Actress and Bharatnatyam dancer Sudhaa Chandran has shared a post on Instagram to reveal how it pains her when she is asked to remove her artificial limb each time she is going through security “grill” at the airport while on a professional trip.
Captioning her post: “Totally hurt ….each time going thru this grill is very very hurting….hope my message reaches the state Nd central govt authorities….and expecting a prompt action …..,” the actor has appealed to PM Narendra Modi to issue special cards to disabled people, similar to one issued to senior citizens, which would save them from such harassment, stating that it “hurts.”
The 56-year-old Sudhaa Chandran had lost her leg in an accident on May 2, 1981. She had returned to dancing and acting again using a prosthetic foot.
The actor, while narrating her harrowing experiences at airports every time she travels for work, said that despite requesting the airport authorities to conduct an “ETD (Explosive Trace Detector) for her artificial limb,” they ask her to remove it every time.
In a video, she said: “Good evening, this is a very personal note that I want to tell to our dear Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, this is an appeal to the central government, I am Sudhaa Chandran, an actress and dancer by profession, who has danced with an artificial limb and created history and made my country very proud of me.”
She further added: “But every time that I go on my professional visits, each time, am stopped at the airport and when I request them at the security, to the CISF officers that please do an ETD (Explosive Trace Detector) for my artificial limb, they still want me to remove my artificial limb and show it to them. Is this humanly possible, Modi ji? Is this what our country is talking about? Is this the respect that a woman gives to another woman in our society? It is my humble request to you Modi ji that please give senior citizens a card that says they are senior citizens.”
Anticipating a speedy response, she expressed hope that her appeal reaches the government.
Sudha Chandran is an Indian actress and an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer. She started her career with Telugu film Mayuri, which was based on her own life. She had won the special jury award at the National Film festival for the movie. Recently, Sudhaa has been seen in TV shows like ‘Kaahin Kissii Roz’ and all the seasons of ‘Naagin’.
American actor and producer Alec Baldwin is in the news again for ‘accidentally’ shooting a cinematographer with a prop gun on the set of a movie called the ‘Rust’. Reportedly, the director of the movie was injured and the director of cinematography Halyna Hutchins was killed in the incident.
The shooting is suspected to be an accident and no charges have been filed yet according to the police leading the investigation.
The latest media reports showed the shooting venue cordoned off while the police investigate the death.

The Hollywood Actor has been known over the years for his violent antiques and eccentric behaviour, from fights with photographers to calling his then eleven-year-old child Ireland Baldwin a “rude, thoughtless little pig”. Let us recall some of Baldwin’s past incidents that have made headlines.
Fight with a photographer in 1995
In October 1995, the actor sprayed shaving cream on a photographer Alan Zanger’s car windows outside his Woodland Hills, California, home. This led to a ‘scuffle’ between the actor and the photographer where Zanger claimed that Baldwin had broken his nose. Then the actor had defended himself saying that he just ‘slapped’ the camera out of the photographers’ hands, as reported by People magazine.
Misbehaving with American Airlines staff in 2011
Baldwin was expelled from an American Airlines flight for using offensive language and misbehaving with the Airlines staff in 2011. The actor had then said, “Flight attendant on American reamed me out for playing ‘Words With Friends’ while we sat at the gate, not moving,” and also added “Last flight with American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950s find jobs as flight attendants.”
Another fight with a photographer in 2012
A Daily News photographer Marcus Santos had claimed that he was punched by the actor to which Baldwin’s representative had replied, “As Alec and his fiancée [Hilaria Baldwin] were leaving City Hall, a ‘civilian’ walking in front of Alec positioned himself to obstruct the view of a photographer aggressively trying to shoot the couple. The photographer was clearly frustrated, pushed past the bystander and assaulted Alec with his camera. There were no punches thrown, and any subsequent physical contact was simply Alec protecting himself.”
Arrested for riding his bike the wrong way in 2014
The actor was arrested for riding his bike the wrong way on Fifth Avenue ignoring the warnings issued by the authorities. NYPD spokesperson informed that Baldwin refused to slow and went the wrong way even after receiving warnings. The spokesperson also accused Baldwin of disorderly conduct.
Punching a man in 2018
The New York City Police Department had charged the actor with assault and harassment in 2018 after Baldwin had punched a man on East 10th Street between University Place and Broadway. It was reportedly a row over a parking space.
US President Joe Biden has quite a ‘potty mouth’, according to several of his former and current aides, Politico has reported. His language is quite profane and drops the f-word frequently.
According to his aides, Joe Biden is known to use cuss words such as “F*ck them,” “What the f*ck are we doing?” “Why the f*ck isn’t this happening?” “bullsh*t,” “dammit” and “f*ck”. He is known to say sometimes, “don’t bullsh*t a bullsh*tter.”
“When he gets going he definitely gets going,” one White House official said. US Vice President Kamala Harris, on the other hand, uses “motherf*ck-ah” the most. She has hinted at it in an interview as well.
Joe Biden is not the first US President known to cuss often in the White House. Former President Barack Obama admitted that he cussed more often during his presidential tenure than he did previously. Donald Trump was, obviously, known to cuss and cuss often.
About Biden, one source told Politico, “When he cusses around women, it is always, and I mean always, followed by an immediate apology.” “He’s from a different generation but if there’s people that are younger than him, especially women, he feels like, ‘Hey, how would I feel if I was cussing around my daughter or my granddaughter?’”
Some find Biden’s rants endearing and others noted that it is true as long as they are not at its receiving end.

Following the acrimonious fallout between former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and the Congress party, Punjab Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa called for a probe into whether Amarinder Singh’s Pakistani friend Aroosa Alam has links with the country’s notorious intelligence agency ISI.
“Since Captain claims Punjab is facing a threat from the ISI, we will be probing the relation of his friend Aroosa Alam with the ISI,” Randhawa told NDTV in an interview. Alam is a defence journalist and is widely regarded as a close friend of Captain Amarinder Singh.
Randhawa said he has asked the Punjab police chief to probe the allegations of Alam’s link with Pakistan’s military officers and the ISI.
“Captain has been harping on the issue of drones coming over from Pakistan for the last four-and-a-half years. So Captain (sahab) first raised this issue and later got BSF deployed in Punjab. So it seems a big plot which needs to be probed,” Randhawa said.
The state home minister also alleged that the former CM got the inquiry into the January 2017 Maur bomb blast case stalled and promised to open the probe.
He said, “We are set to order a re-inquiry into the case and will surely send culprits to jail.” Significantly, the blast had taken place close to an election rally venue of Congress leader Harminder Singh Jassi. Two inquiries ordered into the incident had pointed to the involvement of the Dera Sacha Sauda. Jassi’s daughter is wedded to the Dera chief’s son.
The attack against Singh came a day after he slammed the Congress party for its duplicity in its criticism of his plans to ally with the BJP. Singh had pulled up Congress saying it had no authority to sermonise others on secularism when it joined hands with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and had inducted many leaders from the BJP, including the current PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Captain’s remark was in response to Congress’s Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat, who had called Mr Singh’s announcement “shocking” and said it appeared that he had “killed the secular Amarinder within him”.
Nevertheless, the call for ordering an inquiry into Singh’s Pakistani friend’s links with the ISI is the sharpest attack yet on the former Congress leader.
Who is Aroosa Alam?
Aroosa Alam is a former Pakistani defence journalist and was known in Pakistani circles for having close ties with the military establishment. Alam is the daughter of Akleen Akhtar, also known as the famous General Rani, a socialite who was described by the Pakistani media as the “muse and mistress” of Pakistani leader Yahya Khan.
General Rani was also considered as the brains behind Khan and certain access to him. Consequently, she became the gateway to the General, and her importance in military establishment scaled new heights. Alam inherited her mother’s military network.
Alam was widely credited for her investigative reports on the Agosta-90B submarine deals that reportedly led to the arrest of then Pakistan naval chief Mansurul Haq in 1997.
However, she rapidly rose into prominence after joining the South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) that was involved in promoting peace and friendship between the Indian and Pakistani journalists.

Aroosa met Captain Amarinder Singh for the first time during one of his visits to Pakistan. Both were linked for the first time in 2007 when they were seen together a number of times. But, Aroosa had instantly clarified then that they were ‘just friends’. However, she subsequently shed her initial awkwardness and since then has been quite forthright about her relationship status with Captain Amarinder Singh.
In Punjab, Aroosa is known to be a muse—a special, close, lady friend of the former Maharaja of Patiala and erstwhile chief minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh. She is a well-accepted hostess in Chandigarh, spending a considerable amount of her time among the elites of the city, regaling them with her love for yoga, and of course, Captain Amarinder Singh.
Alam was a prominent face on the hustings for the Punjab assembly elections in 2017 where she was seen campaigning for Captain Amarinder Singh. Alam was also present at the launch of Captain Amarinder Singh’s biography ‘The People’s Maharaja’ in February 2020. It is pertinent to note that the book has a dedicated chapter on Singh’s relationship with Aroosa, who had openly described that her friendship with Singh was beautiful, will last long and was something that she was very proud of.
Aroosa is also acutely aware of the eyebrows that are raised because of her association with Punjab chief minister. “My relationship is a sensitive issue even back home, I am a Muslim woman and you know how people back home think,” said Aroosa in February 2018 when she was in Chandigarh.
Amid outrageous violence against the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has postponed an exhibition of the artwork of Bangladeshi artist Rokeya Sultana which was set to start from October 23 at the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi.
The exhibition was to feature over 100 artworks, 35-40 photographs, animation videos, film and sculptures of this Bangladeshi artist. The exhibition aimed to capture 40 years of the journey of Rokeya Sultana.
Sultana had worked in Santiniketan under ICCR’s scholarship as a student under the guidance of Somnath Hore, Sanat Kar and Lalu Prasad Shaw. Safiuddin Ahmed and Mohammad Kibria remained her mentors in Bangladesh.
The exhibition was jointly organized by the Bengal Foundation of Bangladesh and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The exhibition was planned to celebrate 50 years of India-Bangladesh diplomatic relations as well as Bangladesh ‘Mujibborsho’. ICCR had announced various cultural activities in India and Bangladesh.
Senior BJP MP and ICCR president, Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe however did not disclose any reason for the postponement of the exhibition at the eleventh hour. He said that a new date will be announced later on.
But in the wake of killings of innocent Hindus, destruction of temples and brazen suppression of religious freedom Hindu minorities in Bangladesh by Islamic fundamentalists during Durga Puja the authorities in India probably thought such exhibitions and cultural exchange may trigger controversies.
This exhibition was to be followed by shows in Kolkata and other cities. It was to be showcased at Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Kolkata, from December 11 to January 2, followed by Bengal Shilpalay in Dhaka from January 21 to March 9.
Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director General, Bengal Foundation said that such things happen sometimes and they are “waiting for a new date and are absolutely looking forward to this exhibition.”

A day after multiple teams of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided the Bandra residence of Shah Rukh Khan and Khar West residence of actor Ananya Panday in the Mumbai cruise drugs bust case, WhatsApp chats between Panday and Aryan Khan have revealed discussions about procurement of cannabis (ganja), reports say.
Citing sources in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), TV9 Bharatvarsh reported that Aryan Khan had asked actress Ananya Panday to arrange for ‘ganja.’ “Did you arrange for the ganja,” he had reportedly asked. In response, Ananya Panday assured Khan that she would do the necessary arrangements. TV9 Bharatvarsh reported that the actress had later claimed that she was joking and her chats were not intended to mean anything serious.
India Today had reported that the duo had discussed about the procurement of ganja on three different occasions between 2018-2019. Citing NCW sources, it added that the supply was exclusively for Aryan Khan on two occasions and for a common get-together on one occasion. As per the report, Aryan Khan had shared the phone numbers of drug peddlers with Ananya Panday.
The Narcotics Control Bureau will recover data from phones, laptops retrieved from the actress’ house yesterday. The NCB had summoned Panday to their office today (October 22) in connection to the contentious Whatsapp chats. The actress will be quizzed about her chats, drug consumption and supply. However, The New Indian tweeted that no such chats were recovered by the NCB officials.

NCB conducts raids at the residences of Shah Rukh Khan and Ananya Panday
The raid in Shah Rukh Khan and Ananya Panday’s houses came after NCB teams on Thursday carried out raids in the Andheri area of Mumbai, acting on a lead from one of the accused in the drugs case. NCB team reached the residence of Shah Rukh Khan hours after he visited his son Aryan Khan at the Arthur Road jail on Thursday. An NCB official, who was part of the team that went to SRK’s residence, said that they went there to give a formal notice saying if Aryan Khan had any other electronic devices, they must be handed over to the NCB for investigation.
A Delhi court has rejected the bail plea of Sharjeel Imam in a case related to inflammatory speeches delivered by the accused during the protests in the capital city against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Delhi’s Saket Court has dismissed JNU student Sharjeel Imam’s bail plea, in a case related to alleged inflammatory and instigating speeches during the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Additional Sessions Judge Anuj Agarwal on October 22 observed, “A cursory and plain reading of the speech dated December 13, 2019, revealed that the same is on communal and divisive lines.”
Court: Therefore, in facts and circumstances of present case and considering the contents of speech dated 13.12.2019 which tend to have a debilitating effect on the communal peace and harmony, I am not inclined to grant bail to applicant/accused #SharjeelImam at this stage.

Sharjeel Imam was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and had sought bail from a local court in July.
‘Wanted to cut-off Assam’
Sharjeel Imam, who has been a columnist with Leftist propaganda website The Wire, The Quint and even FirstPost, was accused of giving incendiary speeches to provoke and instigate riots.
He was heard instigating people to organise a blockade and cut off North-Eastern states from the rest of India to force the government to concede to their demands. He was arrested by Delhi Police on 28th January, 2020 from Bihar.
A brazen case of religious conversion has been reported from Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal. Employees of a charitable trust who were sacked from their jobs have filed a complaint at the Chola Mandir police station alleging that they were forced to proselytise and distribute copies of the Bible to bring non-believers under the fold of Christianity.
According to an investigation conducted by Dainik Bhaskar, the employees of CFI Charitable Trust were fired because they refused to partake in the company’s conversion activities. Reportedly, their refusal to distribute Bibles to people was found as grounds for their dismissal from the job. Allegedly, the trust has fired 22 employees so far for refusing to be involved in proselytisation activities.
Additionally, the trust has filed a counter-complaint against one Rajesh Khanna for his indecent behaviour with them.
Dr Preeti Nair, in-charge of MCI under CFI, which describes itself as a charitable trust, flatly denied the allegations levelled against the organisation. Meanwhile, the police remain tight-lipped on the incident and insisted that they would comment on the matter after a thorough investigation is completed.
The fired employees, all of whom were women, spoke on the condition of anonymity to Dainik Bhaskar. They had been in the employment of the trust for the last 2-3 years, during which time they were put into the service of pregnant women. They revealed that their organisation pestered them into distributing Bible. Their refusal to humour organisation’s demand was met with disapproval and misbehaviour from the staff, ultimately leading to their dismissal, the women asserted.
As per the report, all the employees were called on Wednesday to attend a meeting chaired by Dr Preeti. During this meeting, the women claim, they were fired from the job. There was an altercation between Dr Preeti and the women over their dismissal. A video of the verbal spat has gone viral in which the two sides had reportedly levelled allegations against each other. Feva Thomas, a health consultant in the institution, dared the sacked women to prove her organisation indulged in proselytising activities.
CFI employee says trust indulgew in propagating Christianity and distributing Bibles
Rajesh Khanna, an employee of the charitable trust CFI for the last 5 years, made a candid confession while talking to Bhaskar. He admitted that the trust is putting pressure on its employees to propagate Christianity and distribute Bibles to its clientele. The female social workers working under him were also asked to distribute the Bible. When they refused, the trust fired them.
Khanna said that on Wednesday afternoon, the head of the institution Dr Preeti Nair, along with Health consultant Feva had called the disgruntled women for talks. They had asked Rajesh to remain outside the office while the women went inside to have a discussion with the duo. Hearing heated argument from inside, Khanna barged into the meeting room. He said Dr Preeti and Feva then started accusing the women and Khanna of misbehaving with them.
Although a written complaint has been made to the Chola Mandir police, the police have till now not registered a case in the matter, claims Khanna. On Thursday, he also resigned from his job.
CFI head denies allegations of religious conversions
CFI is a charitable trust that undertakes social work like education, working for women and children. The organization is said to be about 20 years old. Its chief doctor is Saji Thomas. The head office is located at Shankar Garden, Ayodhya Bypass, Bhopal.
Dr Preeti, the head of the trust, rejected the allegations of religious conversion levelled against her organisation. She said she is at her wits’ end to understand why the employees were accusing them of undertaking conversion activities. Dr Preeti said none of the women being talked about were fired by the trust. Instead, she said the trust had no direct contact with the women and their point of contact was Rajesh.
‘We asked them to update their data so that we could get in touch with them’, Dr Preeti said. For this reason, they had asked them to attend a meeting on Wednesday. But the meeting went awry, Dr Preeti said, alleging that wrong allegations were made against them. “We neither asked them to distribute copies of the Bible. The allegation that we asked them to convert people is also wrong. We have also complained against Rajesh for indecent behavior in the police station,” Dr Preeti said.
In the last 7 days, a number of shocking, numbing incidents have happened in India. On Friday, October 15, a group of Sikh Nihangs brutally killed a man and hanged his body, along with his chopped limb, to boast about their actions.
There was more to the act than the lifeless body of poor Lakhbir Singh hanging alongside his chopped off hand. The body was hanged on the metal barricade placed by the police at the Singhu border, a clear message of what the Nihangs think of ‘rule of law’.
Within hours, a number of videos surfaced on social media. Each one was more viscious, more spine chilling than the other. The Nihangs had not just killed Lakhbir, it was much more than that. Lakhbir, a poor, Dalit Sikh, who was a daily labourer and an addict as per some reports, was accused of ‘blasphemy’.
The armed, colourfully dressed Nihangs had first attacked Lakhbir, cut his leg, chopped off his hand and gave celebratory speeches of their valour and boasted about how they are proud of their act. They had hanged a profusely bleeding, delirious Lakhbhir upside down and had interrogated him for god knows how long. They then dragged him, continuing with their boastful charade, and had tied him up at the metal barricade.
Videos of a semi-conscious Lakhbir babbling something incoherent, pleading with eyes enlarged with shock and terror, holding the bleeding stump of his hand are still doing rounds on social media. In a just world, the videos would have triggered an army of media persons, filled headlines all over the country and ruled news space for weeks to come. But sadly, Lakhbir was the ‘wrong’ kind of victim from the ‘wrong’ kind of state. He was not Muslim like Tabrej Ansari, not a resident of a BJP-ruled state, and not the son of a Bollywood celebrity.
Even though he was a Dalit, his murder could not be used to sling mud on Yogi or Modi, unlike Hathras case, so Lakhbir does not get op-eds in Washington Post or NYT. Lakhbir’s family does not get politicians flocking to their house, Lakhbir lays forgotten, buried under the garbage of ‘thank a farmer’ hashtags, and millions of words of the so-called Sikh pride, farmer politics and much more.
Most of India’s self-proclaimed ‘secular-liberal’ intelligentsia washed their hands off Lakhbir with barely a vague condemnation, if not total ignorance.
Osmanabad violence
Last week, on October 19, an unruly mob of around 150 people in Maharashtra’s Osmanabad took to the streets to protest against a social media post that allegedly criticised Mughal bigot Aurangzeb.
Four policemen including one Inspector sustained injuries when trying to control the violent mob. “The mob vandalized a hoarding, a police vehicle and an auto-rickshaw in Vijay Chowk area. Four policemen, including an officer, were injured while they were trying to stop the mob,” confirmed Osmanabad city police station’s inspector Suresh Budhwant to PTI.
The grievance of the mob was somebody had shared a Facebook post that was allegedly ‘offensive’ against Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. A Facebook comment against Aurangzeb was all it took for a mob of over 150 to wreak havoc in a city and start pelting stones. Is it a new phenomenon? No, though Aurangzeb is the new factor here, mobs getting violent over a mere Facebook post “ho chuka hai.”
In August 2020, in India’s tech capital Bengaluru, a Facebook reply by a Congress MLA’s relative triggered a Muslim mob so much that they attacked two police stations, burned the premises, torched dozens of vehicles and tried to burn the house of the MLA while his family was inside.
In our neighbourhood, the majority of Muslims had attacked Durga Puja pandals of minority Hindus, attacked their temples and caused rampant arson, vandalism, even rapes and murders, because someone had placed a copy of the Quran at a Pandal and had made a Facebook post. That someone has now been identified as Iqbal Hossain, who had deliberately triggered the violence against the minority Hindus.
The above incidents are just examples. We live in an environment where all it takes is a Facebook post, a vague blame of ‘beadbi’ (disrespect), or a ‘he said she said’ allegation made to settle scores for religiously fanatic mobs to resort to rampant vandalism, arson and even killing.
The biggest irony is, the above mobs are not named and shamed by the ‘liberal-secular’ intelligentsia of this country. Stone pelting men and women are called heroes protesting against oppression, vandals damaging telecom towers are ‘farmers’, political goons squatting on public roads are called ‘brave protestors’ when they belong to a certain religious and political group.
For Hindus, because it is mostly Hindus who had voted for the BJP, all it takes is a mild social media comment to be branded an extremist, a terrorist, or member of an ‘online mob’.
Rana Ayyub has declared India a ‘fascist state’ because Shahrukh Khan’s son was arrested for drugs and Shah Rukh Khan is a Muslim. Aryan Khan was arrested with a dozen others, none of them has got bail, but they do not matter. Just because Shah Rukh Khan is a Muslim, his son should never be arrested, this is the ‘Liberal’ logic.

Not just Rana, a whole lot of so-called ‘journalists’ are going berserk over Aryan Khan’s arrest. As per their logic, as Shah Rukh Khan is (?) a superstar and is a Muslim, his son cannot be arrested.
The fact that courts have found the arrest legal, and allowed for custody does not matter. The fact that it is an ongoing investigation and a dozen others are also under investigation does not matter either. Just because he is Muslim and SRK’s son, he should not have been arrested, this is what they claim.
Hindus tweeting about FabIndia is ‘extremism’
While the Nihangs were casually chopping off people for alleged ‘blasphemy’, Muslims were pelting stones for disrespectful posts against Aurangzeb and in Bangladesh, Muslims were attacking and vandalising Hindu places of worship over a Facebook rumour, Hindus in India committed a major crime.
The fascists Hindus, blinded by their devotion to RSS and emboldened by the fascist Modi regime, unleashed brutal terror, on the internet, as per our ‘Liberals’. The Hindu terrorists were so blinded by hatred that they launched an online campaign against Urdu, the favourite language of Bollywood. Reading some tweets, you would think Hindu fanatics in India are out with swords and stones, pelting, cutting, wreaking havoc across cities. But no, the Hindus were tweeting.
A FabIndia ad that tried to call Diwali festivities as ‘Jash-e-Riwaaz’ had depicted morose, anorexic models sitting gloomily clad in Indian clothes, looking as if they are mourning. Hindus objected to it, pointing out that it is ‘Diwali’, not Jashn-e-Riwaz, and Diwali is about joy, food, frolic, brilliant rangolis, traditional clothes, happy faces, loud celebrations and lots of laughter, all of which was missing from the ad. Thus Hindus were branded, hateful bigots.
Since Hindus disliked the FabIndia ad, and some said they would not want to buy from a brand that doesn’t represent their culture well, they were indulging in acts of terrorism, as per ‘liberal’ journalists.

Rana Ayyub peddled her article again with the example of the FabIndia controversy, asserting again that Hindus are hateful and fascist because they dislike FabIndia ad and tweet about it.

It is notable here that for these so-called ‘liberals’, disliking an ad, tweeting about it, and announcing that they are not going to buy products from a particular brand is equal to ‘terrorism’, because it is done by Hindus.
These people live in the same country where lakhs of Islamists had marched calling for the public beheading of Kamlesh Tiwari, where Islamist mobs ran riots at Azad Maidan in Mumbai over Rohingya issue, where Islamists kill, behead, burn and loot over things as superficial and insignificant as Facebook posts.
They live in the same country where Nihangs chopped off a man into pieces while he was alive, and shot videos to boast about it. But Hindus are ‘terrorists’ because they tweeted about their dislike for brands misrepresenting Hindu festivals and giving them non-Hindu names.
This is the reality. A Hindu is painted as dangerous for merely sharing his/her opinion, expressing dislike for certain things in benign social media hashtags, while our elite ‘liberals’ ignore rampant violence and riots by real extremists.
A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court challenging the appointment of only Hindus to teaching as well as non-teaching posts at educational institutions run by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE).
The HRCE is charged with the responsibility of the management and administration of Hindu Temples. As such, their primary source of revenue are the donations that are made to the Temple and other assets related to the management of Temples.
The petition is filed by one A. Suhail, a 37-year-old Indian Muslim candidate and an aspirant to the post of office assistant at the Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Arts and Science College at Kolathur in Chennai.
The petitioner has contended in his plea that “in the name of the word Hindu, the respondents cannot prohibit the other religious people from contesting.”
Suhail asserted that because of the norm that allows only Hindus to apply for the job, he could not participate in a walk-in-interview for the post of Office Assistant at the abovesaid college that was held on October 18, 2021. In his petition, Suhail argued that teaching and non-teaching posts had nothing to do with religious functions; everyone should be allowed to compete for them, irrespective of their religion.
Citing Article 16 of the Constitution, the petitioner said that the State cannot discriminate on the grounds of religion with respect to opportunities in public employment, adding that Article 16(5) permits the appointment of people professing faith in a particular religion only to offices connected to the affairs of a religious institution.
“Hence the condition imposed by the 3rd respondent that only the Hindus are eligible to be appointed to the above post is unconstitutional,” the plea said.
The litigant said the reason behind appointing only Hindus to the posts in educational institutes run by HRCE is because the present government is criticised as anti-Hindu and in order to avoid such criticism, the respondents have decided to grant posts to Hindus only so that they can spread Hindutva ideology.
‘Hindu’ is just a way of life so Muslims and Christians should not be stopped from getting Hindu-only jobs: Petitioner
In order to add ballast to contention, the petitioner cited the remarks made by the Supreme Court on what constitutes being a Hindu. He said the top court had said the word ‘Hindu’ does not denote any religion but a way of life. Pointing out this line of argument by the apex court, the litigant questioned on what basis the respondent authorities can decide the candidate as a Hindu.
Therefore, Suhail states that the HR & CE Department cannot prevent Indian Muslims or Christians or any others from applying and getting selected for various posts at the said college.
He also states that religious institution as defined in section 6(18) of the HR& CE Act means only Math or Temples or specific endowment which include institutions maintained for a religious purpose.
Mr Suhail asked the court to quash the recruitment notification issued by the Kolathur college on October 13 calling only Hindu candidates to appear for a walk-in interview for the posts of assistant professor, physical director, librarian, assistant, junior assistant, office assistant, watchman, cleaner and sweeper on October 18.
The petitioner further alleged that he could not approach the court before the conduct of the interview since the court was closed for Dussehra vacation. He was resolute on his stand to get the notification quashed and demanded that he be allowed to compete for the post of office assistant.
