Numerous shocking revelations have emerged as the Haryana police continues to probe the horrifying case of a gang rape of a 25-year-old woman who travelled all the way from West Bengal to participate in the anti-farm law protests at the Tikri Border site. According to reports, after the death of the victim on April 30, the protesting farmer activists had taken out a procession by placing the dead body in an open jeep, even though she allegedly died of Covid-19. 

As per guidelines, there are strict protocols in place that do not allow such processions of anyone who has died of Covid as it may infect the attendees.

Farmer ‘activists’ dubbed the victim as martyr to whitewash crime

However, unfettered, the farmers took out a funeral procession before her last rites were performed. They dubbed her a martyr as they claimed she died while fighting for farmer’s rights. This was reportedly done to hide the fact that she had been raped and sexually harassed at the protest location, which these activists knew at the time but chose to ignore, a report by Dainik Jagran claimed.

Moreover, apart from the three arrested accused, namely Anil Malik and his accomplice Anup Chinaut of Hisar, and Ankur Sangwan of Charkhi Dadri, there were others who were involved in the crime. The FIR, which was registered at the Women’s Police Station Bahadurgarh on the basis of a complaint by the girl’s father, names 6 accused, identified as Anil Malik, Anup Singh Chinaut, Ankur Sangwan, Kavita Arya, Jagdish Brar and Yogita Suhag. All the accused are members of the Kisan Social Army.

They have been charged under IPC Sections 120B, 342, 354, 365, 376D and 506 for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, assault, rape, kidnapping, blackmailing and criminal intimidation.

Following the arrest, the main accused Anil Malik has reportedly confessed that he along with his accomplice Anup Chinaut had raped the deceased victim in the train as well as at the farmer’s protest site on the Tikri border.

A report by Hindi daily Amar Ujala reveals that apart from this, the accused had also blackmailed the victim with a video of the act which he recorded from his own phone.

According to the police, the third accused Ankur Sangwan had also molested the victim. Meanwhile, Jagdish Brar was found guilty of covering up the incident.

Additionally, the complaint registered by the victim’s father on 16 April said that the victim had revealed details of the sexual assault on her to two persons at the site – Jagdish Brar and Yogita Suhag. Yogita recorded a video of her statement in Jagdish’s presence. But the matter was suppressed until the victim’s father filed a formal complaint.

Connection of the Tikri border rape case with Aam Aadmi Party

As per reports, Anup Singh, one of the accused, was an active member of the Aam Aadmi Party from the Hisar region. AAP MLA Sushil Kumar has confirmed his involvement with the party. Another accused, Anil Malik is an AAP member in Delhi. However, Kumar claimed he did not have any information about him. These two were active at Farmer Protests from the beginning under the banner of the Kisan Social Army. Since the woman died in hospital, Anup has been missing from the protest site.

The silence of ‘farmer leaders’ like Yogendra Yadav

Yogendra Yadav, a professional protestor who is now protesting on behalf of “farmers,” said on May 10 that he was aware of the woman’s sexual harassment as well as the potential kidnapping of the West Bengal girl by the perpetrators. This revelation drew tremendous condemnation for Yadav who chose to remain silent despite knowing about the incident.

The Tikri border rape case

OpIndia had reported that on April 12, the woman was sexually assaulted while travelling by train from West Bengal to join a farmer’s protest on April 12. She was later raped at the protest venue also. After contracting Covid-19, the victim died on April 30 at a private hospital in Bahadurgarh.

Two police officers of Delhi Police’s Special Branch team were allegedly attacked by protesting farmers at the Singhu border on Thursday. The incident took place when the officers were reportedly taking pictures at the protest site.

According to Delhi Police, the personnel were doing ground analysis at the Narela border after there was an increase in the number of protesters who came from Panipat two days back. 

Describing the attack, one of the police officials said, “A woman came to us and questioned what we were doing there. Then others came and surrounded us. They all seemed to be drunk. They attacked us. My colleague sustained a fracture in his hand. Somehow we managed to save ourselves.”

Following the attack, an FIR has been filed at the Narela police station against unknown protesters for assaulting police personnel and obstructing them for doing their duty. 

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait defends attack against Delhi Police officials

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait defended the farmers, alleging that they mistook police officials for journalists.

“They (Police) must have been in civil dress and farmers might have mistaken them for channel people (media) who portray their movement in bad light,” Tikait spoke on the incident of assault against Delhi Police officers on June 10. 

In addition, Tikait blamed the government and police for instigating farmers. “Police and government want to instigate farmers. If they (police) have been visiting the site for days, contact should have been established. They can file FIR, but there should be something to write in it,” he added.

Violence, Khalistani terrorism, rapes and more: Farmers’ protest against three agriculture laws

Since November 2020, the so-called farmers have camped on the borders of the national capital in opposition to the three farm laws—Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. 

The protests have seen multiple incidents of violence, most notably the Republic Day insurrection when scores of’ farmers’ ran riot on the streets of Delhi and tried to capture the Red Fort and turn it into a protest site. 

The protest also saw participation from pro-Khalistani members, who have been toiling to revive Khalistani terrorism and throw the country into chaos. More recently, the protests have also proven to be unsafe for women, with cases of rapes allegedly committed by protesters being reported.

How propaganda media and cartoonist Manjul are milking a Twitter email to the hilt

On June 4, Anti-BJP cartoonist Manjul took to Twitter to insinuate that the Modi government has been trying to silence his freedom of expression. He had shared a screenshot of an email received from ‘Twitter Legal’, wherein it pointed out that the microblogging platform had received a request from Indian law enforcement authorities regarding his account. “Jai Ho Modi ji ki sarkar ki (All hail the Narendra Modi-led-government),” he alleged.

Twitter correspondence of this nature is not out of the ordinary. OpIndia itself has got several such emails from Twitter. In fact, other activists on Twitter have also received several such emails with the body of the email reading exactly the same as the text that was tweeted by Manjul.

However, this email became the trope with which Manjul, and several others, beat the Modi government. Manjul used this email to say, “Thanks to the Modi government that it did not ask Twitter to shut down the handle for being anti-religion and atheist and not considering Modi ji as my God.” Manjul further insinuated that the warning from Twitter was received at the behest of the Indian government. He wrote, “It would have been better if the government informed about the tweet that had offended it. I could have re-posted the same tweet. This would have helped the people.”

Soon, news surfaced that Manjul’s contract with Network 18 has been terminated. No sooner had the news appeared, did The Wire attribute the termination of the contract to the Twitter email that Manjul had got.

The Wire attributed its information to sources, said that “there was no indication that he would be suspended and the sudden move has taken them by surprise”. The Wire claims that it is the context of the email from Twitter that Manjul was suspended from Network 18, where had been working for the past 6 years.

The same report was then picked up by Newslaundry, another left-wing propaganda portal to spread the narrative further.

Even when one evaluates the reasons being peddled by The Wire, to anyone who wishes to look at the situation logically, the reason seems to be a bit of a stretch. Any company generally terminates its freelance contributors as and when they please, mostly as a cost-cutting measure or when they believe that the freelance contributor has become more of a burden than an asset. That is a legitimate decision that any company would take and the decision can be based on several factors. However, it is rather convenient to claim that a decision such as this would be taken based on one generic email by Twitter, that is not unique to Manjul, but has been received by hundreds of people on social media.

A former freelance writer with Network 18 too chimed in on the controversy.

He indicated that he too had been removed with ‘immediate effect’ from the list of freelance contributors and attributed the move possibly to Network 18’s possible cost-cutting measures in the midst of a pandemic.

In fact, lay-offs in the media industry were rather common during the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic as portals and media houses struggled to make ends meet not just in India but across the globe.

In March 2021, left-wing media outlet BuzzFeed announced that it has laid off 47 reporters, editors and producers from the newly acquired HuffPost in USA. BuzzFeed also said that they would be closing down HuffPost’s Canadian operation due to the ongoing organisational restructuring.

In a statement, BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti said to the employees that they would begin to restructure HuffPost to fast-track its path to profitability. Unfortunately, that includes staff reductions, and a number of talented colleagues will be laid off over the next few days, he said. Reportedly, Peretti said losses last year pegged at $20M and would be similar this year without intervention. 

“Though BuzzFeed is a profitable company, we don’t have the resources to support another two years of losses,” said Peretti announcing his decision to lay off 47 employees.

In April 2020, the Digital far-left propagandist website The Quint has asked 45 employees to go on indefinite leave without pay in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. The list of employees sent on indefinite leave by the propagandists at The Quint includes reporters, copy editors, a bureau chief, production staff and the entire technology team. 

In April 2020 itself, India Today group had announced that it is shutting down its Delhi-tabloid Mail Today. The notice read, “It has been a privilege to be your paper of choice and inform you day after day. However, it is a fact that the coronavirus pandemic has drastically changed all our circumstances.” The print edition of Mail Today was in circulation from the last thirteen years. The notice further added, “It is with deep regret that we announce the suspension of the print edition of Mail Today, effective today.”

Therefore, the cost-cutting measures are not new in the midst of the pandemic and attributing Manjul’s exit to source based information and linking it to the Twitter email, only reeks of a motivated agenda that portals like The Wire and Newslaundry peddle rather effectively.

Interestingly, even an old colleague of Manjul did not quite believe the version being peddled by The Wire and Newslaundry. A former colleague of Manjul told OpIndia, “Manjul had resigned from DNA and had thought he’d have a flourishing freelance career and make much more money than what monthly salary was bringing him. However, his plans went haywire and he couldn’t get many contracts. He’s been bitter and now trying to blame external factors for a bad career move. I hope he’s finally making good money thanks to all publicity he’s been able to garner”.

It is pertinent to note here that Manjul was earlier a cartoonist with the Zee Media owned DNA. After taking up freelance work, he turned virulently anti-BJP and has been drawing cartoons since then to peddle anti-BJP agenda. 

Irrational and motivated strategy to defame Modi government

While Manjul, The Wire and Newslaundry brazenly tried to portray the hand of the Modi government behind the Twitter correspondence, nothing can be further from the truth. If we apply the rationale of the anti-BJP cartoonist, then, it will imply that the Indian government is out there to destroy Opindia and popular Twitter users such as Vikaso and Ankur Singh since all mentioned have received the exact same correspondence from Twitter.

While it is not unusual for the left-liberal lobby to pin the blame on the Modi government over trivial issues, the hullaballoo created on Twitter by Manjul appears to be a part of a new devious strategy to peddle propaganda against the incumbent government.

Oxfam says reporting rape cases harms black and marginalised people, blames ‘privileged white women’ for root causes of sexual violence

An Oxfam training document recently suggested that “privileged white women” were supporting the ‘root causes of sexual violence’ for wanting assailants imprisoned because it disproportionately affects minorities.

Oxfam, which has been mired in controversies over a host of sex scandals, including claims that employees used underage prostitutes in Haiti, compiled a PowerPoint presentation through its LGBT network that claimed mainstream feminism supports ‘the root causes of sexual violence’ by presenting white women as ‘victims’ and which in turn justifies the excessive punishment for ‘black and other marginalised people’.

The slide shows a sobbing woman, accompanied by a message that says mainstream feminism centres on privileged white women as victims and demands that ‘bad men’ be fired or imprisoned. It says that fighting against sexual assault legitimises criminal punishment, which harms black and other marginalised people.

Oxfam training manual that blames white women for pressing charges against offenders

The Oxfam training manual draws inspiration from the book Me Not You: The Trouble with Mainstream Feminism, authored by Alison Phipps, a professor of gender studies at Sussex University. Phipps describes herself as a political sociologist ‘focusing on mainstream Western feminism, especially movements around sexual violence’. The book concludes that mainstream feminism is supporting, not undoing, the root causes of sexual violence.

Summarising the main theme of the book, the Oxfam presentation says that white feminists need to ask themselves whether they are causing harm when they fight against sexual violence.

According to Naomi Cunningham, a discrimination and employment law barrister, the message from the contentious PowerPoint presentation seemed to allege that woman who report a rape or sexual assault case to police are considered as hateful “white feminist”. This is a classic case where victims are blamed and tried to silenced for the atrocities committed upon them, she said.

She slammed the document that indirectly tried to suggest a woman stoically endure sexual assaults and rapes committed on them and refrain from reporting them to police. “I think any woman could make an arguable case that this has created or contributed to an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment, which is how the Equality Act defines harassment,” she added.

Charges of sexual exploitation against Oxfam staff

It is noteworthy to mention that while the Oxfam training manual hold victims responsible for the sexual assaults committed on them, in 2018, Oxfam was at the centre of a raging turmoil after its staff members in Haiti were accused of using underage prostitutes. It was reported that the Haiti Oxfam chief solicited prostitutes in a villa which was paid and provided for by Oxfam, exposing the dark underbelly of international charity organizations and NGOs in general.

This was not an isolated case. A year later, similar allegations of sexual exploitation were levelled against the Oxfam employees in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Two employees were suspended as a part of an “external investigation” into the matter.

However, according to The Times, whistleblowers were “frustrated at the length of time taken to complete the investigation”. Former and current staff members of Oxfam made allegations of sexual exploitation, bullying, fraud, and nepotism against 11 people in a letter sent to the Oxfam leadership.

After Oxfam’s Haiti sexual exploitation scandal came to light in 2018, the charity promised to bring reforms and changes, but the reemergence of allegations revealed that changes if made, were not sufficient. The UK Charity Commission concluded that Oxfam had a “culture of poor behaviour” and was issued with a warning over its “mismanagement”. In the wake of this scandal, thousands of people cancelled their regular donations to Oxfam, causing Oxfam to make cuts worth 16 million British pounds.

Oxfam India and its deference to the Congress party

It is to be noted that the CEO of Oxfam India, Amitabh Behar, wrote a fawning article on the Congress party. In the article, Behar offers numerous sermons to the Congress party and eulogizes its idea of India. Furthermore, a Board Member of Oxfam India was involved in the drafting of the deeply dangerous and anti-Hindu Communal Violence Bill.

UNDP says Aspirational Districts Programme extremely effective, lauds Modi for personally monitoring the initiative

UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), the global development network of the United Nations, has assessed the Central government’s ‘Aspirational Districts Programme’ and found it to be extremely effective in accelerating development. It said that in the last three years since the initiative has been implemented, these districts have shown more growth and development than ever before.

According to the UNDP appraisal, Ranchi, Chandauli, Simdega, Sonbhadra and Rajgarh were identified as the top five districts with maximum change in net resilience since 2018. Meanwhile, the least improved districts according to the UNDP’s resilience and vulnerability index were Sitamarhi in Bihar, Gumla (Jharkhand), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh), Bijapur (Karnataka), and Nawada (Bihar).

“Given the positive impact of the programme, it is necessary to ensure the focus on development is encouraged further and momentum gained so far in expediting growth is maintained. Based on the findings of the evaluation, it is recommended that the success of the programme be scaled up and replicated for other sectors and districts,” the UNDP report recommended.

The report stated that the most notable feature of the programme, that has considerably helped to its success, is the country’s senior political leadership’s dedication to bringing speedy growth to India’s underdeveloped areas. It lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for personally monitoring the program and motivating the district collectors to deliver their best at the field level.

Aspirational Districts Programme launched by PM Modi in 2018

The Aspirational Districts Programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, with the goal of expediting the transformation of 112 of India’s most backward districts across 28 states by bringing together government programmes and policies. The initiative was led by the government think tank Niti Aayog, in collaboration with the central and state governments.

The primary focus of this initiative is on five critical sectors:

  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Agriculture and water resource
  • Financial inclusion and skill development
  • Basic infrastructure

“Overall, findings from the net resilience index indicate that the aspirational districts, on average, have been on an upward trajectory since the inception of the programme. A closer look at the best performers indicates an improvement in resilience along with a corresponding reduction in vulnerabilities,” the report said.

“On the other hand, the least improved districts have seen significant increases in vulnerabilities. The latter calls for focused attention on specific sectors where these districts have underperformed. Replicating successful programs and learnings from top performers might form the basis of the inclusive growth among the aspirational districts,” it added.

The report furthered that, more significantly, the programme was established with the goal of lowering inter-and intra-state disparities, and it is on course to accomplish that goal. The distinctive aspects of introducing competition, handholding assistance from the federal and state governments, and collaboration with multiple agencies are proven effective in realising the aim of holistic development.

“However, stakeholders such as prabhari officers and development partners also warned that the momentum gained at the inception of the programme is starting to diminish and efforts must be made to motivate the districts”, the report said, adding that since the programme has been running for three years, it may be necessary to implement re-training and learning programmes on best practices among the districts in order to re-establish momentum and work toward the remaining goals.

On Friday (June 11), members of the Youth Congress threw a bike into Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad in Telangana to protest against the Modi government.

In a video shared by The News Minute, a group of 5-6 Youth Congress workers were seen dumping a bike into the lake to protest against rising petrol and diesel prices in the city. In a bizarre display of demonstration, the men lifted the bike, put it onto the railing, and pushed it down the river.

They also demanded a complete rollback of increased prices of diesel, petrol, and LPG across the country. It must be mentioned that the Congress party had announced on Wednesday (June 9) that it would hold a ‘symbolic protest’ outside petrol pumps on Friday.

After fuel prices surpassed the ₹100 marks in some States, Congress directed all the State units to hit the streets and hold protests. Several party stalwarts such as State President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy, MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, party spokesperson Dasoju Sravan and working presidents A Revanth Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar were seen outside petrol pumps in several parts of the State.

Earlier, KC Venugopal, Congress General Secretary Organisation, had directed its party workers and leaders to put out a ‘visible public campaign’ against the price hike and its impact on those suffering unemployment, job losses, and wage reduction. The scars of the January 26 insurgency, when so-called farmers opposing Centre’s three agriculture bills marched into Delhi from various sites to lay siege to the Red Fort, have remained with the people. Now, in what could be feared to culminate into a similar tragedy, the protesting ‘farmers’ on Friday announced that they will stage ‘Raj Bhavan gherao’ across the country on June 26.

This ‘gherao’ is reportedly being organised to mark the completion of seven months of farmers agitation against the three new farm laws.

Farmers will gherao and protest by showing black flags at Raj Bhavans on June 26

During the protest, farmers will stage demonstration outside official residences of the governors in respective states while displaying black flags.

While announcing the gherao, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions, said that the day would be observed as “Kheti Bachao, Loktantra Bachao Diwas (save farming, save democracy day)”.

The union said it will be sending memorandums to President Ram Nath Kovind through the governor of each state.

‘This is an undeclared emergency’: Samyukta Kisan Morcha

“We will protest by showing black flags at Raj Bhavans and giving a memorandum to the President through the governor of each state, who is the President’s representative. It (June 26) is also the day when the Emergency was declared in 1975 and we will complete seven months of our protest. Along with farming, the democratic rights of the people have also been attacked in this environment of dictatorship. This is an undeclared emergency,” Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader Inderjit Singh said while addressing a press conference.

The Republic Day insurrection by so-called protesting ‘farmers’

The January 26 insurrection was reminiscent of some of India’s darkest moments. There were unprecedented scenes observed in Delhi on that day. Hundreds and thousands stormed the national capital from unpermitted routes and started rioting when Delhi Police tried to stop them. A group among them managed to reach Red Fort and hoisted two flags with the Sikh holy symbol Nishan Sahib. One of the flags was hoisted on the flag pole designated for Indian National Flag that is hoisted on August 15 every year to mark Independence Day.

There were visuals of one of the protestors throwing away Tricolour while trying to hoist the alien flag. The protestors at several places tried to mow down the police personnel with tractors. Police personnel were attacked with lathis, stones, swords and other sharp weapons by the protestors. RTI replies reveal that around 299 police personnel were injured, which is lesser than the actual number as some data was not revealed due to ongoing investigation.

The January 26 insurrection was reminiscent of some of India’s darkest moments, and with farmers intending to gherao the Raj Bhavans again, one fears that this event may be a rehash of the same.

In a historic decision, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has allowed single, widowed, and divorced women to stay independently without the prior approval of their father or male guardian.

As per reports, ‘adult and rationale’ women can now stay in a separate accommodation without seeking permission of the father or other male guardians. The judicial authorities in the Gulf nation have removed Paragraph B of Article 169 of the “Law of Procedure before Sharia Courts.” A new text has instead been inserted, which states, “An adult woman has the right to choose where to live. A woman’s guardian can report her only if he has evidence proving she committed a crime.”

It must be mentioned that the Courts earlier would prioritise cases filed under the ‘absenteeism law’ by parents against daughters for living independently without prior permission. However, courts will no longer entertain such cases. The historic decision comes at the backdrop of a 2017 lawsuit fought by 32-year-old writer Mariam Al Otaibi. She fought her case for 3 years after her parents filed a report for living and travelling alone without their permission.

She won the case in July last year and the court ordered that she has the right to choose where she wanted to live. Otaibi had fled her home in Ar Rass and moved to Riyadh following the abusive behaviour of her father and brothers.

Pakistanis miffed by the decision of Saudi Arabia

While the Saudi Arabia women were elated, Pakistani men were irked by the decision. One Muhammad Umair Shahab wrote, “Following the West will bring KSA a very shameful end as the US faced in Afghanistan. What I predict is that the Hijaz (Makkah and Madina) will get into Turkish hand back again IA. They are somehow more in defending Islam and its propagation.”

Another Pakistani, Faseeh Khan remarked, “The destruction of KSA made its debut in the debauch and libertarianism. I wish they’d be ashamed of themselves.” One Da Khan Zwey said, “The decline commences now in there. Let’s wait for the consequences.”

Honour killing of Pakistani girl in Italy: Victim’s cousin arrested in France, parents who fled to Pakistan and two other missing accused wanted by police

One arrest has been in the case of the alleged honour killing of a teenage Pakistani girl in Italy last month. Ikram Ijaz, one of victim Saman Abbas’ cousins, was arrested in Nimes in France and was later handed over to Italy. He was taken into custody by Italian authorities at the Ventimiglia border, from where he was taken to a prison in Reggio Emilia city.

Ijaz was arrested on 29th May by French police on a European arrest warrant issued by the Reggio Emilia court at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and he was extradited to Italy on 9th June. He was later presented in a court, where he denied any involvement in the disappearance of the girl.

Ikram Ijaz is among the suspects behind murder of 18-year-old girl Pakistani girl Saman Abbas, and the concealment of the body. It has been suspected that she was killed and buried by her family for refusing to marry her cousin. According to the Italian police, the teenage Pakistani girl’s parents Shabbar and Nazia, together with uncle Hasnain and cousins Nomanulhaq and Ijaz, allegedly strangled her and buried her in the fields near her home.

Italy police searching for the body of the Pakistani girl

Police suspect all five of murder and disposing of her body, although no remains have yet been found. They have been searching for the girl since early May and have now begun using electromagnetic sensors and sniffer dogs to conduct a more thorough search of the area.

CCTV footage accessed by authorities from April 29, a day before the alleged murder, show Ikram Ijaz, , his uncle Danish Hasnain and Saman’s other cousin Nomanulhaq Nomanulhaq with shovels, crowbar and bucket heading towards the fields, presumably to dig a grave for the girl.

Hasnain, who is said to be the mastermind of the alleged murder, and Nomanulhaq are still on the run and the police are searching for them. According to the cops, Hasnain and Nomanulhaq are also probably somewhere in Europe, but their exact whereabouts are still unknown. In the meanwhile, the parents of the girl have fled to Pakistan, and they are also wanted in Italy for the crime.

How the family of the Pakistani girl in Italy conspired to kill and dispose her body

Police revealed that the case dates back to last year when the family tried to force Saman into an arranged marriage with her cousin in Pakistan. The girl fled her home after she got into an argument with her parents for the same.

Since October 2020, Saman had been living in a refugee camp under the protection of social services. However, on April 11 2021, Saman returned home back to her parents. Authorities believed she had been tricked into returning home by her parents. 

Meanwhile, her family started preparing for her murder by April 26, 2021. The Police in Italy recovered CCTV footage from 29 April, the day before authorities believe she was murdered, which they say shows three of the suspects walking with spades, a crowbar and a blue bag into the field near Saman’s house at around 7.30 pm. The three suspects were Hasnain, Nomanulhaq and Ijaz, said the police.

The three were again captured on the CCTV, two hours later, while returning home.

The next day, Saman allegedly overheard a conversation between her family and informed her boyfriend that they were conspiring to kill her. Saman had reportedly instructed her boyfriend to contact the police in two days if she hadn’t messaged him.

Saman’s boyfriend told Italian newspaper Gazzetta di Reggio Emiliano that Saman texted him saying she had overheard her uncle saying that “murder is the only solution for girls who disobey Pakistan’s strict honour codes”.

More CCTV footage, which the police have not made public, shows Saman’s parents, Shabbar and Nazia, taking their daughter into the fields behind the farm at nine minutes past midnight on May 1.

Just after 13 minutes, the couple returned, with father Shabbar carrying a backpack that Saman had previously worn. Saman was allegedly handed over to her uncle Hasnain and cousins, Nomanulhaq and Ijaz, who were waiting in the fields. They then allegedly killed her and buried her body somewhere in the field, according to police.

Shabbas and Nazia then left for Pakistan, reportedly to see an ill cousin, while Ijaz headed into Europe. Hasnain returned home and stayed with Saman’s 16-year-old brother.

When the police went to Saman’s house searching for her, they found uncle Hasnain and Saman’s brother in the house. The police detained the brother while letting the uncle go. During interrogation, Saman’s brother told them of his suspicions that Hasnain orchestrated his sister’s killing with the help of his family and cousins.

The boy claims the whole family was afraid of Hasnain, who he believes strangled his sister to death. He claimed to have overheard the argument on the night his sister disappeared. Now, based on the teenager’s testimony, the Italian police have issued warrants for the family on suspicion of premeditated murder of the teenage girl.

The political violence in West Bengal continues unabated as BJP MP Jayanta Kumar Roy and his supporters were brutally beaten up by the TMC workers in West Bengal’s Siliguri on Thursday.

According to the reports, Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Kumar Roy and his party workers were attacked with bamboo and sticks by Trinamool workers at Raiganj block in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. The severely injured Lok Sabha MP and his supporters were taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri for treatment.

The BJP MP said he was attacked around 5 pm on Thursday by TMC goons. “They attacked me with bamboo sticks on my head and arms”, said the BJP leader.

“Few others who were with me were also attacked. There is no rule of law in West Bengal,” Roy, the Member of Parliament from Jalpaiguri, said. According to his statement, the MP was attacked on the head and suffered injuries on the abdomen. 

BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that Roy and four other workers were attacked by TMC when they were arranging the return of BJP workers who left due to the post-poll violence in the state.

“Dr Jayanta Kumar Roy; M.P. Jalpaiguri attacked by TMC goons along with 4 workers at Rajganj while arranging the return of BJP workers who fled due to political violence. The injured have been rushed to North Bengal Medical College & Hospital. I wish them a speedy recovery,” Adhikari tweeted.

The attack on the BJP MP comes a month after TMC cadres had attacked BJP MP and Union minister V Muraleedharan’s convoy in Panchkhudi of West Midnapore. The BJP leader’s car was severely damaged in the attack.

Political Violence in West Bengal:

Following the West Bengal assembly elections, the political violence against BJP workers and supporters has continued unabated, despite a landslide victory by the ruling TMC. Several BJP workers are reported to have been brutally murdered in the post-poll violence that the state witnessed after the results of the state’s Vidhan Sabha was declared.

The BJP has alleged that the number of party workers killed since the announcement of poll results on May 2 is over two dozen. At least 24 such BJP workers have had to bear the brunt of believing in a political ideology and voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.

Besides unleashing political violence, the TMC goons have allegedly burnt down BJP party offices to ashes at various locations. Horrifying videos of women being attacked and assaulted by the TMC goons have surfaced on social media.
