44 Sikh delegates arrive from Pakistan to visit Gurudwaras in Delhi and Amritsar

0

A total of 44 Pakistani Sikh delegates on Monday arrived in India from Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border to visit gurudwaras in Delhi and Amritsar.

“We have arrived from Pakistan’s Peshawar, Sindh and other areas to visit the Gurudwaras of Delhi and Amritsar,” a Pakistani Sikh delegate Harbhajan Singh told ANI.

Another delegate Sardar Karam Singh said, “We are a total of 44 people, and have arrived to visit the Darbar Sahib in Delhi. We are thankful to the Pakistan government for giving us permission to visit India.”

He said that they will be visiting various Gurudwaras including the Amritsar Golden temple. Visuals captured by ANI show Sikh delegates crossing the Attari-Wagah border. They are carrying their luggage and getting their passports checked by security officials.

Recently, Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi issued nearly 3,000 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims to attend the week-long birth celebrations of Guru Nanak. Indian Sikh pilgrims visited Dera Sahib, Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib.

Sikh pilgrims, recently, expressed disappointment after the Pakistani authorities rejected 586 visas, out of a total 1496 visas, of Indian Sikhs, wanting to visit the Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.”SGPC had applied for 1496 visas, out of which, 910 were approved but 586 were rejected. The visas are valid for ten days, and those whose visas were rejected, have been disappointed a lot. Government should not reject the religious visa,” said Harbhajan Singh.

“Both governments need to provide the facility of On Arrival Visa. The Visa office must be open at Attari-Wagah Border. The buses which used to run earlier, for the darshan of the Gurdwara of Pakistan were also stopped. That should run again, like the Delhi-Lahore bus. Amritsar Nankana Sahib even the Samjota Exores train has been stopped. We should connect the people of both countries through religious places,” he further stated.

Deciphering the Global South Summit: India becoming the voice of developing economies across the world

The Voice of the Global South Summit, a unique endeavour started by the Indian government months after it assumed the G20 presidency, was recently held in India. The summit’s goal was to launch a brand new and enthusiastic approach to realpolitik, while also providing a coordinated strategy for emerging economies. Leaders from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Guyana, Mozambique, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Senegal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam attended the conference.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised at the summit’s opening session that developing countries should work together to restructure global political and financial governance so that they are not excluded from advancement, and can eliminate disparities. Notably, PM Modi reaffirmed that during its G20 leadership, India would represent the Global South.

This piece makes an effort to explain the summit’s underlying philosophy and shed light on how India, the oldest of the group but yet the youngest, is holding the torch high and paving the way for other emerging regions throughout the globe.

The North-South divide

The economic, political, and social differences between the developed nations of the Northern Hemisphere and the parts of the developing world of the Southern Hemisphere are known as the global North-South divide. The North is distinguished by sophisticated industrial economies and high standards of living, while the South is distinguished by under-developed economies and poverty. This division is mostly based on the level of economic development.

The history of colonialism, imperialism and uneven economic connections between industrialised and developing nations are the roots of the North-South split. The North used the South’s labour and resources for its own economic advantage throughout the colonial era.

Several crucial measures, including GDP per capita, life expectancy, and access to education and healthcare, illustrate the disparity. The global North-South divide has serious consequences for global development and poverty alleviation. The bulk of the world’s poor live in the South, and reducing this disparity is critical to meeting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

To eliminate poverty and encourage development in the South, the global economic system must evolve toward more justice and fairness. This may be accomplished through a variety of measures, including increasing aid and investment in the South.

Summits and conferences with a focus on the Global South are often held to address the unique challenges these countries face while also fostering cooperation and development. These gatherings often bring together representatives from the government, business, and other sectors to discuss issues including trade, economic development, and poverty reduction.

Why now?

The goal of the present summit, which has the theme “Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose,” is to bring together nations from the global south to discuss a wide variety of topics from their points of view and objectives. The summit’s timing reveals a lot about the purpose of the alliance.

The need for a new international order that is more inclusive, representational, and fundamentally more stable has been supported by the Covid 19 epidemic, increasing Chinese expectations, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, and various other events. The Global South Summit aims to give voice to that endeavour and help in making the transformations manifest.

India in a leadership role

In recent years, India has emerged as an increasingly prominent player in world affairs, particularly in the context of the Global South. India has taken the lead in promoting South-South cooperation and has participated actively in regional and international forums to discuss topics of shared concern.

In areas like trade, climate change, and nuclear non-proliferation, India’s leadership has been essential in promoting developing nations’ interests and concerns on the international stage. Furthermore, India has increased its participation in regional organisations like the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and international organisations like the World Trade Organization and the United Nations.

Also, the complaints and criticisms that India has the intent to replace the North with the South alliance are ill-founded. Indian stand has been very clear from the beginning itself. India has never aspired to dominate any system or hold an advantageous position. The stand has always been that India should be well-placed in the decision-making structure of global politics and sovereign enough to decide on its internal matters.

Notably, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been able to achieve well on all fronts and continues to proceed with vigour and grit. The Indian economy is also well poised to handle the changing rules of realpolitik and contingencies.

India under Modi

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has risen to prominence on the international stage through a mix of economic development, diplomatic endeavours, and strong leadership. India’s economy has expanded to become one of the largest in the world, and the country has achieved great advances in fields such as technology and space exploration.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi has maintained an active foreign policy, establishing strong partnerships with other nations and playing an important role in regional and global events. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi’s leadership style, which stresses bold and immediate action, has contributed to India’s improved worldwide reputation.

PM Modi is to be thanked for making Indians and the world realise that India cannot always be kept in the ‘developing countries’ category. Rather, the new India is sovereign, decisive, self-sufficient or to say Aatmanirbhar in totality.

India really means what PM Modi said in the Opening Remarks at the Concluding Leaders’ Session of the Voice of Global South Summit:

संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम्

The prayer from the Rigveda says, “Let us come together, speak together, and may our minds be in harmony.”

Berhampur Bank liquidation: Calcutta HC settles India’s oldest pending case; was filed a decade before the birth of the current Chief Justice

0

India’s oldest case in 72 years was settled by the bench of the Calcutta High Court last week. This case related to Berhampur Bank was registered a decade before the birth of the current Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava. The court has got relief as the litigation related to the liquidation proceedings of Berhampur Bank Limited is now over.

However, despite settling the old case, the delayed justice is news as the Chief Justice of the court is younger than a decade than this case. The case dating back to 1951 was settled last week. The trial in the case had been going on for as many as 72 years.

After dealing with this case, three of the five oldest pending cases are yet to be dealt with. These old cases were filed in 1952. Of the remaining three cases, two civil cases are pending in the Civil Court in Malda, Bengal, and one in the Madras High Court. The Malda court held the last hearing to resolve these cases in March and November.

The Berhampur case is the oldest case to be heard in an Indian court. The case for liquidation of Berhampur Bank Limited had come up before the court in 1951. The Calcutta High Court declared the bank bankrupt on November 19, 1948. It also ordered the closure of this bank.

However, the court’s order was challenged through a petition by several consumers seeking their money back. Through these petitions, the case again came up before the court on January 1, 1951. At that time, the case was numbered 71/1951.

The trial of the case has been going on since then. According to information received, the petitions challenging the liquidation of the bank were heard twice in September last year. However, no one was present on these dates at that time.

Justice Kapoor then sought a report from the court’s liquidator. On September 19, 2022, the assistant liquidator told the bench that the matter was disposed of in August 2006. It was learned that it was not included in the records and the matter remained on the pending list.

West Bengal: Man forced to carry mother’s dead body after being unable to pay ambulance charges, cops arrest NGO Head Ankur Das who helped him

On January 10 this year, the Jalpaiguri police in Mamata Banerjee-ruled West Bengal arrested an NGO Head named Ankur Das for helping a man, Ram Prasad Dewan, to carry the corpse of his mother to his residence.

The incident dates back to January 5, 2023, when Ankur learnt about the case of Ram. The latter was asked to cough up ₹3000 to avail of the ambulance service of the Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital.

Unable to bear the expense, Ram and his father Joy Krishna Dewan were left with no option but to carry the dead body of 72-year-old Lakshmirani Dewan on their shoulders. This was despite the fact that the hospital was 50 kilometres away from their house in the Nagardangi area.

The deceased was admitted to the hospital on the previous day after she complained about breathing issues. It must be mentioned that the ambulance earlier charged ₹900 to bring Lakshmirani Dewan to the hospital but raked up the price by 3 times when asked to drop them at their residence.

Das, who runs a local NGO in Jalpaiguri, was taken aback by the sight of the father-son duo struggling to carry the dead body. He immediately intervened and provided a mortuary van to them.

Meanwhile, a video of the incident went viral on social media. Soon after, a police complaint was lodged against Ankur Das by the head of a local ambulance organisation, Dilip Dutta.

While speaking to the media, he alleged that it was a staged act (Sajano Ghotona), aimed to defame the State government and tarnish the image of the Jalpaiguri district.

On January 10, 2023, the Jalpaiguri Kotwali police picked up Ankur Das and interrogated him for 8 hours. He was thereafter arrested and produced before a local court on the following day.

Instead of dismissing the case, the court sent the NGO Head to police custody for a period of 4 days. Ankur Das was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 120b (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) and 500 (defamation).

SP (Jalpaiguri) Biswajit Mahato said, “…Ankur Das was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the secretary of the Private Ambulance Owners’ Association. The complainant alleged that he has been defamed.”

On Sunday (January 15), Ankur Das was produced before the court again and this time the police sought an additional 5 days in custody. However, the court relented and granted interim bail to the NGO Head, whose only crime was to help a struggling father-son duo.

While speaking to TV9 Bangla, he said, “I condemn what the police did under the pressure of the powerful. Attempts have been made to hide the real culprits during these six days. But the way the people of Jalpaiguri stood by me is an honour. It is the first step in the victory of truth.”

However, Ankur Das cannot step outside the Jalpaiguri district without the prior approval of the court and needs to visit the Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station once a week.

Asaduddin Owaisi says Islam ‘gifted’ democracy to India, leaves netizens amused

0

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said Islam gifted democracy to India. On 15th January 2023, News24 tweeted a video of Owaisi, where Hyderabad MP Owaisi can be seen giving a lecture on Islam. Owaisi himself has also retweeted this video.

In this speech, quoting some books, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “The last three caravans that came to this country were from Islam, who came here and settled here. Just as Ganga and Yamuna originate from different places, but due to the law of nature, when they meet, it is called Sangam. We brought our treasures here. We opened our closed doors and we gave everything, and the most unique gift that Islam gave to this country was the gift of democracy.”

It is notable that democracy is the new addition to the list of things allegedly gifted by Islam to India. Earlier, similar claims have been made about many food items and clothes. Examples of biryani and the Chikankari are often cited to support such claims.

Owaisi’s claim of Islam bringing democracy to India got a lot of reactions, with many netizens asking why is there no democracy in Islamic nations if they are the ones who spread democracy.

Many netizens also compared Owaisi to a comedian for his remark and commented that he is giving competition to other comedians.

Earlier, on Saturday, Owaisi shared “news” of a Muslim man being beaten up in a train for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan, a piece of news that has been found to be fake and dismissed by Railway Police.

Tayyab Ansari poses as a Congress MP, rapes and extorts money from a woman on the pretext of getting her a Lok Sabha ticket, arrested

0

The Chinhat police in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested a man named Tayyab Ansari based on a complaint lodged against him in November 2022, wherein a woman accused him of cheating and rape. The victim said that Ansari posed as a Congress MP and sexually assaulted her, and promised her a Lok Sabha ticket.

The victim also accused Ansari of extorting money and defrauding her on the pretense of marriage. Tayyab Ansari (52), a resident of Madianv Mohibullahpur, who went missing after the complaint was filed against him, was finally arrested on Friday (January 13, 2023) from Hotel Moti Mahal in Bareilly, ADCP (East) Syed Ali Abbas said.

According to the police, the woman alleged that Tayyab Ansari alias MT Hasan pretended to be a Congress Rajya Sabha MP. The accused convinced the woman that he had a good reputation and significant connections with the party’s top leadership. He told her that he can use his connections to secure her a Lok Sabha seat. The woman fell into his trap.

Ansari kept sexually exploiting the woman on the pretext of getting her a Lok Sabha seat and also kept extorting money from her. After a considerable amount of time, the woman understood that the man was simply fooling her. She approached the Chinhat police with a complaint against him. The police filed an FIR under sections 120B, 376, 328, 342, 506, 406, and 420 of the IPC and began a manhunt.

The police launched many raids over the course of two months. On Friday, January 13, the Chinhat police ultimately received a tip about his whereabouts. Based on the tip, they raided Hotel Moti Mahal in Bareilly, where the accused was staying in room 110, and detained him. The accused has been sent to jail.

Sexual predators and the Left: Why the ‘ecosystem’ keeps silence, protects them

Late on Saturday, allegations of sexual harassment emerged on cofounder of propaganda website, Alt News, Pratik Sinha. An anonymous note was published on an Instagram handle where a woman had accused Sinha of being a ‘sex maniac’ and highly manipulative so as to get women to have sex with him.

The woman had also stated that her allegations would be rubbished by the ecosystem and she’d be labelled as a BJP/RSS stooge. However, she was all praises for another Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair and the website itself. In fact, it was the ideology they pretended to stand for that had attracted her to Sinha in the first place. She said she was ‘impressed by his crusade against false news’. So at this point it would be safe to say she is not a ‘Sanghi’. A ‘Sanghi’ woman’s allegations of sexual harassment are usually laughed at or dismissed because Left has often suggested and asserted that ‘Sanghis’ deserve to die.

Coming back to Sinha, from what the woman has revealed in her post, it appears more like a case of relationship gone sour than Sinha using his place of influence to sexually exploit or abuse a woman. It is likely his ideology attracted the woman towards him to initiate relationship, but not responding to messages or not being in an ‘exclusive’ relationship with someone or generally gaslighting and cheating on girlfriend or ghosting her is more reflective of his interpersonal relationship and shows he’s likely a despicable person personally as well.

It has been over 36 hours and by the time this article is being published, neither Pratik Sinha, nor Mohammed Zubair have tweeted anything or issued any refutal. Even Alt News has not issued any statement on the allegations against their cofounder. Which is quite interesting since Zubair, whose tweets have now led to riots and murders in the country, is also quite quick to point fingers on others and cry murder whenever any woman accuses someone of opposing political and/or religious ideology of sexual harassment.

However, what is even more damning, but not too surprisingly, is the silence of the entire ecosystem. No one is calling out Sinha’s terrible behaviour with a woman. Whether or not it is sexual exploitation, the gatekeepers of morality and flagbearers of feminism, who keep talking about problematic behaviour of men, emotional manipulation and general toxicity which comes with ‘men are trash’ brigade are silent.

In 2017, a year before the MeToo movement hit India, Raya Sarkar, then a law student in the US with her roots in India, put up a post on Facebook where she had named and shamed Indian academics who had been accused of sexual harassment. Subsequently, many other women came forward to retell the tales of their own abuse. However, the entire Leftist cabal had taken it upon themselves to shield the men.

Prominent Leftists and other professors of educational institutes like JNU had cautioned women calling our predatory behaviour of Leftist professors and urged to follow due process instead of ‘naming and shaming’ them. They argued against adopting ‘vigilantism’. In fact, JNU Teachers Association rallied behind Arshad Alam, a professor at JNU who was found guilty of sexually molesting a student.

You see, there’s this sense to empathise with the men of same political ideology accused of sexual abuse or exploitation. Because men of Leftist and Left-leaning ideology often talk about ‘feminism’ and ‘women empowerment’ and how they are ‘superior’ to men from ‘Right’ or ‘Sanghis’ who ‘do not respect’ women.

When Veteran journalist Vinod Dua was accused of sexual harassment, his daughter, ‘comedian’ and Bollywood entertainer Mallika Dua had rallied behind him. In her statement, soon after the allegations rose, addressed to the victim, Mallika Dua reiterated that she supported #MeToo movement but rued the fact that the victim had “dragged her name” in a controversy involving her father.

After expressing displeasure with the victim naming her, Mallika Dua went on to abuse people who were asking her to speak up. She termed these people as ‘bhakts’ and ‘RW trolls’ and asked them to ‘f*ck off’. She reiterated that she stands by the #MeToo movement. A liberal, feminist woman abusing ‘bhakts’ because a woman (who was not really a ‘bhakt’ herself by a long stretch of imagination) had accused her father of sexual harassment.

She ended her statement by saying that she stood by her father in this battle. Eventually, the left propaganda website The Wire, where Vinod Dua was then employed, disbanded the probe committee set up to look into the allegations of sexual harassment against Dua after he refused to face the woman.

A year later, Mallika Dua engaged in victim shaming. She took digs at the woman who had accused her father of sexual harassment. Vinod Dua passed away a few months later without really facing any ramifications of the allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Like Dua, another feminist-liberal filmmaker Nandita Das has also stood by her father, Jatin Das, accused of sexual harassment. Noted Conservationist Nisha Bora had accused Jatin Das of grabbing her and forcefully kissing her during a dinner in 2004. When the allegations surfaced, many questioned the silence of Nandita Das, who had earlier issued a statement to take a firm stand against sexual harassment and not to work with those people who are accused of sexual misconduct against women.

However, when her own father was accused of sexual harassment, she said that one should be sure about these allegations to make sure that the ‘movement’ is not diluted. She stayed clear from criticizing her father for his alleged sexual conduct but instead stands by him terming it as ‘allegations just to dilute the movement’.

But Sinha is a ‘liberal’. You know how the ‘comedians’ in India like to believe they are the most liberal and feminist of the lot and are all about equality and how they spout gyaan on consent? Well, a lot of women accused a lot of these comedians of sexual abuse in 2018 during the #MeToo wave. Know what some women revealed? All India Bakchod’s Tanmay Bhat knew about sexual misconduct of one of their collaborators but did nothing.

What is it about the so-called liberals who are otherwise champions of women’s rights suddenly go silent when someone they know is accused of rape? Where does the ‘believe her’ go? From Tehelka’s Tarun Tejpal to former TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) chief R K Pachauri, the ‘liberals’ have downplayed the molestation charges and tried to silence those who spoke up.

At a time when it takes tremendous courage for victims to speak up on sexual abuse, why are the ‘liberals’ always around to silence a victim?

And till we know more about what transpired between Sinha and the woman, going by what is there in public domain, it just appears like problematic behaviour of Sinha that borders on being manipulative and emotionally abusive. But he is not cancelled and nor will he be. Because he is ‘fighting a cause’, that is ‘exposing the fascist Sanghis’ and destroying Sanghis is more important than dignity of a woman and protecting her from ‘sex maniac’.

Hyderabad: Swiggy delivery agent dies after falling off a building escaping a dog attack, owner charged with death by negligence

A delivery agent for Swiggy died from injuries sustained in a fall from the third floor of a building while trying to flee an alleged attack by a pet dog, according to police reports on Monday.

Rizwan, a delivery agent for Swiggy, was killed after he was attacked by a pet dog while making a delivery. He fell from the third floor of a building while attempting to flee the attack.

Banjara Hills Police has registered a case against Shobana, the dog’s owner.

“It has been four days since the incident took place. The delivery boy named Rizwan died at the hospital while getting treatment. We have registered a case under IPC Section 304(A) against Shobana, the dog’s owner,” Banjara Hills Inspector of Police, Narender told ANI.

The victim’s brother said, “My brother was working at Swiggy. He died after being treated for a few days. He went to Banjara hills to deliver a parcel but fell trying to escape from the dog. I appeal to the Telangana government that we want justice. The Banjara hills police should take necessary action.”

As per reports, the 23-year-old victim fell off the third floor of the apartment building in the city’s Banjara Hills when he had gone to deliver food on Wednesday, January 11. The customer’s pet dog, a German Shepherd, who was not on a leash, charged the delivery agent when he knocked on the door. In a rush to avoid the dog attack, Rizwan jumped over the fence holding the railing. However, his hands slipped and he fell off the building. The incident occurred at Lumbini Rock Castle apartment, Banjara Hills Road number 6.

The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union accused Swiggy of apathy over their delivery agent’s death. Speaking to TNM, president Shaik Salauddin said, “Swiggy has neither reached out to us nor acknowledged his death yet.”

The organisation has also demanded compensation for the deceased delivery agent.

TGPWU had further appealed to customers to ensure that their pets are leashed when they are expecting a delivery.

Mominpore communal violence: NIA files chargesheet against Md Fakruddin Siddique, Md Salauddin, and 12 other accused

0

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on January 7, filed a chargesheet against 14 people in connection with the October 9 communal violence in the Mominpore locality of Kolkata, West Bengal. The anti-terror agency submitted the chargesheet relating to the targeted attacks by Islamists on the Hindu community in Mominpore at NIA’s special court in Kolkata.

The complaint was originally filed on October 10 at the Ekbalpur Police Station in Kolkata, West Bengal, and was re-filed by the NIA on October 18 last year. Those named in the chargesheet have been identified as Md Fakruddin Siddique, Md Salauddin Siddique, Md Sahabuddin Siddique, Md Idul Siddique, Md Ziauddin, Badrul Hossain, Ohab Hossain, Mustafa Hussain, Zakir Hossain, Gholam Md Izhar, Md Faiyaz, Sunny, Raju, and Imamul Haque.

The accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 120B, 147, 149, 152, 332, 353, and 436, as well as Sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. Investigations indicated that the accused plotted a criminal conspiracy and met in an unlawful assembly to attack people’s homes and stores in Gali No. 8, Bhukailash Road, Kolkata, using crude bombs, petrol bombs, wooden sticks, brickbats, and stones.

According to the chargesheet, the accused people, as part of an unruly crowd, blocked the police force from accessing Bhukailash Road to contain the disturbances and even attacked Kolkata Police officials. Reports mention that the chargesheet was submitted three days after the NIA conducted searches at 17 places in Kolkata on January 4 and confiscated Rs 33.87 lakh in cash from the house of three absconding accused.

During the searches, the NIA recovered a total of Rs 33,87,300, and sharp-edged weapons and other incriminating materials were seized. Rs 30,55,000 were recovered by NIA from accused Md Salauddin Siddique’s house and Rs 1,59,300 from Zakir Hossain’s house, and Rs 1,73,000 from Tipu’s house.

The NIA took up the case after the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) division instructed it to record an FIR and conduct a comprehensive investigation due to the seriousness of the situation. The MHA’s ruling followed a directive issued by the Calcutta High Court in October while hearing a writ petition about the communal violence in Ekbalpore and Mominpore. The Court directed the state police to assemble a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of experienced police officers to investigate the occurrence.

The petitioners had moved the Court, saying that the state police administration stood by while communal violence erupted in Kolkata’s Ekbalpore-Mominpore district on the occasion of Laxmi Puja. As a result, the petitioners requested that the Central Paramilitary Forces be deployed to maintain peace in the area. They also asked the investigation of the crimes to be transferred to the NIA, citing the State Police’s inability to conduct a fair probe.

On October 9 the Hindu community in the Mominpore locality of Kolkata in West Bengal came under attack as they geared up to celebrate the annual Lakshmi Puja. As reported earlier, bikes and shops belonging to Hindus were vandalized by Islamists at Maila Depot in Mominpore. The Hindu community was forced to flee after their houses came under attack in Mayurbhanj in the Kolkata port area.

Under the false allegation that an Islamic flag was desecrated, the accused also ambushed the Ekbalpur police station and forced the cops to flee.

According to the NIA press release, the case was first registered on October 10, 2022, at the Ekbalpur Police Station in Kolkata, West Bengal, and was then re-registered by the NIA on October 18, 2022.

Viacom18 wins Women’s IPL media rights for 951 crore

The Viacom18 secured the Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights value for the 2023-2027 cycle for a whopping Rs 951 crore which means per match value of INR 7.09 crore for next 5 years.

The BCCI will unveil the five WIPL franchises on January 25. The news comes as a massive development for women’s cricket on Monday as Women Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights was auctioned. The news was confirmed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on his Twitter account on Monday.

“Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women’s @IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket,” Jay Shah tweeted on Monday.

Viacom has pledged INR 951 crore, and INR 7.09 crore for each match, for the next five years.

The Women’s T20 Challenge was initially held as an exhibition tournament, but the BCCI last year eventually made the decision to introduce the WIPL, with the first season’s opening match scheduled for March. The BCCI has not officially released the tournament’s schedule, but it is widely believed that the first season, which would consist of 22 matches, will take place between March 5 and March 23.

Uncapped cricketers have been given two alternatives, while players with caps–those who have represented India or are currently on a central contract–can select either Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh, or Rs. 50 lakh as their base pricing (Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh).

Prior to the WIPL, the base price has been separated into five categories, ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh. The auction’s registration cutoff date is January 26.
