West Bengal: Ram Navami procession attacked in Howrah, several participants injured

As Hindus across the world celebrate Ram Navami, several incidents of religious processions taken out on the occasion being attacked have happened in several places in the country. In one such incident, a Ram Navami Procession in Howrah in West Bengal was attacked, and the devotees had to abandon the procession due to the attack by Muslims. Several participants of the procession were injured in the attack including stone pelting.

Several videos have been posted on social media, showing the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra coming under attack in Howrah, the twin city of Kolkata. According to Twitter users from the city, the Muslim mob pelted stones at the procession, and the police didn’t do anything to stop the attack.

The procession was organised Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Durga Bahini, and it was started from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. However, the procession was attacked in the midway near Fazir Bazar at PM Basti on GT Road in Shibpur, Howrah.

West Bengal BJYM Vice President Priyanka Sharma posted a video on Twitter to inform about the attack, who said that when the procession was on its way, stones were pelted on them. She further alleged that after attack, police had lathi charged on the Hindu procession, and later arrested them, but didn’t take action on the attackers.

She also urged union home minister Amit Shah to impose president’s rule in West Bengal, saying condition of Hindus are very bad in the state.

Several participants of the procession were injured due to the attack, and were shifted to hospitals for treatment. Some of them were seriously injured due to stone pelting.

The attack and the subsequent action by police completely disrupted the religious procession. But the mob was not satisfied with it, and the procession was abandoned and the Hindus had left the place, the Islamists started attacking houses and shops belonging to the Hindus.

The attack which started during the day continued into the evening, and several vehicles were also burned by the mob.

Later when police tried to control the attacks, the mob also attacked police and pelted stones on them.

A similar incident had taken place in Gujarat today, where a Ram Navami procession was attacked while going through a Muslim dominated area in Himmatnagar.

A Muslim leader from Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana faced fierce opposition from the Muslim people. The minority leader Mohammad Anwar had donated coolers for the local mosque, but the angry people picked up all the coolers and threw them out. The incident took place in the Torumamidi area of Bavantaram Taluka of the Vikarabad district in Telangana.

Mohammad Anwar, a minority leader from the Vikarabad district of Telangana, had donated several coolers in the mosque to get rid of the rising heat. Donating the coolers, he said, “The BJP has done a lot for Muslims. The BJP loves Muslims very much. In fact, Congress has distanced Muslims from the BJP.

Mohammad Anwar further praised the BJP and said, “The BJP has done a very good job for Muslim women by bringing in the triple talaq bill. Muslims are quite happy, the Congress has done nothing for the Muslims. The Congress used Muslims.”

However, the Muslim people of Vikarabad seemed to be very angry with the BJP leader even after the help he had given in the mosque. They picked up coolers donated by him in the mosque and threw them out and later they collected all the coolers and threw them in front of his house.

This is not the first time that the Muslim community has displayed their anger toward other fellows from the community for supporting BJP. Many incidents have happened in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in which Muslims were beaten up by other Muslims for supporting BJP or chanting Jai Shri Ram. Now, a similar incident has appeared in Telangana.

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam reacted to the way the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his party leader Rakhi Birla made fun of Kashmiri Pandits in the past few days. Sonu Nigam said that Arvind Kejriwal himself knows how much wrong happened to Kashmiri Pandits yet he called The Kashmir Files a false film in the Delhi Assembly.

Sonu Nigam said that he is not a devoted supporter of any party. He also opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision that ordered the closure of meat shops during Navratri. Sonu Nigam said that, according to him, it is wrong to do this because this decision leaves those helpless who are earning livelihood by selling meat.

Sonu Nigam hits out at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

Sonu Nigam showed his anger for Arvind Kejriwal saying why, at all, did he call the film The Kashmir Files a false film. He said, “You can make fun of anything but not of Kashmiri Pandits. I haven’t watched the film yet. But they have at least tried to show something which even Arvind Kejriwal also knows has happened. The whole world knows that there has been genocide. If you have won Punjab, you make Punjab Files. Make 84 Files. You make Godhra Files. Let people know how lousy a person can be that he can cut a woman from the middle or cut the throat of someone’s children or feed someone with blood-soaked rice. How bad we humans can be.”

He said, “If you don’t tell people, how will they know? You’re playing politics.” He asked, “In one place, Arvind Kejriwal calls The Kashmir Files a false film and on the other hand, he says that it has been 25-30 years since this incident has happened, what has the BJP done? Does Kejriwal not feel that he is making some people happy and making the majority of Hindus against himself?

Describing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a good opposition, Sonu Nigam said that there is no one in front of the BJP at the moment. He asked, “If AAP does such a thing, what will be their own stand? Is it necessary to do politics in everything? You won Magsaysay, man. You are such an educated man. People expect from you. How can you talk like that? How can you make fun of it?”

Sonu Nigam also condemned the laughter of AAP’s woman leader Rakhi Birla. He said, “How shamelessly the woman was laughing there. One can also speak with dignity. But you’re laughing. You are making fun of them. What message will it pass to other people?”

Sonu said that he respects the post currently held by Arvind Kejriwal, but he is raising the questions as a citizen. He underlined that even if the last thirty years of his life have been in Mumbai, before that he lived in Faridabad and he had spent his childhood in Delhi. He said that let people raise their voices that it should be good with the temple, good with the mosque, and good with the Churches also; that’s how a society should be.

Sonu Nigam talks about other controversies

Sonu Nigam was recently awarded the Padma Shri award after which he appeared on Times Now Navbharat. On the loudspeaker controversy attached to him, he said, “Three years after I said this, the loudspeaker was banned in Saudi Arabia. People linked my point to religion. Now that I put a mic in my house and sing a song, the problem is not with singing, the problem is due to the loudspeaker. You can’t say I’m free and do anything.” On the hijab issue, Sonu Nigam supported the dress code and said that in Bollywood, he himself has seen the underworld era. He said in this interview that his favorite CM is Yogi Adityanath.

Kuldeep Yadav, who spent 7 years at Kolkata Knight Riders, returned to haunt his former side as his 4 wickets haul helped Delhi Capitals (DC) to a comfortable win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Kuldeep finished with 4 for 35 from his 4 overs as Delhi won comfortably by 44 runs in the end.

Having been put in to bat by Kolkata, Delhi got off to an excellent start through their diminutive opener Prithvi Shaw and Australian veteran David Warner as they raced to 90 at 11 runs per over. Once Shaw was dismissed after scoring his half-century, Captain Rishabh Pant kept up the scoring rate and took the side to 148 in the 13th over.

KKR made a bit of a fightback after that as they took 4 wickets for 18 runs, including the wicket of the dangerous Warner at 61. However, an explosive 49 runs partnership off 20 balls between Indian all-rounders Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur pushed Delhi to a formidable 215 off their 20 overs.

In response, Kolkata lost both their openers within the power play but they were still well in the game thanks to an excellent partnership of 69 between captain Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana. With plenty of big hitters to come, KKR was still in with an even chance while that partnership was in place.

However, Nitish Rana falling to part-timer Lalit Yadav opened the floodgates, and then the innings was taken over by Kuldeep. He dismissed the set Shreyas Iyer, and then quickly accounted for last game’s hero Pat Cummins and dangerous Sunil Narine. He was ably supported by the returning Khalil Ahmed who ended up with 3 for 25.

Despite losing, KKR remain on the top of the table but having played more games than anyone else. They next play Hyderabad on Friday, while Delhi will look to continue their new found winning form against Royal Challengers on Saturday.

Venkatesh Prasad, a stalwart of the Indian Cricket Team in the 90s, posted a video on Twitter singing hymns to Lord Shri Ram and wishing everyone a happy Ram Navami. He can be seen singing Ram Bhajans in the video he shared.

The tweet by venkatesh Prasad reads, “SitaRam SitaRam SitaRam kahiye, Jaahi Vidhi Raakhe Ram taahi vidhi rahiye. Say ‘SitaRam, SitaRam, SitaRam.’ Live happily in whatever manner Lord Ram places you. Venkatesh Prasad has been making similar posts on his Twitter account recently. The talented medium-fast bowler has been posting Hindu-centric messages on his Twitter account for quite some time now. He also sang Shri Ram Stuti and posted a video of it on Twitter in June of last year. He also provided the audience with translations of the lyrics.

Venkatesh Prasad performed the Surya Namaskar, a salute to the Sun God, for his fans on International Yoga Day in 2021.

Prasad recently slammed the Congress party for normalizing the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits and attempting to spread misleading information about crimes against the Hindu minority. The former cricketer accused the Congress of plunging to new lows by injuring Kashmiri Pandits’ feelings once again.

Prasad joined Twitter on the 8th of April, 2021. Within a couple of months, Prasad had made several tweets emphasizing his Hindu roots. He is one of the few celebrities who have been so open about their Hindu faith and one can hope that he is only the first among many to come.

Meerut: BSP leader Yakub Qureshi’s illegal meat factory, house and hospital to be bulldozed soon, read details of the case against him

Following the issuance of non-bailable warrants against former minister and BSP leader Haji Yaqub Qureshi, his wife, and two sons, the police administration initiated action to demolish his house and meat factory in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Police have launched a search operation for Yakub Qureshi and his family. According to the police, the location of Yakub Qureshi and his son Imran has been found in Delhi. A police team has camped there to nab the two. At the same time, the location of Yakub Qureshi’s wife Shamjida and the other son Firoz has not yet been found by the police.

Former minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi owned and ran Al Fahim Meatex Private Limited. This meat factory is situated in Village Allipur Jijmana Dhikauli under the Kharkhauda police station area. There was an illegal business of meat packaging and processing going on in the factory. Police charged 18 people, including Yakub Qureshi, his wife Shamjida, and sons Firoz and Imran, after recovering meat from the spot. Meat worth five crore rupees was caught in the factory. Yakub Qureshi is yet to hand over the records of packaging and processing in the factory to the police. The police have already issued a notice for the same.

The police today visited the meat factory, which already has been seized, and pasted notice that it will be demolished. Similar notice was pasted on his house, and a hosital, both of which are built illegally by the BSP leader.

Why is this meat factory illegal?

Speculations of former minister Yakub Qureshi’s meat plant at Hapur Road being bulldozed by the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) are being made ever since the crackdown on it began. The MDA did not want to rush into the matter as the appeal filed on behalf of Yakub in the Supreme Court on the matter of mitigation map of the plant is in the process. The map approval of this plant has been pending for several years. The map application was rejected by the MDA as the land on which the plant was built included green verges, road widening land, and land for public use.

There was an appeal in the government and the High Court after which Yakub Qureshi had received the instruction that if he breaks the construction of green verge and road widening land, and land for public use, then the map should move towards approval. Yakub Qureshi demolished the construction of green verge and road widening land but kept the encroachment on the land for public use. The MDA again rejected his application.

The MDA got a written affidavit from Yakub Qureshi that no commercial or any kind of activity would be carried out till the case was disposed of. Recently, a violation of the same affidavit was found when the business was going on by secretly running the meat plant on a large scale.

On the information of illegal slaughter, a joint team of police and local administration had raided Al-Faheem Meatex Private Limited in Allipura village in Meerut-Hapur road on March 30. During the raid 2,460 kilogram meat said to be worth rupees five crore was recovered after which an FIR was lodged against Qureishi.

Yakub Qureshi’s house is also illegally built and it may also be bulldozed

The MDA is likely to take action at former minister Yaqub Qureshi’s house at Sarai Wahlim in Meerut. In fact, about four years ago, Yakub Qureshi revamped his old house in a new way. During this construction, a basement was also built in it without taking permission. Being the old city, the basement could not be allowed nor could it have had a map passed by the offices. The MDA had directed to demolish that basement. Yakub Qureshi told MDA that the basement is demolished. But it is now known that he lied.

Meerut’s SSP Prabhakar Choudhari said, “Yakub Qureshi and his family have not yet submitted any documents of the meat plant. They are not cooperating in the investigation. In such a situation, the attachment of Yakub Qureshi’s house will be done and the Gangster Act will also be imposed. So that their property can be attached under section 14A.”

Yakub Qureshi owns an illegal hospital run by an educational trust; set to be bulldozed

On Wednesday (April 6, 2022), the administration sealed Yakub Qureshi’s My City Hospital on Hapur Road in Meerut. Dr. Sudhir Kumar, who was involved in the operation along with Deputy CMO Javed Hussain, said Qureshi’s hospital was operating without registration.

Meerut district CMO Dr Akhilesh Mohan said, “The registration of this hospital was not renewed since 2019. Notices were also sent to the hospital several times. No response was given despite repeated notices being sent. So, the action was taken.”

The hospital was being run in the name of Yakub Education Charitable Trust. During the course of the operation, it also came to light that the hospital was given to another person to run on the lease. Without registration, the hospital cannot be given on lease to anyone else.

Yakub Qureshi’s past records show that he is an Islamist

Yakub Qureshi, who is a four-time Mayor from Meerut, had made headlines after he announced a bounty of Rs 51 crore for beheading the cartoonists of France-based publication Charlie Hebdo for publishing the cartoon of Prophet Mohammad. Qureshi later announced to give the said amount to the terrorists who had barged into the office of Charlie Hebdo armed with lethal weapons and killed 12 people including 8 journalists. Qureshi was also reportedly involved in attacking environmental activists who had started a movement for banning meat plants to save the environment.

South Africa-born billionaire Elon Musk surprised the world recently by buying a 9.2% stake in the micro-blogging platform Twitter Inc. Interestingly, Musk’s Twitter investment became public just a week after he ran a Twitter poll questioning if the social media behemoth was rigorously adhering to the principles of free speech.

For Elon Musk, the last week has been very busy as he has been suggesting a plethora of changes to the workings of the micro-blogging platform, whose credibility has been at stake due to its left-leaning bias and arbitrary decision making.

From banning advertising to slashing its price, Musk has continuously dropped hints on how he wants to reshape Twitter.

Just hours after Musk’s Twitter purchase became public, the real-life Tony Stark took a cheeky dig at Twitter by tweeting, “Oh hi lol”. The tweet was meant to ridicule Twitter and its free speech standards. This tweet had come days after he had questioned the free speech policy of Twitter and also sought public views about the need for a new platform.

Perhaps, the multi-billionaire visionary inventor Elon Musk contemplated buying shares of Twitter after receiving a favourable response from the public.

After he became the biggest shareholder of Twitter, he posted a poll on the website asking users whether they wanted an edit button. His options are the misspelled “yse” and “on” to highlight the need for an edit button.

The idea was so revolutionary that it disrupted the existing system at Twitter Inc, pushing CEO Parag Agarwal to caution Twitter users to vote carefully on the poll by the eccentric billionaire. Agarwal said that the consequences of this poll would be important.

For years now, Twitter users have asked for an edit button, however, the micro-blogging site has remained immune to those requests. 

Two days later, Elon Musk continued to troll Twitter by pushing his maverick ideas to change how Twitter functions. It looks like Elon Musk is hell-bent on introducing the edit button on the micro-blogging site.

Musk had tweeted a meme that also teased Twitter regarding the edit button being added to Twitter. The tweet depicts how Musk selling his first company Zip2 to Compaq for $305 million in 1999 led to Twitter finally getting an edit button. 

Elon Musk’s tweets around it forced even Twitter to confirm that it was indeed working on an edit button.

“Now that everyone is asking… yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year! No, we didn’t get the idea from a poll. We’re kicking off testing within Twitter Blue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible,” tweeted Twitter Communication.

Musk’s madness did not stop there. Elon Musk again took to Twitter to state that he was excited to be present at the next board meeting.

“Twitter’s next board meeting is going to be lit”, he tweeted last week featuring his famous pot-smoking meme from Joe Rogan podcast in 2018.

Two days later, Elon Musk shared another tweet to point out some statistics to ask whether Twitter was dying as the most-followed people on Twitter hardly tweet.

Sharing a list of the top 10 most-followed personalities on Twitter, Tesla, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk pointed out that most celebrities tweet “rarely and post very little content”. He poignantly asked whether Twitter was dying?

The list by World of Statistics has former US President Barack Obama at the top and Elon Musk at the eighth spot. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also features right below the Tesla CEO on the list. Others include entertainers like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihana, football star Cristiano Ronaldo, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Ellen DeGeneres.

He also pointed out how celebrities such as Taylor Swift tweeted three months back and pop-artist Justin Bieber only a year before.

Besides poking fun at Twitter, Musk also shared some profound ideas, such as an authentication checkmark for everyone who pays $3 for signing up for Twitter blue. He also suggested that Twitter should not depend just on advertising money to survive as it enhances the “power of corporations to dictate policy”.  

Twitter Blue, which was launched in June 2021, is Twitter’s first subscription service and offers exclusive access to premium features on a monthly subscription basis. It is available only in select countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

On Sunday, Musk again held a poll that took a swipe at Twitter employees in San Francisco. He asked whether the headquarters there should be converted into a homeless shelter since “no one shows up (for work) anyway”.

Nearly 10,91,908 users voted in the poll, wherein 91% said ‘yes’ and just 9% said ‘no’.

The madness continued as Musk also shared more of his wild ideas in his latest polls that he held on Twitter.

In his recent poll, he suggested a name change, asking whether it was time to remove the “w” in “Twitter”. The billionaire gave voters two choices: “yes” and “of course”.

If changed, the new name would be “Titter”. More than 56 percent of the voters wanted “Twitter” to be the named without a “w”, the rest said, “Of course”.

Long-term followers of the richest man on the planet will know that these tweets are very much in character for him, Musk has always been very cavalier with his Twitter feed. Whether it helps Twitter or not, either ways there are some interesting times ahead with the microblogging site.

Days after a Hindu New year celebration procession was attacked when passing through in Karauli in Rajasthan, a similar incidence has taken place in Gujarat. A Ram Navami Shobha Yatra or procession organized on 10th April 2022 at Chhaparia village in Himmatnagar of the Sabarkantha in Gujarat was targeted by some local Muslim goons and stones were pelted at it. Apart from stone-pelting, some vehicles were also vandalized in this incident.

The incident happened in the afternoon when the Ram Navami procession was passing through a Muslim majority locality named Chhapariya. The procession had started at Ramji Mandir in Chhapariya at 4.15 pm, and was to reach Tower chawk after passing through several areas of the city. However, it was attacked when the Hindu religious prcession reached the Muslim dominated area. Several vehicles, which were part of the Ram Navami procession, were damaged in the attack, and one open Jeep was burnt by the attackers.

A convoy of Himmatnagar police had reached the spot on being informed about the violence. The police also released several teargas cells to control the situation.

After stone-pelting and vandalism, tension and unrest prevailed in the entire area. There was also a lot of anger among the devotees as the procession of the deity was pelted with stones. A large number of police personnel have been deployed to control the situation and prevent any further violence. However, the area is still witnessing an uneasy silence.

Police are on alert mode to avoid any unsolicited incidents. Police are keeping a close watch to check antisocial elements and their activity.

Attacks by Muslim mobs on processions of Hindu deities on the occasion of Hindu festivals are increasing with every passing day. A similar incident had happened in Karauli of Rajasthan in the last week when on 2nd April 2022, a mob of Muslims attacked a rally taken to celebrate the Hindu New Year when it was passing through a Muslim-dominated area of the town. About 40 shops were burnt down by the mob and many vehicles were either burnt or vandalized. Moreover, the Rajasthan state administration and police held Hindus responsible for the violence ignoring the fact that the procession of Hindus was the actual victim of the attack by the mob of Muslims. Now as the Chaitra Navaratri concludes on Ram Navami, a mob of Muslims attacked the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra in Gujarat.

On April 10, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal used a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker’s tweet about the education system in general and used it to target the Gujarat government. In his tweet, CM Kejriwal said, “People of BJP are also raising questions on the crumbling education system of Gujarat. Rising above the party line, voice has started rising for a good education in Gujarat. BJP could not give good education in 27 years. “AAP” government will give good education in Gujarat similar to Delhi by taking the people of Gujarat and all the parties along.”

He was replying to Dr Bharat Kanabar, a BJP worker of 35 years. Attaching an old 2015 photo from Bihar, Kanabar had said, “‘K’ is the ‘K’ of the lotus. No one taught the ‘x’ of ‘x’ education. Education has become a commodity. Education has become a commodity in this country of 900 universities and 40 thousand colleges, whose buyers and sellers are shameless. The education system is plagued by viruses like paper leaks, exam theft, fake degree certificates.” Nowhere in his tweet did he mention Gujarat. However, CM Kejriwal used the tweet and twisted it to target the Gujarat government.

Later, Kanabar deleted the tweet after the unwanted attention thanks to Kejriwal’s quote tweet and clarified his stand. He said, “The photograph was from Bihar. The main issue is about the evils of the education sector. There is no need to applaud Congress or the AAP. I have been an active activist for BJP for 35 years. The ideology of nationalism is in the veins, so even if you wake up and ask, only the “K” of the lotus will be spoken.”

The reality behind the image

The image used by Kanabar was from 2015, and it showed family and friends of the students climbing the walls of the examination centre to help the students in cheating. Over 300 people were arrested in the case.

AAP ‘education model’ and fake degrees

While Kejriwal may be trying to enter Gujarat through his ‘education model’, factual data shows that Delhi is far behind other states when it comes to education. CM Kejriwal may have forgotten that his own ex-Law Minister Jitinder Singh Tomar was accused of obtaining a fake degree. Interestingly, after High Court cancelled his election, AAP fielded his wife Preeti Tomar in Assembly elections.

Best-selling author of the Shiva trilogy and the Ram Chandra series, Amish Tripathi sat down with OpIndia and talked about his new series Legends of The Ramayana, which is streaming on Discovery+.

Amish said he learned a new thing every day while making the series, and it brought him closer to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. He thanked the makers for the idea of making the documentary and said it came as a blessing for him.

Amish, whose fourth book in the Ramchandra series is all set to launch very soon, said the makers wanted to make a documentary that was respectful to the Indian culture. Amish said they went to all the locations, including Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Panchvati, Hampi, Rameshwaram, and in Sri Lanka, Sigiriya, which was Ravan’s capital.

He said there could be many reasons Sanatan Dharma survived, but all the other pre-Bronze religions died. It could be our ancestors never surrendered, or it could be we were decentralized, so there was not a single head that, if cut, would end the Sanatan Dharma.

Amish added he feels we have a fine mix of rigidity and flexibility. We never got dethatched from our stories. However, we were flexible enough to add a little bit of modernization to the stories. He gave examples from Ramayana, in Valmiki Ramayana, there is no mention of Lakshman Rekha, but it finds reference in Ramcharitra Manas. However, the picturization in the 1980s Ramayana series is different from what was depicted in Ram Charitramanas.

While talking about the importance of including the ancient way of teaching in the modern education system, he said what we learn is the European way of history. They made it look like their history is history, but anyone else’s is mythology. He said fighting the battle of history and mythology on the European battleground is a waste of time, and instead of convincing others, we should concentrate on analyzing how our history can be beneficiary for us.
