By prohibiting public feeding and re-release of dangerous dogs, imposing penalties on activists, and expanding scrutiny nationwide, the Supreme Court’s latest order marks a turning point in India’s stray dog menace litigation and OpIndia’s first victory.
The Supreme Court mandated immediate action to remove stray dogs from Delhi-NCR, banning rerelease, enforcing humane sheltering, and prioritising vaccination and victim care, while warning of contempt against individuals or groups obstructing the court’s directions.
With over 400 petrol pumps equipped to deny fuel and seize vehicles, lakhs of Delhi-NCR residents owning banned cars now face two options—scrap their vehicles for incentives or sell them in permitted states.
