Amit Shah assures Punjab CM Channi of a thorough probe into AAP’s alleged links with Khalistani organisation ‘Sikhs For Justice’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday assured Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi of “personally looking into” allegations of alleged links between banned Khalistani organisation ‘Sikhs for Justice’ and the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP).

Shah wrote a letter to Punjab CM Channi informing him that the government of India has taken the matter seriously and that he would personally ensure that the matter is looked into in detail.

In his letter, Amit Shah wrote: “As per your letter, a political party who is alleged to have been in contact with and soliciting support from an anti-national, separatist and banned outfit during elections is a serious matter in the context of national security.”

“The agenda of such people is in accordance with the agenda of the nation’s enemies. It is deplorable that some people, in order to grab power, can go to the extent of joining hands with separatists and endangering the integrity of Punjab and the country,” the letter said.

Shah further added, “I assure you that no one will be allowed to imperil the nation’s unity. The Government of India is taking this issue seriously and I will personally look into the matter in depth.”

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi writes to Amit Shah seeking a probe into alleged ties between AAP and SFJ

The letter was in response to a letter written by Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi seeking a probe into alleged ties between AAP and pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

In his letter to the Union Home Minister, the Punjab Chief Minister said, “Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which is a banned organization, is in constant touch with Aam Admi Party. The SFJ has given support to AAP in the elections to the State Assembly in 2017 and similarly in these elections too. The SFJ has exhorted the electorate to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party.”

“This is a serious issue of compromising the security and integrity of the country and thus needs to be investigated. I would urge you to immediately get this matter investigated for taking appropriate action in this regard,” Channi said in his letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

It is worth noting that former AAP member Kumar Vishwas had earlier this week accused Arvind Kejriwal of harbouring separatist dreams. He said that at one point, Kejriwal claimed he would either become Chief Minister of Punjab or will become first Prime Minister of an independent nation (Khalistan). Today, Kumar reiterated his allegations against Kejriwal, saying that the AAP supremo met terror sympathisers in his home during the last assembly elections in Punjab.

Assembly polls for all 117 assembly seats in Punjab will take place on February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10.

Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar sent to ED custody till 24th February in a money laundering case

Iqbal Kaskar, brother of the infamous gangster Dawood Ibrahim, was sent to ED custody till 24th February 2022 in a money laundering case on Friday. Kaskar was imprisoned in Thane in an extortion case and was brought before the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court today.

ED had recently registered a money laundering case against Dawood Ibrahim and his aides for their involvement in funding the terror activities and had arrested him earlier in the day. The ED will now interrogate Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar, his aides, and gang members in the case. The ED’s plea to take Iqbal Kaskar in custody was approved by the special court.

On February 16, the special court in Mumbai had issued a production warrant against Kaskar in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Moreover, the court directed the Taloja Central Jail authorities to produce Kaskar before it after ED’s counsel Hiten Venegavkar requested the court to do so. Accordingly, ED had arrested him from the jail today and produced him before special PMLA judge M G Deshpande.

Iqbal Kaskar’s lawyer Sultan Khan argued that Iqbal Kaskar is being harassed just because he happens to be the brother of Dawood Ibrahim. The lawyer told the court, “Iqbal had no relation with Dawood Ibrahim after Dawood had left the country. Iqbal Kaskar has nothing to do with the matter that ED has to investigate. Iqbal Kaskar has been in jail for several months.”

Iqbal Kaskar was allegedly working for his brother and handling his gang activities and illegal business interests in Mumbai and other areas. Recently, it was known that Dawood Ibrahim’s gang was operating in the country and that it was running terror activities, trying to disrupt law and order.

Earlier this week, ED had raided various locations in Mumbai as the ED has registered a money laundering case against Pakistan-based fugitive Dawood Ibrahim based on an FIR registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). It is notable that some of the places are in the Nagpada area which was once a stronghold area of Dawood Ibrahim.

Kaskar was made an accused in the money laundering case registered by the ED against Pakistan-based fugitive Dawood Ibrahim after his name had emerged during the interrogation of Salim Qureshi, a close aide of Chhota Shakeel, the dreaded underworld gangster and a high-ranking leader of Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company.

Iqbal Kaskar is already lodged in a jail in Thane after he was arrested on September 9, 2017, for forcibly extorting one flat and ₹90 lakh as protection money from builder Suresh Jain.

‘Ahmedabad serial blasts were a broad pan-India conspiracy, then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi was one of the high-profile targets’: IPS Abhay Chudasama

On Friday, a special court today awarded death penalties to as many as 38 of the 49 convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts. The court awarded the remaining convicts life sentences.

Following the much-awaited verdict, IPS officer Abhay Chudasama, who was the DCP(Crime) during the Ahmedabad blasts, lauded the judgement saying that he was happy that justice was finally delivered after all the painstaking effort. Abhay Chudasama was part of the special team of Ahmedabad Crime Branch led by senior IPS officer Ashish Bhatia that uncovered the terror plot.

Speaking to News18, Abhay Chudasama, one of the chief investigations of the Ahmedabad bomb blast case, said, “It’s a big day for me. This is a landmark judgement. My team and I are very happy with the decision. This case was a big challenge for us. We are happy that justice is delivered”.

The 1999-batch IPS officer said the serial blasts that occurred On July 26, 2008, resulted in at least 60 deaths. The initial investigations revealed certain significant information regarding the terrorists and their movements near Bharuch district.

“We reached a house in Bharuch, from where we recovered chemicals and explosives. We recovered a telephone number and fake SIM cards. One of the numbers recovered from the terrorists were also linked to the Indian Mujahideen terrorists, who were neutralised in the Batla House encounter on September 19 2008,” Chudasama said.

The police officer also revealed that the terrorists had conspired to kill high-level targets such as the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in addition to targeting civilians. He said that terrorists had triggered the bombs in the evening in about 18 locations and two more inside the LG and Civil hospitals as they expected high-level targets to visit the spot on the day of terror attacks.

The police officer also recounted that the blasts at the hospitals were so intense that the body parts of the victims were found almost 200 metres away from their bodies. Abhay Chudasama also said that the Ahmedabad blasts were part of a broad pan-India conspiracy as the Indian Mujahideen terrorists were involved in terror attacks in Jaipur and Delhi.

Ahmedabad blasts

As many as 22 bombs went off in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008, at various places, buses, cars, including the state government-run civil hospital, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run LG Hospital, killing 56 persons and leaving 200 injured. Of the total 24 bombs, two bombs placed at Kalol and Naroda did not go off.

Within three weeks of the attack, major arrests, in this case, had taken place owing to the coordinated efforts of the Gujarat police and the ATS. A big network of the Indian Mujahidin terrorists was exposed. These terrorists were also involved in the bomb blasts in other cities of the country.

The Gujarat police had claimed that these attacks were executed as an attempt to take revenge for the 2002 post-Godhra riots. Indian Mujahidin was a section of the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India that is SIMI. The terrorists have threat emails about these blasts to various news channels and media houses. Also, a few days after the blasts, a large number of live bombs were found and defused in Surat city of Gujarat.

Almost thirteen years later, the special court in Ahmedabad convicted 49 people for their role in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case.

Indian embassy in Kuwait calls out Shashi Tharoor for endorsing an anti-India tweet by a ‘Pakistani agent’

The official Twitter account of the Indian embassy in Kuwait slammed Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for retweeting an “anti-India tweet” posted by a “Pakistani agent”, asserting that such anti-India elements should not be encouraged.

“Sad to see an Hon’ble Member of Indian Parliament retweeting an anti-India tweet by a Pakistani agent who was the recipient of a Pakistani Award ‘Ambassador of Peace’ for his anti-India activities. We should not encourage such anti-India elements,” the official Twitter account of the Indian Embassy in Kuwait tweeted along with the picture of “Ambassador of Peace” certificated awarded by Pakistan to one Majbel Alshureha.

The embassy’s response was to a tweet posted by Shashi Tharoor, who quoted a Twitter handle that said a group of powerful Kuwaiti parliamentarians have sought the country’s government to put an immediate ban on the entry of any member of the ruling BJP into the country. The tweet was posted by Majbel Alshureha Al Rashidi, who purports himself to be a ‘human rights activist’. Several Congress supporters and social media users sympathetic to the Congress also retweeted Alshureha’s tweet to target the Centre over the hijab row.

Quoting the Twitter post, Tharoor said, “Domestic actions have international repercussions. I hear from friends across the Gulf of their dismay at rising Islamophobia in India &the PM’s unwillingness to condemn it, let alone act decisively against it. ‘We like India. But don’t make it so hard for us to be your friends’,” Tharoor had tweeted.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its stand on criticism by some countries over the hijab row in Karnataka, stating that comments by outsiders on internal issues will not be acceptable.

The gallantry award-winning police officer was under investigation after a tip-off from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) that he was leaking secret information to Khurram Parvez, an overground operative of Lashkar. Khurram Parvez, who pretended to be human rights activist, was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The IPS officer was under investigation for espionage, extortion, and breach of the Official Secrets Act. NIA had also searched Negi’s residents during the investigation.

‘Can you declare you are against Khalistan?’: Kumar Vishwas challenges Arvind Kejriwal after he denies separatist charge

Former AAP member Kumar Vishwas on Friday hit back at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal after the latter rejected allegations of harbouring separatist dreams, terming them “comedy” and characterising himself as the world’s “sweetest terrorist”. Lashing out at Kejriwal, Vishwas said the AAP supremo met terror sympathisers in his home during the last assembly elections in Punjab.

In his interview with ANI, Vishwas said that Kejriwal and AAP party were consorting with separatists and terror sympathisers during the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections in 2017.

“Nobody called you a terrorist. But, we would like to know, didn’t people who sympathised with terror organisations come to your home during the last assembly elections in Punjab? When I raised an objection against it, I was ousted from the party’s Punjab meetings. I somehow got into one of the meetings and saw the same people attending it. When I warned him(Kejriwal) about the people he was fraternising with, he told me it will benefit us,” Vishwas said.

In a scathing attack against Kejriwal, Vishwas said the AAP supremo has two strong suits—one is to lie through his teeth with remarkable confidence and the other one is to pull out a victim card and claim that the entire world is targeting him. “He used these strong suits to first deceive the country, then his party associates, and finally the people of a state,” Vishwas said.

Calling Kejriwal’s allegations that he is being targeted by the opposition parties a sham, Vishwas challenged him to announce that he will be fighting against Khalistan and Khalistanis and would not let them flourish under his rule. “I challenge Kejriwal, can he denounce Khalistan? Can he proclaim that he will be fighting against Khalistanis? Can he declare that Khalistan will never become a reality?” Vishwas asked.

Arvind Kejriwal claims to be ‘world’s sweetest terrorist’ after Kumar Vishwas accused him of harbouring separatist dreams

Earlier today, Kejriwal played victim to fend off allegations of harbouring separatist tendencies that were levelled against him by Kumar Vishwas in an earlier interview. Kejriwal rubbished the allegations as “comedy”, and alleged that he might be the world’s “sweetest terrorist” for building schools and hospitals.

On February 16, during an interview with news agency ANI, former Aam Aadmi Party leader and poet Dr Kumar Vishwas called out Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal for extending support to separatists. He said that at one point, Kejriwal claimed he would either become Chief Minister of Punjab or will become first Prime Minister of an independent nation (Khalistan).

Vishwas was talking about Kejriwal’s campaigns in the Punjab assembly elections. He said Kejriwal should understand Punjab is not just a state but an emotion. He said, “Amidst this, a person like him, whom I suggested not take support from the separatists and fringe elements who were linked to the Khalistani movement in the last elections, and he told me not to worry. When I asked him how he would become CM, he told me the formula as well. He is on the same path. Even if he is not on the same path, he will use a puppet to control the government.”

CBI nabs AAP councillor Geeta Rawat red-handed while taking bribe, also arrests groundnut seller Sanaullah who used to collect bribes for her

0

On Friday, the Anti Corruption Branch of CBI arrested Aam Aadmi Party Councillor Geeta Rawat on the charges of corruption. According to the reports, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation councillor had demanded Rs 20,000 under the table from a person for extending him the favour to lay the roof of his building.

After the AAP leader demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for approving the construction of a roof by a person, that person had approached the CBI with a complaint. After this, the CBI had laid a trap to bust this scam.

According to the reports, the bribe was mediated to Rawat through a small scale businessman named Sanaullah who sells groundnuts. Sanaullah puts up his groundnut stall in front of the office of Councillor, and those who need to bribe Geeta Rawat were asked to deposit the money with him. As part of the trap, disguised officers gave some money to Sanahullah and asked him to do the ‘favor’. As he moved to Rawat’s office to ‘deliver the parcel’, the CBI officers nabbed him and after that arrested the AAP leader.

CBI had marked the notes given to Sanaullah with colour, and when they searched the office of Geeta Rawat, they recovered the same notes, thus catching her literally red-handed. Both the accused are being questioned by CBI at present.

BJP National Spokesperson slammed the Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party and confirmed that Rawat had been arrested from Delhi for taking bribe. “Will Kejriwal stop playing victim card and answer this SWEET CORRUPTION?”, he tweeted.

BJP Delhi spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor also criticized the AAP govt over the episode and cornered CM Kejriwal for accusing BJP Delhi of corruption earlier. “The Aam Aadmi Party used to accuse the BJP councillors of corruption every day. But today AAP is exposed”, he said asking answers from CM Kejriwal and Dy CM Manish Sisodiya.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has several times in the past accused BJP of indulging in corruption. In the year 2021, he had blamed BJP for the poor financial condition of the municipal corporations in Delhi. “The AAP has been actively campaigning against the corruption by the BJP. The MCDs are in a shambles because of their corruption”, he had said. Recently, ahead of the assembly polls, the AAP also termed BJP and other political parties as corrupt and slammed them for allegedly targeting Arvind Kejriwal.

Geeta Rawat reportedly is said to be a close aide of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Dy CM Manish Sisodiya. The development has warmed up the political atmosphere in Delhi Municipal Corporation which is slated to go on polls in the next two months. The CBI investigations in the case are underway with two arrests so far.

Malaysia: Female minister of women advises husbands to beat their wives to discipline them, activists demand her resignation

0

Malaysian deputy minister of women, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, is facing the heat from the citizens after advising men to beat their wives to discipline them. The minister, who herself is a woman, had posted a video from her Instagram account on 12th February 2022, in which she had said that husbands should use the “physical touch approach” to punish women for unruly behaviour. This statement by the minister has caused outrage in Malaysian society and people are demanding her immediate resignation.

In the two-minute-long video, the minister had advised the husbands to deal with the unruly behaviour of their wives step by step in which she had described in detail what step to take at what point in time. After this, she has gone ahead explaining to the women how they can keep their husbands happy and when they must talk to him, etc. The video is titled ‘The Mother’s Tips’.

As per a report by the Independent News, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff told the husbands in her video that they should first speak to their undisciplined and stubborn wives and make them aware of the proper way to behave. She further added that if the wives do not listen to their husbands, then the husbands should stop sharing the beds with their wives.

Explaining further, she had said, “However, if the wife still refuses to take the advice, or change her behaviour after the sleeping separation, then the husbands can try the physical touch approach, by striking her gently, to show his strictness and how much he wants her to change.”

Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff is an MP for Parti-Islam-se-Malaysia. This party is an Islamic party with conservative values. Further preaching to women on how to keep their husbands happy, the minister said in the video, “Speak to your husbands when they are calm, finished eating, have prayed, and are relaxed. When we want to speak, ask for permission first.”

Various activists and women’s rights groups in Malaysia have come together against this statement by minister Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff. They have criticized these remarks saying that this is how one legitimizes domestic violence. The activists are demanding the immediate resignation of the minister.

Joint Action Group (JAG) for Gender Equality has released a statement in which it has said, “The deputy minister must step down for normalizing domestic violence which is a crime in Malaysia as well as for perpetuating ideas and behaviors that are opposed to gender equality. During the movement control order period in 2020 and 2021 alone, there were 9,015 police reports on domestic violence; these statistics may not include reports received by NGOs and other support organizations.”

JAG has further said, “There is often a stigma and fear attached to reporting domestic violence and this is made worse by statements such as those of Siti Zailah.”

It must be noted that Islamic preacher and absconding accused of instigating violence, Dr. Zakir Naik has also endorsed this wife-beating phenomenon through his lectures. He is in Malaysia. Whether it be this Malaysian minister or Dr. Zakir Naik or any other Islamist endorsing wife-beating, it must be noted that the root cause of the notion lies in the holy book which says in chapter number 4 verse number 34, “Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.”

Anti-CAA rioters in UP will still pay for the damages, under the new law: Read how misleading headlines are portraying half-truth

The Supreme Court’s order on Friday directing the Uttar Pradesh government to refund the money obtained from people who destroyed public property during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in the state has been reported in the media in a misleading manner.

The Supreme Court was hearing a plea filed by Parwaiz Arif Titu, who wanted the orders issued by the district administration to accused rioters to collect losses made to public property during the anti-CAA violence quashed. He was represented by Advocate Nilofar Khan who said the poor were unable to pay the sum attached by the government.

News portals have reported only the first portion of the order, saying the court has asked the UP government to refund the amount recovered from the anti-CAA rioters.

The report by India Today mentioned that “The Supreme Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to refund the complete amount collected after recovery notices that were issued to purported anti-CAA protestors were withdrawn by the state, following criticism by the top court.” The other portion of the order, though, was not mentioned.

the news report by India Today.

Similarly, other media portals and individuals also shared the first portion of the order. A Twitter user with username @Delhiite_ wrote, “Huge relief for Anti CAA protestors SC directs UP govt to refund crores recovered from anti_CAA_NRC_protestors.”

Barkha Dutt’s Mojo Story (@themojostory) tweeted “#SupremeCourt has directed the #UP government to refund the money received through recovery notices issued for damages caused to public property during the anti #CAA protests in 2019.”

Several misleading headlines and people rejoicing.

The actual order of the Supreme Court

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that money collected from persons accused of damaging public property during the anti-CAA agitations in Uttar Pradesh be returned.

However, the court made it very clear to all that the government can issue fresh notices against the rioters and can re-attach the properties under the new law that was brought by the UP government.

“The State as clarified is at liberty to proceed in accordance with the law that is the State legislation of 2021,” the court directed. This means the damages which were recovered can be recovered again by the State based on the outcome of the claims tribunals proceedings after issuing fresh notices under the Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public Property Act, 2021, the court order stated.

The court order, screenshot from Bar and Bench article

Kanchan Gupta, senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tweeted revealing the misreporting of the news. He wrote, Hold the biriyani. Mute the music. Wipe your smiles. Alleged law handles and @PTI_News are (deliberately?) misreporting UP Govt withdrawing 2019 notices to #CAA vandals for damaging public property. SC has said damages must be recovered from CAA vandals, but under 2020 law.”

After the Uttar Pradesh government informed the Supreme Court on Friday that it has withdrawn the show cause notices addressed to anti-CAA protesters for damage recovery, a Bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant issued this order.

Recently on February 11, the apex court had directed that all the notices issued for recoveries by the district administration should be withdrawn and fresh notices under the Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act, 2020 could be issued.

Additional Advocate General Garima Prashad brought it to the notice of the bench today that on the 14th and 15th of February 2022, two government orders were issued under which show cause notices issued in 274 cases for the destruction of public property since December 2019 were revoked. She further stated that such instances would now be sent to the Tribunals established by the 2020 Act.

Violent anti-CAA protests and UP govt’s action against rioters

It’s worth noting that the Uttar Pradesh government had dealt with the damages to the public property done by violent mobs during the anti-CAA protests very strictly and had made clear that the properties of violence instigators will be seized and the damages will be recovered from them.

To collect damages from rioters, the Uttar Pradesh government brought the Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act, 2020. According to the law, the state would establish claims courts to examine and provide compensation for damages caused during protests, as well as to reimburse the costs of police and administrative actions taken to avoid damage to public property.
