Amid rising cases of temple vandalism, theft of sacred idols, and intimidation of Hindu families, Indo-Fijian organisations have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to press Fiji’s leadership for accountability, protection, and stronger safeguards.
Islamic extremists have resorted to cow slaughter in public, violent agitation in the name of Waqf protests, targeting of Hindu homes and shops, multiple cases of temple vandalism and idol desecration and even co-opting the national 'Hijab movement' to destroy peace and harmony in Tripura.
The locals alleged a conspiracy behind the idol vandalisation. One of the locals said that the idol was vandalised after everyone had left after performing the daily prayer
They pelted stones at both the temple and nearby houses owned by Hindu families. One of the eyewitnesses, whose house was also targeted, said that the attack was recorded on CCTV. They further alleged that petrol bombs and stones were hurled at the temple premises, and police vehicles were destroyed along with private vehicles, including bikes and cars.
Tensions were already high in Tripura after the last week incident where a Muslim mob went beserk over Durga Puja chanda. The situation further deteriorated due to vandalism at the Shiva Temple.
