Five Big Bang decisions of Modi Govt in 2019, how it laid the foundation for New India and marked The Dawn of a New Age

The year 2019 will go down as the year in which India was changed forever. The Central Government over the course of one year has taken a series of decisions that have altered the fundamental nature of the Indian State for the foreseeable future. In this article, we review the decisions of the Central Government that have made 2019 one of the most, if not the most, consequential year in the history of Independent India.

1. The Balakot Airstrikes

The Balakot Airstrikes raised the costs of Pakistan’s ‘Bleed India with a thousand cuts’ strategy by several folds. For decades, it has been the preferred strategy of Pakistan. Numerous terrorist attacks have happened since the dawn of this century which went unanswered by the Indian government. However, when Narendra Modi assumed power in 2014, there was enough indication that things were about to change.

Following the Surgical Strikes of 2016, it was almost taken for granted that Pakistan will have to pay for the Pulwama Terror Attack. No one really doubted that Pakistan will be made to pay, the only question was when and how. And the Balakot Airstrikes answered that question perfectly.

The most significant aspect of it was the fact that India had definitively called out Pakistan’s nuclear bluff. In a nightmare scenario for Pakistan, India’s nuclear-capable aircraft carried out the airstrikes at Balakot, which is less than 200 km via road from Islamabad and less than 70 km from Abbottabad.

Amidst everything that happened, two quotes by Narendra Modi about the entire series of events sum up how India’s response to Pakistan had changed fundamentally. The Prime Minister said, quite famously, “Ghar me ghuske maarengey” and on another occasion, he said while referring to Pakistan’s penchant for threatening India with nuclear war, “Don’t we have nuclear weapons also? Humney Diwali ke liye rakha hai kya?” It proved conclusively that the relationship with Pakistan will never be the same again.

2. The anti-Triple Talaq Act

Given everything else that has happened in one year, it is one of those things that doesn’t receive sufficient attention. But the passage of the Bill was the first sign of the things that were in store for the country. It was for the first time in a great many years, since the opening of the locks of the Babri probably, that the fundamentalist sections of the Muslim community were overruled by the democratic institutions of the country without any manner of negotiations whatsoever.

The Secular Parties were entirely opposed to it, and crucially, the Bill safely passed through the Rajya Sabha despite great opposition. It was the first indication that the second term of the Modi government will be radically different from its first term. Even so, the value of the passage of this Bill was more symbolic than any real benefit for national interests. The biggest indication of it was that the BJP had a working majority in the Rajya Sabha for more crucial bills.

3. The Abrogation of Article 370

The abrogation of Article 370 was the first core agenda that was fulfilled by the Modi government within three months of Amit Shah’s reign as the Home Minister of the country. It was a testament to the rising stature of India in global politics that despite Pakistan’s continuous wailing and screaming, absolutely no one apart from the usual suspects paid them any attention. The world by and large was in India’s favour.

Domestically, the Indian Government demonstrated that it was willing to do everything necessary in order to secure national interests. There was considerable opposition from the Congress party and its ilk but once again, the BJP found the necessary numbers to ensure the passage of the required bills through both houses of the Parliament. The conduct of the Opposition parties revealed abundantly that it won’t support the BJP even when the saffron party was acting in the national interest.

Regardless, the Indian government took several hard steps to preemptively weaken the chances of riots by putting several local leaders under house arrest or preventive detention. As a consequence, despite a few hiccups, things went much better than expected and Kashmir has been gradually returning to normalcy.

4. The Ram Mandir Verdict

It’s a fact that the verdict was delivered by the Supreme Court but it’s also a fact that the government handled the situation remarkably well. It is for a reason that the verdict wasn’t delivered conclusively in favour of the Hindus despite the overwhelming evidence in all these years. It is only when a Hindutva government was elected with a thumping majority in two consecutive elections that the Judiciary received the confidence required to deliver a fair verdict.

It was another of the core issues in the BJP manifesto that was fulfilled during 2019 and really set the mood for bigger and better things. It was the end of a historic battle that has been waged for centuries and it came to an end during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister. Although the verdict was delivered by the Supreme Court, the manner in which the government handled security matters post-verdict is worthy of commendation in its own right.

5. The Citizenship Amendment Act

The entire series of events, right from the tabling of the Bill to the passage of it and the events that followed, the CAA brought out into the open the fundamental contradictions that have plagued the Republic of India for all these years. Rationally speaking, there was nothing remotely radical about the law. The CAA was the fulfilment of sacred vows that were sworn when the state of India came into existence.

Jawaharlal Nehru knew it, Rajendra Prasad knew it, even Gandhi knew it. But it is testament to the spectacular mismanagement of the country by the Congress party that we have produced a generation of uncouth youth who are completely unaware of the oaths that were sworn when India was partitioned. The Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists could come to India from the newly created Islamic State anytime they chose, they were told, and yet when decades later, the Indian government decided to honour its promise by granting them citizenship, the entire intellectual elite of this country had chosen to side with Islamic Extremists rather than the persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The government’s defence during the entire matter revealed that the BJP is firmly committed to the ideals of Hindutva. Home Minister Amit Shah again demonstrated his great ideological clarity and made it clear through his words that in his view and by extension, in the view of the Prime Minister, India is the natural homeland for Hindus across the world. That is the most fundamental ideological shift the country has witnessed since its inception.

Foundations for a New India

There is an age-old saying, a whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In addition to these five big decisions, the government took numerous other conspicuous decisions that made it clear that India had changed forever. All of these decisions ought to be viewed in their entirety as a Gestalt. These are not policy decisions but the decisions that were made in the manner in which the government and the ruling dispensation decided to conduct itself.

1. The Media Ignored

For instance, the manner in which the Government completely ignored the blackmail tactics of the mainstream media and the liberal establishment and remained steadfast in its path towards achieving their objective. The ruling dispensation did not give in to the bullying tactics of the liberal establishment, from both India and abroad, and went about doing what it set out to do without caring two hoots about those who did not care much about democracy but only ensuring that liberal policies are implemented regardless of who is in power. These tactics were put to rest. The current ruling dispensation does not care about what the liberal establishment has to say about them. The party of Hindutva was elected by Indians, a Hindutvavadi government is what Indians will receive.

2. The Street Veto Bluff

Secondly, and more importantly, the bluff of Islamic Extremists was called by the Modi government in the wake of the anti-CAA protests. The media was touting it to be a students’ revolution when, in reality, it was the Khilafat 2.0. Needless to say, the uprising was crushed by the government without mercy. Time and again, Islamic Extremists have attempted to hold the Indian government hostage by the often unsaid threat of violence. After the passage of the CAA and the NRC looming around the corner, vested interests attempted to grind India to a halt and bully the government into taking back the CAA-NRC juggernaut. The government did not budge.

Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka were hit by mob violence for the longest period. In West Bengal, the violence was great but it fizzled out when they rampaging mobs were made to realize that it was only benefitting the BJP. In the two states and the national capital, the Police are under the control of BJP governments at the states and centre and the Police did what was necessary to quell the violence.

Yogi Adityanath, apart from the Home Minister, was one person who shined through the chaos. By the time the anti-CAA protests fizzled out, Islamic preachers were begging the administration for forgiveness and were voluntarily paying for the damage to public property, in addition to the notices that have already been served by UP Police. This was a great climb down from the “Ladke lengey Azadi” slogans and the chants of “Chheen ke lengey Azadi” that were raised during the protests.

3. New Equations with the West

The most significant, perhaps, is the manner in which the Indian government has stopped giving a damn about how the Western world perceives us. The clearest example of it was when MEA Jaishankar, in a manner that typifies the nonchalant arrogance that has become the hallmark of his interactions with the press, said casually that he had no intentions of meeting a US Congresswoman after saying that she had gotten basically everything wrong about what the Indian government was doing in Kashmir.

Read: No interest in meeting her: MEA S Jaishankar cancels meeting with US politicians over inclusion of anti-India Congresswoman

MEA Jaishankar has emphasized during his interactions with international institutions that the West needs to come to a new understanding with India. He has reiterated that the current ruling dispensations sees the world differently than previous governments and relates to it differently than them. He has also emphasized that the West and India, both, need each other and therefore, there was a need to develop a new understanding between the two.

A New Dawn

The Five Big Bang decisions of the Modi government combined with the manner it has conducted itself has set the tone for the coming decade. In many ways, the next decade could prove to be the most pivotal decade in the history of Independent India for generations to come. But when history books are written in the future, they will say that it was in 2019 that India was changed was forever.

The government was asked many difficult questions during the course of the year. But it took all of these questions and challenges head-on and came out with flying colours. The Opposition asked, “How far are you willing to go to implement your policy objectives?” “To hell and back,” the government replied calmly. “What are the sacrifices you are prepared to make for the sake of your Hindutva ideology?” “Whatever it takes.”

And as we stand on the verge of a New Year and with that, a new decade, 2019 truly has been the Dawn of a New Age.

Facebook blocks Radio Pakistan for spreading fake news on Kashmir and violating community standards on dangerous individuals and organisation

Social networking giant Facebook has blocked live streaming of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC)’s Radio Pakistan over violation of community guidelines and spreading fake news on Kashmir. As per Facebook, it violated Community Standards on dangerous individuals and organisation.

As per Republic, Radio Pakistan was live-streaming fake news on ‘atrocities, curfew and military lockdown in Kashmir’ when Facebook realised that it was spreading fake news. Facebook then stopped the live streaming and blocked it. Facebook has not only blocked today’s live streaming but also removed several posts of Radio Pakistan which hailed terrorists like Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa and called them ‘martyrs’.

After Marxist Irfan Habib heckled Arif Mohammad Khan, Aligarh Society plays victim, claims ‘democratic dissent’ being stifled

At the 80th session of Indian History Congress, the Marxist Historian Irfan Habib had shamefully tried to heckle the Kerala governor, Arif Mohammad Khan and disrupt his speech. The left-leaning historian had tried to physically disrupt the speech of the governor, even as people in the audience shouted slogans against the governor. Now, the Aligarh Society of History and Archaeology (ASHA) has issued a statement in support of the Leftist Historian and playing the victim by claiming that his ‘right to democratic dissent’ was stifled.

The statement issued by the Aligarh Society claims that “soon after the Presidential Address delivered by Professor Amiya Kumar Bagchi (Kolkata), Mr Arif Muhammad Khan was called to deliver his speech. Instead of delivering an address the Honourable Governor started not only defending the CAA but also accusing all those who did not agree with CAA as “Pakistani” agents who never had the courage to criticise the wrong policies of the Gandhi family, specially Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Along with all those who opposed CAA as ani-nationals, he went along to suggest that this could not be understood by the people of Kerala who never experienced the partition of India and creation of Pakistan”.

At this point of time, there is no video of the Kerala governor calling anyone a Pakistani agent. According to tweets posted by the official Twitter account of the Kerala governor, Irfan Habib had made some points on the CAA. After that, the governor tried to address those points during his address, but at that time Habib rose from his seat and tried to physically stop the governor from speaking.

The note says that while Governor Arif Mohammad Khan was delivering his speech, 2 research ‘students’ of JNU stood up with placards that read ‘No to CAA’ Along with them a few senior professors from CAS Department of History AMU and Delhi University stood up asking the Governor to “refrain from what he was doing”. The statement further claims, “Soon a host of researchers from JNU, AMU, DU and Jamia were detained. Fortunately, they were all released within an hour. An attempt was also made to detain a senior professor from Aligarh”.

It then claims that Professor Irfan Habib, who was there on the dais in the capacity of the outgoing member of the IHC (Indian History Congress), got up to ask VC Kannur University, Professor Gopinath Ravindran to “stop what was happening”. It was at this time that ASHA claims that Habib was manhandled by the Kerala governor’s security detail.

The statement issued by ASHA further played the victim and said that they condemn the “stifling of democratic dissent” and “laud Professor Irfan Habib, Padma Bhushan and Professor Emeritus (AMU) for raising his voice against the rising intolerance to democratic norms”. The statement also said that Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan was claiming an attack on him instead of apologising the Irfan Habib. “The members of Aligarh Society of History and Archaeology [ASHA] also condemn the stifling the democratic voices and our right to protest. We further condemn the way the Constitution of India is being effectively dismantled through Acts like CAA”, the statement said.

Interestingly, the statement makes no mention of the fact that Leftist Historian Irfan Habib had indulged in downright shameful conduct by objected to Arif Mohammad Khan quoting Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He had said that the governor should quote Nathuram Godse instead. To this, the governor had replied, “is Maulana Azad your personal property? He is ours.” The historian even pushed the governor’s ADC and security officer, who had tried to prevent him from reaching Khan.

Further, it is difficult to fathom how ASHA has failed to realise that the Governor is bound to have a security detail and Irfan Habib breaching that security will be dealt with appropriately.

This vilification of Arif Mohammad Khan, however, comes as no surprise. KK Muhammad, the Archeologist who was vilified and attacked by Leftists and Islamists for his findings in the Ram Mandir case had written in his autobiography that anyone who did not agree with Irfan Habib was automatically branded as a Hindutvavadi. In the book, Muhammad details how he was hounded by Irfan Habib because he was not ‘secular enough’.

According to Swarajya, in the forward to his book, Prof. M G S Narayanan too writes about Prof. Habib. According to Prof. MGS, Prof. Habib has poisoned not just history but culture and social life by his narrow groupism, nepotism and treachery. At the same time, he writes that Prof. Habib is a hard-working person but crafty. His group would threaten, cheat and would be part of various intrigues. Anyone who criticised this group would be branded a Hindutvawadi and a communalist. That the Left cabal has now trained its guns against Kerala governor Arif Muhammad Khan now comes as no surprise.

Jharkhand: Chief Minister Hemant Soren withdraws sedition cases against Pathalgadi armed separatists

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has decided to withdraw sedition cases registered against the supporters of Pathalgadi movement, an armed struggle which dismissed the authority of state and central government and considered only the gram sabha as the real constitutional body. Cases will also be withdrawn against those who had opposed the proposed amendments in Chhota Nagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act and Santhal Pargana Tenancy (SPT) Act.

Cabinet Secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh reportedly informed that the cases related to Pathalgadi as well as opposition to tenancy laws will be dropped and the FIRs which were lodged in various police stations will be withdrawn.

Since 2017, in nearly 200 villages in Jharkhand’s four districts: Khunti, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbum, huge stone plaques known as ‘pathalgadi’ in local language, were put up at the entry points. These stone structures, painted green, warned ‘outsiders’, especially government officials, and prohibited them from entering the villages. Essentially, they had announced that the law of the land does not apply there.

After the BJP-led government came to power in Jharkhand in 2014, Chief Minister Raghubar Das tried to amend the land tenancy laws. Tribal groups and opposition parties opposed the move. In My 2017, Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu returned the bills for reconsideration and few months later in August they were withdrawn. Tribal groups believed that the new laws will undermine the rights of tribal people on forest resources and land.

A total of 19 cases of sedition were registered against over 150 people which will now stand withdrawn.

France: 19-year-old abused by Church priest charged for ramming a crucifix down the pedophile’s throat and murdering him

0

A 19-year-old teen, identified in the French media as Alexandre V. has been charged with jamming a crucifix down the throat of and murdering a pedophile Church priest after he had heaped sexual abuse on him. It is being reported that the accused and his father, both were sexually abused by Father Roger Matassoli before Alexandre jammed a crucifix down the priest’s throat and murdered him.

“We now know that [the suspect’s] father was a victim of the priest. “We also know that this papa tried to protect his children and then, after the divorce, he fell back into the clutches of Matassoli. Alexandre mentioned facts that were likely to disturb him deeply. There was talk of Alexandre cleaning the house naked for the priest”, the suspect’s lawyer reportedly told Franceinfo.

Reportedly, Alexandre has been arrested and remanded in custody on charges of aggravated murder, acts of torture and for resisting arrest. According to Franceinfo, the teen has said that he has no recollection of committing the murder.

The 90-year-old Christian priest was found tortured and murdered in his home on the 7th of November 2019. When the priest was found, there were signs of torture to the body like blows to the head, abdomen and face. In 2009, the Priest was removed from his duty after accusations of sexual allegations had surfaced, however, Matassoli stayed on the bishop’s payroll until 2018.

The priest was the subject of a church investigation shortly before his death. The inquiry was dropped after he died, with no report ever being sent to Rome, according to Franceinfo. The outlet also noted that three people had contacted the local bishop’s office with information regarding abuse by the priest since July 2018.

According to a local paper, thelocal.fr, the public prosecutor’s office reported two complaints in 2018 “concerning sexual assaults committed on two young boys when, aged 10 to 14, they were altar boys in Father Matassoli’s parish”. The case had not moved forward because under French law the complaints were time-barred, since they were committed in 1962 for one of the victims, and between 1976 and 1980 for the other.

After the murder of the priest, a local woman spoke up against the horror that the Christian priest had unleashed on her brothers.

“Some people say that he was transferred [in 1967] to Saint-André because he touched children in his other parish in Clermont”. She recounting that both of her brothers were abused by the priest. She discovered the abuse when her younger brother, Paul, told her he had showered with the priest.

When she approached her older brother, Jacques, about the incident, he “dissolved into tears,” describing eight years of abuse that included the priest molesting her brother as he sat at the family’s dinner table, among other horrors, reported FranceInfo.

The epidemic of sexual abuse of young boys by Christian priests is all too familiar. In November, two Catholic priests were sentenced to 40 years in prison in Argentine for abusing deaf children in a Church-run school.

Apart from the global trend, the country has also been rocked by repeated rapes and other abusive incidents at Churches, as recently Franco Mulakkal, a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar, was arrested and released on bail later for allegedly raping a 44-year old nun at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014. Similarly, Father Johnson V Mathew, a priest of Malankara Orthodox church was accused in the rape and sexual abuse of a married woman belonging to the fold was arrested in July 2018.

In February, the Mysuru police had arrested three pastors (religious leaders associated with protestant Churches) for allegedly raping a teenager in Mangaluru. All the three Christian priests have now been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as per reports.

In another incident, a 60-year-old pastor named Chandra Kumar belonging to a local church in Nagaland was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

In another incident, a 33-year old Catholic priest, Father Prakash Damor was arrested in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh for abetting a 17-year-old girl’s suicide.

Recently, a special Mahila Court in Cuddalore had sentenced a church priest to 30 years in prison and nine others to life in prison for their involvement in the horrifying 2014 Tittakudi rape case, which involved two minor girls.

La ilaha illallah: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor attacked by radical Muslims for cautioning against Islamist extremism

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor came under the attack of Muslims on social media for cautioning against religious fundamentalism. The Thiruvananthapuram MP was commenting on shouting of Islamic chant La ilaha illallah during anti-CAA protests.

Today Shashi Tharoor reacted to a video posted on Twitter 2 days ago where anti-CAA protesters were chanting La ilaha illallah, the Islamic Shahada which means “There is no god but God”, where the second God means Allah. The chant is often followed by muḥammadun rasulu llah, which means “Muhammad is the messenger of God”. The religious chant represents the central philosophy of Islam, that Allah is the only god, and there is no other god.

Tharoor said that their “fight against Hindutva extremism should give no comfort to Islamist extremism either”. He said that the fight against the Citizenship Amendment Bill is fight to defend inclusive India. “We will not allow pluralism & diversity to be supplanted by any kind of religious fundamentalism,” he added.

This was objected to by many Muslims, saying that La ilaha illallah is said by Muslims every day, and there is no religious fundamentalism about it. Tharoor was accused of soft bigotry for his comments, and said that it is “their fight”, asking him to stop telling what to do.

After the backlash from Muslim social media users, Tharoor tried to explain that the struggle is for India, not Islam. “It’s about our constitutional values & founding principles. It’s about defending pluralism. It’s about saving the soul of India. Not one faith vs another,” he tweeted.

But Muslims didn’t agree with him, saying that as Muslims are the most affected party and it is their fight, Muslim chants during anti-CAA protests are justified.

While Tharoor tried to emphasis that the anti-CAA protests were for constitutional values, most people opposing the CAA differed with him, asserting that the protests were to protect the rights of Muslims. That’s why Islamic chants proclaiming that the Allah is the only god is justified.

Moreover, Tharoor was not objecting to Muslims saying La ilaha illallah five times a day, he was referring to the specific slogan in the video, which also contained the chant tera mera rishta kya, la ilaha illallah. This basically means a call for Ummah, a Muslim nation. The Ummah was the basis of partition of India, as Muslims wanted a separate nation. La ilaha illallah in general means Allah is the only god, which implies that all other gods of other faiths are not real gods.

Several users, including moderate Muslims, replied to Tharoor that several Hindu slogans are also used in day to day life, like Jai Bajrang Bali, and therefore the Islamic slogan’s use outside prayer is acceptable. But there is a difference, none of other slogans say that other gods are not real gods, they only hail the god they refer to. They don’t claim that god is superior to other gods. In that context, the Islamic chants are not comparable to non-Islamic religious chants.

Tharoor wanted to say that as Chanting La ilaha illallah outside prayer means claiming supremacy of Allah over other gods, and that is not acceptable in a plural, inclusive India. But it was lost on Muslims, and they attacked him accusing of bigotry and asked him to not to interfere in ‘their’ fight.

Jharkhand: Pieces of meat thrown near Shiv temple causes outrage among devotees, road blocked for 6 hours

0

Several pieces of prohibited meat were thrown near a temple on Sunday (December 29, 2019) at Karamdaha on the border of Dhanbad and Jamtara district of Jharkhand to incite religious sentiments of Hindus. This incident happened near Dukhiya Mahadev temple. Police have termed it the handiwork of some mischievous elements. An FIR has been registered against unknown people in this case. Hearing the news of meat in the temple, which was presumed to be beef, the angry locals blocked the road for about 6 hours. After that, the police reached the spot and pacified the anguished crowd.

In this regard, OpIndia spoke to Dainik Jagran’s local journalist Pramod Chaudhary, who said that the area was already sensitive due to the Muslim-majority population. Chaudhary said that there is a long history of Hindu-Muslim tension here. The incident also led to clashes between the local people and the police. When the police assured the immediate arrest of the culprits, the people calmed down. OpIndia also tried to contact SDPO Arvind Upadhyay but could not talk to him.

The incident happened in a deserted area. The said temple is situated on the ghat of the Barakar River. The road from Govindpur to Sahibganj passes through this vicinity, which was blocked by angry people for 6 hours. Jamtara MLA and Congress leader Irfan Ansari, reacting to the incident, said: “The people of Jamtara have elected me with a great majority. I assure that the culprits will not be spared. Those who have lit the fire, they will also go to jail. Those who have thrown a piece of meat in the temple will also be caught and sent to jail. I will not allow dodging and cheating here. The terrorists will soon be under the grip of the police. You can trust me.”

This is the same area where a year ago a person named Minhaj Ansari had circulated photo of Beef on social media. He later died in police custody, after which there was a lot of ruckus. 22-year-old Minhaj circulated a photo of chopped cow on WhastApp along with inflammatory statements. Later, his family members alleged that he was tortured and killed by the police. According to the police, his condition worsened in custody, after which he was admitted to RIMS, where he died later.

Delhi: Muslim Uber driver Naseem asks Pakistani Hindus to get off his cab, flees without taking them to Majnu Ka Tila camp

BJP Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Bagga today took to Twitter to share that one Uber driver Naseem asked Pakistani Hindu refugees living in Majnu Ka Tila camp to get off his car and drove away.

A programme was organised in Delhi’s Connaught Place in solidarity with Citizenship Amendment Act. Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) makes it easier for persecuted religious minorities in three neighbouring Islamic countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who have come to India before 31st December, 2014, to get Indian citizenship. Other immigrants could apply for citizenship following the due procedure. CAA does not affect Indian citizens, Muslims or otherwise, in any which way. Pakistani Hindus, who have been living in the camp at Majnu Ka Tila, had also participated in the same.

The Pakistani Hindus, who will be benefitted under the CAA, needed help in going back to their camp and hence an Uber cab was booked for them. However, when the two men informed the driver that they needed to go to the Pakistani Hindu refugee camp in Majnu Ka Tila, the driver asked them to get off the car and without any explanation, drove away.

OpIndia has reached out to Uber for a statement. At the time of this report, Uber has not yet responded to the above allegations. We shall update the report when we hear back from Uber.

Sexist protest by Congress: Youth Wing attempts to burn Yogi Adityanath’s effigies clad in Saree and bangles, detained by Police

The Youth Congress has been protesting against the Uttar Pradesh government over the alleged manhandling of senior party leader Priyanka Gandhi. However, as it turned out, it was actually Priyanka Gandhi’s goons who heckled the female police officers, who were simply doing their jobs.

On Sunday, again, the Youth Congress staged a protest where they crossed all boundaries of decency and civility. They brought effigies of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath clad in bangles and sarees in order to symbolize a weak state government during their protest in front of the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in Mumbai, Republic TV reported. They had attempted to set the effigies on fire but were prevented from doing so by the Police. The protesters were detained immediately and taken to the nearby police station.

The Congress party’s conduct during the anti-CAA protests has been extremely unfortunate, to put it mildly. The party had demonized Yogi Adityanath for crushing the outbreak of mob violence in the state that had the potential to unleash devastating anarchy in the state. The Congress also demanded his resignation for quelling the violent anti-CAA protests with an iron hand.

We have reported earlier how the Congress party had played a critical role in instigating protests across Universities in the country while maintaining the pretense that these were ‘spontaneous’ protests that had nothing to do with politics. It appears the Congress party has not yet given up on its desire to burn the state in order to gain political mileage out of it.
