On Monday (8th September), Hindu organisations staged a protest against the stone pelting incident. The police, however, resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesting Hindus, including women, and even arrested some of them.
Mohammad Zaid, Mohammad Irfan, Shahbaz Alam, Zaid Khan, Mohammad Hussain, Aqib Ali, Mohammad Salman, Mohammad Ashraf, Sabir Ali, Ghulam Bakhtiar, Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Majid, Qasim Ali, Mahfooz Raza, Zaid Ansari, and Qutubuddin have been arrested.
As the Ganpati immersion procession arrived at the Chamarajapete circle, the Hindus raised Jai Shri Ram slogans. This somehow infuriated the Muslims who started raising Islamic slogans and a verbal clash ensued. Soon after, stones were hurled at the Hindu procession.
Additional Commissioner of Police Dnyaneshwar Chavan said that the Ganpati immersion procession was passing peacefully when it came under attack near the Hindustani Mosque.
