Watch: South Korean Embassy wins hearts as the Ambassador and staff dance to RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ song

RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” song continues to hold its spell.  On February 25, Saturday, the Korean Embassy in India shared a rendition of the Oscar-nominated song on Twitter.

Sharing the dance cover video on Twitter, the Korean Embassy in India wrote, “We are happy to share with you the Korean Embassy’s Naatu Naatu dance cover. See the Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok along with the embassy staff Naatu Naatu!!”

In the 53-second Korean envoy, Chang Jae-bok performed the hook step of the Naatu Naatu song while other workers were also seen grooving. Netizens were elated to see the Koreans dancing to an Indian song.

A Twitter user named Shivangi wrote, “Wait wait wait now the Oscar will go to Ambassador Chang for giving a tough competition to @tarak9999.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Loved it, Grateful to the Korean Embassy.”

“This is so wonderful to see – cultural exchange between two countries that share many cultural similarities,” ‘Fair&Square’ wrote.

The ‘Naatu Naatu’ song originally features Telugu actors Jr NTR and Ramcharan. Interestingly, the song was shot at the Mariinsky Palace, the Presidential Palace of Ukraine located in Kyiv. The shooting took place in August 2021 as a part of the final shooting schedule in Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially resides in the palace.

The Telugu song Naatu Naatu was composed by MM Keeravani and the lyrics were written by Chandrabose. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava are the singers. In January this year, Naatu Naatu won the Best Original Song trophy at Golden Globes 2023.

The Telugu action film “RRR,” directed by SS Rajamouli, won four awards at the 2023 HCA Film Awards on Saturday, including the best international picture and best action film.

The Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) conducted the celebration at the Beverly Wilshire in Los Angeles on Friday night. The film also received the prize for best stunts, and its Oscar-nominated song “Naatu Naatu” won the prize for best original song.

The fictional pre-Independence story “RRR” centers on Alluri Sitarama Raju played by Ram Charan and Komaram Bheem played by Jr NTR, two real-life Indian revolutionaries in the 1920s.

On Ahmedabad Foundation Day, read about trail of destruction of Hindu temples in the city by the Islamic Sultans

On 26th February 1411 Ahmed Shah (First), the self-proclaimed “Nasir-ud-dunya Wad-dín Abul fateh Ahmed Shah” laid the foundation of a new capital city on the banks of Sabarmati which was earlier known as Asawal and ruled by Asha Bhil. The ancient city in western India was also known as Karnavati. In the name of making a new capital city, Ahmed Shah (First) of the Gujarat Sultanate destroyed old temples around and went on to build Islamic structures on the temple sites using the temple rubbles.

As Ahmedabad ‘established’ by Ahmed Shah turns 612 and enters into the 613th year on 26th February 2023, let us not forget the tyranny this land has survived. The era of the Gujarat Sultanate has turned this land of temples into an abode for medieval Islamic structures which are built on the temple sites using the rubbles of the same temples destroyed by the barbarians.

Muzaffarid Dynasty

Barring invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni, Muhammad Ghori, Mamluk, and Qutubuddin Aibak, the land of Gujarat remained under the control of Hindu Rajput kings of Gujarat till 1297 when Alaudding Khilji defeated Raja Karnadevaraya of Anhilwada (present-day Patan). Gujarat remained under the control of the Delhi Sultanate till 1407 when Zafar Khan – who in 1391 was appointed as a governor of the Delhi Sultanate declared himself an independent ruler of the Gujarat area. As this invader was also called Muzaffar Shah, this dynasty is called the Muzaffarid dynasty. This Muzaffar Shah destroyed the Somnath temple twice.

We have mostly heard of Somnath Mandir invasion and destruction by Islamic invaders. However, in Ahmedabad alone, dozens of temples were destroyed and even today Islamic structures stand on the ruins of our temples. In the book “Hindu Temples – What happened to them?”, historian Sitaram Goel covers 9 out of 18 such sites in the Ahmedabad district area.

The 18 structures in Ahmedabad cover the sites in Patan, Asawal, and Chandravai areas. The Palace and Citadel of Bhadra, Ahmed shah’s mosque in Bhadra, Jami Masjid of Ahmed Shah, Haibat Khan’s Mosque, Rani Rupmati’s Mosque, Rani Bai Harir’s Mosque, Malik Sarang’s Mosque, Mahfiz Khan’s Mosque, Sayyid Alam’s Mosque, Pattharwali Mosque, Sakar Khan’s Mosque, Baba Lulu’s Mosque, Shykh Hasan Muhammad Chishti’s Mosque, Mosque at Isanpur, Mosques, and Mazars of Malik Shaban, Rani Sipri, and Shah Alam, and the Maqbara of Ahmed Shah.

Besides this, a mosque each in Dekwara, Isapur, Usmanpur, Ranpur, and Paldi is built on a temple’s site. Some of them are built by Delhi Sultanate while others were built by the Gujarat Sultanate. There are six sites in Dholka that are having Islamic structures built by destroying a temple or by using temple material. They are – the Mosque and Mazar of Bahlol Khan Ghazi, Mazar of Barkat Shahid, Tanka or Jami Mosque, Hilal Khan Qazi’s Mosque, Khirni Mosque, and Kali Bazar Mosque. All six structures are built in the 14th century when Gujarat was ruled by Delhi Sultanate.

Sayyid’s Mosque and Jami Mosque in Mandal are built by razing temples. The Dargah of Shykh Ahmed Khattu Ganj Bakhsh and the Maqbara of Sultan Mahmud Begada both are built using temple materials.

Here is how Islamic rulers of present day Ahmedabad destroyed our temples.

Ahmed Shah (First)

Ahmed Shah (First) was the grandson of Muzaffar Shah. He laid the foundation of what is known as Ahmedabad today. He destroyed many temples and converted them to mosques and other Islamic structures.

The Twitter handle of “Reclaim Temples” documents such occupied Hindu sites where Islamic tyrants have built Islamic structures. It tweeted, “Ahmed Shah’s Masjid in Ahmedabad Gujarat is a Hindu temple seized and converted to a Masjid by Sultan Ahmed Shah 1 in 1414 AD. Hindu temple ceilings, pillars, motifs, and other temple designs can be seen. However, all the sculptures of Hindu Gods were removed.”

In the next tweet, “Reclaim Temples” says, “Jama Masjid Ahmedabad in Gujarat is a Bhadrakali temple which was forcefully converted into a Masjid by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1415 AD. Garbhagrihas, the mutilated sculpture of Hindu Gods, Hindu temple motifs prove that it is a Hindu temple under Muslim occupation.”

The Dargah of Shykh Ahmed Khattu Ganj Bakhsh in Sarkhej is also built by this Ahmed Shah. Ahmed Shah’s tomb is situated near Jama Mosque in Manek Chouk of Ahmedabad and it is built using temple material. He also built the Citadel of Bhadra from the rubble remains of Bhadrakali Temple. He ruled the Gujarat sultanate from 1411 to 1442 and destroyed many other temples to convert them into Islamic structures in his 32 years of rule.

Mahmud Begada

Mahmud Begada ruled the Gujarat Sultanate for 54 years that is from 1458 to 1511. Out of around 166 years of the Gujarat Sultanae’s Muzaffarid dynasty rule, almost 87 years of rule is under Ahmed Shah (First), and Mahmud Begada. This Mahmud Begada is called Begada because he won two important forts (gadh) of Junagadh and Pavagadh. Be means two in Gujarati. Gadh means fort. This Mahmud Begada was more fundamentalist than the earlier Sultans of this dynasty. In 1472, he destroyed Dwarka, one of the four most holy places of Hinduism.

He spread Islam wherever he attacked. He destroyed temples and built Islamic structures on those sites. Talking about Ahmedabad in particular, suburbs like Alimpura, Isanpur, Islampur, and Vatva – all of them were populated by his nobles who were not so noble in fact. Many mosques are built in these areas in his tenure, most of which are originally temples that were converted to mosques. Malik Sarang – one of his governors – was Rajput by birth. Sarangpur suburb and Malik Sarang’s mosque are named after him. The whole Gujarat Sultanate and this dynasty had many such converted commanders. He would win during the border expansion, asking the captive king to accept Islam, and killing the king who refused.

In Ahmedabad, Mahmud Begada built Rani Rupmati Mosque. He also destroyed the Kalika Devi temple on Pavagadh in Gujarat. Begda had completely destroyed the Shikhara and then to further insult the Hindus, right where the Shikhara was there in the garbhagruh (sanctum sanctorum), a Dargah of one Sadanshah Peer was constructed. After the attack, for over 500 years, no Dhwaja was unfurled at the Mandir. In Hinduism, it is considered inauspicious to unfurl a Dhwaja on a Shikhara that is destroyed. Hence, for over 500 years, Maa, in her own temple, was stuck under a Dargah. The Dargah has now been shifted and the temple reclaimed in 2022. Finally, the Dhwaja flies on the mandir decades after it was destroyed by Islamic invader.

Mahmud Begada would use conquered temple sites for funerals and would make tombs inside the sanctum sanctorum. His burial site is also a temple converted to Maqbara. It is located in the Sarkhej area of Ahmedabad. His wife Rajbai (originally a Hindu woman) is also buried in a similar manner. This is in addition to major temples destroyed and converted to mosques by him in Junagadh, Vadodara, Bharuch, and Surat when he was alive.

Bhadra Fort and Jami Mosque

Bhadra Fort is the place where the Rajputs of Gujarat ruled the old city. The tyrants of the Gujarat Sultanate just reinforced the old structure, yet most Marxist and Islamist historians tend to credit Ahmed Shah (First) for its construction. The fort surroundings had an ancient temple of Bhadra Kali that is the goddess Lakshmi. It was desecrated and converted to a mosque by Ahmed Shah (First). He also desecrated a temple inside the fort to build a mosque.

Remains of colonial rule

Teen Darwaza, Sarkhej Roza, Shah Alam’s Roza, and Siddi Sayyid Mosque are among other remains of the colonial rule of the Gujarat Sultanate that can still be seen in Ahmedabad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on the occasion of the 75th independence day that people should get rid of the symbols of colonial rules and embrace the future of New India.

Whether Ahmedabad manages to reclaim its lost heritage, only time will tell. But one can always read history to know about the ruins on which it was built over 600 years ago.

Pakistan: First transgender news anchor in the country shot at in Lahore, was receiving threats for raising the voice for her community

0

The first transgender news anchor in Pakistan, Marvia Malik, was reportedly attacked outside her residence in Lahore on Thursday. According to reports, two unidentified gunmen fired at the 26-year-old news anchor while she was returning from a pharmacy. Malik narrowly escaped the shooting attack.

Malik told police that she had been receiving threatening calls for some time for raising the voice for the transgender community in Pakistan and cited her activism as the reason behind the attack.

Malik, who had fled Lahore fearing for her safety, had returned to the city for a surgery when the attack occurred.

She stated that her advocacy for the transgender community was a “major factor” in the assassination attempt.

Malik made history in 2018 when she became the Islamic Republic’s first transgender news anchor. She was engaged by Pakistan-based Kohenoor News, but she admitted in multiple interviews that landing the feat was not simple.

Before becoming a news anchor, Malik created history by becoming the first transgender model at a prominent fashion show held annually by the Pakistan Fashion Design Council, according to reports.

“Like other trans people, I did not get any support from my family. On my own, I did some menial jobs and continued my studies. I had always wanted to be a news anchor, and my dream came true when I got selected,” she told American broadcaster Voice of America in a telephonic interview.

She hopes that her work will change people’s perceptions of the transgender community. “If given the chance, transgender people are equally capable of doing anything,” she told the news agency AP in an interview. “Our degrees are of no use…even if we seek jobs, we get rejected due to our identity, I want to change this mindset,” she said.

Islamic and Christian groups, organisations linked to Maoists organise an event on alleged ‘Adani Scam’ in Mumbai

After the opposition parties including Congress and George Soros made insinuations about collusion between the Modi government and the Adani group, an event is now being organised for holding a discussion on the alleged ‘Adani scam’. However, the event is being organised by known anti-India groups, which include Muslim groups and groups linked with Maoists.

A public meeting is being organised on March 2, 2023, to discuss the topic ‘Decoding the Adani scam’ at the Patrakar Bhavan near Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The event will feature speeches by Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, Ravi Nair, advocate Mihir Desai and Feroze Mithiborwala. The event is being organised by freedom fighter GG Parikh, but the list of organisers of the event shows the true nature of it.

The title of the event is ‘Decoding the Adani Scam’, showing that their organisers have already decided that there is a scam done by the Adani group. It is notable that on January 24, a US-based short-selling firm, Hindenburg Research published a ‘malicious’ report targeting Indian conglomerate Adani Group and wiped out over ₹10 lakh crores of investors in the process. Adani group has denied the allegations.

Interestingly, the event is being organised by several organisations which have nothing to do with the share market or investors. If the Adani group scammed, they scammed investors in share markets. Therefore, any discussion on the issue should be held by investors or organisations working for investor rights. But the names of the organisers of this event are: People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Sarva Shramik Sangh, Maulana Azad Vichar Manch, National Alliance of People’s Movements, Indian Muslims for Secular Democracy, Bombay Catholic Sabha, Dalit Panther Samanvay Samiti, Bharat Bachao Andolan & Maitree Sanstha.

This shows that Christian and Muslim religious groups, and leftist groups are organising the event. While talking about the same, popular Twitter user Alok Bhatt wrote, “Yes Adani issue is all about stock valuations and that is why the orgs of Catholics, Muslims, Commies and Dalits etc are talking about.”

One of the organisers of ‘Decoding the Adani Scam’ happens to People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), which has known links with Maoists. PUCL is connected to the urban naxals, who were nabbed by the Pune police in 2018. Bhima Koregaon violence accused Sudha Bhardwaj and Stan Swamy were connected to the outfit. The PUCL and the organisations that it is associated with has a history of ties to Naxals and separatists in Kashmir as well as Manipur.

In September 2022, PUCL asked to lift the ban on the Popular front of India (PFI). Notably, the ban was imposed on PFI for five years by the Union Home Ministry for its involvement in anti-India activities.

A statement said that a dialogue with the PFI should be started. The organisation demanded that the authorities refrain from using their arrest powers arbitrarily to target Muslim youths based on their involvement or support of the PFI and its affiliates.

It urged that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the NIA Act be repealed but that, in the meantime, the NIA Act be altered to guarantee that the State government concerned was contacted, and approval was obtained before the NIA conducted a search or arrest a resident of that State.

Furthermore, PUCL also condemned actions against dubious journalist Rana Ayyub who was accused of misusing money collected through donations during Covid, and former Amnesty India employee Aakar Patel and even the raids on The Wire’s office in November last year.

PUCL connected to George Soros though Colin Gonsalves

Advocate-cum-activist Colin Gonsalves has represented PUCL in the courts on multiple occasions, including the ‘Right to Food’ case. Interestingly, he is the founder of the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) which operates under the aegis of the Socio-Legal Information Centre. It has received funds from George Soros’s NGO in the past.

Some of the efforts HRLN has been involved in include the campaign against ISKCON’s Akshaya Patra, a campaign against Indian sedition laws, and it has been providing free legal aid to Rohingya Muslims in India.

It has also been engaged in activism for the implementation of the RTE Act that works against Hindu-run institutions. Furthermore, HRLN is also linked to a plethora of organizations across the country that seeks to undermine India’s territorial integrity.

Members of the Right to Food Campaign (RFC), an organization HRLN is linked to, were also involved in the protest against then CJI Ranjan Gogoi that sought to undermine the legitimacy of the Indian Judiciary.

National Alliance of People’s Movements

Another organisation behind the event is National Alliance of People’s Movements, with which several professional protestors are associated. It is an alliance of several activist groups in India, and the people behind it include Medha Patkar, Aruna Roy, Baba Amte and many others. Sandeep Pandey, an activist in the organisation, was sacked by Banaras Hindu University in 2016 for his links with Naxalites and for being involved in anti-national activities.

Flagged off from Varanasi on January 13 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the world’s longest river cruise ‘MV Ganga Vilas’ will culminate its journey on February 28 in Assam’s Dibrugarh.

A welcome ceremony will be organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India in Dibrugarh on the same day. The event will be graced by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal along with other Union Ministers, State Ministers, diplomats and officials of IWAI and MoPSW.

‘MV Ganga Vilas’ a cruise vessel made in India, began its journey from Varanasi on January 13 after being flagged off by Prime Minister Modi. The cruise will cover a distance of 3,200 km in over 50 days before reaching Dibrugarh on February 28 via Patna Sahib, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, Dhaka, the Sundarbans and the Kaziranga National Park. Built with a unique design and a futuristic vision, the cruise has three decks and 18 suites on board with a capacity of 36 tourists. It is already booked for the to and fro journeys for the next two years.

Union Minister Sonowal said ‘MV Ganga Vilas’ has put India and Bangladesh on the river cruise map of the world thus opening a new horizon and vertical for tourism and freight carriage in the Indian subcontinent.

“Tourists seeking spirituality can visit destinations like Kashi, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, and Patna Sahib and those keen on witnessing the natural diversity will cover destinations like Sundarbans and Kaziranga. This route heralds a new chapter for freight carriage through inland waterways both for India and Bangladesh. Now through this journey, tourists have an opportunity to go onboard an immersive experiential voyage and explore the art, culture, history, and spirituality of India and Bangladesh along the entire route,” he added.

North East has a huge potential for freight carriage through National Waterways (NW). These National Waterways provide hinterland connectivity to the states of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh also and connect these States with mainland India and seaports of Kolkata and Haldia through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route.

Several projects for developing inland water transport infrastructure namely fairways, terminals and navigation aids have been completed by IWAI in the North East region and some of them are in progress. As per an IWAI internal study conducted in 2017, 49 MMTPA of cargo moves in and out of the North East Region and 30 MMTPA of cargo moves within the North East region.

Indian Covid-19 vaccine drive saved more than 34 lakh lives: Stanford University report

The Covid-19 drive undertaken by India and the lockdowns to prevent its spread saved more than 34 lakh lives and prevented a loss of over 18 Billion US Dollars, a report by Stanford University has said.

The working paper by Stanford University and Institute for Competitiveness titled ‘Healing the Economy: Estimating the Economic Impact on India’s Vaccination and Related Issues’ was released by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday, February 24.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Mandaviya shared that India has carried out the largest vaccination campaign in history, providing over 2.2 billion doses to people over the age of 12 with 97 percent coverage of the first dose and 90 percent coverage of the second dosage.

He further said, “Much before Covid-19 was declared a public health emergency by World Health Organization (WHO) in Jan 2020, processes and structures to focus dedicatedly on various facets of pandemic management were put in place. India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted a ‘Whole of Government’ & ‘Whole of Society’ approach in a proactive, preemptive and graded manner thus adopting a holistic response strategy, for effective management of Covid-19.”

The report said the vaccination prevented a total loss of $18.3 billion, with the net benefit standing at $15.4 billion after accounting for the cost of the vaccination drive. The report reflected that the benefits of vaccination exceeded its cost and suggested that vaccination should be considered a macroeconomic stabilizing indicator and not just a health intervention.

According to the Stanford report, the direct and total impact of vaccination varied from about $ 1.03 billion to $ 2.58 billion if minimum wages are considered within the age distribution category.

“The same, however, varied from about $3.49 billion to $ 8.7 billion if GDP per person employed (constant) is considered. The cumulative lifetime earnings of the lives saved through vaccination (in the working age group) rolled up to $ 21.5 billion. Moreover, since vaccination also saved the lives of the elderly, this indirectly helped prevent the health infrastructure from getting overwhelmed and thereby allowing for more judicious use of the existing health infrastructure,” the report suggested.

India started the administration of Covid-19 vaccines on 16 January 2021. As of January 2023, India has administered over 2.2 billion doses overall, with over 95% of the population receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.

Delhi Riots 2020: Three years on, family of a man killed by an Islamist mob over a ‘Jai Shri Ram’ sticker on his motorcycle still awaits justice

You may recall the riots that occurred in North-East Delhi in February 2020, during which Hindus were targeted and killed. A group of Muslim extremists took to the streets armed with weapons, led by AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, who had turned his own home into a base for the rioters. Individuals such as Umar Khalid from JNU incited hatred towards Hindus under the guise of protesting against the CAA-NRC. Sadly, among those who lost their lives in these riots was Vinod Kumar.

During the murder of Vinod Kumar, his son Nitin, also known as Monu, was present. Following his father’s brutal death, Nitin shouldered the responsibility of supporting the family. However, even after three years of the incident, the wound remains fresh, and the family feels great sadness upon hearing news of the accused being released on bail. Additionally, the family is struggling financially, with a seven-year-old and a two-year-old among their children.

OpIndia recently interviewed Monu, the son of the late Vinod Kumar, to gain insight into the family’s current situation. Monu shared that his DJ work has been steady and that everything else seems to be normal. However, he added that he earns no more than Rs 5-7 thousand per month from this work and that there are no other sources of income for Nitin’s household. He also explained that when his father was alive, they did not face any significant financial struggles, but now he is solely responsible for all the family’s financial obligations.

Nitin’s elder son is studying in the first grade, while the younger one is currently being homeschooled. There are four people in the household who rely on Nitin for support. He also mentioned that he has not been called for any hearings related to his father’s murder case in court. They are told to expect a call and show up at the court on a certain day, but the call never comes. In the past three years, they have not attended any hearings in court.

Vinod Kumar

Nitin, the son of the late Vinod Kumar, has said that due to his DJ business, many people in the local area know him, and there is a higher Muslim population there. Some Muslims also come to him for DJ services. However, Nitin does not provide DJ services to Muslims nor does he set up DJ systems in their areas. He mentioned that he is the sole breadwinner of the family and is afraid for his life, therefore, providing DJ services to Muslims is not safe for him.

When Nitin’s father was murdered, he had to stay in the hospital for five days for treatment because he had several injuries to his head. Nitin is grateful to God that no one in his family got sick and they did not have to run around hospitals. No politician or official has come to ask about him in the past year. He has not received any compensation or financial assistance since his father’s death.

Nitin has requested the government to provide him with employment opportunities and ensure the education of his children, rather than providing him with financial assistance. He shared that he had filled out a form but did not receive any money. During the MCD elections, no leader from any political party approached him. Nitin is concerned about securing admission for his children to a good school. He also revealed that most of the people who were involved in his father’s murder were outsiders, primarily Muslims.

Vinod Kumar, a resident of Brahmapuri, was brutally beaten to death in front of his son Nitin Kumar alias Monu on the ghastly night of 24 February 2020. The duo was returning home on a motorcycle around 10:30 pm when a mob assaulted them with stones and lathis. Their motorcycle was also set ablaze by the bloodthirsty mob after they found the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ sticker pasted on it.

‘Attack on me by the TMC goons is an attack on democracy’: MoS Home Nisith Pramanik after his convoy was pelted with stones in West Bengal

On Saturday, February 25, MoS Home Nisith Parmanik’s convoy was attacked in the Dinhata area in the Cooch Behar district in West Bengal. The Union Minister was on his way to the BJP’s local office when the attack happened. He alleged that the attack was carried out by Trinamool Congress-backed supporters.

The TMC supporters allegedly threw stones at the minister’s car and cracked the front windshield. Black flags were also shown to the minister.

“My convoy was not only pelted with stones but also shots were fired. Bombs were also hurled. The entire incident happened in front of the police, and they were just mute spectators,” Pramanik alleged, adding that the TMC was sheltering the attackers.

Taking to Twitter the Union Minister said, “The attack on me by the TMC goons is an attack on democracy. The entire nation is watching how democracy is being crippled by TMC sponsored & supported terrorism. It is a proof of the complete failure of law and order in the state of West Bengal. Shame! #bengalviolence.”

“If a central minister’s car is attacked in this manner, then think about the security of the common people in the state,” Bengal BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said, adding that the Governor should initiate steps to impose Article 355 in the state.

Responding to the allegation, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh accused the Bengal BJP leadership of “instigating” its workers to disrupt the “peaceful” atmosphere of the state.

“The BJP workers ransacked the TMC party office in Dinhata and attacked our workers. The people in that area are angry over the BSF’s killing of a Rajbanshi youth last year. Pramanik is a minister of that department,” he said.

Mos Home Nisith Parmanik’s convoy attacked in West Bengal with stones and sticks

Notably, Pramanik’s convoy was attacked in November last year in the Sitai area of Cooch Behar. Speaking to the media, minister Nisith Parmanik had then stated that the route for his convoy was mapped by the state police and asked how could his convoy be under such threat. He added that the miscreants carrying sticks and stones were gathered despite the police presence. “BJP workers won’t sit quiet when their minister is attacked in front of them”, he added.

However, the Bengal police have claimed that the scuffle broke out because the minister’s supporters argued with the people holding black flags. Coochbehar SP has stated that the minister had about 50 bike riders accompanying him and a scuffle broke out between the supporters on bikes and the people carrying black flags.

Telangana: Dr Saif harasses junior anesthesiologist Dr Preethi, forces her to attempt suicide, arrested after police confirm ‘targeted harassment’

0

On Friday, the Telangana Police arrested Dr. MA Saif, a second-year MD student at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal district in connection with the suicide attempt by Dr. Preethi, his junior at college. Early on Wednesday morning, Preethi was discovered unresponsive in the MGM Hospital staff room while on duty. She is said to have attempted suicide by injecting anesthesia drugs due to Dr. Saif, who is accused of harassing Preethi and forcing her to try ending her life.

According to the reports, the incident happened on February 23 but the police arrested the accused on Friday, February 24. Police have cited ragging-related laws and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in addition to charges of abetment to suicide against the accused. The cops are still awaiting the toxicological examination findings for definitive proof.

Commissioner A V Ranganath confirmed that the woman felt persistent targeted harassment and intentional attempts to degrade her by Dr. Saif. Meanwhile, accused Dr. Saif argued differently and blamed it on the prevailing culture among juniors and seniors in a medical school.

Preethi, who is receiving medical care at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad after experiencing a multi-organ failure, is still in serious condition. A hospital announcement from Thursday night stated that ECMO and CRRT were instituted to maintain her failing cardiac, lung, and renal functions. A multidisciplinary team of experts is continuously monitoring her vital signs.

Junior physicians at KMC-Warangal have called for a protest over this incident. Several medical professionals held signs that read, “Pray for Preethi, Stand with Saif” on Friday.  In an earlier statement, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association expressed solidarity with Preethi’s family while denouncing the accusations against Saif as untrue. Medical professionals have asked that allegations against Saif be withdrawn since they claim that interactions between senior and younger batches of medical professionals are routine.

Ranganath, however, stated that based on the legal definition of ragging, the police have used certain sections of the law. Although it may be a normal practice, it is unacceptable if one individual felt targeted. Saif believes he was merely correcting Preeti. He stated, “She felt harassed at work.”

Police examined Preethi’s and Saif’s phone, says Preethi was harassed

After examining Preethi and Saif’s cell phones, the police concluded that Preethi had been subjected to harassment. Ranganath said that police had mostly relied on discussions between the two and their group chats, as well as personal chats with other classmates, ruling out sexual harassment or a love component to the event.

Ranganath stated that Preethi had been targeted ever since she started working in the anesthesia department in November 2022. He asserted that she was a brave girl who challenged elders, which irked the latter. In their private WhatsApp group, on February 18, Saif reprimanded Preethi for a specific incident. She told Saif, feeling personally offended, to mind his own business. “You are trying to insult me. In case you have anything to say, you should tell my HoD,” she added. The inquiry, according to the authorities, revealed several such occurrences.

The last time, Preethi’s father D Narender and his daughter talked was on the evening of the incident. D Narender is an ASI with the Railway Protection Force. Preethi was allegedly being made to put in extra hours by Saif, who reportedly consistently spotted flaws in her work. The father attempted to get in touch with the police, and on the same evening, he orally complained to the local sub-inspector.

The sub-inspector brought up the matter with Dr. D Mohan Das, the college’s dean, and Dr. Nagarjuna Reddy, the department’s head. Ranganath stated that Dr. Reddy first spoke with Saif and then Preethi. Denying incompetence on the part of the institution, the commissioner maintained Saif had received warnings against such behavior and that an additional investigation had been initiated.

Dr K Ramesh Reddy, who is the director of medical education, had earlier ruled out ragging as the cause and said that Preethi and Saif were counseled over their personal differences.

The authorities think Preethi injected herself with a muscle relaxant from the anesthetists’ emergency supply box. Injections of more comparable medicines have also been discovered. “We think she attempted suicide. The last search on her phone is about what happens if a healthy person takes this drug. Doctors believe it was a cardiac arrest. We are awaiting the toxicology examination report in one or two days,” said the commissioner.

Tribal Unions held protests outside NIMS

Meanwhile, as Preethi continued to battle for her life, several members of the tribal union reached NIMS hospital on Thursday to extend support to Preethi. Tribal unions additionally questioned the delay in prosecuting the case’s defendants.

In response to her father’s complaint, Kethavath Gopi Singh Naik of the Banjara Vikas Samithi urged action from the KMC HoD and Principal, as well as the police. According to Dr. Preethi’s cousin B. Deepika Naik, VIPs would have made a beeline for her if she had come from a wealthy background.

“They do not even have the time to have a word with the parents and assure justice. They might be of the thought that tribals are helpless and cannot do anything. If justice is not served, we will agitate and tandas from across the state will come together,” she said.

Warangal Commissioner of Police A V Ranganath has however confirmed on Friday the arrest of the accused doctor. He stated that the Mattewada police had already registered a case against Dr Saif under SC/ST atrocities act and a probe in the case was going on. The MGM hospital has also constituted a committee to conduct a detailed inquiry and a report would be submitted to the Mattewada police, KMC authorities said.

‘You should be ashamed that you couldn’t even respect your father’ – Yogi Adityanath to Akhilesh Yadav in assembly: read what happened

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath today came down heavily on the Samajwadi party for patronising criminals and mafia in the state during its rule. During the course of his speech, leader of the opposition Akhilesh Yadav intervened several times, objecting to various comments made by the CM. But Yogi Adityanath shut him down every time with strong replies.

In one such moment, the CM said that Akhilesh Yadav should be ashamed that he had failed to respect his father late Mulayam Singh Yadav. This was following a heated debate between the two over the murder of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj yesterday. Umesh Pal was a prime witness in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, and former SP MP Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim, also SP leader, are the prime accused in the case. Atiq Ahmed is a mafia don turned politician, and Yogi Adityanath cited his example to show how Samajwadi Party patronised and glorified criminals and organised mafia gangs.

‘Tese criminals and these mafias, after all, who harboured them? Is it not true that the mafia against whom the FIR was filed by the victim’s family was made MP by Samajwadi Party?’ the CM said. Yogi Adityanath also said ‘Mafia ko mitti mei mila denge’, reiterating his govt’s efforts to crush the organised mafia in the state.

Akhilesh Yadav objected to comments by the CM, saying the CM can’t say ‘mafia ko mitti mei mila denge’. He said this is the wrong language, and only the law can take action against the mafia, not the government. The speaker countered him by saying that there is nothing wrong in promising against the mafia, but the SP chief didn’t relent, saying it is wrong to say ‘mafia ko mitti mei mila denge’.

Yogi Adityanath taunted SP further on this, pointing out how the party is opposing taking action against criminals. He said that this is not new for SP, as they had earlier said ‘ladke hai galti kar dete hai’. He was referring to the infamous ‘boys make mistakes’ comment by Mulayam Singh Yadav over rape. In 2014, the former CM had said that rapists should not be sentenced death penalty because they are boys and boys make mistakes, saying the rape cases are just mistakes by boys.

Many such comments were made at that time, the CM said. He said that he is astonished that now the same people are talking about security and democracy. Akhilesh Yadav didn’t like that his father’s infamous quote was cited by the CM, and he said to Yogi ‘sharam ane chahiye’ (you should be ashamed).

However, Yogi Adityanath quickly retorted by saying, “sharam toh tumhe karni chahiye, jo apne baap ki samman nahi kar paye tum (you should be ashamed, you couldn’t respect even your father).”

‘At least you should have shame on this. Is this how you should behave? I have not named anyone but the remarks were made and there should be discussions on those remarks,’ the CM said. He asked why there should not be discussions on the matter of SP patronising criminals.

Yogi was referring to the fallout between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav. In 2016, Mulayam Singh Yadav had expelled Akhilesh Yadav from the party for six years following differences over several issues. However, the decision was later revoked on 21 December 2016 after a majority of party leaders and legislators stood behind Akhilesh. Following this, Mulayam Singh Yadav was gradually side-lined in the party, and Akhilesh Yadav had brought the party under his full control.
