Health activists of Jharkhand have hit the road against the decision of the Hemant Soren government to charge for each unit of blood provided to beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat and other health insurance schemes undergoing treatment at private hospitals.

A large number of blood donors, as well as members of civil societies, held demonstrations outside of the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi seeking the intervention of the Governor to recall this order.

On November 20, the state health and family welfare department headed by minister Banna Gupta issued an order in this regard. As per the order, private hospitals taking blood for beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat and other health insurance schemes in Jharkhand will have to make a payment to get blood from the government-run blood banks. In fact, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has already issued an order to charge money from patients who are admitted at RIMS.

The RIMS has fixed Rs 1,050 as a processing charge per unit of blood given to any patient undergoing treatment at private hospitals. Besides this, RIMS charges Rs 300 for frozen fresh plasma and platelet concentrate, and Rs 200 for cryoprecipitate.

The health department claimed the decision was taken to stop private hospitals from misusing the facility and resources of government blood banks. The department claimed that often private hospitals while treating patients under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, procure the blood free of cost from the government blood banks, but they charge Rs 2000 per unit from the insurance companies.

In order to get blood free of cost from government blood banks, private hospitals will have to submit an undertaking confirming that the patient is not registered under Ayushman Bharat or other health insurance schemes, and is below the poverty line, the order reads.

Atul Gera, the founder of Lifesavers, termed it an open loot in the name of checking private hospitals.

“Government blood banks never charged for blood. Now patients are being charged. Ayushman Bharat and private hospitals are just a cover-up. Who stops the health department from taking action against such Ayushman empanelled hospitals which charge for free blood also? This is an exercise to promote private blood banks. Even the blood processing charge of private blood banks has been increased,” Gera told OpIndia.

OpIndia spoke to some blood donors and activists who condemned the decision. Ranchi resident Vimal Krishnan who has donated his blood around forty times said that it was another low of Hemant Soren led JMM-Congress-RJD government.

“In the order copy, the health department has said that such poor who are not covered under Ayushman and other health schemes will get blood free of cost provided private hospitals certify that the said patient is poor. I wonder how can private hospital issue such a BPL certificate. Will the patient survive till the time attendants arrange necessary documents and the same is processed and approved by the hospital. Some people are not under the BPL category but they are poor. But we don’t expect any wisdom from the government,” Krishnan said.

Irfan Khan, another blood donor from Ramgarh district of Jharkhand criticised the government for the move. “Government has no right to do a business out of blood donated by donnors. “This is pathetic that the government is selling the blood which people donate to save the life of people,” said Khan.

Local journalist Sunny Sharad who is part of many charitable works said that the poor of Jharkhand will face consequences of this illogical decision. “A state which has the highest number of cases of anemia among women and children such decisions is condemnable. What if tomorrow donors demand money for donating blood? A wrong culture has been started,” he said.

Kerala HC reduces jail term for rapist Christian priest who had got a minor girl pregnant and made her own father take the blame

On Wednesday (December 1), the Kerala High Court reduced the quantum of sentence that was awarded to an ex-Catholic priest and convicted rapist Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery from 20 years to 10 years. The case shook the public conscience after it was learnt that Robin had raped and impregnated a minor girl in 2016 in what was called in the media the Kottiyoor rape case.

The matter was heard by a single-Judge Bench of Justice Narayana Pisharadi. In a fresh order, the Kerala High Court altered the charges against Robin from Indian Penal Code Section 376 (2) to Section 376 (1)and thus reduced the term of rigorous imprisonment to 10 years. At the same time, an appeal filed by the accused was disposed and a fine was imposed.

The catholic priest had earlier confessed to his crime and claimed that the act was consensual. His counsel even went to the extent of justifying the heinous crime by citing instances from the Puranas and Indian texts and claiming that it was normal human conduct. It must be mentioned that Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery had been serving jail time since February 2017.

Details of the Kottiyoor rape case

The case came to light in February 2017 after the minor victim delivered a child at a hospital in Kannur. During the police probe, it was found that Robin had raped and impregnated the victim when he was a priest at the Mananthavady Catholic diocese in 2016. In a bid to hide his crime, he forced the girl’s father to confess to raping his own daughter. And he complied. Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery then attempted to flee the country to Canada, during which he was caught by the police.

Later, the victim and her family turned hostile and claimed that the sexual act was consensual. However, a POCSO court in Thalassery in Kannur had noted that the girl was minor and could not consent to a sexual relationship. In July 2020, the minor girl and the accused filed a joint petition, seeking permission to get married. When it was turned down, they approached the Supreme Court in August this year to get married. But, it was also rejected by the apex court.

The trial court had sentenced Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in February 2019. He was also fined ₹2 lacs. Around 6 other accused in the case were acquitted. While handing out the verdict, the trial court said, “This is a case where A1 (Robin) by his sexual adventures wrecked the life of a young girl. The wreckage was massive. I am of the view that the sentence to be imposed upon A1 has to match with the gravity of the offences. However, considering the facts that the child born to PW1 (victim) and Al is growing and the child did not have the fortune of meeting his father till date, I desist from imposing life sentence upon Al.”

Actor Kangana Ranaut has filed an FIR against a Bhatinda resident at the Manali PS against a man who had threatened her on her Facebook post referring to the 26/11 incident. The Padmashree awardee informed on Instagram that she has been receiving threats from anti-national elements after her Facebook post, and one person from Bhatinda threatened to kill her. She informed that she has filed an FIR in this regard, and hoped that the Punjab government will take action soon.

“I am not scared of such threats. I have always spoken against those who go against the country and support terrorist activities and will continue to speak against them,” she further added in her Instagram post.

Kangana Ranaut posted a lengthy statement in Hindi on Instagram and Facebook in which she claimed that she has been “constantly receiving” threats from “disruptive forces” over her recent posts. Along with the post, the actor shared a photo of her and her mother from their recent trip to Amritsar’s Golden Temple.

She wrote in Hindi which could be translated as: “I am getting continuous threats from disruptive forces on this post of mine saluting the martyrs. A brother from Bathinda has openly threatened me to kill him. He says he will not leave me, and will take revenge just like Udham Singh took from General Dyer. I’m getting threats like this: ‘Now you are the traitor of the Sikh community, remember that we will not sit peacefully until we teach you a lesson. Many like you came and went. Udham Singh took revenge from General Dyer after 20 years, your number will also be given. This is a challenge for you′.”

“I’m not afraid of such jackals or threats. I speak against those who conspire against the country and the terrorist forces and will always speak. Whether the killers of innocent soldiers are Naxalites, Tukde Tukde Gang or the terrorists sitting abroad dreaming of cutting the holy land of Gurus from the country in Punjab. Democracy is the biggest strength of our country. The government may be of any party, but the fundamental right to protect the integrity, unity and fundamental rights of citizens and expression of ideas has been given to us by the Constitution of Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” she added.

“I have never said anything derogatory or hateful about any caste, religion, or group,” Kangana Ranaut further said in the post.

ANI quoted SP of Kullu district Gurdev Sharma confirming that Kangana has filed an FIR against the man who had threatened her. “Kangana Ranaut already comes under the Y+ category, so security has been provided to her by the district police. CRPF security personnel have also been deployed”, said the SP, adding that further investigation is being carried out.

Kangana Ranaut asks Sonia Gandhi to direct Punjab CM to take action on her complaint

Sharing a copy of the FIR, the actor also requested interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi to direct Charanjit Singh Channi-led Punjab government to take action on her complaint.

“I would also like to remind Congress President Sonia ji that you are also a woman and your mother-in-law Indira Gandhi ji fought strongly against this terrorism till the last moment. Kindly instruct your chief minister of Punjab to take immediate action on threats from such terrorist, disruptive and anti-national forces.”

“I have registered an FIR with the police against the threats and I hope the Punjab government will take action soon,” Ranaut said adding: “The country is paramount for me, I accept even if I have to sacrifice for it, but I am neither afraid nor will I ever be afraid, I will speak openly against the traitors in the interest of the country”.

The controversy the actor got embroiled in

In an Instagram story, the actress had earlier stated, “Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today. But let’s not forget one woman. The only woman prime minister who crushed them under the shoe. No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation, she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life. But, she did not allow the nation to divide. Even after decades of her death, even today, they shiver at her name. They need a guru like her.” This led to cases being filed against her, and she has been receiving attacks and threats after that.

Tripura : Dear opposition, there is no crying in politics

Last week, elections were held for municipal bodies all across Tripura. The results were stark. The TMC, which have been very active in the state, got 1 seat, out of 334.

As many as 329 seats for the BJP, just 3 for the Left Front and 1 for newcomer TMC. In the screenshot above, you can see Firhad Hakim, the mayor of Kolkata waving his finger at the media, telling them that there is “no democracy in Tripura.”

So what should we say here to the honourable mayor of Kolkata? How about something like Go Back, Mr Outsider? The TMC pioneered this politics. The TMC placed this politics at the heart of Indian liberalism, where anyone coming across state lines is vilified as an invader. Remember that the TMC’s campaign song “Khela Hobe” declared BJP’s “outsiders” as “Borgis” (robbers/plunderers)! The term is used in Bengali to refer to the Maratha attack on Bengal in the 1700s. So what should we label Firhad Hakim and other TMC leaders if they try to come to Tripura? Which invasion should we compare it to? You tell me.

To the media struggling to make sense of what just happened in Tripura, I have several things to say. First of all, congratulations on finally accepting Tripura as an integral part of the Republic of India. For most of you, the state did not even exist until March 3, 2018, when a BJP tsunami swept across the state, uprooting decades of Communist rule under Manik Sarkar. If I remember correctly, a statue of Lenin was vandalized the next day and all hell broke loose over “intolerance.”

Well, at least Tripura got some air time. The CPIM’s Manik Sarkar had built an economy with the highest unemployment in India, but that never made news. The only employer anywhere in Tripura was the state itself, but with zero economic activity, the state had no money to pay them. As a result, even as government employees everywhere else in India were paid as per 7th Pay Commission rates in 2018, state employees in Tripura were still stuck at 4th Pay Commission wages.

That’s right. State government employees in Tripura were earning 1983 wages in 2018. But that never came up in our media, presumably because the people of Tripura are not even citizens of India. Only a decrepit statue of Lenin somewhere in Agartala has rights. The statue may be a lifeless item with zero artistic value, but even Communist garbage can have the liberal privilege.

Oh, and because nothing else worked in the state of Tripura, the only real employers were drug lords from Myanmar, who used the state as a gateway to the rest of India. Again, the media probably never told you this. Just like they probably never told you about the woman’s skeleton found in 2005 inside the official residence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

The media never told you how much Tripura was suffering under the CPI(M) boot. And now they make you wonder how the BJP swept 329 out of 334 municipal wards. And don’t let them tell you this happened because the TMC split the opposition vote. The BJP’s vote share in the 2018 Assembly win was 43%. This went up to 49% in the Lok Sabha 2019 election and finally to 59% in the just concluded local body elections.

In other words, TMC or no TMC, the BJP was poised to sweep the election. And the people of Tripura have just delivered an astonishing knock out punch to the imperialism of Mamata Banerjee. Just because most people in Tripura speak Bengali does not mean the tiny state must submit to the TMC. The Bengal CM was recently in Goa, where she reminded voters that Bengal is a “strong state.” Yeah, Goa maybe India’s richest state, but Bengal is “strong.” That’s textbook imperialism. Remember that it is Mamata Banerjee who mainstreamed this politics, urging Indians to label fellow Indians as “Borgis” as soon as they cross state lines.

But like any good imperialist, the Bengal CM does not recognize that other people have the same rights as she does. And therefore when the results came out on Sunday, the TMC spent the day crying that there is no democracy in Tripura. News channels in West Bengal, most of which are part of the TMC’s machine, had to resort to hilarious tactics to cover for the Bengal CM’s loss of face. The most pathetic of all was the time they spent interviewing the one TMC candidate out of 334 who managed to win. At least one channel began reading out the entire list of ward numbers where the TMC had managed to come in second place.

Her enablers in “national” media were not far behind. For a month now, they had turned the state govt of Tripura into an invented super villain, blamed for anything bad that happens anywhere. Who says you can’t blame the government of Tripura for violence in Amravati in Maharashtra? One ‘liberal’ news portal did a series of “stories” on how Tripura was burning and parked them all on their front page, especially when voting was in progress. But you see, my dear launderers, when outsiders pay, it is outsiders who are served.

In all the negative coverage that the liberal ecosystem gave to Tripura before and after the local body elections, they probably forgot the most important principle of all. Most ironically, it is a principle that Mamata Banerjee illustrated in Bengal. There is no crying in politics. The scoreboard reads 329 out of 334 for the BJP. Deal with it.

Propagandist masquerading as comedian Kunal Kamra has poured cold water on the ‘liberal’ narrative that ‘comedian’ Munawar Faruqui was being targeted for his insensitive jokes because of his religious identity. Kamra today took to Twitter to claim that he had shows scheduled over next 20 days in Bengaluru and now they all stand cancelled.

He claimed that the show organisers did not get permission to accommodate 45 people in a venue that could seat more. While Kamra did not specify, the restriction could be likely due to COVID protocol amid looming threat of third wave and the omicron variant. He further claimed that there were threats given should he be allowed to perform there.

In later part of the post he claimed that the fact that his shows also got cancelled should serve as an answer to those who questioned why his shows were being allowed while Munawar Faruqui’s shows were cancelled, thereby showing religion was not the factor that people don’t like these ‘comedians’.

Since past few days, ever since Munawar Faruqui hinted second time in a year that he may quit comedy, the ‘liberals’ in India had been crying themselves hoarse that he was being targeted because of his religious identity. Faruqui had earlier cracked despicable jokes on the 59 karsevaks burnt alive by a rioting mob in Godhra in February 2002. The 59 Hindus were returning from Ayodhya after offering their seva for Ram Mandir. Faruqui had also refused to apologise for making fun of dead Hindus who were killed for being Hindus and the same was also portrayed as creative freedom.

To put things in perspective, a German or anyone for that matter making fun of the Holocaust or even denying it happened would not be an acceptable thing. Similarly, Godhra carnage denial is a very well oiled machinery to deny the carnage took place where Hindus were burnt alive.

However, since his shows were cancelled in past few months, Faruqui was upset his ‘joke’ on dead Hindus went viral and blamed others for making it viral and others played victim that he was being targeted for being a Muslim. And while Kamra has not trivialised Hindus being killed in any public video clip, his servile attitude towards Mamata Banerjee might have been taken to be akin by some folks, since the recent post poll violence in West Bengal where BJP supporters were targeted and killed was cheered by the likes of Kamra who find ‘Sanghis’ expendable.

However, with the recent updates in the ‘Indian standup comedy circle’ as Kamra put it, it is not religious thing at all as along with Faruqui, people even don’t like Kamra.

Plea filed in SC to censor all future social media posts of actor Kangana Ranaut to ‘maintain law and order’ in the country

An advocate named Charanjeet Singh Chanderpal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking censoring of all future social media posts of actor Kangana Ranaut. According to the petitioner, the actor’s social media posts should be censored in order to maintain law and order in the country. The actor had recently stirred a controversy by her ‘Khaliastni Terrorists’ remark.

Chanderpal’s plea seeks a direction to Union Home Ministry, IT Ministry, TRAI and State Police Authorities of different states to take preventive action on social media.

In his petition, the lawyer also requested that all FIRs lodged against Kangana Ranaut be transferred to the Khar police station in Mumbai. He further urged that the charge sheet against Kangana Ranaut be filed in the next six months, followed by an expedited trial within two years.

“The remarks are not only outrageous and blasphemous but also intend to cause riots, hurt religious sentiments, they are defamatory as well as portray Sikhs in a totally anti-national manner. It also justifies the innocent killing of Sikhs. The remarks are totally against the unity of our country and the actress deserves a serious punishment in law. They cannot be brushed aside or excused,” the plea read.

It further read that, “Kangana’s social media posts must be amended, deleted, modified or censored to maintain law and order.” Her ‘irresponsible’ comments about the recent farmers’ protest, as well as her purported portrayal of Sikh farmers as separatist ‘Khalistanis,’ were also mentioned in the plea filed against her in the SC.

Reacting to the petition, the Manikarnika actress called herself the “most powerful woman” in the country. On her Instagram account, Kangana uploaded the Tweet of the news shared by news agency ANI which mentioned that a plea seeking censorship of her future social media posts in order to maintain law and order has been filed in the SC. “Ha ha ha most powerful woman in this country,” she wrote along with it. She added a crown emoji as well.

Delhi ‘peace and harmony panel’ headed by AAP leader Raghav Chadha summons Kangana Ranaut 

Recently, she had been summoned by the Delhi assembly’s panel on peace and harmony, headed by Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha, over her alleged remarks against the Sikhs. Ranaut has been told to appear before the committee on December 6.

The actor also faces a first information report (FIR) in Mumbai filed by Sikhs for the same. Moreover, on Saturday (November 20), the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara management committee had also filed a complaint against Ranaut accusing her of supposedly referring to the entire Sikh community as ‘Khalistani elements.’

Main accused in Jorhat mob lynching case dies after hit by a vehicle while trying to escape from custody, Assam DGP quotes Newton’s third law

Niraj Das, the prime accused of the Jorhat mob-lynching case in Assam, died in the road accident on the night of the intervening night of December 1 after he allegedly jumped out of the moving police jeep to escape from police custody. Das was also known as ‘Kola Lora’ (black boy), and was a notorious criminal facing several other charges before lynching student leader Animesh Bhuyan.

The incident took place at Cinamara Khariya Chuk locality in Jorhat district as he was hit by another police escort car. He was rushed to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) where doctors declared him dead. Three other police personnel manning the escort car were injured as the driver lost balance after hitting Niraj Das and collided with a wall. Police were taking him for the search of a hidden drug consignment, but now cops are saying he misled the police in the name of drugs, and had done this to plan the escape.

“The incident took place at around 1:30 am Wednesday. He was a drug smuggler. He had assured us of helping in identifying drug trade spots in Jorhat. So, we took him to bust drug network. But it now appears that he was misleading us. He had planned to escape from police custody by taking us to that place,” a police official told the media. 

“He jumped out of the police vehicle. The car that followed, which was also a police vehicle, lost control by seeing him jump out of a running car and instead accidentally hit the accused leading to his death. Three of our men have also sustained injuries in the accident and are being treated at the JMCH,” the official further said.

After new of Kola Lora’s death spread, people in Jorhat and Golaghat district came out on the street to celebrate. Many people were seen bursting firecrackers to celebrate the death of the notorious criminal, who had over 90 cases filed against him and was out on bail in those cases. Niraj Das was accused of instigating the mob attack on three people which led to the tragic death of Animesh Bhuyan and the injury of the other two.

Soon after the incident, the Special DGP of Law and Order of Assam GD Singh posted a cryptic message on his Twitter handle.

However, Singh who is monitoring the probe of the merciless killing of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Animesh Bhuyan in Jorhat, has not mentioned anything about Niraj Das alias Kala Lora in his tweet.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma quote tweeted GP Singh’s tweet, adding, “Assam will be free of crime and criminal – come what may.”

AASU leader was lynched by mob on false allegations

On Monday (November 29), Animesh Bhuyan (28) who served as the Education Secretary of the Brahmaputra Regional Committee of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) was lynched by a group of about 50 people near Nirmal Chariali in Jorhat following an argument over a road accident. The mob attacked Bhuyan and two others, local reporter Mridusmanta Baruah and local AASU leader Pranay Dutta, who were travelling with him. The mob alleged their vehicle had hit an elderly man riding a scooter. But later it surfaced that the man on the scooter had fallen himself, and Bhuyan and the other two had gone to help the man. But the man accused them of hitting him, which led to a mob attack on the three led by Niraj Das. Bhuyan died in the attack while Baruah and Dutta suffered serious injuries.

This horrific incident was even filmed by some people and it went viral. The incident took place in broad daylight in a busy street but no one intervened to save them from the mob.

Jorhat SP Ankur Jain told the media that Bhuyan’s vehicle had not hit that elderly man. The SP said that the elderly man had fallen from the scooter himself. That elderly man was under the influence of alcohol and he created a scene. Bhuyan and two others had rushed to help that elderly man but he started shouting and said that they had run him over. On this, the mob became violent and attacked them. According to the police, Niraj Das was a habitual offender and he was seen in the video. He was also involved in drug trafficking.

Taking cognizance of the gruesome killing, Assam chief minister had ordered GP Singh to personally monitor the case, arrest all accused and file charge sheet in a month time.

At least 13 people have been arrested in mob lynching case including Niraj Das who was arrested a day after the incident. The arrested accused were also manhandled by an angry crowd on November 30 in front of a local court, where they were taken for production before the court. The Jorhat Bar Association passed a resolution not to fight for any of the accused persons during the trial.

The incident took place at around 10:07 PM on November 19 as per the details on CCTV footage. One can see a woman trying to park the car as another woman got off the car. Suddenly 4-5 men come out from the lane and start beating up a woman. When the driver of the car gets down, they then beat her up as well. They punch and kick and even use sticks to assault them. After beating them up, the men walk away.

The woman was later admitted to hospital. As per a report by Zee News, local Aam Aadmi Party MLA Vandana Kumari has been accused of sending goons to beat her up.

Based on the complaint of the woman an FIR has been registered against unknown persons and an investigation has been initiated. No arrests have been made so far. While the woman has named AAP MLA to the police, the FIR does not name her. As per reports, two women are also arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Yet another case of grooming jihad has come to light in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh. On November 30, Hamirpur Police registered a case against one Abdul Mobeen resident of village Balapur, Jarwa Tulsipur division, district Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, who had pretended to be Rajesh Yadav to lure a Hindu girl. The case has been registered under Sections 376(3), 363, 366, 420, 342, 506, and 295 of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 3/4 of POCSO Act and Sections 3/5 of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020.

As per the Police, around four years ago in 2018, a minor girl had run away with Mobeen who had identified himself as Rajesh Yadav. She was taken to Lucknow and then Balrampur, where she was forced to convert to Islam before getting married to Mobeen as per Islamic rituals (Nikah). He then took her to Mumbai. In a statement, the Police said that Mobeen disguised himself as Rajesh Yadav and told the minor girl that he was a Hindu. He lured the girl into a relationship and took her away.

In the complaint filed by the victim’s family, it was alleged that Mobeen forcefully converted her and married her. He also made a physical relationship with the minor girl without consent. She was regularly beaten up by Mobeen. The girl, who was named Ayesha Mobeen, later came to know that Mobeen was already married three times. The family has also alleged that the accused wanted to sell the girl.

The girl somehow managed to escape and reached her paternal house with her child. After learning about the incident, Bajrang Dal activists accompanied the family to the Police station to file the complaint.

Family alleged inaction by Police in 2018

The family of the victim has alleged that they had filed a missing report in 2018. The Police had registered the complaint but did not take the case seriously.

Probe initiated in the case

Kamlesh Dixit, Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur, said, “A complaint has been filed at Maudaha Police Station by a woman that she married a man four years ago. The man whom she married had hidden his real identity and had presented himself as a Hindu. The Police has registered the complaint. Appropriate action as per the law will be taken against the accused.” He further added that the investigation is underway, and Police would take appropriate action as per the law against whoever is involved in the case.

OpIndia reached out to the SP office for the latest updates. They said that as the complaint was filed yesterday, the investigation is still in the initial stage. Further action would be taken based on the evidence.

As per Police’s statement, a team has been dispatched to Balrampur district to arrest the accused.

Maharashtra: Bhiwandi Police arrest 40 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, fake Indian IDs seized

On November 30, 40 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested by Bhiwandi Police in and around Bhiwandi city, district Thane, Maharashtra. Police said these Bangladeshis were living in three different areas in Bhiwandi.

As per Yogesh Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, Bhiwandi, these immigrants worked as labourers in different locations without any valid documents to stay in India. A case has been registered against the accused under the Foreign Nationals Act and Indian Passport Act.

Reports suggest that Police conducted several raids in and around the city and made the arrests. Around 20 of them were arrested in Shanti Nagar, and 10 each were arrested in the Bhiwandi town and Narpoli Police Station regions. 28 mobile phones worth Rs. 94,000, fake passports, PAN cards and Aadhaar cards were recovered from their possessions. Police further added that the documents the Bangladeshi nationals had contained addresses of Mumbai, Bhiwandi and Gujarat.

The Police found that they were using IMO App to communicate with the relatives in Bangladesh and the person who reportedly helped them cross the border.

Nine were arrested in Bhiwandi earlier

Similar arrests were reported on November 20 in Bhiwandi’s Saravalli village. The Police had arrested nine illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were working at a textile mill following a tip-off. The main accused among the arrested, identified as Salim Shaikh, had been living in the area for the last 16 years.

Last week, five Bangladeshi illegal immigrants were arrested by Karnataka Police from Bengaluru’s outskirts. Araga Jnanendra, the Karnataka Home Minister, had called such illegal immigrants a ‘threat to national security’. He added that the state government has ordered all police stations to identify and arrest illegal immigrants. The Police had recovered ration cards and aadhaar cards from the immigrants. The Home Minister added that they were receiving the benefits reserved for the poor people of the state.
