JK police arrest separatist Yasin Malik following his intention to lead protests in the valley after shutdown call

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday arrested separatist leader separatist leader Yasin Malik from his Srinagar residence, Republic TV has reported. He has since then been lodged into a local police station.

As per the report, this step has been taken to prevent him from leading protests in the valley following a shutdown call by separatist leaders including Malik and Syed Ali Shah Geelani. This shutdown has been called to protest the deaths of supposed civilians and the murder of journalist and Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari.

As per a local report by Greater Kashmir, a police force arrived at the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief in Srinagar’s Maisuma area, to haul him away.

Incidentally, such an arrest isn’t a new development in Malik’s life as he has time and again been detained by the law enforcement authorities in the past.

We had reported in April that he had been arrested after he started marching towards Lal Chowk of Srinagar after a press conference. Following his detention, protests erupted in parts of the J&K capital, with protesters clashing with the police. He was also detained in June of this year.

Prior to this in September 2017, he was arrested after gearing up to protest at the NIA headquarters in Delhi.

Back in 2015 he was arrested and sent to jail on charges of attempted murder after a violent protest he took out resulted in serious injuries to a police official. This illegal protest also saw Malik instigating his associates to disturb normal life.
