US naval base shooting: Saudi Air Force trainee watched mass shooting videos before launching the attack

0

The Saudi Arabian Air Force trainee who had fatally shot three sailors at Pensacola naval base in Florida hosted a dinner party earlier in the week and watched videos of mass shootings along with three others before the attack, reports Associated Press.

According to a US official, the Saudi Arabian Air Force trainee named Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani and his three friends watched videos of mass shootings before he killed three and injured eleven others when he opened fire at a naval base in Florida.

Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, opened fire inside a classroom at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola early Friday morning. The police had quickly responded to the scene and shot dead the shooter. The suspect was a second lieutenant attending the aviation school at the base. He referred to the United States as ‘a nation of evil’ before he went on his shooting rampage.

Six other Saudi nationals were arrested near the base shortly after the attack, as investigators began to probe a terror link. Three of the six were seen filming the entire incident as it unfolded. Two other Saudi students watched it from a car, an official said.

Following the deadly attack, officials investigating the case are working to determine whether it was motivated by terrorism. US President Donald Trump has indicated he would review policies governing foreign military training in the United States.

Ten Saudi students were being held on the base on Saturday while several others were unaccounted for, said another official.

A US official on Friday said the FBI was investigating social media posts to determine whether he acted alone or was connected to any broader group. Two other US officials speaking to AP also confirmed that authorities were investigating whether the attack was terrorism-related.

Meanwhile, President Trump has also declined to say whether the shooting was terrorism-related. The President had earlier tweeted his condolences to the families of the victims on Friday and noted that Saudi King Salman had reassured him in a telephone call that the shooter “in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people.”

Reportedly, the United States has a robust training program for Saudis, providing assistance in the US and in the kingdom. Currently, there are more than 850 Saudis in the United States for various training activities. They are among more than 5,000 foreign students from 153 countries in the U.S. going through military training.

According to Fox News, Saudis have been received training at the Pensacola Naval base since the 1970s, with as many as 20 students from the Middle Eastern country studying in each class.

However, many of these trainees belong to the Saudi Royal Family, putting pressure on officials to pass pilots through the training program in an attempt to preserve diplomacy with the US ally. Many US military pilots have complained for decades that some of the Saudi pilots are not safe flyers.

NAS Pensacola has more than 16,000 military and 7,400 civilian personnel, according to its website. The Naval Base in Florida is one of the US Navy’s most historic and storied bases. It sprawls along the waterfront southwest of downtown Pensacola and dominates the economy of the surrounding area.

#MeToo: One of the accusers of Utsav Chakraborty retracts, says ‘I was unnecessarily cruel about a minor thing’

The Utsav Chakraborty-Mahima Kukreja saga continues to unravel. On Saturday, Aditi Murti, one of Utsav’s accusers, retracted her allegation on the social media platform. She shared screenshots of the conversation she had with Mahima Kukreja during the whole controversy last year.

Murti said that she was ‘unnecessary cruel’ about a ‘very minor’ thing. She also said that Utsav did not try to harass her or send her anything inappropriate or encourage her to do anything illegal.

In the screenshot, Aditi Murti can be seen telling Mahima that when she was 17, and Utsav’s username was @SatanBhagat, he had sent his number to her randomly. And when she asked him publicly what was it about, he told that he was ‘just curious’. Then a week later, she received texts from him saying that the earlier messages were from his friends. She says that she found it extremely weird since her age was displayed publicly.

Mahima, for her part, when she is told that Aditi has a ‘story’ about Utsav, tells her “Please tell me. Please.” After Aditi has finished recounting her experience, Mahima tells her, “He was trying to slide into your DMs knowing you’re underage? God this guy is a serial creep.”

Aditi Murti in her apology said that she had believed the allegations that were being made against Utsav Chakraborty and she pointed out the incident ‘as a way of doing the right thing’. However, she did not anticipate the scale of the outrage or that his life would be ‘destroyed’ as a consequence. She made the thread so that Utsav’s ‘name is cleared regarding my allegation’.

The allegations she made during the Me Too movement were not worth putting out and it ‘diluted’ the movement, Aditi Murti said. She also says that she believes Utsav was telling the truth when he said a few weeks ago that a few of his friends had pranked him by sending his phone number to random women on the internet.

Aditi Murti said, “I would like to reiterate that  @Wootsaw (Utsav’s username on Twitter) did not do anything illegal, did not send me any lewd messages, nothing. I was sent his number and some prank texts by his friends from his account, and I have enough reason to believe it.”

She added, “I believe I tried my best to only state that it is odd or weird to receive random texts, and that my incidence carries no heft because neither can I prove it and nor was it serious. However, media hype, misreporting and exaggerations spun this into something horrific and wrong.” Aditi Murti also took full responsibility for her own actions and apologized to Utsav for it.

The whole controversy was reignited when an audio clip went viral on social media where Utsav Chakraborty and Mahima Kukrej are heard having a conversation where Kukreja’s sister threatened Utsav with legal action if he released screenshots that could prove his innocence. Later, another longer audio clip emerged where Mahima Kukreja can be heard telling Utsav that the movement will be derailed if both of them got involved in a legal battle.

Following the release of the audio clips, Utsav Chakraborty initiated a crusade against Mahima Kukreja on social media. Mahima then accused Utsav of maligning her reputation. After that, Utsav accused Tanmay Bhat of AIB fame of lying when Tanmay said that the AIB had confronted him about his behaviour. Bizarrely enough, Utsav seemed to suggest that he had sent an unsolicited d*ck pic because he is ‘socially clumsy’.

Pragya Thakur sits on dharna outside police station demanding FIR against Congress MLA for threating to burn her, returns without success

0

BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur sat on a dharna last night outside a police station in Bhopal demanding to register an FIR against Congress Govardhan Dangi, but later returned without success. The controversial leader had approached the Kamla Nehru police station in Madhya Pradesh capital demanding that the Congress legislator should be booked for threating to burn her.

On November 29, the Congress MLA from Biaora had said, “We will not just burn her effigy, if she sets foot here, we will burn her also.” He had said that after Pragya Thakur had remarked in parliament that Nathuram Godse was a patriot. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s response in Lok Sabha came after DMK member A Raja had cited a statement of Godse on why he killed MK Gandhi during a discussion on the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill. Responding to Raja, Thakur had reportedly interrupted to say, “You cannot give the example of a deshbhakt.”

Her comment had caused a huge uproar, and later she had apologised for the same in Lok Sabha. Govardhan Dangi had also apologised for threating to burn the BJP MP, she thinks it is not enough and a case should be registered against him. She had approached the Kamla Nehru police station to register an FIR, but the police refused to do so. She said she was waiting at the police station for two hours but the police were not ready to file a complaint against the Congress MLA.

After that, she sat on a dharna outside the police station. But she later ended her dharna without registering a case, saying that she will approach higher authorities for the same. She said that the police refused to file an FIR due to pressure from the Congress party. According to reports, she was asked by state BJP leaders to end her protest.

Diary of a Delhi Liberal: Maharashtra, Chidambaram and the Telangana encounter

Dear Diary,

What an exciting week we had in our fight to keep liberal secularism alive in this country. The commander of liberal secular forces, the Nelson Mandela of our times, P. Chidambaram came out of jail this week. While Mandela only remained in jail for some 27 years, Chidambaram ji stayed in Tihar for 100+ days so, in some ways, he became greater than Mandela. To be honest, our payments were also getting a bit delayed with liberalism’s financier in jail but we are sure that will be taken care of now and we can go to our annual Bora Bora vacation.

The good news didn’t just come from Tihar, it came from Mumbai as well. Finally, Maharashtra is back in the secular fold after 5 years of communal fascism as secular leader Uddhav Thackeray ascended to the CM chair. It was a fantastic win for the democracy as the public mandate was respected and Uddhav Ji was crowned the Chief Minister. To be honest, it was a bit of relief after the last week where Ajit Pawar turned corrupt and communal for a couple of days. However, the truth finally triumphed dear diary and people got what they voted for. Good to note that Uddhav Ji has started the fight against fascism immediately and halted every infrastructure project in the state. So far, we have been very impressed with his dynamism and his determination to do nothing.

This is just the beginning of the return of the liberal order diary, soon other states will move towards the light, as we expect victories for administrator par excellence Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, honesty personified Lalu ji in Bihar, and free press supporting Mamata Ji in Bengal.

Anyway, enough of the electoral politics diary, there is some worrying news elsewhere. Our beloved leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no security at all right now. Her SPG protection has been removed and now she has pathetic Z+ security with 55 security personnel protecting her. 55, just 55, we drink that many wine bottles in a day, what can 55 men do if Pakistan Army attacks Priyanka Ji? We are trying our best to overturn this decision and hopefully, it will be overturned. Women in India are under threat and providing SPG security to Priyanka ji can really help women all over the country.

Talking about women security diary, we saw Telangana police kill all the rapists in Hyderabad case. We are confused about our reaction to that. We supported terrorist Ishrat Jahan after her encounter but that was easy, we had to target Modi and Shah but what to do after Telangana encounter, we don’t even know if KCR is with us or against us. Anyway, we will wait for Ahmed Sir’s signal before saying anything.

Meanwhile, our battle against fascism continues unabated, dear diary. Rahul Bajaj, a friend of ours, criticised that goon Amit Shah on his face and also told him that there is so much fear in the country that nobody can criticise Amit Shah on his face. We followed that up with 21 editorials, 42 tweets, 13 YouTube videos, and 19 Instagram stories telling everyone how our voices have been shut down and we haven’t been allowed to speak everywhere. Lit fest season will be here soon so we will repeat this in all those festivals as well.

Some good news on the personal front diary, our NGOs to help the poor and underprivileged have been doing so well that we have bought a new beachside property in Odessa. Helping the poor has always been a rewarding experience for us and that continues.

Anaj Mandi Fire: Factory owner Mohammed Rehan detained by Police, the building didn’t have fire clearance and fire safety equipment

0

Forty-three people were killed when a fire broke out at a luggage manufacturing factory on an early morning in Anaj Mandi area of Delhi on Sunday. Now, an FIR has been registered in connection with the fire incident and the case has been transferred to the crime branch for further investigation.

The factor owner Mohammed Rehan has now been detained by the Police. Earlier, it was reported that he was absconding.

As per reports, the owner of the plot is one Mohammed Raheem who had purchased it ten years ago. Later, he had distributed it equally among his three sons: Rehan, Shan e-lahi and Imran. The fire occurred in Rehan’s portion of the factory. Earlier, it had been reported that a case has been registered against the factory owner under section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder punishable with a maximum imprisonment of 10 years).

“An FIR has been registered in the incident under Section 304 of IPC. The case has been transferred to the crime branch now. At 5.22 am, information about fire in a building was received by the police. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. In the rescue operation, we saved around 60 people but unfortunately 43 people lost their lives,” Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa said.

“Prima facie, the fire seems to have occurred due to short circuit. There was a lot of plastic on the premises due to which there was smoke after the fire occurred. The deaths have mostly occurred due to asphyxiation due to smoke. We have shifted most of the injured to LNJP Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital,” he added.

It was also reported that the four-storeyed building didn’t have a fire clearance from the Delhi Fire Service and no fire safety equipment was installed on its premises. Officials said that none of the units had a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department and the congested area made rescue operations difficult.

Over 50 people were inside the building when the fire broke out today morning. 15 fire tenders were sent to the spot after receiving information about the fire, but later 10-12 more fire tenders had to be sent due to the intensity of the fire. Now the fire has been completely doused, officials confirmed.

Two AMU students booked for objectionable post against Lal Krishna Advani on Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

Two students of the Aligarh Muslim University have been booked for an allegedly objectionable post against former Union Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani. The Police said that further investigation is underway and if necessary, action will be taken against the students Talha Manna and Sharjeel Usmani.

Circle Officer, Civil Lines, Anil Samania told reporters, “Anil Chauhan, district spokesperson of BJP Yuva Morcha, along with five-six other people have registered a complaint at Civil Lines Police Station and an FIR against two persons have been lodged due to the “objectionable post” by them on social media, under IT Act and Section 153 A.”

As per some reports, the name of the District Spokesperon of BJP Yuva Morcha is Prateek Chauhan. Chauhan, in his complaint, said the students had shared a post on Facebook that called for a protest at the Kennedy House lawns in the University to mark the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. As per Chauhan, the post stated “Punish those guilty of Babri Demolition” and had a picture of senior BJP leader L K Advani. He accused the students of “disturb the peace of the city by holding protest against Babri mosque demolition and undermining the Supreme Court’s recent judgment” in the Ayodhya case.

Usmani believes that the Police were trying to intimidate him by filing the case. “They don’t want us to remember Babri Masjid. But we will never forget and never forgive the people, who were involved in the destruction of Babri Masjid,” he told Outlook. “There were five speakers, including myself and Talha Mannan, all university students, who addressed the gathering. The meeting ended peacefully and we all went back to our respective hostels,” Usmani said. He also said that such a meeting has been organized every year to mark the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.

Reconstruction of crime scene would not happen without ‘permission from above’: Telangana minister hints at CM’s approval for encounter?

In a first such official admission from the Telangana government regarding its alleged role in Friday’s Hyderabad encounter, in which four men accused of raping and killing a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad were shot dead, a senior minister in the K Chandrashekar Rao-led state government has revealed that the encounter would not have happened without permission from the top.

According to the reports, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who holds the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry portfolio, said that the “reconstruction of the crime scene” that led to the encounter killing in the wee hours of Friday in Hyderabad “wouldn’t have happened without permission from above”.

Senior state minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that there was “pressure for immediate action” against the culprits following the rape and murder of the vet. He said that it was doubtful if justice would have been served through courts since the Indian judicial process “will go on forever” while crediting the Chief Minister for the police encounter.

Talasani Srinivas Yadav has also stoked a fresh controversy by claiming that they have sent a message across the country that if a person does something wrong, there will be an ‘encounter’.

Responding to a question whether an encounter could have happened without the knowledge of the top leadership, he said, “Correct. You know, the reconstruction of crime happened with instruction from above. 100%. Telangana state is very strong in taking immediate action,” said Yadav.

Asserting that his happiness about the encounter killing of the rape accused, Yadav said, “All over India, people are happy. I feel proud to be part of this Cabinet.” He said this was a message for all over India. “A message for (the protection of) our girls when there are so many rape cases,” he added.

Yadav further pointed out that it has been seven years since the December 16 Delhi gang rape happened. But nothing has happened, he added.

“It was an important case for the whole world, for India. So it is a message that there is no law at all. People go to jails, come out and get the opportunity to do crimes again. This is the condition in India. So, in this case, this (the encounter) is a strong message all over India,” Yadav said.

Tavleen Singh endorses Ummah, confuses CAB with NRC to say Muslims will turn Jihadis if illegal infiltrators are not given citizenship

Tavleen Singh, the mother of Aatish Taseer, has been miffed with the central government ever since her son’s OCI card was revoked and understandably so. Since then, she has been engaging in rants against the government that make little sense, motivated, of course, by the apparent misery of her son. In the latest episode, the topic Tavleen Singh has chosen to attack the government on is the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

In an article for The Indian Express, Tavleen Singh claims that Muslims are being targeted through the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The language that she uses in the articles makes it hard to know whether she is talking about the CAB or the NRC. Perhaps, in her mind, both are the same issue but in reality, they are vastly different.

Tavleen Singh in her article about Citizenship Amendment Bill writes, “There are things about the citizenship Bill that are deeply disturbing. Not least is the manner in which Home Minister Amit Shah routinely makes clear that it targets Muslims.” Amit Shah has never said any such thing. The CAB seeks to provide citizenship to persecuted religious minorities in neighbouring countries. It’s remarkably obtuse to suggest that Muslims in other countries are being targeted through the CAB.

Read: India: A land with Hindu consciousness, which will forever be a natural home for Hindus

Tavleen Singh further writes in the article, “Most of the “termites” that Shah so despises are very poor people who usually do not have documents to prove if they are Indian or not. They will now be at the mercy of officials who more often than not will use the law as a new source of inhumane extortion.” Here, it becomes obvious that Singh conflates the issue of NRC and CAB.

Amit Shah has never used the word ‘termite’ for any Indian Muslim. He used the analogy to refer to illegal immigrants who have caused a massive demographic shift in the North East and West Bengal. It’s ridiculous to claim that Indian Muslims are being targeted if people raise the issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh. Furthermore, the NRC is a necessity if we are to have a strong and secure nation. And those who do not find a place in it will be given ample opportunity to prove their case. Therefore, it’s extremely cynical to suggest such a thing.

Read: As Congress opposes CAB, here is what Manmohan Singh had said in support of the bill in 2003

The most obnoxious bit of the articles comes when it says that the CAB has nothing to do with partition. She says, “As someone who belongs to a family of refugees from Pakistan, may I tell you that the “fallout” of Partition was dealt with long ago. This new law is nothing more than a majoritarian and very ugly exercise to prove to Indian Muslims that in the ‘new India’, they have a lesser place than Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians and they better get used to this.”

It’s very much unclear how does prioritize religious minorities from neighbouring countries for citizenship makes Indian Muslims second class citizens. Indian Muslims have nothing to with the CAB and they are not affected by it in any manner whatsoever. It appears as though Tavleen Singh is feeling victimized on their behalf even when they have no cause to feel that way.

Read: Explained: How Citizenship Amendment Bill embraces the history of India

And CAB has everything to do with Partition. Liberals want us to believe that India began from a blank slate on the 15th of August, 1947 and when the new Constitution came into effect on the 26th of January three years later, the past magically ceased to matter. However, nations don’t think like that. A state cannot hope to prosper if it detaches itself completely from the factors that brought it into existence.

Regardless of what liberals might say, India does have more of a responsibility towards non-Muslims in neighbouring countries than the Muslims. It’s because India was partitioned on the basis of religion, India has no responsibility towards the descendants of those who engaged in a civil war so that their children could live in an Islamic State.

Tavleen Singh displays her great ignorance about the illegal immigrant problem when she writes, “If we had a situation similar to what exists on the southern border of the United States, or what happened in Europe when the Syrian war caused a mass migration, this amendment may have had some meaning, even in its current discriminatory form. But, this is not the situation we face.”

Read: Islamist organisation PFI that hosted Hamid Ansari opposes Citizenship Amendment Bill, gives away PoK to Pakistan

Quite clearly, Tavleen Singh has no clue about what’s happening in the North-Eastern regions of the country. Towns and villages have changed so quickly that it could very well be labelled as a demographic invasion. Moreover, India shouldn’t care about what Europe is doing or what the USA thinks. The security of our people and the stability of our country matters more than approval from the West. It might be hard for Tavleen Singh to believe that but it is how it is.

To conclude her article, Tavleen Singh engages in massive hyperbole. She says, “With the second-largest Muslim population in the world, we have contributed the least number of holy warriors to the worldwide jihad. But how long will things stay this way?” Thus, according to her, Indian Muslims may start waging a Jihad against India because of the CAB and NRC which does not affect them in any manner whatsoever. It’s as much a preposterous argument as it is dangerous.

The arguments made by liberals often appear to lay the groundwork for the justification of Jihad. If Tavleen Singh is to be believed, CAB and the NRC are valid grounds for Indian Muslims to feel disenfranchised enough to start a new Jihad. It’s a deplorable argument of the highest order. Jihad is not justifiable by any means and yet, here we see Tavleen Singh make the same argument.

Read: Here is why we need a global publicity strategy for Citizenship Amendment Bill

It should not come as a surprise to anyone. Liberals have justified the Jihad in Kashmir for long. They seriously appear to believe that Jihad is caused by government policies and not the diktats of their religion and the toxicity that is spread by the Maulvis and the Maulanas. Should India suffer another civil war in the future, it appears that the liberals will claim that India had it coming because of the policies it implemented to augment its own security. It appears liberals like Tavleen Singh will blame the government for Muslims waging Jihad against the Indian State and not the problematic aspects of their religion. And that is cause for much concern indeed.

Tavleen Singh in her article about the Citizenship Amendment Bill appears to be making the argument that not only should the Government be careful to not offend the sentiments of Indian Muslims, they should also take care to not offend the Ummah. Nothing else explains why Indian Muslims should feel victimized by the CAB, it has got nothing to do with them at all. But Tavleen Singh here is convinced that the CAB, which does not provide a certain privilege to Muslims from neighbouring countries, will cause Indian Muslims to start waging Jihad against India. It appears she does believe in the Global Ummah after all. And not only is she confirming her belief in the Ummah, she certainly appears to be advocating on behalf of it as well.

Mumbai Mirror tries to garner sympathy for officials being investigated for corruption in the production of Vande Bharat train

Today the Mumbai Mirror published a story on the ongoing vigilance probe related to the procurement of various items for the Vande Bharat Express train, also known as train 18. Several officials from the various departments of the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, where the train is being made, are being questioned by the Chief Vigilance Officer of ICF in this regard, but the Mirror seems to be batting for the officials as they have tried to imply that there are vested interests behind the probe.

The reports by Mirror quotes the officials saying that the probe has been launched by the Railway Board to sabotage the Vande Bharat project. The report states that nine officers have been sent questionnaires regarding alleged irregularities in the procurement of the propulsion system for EMU/MEMUs (Electric Multiple Unit / Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) and the Train 18. The officers facing probe alleges that the threat of a vigilance probe is an attempt to get international contractors involved in the manufacture of Train 18. The officers allege that every decision they took is being questioned, and this will instil fear among officials and slow down the decision-making process in the Railways. One officer is quoted by Mirror as saying that the notices sent to them are a clear case of a witch-hunt.

The Mumbai Mirror report comes across as defending the officials facing probes of corruption. According to Railway sources, several complaints have been received related to the procurement of various items at ICF, particularly propulsion systems. Accordingly, the GM of the ICF Board had asked the CVO of the ICF conduct a detailed investigation, where a number of irregularities were detected in the procurement process of the propulsion system by ICF. After that, questionnaires have been sent to all concerned officials. These include five from Electrical, four from Mechanical, one from Finance & one from Store departments, which means a total of eleven officials are under the scanner by the vigilance.

Also Read- Exclusive: Railway officials clear the air on Vande Bharat Express and the alleged ‘derailment of production’

Some of the irregularities noticed in the procurement of propulsion system of EMU/MEMU trains, as per Railway Board sources, included irregularities noticed in the finalisation of eligibility criteria which was tweaked to favour certain parties specifically a Hyderabad based company. Further, the Railway Board guidelines for such tenders were ignored.

Apart from these, several irregularities were detected procurement of propulsion system for Vande Bharat, which included the tender for the propulsion system being awarded to a favourable party and only a single tender being released. The RDSO specifications were ignored and the delays in the supply were not fined. In fact, OpIndia has learnt that several aspects did not meet RDSO standards and some shortcomings were pointed out in the current rake of Vande Bharat.

Therefore, there have been serious allegations of irregularities at ICF, and the authorities are probing the same as per established rules. To allege the motives behind the investigation will mean encouraging the irregularities and defending the accused officials.

Moreover, the allegation of the officials that the probe is aimed at derailing production of Train 18 at the ICF to favour foreign manufacturer also does not have any basis. An answer by Railway minister Piyush Goyal at the Lok Sabha on 27th November states that a total of 160, 240 and 240 coaches of the train will in made at the ICF in 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. Two rakes of the train have already been put into service in Delhi-Varanasi and Delhi- Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra routes.

This is not the first time that malicious reports have been published to allege that the Train 18 production at the ICF is being affected due to investigation of irregularities. Earlier also such claims were made, which were denied by the Railway authorities.

Devendra Fadnavis reveals that Ajit Pawar had said Sharad Pawar knew of alliance, lashes out at development projects being cancelled

The Maharashtra drama recently came to an end when Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in as the chief minister in alliance with Sharad Pawar led NCP and Sonia Gandhi led Congress. Before the drama ended, in the wee hours of the morning, Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the deputy CM and Devendra Fadnavis as the CM before the alliance falling apart in 3 days. At the time, Sharad Pawar had claimed that he had no knowledge of the alliance between Ajit Pawar and BJP led by Devendra Fadnavis in the state and had categorically distanced himself from the alliance.

However, in an interview to a TV channel, Devendra Fadnavis has now claimed that Ajit Pawar had told Fadnavis that Sharad Pawar knew of the alliance being entered into by Ajit Pawar. In fact, he has also claimed that most NCP MLAs knew about the alliance and Fadnavis himself had spoken to some of them.

Read: Here are the 5 things that Ajit Pawar told NCP leaders about why he chose to ally with BJP in Maharashtra

Fadnavis said that Ajit Pawar had told him that he did not want to form a government with Congress and that a three-party alliance would be unstable for the state. He had then told Fadnavis that Sharad Pawar was aware of the plans. He also revealed that the alliance talks between Ajit Pawar and BJP were ‘on for a few days’ and that such alliance talks are not finalised in a few hours or 1-2 days.

Interestingly, hinting at much more, Fadnavis also said that the subject of the meeting between Sharad Pawar and Prime Minister Modi has not been revealed fully and there are many things that happened behind the scenes that will be revealed when the time is right.

In this interview, Devendra Fadnavis also lashed out at the Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP alliance for putting crucial development projects on hold. He said that projects can always be reviewed and there is nothing wrong with it, however, when the state government is creating an environment where big projects are scrapped, how are investors going to invest in the state.

He also said that at the request of Uddhav Thackeray, he had decided to give the new government a chance but he had his doubts about the alliance since the three parties were ideologically not aligned.

After the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, Shiv Sena had decided to break its alliance with BJP because Uddhav Thackeray wanted the Chief Minister post for either his son Aditya Thackeray or himself. BJP had flatly refused and said repeatedly that giving the CM position to Sena was not discussed when the alliance was formed. Shiv Sena, in its desperation for power, had then turned ‘secular’ and allied with Congress and NCP to become the CM of the state.
