Kisan Kumbh: BJP to reach out to farmers across the country ahead of 2019 elections

The party is gearing up to gain the support of farmers through awareness campaigns and meetings across the country.

After losing the assembly elections in various states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to get back the support of the farmers ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections. In order to capitalise the anger of farmers’ against Congress governments in various states, the BJP has planned several Kisan rallies across the country.

According to a report in DNA, the BJP which lost the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh to Congress, now intends to get back the support of farmers by organising various rallies and events to woo farmers across the country ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

As per reports, in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is organising a workshop for farmers in Beniganj. BJP Kisan Morcha workers have reached out to thousands of farmers in the state and added 3200 new members to the group. 12 thousand farmers have reportedly given ‘appreciation letters’ to the state government for its pro-farmer steps.

The Congress had promised a series of SOPs to the farmers during in the recent assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Congress party which went on to secure victory across all the three states is now facing with severe protests in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh for failure to fulfil the promise of loan waivers. The BJP which had lost the amidst huge populist promises of the Congress is now set to capitalise the farmers’ anger against the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Reportedly, the BJP has now decided to bring back the farmers into its fold by organising a two-month event to address farmer issues. BJP Kisan Morcha will organise farmers’ programs throughout the country in January and February. The party will give information regarding various schemes of Narendra Modi government and through the Kisan Kumbh, it has decided to publicise the achievements of the BJP government.

In the month of February, a national convention of the BJP Kisan Morcha has also been planned at Prayagraj. BJP will launch “Mati Tilak Partigya Campaign” at the national convention and this campaign will be run across the country.

Rahul Gandhi led Congress which came to power in various states promising several sops of loan waivers, high MSP to the farmers seems to have started on a very bad note. The politics of false promises of loan-waiver by the Congress party has already taken three lives in Madhya Pradesh.

Addition to this, rumours of another loan-waiver scam has been brewing in the state of Rajasthan as farmers have accused Congress of involving in a huge scam after thousands of fake names appeared in the list of beneficiaries. The Congress governments in both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are also facing severe outrage from the farmers within weeks of their government formation, as both governments in the respective states had created a crisis by mismanaging the supply of urea.

PM Modi had recently stated that the promises of farm loan waiver’ is a lollipop the Congress is using to deceive the farmers and his government is working to empower farmers so they do not need to take loans.

The Congress soon after assuming power in Madhya Pradesh had set in new conditions to waive-off farms loans contrary to its earlier promise of unconditional loan waiver. The Congress-JDS government in Karnataka has also fared badly in waiving off farm loans which have resulted in two deaths, while many farmers have also received repayment notices from the banks.
