‘Comedian’ Kunal Kamra equates Hindus belonging to SC, ST and OBC community to rats in his interview featuring Sanjay Raut

‘Comedian’ Kunal Kamra has landed himself in further trouble after a video clip from his interview with Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut emerged where the video equates Schedules Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs to rats. During the interview, a caricature is shown with Lal Krishna Advani as the Pied Piper leading rats marked as SCs, STs and OBCs through the tune of ‘Mandir Wahi Baneyenge’. The episode was uploaded to the Kamra’s YouTube channel on the 13th of November.

The depiction of Hindus who participated in the Ram Janmabhoomi Movement as rats earned the wrath of people on social media who slammed Kunal Kamra for the distasteful representation. They demanded to know whether Shiv Sena, the Congress party and the NCP agreed with the depiction of SCs, STs and OBCs as rats.

Throughout the interview, Kunal Kamra made an attempt to mock Sanjay Raut, with the Shiv Sena MP seemingly oblivious as the juxtaposing of the past comments made by the leader and others leaders of his party with the comments he was making during the interview was presumably done after the interview was recorded.

For instance, the comments made by Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut himself on Hindutva and the Constitution and religion in politics in the past was juxtaposed with the comments the Shiv Sena leader was making during the interview. Kunal Kamra also mocked the fact that the Shiv Sena was not allowing Temples to open in Maharashtra.

At another point in the video, Adolf Hitler is shown on screen giving a passionate speech with Prime Minister Modi’s voice in the background, in an attempt to peddle the narrative of ‘Modi is literally Hitler’. Sanjay Raut also hailed the Mumbai Police as the ‘best police’ while discussing the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

The Supreme Court is again shown in saffron colours with the BJP flag on it. It is pertinent to mention that a contempt of court proceedings has been initiated against Kunal Kamra for making such scandalous allegations against the apex court on his social media account on Twitter.

At the beginning of the same interview, Sanjay Raut and Kamra are seen holding a toy bulldozer as the Shiv Sena leader indirectly takes potshots at Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and boasts of the punitive action taken against her by the state administration for her remarks that were at odds with the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

At one point when Sanjay Raut says that his government has fed the address details and the bulldozer will automatically go to the designated address at the required time, a pop-up of google maps with the address of Republic Media Network appears on the screen.

The Jharkhand Government headed by CM Hemant Soren has banned Chhat Puja celebrations in water bodies apart from banning firecrackers as well. In a statement, the government said that the decision was taken in light of the Coronavirus pandemic as proper social distancing could not be ensured. It has also imposed various other restrictions in order to ensure that mass gatherings are prevented.

The government said in a statement, “The festival traditionally attracts huge congregations at Chhath Ghats. Due to the fixed timings of performing the aforementioned rituals, it is not possible to stagger these huge congregations to ensure social distancing.” “Therefore Chhath Puja in the waters of public pond/lakes/rivers/reservoirs/any other water body shall not be permitted so as to minimize the chances of spread of COVID-19 infection,” the statement added.

No stalls will be permitted to bet set up near the water bodies and restrictions have also been imposed on barricading and putting up special lighting by any individual on the ghats. Cultural programs have also been banned. The Chhat Puja spans over 4 days and is set to begin on the 18th of November.

Interestingly, however, Chief Minister Hemant Soren only recently participated at a public gathering flouting all social distancing norms. On the 9th of November, he offered a Chaddar at the Dargah of Hazrat Qutubuddin Risaldar Baba situated at Doranda, Ranchi. In the pictures and videos that are available, it is clear that all social distancing norms were violated and many of those present were not even wearing their masks properly.

There clearly appears to be two sets of Coronavirus rules, one for the ruling class and the other for the masses. While the government in its statement banning Chhat Puja emphasised on ‘2 gaz ki doori’, the head of government in the state Hemant Soren was himself flouting the norms his own government advocates for the masses.

Later, Hemant Soren told the media that he sought peace and prosperity for his state and also sought ‘dua’ to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in Jharkhand. As per reports, not only Hemant Soren, but Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh was present on the occasion as well. The Public Relations Department of Jharkhand Government shared pictures of the occasion on its social media account.

There is clearly a double standard here that cannot be ignored. While mass gatherings in public ought to be avoided during a pandemic, it appears that the Jharkhand government encourages one set of festivities while banning others.

After a closely fought Legislative Assembly elections in the state Janata Dal (United) chief, Nitish Kumar has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth straight term on November 16 (Monday). His new deputies, BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi were among those who took oath today at the event.

The two BJP MLAs have replaced Sushil Modi as Nitish Kumar’s deputies. On Sunday, Sushil Modi said Tarkishore Prasad was unanimously elected as the leader of BJP legislature party in Bihar. “The BJP and the Sangh Parivar gave me so much in the political life of 40 years. I will discharge the responsibility that will be given to me. No one can take away the post of the party worker,” he wrote on Twitter. He also congratulated Bettiah MLA Renu Devi on being elected as deputy leader of BJP legislature part.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister and Deputy CMs were administered the oath of office at the Raj Bhavan. Earlier Gandhi Maidan was chosen for a grand swearing-in event. While BJP top brass including HM Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the party’s state in-charge Bhupendra Yadav, election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis, Union minister Nityanand Rai and state party chief Sanjay Jaiswal attended the oath-taking ceremony, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav skipped the ceremony held at Patna today.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners which met on Sunday at the CM’s official residence, chose Nitish Kumar as the next chief minister of Bihar. The BJP had from the beginning maintained that Nitish Kumar would continue as the CM of the state if their alliance comes to power in the state.

“After the ceremony, the cabinet will decide when the House will convene,” Nitish Kumar told reporters yesterday. “Bihar people have given this opportunity so there is more development.. there should be no inadequacy,” Mr Kumar added.

NDA Government led by Nitish Kumar retains power in Bihar

In a tightly fought recently-concluded election in Bihar, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, comprising BJP and Janata Dal (United), retained power in the state by securing a simple majority of 125 seats in the 243-member state Assembly. The steller performance of the BJP enabled the return of Nitish Kumar’s government in the state. While BJP which had contested 110 seats won 74, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) managed to bag only 43 seats out of the 115 seats it contested, which were 28 seats lesser than the 71 it won in the 2015 Assembly election. 

Congress turned out to be a shackle for the Mahagathbandhan: RJD leader

The opposition coalition, led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and also comprising Congress and Left parties managed to bag 110 Assembly seats. Shivanand Tiwari, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) hit out at the top leadership of the Congress party, with whom it fought the elections as part of the grand alliance in the state, on Sunday, calling it a “shackle” for the alliance. Hitting out at the brother-sister duo, the RJD minister expressed disappointment that Priyanka and Rahul were having a picnic in Shimla during the Bihar polls.

Not only RJD but Congress leader Kapil Sibal also hit out at his own party top brass over the poor show by the Congress in the Bihar assembly elections.

Karnataka: 21-year-old man arrested for raping and killing his mother

The Shiggavi police in Karnataka have arrested a 21-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly raping and murdering his own mother at Vanahalli village in Karnataka’s Haveri district. Identified as Shivappa, the man has confessed to the crime.

Accused was not happy with the mother’s affairs

As per the police report, the murdered woman had lost her husband last year. After that, she made sexual relationships with her son Shivappa and a few other men. Shivappa was not happy with the arrangement and wanted her mother to be involved with nobody else but him. He asked her to cut ties with other men. Later, Shivappa found out that his mother continued the relationships with other men.

On November 13, Shivappa got intoxicated and made his mother to drink alcohol. After that, he asked her mother to go with him on the pretext of going to a relative’s place. Shivappa stopped the car in a deserted area where he raped and murdered his mother. He has been booked under Section 302 (murder) and 367 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

Bengal: 14-year-old Hindu girl abducted, raped and forced to read nikahnama by Sohidul Rahman, rescued from Gujarat

A minor Hindu girl from West Bengal was abducted nearly a month ago by a married man named Sohidul Rahman, much older to her, was rescued from Gujarat this week. The abducted girl has revealed that her captor had forced her to read namaz and Quran during her captivity.

In her report, Swarajya Magazine’s Swati Goel Sharma has written that she has obtained an audio recording of a conversation between the girl and a counsellor from a non-government organisation that helped in the rescue. According to Sharma, the girl is heard saying in the audiotape that the man, Sohidul Rehman who kidnapped her, had coerced her to read namaz and recite ayats from the Quran in Arabic.

Muslim captor forced the 14-year-old Hindu girl to read nikahnama

The 14-year-old Hindu girl, who is a native of Hamirpur village in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal said that though they did not visit a mosque for an official nikah ceremony, the captor Sohidul Rehman brought a man home and, in his presence, read the nikahnama and made her to do the same. Following the ceremony, Rehman told her that he is her husband from now on and repreatedly forced himself on her.

The girl had gone missing on October 6 after which a first information report(FIR) was registered the following day at Jibantala police station under relevant IPC sections pertaining to kidnapping and procuration of a minor girl. When a New Delhi based non-government organisation named Mission Mukti Foundation learned about the abduction, they intervened and took up the case with the senior officials of the Bengal police.

NGO asked NCPCR to intervene in the case

After the girl went missing on 6 October, a first information report (FIR) was registered the next day at Jibantala police station (number 456/2020) under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366A (procuration of minor girl).

With the police help, the NGO got the tracked down the location of Rehman to Gujarat. However, the details were not sufficient since they did not have the tower location. As the days were passing, so was the fear and possibility that Rehman would have shifted his location to another state. The NGO then sought help from the New Delhi-based National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Commission.

Girl kidnapped in Bengal was rescued from Gujarat’s Rajkot

On NCPCR’s intervention, the case was taken up by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit(AHTU) of West Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department(CID). On November 11, over a month after the minor Hindu girl’s abduction, the AHTU homed in on the current location of Rehman. The team immediately left Bengal to the other side of the country, in Gujarat’s Rajkot district for rescuing the girl.

Rehman, 28, double the age of the minor girl whom he kidnapped, was arrested on the charges of kidnapping. As per Swati’s report, if the girl affirms that she was subjected to sexual assault and the same is confirmed in her medical reports, Rehamn would be additionally booked under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

According to an official from NCPCR, who did not wish to be named, the girl had reportedly expressed her desire to be returned to her family when her captor Rehman told her that he is already married and has a wife in Bengal. The girl is currently in the custody of the Bengal CID and is likely to return to her parents this week.

As per the child commission officials, Rehman used to talk to the girl’s aunt over the phone. One day, the girl accidentally picked up the phone, instead of her aunt. Rehman talked to her and told her the specific time he would be calling her next. The two started talking to each other frequently and a few weeks ago, Rehman proposed to marry her.

As per reports, on Diwali, a Shivling has been unearthed at Goramati village playground in Bhadrak district, Odisha. An excavation was underway for a park project at an open field when the tractor engaged in the project hit a rock and got damaged.

When the workers tried to unearth the rock, it turned out to be a Shivling. Several other artifacts were also found at the site. The workers immediately informed the Sarpanch and locals about the find. 

Locals rushed to offer prayers

After the information about the Shivling reached the nearby villages quickly, the locals reached the spot in large number and offered prayers to the Shivling. Though it looks like an old Shivling, experts have not tested it to determine its age. The locals believe that finding Shivling on Amavasya is auspicious. As per Orissa Post, some villagers said, “Yesterday was Amavasya or new moon day. A Shivling and a statue discovered on such an auspicious day mean nothing but the blessing of the lord.”

Govt mulling forming guidelines for digital news and OTT platforms informs union minister Prakash Javadekar on National Press Day

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar while extending his greetings to the media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day, spoke on how freedom of the press is the soul of our Democracy. Addressing a webinar on National Press Day organised by Press Council of India, Javadekar reiterated that Press freedom is the soul of democracy and any attack on it is highly condemnable.

Indirectly speaking on the malicious attack on journalists at the behest of the Maharashtra government recently, Javadekar said that after so many years of Independence, the incidents remind him of the Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency. On June 25, 1975, Congress leader and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared an Emergency in India and used her power to stifle independent media.

Javadekar, however, said that Press freedom should be responsible freedom. It is the duty of media to practice responsible freedom and if the government trusts on media, they must set an example too, said the minister.

He furthered that amid the recent TRP controversy, Centre has constituted a four-member committee to make “recommendations for a robust, transparent and accountable ratings system (for television) in India”. The committee will be submitting its report with suggestions in two months, said Javadekar.

He said that though print media and television channels have self-regulatory bodies to regulate the content, they can only be governed if they are part of such bodies. For channels that are not members of these self-governing bodies, they virtually are bound by no self-regulation. Saying so, the Information and Broadcasting Minister announced that the government is mulling over suggestions it has received that a common code of conduct should be constituted. Similar code of conduct or guidelines for self-regulation can be brought in for OTT and other digital news platforms too.

OTT platforms brought under the control of I&B ministry

The Central Government had issued an order on November 11 (Wednesday), bringing digital and online media, audio-visual programs, films, current affairs, and news portals under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Currently, online news and current affairs portals, OTT (over the top) platforms including Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar, SonyLiv, AltBalaji, etc are not under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Several complaints against the content on such platforms were alleging they are spreading misinformation and fake news as there was no law or autonomous body to govern the digital content. There were also demands of censorship for shows aired by the OTT platforms, and there have been several complaints against such shows alleging hurting religious sentiments and other allegations.

These are suggestions that are being mulled over, said the minister furthering that though the government doesn’t want to interfere, there are genuine issues which need to be tackled. Based on these issues, the government has been getting requests that a common code of conduct or guideline be introduced, said Javedkar, highlighting the problem of “fake news” as the biggest crisis faced by the media fraternity today.

“BJP raped the people’s mandate in Bihar. This is not the government chosen by the people,” Singh said.

He further claimed that this is an illegitimate government. “This is stealing the mandate of people. In fact, I will go further and say that they raped the mandate of Bihar. Nitish Kumar, who sits in the lap of BJP, is the offspring of BJP which has raped the entire population of Bihar and those who voted,” he added.

Swearing-in ceremony of Bihar’s new cabinet at 4 PM today

14 people along with the Chief Minister of Bihar are slated to take oath today at 4 PM. According to the sources, there will be 2 deputy chief ministerial posts, 5 ministers from BJP and one each from the VIP and HAM will be inducted in the new state cabinet. JDU chief Nitish Kumar is set to return as the state’s chief minister while Renu Devi & Tarkishore Prasad are likely to take oath as the deputy chief ministers.

The recently concluded Bihar elections saw a close tussle between the Mahagathbandhan alliance and NDA alliance. However, as the election result drew to an end, the BJP and JDU’s NDA alliance secured more than 122-seats required to form a government in the 243-assembly seats.

NDA alliance won Bihar elections in a close fight

RJD emerged as the single-largest party by racking up 75 seats. RJD was closely followed by the BJP which won 74 seats. However, the Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party was letdown by India’s oldest political party, Congress, that failed to dazzle the voters yet again and which was reflected in its poor performance in the Bihar elections. The party fought only on 70 seats and managed to bag only 19 seats.

Since the results are out, it has become difficult for the RJD leaders to digest the defeat. As a result, many of them have openly criticised the alliance with the Congress that has clearly led them to defeat. Senior RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari has voiced what many political analysts have been speaking about since the Bihar election results, that the Congress is becoming a burden on its allies.

While some RJD leaders have resorted to blaming and criticising Congress for their loss, others like RJD President Jagada Nand Singh have taken to making abominable references to rape to discredit the victors.

Egypt unearths over 100 ancient coffins from Saqqara’s 2500-year-old burial site

Archaeologists in Egypt are having exciting days as they have unearthed more than a hundred ancient coffins. Some of these coffins at the ancient burial ground of Saqqara have mummies inside. They have found 40 funeral statues along with funeral masks, canopic jars, and amulets. It is the largest find at the site in 2020.

According to Khaled el-Enany, the Egyptian minister of tourism and antiquities, the mummies in the coffins date back around 2,500 years, and they are in perfect condition of preservation. As the coffins are of high quality, experts believe it was the burial ground for the wealthiest citizens. He informed in a presser that the items date back to the Ptolemaic dynasty that ruled Egypt for some 300 years from about 320BC to about 30BC, and the Late Period (664-332BC )

Zahi Hawass, an Egyptologist, talked to Egypt Today magazine about the discovery and said, “This discovery is significant because it proves that Saqqara was the main burial ground of the 26th Dynasty.” He further said that the mummies are from mid 600 BC to 525 BC, enhancing the present knowledge of mummification in that period.

The first opened coffin had an approx 40-year-old man

On Saturday, experts opened the first coffin from the find and scanned the mummy with a portable X-Ray machine. They determined that the person buried in the coffin was probably a man of approx 40 years of age.

About Saqqara

Saqqara is a city located 20 miles south of Cairo. It has been a popular source of significant archaeological finds as it is a large necropolis (designed cemetery) for the Old Kingdom capital of Memphis. It was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in the 1970s. There are over a dozen burial sites in the region, including the Step Pyramid of King Djoser that is the first known burial pyramid. Experts believe that they will discover more coffins and antiquities on the site, including an ancient workshop used to prepare bodies for mummification.

Pakistan: Islamist political party laments govt crackdown on Namazis protesting against France instead of ‘fighting Hindus’

The situation is tense in Pakistan yet again as hundreds and thousands of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) supporters descended on the streets of Rawalpindi in protest against French President Emmanuel Macron for defending people’s right to draw cartoons of prophet Muhammad. The protesters had taken to the streets after Khadim Hussain Rizvi gave the call for a demonstration against ‘blasphemy’ in France.

The demonstration began on Sunday and continued on Monday. Slogans such as ‘Gustakh-e-Rasool ki ek hi sazaa, Sar tan se Juda, Sar tan se Juda’ (Only one punishment for blasphemy against the prophet, separation of head from the body) were raised by the unruly mob.

Clashes were reported between the Police and the protesters armed with sticks on Monday. “Heavy teargas shelling also affected residents of the adjoining areas with many complaining of difficulty in breathing,” one local resident was quoted as saying by Dawn. Dozens of police officials and |TLP Islamists were injured during the clashes and shifted to hospitals.

Videos of the clashes and protests are all over social media. TLP is calling it the ‘worst shelling’ on the ‘lovers of the prophet’ and in history.

TLP is also releasing videos where Muslims are saying that the ‘Badmash’ (naughty) Imran Khan government is instigating the ‘Kalma’ reading forces against the ‘Kalma’ reading Muslims of Rawalpindi when Muslims of Srinagar and Kashmir are hoping that these same forces will rescue them. He also lamented the fact that the Pakistani forces are taking action against Namazis instead of “fighting Hindus”.

The man in the video lamented the fact that they are being punished ‘only for saying that the punishment for blasphemy is beheading’.

The TLP is also saying that the guns should be pointed at the French instead of Muslims of Rawalpindi.

Smoke can also be seen billowing in the air in other videos that have been shared by TLP.

The protesters are demanding that the French embassy be shut down in the country and all diplomatic ties be snapped with France for the crime of blasphemy. The protesters are attempting to reach the Faizabad interchange that connects Rawalpindi with Islamabad and shut it down.

Meanwhile, ‘millennial feminist journalist’ Gharidah Farooqui ranted on social media, “Where is the government? Where is the state and its writ and power? A few thousand extremists, miscreants, opponents of the law have been making the lives of millions of law-abiding citizens of Islamabad-Pindi miserable for two days. The state is just watching a spectacle. Shame on you. Formerly contractors of Islam, now contractors of foreign policy.”
