Historian Ramachandra Guha backtracks on his “dynasty jibe” against Rahul Gandhi and reiterates his opposition to Modi-Shah regime

On Friday, historian Ramachandra Guha had lashed out at the Nehru- Gandhi dynasty. He labelled Rahul Gandhi as a “fifth-generation dynast” and stated that Gandhi stood no chance in front of a self-made Modi. Guha also blamed the people of Kerela for electing Rahul in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The historian was addressing an audience at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) in Kozhikode. His comment was reported by PTI.

The verbal attack on Rahul Gandhi surprised many people since Guha is known to be a Congress loyalist. But, the surprise did not live for long. Following a Twitter spat with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Guha backtracked on his jibe at Rahul Gandhi.

On Sunday, he took to Twitter to clarify his views on Rahul and the Modi-Shah regime. He began by accusing PTI of selective reporting and quoting him out of context.

He softened his tone and asserted that Rahul’s association with the Gandhi dynasty held a “great disadvantage” for winning elections, as he lacks focus and administrative experience. He also it was patronizing of him to criticise people from Kerala for electing Rahul Gandhi. Referring to PM Narendra Modi as a “self-made man,” Guha said in a presidential-style election, voters tend to prefer Modi over Gandhi.

He shrewdly added that his comment on Modi must be looked at from a “political” point of view. To justify that he is not inclined towards Modi, Guha highlighted his critical commentary in publications such as Telegraph and Hindustan Times against the Prime Minister’s policies.

Guha asserted that he has been a vocal opponent of “Hindutva” since the Bhagalpur riots of 1989. He stated that he would continue to oppose it in his speeches, tweets, and books. He blamed the Modi-Shah duo for running a “dangerous and divisive regime”. Guha also accused the duo of intimidating the press and the judiciary, besides promoting religious polarisation and making minorities insecure.

Towards the end of his Twitter thread, he stated how Anti-CAA protests organized by students affiliated with Left organizations have inspired him and helped break the so-called “wall of fear”. He also emphasized on the importance of courage, resolution, and non-violence in their “struggle” against the ruling dispensation.

Earlier, Guha had attacked the left-wing forces for the rise of aggressive nationalism worldwide. He had also blamed the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in neighbouring countries as a reason behind the rise of Hindutva in India.

His clarification or rather a hysterical tirade against the Modi-Shah duo now appears to be an act of damage control for his “dynasty jibe” at Rahul Gandhi.

Jammu and Kashmir: Administration releases list of 153 ‘whitelisted’ websites after broadband and 2G mobile internet was restored

Following the return of normalcy in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370, the J&K administration has placed over 150 websites under the “whitelist” category, which effectively means that people can now access the websites. The whitelist has been published after the administration partially restored internet services in the state.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has published a list of 153 websites which will be allowed to be accessed from the UT, and divided the whitelisted sites into 10 sections. the list of websites has names of four email services, including Gmail and Outlook, 15 banking websites, including RBI, J&K Bank, PayPal and Western Union, three employment websites, 38 educational websites, including that of five J&K-based universities and Wikipedia.

The list also has websites related to automobiles and travelling. The Incredible India website and the site for the Amarnath Shrine Board are among the 20 travel websites that the people can access. The list also includes several major entertainment streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, Sony Liv and Airtel TV, which also offer access to certain television news channels. Video calling app Jio Chat has also been whitelisted.

Only one weather website has been allowed, while in the automobile sector there are four names – Maruti, Tata, Suzuki and Hyundai, which means websites of several other major auto companies remain blocked in the state, like Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Renault, Bajaj, Honda, Hero, TVS etc. Interestingly, the list also includes second-level domains gov.in, nic.in and ac.in, which should mean any government, PSU or educational institution website using these domains would be available in Jammu Kashmir.

However, the administration has not given access to any kind of social media websites like Twitter, Facebook or WhatsApp, and news websites.

The easing of the internet comes after the J&K administration had restored voice and SMS facilities on all prepaid mobiles on Saturday across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The administration had also allowed 2G Internet connectivity to white-listed sites across all ten districts of Jammu province and two revenue districts of Kupwara and Bandipora in Kashmir. Telecom service providers have also been directed to comply with these directions immediately after ensuring fulfilment of the necessary formalities.

Here is the list of websites that the J-K administration has made accessible:

The internet services in Jammu and Kashmir were suspended in August 2019 as the central government abrogated Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which granted special status to the erstwhile state and bifurcated it to two Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this week the internet services were partially restored, with broadband connections restored in institutions like hotels, travel establishments, hospitals etc, and mobile internet has been restored only on 2G. Along with that, the government is also setting up Internet kiosks across the UT from where the whitelisted sites can be accessed.

District Magistrate and Deputy DM in Congress ruled Madhya Pradesh slap and assault people at peaceful pro-CAA rally

The District Magistrate of Rajgarh in Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh has been spotted assaulting people at a pro-CAA and NRC rally in Rajgarh. The DM was accompanied by the Deputy as well when peaceful protesters were slapped and pushed around for organizing a demonstration in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The visuals are quite disturbing. As per Times Now, there was section 144 imposed in the district but even so, the manner in which the peaceful protesters were being assaulted reeks of malice on the part of the administration. It is very unusual for the DM and Deputy DM to assault protesters on the streets.

The Congress party’s stand on the CAA has been clear from the very beginning, they have decided to oppose the Act that provides citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring Islamic States tooth and nail. Congress-ruled Punjab had passed a resolution against the CAA after Kerala did the same.

Meanwhile, the law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh has been deteriorating ever since Kamal Nath took charge as Chief Minister. One youth from the Dalit community was set on fire on Tuesday. The youth named Dhaniram Ahirwar suffered 60% burn in the attack by around 15-20 men and is currently undergoing treatment at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal.

1 school approved vs 500 promised, fall in DTC buses, 0 new hospitals, fake surveys: RTI replies reveal Kejriwal hasn’t fulfilled major election promises

Replies to several applications seeking information under the Right to Information (RTI) to know achievement of the Delhi government in the last five years have revealed the AAP government has failed to deliver of several key promises made before the 2015 assembly elections. The RTI applications were filed by activist Tejpal Singh over the year 2019, and their replies have been made available just before the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections. India TV exclusively accessed the replies, and the findings expose several inconvenient facts about the Arvind Kejriwal led government in Delhi. The replies show that not only the AAP government has done nothing on many on their poll promises, they even lied to citizens.

Teacher Vacancies & School Construction

An RTI reply revealed that there are 6,004 teachers less in Delhi’s government schools as of 30th September 2019 than April 1, 2015. Moreover, there were 15,702 vacant posts on September 30, 2019, whereas 9,598 teacher posts were lying vacant on February 1, 2015.

Arvind Kejriwal had promised to construct 500 new schools. RTI reply revealed that only one school had been approved for construction in the past four years.

DTDC Buses

The number of DTDC buses that plied on the Delhi roads fell from 4,705 buses to 3,796 buses between 2015-2019. The RTI reply was signed by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) official. This is in contrast to the Delhi government’s promise to buy 5,000 new buses.

Hospitals & Healthcare

Another RTI reply by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Delhi, revealed that no new hospital was built between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2019. The AAP government is also far from achieving 30,000 new beds to Delhi hospitals.

Fake Surveys

In 2015, Arvind Kejriwal had vowed to sanction the building of homes to JJ (jhuggi jhopri) residents after carrying out a survey. RTI has revealed that the AAP government did not construct any house between February 1, 2015, and September 30, 2019. No step has been taken to resettle 3 lac JJ residents. They were, however, awarded survey completion certificates. Interestingly, another RTI reply by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has made it clear that no such survey had been carried out in any JJ cluster in the past four years.

These RTI replies show that the Arvind Kejriwal has not fulfilled even 1% of several promises made before the last assembly elections in Delhi.

Kashmiri Pandit Genocide: Then and now, from Azadi slogans to Hindu hate, the nature of Jihad and its apologists remain unchanged

The 19th of January, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the valley. A lot has changed since then but the more things change the more they remain the same. It is an undeniable fact that the same sentiments that led to the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus are very much alive and thriving today. The only thing that is markedly different is the political dispensation that is in power today and the manner in which they perceive the world.

Of course, those sentiments were most prevalent in the recent violence that broke out across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The same brand of politics that forced Kashmir Hindus to migrate out of Kashmir does not wish minorities from the Islamic States of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to be provided citizenship in India. It is their ideological comrades that have driven out these poor Hindus and Sikhs from the abovementioned Islamic states.

When a Hindutva government seeks to alleviate the misery of these people, as far as is humanly possible, they are the ones taking great grievance against the same. It’s not surprising at all, it’s in the nature of Radical Islam to not only oppress people of other religions but also deny them the rights and privileges that they are due as a consequence of the violence Islamic fundamentalists have inflicted upon them.

Read: Saba Naqvi mirrors Jihadis, insinuates that re-settling Kashmiri Pandits in the valley is a part of the ‘Hinduisation’ project

One of the distinctive features of Radical Islamic Terrorism is that while terrorists are busy committing the most heinous of crimes against humanity, there is a cantankerous band of assorted morons who busy themselves whitewashing their crimes and immediately try to build a narrative that Islamophobia is the real concern when Islamic terrorists murder ‘Kaafirs’.

Thus, it gives Islamic Extremists the opportunity to cry victim while they are holding a knife to the throat of ‘infidels’. It has been happening in Kashmir ever since 1990 and the same patter can be observed in the aftermath of the passage of the CAA at the protests in Shaheen Bagh. There are stark similarities between the protests against the CAA and what happened at Kashmir thirty years ago. And there’s a need for a reminder of this fact.

Organized Violence

During the anti-CAA protests, the country was witness to a spree of violence across India. While a lot of public property was damaged, in Bihar, a Temple of Hanuman was vandalized. Organized mobs rampaged across the country with only one thing in their mind: Destruction.

Read: Khilafat 2.0: How Useful Idiots in the media and political parties were fooled by Jamia students associated with the ‘blood brother’ of a banned Radical Islamic outfit

It wouldn’t be far fetched to assert that what happened in Kashmir could have happened again in Muslim dominated areas in other parts of the country if the police weren’t as alert as it was. There was a serious risk of widespread communal violence as well which was averted by the administration.

Cries for Jihad

It is important to remember that organized violence did not occur in a vacuum. It occurred on the backdrop of calls for Jihad that was made and extremely problematic Islamic supremacist rhetoric. The Jamia ‘shero’ made a call for Jihad and it was not too long after that violence erupted across the national capital. Genocidal maniacs were glorified by the same people. Poems that spoke of the destruction of Murthis were chanted and glorified. But there were very specific slogans that reminded one of the Kashmiri Hindu genocide the most.

Read: ‘Jinnah wali Azadi’ slogans raised at Shaheen Bagh: The true face of anti-CAA protests and what these slogans mean

The ‘Hinduon se Azadi’ slogan that was raised could be construed to have only one meaning. And if the people who raised these slogans were allowed to have their way, we would once again witness what happened in Kashmir in 1990. There is no other way to interpret those words. Then, there was the ‘Jinnah Wali Azadi’ slogan which clearly revealed the intentions of the protesters to partition the country again.

The Intellectual Defense of Islamic Extremism

Intellectuals of a certain bent have continuously acted as the first line of defence for Islamic Terrorism and Extremism. We witnessed the same happen in Kashmir for thirty years.  The ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus was portrayed as voluntary migration. Radical Islamic Terrorism was turned into a battle for freedom. And the rape and murder of Kashmiri Hindus and the destruction of hundreds of Temples were brushed under the carpet. Some people like Barkha Dutt even justified the ethnic cleansing.

We witnessed a similar turn of events during the anti-CAA protests. The entire coterie of intellectuals and the mainstream media worked hard at their propaganda to turn a Radical Islamic protest into a “people’s protest” but that propaganda did not work. Faiz’s poem littered with Islamic supremacist overtones was whitewashed. The motivation behind these protests was propagandized to be secular when, clearly, they were motivated by the worst form of Islamic Supremacism.

Read: Latest media reports about anti-CAA violence in Patna make no mention of Hanuman Temple that was vandalised

The Sacred Hindu symbol of Swastika was desecrated and insulted and compared to the Nazi symbol and yet, it’s the Hindus who were accused of bigotry and being ‘illiterate’ when they took offence. A similar stance was adopted when Hindus took offence to the desecration of ‘Om’ during these protests. The Islamic Supremacist sloganeering combined with such anti-Hindu imagery left no doubt about the nature of these protests.

Perpetual Victimhood

During these protests, the relationship between the Hindu and Muslim communities was damaged greatly and perhaps, irreparably. The first step towards repairing the relationship would have been to acknowledge all the crimes that were committed and apologizing for the same. The anti-Hindu sloganeering, the slogans calling for partitions, all those ought to have been condemned. The next step would have been to help the administration catch the criminals who engaged in violence and such behaviour. These should have been the first steps towards repairing interfaith relationships but the community, egged on by the intellectual mafia, is more interested in playing victim than genuine communal harmony.

Read: Media and assorted fools screamed ‘rape’ of children in Madarsa by UP Police during anti-CAA riots, now an FIR has been filed for false info: Read details

The same has happened in Kashmir for thirty years. Even after committing a genocide, Kashmiri Muslims still claim to be victims. And the intellectual mafia continues to pander to their Islamic supremacist inclinations. Not once has there been an honest apology for the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus and not once did the intellectual mafia ask them to apologize and offer reparations for the same. And the same continues to this day.

Secularism: The burden Hindus must suffer alone

Even after suffering a genocide, the burden of upholding secularism falls on the shoulders of Hindus. It’s always Hindus that must adhere to the diktats of Secularism while other communities are free to dance on the corpses of the pillars of secularism they have just murdered. Hindus can be subjected to hate speech, disgusting taunts and even genocide but if they retaliate by exercising their democratic of voting for a political party liberals and Islamic extremists are not fond of, Hindus will be labeled fascists and Nazis.

Kashmiri Muslims have never been asked to adhere to secular values. Even after chanting ‘Hinduon se Azadi’, when Muslims make ‘La ilaha illallah’ (There is no God but Allah) the central slogan of their anti-CAA protests, it’s the Hindus who are accused of bigotry if they find the latter slogan problematic. The genocide of Kashmiri Hindus and the consequent treatment they have been subject to by Kashmiri Muslims following the ethnic cleansing is a testament to the fact that no matter how hard Hindus try, no matter to what extent Hindus appease Islamic Extremism, they will never ever be Secular enough. And it’s a futile endeavour that’s not worth the effort.

Sting video exposes propaganda behind Shaheen Bagh protests, organiser Sharjeel Imam from JNU confesses protest was carried out to attract ‘Western media’

In an explosive sting, Republic TV has exposed the real intentions behind the so-called ‘organic’ Shaheen Bagh protests, which the “liberal-secular” media tried to pass off as a peaceful and spontaneous protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The Republic TV on Sunday revealed the exact modus-operandi behind the so-called peaceful protests at Shaheen Bagh. In the sting, Sharjeel Imam, the chief of Shaheen Bagh Coordination Committee confessed on camera that the original plan was to organise a protest for one day to try and block major roads to attract the ‘western media’.

In the video, Sharjeel Imam can be seen claiming that nearly 60-70 students had distributed pamphlets around Delhi to organise the protests which began on December 14 at Shaheen Bagh. Currently, Shaheen Bagh is witnessing many protests mainly led by Muslim women. Sharjeel Imam admitted on camera that protests were carried out after Friday Namaz at Shaheen Bagh mainly to block roads and create chaos to attract the ‘western media’.

“We met on Thursday – 5 December and decided to distribute pamphlets about CAA on Friday. We got at least 10,000 to 15,000 pamphlets published and at least 60-70 students from JNU. Different teams covered Old Delhi, Seelampur, Okhla, I myself went to Nizamuddin. That is how it all began,” said Imam, explaining the origins of the protests.

He added, “We thought if block roads for a day, it will be good. The profit behind that is that we will get international media’s attention.” Talking about the violence witnessed in Shaheen Bagh, he said, “A bearded guy wearing a turban came towards us, we had never seen it before. He had a huge flag with him and he said ‘pelt stones’ and people started pelting stones – which went on for 10 minutes.”

We had earlier reported how the protests at Shaheen Bagh in the name of saving the constitution are being organised by people who had planned to burn the Constitution. On December 31, OpIndia had published screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation where Sharjeel Imam had said that he would prefer to burn the constitution, as burning the 1500 page Ayodhya judgement would be difficult. He had said this while planning protests after the historic Ram Mandir verdict was given by the Supreme Court.

Sharjeel Imam is a PhD scholar from JNU who was earlier caught discussing regarding burning the constitution one day ahead of the Supreme Court verdict on the long-contested Ram Janmabhooomi-Babri Masjid dispute. Moreover, a video was posted by Facebook group ‘Muslim Students of JNU’ on 14 December 2019 – a day ahead of the Shaheen Bagh protests telling the crowds to block the roads of Delhi. He was seen instigating Muslims saying ‘Don’t Muslims even have that much in them to shut down cities of north India?’

Following the failure of violent protests perpetrated by the Muslim mobs on the streets of Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia University, few women belonging to Muslim community sat on a protest at Shaheen Bagh and blocked bus stop and a highway causing severe problems to the public of Delhi. They have been frequently joined by media persons and various Congress leaders who have stood in solidarity with the protesting women.

It is pertinent to note that the Shaheen Bagh protests, which were actually passed as an organic protest in a bid to ‘save the constitution’ later turned blatantly communal. It was earlier reported how protestors chanted slogans of “Jinnah Wali Azadi”, exposing the claims of “liberal-secular” media, who had earlier passed of these protests as peaceful.

Read- The make-believe world of Shaheen Bagh protests will come down crashing: Here is why

Later, another Hinduphobic poster came up at the protest site in which the Hindu Swastika was depicted wrongfully and shown crushed by Hindu women in Burkha.

It was also alleged that the entire Shaheen Bagh protests were staged and sponsored. In a viral video shared on Twitter by Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT cell head, a man appeared to be the shopkeeper claimed that the protesting women are paid between ₹500 and ₹700 on a daily basis. He added that the protestors work in shifts so that the crowd looks huge at all times of the day.

According to the viral video, the women are incentivised to dedicate their free time to the protests. He asserted that these sponsored protests are carried out near Batla House and Kalindi Kunj. He also added that the protestors are provided with food, rest and shift-based rotational ‘duty hours’ in a well-organised manner.

Addition to that, the protestors have blocked the roads illegally near Shaheen Bagh from past many days as a mark of protest against the CAA causing huge traffic jams in and around Delhi. In order to ease the flow of traffic and prevent any future violent riots at Shaheen Bagh, the Delhi police are taking necessary steps and have urged the protestors to leave the place.

Last week, the residents of  Sarita Vihar in New Delhi held a protest on Sunday demanding the removal of barricades and blockage on road number 13A between Mathura Road and Kalindi Kunj, in order to ease traffic movement. The blockage of roads and bus stop is causing huge inconvenience to the local residents and had urged the Delhi police to clear the roads.

The police have registered a case under sections 294, 323, 452, 307 of the IPC and also under the SC/ST Act against Chuttu, Azzu Pathan, Kallu and Irfan. Three of them have been arrested by police in the case, while the fourth is absconding.

Madhya Pradesh BJP has alleged that more people were involved in the case but police not taking any action against them due to political reasons. Madhya Pradesh BJP chief Rakesh Singh said that out of 15 to 20 people who had attacked the Dalit man, only 2-3 have been arrested. He said that only formalities have been done in such a shocking incident because Congress is playing the politics of vote bank and appeasement.

Rakesh Singh said that before the attack, Dhaniram had lodged a complaint against the accused persons, pleading the police to protect him from them, but police took no action. He said that Dhaniram had gone to the police station at least 3 times. The BJP leader said that had the police taken action on the complaint, this incident would not have happened.

On Saturday leader of the opposition Gopal Bhargava went to the hospital in Bhopal to meet the victim. He said that five days ago people from minority community burnt Dalit Dhaniram alive. He alleged that police are working to shield people from a particular community on the pressure of the government.

Sagar MLA Shailendra Jain said that despite a fight between the two sides two days, police took no action, and this resulted in the incident. He added that the accused are fearless and there is no law and order in the state.

Diary of a Delhi Liberal: We celebrate the day we got freedom from Kashmiri Hindus, but Shaheen Bagh has become a bit of an albatross

Dear Diary,

In a little bit of hurry today as we have to get ready for “Jashn-E-Azaadi”, the day when Kashmir attained freedom from Kashmiri Hindus. It has been 30 years since we attained freedom there and it is the perfect day to launch our freedom struggle for Delhi.

It won’t be an easy task to free India diary, there are so many communal people in this country who are against our Azaadi struggle. Communal Tanhaji has become a runaway hit while our comrade Deepika’s Chhapaak turned out to be a major flop, despite the free distribution of tickets to millions of our supporters at Shaheen Bagh, the film refused to take off.

Talking of Shaheen Bagh, it has become a bit of an albatross around our neck, diary. How to get out of it without it looking like a defeat? We try to make it look like an inclusive protest by signing those songs that Sanghis call National Anthem and National Song etc but then some over-enthusiastic comrade starts attacking Hinduism and it ends up looking like a communal protest.

Read: 19th Jan: On a day Kashmiri Pandits were driven out of Kashmir by Islamists, Shaheen Bagh protestors to ‘celebrate resistance’

The masses turn against us and then we organize an all religion program or something but then again an Anti-Hindu poster surfaces. We need the enthusiasm of these fanatics but can they keep control of themselves for a few days, we are trying to build a narrative here. It is not easy to tell Hindus that the Swastika in our posters is not the Swastika in your temples, ours is drawn using a marker.

The traffic jams due to Shaheen Bagh have also started to hurt us. The fascism enablers living in Delhi value their time and money above our freedom struggle, insensitive Sanghis. They don’t know that this is what used to happen in Nazi Germany, people complaining about traffic jams, that is how the whole genocide of Jews started. These ignorant people with no knowledge of history refuse to accept this and continue to repose faith in fascist democracy.

This is all starting to sound a bit gloomy, diary, so some positive news. This week, we got a new ally in our fight for the poor and downtrodden, Jeff Bezos. The benevolent billionaire is our new champion in the fight against fascism after BJP Government said that Amazon India will have to follow Indian laws.

We hope that he notices our support and becomes a new source of funds for our NGOs. Once he starts donating money to our NGOs, we can finally help so many poor people. Our cousin was asking for a new villa in Tuscany, we were looking for a new apartment in Manhattan, our aunt wanted a new country house outside London, all can be arranged if this fish falls in our net.

Anyway, off to make preparations for the KP exodus celebrations diary, see you in a week with hopefully more positive news.

Biggest takeaway from Saif Ali Khan interview on Tanhaji: He doesn’t give a damn about politics, he only cares about his career

A viral clip of Saif Ali Khan from an interview with ‘Film Companion’ on Tanhaji has gone viral on social media where he can be seen making problematic comments regarding Indian history. In the clip, he also says that “I don’t think this is history,” referring to the blockbuster movie Tanhaji, where he features as the main negative lead. Most controversially, however, the actor says, “I don’t think there was a concept of India till the British gave it one”.

For a person who has the reputation of being a ‘history buff’, Saif Ali Khan’s knowledge of history is really terrible. The concept of India has always existed, it has existed for as long as the Hindu Civilization has flourished and our civilization has flourished for thousands and thousands of years. Different names have become popular at different times. Aryavarta, Bharatvarsha, Jambudwipa, India has been called different names at different points in time but the concept of India has always remained the same. Consequently, the Indian nation-state is the modern manifestation of the Hindu Civilization in a world dominated by nation-states.

Expectedly, Saif Ali Khan is receiving a lot of flak on social media for that comment. Furthermore, Tanhaji the movie was based on true events. It did take some ‘artistic liberties’ but the core of the plot was authentic and most of what it portrayed was accurate. The movie portrays the Battle of Sinhagad where Tanhaji Malusare captures the Fort for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who lays down the foundation for Hindavi Swarajya. Given the political developments in India since Narendra Modi’s reelection as Prime Minister, ‘intellectuals’ believe the movie is in sync with the Hinduization of India.

Saif Ali Khan’s comments on Tanhaji do appear a bit out of line. But when the interview is seen in its entirety, it portrays Saif Ali Khan in a much better light than the ignorant fool he appears in the one-minute clip. He still voices some ignorant opinions, sure, but overall he comes across as much better.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wylUixDml4]

Saif Ali Khan appears extremely uncomfortable discussing the history of the movie and it is evident from the manner in which he conducts himself during the discussion. A lot of the times his statements are contradictory. For instance, Saif says that he would “love” to be part of a movie industry that does not make movies like Tanhaji but at the same time he agrees that role of Udaybhan was just ‘delicious’.

The actor also says that the idea behind Tanhaji is ‘dangerous’ but “Have I taken a stand against it? No. Why? I don’t know.” Unlike situations where actors appear to be putting up an act, Saif appears extremely honest when he says that. Amusingly enough, in the interview, he appears to be denouncing individuals like himself. For instance, he laments the fact that the ‘intelligentsia’ and the artistic community is taking a populist turn but then again, by featuring in Tanhaji, he is guilty of the sins he is lamenting about. It’s like an adulterer lamenting about high divorce rates.

Saif Ali Khan’s way of looking at things is explained perfectly when he admits that he doesn’t believe the turn of events is ‘great’ but states “It’s the way it is”. However, the actor does show remarkable honesty during the interview and certainly more than what propagandists in the garb of historians. He says at one point, “On one hand, I feel that the minute Pakistan was created out of this concept of India, that this was bound to happen.”

The actor then says that some members of his family left for Pakistan and others stayed behind in a secular India but those who left did so because they did not believe India could remain secular after partition. He says, “I fear… maybe it’s taken a couple of generations for the idealists to die away and I feel the direction in which it is headed now will be not secular.”

Saif Ali Khan is correct when he says that the Hinduization of the Indian state was bound to happen and it will happen more and more going forward. Because, as we have said before, Hindutva is the natural order of the Indian state. The reason why Narendra Modi and Amit Shah could fundamentally alter the direction of the secular state of India without any significant violence at all is that the overwhelming majority of the country supports core Hindutva objectives.

The actor also says that at a personal level, his life is better than ever before but as far as India as a secular country is concerned, “I don’t even know if it was a realistic notion to hold on to that idea for too long.” When the interviewer says that the students are fighting for a secular India, Saif’s “Yeah” in response to that comes across as mockery rather than an actual nod of approval.

Saif Ali Khan also says that by making political statements, actors could end up potentially harming others as collateral damage if the movie suffers as a consequence. Therefore, he believes it’s best if actors stay apolitical and let politicians do the politics. When the interviewer asks him if it’s something he struggles with, his response again is “Yes and No.” He does make a very insightful remark about freedom during the interview which liberals would do well to take note.

Saif Ali Khan says, “I do realize there are many places in this world that are different. I mean you think of the United States as being the hotbed of democracy and freedom of speech but not everywhere else is but our ideas, fortunately, or unfortunately, of freedom come from that country but it doesn’t mean you can apply the same thing to the rest of the world and maybe we should come to terms with that, that there will be ramifications to what you say and do.”

Thus, while the one minute clip circulating on social media captures the worst of him in the interview, the entirety of it presents a much better picture. Quite clearly, Saif Ali Khan does harbour some dubious notions about the origins of the country. But seen in its entirety, it appears Saif is one of those Bollywood actors who doesn’t care much about the politics of it all even though he is inclined to associate himself with the liberal crowd by virtue of his Muslim identity.

Saif Ali Khan becomes progressively more comfortable discussing the topic as it moves forward. Initially, he appeared to be agreeing to whatever the interviewer was saying or implying but as it moves forward, he clarifies his own stand on the matter. After watching the whole section, Saif appears to be saying that he has made peace with the fact that India was fundamentally not meant to be a secular country in the way secularism has been understood in this country thus far.

Moreover, he doesn’t believe that he will be personally affected by it in any way. In fact, he says that his life is ‘better than ever’. The core message that he appears he to want to convey but can’t is that he doesn’t believe that the ‘great fight for secularism’ is his fight, he wants no part in it. Saif just wants to be left alone to pursue his own career. He has his own opinions regarding political developments underway in the country but doesn’t believe these are opinions that are worth ‘fighting’ for.

Muslim dominated Malerkotla sits on Dharna to support anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh where ‘Jinnah wali Azadi’ slogans were raised

The anti-CAA protests, especially the Shaheen Bagh ‘protests’ where slogans like ‘Jinnah Wali Azadi’ slogans were chanted, have been turning increasingly communal as the anti-Hindu propaganda of the protestors is finding resonance in Muslim-majority cities.

In one similar protest in the Muslim-dominated city of Malerkotla, people have come together to express solidarity with Shaheen Bagh ‘protestors’ and have been sitting on a ‘Dharna’ against the CAA for the past two weeks near Sirhindi Gate.

According to Census 2011 data, Muslims form nearly 69% of the city’s population.

On Saturday, hundreds of women from the town along with ‘protestors’ from Delhi took out a march from Sirhindi Gate to Kamal Cinema. The protest march was organised by Samvidhan Bachao Sangharsh Committee.

Nadim Anwar Khan, convenor of the joint action committee of the morcha said that over 70 organisations have joined hands for the pakka morcha at Sirhindi Gate. Khan said, “No doubt Punjab has passed a resolution against the CAA in Vidhan Sabha, but we will continue protesting against it till the Centre does not recall it,” Khan said.

The protest march was led by Delhi University law student Swati, and activists Bibi Zulekha and Harsharan Kaur. “As of now, it is a leader-less campaign. But people from all walks of lives are joining our pakka morcha every day,” Khan added.

It is pertinent to note that the Shaheen Bagh protests, which were actually passed as an organic protest in a bid to ‘save the constitution’ have turned blatantly communal. It was earlier reported how protestors chanted slogans of “Jinnah Wali Azadi”, exposing the claims of “liberal-secular” media, who had earlier passed of these protests as peaceful.

Later, another Hinduphobic poster came up at the protest site in which the Hindu Swastika was depicted wrongfully and shown crushed by Hindu women in Burkha.

The blockage of roads and bus stop is causing huge convenience to the local residents and had urged the Delhi police to clear the roads.
