On Sunday, Pateria the former Madhya Pradesh minister, purportedly made the controversial remarks at a meeting of Mandalam Sector presidents organized by the District Congress Committee at Powai Rest House. 

Following the controversy, Raja Pateria claimed his statement was being interpreted incorrectly and he believes in Gandhi.

India's current two-year term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council will end in December. India is currently presiding over the 15-nation Council.

Gujarat Assembly elections took place in two phases. Voting for the first phase took place on December 1. The second and final phase of voting took place on December 5. The results will be announced on December 8 along with recently concluded Himachal Pradesh elections.

Prime Minister Modi will vote in the Gujarat assembly elections tomorrow at a polling booth in Ranip, Ahmedabad.

Narendra Modi said, "There is a competition in the Congress about who can abuse me more."
