Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden under the scanner for his financial dealings with China

United States senators from Iowa and Wisconsin have shared bank records showing that Hunter Biden, son of the President of the United States of America Joe Biden, was paid by a company that has links with the Chinese Communist Party. On 28th and 29th March 2022, senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson presented the relevant records on the floor of the house.

The transaction records revealed by the senators

According to a report by The Epoch Times, one of the records showed a wire payment of $100,000 to one of Hunter’s firms Owasco by a company called CEFC China Energy. This company had a close association with the Chinese regime and is now defunct.

Another record showed that a wire transfer of $5 million was made to a company called Hudson West in which Hunter Biden had already invested. This transaction is made by Northern International Capital, a business partner of CEFC. The senators also revealed that Hunter received $500,000 as a one-time retainer fee and a contract regarding the same was produced on the floor of the house.

Two other records showed that a $1 million payment was made to Hudson West by CEFC, and a transfer of $1 million was done from Hudson West to Owasco. Apparently, the money went to Hunter Biden’s account for representing Patrick Ho, a Chinese businessman who has helped CEFC gain advantages through bribery.

Who are the Chinese friends of Hunter Biden?

Senator Chuck Grassley said that these records are just a few out of the many that undeniably show strong links between the Biden family and communist China. For years, Grassley and Johnson have been probing Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden is already under a federal investigation over his financial dealings. A report in 2020 had shown that Hunter Biden has connections with Chinese nationals connected to the Chinese regime. Ye Jianming is one of those persons Hunter allegedly had dealings with. Ye Jianming is a Chinese oil tycoon who founded CEFC and since 2018, he has not been seen anywhere.

The senators discovered that Hunter Biden made millions from Ye Jianming and his company and millions more from Dong Gongwen who is a financier and business associate of Ye Jianming. The senators also informed the house that the report was largely based on records from the Obama administration and almost a dozen interviews with government officials.

Prior allegations against Hunter Biden

This is not the first time that Joe Biden is trapped in a conflict of interest allegation due to the deeds of his son Hunter Biden. On 30th March 2022, the former President of USA Donald Trump had alleged that the Russian oligarch Yelena Baturina, the wife of the Moscow mayor, gave $3.5 million a decade ago to a company set up by Hunter Biden to favor Joe Biden.

Besides, Hunter Biden is facing massive allegations of possible tax violations, money laundering, and lobbying for foreign companies. A laptop previously owned by Hunter Biden had ignited controversy after pictures and emails linking him to Ukrainian gas firm Burisma got leaked. On 25th March 2022, Russia said that US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and his investment fund Rosemont Seneca financed the Pentagon’s bio-weapon program in Ukraine.

Kerala based NGO under lens for diverting donations through Jammu and Kashmir to build mosques in Punjab

On Friday, the security agencies as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs have begun an investigation into the foreign funds received by a Kerala-based NGO named Relief and Charitable Foundation of India (RCFI). The agencies claim that RCFI diverted the donation money to Punjab through Jammu and Kashmir to construct three mosques in the Faridkot district of Punjab.

According to the reports, RCFI has no branch in Punjab. The foreign funds received by the NGO were diverted by two residents of Baramulla, Kashmir towards the construction of Mosques built between 2015 and 2017. Further, the construction of mosques located within 70 km of the Pakistan border was also supervised by the two Kashmiri residents.

The Ministry of Home Affairs clearly stated that the Kerala-based NGO had diverted Rs 70 crore for the construction before it ceased the funding in August last year. Reportedly, the matter was also looked upon by the security agencies and the Punjab Police.

It is important to note that the Faridkot district in Punjab is a sensitive area and has a less Muslim population. However, more than 200 mosques have been recently built in several border districts of Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot. Reports mention that the location of the mosques which are close to the border is also the subject of investigation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs last year cancelled the FCRA license of thousands of NGOs registered under the Act. The organizations are awaiting the decision from the government on the renewal of their permissions to receive foreign funds, but are likely to be denied permissions until the scrutiny is cleared. The RCFI claims to have sent a detailed reply to the objections raised by the MHA. The organization says that it is indulged in social work and is suffering due to the ban on international funding imposed by the government.

According to the reports, the Kerala-based NGO claims to have directly reached around 2.35 million people in 24 states with the support of national and international funding agencies and individual private donors. It works in diverse fields from water and sanitation to health and works to improve the quality of life of the marginalized community. However, the security agencies have opined that the organization has used the donation funds to construct mosques in the Faridkot district.

Bareilly: Christian boy and Muslim girl undergo gharwapsi, marry each other as per Hindu rituals

In the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, a Christian boy and a Muslim girl underwent gharwapsi and got married according to Hindu rituals. The wedding took place on Wednesday, 30th March 2022, at Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly. People of Hindu organizations acted as relatives from both sides in the marriage. The Kanyadaan ritual was performed by the priest of the temple. KK Shankhdhar, who is the chief priest of the temple, gave this information.

According to media reports, the name of the Christian groom is Sumit and the Muslim bride’s name is Noor Bi. Sumit is from Bareilly while Noor Bi is from Pilibhit. The two knew each other since class 12. Later, when they decided to marry, there was opposition based on religion. Sumit loved Sanatan values and culture, so he proposed to Noor to marry him by becoming a Hindu. Noor immediately accepted the proposal and the duo decided to undergo gharwapsi and get married.

Activists of the Hindu Yuva Vahini took both of them to the Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly. They told the whole thing to the chief priest KK Shankhdhar. Once both presented evidence of them being adults, the marriage was conducted in the ashram after they embraced Sanatan Dharma. Noor, now named Nisha, went to her in-laws’ house with her husband after the wedding.

After the wedding, Sumit and Nisha resolved to follow the path of Sanatan Dharma. Nisha said, “I am an adult. All decisions are taken thoughtfully. I will go to another distant city with my husband and live in peace. I am a devotee of Goddess Durga. I will also keep fast during the upcoming Navratri.”

The priest who presided over gharwapsi and solemnised the marriage often gets threat calls

Mahant KK Shankhdhar is the chief priest of the Agastya Muni Ashram. He organized the gharwapsi event and executed the wedding rituals. OpIndia spoke to him about this. He informed, “Noor’s father’s name is Babu Bakhsh. He is a farmer. After the marriage, the girl’s family members have lodged an FIR against Sumit and his family at Jehanabad police station in Pilibhit district. They have accused the boy and his family of kidnapping the girl. Now, further action will be taken based on the statement given by the girl to the court and the police. The girl is an adult and studies MA. She has also given an affidavit for the marriage. Sumit has been quite scared since the case was registered.” Mahant KK Shankhadhar informed that, in the affidavit, Noor wrote, “I must go through the Shuddhi rituals before marriage.”

He also informed, “I am associated with Kamlesh Tiwari‘s organization. Those who had killed Kamlesh Tiwari had called me as well. Apart from this, I have also received threats mentioning the name of Jaish-e-Mohammed. Earlier, I was given two policemen for security. But no one is here for my safety and security right now.” However, while speaking to OpIndia, the SHO of the Jehanabad police station in Pilibhit has denied registration of any case on behalf of the girl’s father in this regard.

Pro-Congress lawyer Satish Uke, who had filed Judge Loya petition, arrested by Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering probe

Satish Uke, a Nagpur-based lawyer, and his brother Pradeep were detained on Thursday in connection with a money-laundering probe. According to authorities, the brothers were arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and were scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The ED’s Mumbai team arrived at lawyer Satish Uke’s residence in the city’s Parvati Nagar region at about 6 a.m. and began searching amid heavy security provided by the Central Reserve Police Force.

According to officials familiar with the case, the money laundering case against the brothers pertains to the acquisition of around 1.5 acres of land in Nagpur some time ago, and the papers used for the land deal were reportedly fabricated. They claimed that the land acquired was in the name of the brothers.

Around 11 AM, the lawyer and his brother were taken to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office in the city’s Seminary Hills area for questioning.

Who is Satish Uke?

Satish Mahadeorao Uke is the lawyer for Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole. He has filed a number of court applications against several BJP leaders, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Satish Uke had petitioned the court to commence criminal proceedings against Fadnavis for allegedly failing to disclose information about two criminal cases against him in his election affidavit.

In the Justice Loya case, Uke had also filed a petition. He requested a police investigation into the death of CBI judge BH Loya, who was presiding over the trial in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged fake encounter case, in a plea to the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur bench. In Nagpur in 2014, the judge had died of a heart attack.

The petition by Uke was used by the Congress ecosystem to target the Modi government, even though his family members had asserted that they had no concerns regarding the circumstances of his death.

Uke was also found guilty of severe disobedience to the court. Advocate Satish Uke was found guilty of criminal contempt by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court and ordered to forfeit Rs.1 lakh of the Rs. 2 lakh he had paid as security, as well as expenses for video recording of proceedings.

The court found that Uke had instituted “frivolous and vexatious” proceedings against the judges and officers of the court, committing “abuse of process” and “contempt of court” in the process. Following the court’s order, Uke mysteriously disappeared. He had also attempted to hinder the administration of justice, the court noted in its order.

Doordarshan antennas become history, as India phases out the last set of analogue terrestrial TV transmitters: All you need to know

31 March 2022 marked an important milestone in the history of India’s broadcasting landscape as the national broadcaster, Doordarshan, phased out the last set of obsolete Analogue Terrestrial TV transmitters, ushering the country into a new era of digital reforms and keeping in sync with the rapid technological advancements.

Starting today, the Analog TV antennas that had for decades, until the arrival of cable networks and dish antennas, defined the Indian television user’s experience, have become history as the Doordarshan weaned itself away from outdated technology and embraced the new-age digital revolution dominating the broadcasting industry.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati, the CEO of Prasar Bharati, on Friday, took to Twitter to inform us about the momentous development. He said more than 1000 obsolete TV transmitters have been phased out, freeing up spectrum and manpower, and in-process saving crores of rupees in expenditure.

“Today also marks the culmination of the biggest broadcast reform by Doordarshan with the phase-out of the last set of obsolete Analog Terrestrial TV transmitters. Since 2018-2019 more than 1000 obsolete TV Txs have been phased out freeing up spectrum and manpower saving crores in expenditure,” Vempati said.

The achievement was in consonance with the announcement made by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in October 2021, setting the deadline of 31 March 2022 for completely doing away with outdated antennas except for 50 of them that are placed at strategic locations. The attainment of the deadline in this regard underscores the central government’s earnestness in fulfilling its promises and its commitment to the rapid modernisation of the country.

Doordarshan FreeDish DTH registers 100 per cent growth in households and more than 100 per cent growth in revenues

Notably, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 31 March 2022 issued a press note, informing that Doordarshan FreeDish has become the largest DTH platform with a reach of more than 43 Million households—a staggering 100 per cent growth from 22 million households in 2017. In terms of revenue, the growth is more than 100 per cent in the last five years, from 2017 to 2022.

“With improved auction processes leading to the addition of better quality & quantity of channels in various genres, between 2017 and 2022 alone, the Free DTH service of Doordarshan clocked a stellar growth of almost 100% from 22 Million in 2017 to 43 Million in 2022,” the press note said.

DD FreeDish DTH, a pet project of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, witnessed unprecedented growth from the period 2017 to 2022

DD FreeDish DTH, a brainchild of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was launched in December 2004, to expand the reach of languishing Doordarshan, which was still the first choice for economically-deprived households and making it more competitive in the face of challenges faced by the more tech-savvy and technologically superior private players.

As of today, Prasar Bharati’s DTH service DD FreeDish remains the only Free-to-Air (FTA) Direct-To-Home (DTH) Service where the viewer doesn’t have to pay any monthly subscription fee. It only requires a small one-time investment of about Rs. 2000 for purchase of the DD FreeDish set-top box, providing access to a wide range of channels to the viewer.

“DD FreeDish hosts a total of 167 TV channels and 48 Radio channels, including 91 Doordarshan channels (comprising of 51 cobranded educational channels) and 76 private TV channels. With effect from April 1, 2022, DD FreeDish private TV channels bouquet would comprise 8 Hindi general entertainment channels, 15 Hindi Movie channels, 6 Music channels, 22 News channels, 9 Bhojpuri channels, 4 Devotional and 2 foreign channels,” the press note read.

This diversification and renewed focus on reviving Doordarshan gathered momentum after PM Modi came to power in 2014, which reflects in the stunning growth it registered in the last 5 years. By contrast, the Free DTH service of Doordarshan managed to add only 22 million subscribers in the thirteen years from 2004 to 2017, a majority of them being under the Congress-led UPA governments, which had the longstanding habit of making a virtue out of mediocrity and being dismissive towards adopting new technological advancements.

How a series of Congress governments made a virtue out of mediocrity and disregarded the need for rapid technological advancement

The first TV transmitter was set up in India in 1959 in Delhi, when Jawaharlal Nehru, one of the foremost Congress leaders, was the Prime Minister of the country. It took another 13 years for another transmitter to come up, this time in Mumbai, in 1972. The fact that it took over a decade for the second antenna transmitter to come up in India is emblematic of the then Congress governments’ misplaced priorities and its utter lack of regard for revolutions that were taking root across the world.

The setting up of analogue transmitters began in earnest only in the mid-70s, when satellite television came to India for the first time in 1975. However, its growth was hobbled by India was plunged into the Emergency, when the Indira Gandhi-led government in the country imposed sweeping measures, curtailing individual rights and freedoms, suppressing dissent and jailing opposition leaders and dissident voices.

Through the intervening years after the lifting of the Emergency, Indian governments showed little interest and spirit to join the television revolution sweeping across the world. Instead, it focused on expanding its network of analogue transmitters even as the world was preparing itself to herald the dawn of the digital revolution. India registered a moderate growth of its analogue transmitter network under the leadership of various Congress Prime Ministers, including Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and others.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee ushered the country into transformational growth, with PM Modi carrying his legacy forward

However, it was only when BJP’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to power, did the Centre shifted its focus on modernising the television and broadcasting industry. Until then, no serious measures were undertaken to improve the quality and reliability of the analogue transmission, let alone investing in research and development for the next big thing in the broadcasting industry.

This, however, changed with the advent of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the centre, who took the groundbreaking step of modernising Doordarshan. He is also credited for initiating a series of transformational steps that radically transformed India. From the increased emphasis on developing infrastructure to realising India’s dream of being a nuclear state, and pioneering a telecom revolution with the New Telecom Policy, Vajpayee tried to yank India out of its self-content mediocrity that was ossified into the collective psyche of the country with decades of Congress-rule at the centre.

And like his true protege, PM Modi continued his leader’s mission to work towards realising the country’s true potential and providing its citizens, not just rich but even economically underprivileged, with twenty-first-century amenities and fruits of modern technology, at par with the developed world. The rapid digitisation sweeping the country and as illustrated by the phasing out of the analogue transmitters and the record growth of subscribers for the Free DTH service of Doordarshan, is a testament to the Modi government’s focus on modernising government organisations and augmenting their competitiveness, in line with the present-day requirements.

‘I will bombard this Prime Minister’, ’20 sleeper cells active’: Threat to assassinate PM Narendra Modi received, NIA to investigate

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), Mumbai branch, has sprung into action after it received an email with a threat to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, the anonymous email sender said that the conspiracy has been hatched and is waiting to be executed.

He wrote that many terror organizations are a part of the plan and that at least 20 sleeper cells have been activated on February 28 to carry out the execution.

The sender further added that these sleeper cells are in possession of 20kg RDX.

He told the agency that he is going to commit suicide so that this conspiracy could not be exposed.

The sender issued an open challenge to the security agency to try to stop him as he wrote, “I will kill more than 20 million people.” The threat letter further said that he will “bombard the prime minister”.

The latter said:

“Hello everyone, I have more then 20 rdx , and i have planned 20 big attacks and all 20 rdx has been planted in major cities I wan to kill modi as fast as i can, And i will bombard this prime minister, he has killed my life, destroyed my life. I will not leave anyone, i will kill more then 20 million people. People are dying so they will die from my bombs, i have met with some terrorists, they are going to help with rdx, i am happy that i have got bombs very easily and now i will blast everywhere. If you can stop me, then try to stop, but attacks are planned, I have…”.

The NIA’s Mumbai branch, which received the email, stated that it has shared it with various other agencies. The cyber security agency is currently attempting to determine the IP address from which the email was sent.

It may be recalled that in the year 2020, the NIA had received a three-word email that issued a direct threat to the PM, stating “Kill Narendra Modi”.

The email dated August 8 was received from the ‘[email protected]’ id. Sources in the security establishment had said that the origin of the email had been tracked to a location outside India.

The National Investigation Agency had then roped in the Multi-Agency Coordination Centre (MAC), which has senior representatives from R&AW, Intelligence Bureau, and the Defence Intelligence Agencies, to investigate the matter.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs had said that it is treating the matter “seriously” and had asked the Special Protection Group, which is responsible for the protection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to remain on high alert.

333 years ago, tyrant Aurangzeb brutally murdered Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj: Read about the torture that he inflicted on the King

Chhatrapati Sambaji Maharaj, a name that every Hindu takes with utmost pride for his courage, brilliance, bravery and the ultimate sacrifice he gave for the protection of the Hindu Dharma. 333 years ago today, the Hindavi Swarajya lost its second Chhatrapati, when the Islamic Tyrant Aurangzeb killed Sambhaji Maharaj after a month of horrendous torture.

Distorians like Audrey and others have tried to portray Aurangzeb as some kind of benevolent ruler, but the truth of how the Islamic invader tortured Hindu rulers is a chapter of history that can never be forgotten. In the authentic Islamic biography of Aurangzeb by Muḥammad Sāqī Mustaʻidd Khān, he has written a chapter dedicated to the capture and death of Sambhaji Maharaj.

‘Capture and execution of Sambha’ is a chapter that describes the fanatic nature of Aurangzeb and how desperately he wished to humiliate the Hindu King. Here in this chapter, in the very beginning, it is written, ”A news fell on the ears of Muslims that they were waiting for years, finally, Sambha has been captured ”.

Further, he mentions the general who was sent to capture Sambhaji Maharaj. He says, “the Shirkes had given Mukarab Khan the information that Sambaji Maharaj was staying in Sangameshwar along with Kavi Kalash, his dear friend. Shirke gave him this information as a result of a family feud”.

”Mukarabh Khan’s son Ikhlas khan went inside the Haveli and dragged Sambhaji Maharaj and Kavi Kalash by their hair and 25 of Maharaj’s chief followers and their wives were made prisoners”, he further writes.

This news reached the emperor who was staying in Akluj, after hearing this he ordered Hamduddin Khan, to bring the captives (Sambhaji Maharaj and Kavi Kalash) in chains and manacled. The writer further mentions that ”the Emperor’s devotion to Islam ordered that Sambhaji Maharaj should be made to wear a wooden cap (a sign of a criminal) and as he enters the camp, there should be drum beating and trumpets pealing so that” Muslims ” might be heartened and infidels (Hindus) will be disheartened“.

Sambhaji Maharaj along with Kavi Kalash were taken in this avatar around the entire camp so that young and old Muslims will be happy to see the infidels being captured. As Sambhaji Maharaj was brought in front of Aurangzeb, the tyrant kneeled on the carpet, facing towards the sky, posing for prayer, thanking ‘GOD‘ for this act.

Sambhaji Maharaj and Kavi Kalash were put in the dungeons of Bahadurgad the same day.  All through the King and his friend were humiliated the fire in their eyes did not seem to be deprived. Ruhilla Khan, who was sent to get information from Sambhaji Maharaj related to Marhatta treasures, mentions that Sambhaji Maharaj said, ”He will die but will never give information of the Hindavi Swarajya to this vile person”. Shambhu Raje was furious and Ruhilla Khan was surprised after seeing this.

He didn’t say a word and went to Aurangzeb. Badshah asked him to narrate what happened, but Ruhilla didn’t muster up the courage to mutter the exact words Raje said regarding Aurangzeb. On the next day of captivity, the tongue of Kavi Kalash was cut out. In the following few days, Sambhaji Raje was asked to surrender to Islam but he never accepted it. The eyes of both these men were gouged out. They were introduced to the tortures of the worst forms as suggested by the ‘holy book’ to be done against Infidels. After suffering a lot of torture, Sambhaji Maharaj and Kavi Kalash were hacked to death limb by limb. Aurangzeb was not able to make Sambhaji Maharaj bow before him in his entire lifetime.

The news that the prince of Maratha Swarajya is dead reached the Maratha Camp. This angered the Marathas even more and they made sure that Auranzgeb never won the Deccan. 27 years, fanatic Aurangzeb fought the Marathas and died like an insect in Ahmednagar.

While our history books gloss over these truths, every Hindu needs to know this history and the sacrifice that their King made to save the Hindu Dharma, the Maratha Swarajya and should also remember the fanaticism of Aurangzeb in the name of religion!

‘We are ready to supply India any goods it wants to buy’: Russian FM Sergey Lavrov meets EAM Jaishankar in Delhi

On Friday, amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in New Delhi and appreciated India’s approach to react to the situation in the entirety of the effect and not just one-sided way.

“These days our western colleagues would like to reduce any meaningful international issue to the crisis in Ukraine. We do not fight anything and we appreciated that India is taking this situation in the entirety of effect and not just one-sided way”, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on April 1 as he discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries at length.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, EAM Jaishankar mentioned that the bilateral relations between India and Russia had continued to grow in many areas. Referring to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Jaishankar said that the meeting between the two leaders came amid a ‘difficult international environment’. “Our bilateral relations have continued to grow in many areas. Our meeting takes place in a difficult international environment quite apart from the pandemic”, he said adding that India has always favoured resolving disputes through diplomacy.

Lavrov also mentioned during the presser that Russia is ready to supply India any goods that India wants and the two nations enjoy very good bilateral relations.

The two leaders also discussed the recent developments in trade and economic relations. EAM underlined that global volatility in different domains was of particular concern to India. “It is important for both countries that their economic, technological, and people-to-people contacts remain stable and predictable”, he said.

Sergey Lavrov arrived in India on Thursday on a two-day official visit, this being his first trip to the country since Moscow launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. According to the reports, he reached India after his two-day visit to China. MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi yesterday posted a video of Lavrov’s arrival with the caption, “Welcoming the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov as he arrives in New Delhi for an official visit.”

On Wednesday, Lavrov held talks with China’s Wang Yi and informed him that Russia was committed to easing the ongoing tensions with Ukraine and maintaining communication with the international community. The duo also pledged to strengthen the bilateral ties. Lavrov’s visit to India also coincides with that of US Deputy National Security Adviser Daleep Singh and British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

Russian leaders and elites are facing western sanctions, including an asset freeze and travel ban considering the country’s situation with Ukraine. Unlike many other leading powers, India has abstained from the votes at the UN platforms in condemning the Russian aggression. India has instead been pressing for the resolution of the crisis through diplomacy and dialogue.

Despite repeated and relentless attempts by Western powers to get India to condemn Russia, and join them in imposing sanctions against the country, India has refrained from it and has maintained that it wants a resolution to the conflict through dialogues and diplomacy.

No relief to Rana Ayyub as Delhi High Court seeks status report on pending ED investigation in money laundering case

In a big setback to donation fraud accused ‘journalist’ Rana Ayyub, the Delhi High Court on Friday refused to give any interim order on her plea seeking permission to travel outside India and allowed the Enforcement Directorate to file a status report on the pending investigation against her.

Controversial ‘journalist’ Rana Ayyub had filed a petition requesting the Delhi High Court to allow her to travel outside India to attend an event. On March 29, she was stopped by Indian Immigration officials from boarding a flight to London concerning the money laundering case against her. She has been accused of financial fraud over allegations of violation of provisions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the court that important documents need to be brought on record in order to explain the case against Rana Ayyub. The Additional Solicitor General, representing the Enforcement Directorate, said they would submit the documents before the court on Monday.

“This case is not as simple as what is being portrayed. Rana Ayyub raised funds under the garb of covid relief and money running into up to 2 crores. They have been siphoned off. These were received in INR, Dollars. Fake bills were submitted by her in the name of relief work. A deposit of 50 lakh was created for herself by Rana Ayyub, and 50 lakhs were transferred for personal consumption. A lookout notice was issued much earlier,” Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the court.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating Ayyub for donations she raised through an online crowdfunding platform, “Ketto”, for coronavirus pandemic relief work. The Enforcement Directorate attached assets worth Rs 1.77 crore of Rana Ayyub over allegations of violation of provisions of the Money Laundering Act.

Earlier, Rana Ayyub’s lawyer Vrinda Grover had claimed that her client’s rights were being meddled with, and her right to practice her profession was being put down.

“If people are being critical of the state, will they then not allow me to speak? What have they kept me here for?” she said.

Rana Ayyub’s counsel further stated, “The Petitioner being a journalist who speaks truth to power, is at times perceived to be a source of some discomfort or inconvenience for the government, but that is no ground to deny the Petitioner her right to travel abroad and exercise her freedom of speech and expression, as well as to practise her profession as a journalist”.

The lawyer said that the whole idea has been to frustrate Ayyub’s trip and claimed that the ED had nothing to show.

The Delhi High Court will hear the case on Monday, April 4, 2022.
