Kerala: CPM leader arrested for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman

In an extremely inhuman incident, a CPI(M) leader and his friends allegedly dragged a pregnant woman out of her car and kicked her in the stomach, because her car allegedly brushed against theirs. CPI (M) panchayat member Antonio Williams, accompanied by his friends, who were reportedly drunk, were travelling by car on Thursday night when the incident took place.

According to police, after the woman’s car hit the vehicle Antonio Williams and his friends were driving, a scuffle broke out where they dragged the woman out of the car and kicked her stomach. They also tried to attack other motorists who tried to intervene and question their action. The woman and her husband are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Two policemen who reached the spot were also attacked by the trio. More cops were called in to arrest the accused.

The pregnant woman was on her way to the hospital when the incident occurred. The CPI (M) Kollam district said the party will take action against the accused leader.

Police later registered a case under sections 332 (voluntarily hurting a public servant and disrupting his work), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 354 (assault or a criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.
