Kerala: BJP worker questions CPIM MLA over infrastructure, arrested for ‘insulting woman and creating communal hate’

In a bizarre incident, a BJP worker has been arrested for writing about the dilapidated condition of Pathanamthitta bus stand and calling the attention of the Aranmula CPI (M) MLA, Veena George. S Sooraj, admin of Facebook page ‘BJP Elanthur’ was arrested under provisions for posting a derogatory comment against the MLA.

The post said, “Dear MLA madam it would be helpful if you can address the issue after beauty parlours and Orthodox dinners. Madam, you have government vehicle to travel. Otherwise, there would be enough vehicles of the Church or Muthoot. The voters have no other means, madam.”

Sooraj, who was charged with section 158 IPC (giving provocation with the intention of causing violence), was later released on station bail. On 2nd June ‘BJP Elanthur’ had posted a photograph of water logging in Pathanamthitta bus stand with the above description.

The MLA, Veena George, claimed that she filed a complaint against Sooraj for ‘insulting’ women and attempting to create communal hatred, disregarding the fact that he was merely pointing out the dismal condition of the bus stand. “The Facebook post is meant to create communal hatred and insult me as a woman. I can’t remain silent towards such a post.” Veena said.

Since then, many have criticised Veena George for her complaint against Sooraj and supported the cause of Sooraj, who said he had nothing personal against the legislator and even refused to withdraw the Facebook post.

This is not the first time the ruling CPI(M) leaders have attempted to silence those who question them. The alleged killing of RSS workers by certain CPIM workers had shocked the country.
