On Sunday (2nd February), some Muslim youths reportedly attacked the wedding procession of a Hindu man in the Loni area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district. The attackers identified as Abdul, Tahir, Hasnain, Junaid, Sajid, Usman and his brother Ehsan forcibly entered the Baraat when the Hindu Dalit groom’s family were dancing to the DJ music. As per the victims, the Muslim youths hurled stones at the wedding procession and also snatched the Mangalsutra of some women there. The accused persons have been arrested.
Reports say that the incident unfolded when the daughter of one Nahar Singh, who lives in Prashant Vihar Colony of Loni, was to get married on Sunday. The wedding procession of Mahavir’s son Harsh had come from Kanchan Park Colony. The victims are from the Hindu Dalit community.
It all started after a group of Muslim youths entered the Hindu wedding procession in Loni and began dancing on the DJ where they molested women. When the Baraatis objected to this, the situation took a violent turn as a significant number of Islamists gathered and started pelting stones at Hindus and assaulting them. The accused also allegedly robbed jewellery and cash from the wedding procession members.
Around four people have been reported injured in the violence unleashed by accused Abdul, Tahir, Hasnain, Junaid, Sajid, Usman, Ehsan etc. The victims are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

According to an eyewitness and member of the victim’s family Rajni, the accused Muslim youths entered the baraat with stones and began hurling the stones on the procession. As the women dancing near the DJ ran back, the Muslim attackers snatched her Mangalsutra (nuptial chain) and that of her sister-in-law. She also said that they dialled 100, however, the police did not arrive at the spot for a considerably long time. Rajni added that when the Baraatis were coming back, amidst the chaos, the Muslim attackers returned with sticks. She said that the violence ensued for nearly half an hour. The victim’s family later lodged a police complaint against the attackers.
On Monday, local BJP MLA Nandkishor Gujjar met the victim’s family. The MLA said that the miscreants had beaten up and looted the wedding party. He has spoken to the police officers for strict action. ACP Loni Suryabali Morya said that a report has been registered on the basis of the complaint. Abdul, Tahir, Hasnain, Junaid, Sajid, Usman, and Usman’s brother Ehsan were arrested on the spot. The police said that the matter is being investigated and if the robbery accusation is found true, further action will be taken accordingly.
