Five Karnataka police officers including 2 IPS officers booked by CBI in the Rs 4000 crore IMA halal investment scam

0

Two Karnataka cadre IPS officers Hemanth Nimbalkar and Ajay Hilori along with three police personnel have been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Rs 4000 crore IMA scam. They are accused of favouring I Monetary Advisory (IMA) scamster Mansoor Khan in the ponzi scheme scam where more than 50000 people had lost their money.

A case was registered against the Karnataka Police officers after the state government granted approval to investigate the role of both the senior IPS officers. 1998 batch IPS Officer Hemanth Nibalkar is ACP (admin) of the Bengaluru city and Ajay Hilori, a 2008 batch IPS Officer is the Commandant in State reserve police.

The CBI has also booked Gowri Shankar ( sub-inspector with Karnataka Police), EB Sridhara (DSP of CID, Karnataka Police) and M Ramesh (then Inspector with Karnataka police). Apart from these police officials, the CBI also booked Mansoor Khan, chief of IMA and three other office bearers of IMA.

The IMA scam is one of the massive scams to rock the Karnataka state, around 50,000 investors lost their money in this scam. IMA Managing Director Mohammad Mansoor Khan had attracted investors, especially Muslims, by offering an investment scheme that appeared to follow Islamic precepts and provided lucrative returns.

The Special Investigation team affirmed that the investors are defrauded worth INR 4,000 crore. Mansoor khan fled India before the scam broke.

The probe on the IMA scam was conducted under Hemanth Nibalkar. The report submitted by the probe team had given chit to the company stating that was based on the documents and evidence collected. They could not find any corroboration that can show that IMA cheated investors after they promised lucrative returns. The report also stated that the balance sheet of Mansoor Khan and Income Tax Returns of the country were verified.

The probe team led by Hemanth Nibalkar is alleged of deliberate inaction and providing favours to IMA during the investigation.

Puzzled by how a senior officer can give a clean chit to a controversial firm and after a warning by RBI, the state police have directed CID to investigate the matter.

In 2015, an activist had alerted police about the IMA, but he was turned down by the officials. In 2016, despite alerts by RBI the officers had closed the case giving a clean chit stating that the business is being conducted in the purview of the law. Mohammed Mansoor Khan, the main accused in the IMA Ponzi scam, also known as the Halal investment scam, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in New Delhi in July last year.

India’s ambitious Intelligence project NATGRID will be completed by March, to be operational by 2020 end

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced in the Parliament that the much anticipated National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) Project will be completed by the end of March and will go live by 31st December 2020.

“NATGRID has been created as an IT platform to assist the security and law enforcement agencies for national security. The physical infrastructure of NATGRID Wl be completed by 31 March 2020 and IT solution will go live by 31 December 2020,” said MHA in the parliament.

What is NATGRID?

The National Intelligence Grid or NATGRID is the integrated intelligence grid connecting databases of core security agencies of the Government of India. It collects comprehensive patterns of intelligence that can be readily accessed by intelligence agencies.

NATGRID is a counterterrorism programme, which will use modern technologies like Big Data and various analytics tools to analyse vast amounts of data from key intelligence and enforcement agencies to help track suspected terrorist activities to help prevent attacks.

It will connect, in different phases, data providing organisations and users besides developing a legal structure through which information can be accessed by the law enforcement agencies.

As per a report in The Hindu, NATGRID was conceptualised after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. It aims to address a vital deficiency of lack of real-time and continuity of information, which was considered to be one of the biggest issues in detecting US terror suspect David Headley’s movement across the country during his multiple visits between 2006 and 2009.

As per a Swarajya report, a master database like NATGRID is especially important in the face of rising Islamic radicalisation and terrorism – the lone-wolf kind, which is hard to predict. The pooled data of various organisations and services in the country will help in identifying, capturing and prosecuting the terrorists and help foil terror plots.

The role:

NATGRID will become a secure centralised database to stream sensitive information from 21 sets of data sources such as banks, credit cards, visa, immigration and train and air travel details, as well as other relevant data from various intelligence agencies.

The database would be accessible to authorised persons from 10 agencies on a case-to-case basis, and only for professional investigations into suspected cases of terrorism. Currently, there are around 70 personnel, drawn from both the government and private sectors, in NATGRID.

In the first phase, 10 user agencies and 21 service providers will be connected, while in later phases about 950 additional organisations will be connected. In subsequent years, over 1,000 additional organisations will be connected.

The combined data shall be accessible by the central agencies namely the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, Central Board of Excise and Customs, Narcotics Control Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Central Board of Direct Taxes, Financial intelligence unit, Central Bureau of Investigation, the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing.

An international consulting group named ‘Eurasia Group’ names India under PM Modi as ‘top risk in 2020’. Here is how it it factually incorrect

Ever since Prime Minister Modi returned back to power in 2019, certain western policy influencers and powerful establishments have put considerable efforts to discredit the nationalist government in the country.

In continuance with the trend, an international consulting group named ‘Eurasia Group’ has come up with its latest report in which it has named the Narendra Modi government as the fifth most ‘geopolitical risks’ in 2020.

A report titled “India gets Modi-fied” published by Eurasia Group has made vague claims stating that India’s perception around the globe has taken a hit since Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritised Hindu nationalist policies over economic reform.

In the report, the authors – Ian Bremmer and Cliff Kupchan have made allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spent much of his second term on promoting controversial social policies at the expense of an economic agenda. The report went on to make assertions that the impact of such policies will be felt in 2020, with ‘intensified communal and sectarian instability’, as well as foreign policy and economic setbacks.

The report has not only made unverified claims regarding the historic act of abrogating Article 370, which granted special status temporarily for Jammu and Kashmir but also stated half-truths regarding the National Register of Citizens in Assam.

“They revoked the special status for Jammu and Kashmir and implemented a system to identify illegal immigrants in the northeast, stripping 1.9 million people of citizenship,” the report claimed. “Kashmir is a powder keg, with political leaders still under arrest and internet access cut off,” it noted further.

Targetting the Citizenship Amendment Act, which grants citizenship to the persecuted minorities belonging to six minority communities of the three neighbouring countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the report went on to spread misinformation stating that the Modi government passed a law that, for the first time, makes religion a criterion for migrants from neighbouring countries to formally acquire Indian citizenship. This is categorically untrue as the CAA only fast-tracks Indian citizenship of persecuted religious minorities from three neighbouring Islamic countries. As Government of India today clarified yet again, the legal Muslim immigrants can also be granted citizenship. The CAA is only applicable to persecuted religious minorities in three neighbouring Islamic countries: Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Holding PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the alleged ‘sectarian and religious conflicts’ in the country, the report claimed that protests have already spread around India as many citizens feard for the loss of India’s secular identity.

The report also said that the Modi government will not back down and as the government pursues its new agenda, state-level opposition leaders will directly challenge the central government.

The report further noted, “This focus on the social agenda will also have harmful effects for India’s foreign policy. Its actions on human rights will be under closer scrutiny by many nations, and its reputation will take a hit.”

The report points out the underperformance of the GST and the uncertainty on the fiscal deficit. “The country’s fiscal situation is precarious, as the government faces a ‘widening fiscal deficit’ marked by the underperformance of the goods and services tax,” the author says.

“A weakened economy will, in turn, feed further economic nationalism and protectionism, weighing on India’s troubled course in 2020”, it claimed.

Unsurprisingly, the report has too many factual inaccuracies.

Fact check on Eurasia Group’s claims on Kashmir:

The report stated that the decision to revoke Article 370 – a special status that was granted to Jammu and Kashmir as one of the potential reasons for the sectarian and religious conflicts in the country. The report also claimed that political leaders are still under arrest and internet access cut off. However, the claims are untrue.

It is important to note that the decision to revoke the special status of the Kashmir is an internal matter of the country. The democratically elected government of a sovereign country has every right to take any action that is aligned in the interest of the country.

Further, the Modi government has followed all the principles that are enshrined in the constitution to scrap the controversial special status that was blatantly discriminatory in nature. The controversial Article 370 was in fact responsible for the long age of violence and bloodshed in the valley.

Article 370 was a temporary provision that was part of the original constitution that India had adopted in 1950. This was part of Part XXI of the constitution, which is the Temporary and Transitional provisions. This means the article 370 was deemed to be a temporary provision from the beginning. Hence, the Eurasia group cannot lament over the fact that the Indian government removed one of the temporary provisions in the constitution.

Secondly, the report claims that the political leaders have been arrested and the internet has been cut-off in the region. The claims are untrue as not all political leaders have been arrested. The government of India has taken a few precautionary measures during the abrogation of Article 370 to detain a few controversial leaders, who have a history of stoking chaos in the valley. The restrictions on the internet were also temporary.

As the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is at near-normal, the restrictions on internet and communications have been eased and most of the political leaders apart from a few influential leaders who could anarchy on the streets have been kept under government accommodation.

Eurasia’s untrue claims on Assam NRC:

The report also claims that the Modi government implemented a system to identify illegal immigrants in the northeast, stripping 1.9 million people of citizenship. However, this is an out-and-out lie being peddled by the so-called Eurasia Group without even comprehending the facts pertaining to the implementation of the National Register of Citizens in Assam.

The most basic fact of the matter that the report missed was the exercise of NRC in Assam was not done by the Modi government rather it was an exercise that was mandated by the Supreme Court. It is in fact the Congress government in 1985 under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi which initiated such a process to prepare an NRC to curb the problem of infiltration across the border. The whole process was to identify the genuine Indian citizens in the state of Assam.

Further, the Modi government has no role at all in the entire process of the NRC in Assam as the process of updating Assam’s part of NRC started in 2013 was initiated by the Supreme Court of India. In fact, the Supreme Court bench headed by the then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Fali Nariman monitored the process continuously.

Misleading reportage on the Citizenship Amendment Act:

The report asserted that the Modi government has also passed a law that made religion a criterion for migrants from neighbouring countries to formally acquire Indian citizenship.

In reality, what the report deliberately ignores to state is that it is not religion the sole criteria for granting citizenship to the minorities of the three neighbouring countries but it is the ‘religious persecution’ that forms the basis of providing citizenship in the country.

Further, the law passed by the Indian parliament does not automatically provide citizenship to any individual or minorities of the three neighbouring countries. The law only provides citizenship for the minorities who are persecuted in the three neighbouring countries and for people who are already residing in India before December 31, 2014. Further, the ‘persecuted minorities’ who have been already residing in the country must also prove their claims of being persecuted in the neighbouring countries.

Further, CAA is a special one-time measure for the religious minorities who have already come to India after facing persecution in the three specified countries. The amendment does not cancel the existing naturalisation laws.

It is an extremely dishonest act by Eurasia group to portray that the new Citizenship Amendment Act is discriminatory along religious lines without even understanding the details of the legislation.

Delhi HC refuses to set aside Patiala Court’s stay on execution; grants 7 days to the convicts to avail their legal remedies

0

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday, February 5, declined to interfere with the Patiala court’s order staying the execution of the Nirbhaya convicts and maintained that death warrants of all the convicts had to be executed at the same time.

The court has also provided 7 days of time to the convict to exercise all the legal remedies at their disposal, following which it has directed the authorities to act in accordance with the law.

Hearing the petition filed by the MHA challenging the stay on execution, the court observed that the 4 convicts cannot be executed separately. However, the court did not agree with the trial court’s assessment that pendency of mercy petition of even one convict is ground to postpone the executions. “Since their fate is decided by the same order up to the Supreme Court, they should be executed together,” the court said.

In his judgement, justice Suresh Kumar Kait also admitted that all the convicts employed delaying tactics to evade the punishment for as long as they could. “I have no hesitation in stating that all the convicts waited, for reasons best known to them, to file their review petitions after more than 150 days. Akshay filed his review after more than 900 days. Convicts have adopted delayed tactics. So I hereby direct all the convicts to exercise their legal remedies within 7 days, after which the court expects the authorities to act pursuant to the law,” the court order said.

Of the four convicts, Mukesh Singh has exhausted all his legal remedies, including mercy petition and the challenge against the rejection of mercy. Another convict Vinay Sharma’s mercy petition was rejected by the President on Saturday. The third convict, Akshay Kumar Thakur filed his mercy petition on Saturday while the fourth convict Pawan Gupta is yet to file a curative petition in SC and a mercy plea to the President.

Sunni Waqf Board forms Islamic Trust for 5-acre land allotted by UP govt as per Ayodhya verdict, AIMPLB says Waqf Board does not represent all Muslims

0

In a significant development in the Ayodhya dispute case, the Sunni Waqf board also today announced the formation of an Islamic trust to manage the alternate land allotted to the Board in the historic Ayodhya judgment by the Supreme Court. Reportedly, the waqf board said that the trust will be formed and registered in two-three days. The announcement by the Waqf Board implies the formal acceptance of the Supreme Court judgement in November last year handing over the disputed site to the Hindu parties. The Board had earlier said that it will not contest the Supreme Court order.

Sources have said the 5-acre land, which the Sunni Waqf Board was granted by the Supreme Court in the historic Ram Janmabhoomi case, will be run by the trust named ‘Indo Islamic Culture Trust’. The development came on the same day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of the trust Shri Ram Teertha Kshetra that the Cabinet has formed to build Ram Temple.

The waqf board said that the Islamic trust will promote Islamic culture in India and outside as well and also carry out programs reconciling both the communities in India.

“The trust will ensure the construction of hospitals, schools, libraries, public utility infrastructure and institutions which will encourage Islamic cultural activities and other social activities. Many people associated with the Babri Masjid case will also be made members in this trust,” the sources said.

The sources said that the trust has prepared an outline of this trust and registration will be done really soon. After getting 5-acre land from the government, the work on the land will be started soon.

The decision by the Sunni Waqf Board was taken after the UP government had announced the allotment of 5-acres of land to the board as per SC order. The plot is located in Dhannipur village in Sohawal Tehsil in Ayodhya, which is around 18 km away from the district headquarters and located on the Lucknow highway.

Announcing the decision, state government spokesperson Shrikant Sharma said that UP govt had sent three alternatives to the central govt, and the Dhannipur site was accepted by the centre, after which state cabinet approved its allotment to the Sunni Waqf Board. He said that there is good communication facility to the site, and communal amity and law and order in the location is also good.

However, another influential Islamic organisation All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has said that Sunni Waqf Board does not represent the entire Muslim community, and if it accepts the land, it should not be considered as the decision of the whole community. “Sunni Waqf board is not representative of the entire Muslim community. If it takes land, it should not be considered decision of Muslims of the country,” senior executive member of AIMPLB Maulana Yasin Usmani said. He said that AIMPLB and others associated it with will not accept any land according to the apex court verdict, as they continue to oppose the verdict. The Board has already decided to file a review petition at the Supreme Court against the Ayodhya verdict.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced in Lok Sabha that the Cabinet has cleared the trust that will manage the 67 acre land in Ayodhya where the Grand Ram Mandir will be built.

“We have readied a scheme for the development of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. A trust has been formed, it is called ‘Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teertha Kshetra’, PM said.

He had also declared that the UP government has agreed to give the 5-acre land to Sunni Waqf Board as directed by the Supreme Courtin the Ayodhya Matter.

Salman Khan cancels his Houston event after allegations of terror funding surfaced against the Pakistani organiser

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has called off his event in Houston amidst allegations of terror funding levelled against the Pakistani origin event organiser- Rehan Siddiqui.

A Pakistani-national based on Houston, Rehan Siddiqui had extensive experience in the music and radio industry and said to have organised more than 400 successful concerts with many of the biggest stars from South Asia and Bollywood. However, of late, he had been under the radar of the Indian authorities for allegedly using funds raised from his events to finance Kashmir-related anti-India activities in the United States.

The Indian diaspora in the United States has staunchly opposed Siddiqui’s organised events, urging the government to dissuade the Bollywood celebrities from participating in the events organised by an ‘ISI agent’. They have demanded that Bollywood celebrities should not be allowed to participate in shows. They have also asserted that Siddiqui and other Pakistani nationals are working to organise anti-CAA protests in Houston and pro-Khalistan protests by the local Sikh community.

Siddiqui’s radio channel is also accused of running anti-India propaganda in the wake of Pulwama attack and the subsequent Balakot strikes.

Rehan has previously conducted several Indian celebrity shows in the US hosting celebrities like Mika Singh, Baadshah, Pankaj Udhas, Saif Ali Khan etc. However, last year, actor Diljit Dosanjh cancelled his concert in Houston following the displeasure raised by the Indian community and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees(FWICE) by writing to the Indian authorities, including MEA, about the involvement of the ‘ISI agent’ Siddiqui.

The FWICE had last year exhorted the Indian Bollywood stars to not give priority to monetary considerations and abstain from being involved in concerts with Pakistani nationals and Pakistani performers anywhere in the world.

India’s service sector activity growth hits 7-year high in January due to robust domestic demand

The growth of India’s service sector has hit a seven-year high in January, raising hopes of an economic recovery on the basis of strong domestic demand, stated a survey released on Wednesday.

As reported by Business Today, the IHS Markit has released its India Services Business Activity Index which showed that the index increased to 55.5 in January compared to 53.3 in December, indicating the strongest growth since January 2013. A reading above 50-mark indicates growth, while one below it reflects contraction.

This was the first month of expansion for Services PMI after three straight months of contraction. It was attributed to favourable market conditions and better underlying demand, according to survey participants.

Two days back, The IHS Markit had released its India Manufacturing Purchasing Manager’s Index, which showed an increase in manufacturing activity in the country. The index had risen to 55.3 in January from 52.7 in December.

According to the service sector index, the January data showed that the growth of private sector activity moved up a gear, amid broad-based accelerations across manufacturing and services. The IHS Markit survey stated that the main factor boosting growth was a sudden wave of new business. Aggregate sales rose at the sharpest pace since January 2013, with quicker increases evident at goods producers and service providers.

Pollyanna de Lima, the principal economist at IHS Markit stated, “The Indian service sector jumped to life at the start of 2020, defying expectations of fragility and building on to the momentum gained at the end of 2019.”

“With new business growth ticking higher, services companies continued to add to their workforces. The rate of job creation was little-changed from December, thereby remaining above its long-run average,” IHS Markit said in its report.

Meanwhile, rates of input cost and output charge inflation in the private sector accelerated to 66- and 30-month highs, respectively. The overall rate of cost inflation was sharp and the fastest in close to seven years, as per the report.

AAP leader deletes tweet, but party forgets to delete their article confirming Shaheen Bagh shooter is AAP member

Ever since it came to light that the Shaheen Bagh attacker, Kapil Gujjar, who fired three shots in the air on February 1, is an AAP member, Aam Aadmi Party has been in a damage control mode, trying to delink themselves from the assaulter. Prominent AAP leader Kuldeep Kumar recently deleted the tweet welcoming Gujjar and his father Gaje Singh Chauhan along with party leaders Sanjay Singh and Atishi Marlena into AAP.

However, though the tweet highlighting Gujjar and his father’s Gaje Singh’s association with the AAP party may have been removed by Kumar, the Aam Aadmi Party forget to remove from their official website an article that confirms that the Shaheen Bagh shooter was indeed an AAP member. In case the article is pulled down, the archived version can be accessed here.

The article pertains to the event in which Congress and BSP leaders left their parties to join the Aam Aadmi Party in presence of senior AAP members Atishi Marlena and Sanjay Singh. It was during this event that Chaudhary Gaje Singh, who had served as BSP District President of Patparganj and MLA candidate had shunned his party to join the AAP along with his son Kapil Gujjar.

Read: Liberals have a lot to answer for: With Shaheen Bagh shooter’s AAP link emerging, these propagandists need to apologise

Welcoming Kapil Gujjar’s father Gaje Singh, Atishi Marlena had heaped praises for all the new joiners in the party. “These are esteemable people of Delhi. They are respected by society. Their inclusion in the party will strengthen the party’s hold in Delhi,” Marlena said.

While it has been proved beyond doubt that Kapil Gujjar and his father Gaje Singh were “esteemed” members of AAP, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal laid the blame on BJP for using the Delhi Police to cast the party in a bad light by associating the shooter with the AAP party. “BJP has left with nothing. They have nothing to counter the work done by the AAP government in Delhi. Kapil’s family has said that they have nothing to do with AAP. Anyone can get their pictures clicked with someone. If he has any link with AAP, then he should be given harshest punishment,” Kejriwal said.

Earlier, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who apparently welcomed Kapil Gujjar into the party tried to wash his hands off him stating that the shooting was a BJP ploy. He even said that the AAP member being part of AAP and who opened fire at Shaheen Bagh demanding Hindu Rashtra and saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is all a BJP conspiracy.

As absconding Kranti Maidan protestor Urvashi Chudawala files for anticipatory bail, mother admits daughter made a mistake after being instigated

0

As one of the August Kranti Maidan protestors, Urvashi Chudawala, who was booked in a sedition case for raising slogans in support of radical Islamist Sharjeel Imam, filed an anticipatory bail application in Mumbai sessions court, her mother Rina Chudawala has admitted that her daughter made a mistake after being instigated by others.

“She has made a mistake but someone instigated her. We are also worried about Urvashi, she is not at home. She is a bright student, and we want her to come home as soon as possible,” Urvashi’s mother, Rina Chudawala told media after getting her statement recorded at the Azad Maidan police station Tuesday.

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences student has been absconding after Mumbai police booked her in a sedition case for shouting slogans in support of jailed Shaheen Bagh mastermind and a columnist with the leftist propaganda website, The Wire, Sharjeel Imam, at the annual LGBTQIA pride parade event in the capital city of Maharashtra, Mumbai.

Chudawala is accused of raising the slogan: “Sharjeel tere sapno ko hum manzil tak pahuchaenge (we will convert your dreams into reality)” at the ‘Queer Azadi’ rally on February 1 in Mumbai, organised to celebrate and commemorate the queer history.

The Mumbai police had booked Chudawala along with 50 others under Sections 124A (Sedition), 153B, 505, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police confirmed that Chudawala has not returned to her hostel for the last two days, adding her phone was also unreachable. The police have written to TISS to provide information clues regarding her whereabouts.

Four teams have been found to trace the student. Chudawala was booked on the basis of a complaint made by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.

Somaiya in his Tweet today said: “I filed a complaint with Mumbai Police on anti-national demonstration/slogans in support of Sharjeel Imam during 1 Feb LGBT program. The Thackeray government asked police not to register FIR. I will start ‘DHARNA’ at Azad Maidan Police Station if action not taken in 3 days.”

Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had said that action will be taken against her after which the case was filed.

The Queer Azaadi Mumbai Pride’s “solidarity gathering” in Mumbai at Azaad Maidaan was used by anti-CAA propagandists to link the cause of the LGBTQIA community with the Azadi slogans raised against the Citizenship Amendment Act, NRC and NPR.

Following the denial of permission to carry out the Queer Azaadi Mumbai Pride March from its traditional starting point-August Kranti Maidaan, the Queer Azaadi Mumbai (QAM) managed to winkle permission from the Mumbai police to organise a “solidarity gathering” at Azaad maidan on Saturday, 1 February, from 3 pm to 6 pm.

However, the gathering was put to use by anti-CAA protesters to promote their propaganda. They not only raised pro-Sharjeel and pro-Azadi slogans but also carried and wielded placards denouncing the new Citizenship Law that intends to grant citizenship to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. One of the placards also demanded independence of Kashmir, along with criticising CAA and NRC.

Sharjeel Imam, who masterminded the Shaheen Bagh road blockade to protest against the CAA, was arrested by Delhi Police from Bihar after multiple FIRs were filed against him for his seditious speech. Addressing a gathering at Aligarh, Imam had urged Muslims to come together and cut off the Siliguri Corridor aka the chicken’s neck, which connects the seven northeastern states to rest of India. He had also earlier made provocative speeches where he had asked Muslims to come out and block roads of India and bring it to a standstill so as to get international media attention.

Political analyst Gunja Kapoor heckled by women at Shaheen Bagh for allegedly taking videos, detained by police

Political analyst Gunja Kapoor was on Wednesday heckled by women at Shaheen Bagh for allegedly ‘taking videos’. She was allegedly wearing a ‘burqa’ and the objection was raised over her trying to cover the protests while wearing one.

In the above video one can see Gunja being taken away by Police to safety as angry women heckle and manhandle her.

In this video, women protestors are angry at Gunja for wearing a burqa while attending the protest. They are objecting that she is wearing a burqa while being a Hindu. She was interrogated by the women at Shaheen Bagh on who provided her a burqa and why was she wearing one.

Read: Shaheen Bagh ground report: A well-organised ‘organic’ protest, estimated costs of Rs 5L everyday and protestors spying on you

Which is surprising because many people in the last two months have worn ‘burqa’ to show solidarity with the anti-CAA protestors and were hailed for their efforts towards secularism.

Indulekha wore a burqa and hijab to show solidarity during anti-CAA protests

Earlier in January, “Azad women for Azadi” protests were held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi where women of different faiths wore hijab or burqa.

Women from different faiths wore hijab for during anti-CAA protest at Jantar Mantar

While these attempts at wearing hijabs and burqas were hailed, Gunja was questioned for the same. Her heckling was then justified by radicals because of her political ideology.

Shaheen Bagh protestors have a very strong protocol where only confirmed media houses are allowed to film. Some media houses are given ‘permission’ to film on condition it will be telecast live. Others are just not allowed. This is a ‘protest’ being held on middle of a road. The entry points through small lanes are guarded where ‘volunteers’ check your bags and if they find you ‘suspicious’, they check for ID proofs. If they feel you are video recording or clicking pictures of things that could go against you, they make you delete them. All this is carried out by ‘volunteers’ and no security agency.

Earlier this week, Gunja was a panelist on a CNN News 18 show with Bhupendra Chaubey when the crowd at Shaheen Bagh went unruly and heckled him and forced them to cut short their show.

OpIndia reached out to Gunja Kapoor for a statement but she was currently unreachable. We shall update our report when we hear back from her.
