Sushant Singh death case: Chats of house manager Dipesh Sawant make suicide claims suspicious, say reports

Since the day Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment, insiders and outsiders have tried to project it to be a case of death by suicide. His house manager Dipesh Sawant, who was among the 4 people who were present at Sushant Singh Rajput’s Bandra apartment on June 14- the day the actor was found dead in his bedroom, had also testified that the actor died by suicide.

Well, bringing a fresh new twist in Sushant’s death probe, Dipesh’s WhatsApp message to Sushant’s friend Kushal Zaveri on the morning of June 14 has now surfaced online, as reported by Republic TV. The testimonies and the Whatsapp chats accessed, somehow, do not add up.

As per the Republic report, Dipesh had messaged at 10:51 AM, just a few hours before Sushant passed away, in which he wrote to Kushal Zaveri: “SSR asked me to get in touch with you regarding the Flipkart”. This Whatsapp message, sent hours before the actor’s death punctures Cook Neeraj’s version that they (all the four present in the house at the time of the actor’s death) were frantically knocking on Sushant’s locked door at 10:30 am.

Kushal Zaveri reportedly happened to see the message only in the afternoon. However, by then, the news of Sushant’s demise was already all over media. Therefore, Kushal’s replies at 2:48 pm: “Bhai is safe no…Please reply Yes or No.” and then at 3: 34 pm: “Bhai we are outside, let me know if you need any help. Bhai ko koi help chahiye toh phone karna (Call me if you need any help). We will be there in 5 minutes”, seemed like it was more out of concern.

The report claims that a ‘depressed’ person about to commit suicide, as has been projected by many Bollywood personalities including Rhea Chakraborty, is unlikely to inquire about some financial deals.

Another Whatsapp chat dated June 9 between Sushant and Kushal Zaveri has also been accessed, which revealed that the e-commerce giant had got in touch with Sushant’s close friend because they were scouting for a brand endorsement deal and Sushant Singh Rajput was one of those they wanted talks with.

Since day one, all the four, namely, Dipesh Sawant, Siddharth Pithani, Neeraj Singh and Keshav, who were present in the flat when Sushant died have asserted that they were extremely worried about Sushant Singh Rajput not opening the bedroom door on June 14 morning. They had claimed how they had to call the key-maker to break open the door and how shaken they were to find the actor dead.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away

0

Former President Pranab Mukherjee today passed away. He was admitted to Delhi hospital for a brain surgery after which he was put on ventilator. However, his condition remained critical. He had also tested positive for Chinese coronavirus while in hospital. He has now passed away.

His son Abhijit Mukherjee took to Twitter to share the sad news.

Former Congress leader, Pranab Mukherjee served as President of India from 2012 to 2017. During the course of his long political career, he earned himself the reputation of being an able negotiator and was considered a trusted lieutenant of the party to solve problems of significant import. He was respected across the aisle for his personality and political acumen.

Pranab Mukherjee has been the Union Minister for Defence, External Affairs, Finance, Commerce, Industrial Development and Shipping and Transport. Following his retirement from politics, he was invited to an RSS event at the organisation’s headquarters in Nagpur, which he did attend much to the consternation of his own party.

Prashant Bhushan quoted Gandhi in his statement to the court, but Gandhi had refused to pay a fine, unlike Bhushan

Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan has welcomed the punishment delivered to him by the Supreme Court and proceeded to announce that his counsel advocate Rajeev Dhawan had paid the amount of Rupees One immediately that the Court had set as a penalty. The ‘PIL Activist’ said that he ‘gracefully’ accepted the punishment.

The Supreme Court had asked Prashant Bhushan to pay the penalty of Re 1 for being guilty of contempt of court or face three months of jail time and suspension of his law practice in the apex court for 3 years. It has to be noted that paying the penalty is an acceptance of the Court’s verdict that he is guilty.

Earlier, however, Prashant Bhushan had vowed to not accept the Court’s verdict and refused to tender an apology for his contemptuous tweets against Chief Justice S.A.Bobde. His supporters had gone to the extent of comparing him to Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. While he asked his supporters to not make such comparisons, it was quite evident that he enjoyed the comparisons immensely and was trying hard to fill their boots.

While Prashant Bhushan said on Twitter that he refused to be compared to Gandhiji and Mandela, claiming that such comparison is misplaced and that he had done nothing compared to what the two great men did. Later, he shared an article on how Gandhiji too had refused to offer an apology and decided to face the contempt the proceeding.

In his submission to the Court, Prashant Bhushan had said that “offering an insincere apology would amount to a contempt of his conscience and of an institution that he holds in the highest esteem”. He claimed that his tweets were the “discharge of highest duty” and that his tweets were expressed in “good faith”.

As it so happens, despite the valiant efforts to fill the boots of the iconic gentlemen, he caved in spectacularly and bowed down to the mandate of the Judiciary. This is in stark contrast to the conduct of Mahatma Gandhi on one particular occasion. During his visit to Champaran in 1917, he was served a notice by the Magistrate demanding that he leave Champaran as his presence could cause ‘public unrest’.

“Gandhiji appeared before the magistrate at Motihari district court on April 18, 1917. In a brief statement, he said he has come to Champaran on invitation from farmers, who had urged that they were not being treated fairly by British indigo planters,” Shobhakant Choudhary, a sociology professor at MS College, Motihari, said recalling the episode.

Mahatama Gandhi was asked to pay a security bond of Rs. 100 which he refused to pay. Subsequently, the case was withdrawn by the British Government. The people cheered him and hailed his demonstration of resistance. His conduct is in stark contrast to that of Prashant Bhushan who was only over willing to pay the amount that was asked of him.

Despite his public display of bravado Prashant Bhushan, in the end, decided to accept the Court’s verdict in order to avoid actual punishment for his conduct. Thus, it only goes on to show that while his words demonstrate a willingness to make personal sacrifices due to his great commitment to truth, his actions speak otherwise.

ISIS terrorist Abu Yusuf wanted to bomb Karol Bagh in Delhi: Reports

In a shocking revelation on Monday, ISIS terrorist Abu Yusuf has reportedly confessed to the Delhi Police Special Cell about his plans to execute a massive bomb blast at Karol Bagh in Delhi, as per reports.

The ISIS terrorist had done a recce of the area, prior to advancing with his nefarious plans. Abu Yusuf has revealed that he wanted to bomb a crowded place in the National Capital.

The ISIS terrorist was nabbed from the Ridge Road between Karol Bagh and Dhaula Kuan in Delhi on August 21 night after a brief exchange of fire between the terrorist and the police personnel. The Delhi police had recovered 15 kg of explosives, two pressure-cooker IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), and a pistol from the Yusuf. Reportedly, the cops had received inputs about Yusuf from Central Intelligence authorities.

Abu Yusuf was collecting bomb making materials from several years

During the initial interrogation, Abu Yusuf, the ISIS terrorist nabbed by Delhi police on August 22, had said that he was planning a major terror attack as a retaliation to the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The mother of the terrorist has, however, negated this claim, saying that his terrorist activities had nothing to do with the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan.

Abu Yusuf was radicalised in 2010

Kahkaksha, the mother of Abu Yusuf, said that Yusuf used to watch bomb-making videos on Youtube for hours and was inspired by these videos, Yusuf was collecting materials to make the explosives for the last three years. The terrorist’s mother said that for very long she was unaware of her son’s dangerous motives. It was only revealed when Yusuf returned from Saudi Arabia in 2010. He was completely radicalised and had converted into a hardliner when he returned. Because of his fanaticism, the villagers started distancing themselves from Abu Yusuf and his family, divulged Kahkaksha.

The Left attacks Facebook’s Ankhi Das for personal political preference but justifies when Twitter and Google actively discriminates against the non-Left

The liberal brigade is up in arms against Ankhi Das of Facebook again for her alleged bias in favour of the ruling dispensation. After accusations were levelled against her in previous weeks accusing her of allowing hate content to remain on the platform, the mainstream media appears to have found new gossip with which to tarnish her image. Ankhi Das is Facebook’s policy director for India and South and Central Asia.

New allegations, again raised by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), claim that between 2012 and 2014, Ankhi Das engaged in behaviour that according to Facebook staffers betrayed the platform’s commitment to neutrality on politics. In one of the internal messages, the executive is claimed to have written, “We lit a fire to his social media campaign and the rest is of course history.”

Ankhi Das apparently made other comments disparaging the Congress party. Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said that the posts had been taken out of context and appears to defend their executive. He said, “These posts are taken out of context and don’t represent the full scope of Facebook’s efforts to support the use of our platform by parties across the Indian political spectrum.”

The rest of the report by WSJ is a series of insinuations and allegations without any evidence that Ankhi Das engaged in any unethical behaviour that affected election outcomes. It’s important to understand here that Facebook has been targeted by left-wing hate mobs, which includes the media establishment, after CEO Mark Zuckerberg refused to censor US President Donald Trump on the platform like his Twitter counterpart.

Media and the Left do not really have a problem with political bias

It is important to understand here that the media and the Left is seeking to punish Facebook because the platform has resisted caving to them entirely. They do not have a problem with political bias per se, they only have a problem when a platform is either neutral or appears to be biased against their stated objectives.

For instance, Raheel Khursheed, who once happened to be the head of Twitter India for news and politics, was quite openly biased against Prime Minister Modi. Khursheed accused Narendra Modi of committing a ‘Muslim massacre’ without any evidence.

The original tweet appears to have been deleted by Raheel Khursheed

Raheel Khursheed also mocked a 15-year old for challenging controversial communist leader Kanhaiya Kumar to a debate. He had joined in with other left-oriented media personalities to bully the teenager for political opinions they did not agree with. During his time with Twitter, and even since he left them, Twitter has been selectively targeting non-Left accounts on the platform. The Left does not have any problem when Twitter India demonstrates ostensible bias against a political party.

Twitter blatantly engages in political partisanship

Twitter has engaged in blatant political partisanship against politicians they do not agree with and in favour of political ideas that are popular among the Left. For instance, in the US, Twitter is quite openly engaging in election interference by selectively censoring Donald Trump, sometimes for entirely dubious reasons.

Twitter censored one tweet of Donald Trump because he promised to enforce law and order amidst rising anarchy on the streets of the US. On another occasion, his tweet was censored because he pointed towards voter-fraud committed through mail-in ballots, a phenomenon that is indeed real despite denial by the Leftist establishment.

The Left does not have any issues with any of it. In fact, the social media platform’s refusal to act would have been considered evidence of their unethical relationship with the Trump administration. In India, CEO Jack Dorsey raised a placard that said ‘Smash Brahminical Patriarchy, a slogan of the delusional and malicious Left, which again is an open demonstration of his political loyalties.

Google engages in political partisanship too

Google is known to work against conservative political opinions as well. Following Donald Trump’s election as the President of the United States of America, leaked videos of internal meetings revealed that its employees were engaging in apocalyptic sermons because a candidate they did not like was voted to power by Americans.

In recent times, Google has chosen to act against rightwing platforms such as Breitbart and The federalist for entirely arbitrary reasons that betray political partisanship. Again, all of this was cheered on by the Left and seen as righteous action against political enemies.

Why target Ankhi Das?

The concerted campaign against Ankhi Das is part of the media’s larger agenda against Facebook. When Mark Zuckerberg came forward and criticised Twitter for its decision to censor Donald Trump and refused to do so himself, he ensured a concerted campaign against himself by the henchmen of the Left establishment.

It ought to be remembered that the Left establishment has not been able to provide any good evidence of professional misconduct on part of Ankhi Das. Personal preference for particular political parties is not grounds for action against the employee or the employers. However, it is precisely what the Left seeks through its concerted campaign of character assassination.

When Twitter and Google engages in worse behaviour and actively discriminates against particular political factions as an institution, the Left actively defends it as they see it as justified action against political enemies. Consistent with this approach, they wish to make Facebook bend to its will through media-generated controversies that are all smoke and no fire.

Until Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg cower before the Left and profusely seek their apology and attempt to pacify them with harsh crackdown on non-Left voices, the media and the Leftist establishment will continue to target the social media platform and its employees in its efforts to gain greater hold over it.

India finds a silver lining in coronavirus pandemic as ‘Education Television’ becomes a thing

When the lockdown was first announced in March 2020, no one thought the crisis would continue even in September. As we are moving towards Unlock 4.0 with a hope that school and colleges will soon open, there is no denying that union and state governments have managed to deliver lessons to the country’s remotest parts using television.

When the lockdown happened for the first time, government, public and private schools eventually felt the need for online classes. It was more comfortable for the private schools to ask students to buy gadgets to attend online classes. On the other hand, asking the same to the students from lower-income families would not have been apt for the government schools. At that time, Doordarshan and Swayam Prabha came to the rescue.

The history of “Education Television” in India

The concept of Educational Television is not new in India. It dates back to 1975 when Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) started transmitting programs to the special satellite-linked TV sets installed in a few villages and towns. Under the program, the common man got access to a range of television programs in different categories, including environment, agriculture and school education. Entertainment was also an important part of the TV programs since the beginning.

Though the response to the set of educational programs was enthusiastic, lack of funding combined with irregular power transmission and lack of proper equipment or trained staff resulted in shelving the project by the end of 1976. TV started to gain popularity among the masses, and eventually, in 1987-88, it reached the peak of popularity at that time due to the telecast of Ramayan serial.

At that time, the demand for education programs rose again. Educational Media Research Centre (EMRC) telecasted educational programs between 1 PM to 2 PM. The programs mainly targeted college students and covered several subjects. These programs were not only loved by the students at home, schools and colleges also held special sessions on their premises where students can watch the programs. Some institutes started to run the programs during break time.

Gyan Darshan channel

Gran Darshan is a joint venture of the Ministry of Education (Previously named as Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B Ministry) Prasar Bharti, and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The 24-hour educational channel was launched in 2000. The programs on the channels cater to the needs of pre-school, primary, secondary and higher secondary students, college or university students, youth seeking career opportunities, homemakers and working professionals.

Gyan Darshan channels were telecasted as must-include channels in DTH services, but they were discontinued when the migration from INSAT 3C to GSAT-10 happened in 2014. Later in 2016, Doordarshan and IGNOU signed an agreement to telecast four Gyan Darshan channels. Webcast of Gyan Darshan channel is also available on IGNOU’s website.

Doordarshan not only has channels for school and college students, but DD Kisan is also among the most popular channels for information related to agriculture.

SWAYAM Prabha

Launched on 10th July 2017, SWAYAM Prabha is a Ministry of Education initiative that provides 32 high-quality educational channels via Direct to Home (DTH) services 24×7. The course content of the programs covers diverse disciplines of distance education. The main aim of these channels is to provide quality learning resources across the country’s length and breadth. Though online classes are happening in every corner of the country, some remote areas do not have access to the high speed or even 2G internet.

Every day SWAYAM Prabha Channels broadcast new content for at least four hours. The rest of the day, they repeat the previous programs to watch the program as per their convenience.  The content on these channels is provided in association with NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT and NIOS.

SWAYAM Prabha channels cover content in various disciplines, including arts, science, commerce, performing arts, humanities, technology, engineering, medicine, agriculture, law, social sciences and more for under-graduate and post-graduate levels. For school education, 9-12 levels of teaching and learning aids for children are available on these channels to better understand the subject. There are specific programs that are aimed to help students on 11-12 levels for competitive examinations.

It should be noted that in the month of May when the Ministry of Finance announced packages for Atmanirbhar Bharat, a special package for 12 new channels were announced to cater to the need of the students. You can access the content of the channels on mobile devices using SWAYAM Prabha app or Jio TV app.

NECRT Official

While the governments are working extensively to create interactive educational content for the students, The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) regularly uploaded educational content that it creates for SWAYAM Prabha on their YouTube channel under the e-pathshala program. The same content premiers on DTH-TV Channel #31.

The state-specific education channels

Doordarshan has regional channels such as DD Uttar Pradesh, DD Chandana (Karnataka), and DD Bihar, among others, that beam educational programs for the children. Some of the channels stream the programs live on YouTube as well so that the students can see them any number of times as per their convenience. These channels are just indictive, and other states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Punjab are doing exceptionally well in providing television-based education to the students.

The future of educational television in India

Though there is always a scope of improving the programs’ quality, the central and state governments’ initiative to provide education using television has made it possible for the students to continue their education amid coronavirus pandemic. The schools and colleges will take time to open. Also, no matter how much you try, it is not always possible to clear all the doubts about different subjects in school. Even if the schools and colleges resume, these channels will go a long way in improving students’ knowledge of different subjects.

The government can add more channels and programs by roping in teachers and educational institutes from both government and private sectors in later stages. In short, the field of Education Television is limitless. Though the history of Education Television goes back to the 1970s in India, the sector’s true potential is still hidden under the pressure of snail-speed babu-dom. Hopefully, the Ministry of Education and state governments will keep on working on improving the Education Television channels and bring more interactive content for the students.

His last message before he jumped from the 11th-floor and died was ‘I love you, papa’: Manav’s father opens up

On the 4th of May, 2020, the life of one family in upscale Gurugram came to a screeching halt. A 17-year-old boy, Manav, jumped from the 11th floor of his apartment building, landing on the road below and ultimately, losing his life. In the matter of just one hour, Manav’s life had turned upside down and he decided to end his life, to shield himself and his parents from the troubled path that lay ahead.

At that time, the Bois Locker Room controversy was just about gaining steam. An Instagram group had been outed by a girl, where a bunch of teenage boys were seemingly discussing women, sharing their explicit photographs and discussing how the gang-rape them. Though it was later found that the chat about ‘gang-rape‘ was initiated by a girl who was trying to “test” the boys, at the time, a raging discussion had erupted about the conduct of up-scale boys and the lack of respect for women and their privacy.

Amidst the controversy, a teenage girl took to Instagram and narrated a story about how she was allegedly raped over 2 years ago by a boy named Manav. In her post, she explicitly shielded herself by adding a disclaimer – ‘I don’t have any proof’.

Women often don’t have proof when they are sexually assaulted, however, this case was different. Once the story was uploaded on Instagram, immediately, several people connected the story to the Bois Locker Room controversy. As is our society, and several times, rightly so, the girl was instantly believed and the boy was instantly declared a rapist. In the one hour that followed, threats were made to the boy, he was vilified, branded, insulted, abused. The pressure and the prospect of a life of shame were too much for Manav to accept. Within just an hour of the post going viral, Manav plunged to his death.

After his death, his friends took to Instagram to talk about his side of the story – He was not a rapist and he did not deserve to die, they said.

In one such post his cousin, Rishi, wrote that Manav received threat calls and messages after the girl’s story went viral on social media. He said that Manav tried to defend himself in front of the girl and her friends who had accused him. He tried to convince them that he was innocent but he couldn’t handle the constant threats and believed that his side of the story would not be heard.

Rishi said that Manav was not involved in the Bois Locker Room controversy, and that was true. His name simply got clubbed because the controversy was raging at the time. Further, after his suicide, an insensitive post was made by the girl who had accused him. She said that if he could not “take the pressure”, then it was not her problem. Rishi said that this showed she had no remorse about her alleged lies.

The parents lodged a complaint with the police and their inaction at the time distressed them. After the death of Manav, the police had gone to the extent of alleging that Manav had a ‘poor character’. Manav’s father, while talking to OpIndia was dismayed at the statement.

“This absurd claim was made by parents of one of the girls to the police. It was made after the 4th of May, once Manav was cyber murdered. The parents of the girl, who made this claim was also involved in naming, shaming, bullying, harassing, trolling Manav – all of which led him to take his life. They forced him to take the extreme step of taking one’s life, a life which a 17-year-old Manav loved so much. Of course, the Police at the behest of the parents and their encouragement fanned this narrative, without even making an enquiry. After all, the girl’s parents assumed that slander is the best means of offence, as they have ZERO defence in support of the crude & obnoxious posts made by their wards”, said Manav’s father.

Manav’s father said that he was a boy who was ambitious and enterprising. He had even started a small business where he would buy wrist bands in wholesale and retail to his friends. He would tell his friends the cost at which he had purchased the wrist band and his retail price. According to Mr Manoj Kumar, this showed that he was an honest person. He was also not someone who used to check his phone very often. “Once in the morning, or evening and before he went to sleep, perhaps”, he said.

For a parent, the loss of a child is perhaps the greatest loss one can suffer and when the parent feels that the police is not taking adequate steps to ensure the culprits are brought to book, the agony is far greater.

He said:

In the first 10 days, the Police absolutely took no actions, in fact, they were shielding the accused for reasons best known to them. These are not my words but of Gurgaonites, which have been articulated by the Hon. Magistrate of Gurgaon Court as well. Even when the FIR was lodged, it was done in the name of unknown persons, whereas we had named the first accused by name and mentioned Instagram as a party. This was perhaps done to leave an escape window for the culprits, as they were using all the influence and power they could muster. They are extremely rich, resourceful and just like their daughters, with scant respect for propriety, law and order.

When the Police went to meet the first accused the first time, they were told that the girl had gone to Punjab. This was on 6th/7th May when there was lockdown in full force. So who arranged passes for them? Did they go to Punjab or their parents gave a false statement to police and lied to protect their criminal girls and tutor them on what to say, if the Police question them? They had the first week to prepare their story, get lawyers, and take care of the system…if you know what I mean. They tried all the tricks (fair & unfair) to ensure that an FIR is not registered and completely derail justice.

Mr Kumar not only alleged conspiracy to shield the culprits, but also said that the girls themselves had hatched a conspiracy to ensure they target Manav. He alleged that the girls had hatched a conspiracy to murder his son.

“The Grisly Gurgaon Girls Gang – 4Gs – which had about more than 10-12 odd girls cheering the prime accused as they went about torturing Manav with their false and fake accusations, all the while maintaining that they have no proof. The 17+-year-old girls, who are only technically minors, but otherwise fully mature, well educated and sure about their intentions picked up Manav from amongst a list of potential boys they could target”, he says.

He adds, “She talks of an instance which occurred 2 ½ years back when Manav was less than 15 years old. It’s a fake, contrived and imaginative slander, as you know no one can enter a condominium in Gurgaon unless a resident approves. There is a 2 level check. Then she claims that Manav molested her in the basement. Were there no CCTV cameras? Could she not raise her voice? At 14-15, if you look at her photographs she is far better built than Manav. Why did she come back a second time if what she claimed is true? Okay, she goes home and doesn’t tell her mother, parents or any of her friends? She lives a normal life and on 4th May decides to cook up this story, just to get a bit popular, get sympathy and get the support of feminists and play a victim. She lied about what happened”.

Manav at 14-15 years old. Around the time the girl said he “raped” her.

After all of this, when Mr Manoj Kumar initially approached the police, he was told that they cannot investigate this case aggressively because “there are girls involved”. “What if the girls take a drastic step because of the investigation?”, Mr Kumar says the police asked him repeatedly. While talking to OpIndia, Mr Kumar said that the police made him feel like the culprit who was trying to harm the girls, rather than the victim who had been harmed by the girls.

“The society as a whole only listens to anything which a girl says. Manav was wise & knew this. He knew that society will never accept his justifications, no matter what. Even any untrue and fake allegations are made credible by girls – the society likes to take the side of a girl. It is because of such girls that the real girl victims will do not get heard, with seriousness. As it is ½ of all molestation allegations in the Rajasthan, for example, turn to be fake and motivated”, he said.

“We were also told countless times that the Police are going slow in the investigation as there are girls involved. So we told them, fine we will keep patience. We were asked would we be able to live in peace if any of the accused takes some drastic step? Well, finally I had to tell the Magistrate that as a victim I seek justice and if any accused takes a drastic step of harming themselves or anyone else, that is the responsibility of police & child welfare. We cannot be silenced by this contrived logic”, added Mr Kumar.

On the day when Manav committed suicide late at night, Mr Manoj Kumar tells us that he was studying for the entire day. In the first half, they had made a run to the stationary shop where Manav ended up buying 8 pens. He said that there was no telling for how long the lockdown would be in force, and hence, it would be better if he bought all those pens.

After studying the entire day, Manav wanted to treat himself to a good meal. Manav and his family had a hearty meal of burgers and fries, and retired early for the night. Manav and his father had two desks side by side where both of them used to work and study at night together. That night, after dinner, they decided to go to bed. Little did he know, that only a couple of hours later, his son would be no more.

Before going to bed, Manav must have checked his phone and got to know about what he was being accused of since the prime accuser and her friends were constantly tagging Manav on Instagram. After the allegations went viral, he tried to explain to the girls and their friends that he was innocent, however, his pleas fell on deaf ears. According to Mr Manoj, the prime accused girl’s boyfriend had also called Manav and threatened him for “misbehaving with his girlfriend”. Manav was told that in return, he would come down to India and rape his mother. This tale was narrated to Mr Kumar by Manav’s friends after he had died.

Manav’s friends, however, stood by him like rocks. They knew he could never be capable of what was being alleged. He was studying to go to Canada and had his eyes set firmly on the ball. He wanted to study International Business.

Before he committed suicide, he went a text message to his father and mother.

“I love you papa”. “I love you mom”.

To his friends, he said that he wanted to be a good person, but after this, the world would never see him like that. Even though he was innocent, reveals Mr Kumar. His father said that Manav’s life revolved around his family, his study, his close friends and his dog – Momo.

Manav with his dog, Momo

He committed suicide because he did not want his parents to suffer. He committed suicide because he knew this would haunt him. He committed suicide because, in that moment, his life was over anyway. He jumped from the 11th floor. All of this, from the allegations to his suicide, did not take more than an hour.

Our world came to an end when we saw the body of Manav lying on the road below, his skull smashed, parts of brains spluttered out. We felt as if everything is over and there was no point in living. When we started to learn bit by bit, what transpired, our anger at the unfair treatment of our son grew. It swelled when a second post was made by the prime accused a day later, taking no responsibility. Well, she took responsibility by admitting that Manav was gone. Manav went solely because of the post she made and she is the prime accused in murder of my only son.

He further said:

The dharam-yudh for Manav’s individual justice (#justiceformanav) is a long fight which his family, friends & countless well-wishers & supporters are undertaking. But this is not about a boy or a girl, man or woman, human or animal. We strongly believe that anyone guilty should not go scot-free. Especially those who take advantage of gender-based laws and protection mechanisms. The fight is against those who misuse the provisions with impunity & carefree abandon.

Every living being deserves Justice and a right to be heard. Manav was denied it. No one has the right to lead a mob, encourage it and create situations to lynch an innocent boy. We seek your time to think about a 17-year-old innocent boy, who cried & begged to be heard. All he got in return were more false accusations, taunts, barbs & finally threats to his and his parent’s life. It has taken a life – Manav’s. If we keep quiet, it will take more innocent lives. It MUST stop.

Distressed, Mr Kumar wants the same punishment for the girls as is awarded to rapists.

Such an incident should never ever happen again and it will only be possible if the guilty are punished after a speedy trial. It should deter any girl to make baseless allegations on social media. If the punishment is less, then the girls will happily go scot-free and make a mockery of the whole legal process. If the sentence is less, mark my words all the girls involved will repeat this again and again. They will know that nothing can touch them and they can ruin a boy, his parents and the world can go to hell. The charge on Manav is of sexual assault/rape. Whatever the punishment is for rape for a man, the same must be applied to all the girls for making a false allegation. These girls raped Manav’s soul. The highest possible sentence must be awarded. Then only sense will prevail, lesson learnt and justice will seem to be done.

In his fight for justice, for himself, his family and his lost son, Manoj Kumar had a rocky start with the police hardly being cooperative. Almost 4 months after Manav was driven to take his life, justice has not been served. We asked Mr Kumar what he planned to do if the police continued to walk to the path of least resistance.

There is no reason for Police to shield the accused anymore. The girls have tried to evade justice and also sought anticipatory bail, though only interim bail has been granted. I will pursue this case to the highest levels to bring justice for my son. I can be ignored, hurt, mauled but this whole incidence also gives me the strength to be strong, for the countless boys and girls who face similar situations. Someone has to stand up and raise their voice. Manav choose us. We will ensure justice for Manav.

What is this justice that Mr Kumar talks about? Is it just about the culprit being held accountable?

Mr Manoj Kumar says that once he lost his son, his resolve became unshakeable that the fate that was met by his son, should not be met by anyone else. Nobody else should be driven to end their life simply because the system failed them. Because social media companies failed to maintain checks and balances. “They could have suspended the girls’ accounts. They could have done so much. But they did nothing”, he says.

Social media platforms cannot take refuge under safe harbour conditions. They are liable for the actions of the members, as they created a Frankenstein platform which is being misused. They are equally to blame and can’t wash their hands off the responsibility. The least India should do is raise the minimum age for social media platforms as 18 and if the child is less than 18, then a strict protocol of controls is desirable. I have written to Instagram, but there is no response.

Since the police had not bothered to ask for archives from the social media companies Snapchat and Instagram for several weeks, Mr Manoj Kumar had taken matters into his own hands.

He had sent emails and notices to all social media companies. In fact, while he knows it will not be read, he had even emailed Mark Zuckerburg.

One of the people that he emailed was the United States Embassy. He pleaded for their help since Instagram was an America-based company.

Email from the US Embassy to Mr Manoj Kumar

Unfortunately, the email was to no avail.

Today, Mr Manoj Kumar has a steely resolve to affect change. He does not just want the culprits to be brought the book, but wants social media companies to come up with systems that can protect children like Manav from the onslaught of unverified slander.

But what is a parent supposed to do? Is there anything that we can learn from the ordeal that Mr Kumar has to go through today, and perhaps, for the rest of his life? What do we do protect our children?

The advice for parents, schools and the government is to regulate the use of social media amongst minors. When the age to select a government is 18, how can a 13-year-old have a license to say whatever she or he likes and get away with it? With freedom also comes accountability & responsibility. Here the girls and their parents are accountable for everything which has happened in Manav’s life on 4th May.

One the accused is out on interim bail. The parents put one foot in front of the other every day, waiting for justice. While Mr Kumar displayed composure for the duration of this call, he broke down when he spoke about his son – “He was my only child. He is gone. All I want is justice”, he said.

Prashant Bhushan accepts he is guilty of contempt, cowardly agrees to pay fine after claiming to stand for principles

Advocate Prashant Bhushan has shared on Twitter that he has accepted the Supreme Court’s verdict and the punishment meted out to him.Taking to Twitter, Bhushan stated that his lawyer Rajeev Dhavan had immidiately paid up the Rs 1, that the SC had decided as his penalty.

Bhushan wrote further that he had ‘gracefully’ accepted the punishment.

It is notable here that earlier today, the SC had announced the quantum of punishment for Prashant Bhushan in the contempt case. The court had asked Bhushan to pay the penalty of Rs 1 for being guilty of contempt of court or face three months of jail time and suspension of his law practice in the apex court for 3 years.

Bhushan accepts that he was guilty

It is notable here that Prashant Bhushan had launched a campaign claiming that the contempt of court case against him is a violation of democratic values and he refuses to accept it. He had also refused o apologise despite repeated insistence by the SC. Lofty op-eds and tweets were written by his supporters in the media and social media hailing him as a hero. One columnist for Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper had even gone to the extent of suggesting that Bhushan should be made Congress president so that he could guide Rahul Gandhi.

By accepting the punishment, Bhushan has accepted the fact that he was guilty of contempt.

The top court had last week reserved its judgment in the case after Attorney General KK Venugopal and defence lawyer Dr Dhawan argued before the court that Bhushan should not be made ‘martyr’ in the contempt case and instead forgiven with a message to not repeat such acts.

Last month, the top court, in a landmark judgement, held advocate Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt of court. The case pertained to two tweets where Prashant Bhushan had cast aspersions against the Supreme Court and specifically, CJI Bobde.

The Dewas police had confiscated the flag, keeping in mind the law and order situation in the area. Amid Independence Day celebrations, two pro-Khalistani miscreants had recently hoisted a Khalistani flag on the top of the administrative building in Moga in Punjab. They had also removed the tricolour raised on the building. The Chief Minister of Punjab Amrinder Singh has ordered the state police to arrest the people behind the incident.

The Punjab Police has announced a reward of Rs.50,000 for providing valid information that leads to the arrest of the duo behind hoisting the Khalistani flag. Days after SC pulls up Maha Vikas Aghadi govt, it dismisses three policemen from service in connection with the Palghar mob lynching case

Three police personnel have been dismissed from service in connection with the brutal lynching of two Hindu sadhus and their driver in Palghar in Maharashtra on April 16. The Inspector General (IG) of Police, Konkan Range, on Sunday (August 30) had dismissed these police personnel which included assistant police inspector Anandrao Kale, who was in-charge of Kasa Police Station in Palghar when the incident took place, assistant sub-inspector Ravi Salunke and head constable Naresh Dhodi.

Notably, these three policemen, along with five others, had earlier been suspended after the incident.

Supreme Court pulls up the Maharashtra government

This development came after, the Supreme Court on August 6, pulled up the Maharashtra government. It questioned the state government on what action it had taken against the police personnel who handed over the two Hindu Sadhus to the violent mob, asking it to submit the charge-sheets it had filed in the case within three weeks.

The top court was hearing a petition seeking a separate investigation by the CBI and the NIA into the brutal lynching of Sadhus. The Supreme Court has also sought a response from the Maharashtra government on the petitions seeking CBI, NIA probe.

Maharashtra police rules out ‘communal angle’ in Palghar lynching

The Maharashtra Police had in July, filed two separate charge-sheets in connection with the mob lynching of two Hindu Sadhus and their driver, in which it had ruled out any ‘communal angle’ to the heinous incident.

Christian missionary groups and left-wing organisations behind the gruesome incident, CBI probe demanded

Recently, a fact-finding team blamed left-wing organizations and Christian missionary groups for the violence that led to Sadhus’s lynching in Palghar district, Maharashtra. Demanding that the central investigation agencies like NIA or CBI should be handling the Palghar mob lynching case, the team in its 149-page report, revealed how some groups are spreading hate and inciting the tribal population against the union government.

Palghar Mob Lynching incident

On April 16 2020, two Sadhus associated with the Juna Akhara, 70-year-old Kalpavrishka Giri Maharaj, and 35-year-old Sushil Giri Maharaj along with their driver 30-year-old Nilesh Telgadewere were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat to give Samadhi to another Sadhu, when a wild and frenzied crowd of over more than 100 people attacked them at Gadakchinchale village. The villagers, who deemed them as thieves, started brutally attacking them. The police claim that their team which had rushed to the spot to rescue the 70-year-old man also came under the attack of the violent mob.

But later videos emerged which completely debunked the claim of police. Contrary to the claims, the police personnel had allegedly handed over the Sadhus to the frenzied mob, which went on to beat them to death in front of the policemen.

Reports emerged that the killing of the Sadhus may have been intentional and politically motivated. The involvement of Christian Missionary organisations and some local NCP leaders and leftists were also suspected.
