Two days after protests broke out in Chandigarh University over a student allegedly filming her hostel mates changing clothes and taking showers, two videos have been found in the mobiles of the accused that will now be sent for a forensic probe. One video is that of the accused girl while the other one is of some other girl, ANI quoted the accused’s lawyer Sandeep Sharma as confirming to the media.

Notably, the Mohali Police and the Chandigarh university had maintained that the accused girl shared videos only of herself, and they did not find videos of any other girl on her mobile in the preliminary investigation.
Meanwhile, all the three arrested accused, which include two men and one female student from the college itself, have been sent to 7-day police remand. Additionally, Chandigarh University officials have suspended two hostel wardens, including one who can be seen in the video that was allegedly leaked.
On September 18, the third accused in the Chandigarh University Video Leak case was detained from Shimla. The 31-year-old man was the second accused held by the Police from Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, the accused female student of the University and a 23-year-old man from Shimla were arrested by the Police.
Meanwhile, on the intervening night of September 18 and September 19, the Chandigarh University students ended their protests after Police and University administration assured to fulfill their demands. The students had been protesting over the alleged video leak case where a female student at the University allegedly sent nude videos of other female students to a man in Shimla.

On September 18, it was reported that a girl student of Chandigarh University allegedly sent a nude video of around 60 female students to a man in Shimla. Reports further suggested around eight female students attempted suicide, and one of them died. However, Mohali Police and later University Administration released multiple statements refuting the claims. They said that the accused sent her videos only to the person, and no other girls’ videos were sent or found on the recovered devices. They also refuted the claims that girls committed suicide and said no one had died. A couple of girls fainted during the demonstrations and were rushed to the hospital.
Chandigarh University is a private university based in Mohali, Punjab, about 20 kms from Chandigarh, the state capital of Punjab and Haryana.
Several recent reports indicate that the demographics along the Nepal-India border are quickly changing. The number of mosques and madrasas is steadily growing. The OpIndia team toured the border areas from August 20 to August 27, 2022, to assess the ground reality of the demographic change in the area. We have been reporting what we have witnessed in chronological order. This is the fourteenth report in the series.
In the last report, we highlighted the Mazars, mosques, and madrasas erected along the route leading from Balrampur district headquarters to the Nepal-Badhni border. In this report, we interviewed local people and elected authorities. They all agreed that, in addition to the Islamic places of worship in Nepal’s border areas, the population of the Muslim community has grown dramatically in recent years.
‘Anyone who denies any aspect of Islam is a Kafir’
We came across two madrassa students while we were having our vehicles fueled on a petrol pump near Gainsdi. They were each about ten years old. They both stated to be natives of Bankatwa village. They both stated that they are studying the Quran. When we asked them what a Kafir is, they answered that anyone who denies any aspect of Islam (Deen) is a ‘Kafir.’

No Hindu head in Ranwari village since independence
We halted for a bit at the village of Ranwari on the Balrampur-Tulsipur road. We met Anoop Pandey, the husband of Gram Pradhan of Bhagwanpur village, who had arrived there for some business. Anoop’s wife is the Pradhan of Bhagwanpur, a village adjacent to Ranwari. Anup Pandey stated that 80% of the people in his adjacent village Ranwari are Muslims.
With this, he stated that, even after independence, Ranwari has never been able to elect a Hindu head of the village. According to Anoop, the village of Ranwari is dominated by Muslims, and Hindus live in terror. He stated that the village has a population of 2645 individuals, with around 600 Hindus, out of which most people are from backward castes.
Saudi return Muslims create a fuss
According to Anoop Pandey, while the Hindus and Muslims of the village have lived in harmony in the past, in recent years, the new generation of Muslims, especially the ones who return from Saudi Arabia, have been inclined towards radicalisation and Islamism, creating rifts with the local Hindus.

According to Anoop, Ranwari village has three mosques and three madrasas. He went on to say that there is a huge difference between the previous Samajwadi Party government and the current Yogi government. He stated that Hindus feel protected under this regime.
Attempts to construct Islamic places of worship in a village with no Muslims
Anoop Pandey stated that there are no Muslims in his village of Bhagwanpur, but an attempt was previously made to construct a mosque there. He also stated that the mosque could not be erected owing to residents’ resistance. Anoop, on the other hand, stated that Karbala was already constructed in his village, where an attempt was made to erect a Mazar.
We are safe under the present government in the state
Mangal, a Dalit resident of Ranwari village, spoke with OpIndia. He told us that he is safe since Yogi Ji is in the state. He also emphasized the existence of other Hindu-majority villages nearby as factors for his safety. Mangal said that under the previous government, their lives were all at risk.

Increase in the Muslim population and mushrooming of Islamic places of worship
In Tulsipur, we met CP Mishra, a journalist from the Balrampur district. During our conversation, he said unequivocally that the Muslim population in Balrampur district had grown faster than the Hindu population. Along with this, CP Mishra informed us that while Islamic religious places were hardly visible in the district throughout his childhood, they are now visible everywhere.

Loudspeakers still intact in mosques
Saroj Kumar Mishra, the brother of the village head of Ganeshpur Dhawai, which borders the Pachpedwa police station area of Balrampur, spoke with us. He admitted that the Muslim population and places of worship in Nepal’s border areas had grown substantially in recent years. He stated that while the law and order situation has definitely improved under Yogi government, there are still issues. He added that despite government action, local mosques still use loudspeakers for azan.
The Muslim population increased from 30% to 50% in the village
Saroj Mishra, approximately 40 years old, informed us that in his childhood in his village Ganeshpur Dhawai, Hindus were around 70% and Muslims were around 30%, but currently the ratio is 50-50. Mishra informed us that under previous regimes, even Durga Puja music was halted at the time of Azan. He said that at that point, the generator had to be turned off and the battery tweezers had to be removed.
Saroj Mishra informed us that Muslims in his region get funds from cities such as Hyderabad in order to carry out Islamic religious activities. According to him, this contribution is only made to a few people. Saroj further stated that Azaan’s voice may still be heard via loudspeakers. According to Mishra, it sometimes appears that we are in Pakistan and not in India.
Saroj told us that when they celebrated Durga Puja for the first time in 2009, there was a dispute. According to Mishra, the Bahujan Samaj Party was in power at the time, and the MLA for his constituency was Alauddin. Saroj stated that at the moment, an announcement was made from the mosque in front of the police to grab weapons and not allow the idol to be installed. Mishra stated that the goddess was placed in the village despite widespread opposition from Muslims.

Saroj Mishra, recalling the 2009 event, stated that then-BSP MLA Alauddin was backing the opponents behind this conspiracy. He stated that at the time, the police seized the idol of Maa Durga which they got released after an order from the High Court.
According to Saroj Mishra, the placement of the Durga idol for puja was a source of contention in the village for approximately 5 years before it became normal. He stated that he is still unable to roam with the idol in their own village due to the existence of a mosque. Saroj stated that there is roughly 40% Hindu population that lives beyond the mosque, yet the police still do not allow the idol to be passed around the mosque.
After speaking with Saroj Mishra, we travelled a little farther towards Gainsari, only to see a procession of idol immersion at a site called Rajderwa. There were slogans of Jai Shri Ram in the procession, in which women and children also participated. We were told that they are going to immerse the idol of Lord Krishna after Janmashtami. Police were also seen escorting the procession. We then spoke with the organiser of the puja.
75% Muslims and 25% Hindus in Rajderwa
Krishnadev Yadav, who led the procession, informed us that he is from Rajderwa, where Muslims make up 75% of the population and Hindus make up 25%. He stated that the village’s leader was the wife of one Akram. Krishnadev lost the Panchayat election. He stated that 870 of the 1560 voters in the village were Muslims.

Krishnadev said he is a supporter of Bulldozer Baba since the Hindus in the area had several challenges before the formation of this government. When we inquired about the issues, he stated that in previous regimes, religious processions were not permitted. With this, he said that no one used to pay heed to their problems but now the administration listens to them promptly.
Rapid increase in the Muslim population on the Nepal border
Krishnadev Yadav told us that the population of Muslims on the Nepal-India border is growing significantly. According to Krishnadev Yadav, there was not always such a large Muslim population or as many mosques and madrasas. He stated that this was not the status of the populace and houses of worship in this area when he was a youngster. One member in the crowd also mentioned the influx of Rohingya Muslims into the region.
Another participant in the procession, Dharmendra Yadav, stated that he formerly supported the Samajwadi Party but was persecuted by Muslims during that tenure. Now, Dharmendra Yadav, who calls himself a Yogi fan, openly talked of re-electing Narendra Modi in 2024. Others in the procession said that the policy of 4 to 14 of Muslims had resulted in a rapid one-sided population expansion.
The Indian High Commission in London on Monday in a strongly worded note has condemned the violence perpetrated against the Indian community in the UK.
In its statement, the HCI London also pointed out the vandalisation of premises and symbols of Hindu religion. The HCI have strongly taken up the matter with the UK authorities and sought immediate action against those involved in the attacks. The HCI also called upon authorities to provide protection to those affected by this violence.
Leicester violence
In August 2022 after India vs Pakistan match in Asia Cup when India defeated Pakistan, Islamists mob had reportedly attacked Hindus in Leicester after a scuffle during celebration by the Indian community. A week later, the violence had repeated where the Islamists attacked Hindus for days, starting from the 4th of September. Subsequently, the Indian community in UK, especially Leicester, has been victim of Islamist mob reportedly vandalising and desecrating Hindu symbols. However, certain section of the ‘liberal’ and leftist media along with Islamists and their apologists have been trying to paint the Indian community, especially Hindus, as aggressors.
After hundreds of people crowded the streets in the city’s eastern section, violence erupted on Friday night in Leicester, United Kingdom. This comes after a spate of targeted attacks on Hindus followed the Asia Cup India-Pakistan cricket match on August 28, when armed Islamists attacked Hindus and their residences in the vicinity.
On Friday, hundreds of Hindus had taken to the streets of Leicester to protest against the earlier violence by Muslims against Hindus in the area. During the protest by Hindus, the Muslim mob started indiscriminately attacking Hindus with stones and glass bottles. The protest by Hindus was disrupted by Islamists as they hurled glass bottles at the protestors. A Saffron flag was also desecrated by a mob of Islamists in front of the police.
The violence on the 17th of September erupted after a spate of violence that had gripped the city over a span of 3-4 days, starting from the 4th of September, where Muslim mobs had gone on a rampage identifying Hindus and unleashing violence against them. During the rampant violence by Islamists in the city earlier in September and on the 17th, several Hindus were specifically targeted after being identified by the display of Hindu symbols.
Speaking to OpIndia, Insight UK, a Hindu organisation bringing the issues of the Leicester community to the forefront through advocacy, said that during the 6th September violence, several Hindu houses were attacked after the Islamists identified these houses through the display of religious symbols. 6th September was the third consecutive night of attacks against the Leicester Hindu community, Insight UK told us. During this, hundreds of Muslims had taken to the streets and were attacking Hindu homes after identifying them with the display of the Om symbol, saffron flags, picture of Lord Ganesh etc.

“Hindus of the area are living in fear. All easily identifiable symbols like Om, Shubh Labh, and pictures of Gods & Goddesses are being removed from the doors. Fear of being selectively targeted for their faith by Islamists has forced them to erase all markers of their Hindu identity”, Insight UK had tweeted at the time.
A similar pattern was observed during the recent 17th September attacks as well. During the violence unleashed by Islamists against the Hindus, who were peacefully protesting against the earlier violence in September,
During the violence, a white car was attacked by the Islamists, a video of which was widely shared on social media.
In the video, a Muslim mob surrounds a white car driven by a Hindu. Initially, the mob starts beating down on the car, trying to open the driver’s seat door. After they managed to open the door, they drag the Hindu driver out and beat him mercilessly.
There were several Islamic accounts on Twitter that celebrated the attack on the Hindu driver. One of the accounts that garnered considerable attention was that of @Itachixuchiiha.
Posting a video of the Hindu driver, soaked in blood after being attacked by Islamists, the handle tweeted a celebratory tweet with laughing emojis. In the video, the police officer was seen talking to the injured and battered Hindu while asking others video graphing him to back off.
Speaking to OpIndia, Insight UK, a Hindu organisation that is in touch with the victims in Leicester, said that the driver was targeted specifically after the mob saw Hindu symbols on the dashboard of his car.
“He was specifically targeted after the Islamists saw Hindu Gods and Goddesses on the dashboard of his car”, they told OpIndia. In fact, the Islamists tried to spread substantial propaganda even about this incident. Several Islamists had claimed that the Hindu driver was attacked because he had tried to run over Muslims with his car. However, there has been no evidence to substantiate this claim. The video only shows the driver being attacked unprovoked and beaten up mercilessly.
Another individual from Leicester also took to Facebook to say that he was attacked because there were images of Lord Ganesh on the dashboard of his car.
“We got under attack on green lane road by muslim because there was ganeshji murti on our car’s dashboard so I have question with Leicester police and Leicester government what do you have to protect hindu’s from that thing if can’t do anything then tell us we all Hindu just recpect this country reputation and rules but if you can’t give us security then let us know once we know how protect our self and how to protect our religion ok#leicestershire police”, wrote the individual. OpIndia has tried to get in touch with Mr Shyam Odedra and this report will be updated when he responds.
As per an official statement by the Leicestershire police, the violence erupted on Saturday evening after a group of men staged an ‘unplanned protest.’ “Parts of East Leicester experienced serious disorder yesterday evening (Saturday 17 September) into this morning (Sunday) when large crowds formed after groups of young men began an unplanned protest,” the statement reads.
“Officers attempted to engage with the group and remain with them whilst additional officers were called in. They sought to keep actions lawful but, regrettably, the situation led to disorder,” it further reads adding that two people have been so far arrested from the site. A total of 27 people have been arrested since the dispute began in the city.
There have been allegations of the Leicester police endangering the lives of Hindus as well. After the 28th August scuffle, the Leicester police had claimed that chants of “death to Pakistan” and “death to Muslims” were heard by the Hindus. However, it was later clarified that no chant of “death to Muslims” was raised by the Hindu community. In fact, the police had wrongly translated “Pakistan Murdabad”, which essentially means “down with Pakistan” to “death to Pakistan”. The initial assertion by the police that “death to Muslims” was chanted by the Hindus was widely circulated on WhatsApp by the Muslim organisations, leading to Muslims attacking Hindus. Hindus that OpIndia spoke to also told us that the clarification by the police, that “death to Muslims” was indeed not chanted by Hindus, was not circulated by the Muslim organisations thereby leading to targeted attacks against the Hindu community of Leicester.
Dushyant Dave, a senior advocate in Supreme Court, made a slew of preposterous arguments during the plea(s) hearing challenging the order of Karnataka HC upholding the prohibition on wearing headscarves in Pre-University institutions.
From claiming Brahmins had hijacked India to designating Jains and Buddhists as outsiders to selectively quoting Dr BR Ambedkar, Advocate Dushyant Dave made a bunch of ludicrous arguments while representing the petitioners challenging the hijab ban upheld by the Karnataka High Court.
Here are some of the gems from his anti-Hindu tirade in the Supreme Court:-
‘India was hijacked by Brahmins’
The senior counsel representing the petitioners challenging the hijab ban by the Karnataka High Court went into raptures about the Mughal ruler Akbar’s reign in medieval times, claiming that the religion was otherwise “hijacked by Brahmins”.

In another argument, Dave insinuated that Jains, one of the oldest indigenous communities in India, along with Buddhists, were “allowed to be born” in India.

Supreme Court advocate quotes BR Ambedkar to support wearing hijab while discarding his strident criticism of the Islamic purdah system
Ironically, Dave quoted Dr Ambedkar to bolster his arguments in favour of the hijab while selectively brushing aside his trenchant criticism of the veil that he voiced on more occasions than one, most notably in his seminal book ‘Pakistan or partition of India’.
“Constitutional morality is not a natural sentiment, it is to be cultivated…Democracy in India is only a top-dressing on Indian soil, which is essentially undemocratic,” said Dushyant Dave quoting Ambedkar.

Contrary to what the Left and their intellectual ‘enablers’ like Dave would have us believe, Dr BR Ambedkar was a staunch opponent of the burqa. He extensively wrote against the practice of purdah that afflicts the Muslim society, sharply noting that watching Muslim women wearing burqas is one of the hideous sights one can witness in India.
“As a consequence of the purdah system, a segregation of the Muslim women is brought about…These burka women walking in the streets is one of the most hideous sights one can witness in India,” Ambedkar wrote in his seminal treatise ‘Pakistan or Partition of India’.

The Supreme Court advocate also fuelled misapprehensions about grooming jihad, the phenomenon that entails targeting Hindu women by Islamists under false pretences.

Dave tried to whitewash instances of love jihad and instead falsely clubbed a consensual relationship between a Hindu girl and a Muslim to paper over the social menace. He also cited the instance of how Akbar married a Rajput prince but conveniently refrained from mentioning the ubiquity of jauhars during the Mughal rule when Hindu women embraced self-immolation to avoid capture, enslavement and rape by Muslim invaders.

The lawyer also came up with bizarre reasoning to support his case. He said since more than 10,000 suicide bombings have taken place in the Islamic world but only 1 in India, it means that Muslims have faith in the country.

A major controversy erupted in Karnataka in January 2022 after a Udupi school prohibited hijab inside classrooms. Some Muslim girl students, supported by PFI had appealed against this in the Karnataka High Court. On February 25, the court reserved its decision on the case. Protests, allegations, and counter-allegations occurred in response to the hijab ban.
The Karnataka High Court declared on March 15 that wearing a headscarf does not constitute an essential Islamic practice as the petitioners failed to provide evidence in that regard. The Karnataka High Court dismissed all petitions contesting the hijab ban in Karnataka schools and decided that the rules for the uniform dress were fair and that students can not object to respective dress codes mandated by educational institutions.
Deepal Trivedi, a former Ahmedabad Mirror editor with a long history of spreading fake news, took to Twitter on Sunday to insinuate that Gujaratis from India were responsible for the violence in Leicester, United Kingdom, in which Hindus were attacked by radical Islamists following an India-Pakistan Asia Cup match last month.
Deepal added, quoting another left-liberal columnist Vasundhara Srinate, who blamed Hindutva for the mayhem unleashed by Islamists in Leicester, that Leicester is dominated by Gujaratis and that this is expected of them.

Several Twitter users called out Deepal for her remarks and stated that she is spreading fake news. Quoting a Tweet by Leicester police, a user wrote, “Official statement of the local police authorities. Fake news busted.”

Following the replies by users, Deepal came to her defence and tried to change her stance. In a tweet quoting her earlier tweet, she wrote, “For all those who misinterpret or have missed out… i repeat: Leicester is full of #Gujaratis. Only fools can deny this. And these educated are so “blind” that they think #Gujaratis mean #Hindus only! @zafarsareshwala is one such Muslim who is a Proud Gujarati. So chill!

In another tweet, she went on to add that there is no difference between a Hindu and a Muslim Gujarati. She wrote, “When we talk of #Gujaratis, we talk of #Gujaratis as a community. Not as Hindu or Muslim. #GujaratiSamaj in #Leicester obviously has Hindus & Muslims both as members. Example: Asha Parekh is a Gujarati. We do not describe her as half Muslim. So stop twisting facts!”

Deepal Trivedi through her tweet first insinuated that the ruckus and mayhem unleashed in Leicester city was because of Gujaratis living in the town and then tried to change her stance by saying that it is both Hindus and Muslims of Gujarati origin who caused the violence. In all, she meant that the violence was because Gujaratis inhabited the locality.
Deepal Trivedi and her penchant for spreading fake news
Even so, Trivedi has a long history of peddling falsehoods and fake news. Ahead of 2017 Gujarat state elections, Trivedi was caught sharing morphed images of fake quotes by then BJP President Amit Shah on Patidar community. The atrocious statements put up by Deepal could have easily instigated disturbance within communities in a poll-bound state where rumours can easily take shape of violence.
When confronted about her malicious tweet, Trivedi had claimed that she tagged Hardik and Amit Shah to ‘clarify’ since the images appeared ‘dicey’. Similarly, in 2018, she was caught wishing death upon BJP leader Tajinder Bagga.
Then in 2020, Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil accused Trivedi of publishing a fabricated interview in Ahmedabad Mirror. Taking to Twitter, Paatil called out the fictional ‘interview’ where the tabloid’s Congress-friendly Editor herself had taken the byline. The interview claimed that in 2022 state elections, as per Paatil, BJP will win at least 175 out of 182 seats and that even 182 seats should not come as a surprise.
However, Trivedi brazened it out and defended the ‘interview’ by claiming that the said ‘interview’ took place on 1st September 2020 in Circuit House.
Islamist attack on Hindus in Leicester
Nonetheless, the latest remarks by Deepal follow after violence erupted in Leicester city following the defeat of Pakistan by India in the Asia Cup match on August 28. According to accounts, Muslims, primarily Pakistani Islamists, assaulted Hindus and their homes in the area. Several videos of the incident went viral a week after the incident.
The videos showed Hindus being assaulted in their cars while parked in their driveways, and Hindu families huddled in their houses, stunned, while massive groups wandered the street vandalising property. The majority of these incidents of violence and provocative religious sloganeering were reported in the city’s Belgrave region.

After hundreds of people crowded the streets in the city’s eastern section, violence erupted again on September 17 afternoon in Leicester. Police officers swarmed the streets, exercising disposal powers and encouraging peace as disturbance persisted on the streets following a protest by Hindus against the violence by Islamists.
The protest was disrupted by Islamists as they hurled glass bottles at the protestors. A Saffron flag atop a temple was also desecrated by a mob of Islamists in front of the police. So far, a total of 27 people have been arrested in connection to the violence in Leicester that began last month.
On September 18, the protests in western Iran continued over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. It is noteworthy that Amini was detained by the ‘Mortality Police’ of Iran for wearing the hijab in an ‘improper manner’ as she was allegedly not covering her hair completely. She was assaulted in the Police van while being driven to a detention center for a ‘re-education lesson.’ Amini succumbed to the injuries sustained during the assault while receiving treatment in the hospital on September 16.
Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist and activist, shared several videos on the social media platform Twitter. In one of the videos, the women were seen removing their hijab and cutting their hair as a mark of protest. Masih wrote, “Iranian women show their anger by cutting their hair and burning their hijab to protest against the killing of Mahsa Amini by hijab police. In another video shared by Masih, students of Tehran university were seen protesting against the murder of Mahsa Amini. She wrote, “This is Tehran University, students joined the protest against the murdering of #MahsaAmini by hijab police and chanting: Woman, life, Freedom. Iranians are outraged. JK Rowling, the author of the famous Harry Potter series, came in support of the Iranian women protesting over Amini’s death. She quoted Masih and wrote, “What true bravery looks like.”

Twitter user Samri shared several videos alleging the Iranian Police fired shots at the protesters. The videos, which are graphic in nature, show Police firing at the protesters and a few visuals of protesters who got injured.

A 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini, who fell into a coma after she was beaten by the ‘Morality Police’ for wearing ‘improper hijab’, died on Friday in Tehran. Iranian media reported that Amini died in hospital, quoting official sources.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mahsa Amini was declared brain dead, hours after she was arrested by the ‘Morality Police’ in Tehran for “improper hijab”, which means she had not fully covered her hair. She was arrested by the police and then beaten in the police van while being taken to a detention centre, dubbed as a ‘re-education class’ for not conforming to the country’s mandatory hijab rules.
According to the reports, the incident is said to have happened on September 13 when Amini, a native of Saghez, Iran, had travelled to Tehran for a pleasure trip. The woman was with her brother Kiarash at the entrance to the Shahid Haghani Expressway when the ‘Morality Police’ arrived and arrested Amini for a one-hour ‘re-education class’.
India vs Pakistan Asia Cup matches have taken a violent turn now that Islamists, most of whom are Pakistani immigrants in the UK, have taken to the street to attack the Hindu community while shamelessly playing the victim and putting the blame on ‘Hindu nationalists’. A journalist associated with UK-based leftist media outlet The Guardian, Aina Khan, tweeted about her ‘tense day’ while covering the Leicester violence. She claims to have interviewed one Hindu man who was wearing a motorbike helmet and holding an Indian flag.

She does not name him and there is no visible picture of him, but we have to take her word for it. The man holding the Indian flag could also be a Muslim – since India is home to over 15% Muslims, and we are made to believe they love and respect the Indian flag as much as ‘Hindu nationalists’ do, so in absence of his name, it is bigotry to assume the man wearing a helmet and holding Indian flag was a Hindu man.
He said India’s independence did not truly begin until Narendra Modi took office as PM, eight years ago, and that Modi’s leadership was the panacea for “jihadist Muslims” in India. Muslims were a problem in the U.K., helmet man said, pointing to grooming gangs in Rotherham.
Khan then claims that the man in the helmet claimed he was an RSS supporter. She then adds one disclaimer that the RSS was inspired from Italian dictator Mussolini. This is surprising because usually it is claimed RSS was inspired by Hitler’s Nazism and it is done to dehumanise those associated with the Sangh. Amusingly, it was actually Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s father, Stefano Maino, who actually served as a foot soldier in Mussolini’s army. Maino was not only unapologetic about his support for the fascist leader but he was immensely proud of fighting against the Russian Reds alongside Hitler’s Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front in World War II.
Further, Khan then claims that the ‘RSS-supporting Hindu man wearing a helmet’ said that India’s Independence truly began only after Narendra Modi took office as PM, eight years ago. This is laughable to say the least, because even in India, the home of the RSS – they do not have this as an official line. While the Sangh parivar has been supportive of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, the above stand has been for many BJP supporters and fans of Narendra Modi. While BJP and RSS are sister organisations on the same side of ideology, they are two distinct bodies and have held differing views on many issues – that is exactly how healthy democracy is.
She then said how the helmet wearing man said Muslims are a problem in the UK and talked about the Rotherham grooming gang. There is no video clip evidence of the man saying ‘Muslims’ are a problem, but the fact that many Muslims are prime accused in the Rotherham grooming gang case, one does not see what exactly is incorrect in this.
Rotherham grooming gangs
Over 1400 minors were sexually exploited and abused in Rotherham, Northern England between the late 1980s to 2010s and it is dubbed as the biggest child protection scandal in the UK. Young children were sexually exploited and the first conviction was in 2010 when five British Pakistani men were convicted of sexual offences against girls aged 12-16. Taxi drivers would pick up the girls for sex from care homes and schools and rape and gang rape them. Some were also doused with petrol and threatened to be set on fire.

As can be seen, most of the men convicted of one of the worst sexual exploitation cases in recent history were Muslims, many of Pakistani origin living in Britain. This is fact and stating it so should not be considered ‘Islamophobia’.
Aina Khan’s tirade on the RSS
Khan then claims how the ‘helmet man’ said how the RSS is a great organisation while standing very close to a Gandhi statue. She claims that this was ironic since Gandhi was assassinated by an RSS member, Nathuram Godse. While Godse was once associated with the RSS, at the time of MK Gandhi’s assassination, he was not.
The interview got heated when another man, an RSS member, accused me of bias when I shared concerns about yesterday’s impromptu marchers chanting “Jai Shri Ram,” a Hindu chant appropriated by extremists in India, that has now become synonymous with anti-Muslim hatred.
Khan then claims that ‘another RSS member’ then joined the discussion and it got ‘heated’ when the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans were raised. She refers to Jai Shri Ram (Glory to Shri Ram), as a ‘Hindu chant appropriated by extremists in India’ and also alleged that Jai Shri Ram is now synonymous with anti-Muslim hatred.
This trope is straight out of the book of the Islamists in India who have tried time and again to defame the Jai Shri Ram chant. There have been innumerable times where Islamists have claimed that a ‘Muslim man’ was beaten up for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. In fact, one such fake news was shared by ‘fact-checker’ Mohammed Zubair who shared a mute video clip making these allegations about an incident in Loni, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Later it turned out the elderly Muslim man had made up the entire incident and he was beaten up over black magic by his coreligionists.
This fake narrative has often been used by political parties to further the ‘dara hua Musalman’ narrative, which is why the Islamists in India have started this movement to defame the Jai Shri Ram slogan. This urge comes from the fact that their pious chant Allahu Akbar has become so dreaded and that they can’t do much about Islamic terrorists continuing to stab, behead and blow up (themselves and others) while chanting it. And now, the toolkit has reached the UK.

Another man joined the discussion, and very quickly, all three began shouting at me. It was an extremely uncomfortable position to be in.
She then shared a clip she claims a ‘witness’ recorded. The group is peacefully taking out a march chanting Vande Mataram (Mother, I bow down to thee), a chant Indians use while hailing India, Jai Shri Ram and Har Har Mahadev. It must be noted that the violence started after India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match. Indians were getting attacked by Pakistanis. While many may think this was Hindu vs Muslim thing, it was actually more of Indians vs Pakistani thing. And while it is true most Pakistanis in Britain would be Muslims (because Hindus are very few left and are either forcefully converted, tortured or have fled the country), Indian diaspora in the UK could be Hindus, Muslims and even Sikhs.
Hence, Khan’s analysis reeks of racism towards Indians. The Indian men ‘shouting at her’ could also be a Muslim man who loves India and is faithful to the motherland. A little preposterous for Khan to assume his religious identity.
If I were a white journalist, and not visibly Muslim, suffice to say I would not have faced this level of scrutiny. But it is what it is. It’s hard not to let your emotions get the better of you, when you’re attacked in this way, fortunately only verbally.
Khan then suddenly claims she would not have faced this if she were a white woman. She also claimed she was called Talibani, an extremist and accused of not scrutinising role of Pakistanis in the violence. Which now seems quite evident.
We eventually all went our separate ways. I tried to listen. To question. But the accusations of bias, and the constant shutting down, it was hard to get a word in edge ways. I heard one of the men was later detained by the police.
She then accuses the group of ‘refuting’ her. Because how dare someone try to call out someone’s biased reportage along with a factually incorrect narrative-building exercise. Apparently, refuting someone is now wrong if the person you are refuting is a non-white Muslim woman who can never be wrong.
There were some lovely things I observed.
I accompanied local activist from the Muslim community, @Majstar7, who escorted a woman with a sindooram on her forehead, to her home near Belgrave road.
And then came the disclaimer that not all ‘Hindus’ are the same. Again, to put things in perspective, the violence started with Indians vs Pakistanis in Britain. She then even finds a ‘nice Muslim man’, a good Samaritan, who ‘escorted’ a woman with ‘sindooram’ on her forehead to her home. See the subtle reference to the woman ‘being escorted’.The ‘good samaritan’ Majstar7 is one Majid Freeman, who runs a website seeking donations for the ‘Ummah’ (Islamic community) and raises funds for Syria, Afghanistan amongst others.
Nearby, I watched an English woman hold back tears, as she scrubbed blood from her window sill with some anti-bacterial wipes. Remnants of yesterday’s violence when there was a stand off between a group of Muslim and Hindu men. Close by, a red car had had its rear window smashed.

Even in the video, the Indian man appears to be speaking about Pakistan and not Muslims. The video does show one ‘helmet man’ but in this, no one is speaking about the RSS. When Khan wrote an entire thread about ‘RSS/Hindutva extremists’, how come in this one-minute video that she shared no one is talking about it?
This is the confirmation bias. Khan wanted to see what she wanted to see. She wanted to hear what she thought she would hear because of the chatter that has been going on on Twitter by Islamists over the years. Because now it seems the Ummah will go to any extent to make Hindus appear like aggressors so that their radicals also appear moderate.
Dipak Kumar Ghosh, a former IAS officer and once-trusted aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, revealed some dark secrets of the TMC supremo in a book about her. Ghosh described how Mamta Banerjee ate chicken and vegetable sandwiches, fish fingers, and chocolates throughout her 26-day-long hunger strike in 2006.
The book named “Mamata Banerjee- As I have known her or the Goddess that failed,” was published on May 18th, 2012.

16-years-ago, on 4 Dec 2006, Mamata Banerjee sat on a 26-day long hunger strike in Kolkata opposing the ‘forcible acquisition’ of farmland in Hooghly district’s Singur by the then Left Government for the Tata Motors’ proposed Nano car factory.
In the 8th chapter of his book, titled “Fast with sandwich as dinner and chocolate throughout the day”, Dipak Kumar Ghosh wrote, “Mamata Banerjee’s close associates called her 25 days’ fast (from December 4 morning to midnight of December 28, 2006) as historic and claimed that she had outdone Gandhiji.” He then revealed how Banerjee’s 26-day hunger strike in 2006 was a total charade, with her discreetly eating sandwiches and fish fingers for dinner and chocolates during the day.

Ghosh revealed how Mamata Banerjee, initially for the first 2-3 days of her fast, drank lemon and glucose water but after that, she secretly started eating sandwiches and fish fingers sneaked in at the protest site by her personal assistant (PA) Gautam Basu.
He wrote how she made her PA Gautam Basu secretly get her 4-5 chicken and veg sandwiches and fish fingers from the Dalhousie Institute of Jhowtala courtesy Derek O’Brien for dinner.
He further exposed Mamata Banerjee by revealing how she kept lots of imported chocolates under her pillow and secretly ate them whenever she felt the need.
“But, what did Mamata do all these record days of fast? She had some lemon water, glucose water etc. during the first 2/3 days. But, after Sonali vanished from the scene, she would get 4/5 chicken/cheese sandwiches and fish fingers, secretly brought by her P.A. Gautam Basu (the poor fellow died in 2008) from the Dalhousie Institute at Jhowtola courtesy Derek Obrien for her dinner. Mamata made Derek Obrien a Rajya Sabha M.P. in July, 2011,” Dipak Kumar Ghosh wrote in the 8th chapter of his book- Mamata Banerjee- As I have known her or the Goddess that failed

How Mamata Banerjee rode on the successes of the 2006-07 Nandigram and Singur agitations
In 2006-07, there was a massive protest against land acquisition for the Tata Manufacturing plant, which escalated into violence and bloodshed when police forces under the Left Front government opened fire at the protesters. Mamata Banerjee, as the primary opposition then, led the charge against the same.
Mamata Banerjee, who acted as a farmers’ rights crusader while protesting Tata Motors’ “forceful” land acquisition for the Nano project at Singur, went on to stage a 26-day hunger strike at Kolkata’s Metro Channel ground in the Esplanade area, only to force Ratan Tata to withdraw his dream project in October 2008.
In January 2007, Mamata Banerjee eagerly exacerbated the Nandigram crisis. The movement gathered traction, culminating in the deaths of 14 poor farmers in police shootings, which aided Mamata in mobilising artists like Mahasweta Devi, Aparna Sen, and anti-Gujarat ‘activists’ like Medha Patkar against forcible land acquisition.
Years after the Tata Manufacturing plant was shifted out of West Bengal’s Singur to Gujarat’s Sanand, the farmers involved in the agitation against the Tata behemoth have expressed their regret for the agitation. However, Mamata rode on the successes of the anti-land acquisition movements in Nandigram and Singur to get a historic victory in the 2011 West Bengal elections against the long-ruling Left government.
According to reports, the purchase of Russian oil at a discounted price has benefited India to the tune of 35,000 crores. This comes after India began purchasing Russian crude at a discount since the commencement of the Russia-Ukraine war.
After the Ukraine War forced Moscow’s usual buyers to forsake large quantities of oil, forcing Russian oil companies to offer significant discounts to new buyers, India started looking for cheap Russian oil. India chose to buy oil from Russia in defiance of intense pressure from Western countries.
In July, Russia overtook Saudi Arabia as India’s second-largest oil supplier as a result of its purchases of crude, a report in the Times of India states. However, the latter quickly reclaimed its former position, and now Russia is the third-largest oil supplier, according to trade figures cited by Reuters. India is now the second largest buyer of Russian oil after China.

Even Indian foreign minister, S. Jaishankar, backed the move, calling it the “best deal” for the country. Previously, he stated that India and other nations should be free to guarantee that the impact of war on their economy is minimal.
During the months of April and July, India bought $11.2 billion worth of mineral oil from Russia. According to figures from the Commerce Department, the figure has increased eightfold since it was $1. 3 billion in the same period the previous year. Since March, when India increased its imports from Russia, imports have surpassed $12 billion, up from a little over $1 billion last year.
It is pertinent to note that, refiners, not the government, procure oil; yet, cheaper oil has a favourable influence on macroeconomic aspects of the economy. Oil purchased at a reduced cost helps to keep expenses down and the current account deficit in line by lowering import bills and reducing currency demand.
Notably, this is the second time that searching for lower prices in the global oil market has saved India funds. Previously, we were able to mobilize Rs 25,000 crore in 2020 when oil prices plummeted due to the pandemic. The Indian government then replenished strategic stocks, while refiners stored oil aboard ships.
The Indian government has clarified on several global platforms that they will prioritise the need of the country and will buy oil wherever it is available.
