Israel-Hamas war not possible in India because we are Hindus, Muslims safe here: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

On 21st October (Saturday), RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat asserted that India has never seen conflicts over issues on which Israel and Hamas are fighting. He added that such conflicts never happened in India because this is the country of Hindus. He noted that Muslims are also the safest here and only a Hindu can do this. Hinduism respects all sects and faiths and all communities, including Muslims were secure and safeguarded in India, RSS Chief emphasised. 

He said, “In this country, there is a religion, culture that respects all sects and faiths. That religion in Hinduism. This is a country of Hindus. That does not mean we reject all other (religions). Once you say Hindu, it is not needed to be told that Muslims too were protected. Only Hindus do this. Only India does this. Others have not done this.” 

He further noted, “Everywhere else, strifes are underway. You must have heard of the war in Ukraine, the Hamas-Israel war. In our country, there were never wars on such issues. The invasion during Shivaji Maharaj’s times was of that kind. But we never fought battles on this issue with anybody. That is why we are Hindus.” 

Notably, on Saturday, he addressed a programme at a school which was organised to mark 350 years of the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. At the event, he made these remarks in the context of the ongoing Israel Hamas war.

During his address, he also heaped praises at Shivaji for his inclusive concept of Hinduism. He also clarified that Shivaji’s fight was against foreign invaders, not Indians. 

For this, he pointed out the strategic alliance between Shivaji and the Qutub Shahis, referring to them as converts. RSS Chief also shared anecdotes about Shivaji’s life emphasising that he was proud of being Hindu but not against Muslims.

Meanwhile, on 21st October (Saturday), Israel struck a terror compound under the Al-Ansar Mosque in Jenin in the West Bank. The Israel Defense Forces informed that the Mosque was used as a “command center to plan and execute terrorist attacks against civilians.”

Since the 7th October terrorist attack on Israel, the death toll has crossed 2,400 as Netanyahu vows to finish Hamas, and the IDF has been pounding Gaza in retaliation for terrorist attacks on civilians.

All 15 accused in 2005 Mau riots gangrape case acquitted, lawyer says mafia turned politician Mukhtar Ansari falsely implicated the accused

On Saturday (21st October), a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court acquitted all 15 accused in the 2005 Mau riots gangrape case.

On Saturday, the CBI court acquitted advocate Triveni Prasad and 14 other people of rape accusations after the CBI failed to support its charges in the chargesheet. Triveni Prasad said that back in 2005, when Mau used to be a stronghold of the mafia Mukhtar Ansari, cases were registered against him and other accused persons under the pressure of the Ansari and the then government. 

In this case, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against the accused persons on 4th October 2010. During the trial, Mau residents recorded their statements in support of the 15 accused persons.

“After one and a half months of the Mau riots, a rape case was lodged against 15 persons of Mau, including myself, under the pressure of the then government and Mukhtar Ansari,” said Triveni Prasad adding that even the court had raised questions over the CBI chargesheet.

During the hearing in the matter on Saturday, the lawyer representing the accused persons said that the minor victim of the gangrape was provided medical treatment one week after the incident. Moreover, medical examination of the victims was conducted over a month later. He added that even 65 to 70-year-old men were made accused in the case.

Notably, on October 15, 2005, when Uttar Pradesh’s Mau was burning in the fire of communal violence, a mother-daughter duo was allegedly gang-raped and their house was set ablaze by a mob in the City Kotwali area. The investigation into the matter was handed over to CBI in 2006. Since then the trial was ongoing and on October 21st, 2023, the court acquitted the 15 accused persons.

Mau Riots 2005

In 2002, Bahujan Samaj Party leader and dreaded gangster Mukhtar Ansari was re-elected as an MLA from Mau. Three years later, the infamous communal riots erupted in Mau. It is said that Mukhtar Ansari was the mastermind of the riots. In a conversation with OpIndia earlier this year, a social activist from Mau named Chhote Lal Gandhi detailed the atrocities of the 2005 Mau riots.

In June this year, Ansari was awarded life imprisonment in the 1991 Awadhesh Rai murder case.

BJP releases first list for Telangana assembly elections- Reinstated leader T Raja Singh once again fielded from Goshmahal constituency

On 22nd October (Sunday), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the first list of 52 candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. Out of the 52 candidates, 12 candidates are women, while 14 candidates belong to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe community.

In the 52-candidate list, BJP has fielded three of its sitting Members of Parliament (MP) to contest state assembly elections. These include former state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Bapu Rao Soyam, and Arvind Dharmapuri. Soyam will enter the election fray from the Boath seat, Dharmapuri will contest elections on the Korutla constituency seat and Bandi Sanjay Kumar has been given a ticket from the Karimnagar constituency.

Another prominent name on the list is Rajender Eatala who is a former member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi). BJP has fielded him on two seats, Huzurabad and Gajwel. On the Gajwel constituency, he will go up against the BRS Chief and current Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Similarly, in another high-stake election battle, BJP has entrusted Rani Rudrama Reddy to contest from the Sircilla constituency where she will be up against IT Minister K T Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister KCR.

The sitting MLA from Goshmahal, T Raja Singh, whose suspension was revoked earlier today, will contest from the Goshmahal constituency which he has been representing since 2014. 

Earlier in the day, BJP revoked the suspension of Hyderabad MLA T Raja Singh. In a post in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter), Singh thanked party leaders for revoking the suspension. 

Thanking the party, he also shared the letter revoking the suspension. The letter read, “Upon suspension, the Central Disciplinary Committee of the party had issued a show cause notice to you. This refers to your reply to the show cause notice. Your reply and explanation offered therein have been considered by the committee. Basis your reply, the committee has decided to revoke your suspension forthwith.”

Meanwhile, the candidate list was finalised by the Central Election Committee which held a meeting on Friday (20th October). The crucial CEC meeting was held under the leadership of Jagat Prakash Nadda. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah were also present during the CEC meeting.

The 119-member state Legislative Assembly will go for polls in a single phase voting that will take place on 30th November. The counting of votes will take place on 3rd December.

On 21st October (local time), the leader of Canada’s Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, strongly criticised Canadian Prime Minister Justine Trudeau over deteriorating relations with India. Poilievre slammed the Canadian PM for his approach to diplomatic relations with New Delhi, saying that he has become a ‘laughing stock in India’. He pointed out that Trudeau’s actions have made him a subject of mockery in the largest democracy on Earth.

The remarks were made during an interview with the Nepalese media outlet Namaste Radio Toronto. “Justin Trudeau is considered a laughing stock in India – the world’s biggest democracy,” he said.

When asked about the recent departure of 41 Canadian diplomats from India after their diplomatic immunity was revoked following escalating tensions between the two nations, Poilievre put the blame squarely on Trudeau. He accused the Canadian PM of ineptitude and unprofessionalism. He further noted that Canada is having significant disputes with major global powers, including India.

He said, “Justin Trudeau is not worth the cost after eight long years. He’s turned Canadians against each other at home and he’s blown up our relations abroad. He’s so incompetent and unprofessional that now we are in major disputes with almost every major power in the world, and that includes India.”

Poilievre pointed out that there is a need for Canada to establish “professional” relations with the Government of India. He pledged to restore a healthy relationship with India if he assumed the role of Prime Minister. He underscored the importance of constructive dialogue and accountability while acknowledging differences between the two nations. “India is the largest democracy on earth, and it’s fine to have our disagreements and to hold each other accountable, but we have to have a professional relationship,” he added.

When asked about the foreign relations of Canada with the US, Poilievre did not mince his words. He suggested that US President Joe Biden treats Trudeau with disregard and contempt. He said President Biden was “walking all over Trudeau and treating him like a doormat and slapping him around like a rag doll”.

Furthermore, Poilievre attacked the Canadian government for allowing China to interfere in the country’s internal matters. Pointing out the issue of alleged illegal Chinese Police Stations in Canada, he said, “Beijing is interfering in our country, opening and running police stations in Canada to abuse our people.” OpIndia reported that Canada has been helping China hunt for its fugitives for over two decades. Speaking on the attacks on Hindu temples and Indian diplomats in Canada, Poilievre vehemently denounced the attacks and deemed them unacceptable. He pledged to continue opposing such attacks and called for strict action against those who are responsible for the heinous crimes against Hindu individuals and religious establishments.

He said, “Conservatives share the Hindu values of faith, family and freedom. Freedom includes the ability of worship without fear or without vandalisation and I strongly condemn all the attacks on Hindu mandirs, threats against Hindu leaders, the aggression shown to, for example, Indian diplomats at public events is totally unacceptable.”

Will restore ‘professional relationship’ with India

While talking about what he will do to change the situation if he becomes the PM, Pierre Poilievre said that he will restore a “professional relationship” with India if he becomes the next Prime Minister. Poilievre said, “We need a professional relationship with the Indian government. India is the largest democracy on Earth. It’s fine to have our disagreements and hold each other accountable but we have to have a professional relationship and that is what I will restore when I’m Prime Minister of this country.”

According to the latest polls, Pierre Poilievre is favoured to become the next Canadian PM. According to a recent poll by Nanos Research survey, Poilievre is polling at 32.9 per cent, well ahead of his main rival, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who polled at 23.3 per cent. Conservatives earned the highest party power index score at 54.2 points followed by the NDP with 45.0 points, while Trudeau’s Liberals was at 44.4 points.

India Canada relationships

The diplomatic relationships between India and Canada have been deteriorating consistently. The last nail to the coffin was the false allegations levelled by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against India during an address in the Canadian Parliament, where he accused India of being involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Canada almost immediately fired an Indian diplomat after levelling the allegations. In retaliation, India also fired one of the top Canadian diplomats and issued a statement denying the allegations.

India accused Canada of false accusations and said Canada never presented any solid evidence supporting the allegations. Furthermore, India recently revoked the diplomatic immunity of 41 Canadian diplomats and asked them to leave the country. India has stopped visa services for Canadians. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs called Canada a safe haven for criminals, terrorists and gangsters. India also accused Canada of not fulfilling the terms of the extradition treaty as the latter failed to take action against the 20 most wanted criminals that India wanted Canada to extradite.

Nawaz Sharif returns to Pakistan from exile, says he rejected $5 Billion offer from Bill Clinton to stop Nuclear tests

On Saturday (21st October), Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan from his self-imposed exile in the United Kingdom. Upon his return, Nawaz Sharif addressed his supporters at a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. During his speech, Nawaz Sharif said that Bill Clinton had offered $5 billion to him for not conducting nuclear tests in 1999. Nawaz Sharif was talking about the achievements of his tenure when he recalled how he rejected a $5 Billion offer from the then-US President.

Nawaz Sharif, 73, has returned home in a special flight from Dubai after ending his four-year exile in the UK to lead his party and seek a record fourth term in the general elections likely to be held in January 2024.

Sharif arrived in Lahore, considered a stronghold of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. He said, “I am meeting you today after many years, but my relationship of love with you people remains the same. There is no difference in this relationship. I’m proud of the love I see in your eyes.”

Sharif recalled heavy pressure from foreign governments in 1998 when Pakistan wanted to respond to India’s nuclear tests. He said, “There will be a record in the Foreign Office that Clinton offered me $5 billion. It happened in 1999. I could have been offered $1 billion too. But I was born on Pakistani soil and that did not allow me to accept what was against Pakistan’s interest.”

He targeted his main rival Imran Khan during the speech and said, “If there was another individual in my position, could he have said this in front of the American president? However, we gave a befitting reply to India’s nuclear tests by conducting our own.”

The leader of the PML-N expressed deep concern about the current dire state of the country, yet simultaneously pledged to steer Pakistan back onto the path of progress. Shehbaz Sharif, his younger brother, held the position of Prime Minister from 2022 until earlier this year, when the Parliament was dissolved, and a caretaker Prime Minister assumed office before the general elections.

The leader of the PML-N ascended to power for the 3rd time in 2013, and initially, it appeared likely that he would be 3rd time lucky and become the first Prime Minister of Pakistan to serve a full term. However, as his relationship with the influential Pakistan Army worsened, Nawaz Sharif was removed from his position on corruption allegations, paving the way for Imran Khan.

Following years of trials and numerous convictions, Nawaz Sharif eventually left the country on medical grounds. Despite court orders for his surrender, the former Prime Minister evaded arrest until the Pakistan Army got fed up with his successor Imran Khan, leading to the ascent of Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shehbaz Sharif to power.

Varanasi court rejects plea seeking ASI survey of the ‘Wazukhana’ inside Gyanvapi complex, says it will violate Supreme Court order

On Saturday (21st October), a Varanasi Court rejected a plea seeking the inclusion of the “Wazukhana” in the ongoing survey by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inside the disputed Gyanvapi complex. The plea sought that the ASI team conduct a survey of the Wazukhana (excluding the Shivling) without causing any damage to it.

Rakhi Singh, who is plaintiff number 1 in the Shringar Gauri Worshipping case 2022 pending before the Varanasi Court, filed the plea through her counsel Saurabh Tiwari under Section 75 (e) and Order 26 Rule 10A r/w Section 151 of the CPC.

The main argument stated in her application was that a survey of the Wuzukhana excluding the Shivling is required to determine the religious character of the disputed Gyanwapi premises.

District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishwesha while rejecting Singh’s plea stated in his order that the Supreme Court, in its May 17 ruling last year, ordered that the area where the Shivling is said to have been discovered be duly protected, and thus it is not appropriate to direct the ASI to survey the space as it would be in violation of the Supreme Court’s order.

The District Judge further stated that the specific region was excluded from the scope of the ASI survey ordered by his court in the 2022 action via an order dated July 21, 2023.

Meanwhile, Singh’s lawyer, Advocate Saurabh Tiwari, said that he will file an appeal with the Allahabad High Court.

On Thursday this week, during the hearing in the wazukhana lawsuit, the Hindu side’s lawyer, Madan Mohan Yadav, argued that the truth about the Gyanvapi complex could not be uncovered without a survey of the wazukhana. The mosque management committee, however, objected, saying to the court that the wazukhana area had been locked on the Supreme Court’s directives. The Muslim side accused the Hindu side of making an attempt to put the matter on hold by making such demands.

Notably, the ‘Wazu’ area of the Gyanvapi mosque is the centre of the Gyanvapi mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple dispute between Hindus and Muslims since the Hindu parties assert that ‘Shivling’ has been found in that spot, however, the Muslim side disputed the same and claimed that it is only a water fountain.

On 21st July 2023, the Varanasi court gave a nod to the petition filed by the Hindu side, seeking a scientific survey of the Gynvapi structure in Varanasi by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

US: Thousands of anti-Israel protesters waving Palestinian flags clash with NYPD after shutting down traffic in Brooklyn, refuse to leave

Police and anti-Israel demonstrators clashed in Brooklyn, New York on 21 October night as thousands of people poured into a neighbourhood that is primarily Middle Eastern and Arab. Thousands of the protestors chanted, “Move cops, get out of the way. We know you’re Israeli-trained,” and set small fires in the middle of the roadways as well as blocked traffic in the Bay Ridge area. Furthermore, they refused to leave the Bay Ridge street they had inundated for hours.

As night fell, members of the procession which was advertised online as ‘Flood Brooklyn for Palestine’ began to grapple with New York Police Department (NYPD) officers as their numbers swelled to an estimated 5,000 over the course of the day. The authorities attempted to escort the protestors out of 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue where they had stopped traffic. Notably, NYPD officers prevented pro-Israelis from joining the procession which could have resulted in greater chaos and violence.

Armed with Palestinian flags and placards in hand, much of the group defied police orders. The belligerent people dug their heels into the ground and demanded that the Western power sever its support for its closest Middle Eastern partner after which a number of demonstrators were arrested and brought into jail.

It was unknown whether those apprehended by police were formally arrested or given summonses but the NYPD stated that about twenty people were taken into custody during the unrest. The massive protest had begun a few hours earlier in one of New York City’s largest Arab and Middle Eastern communities.

Officers started pulling people from the overwhelming gathering and from one pick-up vehicle that carried the ralliers in an attempt to put an end to the unruly demonstration. A law enforcement source informed, “It got pretty heated.” Protesters kept chanting and shouting in the streets and also built little barbecue fires on the road while some of them threw eggs at the swarming police officers.

They yelled slogans like, “Say it loud, say it clear, we don’t want no Zionists here,” from within the frenzy which police had mostly contained to the area at 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue. “We will free Palestine within our lifetime,” others cried as they held signs displaying sentiments such as, “We stand with Palestine,” and “Once upon a time there was humanity,” among other things.

Meanwhile, more radical attendees who ranged in age from seniors to preteens brandished signs bearing crude writing declaring, “Zionism is genocide” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied.” The statements seemed to downplay, if not outright deny, the crimes committed by Hamas since 7 October including the abduction of multiple Americans and Israelis in what appeared to be a declaration of war.

One protester yelled, “We are calling for the full liberation of all of Palestine, to every single inch, from river to sea,” echoing the mantra employed by Hamas terrorists and those who support them in their opposition to the Jewish state.

A woman who was sporting a T-shirt from the radical communist group Within Our Lifetime, one of the event’s organisers, continued, “We are not like other groups simply calling for a cease-fire. We are calling not simply for an end to genocide. We are calling for an end to the siege, an end to the blockade. An end to the occupation.” One participant was observed with a repugnant poster of someone tossing the Israeli flag into the trash.

Thousands of females were part of the march which quickly became violent as dusk approached. In addition to the local Palestinian population, a number of other, primarily Middle Eastern  groups were present for what Within Our Lifetime had billed as an opportunity to ‘stop US-sponsored genocide in Gaza.’

However, as the afternoon wore on, more people arrived and 5th Avenue was essentially closed for several hours. Police had initially been monitoring to make sure the protest remained peaceful, but they had to intervene when people turned aggressive and threw the entire gathering into turmoil.

Signs circulated by the expanding group accused Joe Biden and other US politicians of “killing babies” through the use of the Israeli military before at least a dozen people were taken into custody. A lot of the inscriptions visible in the throng contained profanities and some of them even charged that Americans were “having blood on their hands” for their continued support of Israel in the fight.

There were even a few Jews present at the scheduled demonstration and one of them remarked, “As a Jewish person, I don’t want the Jewish religion to be the reason for this occupation.” Another person gave an explanation for her presence and conveyed, “All we’re asking is just treat the Palestinians as humans. They deserve every human right as any other civilians. Just treat a human as a human. That is all we are requesting.”

Does TMC have something to hide: BJP questions the silence of Trinamool Congress in Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra’s case

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted sharply to a Trinamool Congress spokesperson’s statement that the party won’t comment on its member of parliament Mahua Moitra‘s corruption scandal. BJP has questioned if TMC’s lack of response implied that it has “something to hide” or that it acknowledges the grave accusations made against the Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonwalla took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask if TMC’s official stand meant that it acknowledged that Mahua Moitra committed grave violations, such as providing her login credentials to a competitor corporate entity for use from overseas in exchange for bribes.

“If so, then why is TMC still retaining her rather than sacking her,” he questioned. He also inquired whether TMC is hesitant to take any action against her because it has “something to hide” and added that maybe some in the party knew or approved of it.

Earlier, BJP’s media head and co-in-charge of its Bengal operations Amit Malviya stated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “abandonment” of Mahua Moitra was not surprising. “She will defend no one else but Abhishek Banerjee (her nephew), who is no less delinquent. Several TMC leaders are in jail on serious corruption and criminal charges but Mamata Banerjee has maintained radio silence”, he posted.

The TMC leadership has been quiet over the serious allegations levelled against its member Mahua Moitra. Party spokesperson and West Bengal general secretary Kunal Ghosh refused to comment on the issue and stressed, “No comments. Regarding this issue, the All India Trinamool Congress will not say a word. We have nothing to say. The person may explain or answer the issue. We are observing the matter and gathering information, but we don’t want to comment now.”

BJP’s Nishikant Dubey has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and requested an investigation into the assertions that she traded her parliament login credentials with the businessman for monetary benefit.  However, she has trashed the allegations.

The MP from Gonda has also sought a Lokpal probe against Mahua Moitra. He revealed that he possessed a letter from Supreme Court attorney Jai Anant Dehadrai that contained “disturbing facts with detailed proof.” His complaint pointed out, “In the letter, Mr Dehadrai provides in great detail how, when and where Ms Moitra received bribes from a businessman Shri Darshan Hiranandani.”

Hiranandani also confirmed the same and highlighted that the MP frequently asked him for favours, including pricey luxury goods in an affidavit. He further mentioned that Mahua Moitra provided him with her login credentials for the parliament. He disclosed that she believed that attacking billionaire businessman Gautam Adani and his company, Adani Group would make her famous.

‘My encounter may take place, anything can happen’: Azam Khan while being shifted to Sitapur Jail from Rampur Jail

Days after getting a seven-year jail sentence in a fake birth certificate case, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan expressed his apprehension about getting killed in an encounter. While being shifted from Rampur jail to Sitapur jail on Sunday (22nd October), Azam Khan said “Hamara bhi encounter ho sakta hai (My ‘encounter’ can also happen). Kuch bhi ho sakta hai (Anything can happen).”

At around 5 in the morning, the police began shifting Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatma and son Abdullah Azam from Rampur Jail to different jails in the state amidst heavy police presence. They have been transferred on the directives of the government, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Sansar Singh.

Azam Khan has been transferred to Sitapur Jail in an early morning shift from Rampur Jail. Abdullah Azam, on the other hand, has been transferred from Rampur to Hardoi jail. He was taken to Hardoi jail at about 8:20 AM, and refused to talk to journalists. Azam Khan’s wife Tazeen Fatma will remain lodged in Rampur Jail. All three were kept in Rampur Jail.

Notably, on 18th October 2023, Azam Khan, his son Abdullah Azam, and Azam Khan’s wife Tanzeem Fatima were sentenced to seven years in prison. The MP-MLA court in Rampur has found the three guilty of illegally acquiring a fake birth certificate for Abdullah Khan and awarded the sentence.

They were convicted under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged [document or electronic record]) of the Indian Penal Code.

Abdullah Azam, who won the 2017 Lok Sabha elections from the Swar constituency, was charged with using a counterfeit birth certificate since he hadn’t reached the required age during the election. He was also convicted of possessing two birth certificates. In addition, Azam Khan has been convicted in two cases. In December 2022, he was sentenced to three years in jail by the court, after which he lost his assembly membership. Earlier this year, Akash Saxena won the Rampur by-election and became the first Hindu MLA from the Rampur assembly seat. Azam Khan, Abdullah Azam and Tanzeem Fatima have been sentenced to seven years each on the complaint of Akash Saxena.

On Saturday, 21st October, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (First), Amit Yadav, delivered a 4-year prison sentence to three former officers involved in an embezzlement case dating back to 2003 under Puranpur Police Station, Pilibhit. The individuals, who had retired prior to the resolution of the case, were found guilty of misappropriating Rs 170.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, the investigation was conducted by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) following government directives, ultimately resulting in a fine of Rs 16,000 imposed on the offenders in addition to imprisonment.

Three officials from the Pilibhit zone have been found guilty of fabricating a payment to a home guard for a two-day period, despite the guard’s absence. Among the convicted individuals is a retired officer from the Puranpur block, along with a company commander and a platoon commander. It is notable that the Home Guard, Suraj, has already passed away.

Suraj Prasad, a Home Guard assigned to night duty at Ghungchai, was reported absent from his duties on 10th September, 2003, by Munshi Rajaram of the outpost in the General Diary (GD). Suraj returned to duty on the 13th of September 2003, and the entry of his return was also noted in the General Diary. Based on these records, it was deduced that Suraj was absent from 10th September to 12th September 2003.

The September muster roll, prepared by Platoon Commander Chuni Lal, indicated the absence of the Home Guard only on September 11, with records showing the guard’s presence on the 10th and 12th of September. Company Commander Abdul Nafees endorsed the muster roll with his signature before submitting it to Puranpur Block Officer Roshan Lal Verma. Subsequently, the document was forwarded to the district commandant for payment.

Consequently, the home guard was paid Rs 2465 for 29 working days. Suraj, the home guard, received Rs 170 for two days, despite his absence on September 10 and 12. In light of these findings, the court found Suraj, Chunni Lal, Abdul Nafees, and Roshan Lal Verma guilty, handing down jail sentences and imposing a fine of Rs 16,000 on each of them. Suraj has already died. The three others will now face the jail term.
