the shop. Reports say that the accused Wahid ran away as police initiated action, however, Wahid along with a worker was caught and brought to the police station. After questioning, the police released the worker but imposed a challan on the accused Wahid Qureshi. Meanwhile, the Municipal Council served a notice to the accused and has sought a response within three days.

The executive officer of the Municipal Council (Nagar Palika Parishad) Nihal Singh said that only the council has the right to change the name of the market or locality, adding that Wahid Qureshi’s action is against the provisions given in Section 216 (2) of the UP Nagar Palika Act-1916.

Reports say that municipality officials have found that at one or two places, the names have been changed secretly and adding that they will take strict action against people involved. EO Nihal Singh said that an investigation is being conducted and notices will be issued in such matters adding that upon non-compliance, the complaint will be filed against the persons involved in changing the names of markets or localities arbitrarily.

7 questions that Mamata Banerjee govt must answer about the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata

Anwarul Azim Anar, a three-time MP of the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh visited West Bengal in India for “medical treatment” while he was lured to a rented posh flat in New Town area of Kolkata. A woman named Shilasti Rahman was used as bait to carry out grisly murder.

Several Bangladeshi nationals, including a few who illegally entered India took part in this gruesome incident, while the leader of this crime was an individual named Amanullah Aman – a notorious terrorist from Bangladesh who too entered West Bengal by illegally crossing the border.

Dhaka-based Bangla daily Jugantor in its report said, flat number 56 of BU block of Sanjiba Garden, an elite residence in Newtown, Kolkata was rented out by its owner – who is an officer of West Bengal’s excise department for 11 months to Bangladeshi national and mastermind of the murder named – Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman Shahin.

During interrogation, Shilasthi Rahman – the woman who was used for honey-trapping the Bangladeshi lawmaker said, while Anwarul Azim Anar was in the Sanjiba Garden apartment, he was forced to make a call to his friend Gopal Biswas, who hails from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal asking Indian rupees 420,000 in cash.

But Shilasthi is yet to reveal how this amount was taken or if it was delivered by Gopal Biswas himself. There are dozens of questions in the mind of the investigators – although they do not know most of the answers.

Will Mamata Banerjee speak out

Under such circumstances, as an investigative journalist it is my responsibility to ask several questions with the hope, West Bengal’s chief minister and top boss of Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee shall give replies:

1.The flat number 56 of BU block of Sanjiba Garden, an elite residence in Newtown, Kolkata was rented-out by its owner to a Bangladeshi national, who does not have legal status for hiring any property in India. Defying this law, how this apartment was rented-out?

2.According to media reports, this elite apartment is owned by an officer of West Bengal’s excise department, although his name is still unreported. My question here are – how this government official amassed such property, what is his annual income, does he own more of such assets in West Bengal, and how much tax he pays every year?

3.Media reports said, killers of the MP used a red-color vehicle. Have details of this vehicle, including registration number, name of the owner etcetera been already collected by the investigating agency in Kolkata?

4.As the media report said, MP Anar was forced to make a call to his friend Gopal Biswas, who hails from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal asking Indian rupees 420,000 in cash, can we ask – whether Gopal Biswas was a cashier of the slain lawmaker? Has he been interrogated by the Kolkata Police to know further details of his actual relations with Anwarul Azim Anar and why Biswas was keeping such a large amount of cash at home? Has it become a common practice in West Bengal of keeping large amounts of cash out of the bank?

5.Back in 2020, one of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested. Media reports said, the killer named Risaldar Moslem Uddin was arrested from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal after he succeeded in staying in West Bengal for more than 45 years. According to report by Anandabazar Patrika – a Kolkata-based media, Moslem was living in Thakurnagar area of North 24 Parganas. He was running a traditional herbal medicine shop there, identifying himself as Dr Dutta.

I would also like to ask Ms. Banerjee – why her government is allowing wanted terrorists from Bangladesh, along with extortionists, gangsters, contract-killers, smugglers and fugitives in living in West Bengal and by getting hold of Aadhar Card and Indian passport?

6. In my previous article I have stated, several influential leaders of TMC were having business relations with Anar, while a large portion of cash from the infamous SSC scam was sent to him for investing in businesses. Anar was connected to Partha Chatterjee through his nephew Prasanna Kumar Roy’s friend Shipan Kumer Basu. Basu, wanted by Bangladesh Police, has been living in West Bengal for almost two decades.

7. During his early life, Shipan Kumer Basu was an active member of ‘Purbo Bangla Communist Party’, an extremist Marxist-Naxalite group in Bangladesh. During those years, Shipan Kumer Basu has taken part in numerous forms of criminal activities including robbery, rape, extortion and murder. Later, Basu became a member of Anwarul Azim Anar’s transborder smuggling racket. Are Kolkata Police putting emphasis also on this matter?

It may be mentioned here that, according to media reports, there are several organized rackets active in West Bengal which help fugitives and criminals from Bangladesh and other countries, including Rohingyas from Myanmar in obtaining Aadhar Card as well as Indian passport. Later, these criminals, mostly wanted by law enforcement agencies, leave India for Dubai or other Western countries using Indian passports.

West Bengal as ‘safe haven’ for criminals

Earlier it was also reported that another killer of Bangabandhu, Abdul Majed was also arrested from West Bengal after many years. When it was obvious that Awami League would win the national election on June 12, 1996, Majed fled Bangladesh along with Dalim and Rashid. He first went to India at the time, then went on to Pakistan and from there to Libya. He later came back to India, though it is not ascertained when he began residing in India permanently.

Abdul Majed managed to get an Indian voter ID card in 2012 while in Kolkata. In 2017 he got an Indian passport. He used the name Ahmed Ali in the passport. The passport was valid up till 2027. Majed’s birthplace in the passport was recorded as Howrah, Kolkata. He was actually born in Borhanduddin, Bhola.

Majed got married for the second time while in Kolkata. After he went missing from Kolkata on 22 February, 2020 his wife Zarina Begum filed a general diary (GD) at the Park Street police station. While investigating this matter, the police found a bag in Majed’s house in which there was a passport, ration cards and other documents.

There was a photograph of a woman and three children in the bag too. The police suspect the woman in the photograph was Majed’s wife in Bangladesh, Saleha Begum. Majed’s wife in Park Street told the police that Majed never let anyone touch this bag. Whenever he came home, he would lock the gate from inside. He was known in Park Street as an English teacher Ali Ahmed. The local people thought he had graduated from St Xavier’s College. He would teach English at people’s houses and also was a money-lender. He lived in a rented house in Park Street but had made a Tk 2.5 million down payment on a flat in Taltola.

In February 2022, the West Bengal CID arrested a Bangladeshi terrorist named Noor Nabi Maxon, who was living in Madhyamgram area in 24 Parganas district in West Bengal by using a fake name as Tamal Chowdhury. Maxon – wanted in 17 cases including murder entered West Bengal in 2019. In Kolkata, he was running fish trade at New Market.

Most alarming fact is – Kolkata Police was compelled to arrest Maxon when Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies provided them details of Noor Nabi Maxon and requested to arrest this criminal. In March 2015, another top-terrorist from Bangladesh namely Mollah Masud was arrested by West Bengal police from Barrackpore under the North 24 Parganas district – again following a request from the Bangladesh side.

In May 2007, Kolkata Police arrested absconding Bangladeshi top terrorist Tanvirul Islam Joy. In October 2008, another top-terrorist from Bangladesh named Subrat Bayen – wanted by Interpol was arrested by West Bengal police from Karaya.

These are mere tips of the iceberg. According to law enforcement agency sources, there are at least 45 terrorists from Bangladesh living in West Bengal and continuing criminal and terrorist activities. It said, dozens of the members of Islamist militancy outfits such as Ansar Al Islam – local franchise of Al Qaeda also are using West Bengal as a safe haven.

There also is an allegation that in West Bengal, Bangladeshi gangsters, terrorists, smugglers, money-launderers and fugitives are investing significant amounts of cash in the stock exchange through third-parties.

Several Bangladeshi businessmen, including film producers are operating offices in Kolkata as cover for running money-laundering activities. These people, particularly film producers maintain deeper-links with influential leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) including several male and female members of Tollygunge film industry. Has Kolkata Police or law enforcement agencies in West Bengal ever investigated these matters?

Conclusion

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee owes a response to my questions if she believes – she or any of the leaders and members of her administration, including her Trinamool Congress are not linked to any sort of criminal activities and allegations brought in this article as well as my previous articles are false.

Although it is well-anticipated that Mamata Banerjee or any of the leaders and members of TMC shall not address these questions, as they fear – publication of further investigative reports on these issues actually shall result in opening of the tin filled with worms.

Mamata Banerjee would follow the rogue culture of denial to avoid being branded as godmother of crimes. In this case – I would like to say – her silence will compel me in further exposing much more details and bitterest fact.
