Maharashtra political crisis: Supreme Court refuses to stay floor test ordered by Governor on Thursday

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to intervene with the Maharashtra Governor’s direction to Uddhav Thackeray-led SS-NCP-Cong ruling coalition to prove majority in Assembly on June 30, with voting at 5 pm.

A Bench comprising of Justices Surya Kant & J B Pardiwala said it is ordering notice on the petitions and that Thursday’s floor test proceedings will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition by SS chief whip Sunil Prabhu, who termed Governor’s direction for floor test as illegal. SC to hear Prabhu’s petition with rebel MLAs’ challenge to disqualification proceedings on July 12.

The top court also allowed jailed MLAs Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh to participate in the floor test in the Special Session of Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha tomorrow. Since they are in judicial custody in cases registered by ED/CBI, the court asked both the agencies to escort them to the Vidhan Sabha hall and bring them to judicial custody after the proceedings are over.

Earlier today, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote to the state assembly and called for a special session on June 30, Thursday. The only agenda of the session is a trust vote against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The floor test will be conducted at 11 AM tomorrow and is to be concluded by 5 PM the same day. This came after Devendra Fadnavis, leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, approached the Governor along with 8 Independent MLAs and demanded a floor test. The Shiv Sena had moved to the top court challenging the Governor’s order of a floor test.

Over 50 rebel MLAs who have been camping in Guwahati hotel in Assam are expected to leave for Maharashtra to be present in the Assembly tomorrow morning. Earlier in the day, the rebel MLAs visited the Kamakhya temple and offered prayers. Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena MLA who is leading the rebel MLAs said that they will return to Mumbai tomorrow and take part in the floor test while following all protocols.

Columnist Yuvraj Pokharna gets death threats on Instagram for criticising the murder of Kanhaiya Lal

On June 28, columnist Yuvraj Pokharna got death threats from Islamists on Instagram after he criticised the Udaipur murder. While commenting on a post on The Tatva India’s Instagram post on the murder of Kanhaiya Lal Teli by Islamists, Pokharna had written, “This abominable “skullcap” cult will always be inimical and grotesque to mankind.”

Replying to his comment, an Instagram user, faisal_x_mhd, said, “Gustak E Rasool ki ek saja sir tan se juda.”

Another Instagram user, amirshaikh_rm, questioned, “who started it, dude?”.

Following this, Yuvraj Pokharna lodged a complaint with the Gujarat Police against the Instagram users Faisal and Amir Shaikh.

Speaking to OpIndia, Pokharna said he got multiple threats for criticising the brutal murder of Kanhaiya Lal by Islamists in Udaipur. He said, “I was shocked. Kanhaiya Lal was killed for merely supporting Nupur Sharma. I criticized the murder on Instagram, which attracted threats to me as well. I have filed a Police complaint against the Instagram users who have threatened me.” After issuing the threats, both Amir and Faisal have deactivated their Instagram accounts.

Yuvraj was targeted earlier for raising doubts over NGO Hemkunt Foundation

This is not the first time Yuvraj received threats. In May 2021, the columnist was under attack after he questioned the funding and expenditures of NGO Hemkunt Foundation. In a conversation with OpIndia during that time, he said, “I wonder if asking valid questions was a mistake?” He revealed how a whole army of trolls and abusers have been after him since the video was published. He had received endless abuses and threats for merely questioning the NGO.

The trolls crossed the limit when they leaked his number online. Yuvraj said that being a professional, it was not hard to find his number online, and the abusers took advantage of it. As soon as his number was shared on social media, he started to get threatening messages and calls, said Yuvraj.

Yuvraj said it was not limited to just abuses. Several comments were a direct threat to him. One person who stood out with his threatening videos and messages is named Viky Thomas. Yuvraj told us that there was a video of him in which he was allegedly openly threatening him, but the video was later deleted.

Murder of Kanhaiya Lal

On June 28, a Hindu man named Kanhaiya Lal was brutally murdered in Udaipur, Rajasthan, over an alleged post in favour of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The post was allegedly made by accident from Kanhaiya Lal’s phone by his 8-years-old son while playing a video game. Kanhaiya Lal was arrested for making the post after his neighbour filed a complaint about the same. He also leaked Kanhaiya Lal’s number, photograph and address to his community groups. After being released on bail, he continued to receive threats. He shut his shop for six days and approached Police for protection. Instead of giving him protection, the Police asked him to make a compromise with the Islamists who were threatening him. After six days, when he opened his shop, two Islamists came as customers and beheaded him. The two attackers, identified as Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Mohammed Gos, were arrested by the Police. The case has been taken over by NIA under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ direction.

Uddhav Thackeray tries Hindutva one last time, renames Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv, Congress ministers leave cabinet meeting

In a hurried series of decisions taken in the cabinet meeting on 29th June 2022, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray approved renaming two cities Aurangabad and Osmanabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv respectively. The New Mumbai International Airport was also named after late mass leader DB Patil. It will now be called Late DB Patil International Airport. The cabinet meeting was held when the Supreme Court started hearing a petition against the floor test tomorrow ordered by the governor.

Cabinet ministers and Congress leaders Varsha Gaikwad and Aslam Sheikh left the meeting in the middle and walked out. Though they have not cleared the reasons, it is being speculated that they took the step because of the Hindutva agenda Uddhav Thackeray suddenly started working on. The decision to rename the cities is seen as an attempt to square the Hindutva issue Eknath Shinde claims he rebelled for.

The Uddhav Thackeray cabinet took other administrative decisions and sanctioned funds for some schemes and projects but the most talked-about were the decisions to rename the cities. Aurangabad and Osmanabad are the district places in the Marathwada region. Aurangabad is now renamed Sambhaji Nagar after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Earlier it was named after Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb. Osmanabad will now be named Dharashiv – its actual name. When the Marathwada region was ruled by the Nizam of Hyderabad, during that period, Dharashiv was named Osmanabad after Mir Osman Ali Khan – one of the Nizam rulers. Now Osmanabad will get back its original identity Dharashiv.

Some Congress members reportedly demanded to rename Pune as Jijapur or Jijau Nagar after Rajmata Jijabai – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s mother. But this remaning was not done.

It is notable that Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari has called for a floor test in the state assembly. Maha Vikas Aghadi has challenged it in Supreme Court through Sunil Prabhu who was the chief whip of Shiv Sena in the assembly. The Supreme Court is currently listening to the arguments of both sides.

At the same time, the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs who were in Guwahati have already left the city. Around 50 MLAs of the Maharashtra assembly out of which 40 MLAs are from Shiv Sena, who were staying at Hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati, boarded a chartered flight from SpiceJet after paying a visit to Kamakhya temple. The Eknath Shinde camp will reach Goa, and they move to Mumbai for the floor test tomorrow. However, this move is dependent on the court’s decision in the ongoing hearing.

Muslim leaders ‘condemn’ the beheading of Kanhaiya Lal after maintaining a deafening silence on ‘blasphemy’ provocations, ‘sar tan se juda’ chants

A day after a Hindu person named Kanhaiya Lal was murdered by two radical Islamists in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi condemned the killing and called it an act of cowardice. The Imam also said that the heinous murder was an act against Islam and that Islam was the religion of peace and tranquillity.

“The heartbreaking murder committed in Udaipur has shaken humanity. The inhumane incident of the murder of a man named Kanhaiya Lal by two persons named Riaz and Ghous and that too, in the name of the Holy Prophet, is not only an act of cowardice but an act against Islam, unlawful and inhuman”, the statement read.

It added that had the murderers studied the life and character of the Prophet and had been well versed with the spirit of the Quran and Shariah, they would not have committed the heinous crime. Also, Ajmer Dargah Deewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan condemned the incident and claimed that the Muslim community in India would never allow the Taliban mindset to surface in the country.

“No religion promotes violence against humanity. Especially, in the religion of Islam, all the teachings act as sources of peace. Some non-ethical minds committed a brutal attack on a poor man which is received as a punishable sin in the Islamic world”, he said pleading the government to take strict action against the murderers. He also claimed that the accused were part of some radical groups that believed only in the path of violence.

Reportedly, Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, who is the General Secretary of the Islamic organisation named Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind stated that there was no way to justify the murder as it was against the law of the land and the religion. “There is a rule of law in our country, no one has the right to take the law in their hands,” he said in the statement condemning the murder carried out by Riaz and Ghous Mohammad.

Even as Muslim leaders condemn the killing of a Hindu man in Udaipur, they had maintained defeating silence on chants of beheading over alleged ‘blasphemy’

It is important to note that while the above-mentioned Islamic organizations and Masjid Imams said that the murder was a huge hammer on humanity, none of them appealed to the Muslim community to stop killing humans in the name of blasphemy. In the past, several non-Muslims including Kamlesh Tiwari, Mahashay Rajpal, Christain student Deborah Samuel, Kishan Bharwad, Bajrang Dal activist Harsha, Sri Lankan man Priyantha Kumara, etc have been brutally killed for allegedly committing blasphemy. Considering the recent cases, ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal also continue to receive death threats over their alleged ‘blasphemous’ remarks.

According to the reports, Islamic juridical texts have prescribed death punishment for blasphemy. The same is agreed by all Islamic scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah as claimed by Mufti Obaidullah Qasmi from Deoband. In the countries of the Indian Subcontinent and Africa where the state has often surrendered before Islamist fundamentalism, ‘Gustakh-e-Rasool ki ek hi saza, sar tan se juda sar tan se juda’ is a war cry that is often justified. Also, in Islamic nations like Pakistan, Iran etc, people are executed or jailed for years for alleged blasphemy, if not already killed by Islamist mobs before being arrested by police.

However, according to the Global Muslim Community in the name of the Islamicity Organisation, the idea of blasphemy is foreign to Islam. It claims that ‘the idea of blasphemy was justified by many medieval Muslim scholars based on their understanding of Christian and Jewish texts supporting laws against those who blaspheme and vilify their religions’. It affirms that blasphemy is not punishable by death in the religion of Islam.

While condemning the heinous murder of Kanhaiya Lal who had supported Nupur Sharma for her alleged ‘blasphemous’ remarks, the Islamic organizations and Muslim Imams failed to address the Muslim community regarding the blasphemy as the prescribed death punishment is accepted and promoted by many Islamic scholars.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Law Board while speaking about the recent murder noted that nobody was allowed to take the law into their hands and declare someone a criminal and then murder in a highly condemnable act. It also appealed to the Muslim community ‘to act patiently and to not take law into their own hands and not indulge in any such action that might disturb the communal harmony and social cohesion of the country.

Kanhaiya Lal beheaded by Islamists over post supporting Nupur Sharma

Kanhaiya Lal was murdered on June 28 by two radical Islamists named Riaz and Ghous Mohammed. The duo disguised as customers and entered the tailoring shop of the deceased. While Kanhaiya Lal was busy taking the cloth measurements, one of the accused attacked him with a long sharp knife. The other accused recorded the entire murder on his phone. According to the post-mortem report, he was stabbed 26 times on his body from his neck to shoulder. Kanhaiya Lal was killed for uploading a social media post in support of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

‘Ban the holy book that teaches to kill, where is the award wapsi gang now?’: Ask outraging Hindus during protests against Kanhaiya Lal’s beheading

On 29th June 2022, at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a protest against the beheading of Kanhaiya Lal Teli. Kanhaiya Lal was killed by Islamists in Udaipur on 28th June 2022 for allegedly supporting Nupur Sharma. Many of the protesters were arrested by the Delhi police. Police took them to the police station in DTC buses. Apart from the protest at Jantar Mantar, many other Hindu organizations protested at different places against the brutal murder. A big crowd of Hindus also gathered and protested in front of the Rajasthan House on the Prithviraj Road.

One of the protestors said, “They are doing the things written in their book. All Nupur Sharma did was quote their scriptures. Where was she wrong in quoting that? What this gentleman Kanhaiya Lal had done? He just put a display picture to support her. He had lodged a complaint a week ago. But The Ashok Gehlot government did nothing. All these things are taught in Madarsas. Hindus were expelled out of the Kashmir valley in a similar way.”

A woman protestor said, “All the proofs are openly available in the public domain. The accused should be chopped into pieces. They should be hanged. Nupur Sharma is our sister and we will keep her photo as the display picture on social media.” The protesting women also repeated the words quoted by Nupur Sharma. The protesting women added, “They are taught to kill Hindus. They also threatened the Prime Minister in the video. If he is harmed, then there will be big trouble for those who do that.” The protestors also held and showed placards that read ‘We will not let India become Taliban’.

Another protestor said that the whole case should be seen with clarity and everyone involved in this conspiracy should be arrested. During these protests, people were demanding the administration give the accused in the public’s custody and said that the threats given to the Prime Minister are unpardonable. The protesting Hindus said, “The holy book should be banned in this country. Where are the award wapsi gang members now, who otherwise divide Hindus on various issues? Why are they silent now?”

A Bajrang Dal official said, “We will give a befitting reply to those who are crossing the limits. Bajrang Dal is ready to face all the challenges. We stand firm with every Hindu victim.” The protestors also demanded that an FIR should be registered against the administration that has failed to take action against the target killings of Hindus even after scores of complaints were lodged. People continued to raise the slogans ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ throughout the protests.

In Udaipur, a large group of people joined the last journey of Kanhaiya Lal Teli. While in Jammu and Kashmir, members of Dogra front staged protests, demanding justice for the victim. Similar protests took place in several other places across the country.

Under fire for not helping Kanhaiya Lal, Rajasthan Police ‘fact-check’ a sarcastic tweet to prove their seriousness

Rajasthan Police on Twitter has fact-checked a rhetorical claim on the arrest of Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Ghous Mohammed, who were arrested for gruesomely butchering a Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur on Wednesday. Upon rhetorically asked by a journalist whether the arrested Islamist duo would be met with strict action in the jail or not, the state police Twitter handle took it personally and went ahead to fact the question as ‘news’.

‘Fact-Check’ image shared by Rajasthan Police on Twitter

After the two murderers were arrested, a journalist on Twitter posed a sarcastic question based on the conjectures that were doing rounds. He wrote, “This is the photo of two assailants and would Biryani be served to them in Rajasthan’s jail? Had this been UP…”.

The Biryani jibe has the context of Ajmal Kasab, the lone caught Islamic terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai Attack, who was fed Biryani while he faced trial for years. The Biriyani reference is commonly used to discuss how a slow and lenient justice system lets even the hardest criminals live in comfort. However, the journalist’s tweet which was written in a lighter vein was taken quite personally by Rajasthan State Police. The department’s Twitter handle went ahead to fact-check the tweet saying that the journalist’s claims were false and the perpetrators would not be spared.

Screengrab of the Tweet by Rajasthan Police.

The Police handle in retaliation said, “Fake news is going viral. This is absolutely wrong. In Udaipur, strict action will be taken against the heinous criminals. Police will not deal softly with anti-social elements. Rajasthan Police is committed to maintaining law and order in the state.”

The eight-year-old son of the deceased victim Kanhaiya Lal had shared a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma from his mobile. However, after this, Kanhaiyalal was arrested by the Dhanmandi police station officials in Udaipur. He continued receiving death threats over the post after his release, after which he had appealed to the police for protection but the police did not take him seriously. Instead, the local police had made Kanhaiya Lal and some local Muslims sign a ‘compromise’ document and had sought to put the matter to rest.

Meanwhile, the cult of fact-checking is getting obnoxious while often projecting personal claims and opinions as serious news and then fact-checking it in order to ‘expose’ the undercurrents. This has elevated to an extent when self-proclaimed fact-checking agencies like ‘Alt-News’ have been hilariously caught scrutinizing not only personal opinions but at times memes and jokes on social media.

Not just Alt News, even other dubious ‘fact-checking’ websites such as Boom Live and far-left website The Quint have fact-checked satirical political videos posted for fun as ‘doctored’.

Mohammed Zubair arrest: Donations made to Alt News under scanner; police to also probe Zubair’s ‘social media brigade’

After the arrest of Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair by the Delhi Police Special Cell, the investigation officers said in a statement that the donations made to the Alt News website would also be probed. Hindustan Times quoted an unnamed officer investigating the case saying that they were looking into donations to the website as some of those were allegedly made from ‘across the border’.

Earlier, Delhi Police said in a statement that transactions worth 50 lakh were done from Zubair’s account in the last few days. Alt News co-founder Pratik Sinha had rebutted the allegations by Delhi Police and called it a lie. He claimed he had Zubair’s account statements to “debunk” the claims.

The Delhi Police officer said there will be an investigation into who was making the donations and “if they’re from across the border. We’ll also see if the donations are not being used to convert black money into white.” In the second part of the investigation, the Police will investigate the ‘social media brigade that Zubair has’. The Police officer said, “It appears that his tweets are planned and pushed in a concerted manner. They are amplified by an army of people. If these are bots, then who is paying these bots. We are digging deep into this network that amplifies his tweets.”

Delhi Police has also alleged that Zubair has not been cooperating in the investigation. He had refused to hand over his electronic devices and also brought a formatted phone without any apps. Countering the allegations, Zubair’s lawyer claimed that he had lost his phone, and it was communicated to the Police. “The mobile phone he has is a new one, and police are aware of aware of the matter,” she claimed.

The arrest of Mohammed Zubair

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair was arrested by Delhi Police under Sections 295 and 153A. He was sent to four-day police remand. Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO)’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) KPS Malhotra said formatting gadgets and non-cooperation in the investigation became the ground for his arrest.

100 tweets went missing from Zubair’s Twitter account, 88 while he was in Police custody

From June 27 to June 29, 100 tweets went missing from the Twitter account (@zoo_bear) of the co-founder of propaganda website AltNews, Mohammed Zubair. Notably, 88 of the 100 tweets went missing on June 28 when Zubair was in Police custody. Earlier on June 20, he had deleted 28 tweets.

While seeking remand, Delhi Police categorically said that Zubair had deleted electronic evidence and presented a blank phone when asked to produce the electronic devices. It is virtually not possible for Zubair to access any electronic device while in Police custody, and it is unclear how the tweets were deleted from his account and by whom.

The change in number was reported by the Twitter user The Hawk Eye. In a tweet, he wrote, “BIG: Md Zubair DELETED 101 tweets in the last 3 days, (88 on 28-Jun only). On June 20 he deleted at least 28 tweets. With NO access to gadgets under police remand, how its possible? Who did it? Isn’t a clear case of evidence tampering?”

OpIndia confirmed that 100 tweets had been deleted in the last three days from his Twitter account. However, the controversial tweets, including the one that was the base of the complaint by Twitter user balajikijaiin, are still intact.

However, in one tweet where he mocked Sanatan Dharma, saying, “Ancient laptops had no processors & RAM. It was later copied by Missionary Mathematician Charles Babbage. Sanskrit learning was essential for computer literacy in those days. Only Virat Hindus could operate computers as lower castes were never allowed to learn Sanskrit,” went missing.

Zubair’s Tweets targeting Hindus went viral

On June 13 and June 14, several netizens dug out Zubair’s tweets targeting Hindus after he deleted his Facebook account. He had deleted his Facebook account after several of his posts went viral on social media platforms where he had targeted Hindus. It is unclear if he has deleted the Facebook account for good or deactivated it for now.

The arrest of Mohammed Zubair

Zubair was arrested by Delhi Police after a Twitter user ‘balajikijaiin’ put up a screenshot of his post mocking Bhagwan Hanuman.

A case was lodged against him on the basis of a complaint by the Twitter user ‘@balajikijaiin’. While tagging the Delhi police, the user had pointed out how Zubair was deliberately linking Honeymoon with brahmachari Lord Hanuman from an old movie clip.

Delhi Police in its statement in the court said Zubair did not cooperate in the investigation and also alleged he formatted that phone. The Police also alleged they found transactions worth 50 lakh from his bank account in the last few days. He was sent to four-day Police custody by a Delhi Court.

Art of Taqiyya: Islamists posed as ‘customers’ to kill Kanhaiya Lal, while prime accused in Kamlesh Tiwari murder befriended him as Hindu

On June 28, a Hindu man named Kanhaiya Lal was brutally beheaded in Udaipur for an alleged post on social media in support of former spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nupur Sharma. The murderers shot a video of the incident and published it on social media. In this video, the killers said that Kanhaiya Lal was killed because he had insulted Prophet Muhammad.

Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor by profession, was killed inside his shop. The killers entered the shop posing as customers and then killed him. In October 2019, Hindutva leader Kamlesh Tiwari, too, was murdered over ‘blasphemy’ charges by Islamists. He had been facing death threats since a few years and had even written to police for protection. During the investigation it was revealed that one of the main accused, Ashfaq, had created a fake Facebook profile to befriend the Tiwari. The fake profile was in name of ‘Rohit Solanki’.

Ashfaq used this fake Facebook ID to have close conversations with Kamlesh Tiwari. Before the murder, Ashfaq had a conversation with Kamlesh Tiwari on the phone when he stated his wish to join the Hindu organisation Tiwari was part of. The meeting between Kamlesh Tiwari and Ashfaq was fixed after the conversation.

After fixing a meeting with Kamlesh Tiwari, Ashfaq reached the leader’s office and spoke with him for about half an hour. The accused then attacked the Hindu Samaj Party leader after sending Swarajjit Singh out to bring cigarettes. The Islamists were wearing saffron coloured outfits to perhaps deceive Tiwari and make it appear like it was an internal feud and not a preplanned conspiracy by Islamists.

What is Taqiyya and how it is used by Islamists?

Al-Taqiyya, or simply Taqiyya, is a term from the Quran, the holy book of Islam. It is derived from the verb “Ittaqu,” which means to lie, mislead, manipulate and create illusions for an ‘enemy of Islam’ when being persecuted. Except, in today’s day and age, it has been used by Islamists and their apologists to deceive ‘kafirs’ (non-believers of Islam) into believing they are a well-wisher only to stab them in the back (figuratively) or behead them (literally).

We’ve seen in above two cases how the Islamists have used deception as a tool (posing as customer and Hindu on Facebook to befriend Hindutva leader) to come close to the victim and then eventually kill them. In fact, during the December 2019 anti-CAA protests that had gone violent and culminated into anti-Hindu riots in February 2020, The Wire ‘journalist’ Arfa Khanum Sherwani, also an apologist of radical Islam, was heard suggesting a gathering at Aligarh Muslim University where she suggested the ‘protestors’ change their strategy and ‘appear inclusive’ and not ‘Muslim’.

She had said, “You read your Kalmas, do the Ibadat, Indian constitution is still present in that manner. But when you come out in the public, no doubt, you are a Muslim. At least for some time, we must steer clear of religious sloganeering. Do Ibadat at home. But when you decide to protest as a Muslim, that you want to look like a Muslim, you want to speak like a Muslim, you want to have all religious slogans in the protests, then you lose the battle. We are not compromising with our ideology but are changing our strategy.”

None of these people needed to hide their identity or rather pretend to be someone else. The killers of Kamlesh Tiwari and Kanhaiya Lal did it because that helped them further their intention to murder the victims in the name of Allah, thereby getting one step closer to Jannah, the mythological paradise ‘righteous’ Muslim will go after death and an Islamist believes beheading the ones who have blasphemed against Prophet Muhammad will make them ‘righteous’.

Kanhaiya Lal’s killer Riyaz Jabbar has a history of instigating people, family members distance themselves claiming no contact for 20 years

Riyaz Jabbar and Gaus Mohammed, the main accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Udaipur, are in the police custody. According to reports, accused Riyaz Jabbar has a history of inciting the people for outrage. It has come to light that even in the past, the murder accused Riyaz created a large network to instigate the public sentiments in the surrounding areas of Udaipur and Bhilwara. Though Riyaz’s family members have condemned his actions, their main focus looked to be that of alienating themselves from the accused. According to the family members, he is in no way connected to the family for the last twenty years.

Riyaz Jabbar is a resident of Asind in Bhilwara who left his home 20 years ago and moved to Udaipur. According to his family, they don’t know where did Riyaz Jabbar live all these years, when and whom did he marry and what did he do for his livelihood. Meanwhile, Riyaz Jabbar had built a large network in Udaipur where he used to instigate the people on various issues.

Riyaz Jabbar burnt an effigy of a policeman

According to sources, it was the same Riyaz Jabbar who had burnt an effigy of a policeman an year ago over a minor dispute. Last year Riyaz Jabbar created a ruckus in the Hathipole police station area. As the police force reached the spot to control the situation, Riyaz Jabbar started quarrelling with the policemen. While calming him down, an assistant sub inspector of police unknowingly touched Riyaz Jabbar’s beard. Riyaz Jabbar was so enraged over this incident, that he gathered a mob of hundreds within a few minutes and burnt an effigy of the policeman there.

The family keeps a safe distance

After Kanhaiya Lal’s murder in Udaipur, a heavy police force is deployed near Riyaz Jabbar’s home in Asind. According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the accused Riyaz’s elder brother Abdul Ayyub Lohar said, “Riyaz is the 10th sibling amongst us. I am the second. In 2001, our elder sister passed away, after which Riyaz moved to Udaipur and stayed there. He worked there and he married there. I don’t exactly know what was his job.”

Abdul Ayyub Lohar further said, “We did not have any communication for the last 20-22 years. Last night I came to know that he did this (Kanhaiya Lal’s murder). He has done a wrong act. The law will punish to the one who commits a crime. It is wrong to do such an act in the name of religion. Even though he is our brother, he will get punishment for the crime. He was not like this, when he used to live with us. We don’t know who influenced him after moving to Udaipur. He did not contact the family after that. We don’t know whom did he marry.”

The other murder accused Gaus Mohammad

Riyaz Jabbar and Gaus Mohammad together went to Kanhaiya Lal’s shop and beheaded him for supporting Nupur Sharma’s alleged insulting remarks on the Prophet Muhammad. Gaus Mohammad is a resident of Udaipur. He lives in a rented house in the Khanjipeer area. Gaus Mohammad works as a welder in Udaipur. He is also ivolved in property dealings. He is a close associate of Riyaz Jabbar for the last many years.
