Targeting of minorities continues in Bangladesh, police arrest prominent Hindu journalist: What happened

On Saturday (30th November) night, a prominent Hindu journalist named Munni Saha was arrested by the police from Karwan Bazar in Dhaka city of Bangladesh.

According to reports, the victim was surrounded by a mob after stepping out of a media office at Janata Tower. The mob heckled her, blocked her way and demanded her trial.

Soon after, the police were called in, and Saha was arrested at about 10 p.m. on Saturday. She was thereafter taken to the Tejgaon police station and then shifted to the office of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch.

She was later released on payment of a bond under Section 497 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Munni Saha will now have to seek bail from a court and adhere to police summons.

She is the Editor of the online news portal ‘Ek Takar Khabor’. Munni Shah, a prominent journalist belonging to the Hindu Faith, was targeted following the undemocratic ouster of Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister.

She was booked along with 7 other journalists in a ‘murder case’. A 17-year-old rioter named Nayeem Howlader, who participated in the violent ‘student protests’, was shot dead by the police in Jatrabari.

After the fall of Dhaka, Munni Saha was falsely implicated in the case of Nayeem Howlader’s death. As part of the witch-hunt, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit directed banks in October to share her account details.

Attack on Hindus in Bangladesh

The Hindu community has faced the brunt of Islamist onslaught since the 5th of August this year.

There have been at least 205 attacks on Hindu temples, shops and businesses since the ouster of Sheikha Hasina as Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

We previously exposed how Muslim students have forced as many as 60 Hindu teachers, professors and government officials to resign from their positions.

“Kill Modi”: Khalistanis in Canada shout slogans against PM Modi, disrupt consular camp for Indian pensioners at Lakshmi Narayan Temple

On 30th November, pro-Khalistan elements protested against the Indian government outside the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The protests occurred despite court orders prohibiting such activities.

The Khalistanis protested outside the temple while Indian consulates in Canada were conducting annual consular camps to assist elderly Indian nationals living in Canada by providing life certificates.

Notably, such certificates are vital documents required for pension disbursement from the Indian government. These camps have become regular targets for pro-Khalistan elements in Canada, who have been using intimidation and protests to disrupt the efforts of the Government of India. Previously, several camps were cancelled due to security challenges at multiple locations across Canada.

The protesters were seen gathered outside the temple, waving flags, raising slogans, and using sound systems to intimidate attendees. These camps cater to elderly pensioners from diverse religious backgrounds, including Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, and Christians, who attend the camps peacefully to access the services provided by the Government of India. However, they have now become focal points for political hostility.

A video on the matter was shared by Daniel Bordman, Senior Correspondent for The National Telegraph, who covered the protests. In his report, Bordman said, “What these Khalistanis are protesting is simple reverse remittance—money earned by Indian pensioners being sent into Canada. Their aim is to destabilise India-Canada relations and disrupt social harmony here. These groups are influenced by foreign powers, particularly Pakistan and China, and are actively working to sow chaos.”

He added that people from diverse religious backgrounds attend such camps and that the claims made by the Khalistani protesters are baseless. He stated, “There’s no conspiracy by the Indian government inside these camps. I’ve seen Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians peacefully collecting their pensions. The protesters’ claims are baseless, and their actions are dangerous, as they incite violence against community spaces like temples.”

In a video, pro-Khalistan elements were heard chanting “Kill Modi” wishing for the death of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. In another video, they were heard chanting “Who killed Nijjar, Indian Government”.

Court steps in to ensure safety

Amidst the rising tension around these camps, the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario intervened and passed an order prohibiting the protesters from gathering within a 100-metre perimeter of the temple during the camp. The court order explicitly recognised the potential harm posed by the protesters. The court order stated, “On the balance of probabilities, the applicant has satisfied the elevated requirements of a motion for an injunction restraining the protesters from encroaching the 100-metre perimeter of the applicant’s temple… Harm does not end with violence. Intimidation of elderly persons attending the temple for administrative consular services and for worship is harm to them and to the community the temple represents.”

The court further directed law enforcement agencies, including the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, to enforce the restrictions. Officers were authorised to “arrest and remove persons, objects and structures violating” the injunction, including those impeding access to the temple or intimidating its visitors. A similar injunction had earlier been granted to the Khalsa Diwan Society’s Ross Street Gurdwara in Vancouver, which hosted its consular camp peacefully under police protection.

Security challenges and cancellations in Canada

The targeting of these camps has raised concerns about the security of Indian diplomatic efforts in Canada. Notably, in early November, a consular camp at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton faced a violent invasion by pro-Khalistani elements. The violence led to multiple arrests, and following the incident, Indian consulates cancelled several camps, including one at the Vaishno Devi Mandir in Oakville, citing insufficient security from the Canadian authorities.

Furthermore, it was reported that consular camps in certain locations had to be relocated or cancelled entirely due to threats of violence. The Indian Consulate in Toronto publicly expressed its concerns, stating, “Even minimum security guarantees are not being provided, making it unsafe for attendees and organisers.”

Attack on Hindu temple in Brampton and Surrey amidst ongoing consular camp

Hindu temples in Brampton and Surrey were attacked by Khalistanis when a consular camp to help locals was underway on 3rd November. In Brampton, Khalistanis were seen barging inside the Hindu Sabha temple premises with sticks and assaulting the worshippers who tried to stop them. The Indian High Commission has stated that despite requests to provide support amid potential threats to the place, the Canadian police allowed the violence to happen.

Bangladesh: Islamists make genocide calls against Hindus with religious slurs, trend #TMD or ‘Total Malaun Death’ on SM platforms to rally extremists

Amidst the ongoing persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, social media platforms are rife with posts calling for the total annihilation of Hindus. Islamists on Facebook and X are sharing pictures bearing the religious slur TMD or Total Malaun Death, with Malaun being a dehumanising reference to Hindus.

More than 200,000 posts with hashtag ‘TMD’ have already been made in Bangladesh, the South East Asian nation that has been marred with anti-minority violence since the ouster of Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina in August this year.

A raft of Islamists in Bangladesh are calling for the destruction of Malaun, a derogatory slang equivalent to kaafir that Islamists often use to degrade non-Muslims and normalise atrocities against them.

One of the posts going viral on Facebook endorses TMD while insulting the Indian flag.

Not just Facebook, but Islamists from Bangladesh have also leveraged the microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to trend #TMD and rally extremists against the beleaguered Hindu minorities. As witnessed in the past, social media platforms have the power to mobilise like-minded people towards a common goal and have often been employed by religious bigots to push their ulterior motives.

Many on X have raised alarm over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, haplessly exhorting its interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus to take concrete action to stop attacks against Hindus and other minorities. But the government, propped up by Islamists themselves, has found little political will to act against its benefactors, turning a blind eye to the predicament of religious minorities as extremist mobs go on a rampage attacking commercial establishments, places of worship, and residential colonies.

But the explicit calling of the annihilation of Hindus in Bangladesh has heightened concerns, especially in the aftermath of the arrest of prominent Hindu leader and ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das earlier this week. Besides, the Bangladesh government, in its affidavit in the High Court, referred to ISKCON as a “religious fundamentalist group”—providing a grim picture of the plight of Hindus in the country. Das was arrested following his emergence as the champion of minority rights in a nation convulsed by Islamist supremacism.

Unabated persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh

Even as the interim government in Bangladesh has opened a front against ISKCON, the persecution of Hindus has been going on unabated since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, a leader who had managed to leash the Islamist impulses of the extremists with her strict policing controls. But minorities, especially Hindus, have been at the receiving end of Islamic wrath, with their shops, temples, and houses attacked by fundamentalists who seek to purge the country of its non-Muslim minorities, following her departure and installation of Yunus at the Centre.

On Friday (22nd November), a frenzied Muslim mob attacked Hindus who were en route to the Mahiganj College ground in the Rangpur division of Bangladesh. The victims wanted to participate in a protest rally organised by the ‘Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jot’, seeking the implementation of 8 demands by the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government. Similar attacks against Hindus have taken place in different parts of the country, underscoring threats faced by minorities in a country where Islamists appear to have established their stranglehold.

Muhammad Yunus-led government releases Al-Qaeda-inspired terror outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani

While Hindus have been an existential threat in Bangladesh, the Muhammad Yunus government had gone into an overdrive to appease the Islamists back home, chiefly with the release of the chief of the Al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist organisation Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) chief Mufti Jashimuddin Rahamani from jail, prioritising appeasement of extremist components over the safety of country’s minorities.

The Maharashtra Assembly election results were declared on November 23, with BJP-led Mahayuti alliance storming back to power with a landslide majority. The ruling alliance, however, is yet to finalise its Chief Minister face.

After a man tried to throw some liquid on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi on Saturday, a blame game has started between AAP and BJP. While AAP has claimed that the attack was done at the behest of BJP, the BJP leaders have claimed that it was a drama by Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi CM Atishi claimed on X that a BJP worker attacked Arvind Kejriwal in broad daylight, adding that BJP is feeling very nervous about losing the Delhi elections for the third time. She claimed that while BJP won 8 seats in last assembly elections, this time the party will win zero seats.

Official X account of AAP also claimed that Arvind Kejriwal was attacked by BJP, calling the party ‘shameless’. It tweeted, ‘Shameless BJP again got Kejriwal attacked. Kejriwal was attacked by BJP during his march for raising questions on the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi‼️ Amit Shah’s failure has once again become public knowledge, there is no rule of law in Delhi but the rule of BJP goons. If a former Chief Minister is not safe in the country’s capital, then what will happen to the common man?’

AAP further added, “Delhi’s law and order situation has completely collapsed under BJP rule.”

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also blamed BJP for the attempted liquid attack, alleging that earlier also BJP had carried out attacked on the AAP supremo. He said, “There are continuous attacks on Arvind Kejriwal. BJP attacked him in Nangloi. He was attacked in Chhatarpur. The law and order in Delhi have collapsed and the central government and the Home Minister are not doing anything.”

BJP, on the other hand, called the incident a stunt by AAP, noting that Arvind Kejriwal is regularly attacked with slaps, inks etc before elections. Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, “Our Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdev has been consistently saying that all of Arvind Kejriwal’s political strategies are failing. Now, he might resort to his oldest tactic, which involves creating drama and seeking sympathy. Today, such an incident has occurred. We urge the Delhi Police to take strict action against those involved, conduct a thorough investigation, and reveal the truth behind this incident.”

Praveen Shankar Kapoor denied BJP’s role behind the incident, saying that the Delhi BJP condemns all forms of violent protests.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that locals in the area confronted Kejriwal about issues like polluted water, and denied BJP’s link to the incident. He also accused AAP of exaggerating the  incident.

In the meanwhile, after the man who attempted to throw a liquid at Arvind Kejriwal was beaten up by AAP supporters, he has been detained by Delhi police. The man has been identified as Ashok Jha, who works as a Bus Marshal at Khanpur Depot. Police sources said that the attack by Jha was foiled and he was immediately caught as the police staff was nearby along with ropes. The incident took place in Greater Kailash during the former Delhi CM’s padayatra.

A probe has been launched to find the motive behind the act.

Rohingya infiltrator arrested in Varanasi after reconnaissance of key sites including Gyanvapi, had forged Indian identity documents

0

On 29th November, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Mohammad Abdullah, a Rohingya infiltrator from Myanmar. He reportedly conducted reconnaissances of four key locations in Varanasi, including Gyanvapi. According to media reports, Abdullah entered India illegally via Bangladesh and obtained forged Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar, voter card, and PAN card.

He was living in the Durgabankati area of Medinipur district, West Bengal. On 28th November, he arrived in Varanasi by train and was seen visiting several locations, including Uday Pratap College and three mosques in areas like Dalmandi. On 29th November, he reached Gyanvapi and tried to interact with local residents, which raised suspicions.

Notably, recently the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board claimed that Uday Pratap College in Varanasi is located on Waqf property.

The ATS was alerted about his activities. He was apprehended by the ATS at Varanasi Cantt station, where he was preparing to board a train back to West Bengal. During interrogation, Abdullah confessed that he facilitated the illegal entry of Rohingyas into India via Bangladesh. Other accused in that case included Abu Saleh Mandal, Abdullah Ghazi, and Sheikh Najibul Haq.

The investigation into the matter is underway, and the ATS is looking into Abdullah’s activities and network, specifically focusing on his infiltration routes, forged documentation, and intent behind his reconnaissance of the sensitive locations in Varanasi that led to his arrest.

Atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh: RSS issues statement calling for immediate halt to the violence against Hindus

0

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) issued a statement calling for an immediate halt to the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. The RSS condemned the attacks, killings, looting, arson, and inhumane acts against Hindus and other minorities in the country by Islamic extremists, describing the situation as deeply alarming.

The statement criticized the current Bangladesh government and its agencies for remaining silent and failing to take action against these attacks.

The RSS expressed concern over the rising oppression and injustice faced by Hindus, particularly in the wake of peaceful demonstrations led by the Hindu community to protect themselves. These protests, which are a democratic response to violence, are being met with increasing repression.

In particular, the RSS condemned the unjust imprisonment of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who has been leading peaceful protests on behalf of the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The arrest of a religious leader who is advocating for the rights of Hindus is seen as a violation of justice.

The RSS has appealed to the Bangladesh government to ensure the immediate cessation of violence against Hindus and to release Chinmoy Krishna Das from prison.

Furthermore, the RSS urged the Indian government to continue its efforts to prevent the persecution of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh and to take swift action to build global support for the cause. At this critical juncture, the RSS called on India and the global community to stand in solidarity with the victims in Bangladesh, urging their respective governments to take every possible measure to end these atrocities, in the interest of world peace and brotherhood.

Meanwhile, expressing concern over the rise of “extremist rhetoric, increasing incidents of violence and provocation”, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that India has consistently and strongly raised the issue of targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities with Bangladesh government.

While addressing a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged Bangladesh’s interim government to take steps for protection of minorities.

Jaiswal said, “India has consistently and strongly raised with the Bangladesh government the threats and targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities. We made our position very clear as far as the situation of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh is concerned. The interim government must live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities. We are concerned about the surge of extremist rhetoric, increasing incidents of violence and provocation. These developments cannot be dismissed only as media exaggerations. We once again call upon Bangladesh to take all steps for the protection of minorities and safeguarding their interests.”

The MEA spokesperson called ISKCON a “globally well-regarded organisation with a strong record of social service. He expressed hope that legal processes will be dealt with in a fair, just and transparent manner.
