Bareilly: Attempt to rape minor Dalit girl after kidnapping her at gun point; Rashid and his father arrested, two other accused absconding

A case of Dalit oppression has come to light from Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. In this case, four accused from the Muslim community have been accused of kidnapping and attempting to rape a minor Dalit girl. The kidnapping of the girl was apparently done at gunpoint. The family members who went to rescue the victim were subjected to caste based abuses and were given death threats by the accused. The incident took place on Monday (May 20, 2024). Police have arrested 2 accused in the case and search is on for the absconding accused. The matter is under investigation.

This incident took place in Deoraniyan police station area of Bareilly. On Wednesday (May 22, 2024), the victim’s father lodged a complaint in the police station in this regard. In his complaint, he told that there was a program at his house on 20th May. The same night, their 16-year-old daughter was going to her uncle’s house at around 11:30 PM, when the victim met Rashid on the way. He showed a gun to the minor, and took her with him to a garden. Here, the accused molested the minor, and even tried to rape her. It is alleged that Rashid had also called his accomplices Ashfaq and Ishaq’s son Nanne to the spot.

All these accused allegedly tried to take the victim to some other place from there. It is further stated in the complaint that Rashid’s father Nanhe also reached the spot. He started asking the accused to take the victim somewhere far away as soon as possible. Meanwhile, after the victim didn’t reach her home for a long time, her family members, and the relatives who had come to the program, started searching for her. Some people went towards the forest while searching. Before the accused could succeed in taking the victim somewhere else, the girl’s family reached there.

The accused became enraged after seeing the victim’s family members. The accused used Casteist abuses against the victim’s family members and threatened that if any action is taken, they will kill them. The victim’s family members took the help of ‘dial 112’ service of Police and somehow rescued the minor. Seeing the police being called, the accused fled from the spot. While leaving, Rashid showed the gun to the victim’s father and said, “If you open your mouth anywhere, we will kill you.”

The complainant said he is scared and demanded strict action against the accused. Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR under sections 363, 354 (b), 504 and 506 of the IPC along with POCSO and SC/ST Act. Rashid, Ashfaq, Nanhe and Nanne have been named in the FIR.

On Friday (May 24, 2024), the patrolling police force received information about the presence of the accused at one place. They raided the place and arrested Rashid and his father Nanhe. Both have been sent to judicial custody. The search is on for other absconding accused. OpIndia has the FIR copy.

Gujarat: Woman impregnated, assaulted and abandoned by Hussain after she refused to convert to Islam, extorted lakhs from her, his father also molested her

A Sikh woman from Anjar in Kutch has accused a Muslim youth from Jamnagar of impregnating her in the name of marriage before abandoning her. She also charged that he tortured her both physically and mentally as well as forced her to convert to Islam. A First Information Report was registered after she submitted a complaint at the Anjar police station and further investigation is underway. The accused has been identified as Hussain Baloch.

OpIndia has a copy of the FIR. She stated in the complaint that she was introduced to the Muslim male by a known Muslim couple after which he promised her marriage and she moved to live with him along with her son at his residence. However, he forced her to have an abortion twice and she was later tortured there. Furthermore, a video of her recounting her experience became viral on social media.

According to the information, the victim who is originally from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur has been living in Gujarat. She is a divorcee and has a 10-year-old son from her husband. The marriage ended due to some disagreements. She and her son stayed together alone. Her brother is in the construction business, who builds and sells houses while she used to put them on rent.

A Muslim young man named Sameer and his spouse came to stay in one of these houses in June 2021 which she used to frequent to collect rent. The two reportedly pressured her to get married in the Muslim community, but she was not ready. A few months later, in September he summoned her claiming that her aunt’s son Hussain, a native of Jamnagar, wanted to meet her. She informed that she yielded to his persuasion after refusing earlier and met the Muslim youth.

She unveiled that she was told to get married to him at the house but she turned down the proposal citing religious differences and returned from there. However, after a few days, Hussain contacted her and started talking to her. He wanted to begin a romantic relationship but she rejected him. He even sent her his pictures and called her repeatedly in order to push her to tie the knot with him. According to the complaint, the female succumbed to his pressure and travelled to Jamnagar in November 2021. She went to his house to meet his family where she spent the night and disclosed that the offender had sexual intercourse with her despite her protests.

Forced to embrace Islam, Hussian taught her son to offer namaz

She stayed at Hussain’s house for two days and came back to her place. Afterwards, she discussed the marriage proposal with her family who expressed their opposition and warned that they would end all connections with her if she tied the knot with the perpetrator. However, she then took her son and went to his place but to her shock he claimed that the Nikah (Islamic wedding ceremony) could not take place until she became a Muslim because they belonged to separate religions.

An argument broke out between the couple after she refused to comply. Meanwhile, she, her son and Hussain had already started living in a new rented house in Jamnagar. However, he regularly compelled her to change her religion even there, based on the complaint. She highlighted that the culprit was also directing her son to offer namaz and thrashed him when he resisted. He also fought with her and beat her brutally. In the meantime, Hussain’s father Akbar was also supposed to come to live with him and he found a new house and shifted there.

She got pregnant and had abortions

The female stated that she got pregnant and Hussain gave her medicines to abort the baby. She then conceived again and he did the same. Afterwards, Hussain, his brother Feroze and his wife brought her to the hospital after she became pregnant for the third time to discuss abortion but she rejected and came back home. She also accused Akbar of molesting her, in the complaint along with the physical and psychological abuse she endured at the hands of Hussain. He beat her whenever she raised the matter of marriage and ordered her to kill the baby in her womb first.

Distraught, she eventually moved back to her home and threatened to file a police complaint after which he came to live with her. Meanwhile, she gave birth to a son in July of last year. She once more brought up marriage and he barked, “You didn’t listen to me and didn’t get an abortion,” and left her. She also spoke to her family but even they didn’t support her after which she registered a complaint on 9th May.

She voiced that Hussain’s family beat and tortured and threatened to kill her if she notified the authorities. She also mentioned that he had also extorted 9-10 lakh from her. She even alleged that he had seduced other Hindu girls as well.

Anjar police registered a case, LCB is investigating

The Anjar police have filed cases against six people including Hussain, his brother and father, Sameer and his wife and Feroze under Sections 376(2)(n), 328, 354, 323, and 114 of the Indian Penal Code as well as Section 83 of the Juvenile Justice Act in response to the victim’s allegation. According to reports, after the matter came to light, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi has also taken cognizance and transferred the case to the Local Crime Branch (LCB). Currently, the police are investigating the matter.

‘If Congress comes to power in the Centre, we will open the India-Pakistan border’: Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi

On Saturday (25th May), Congress candidate from Jalandhar and Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi courted a fresh controversy while addressing a press conference at his residence in Jalandhar. He said that if Congress comes to power at the Centre, they will open the India-Pakistan border. The development comes days after he received a warning from the Election Commission of India for his objectionable remarks made earlier this month.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Channi said, “After our government is formed at the national level, we will open Punjab’s Wagah Border. This will allow people from Pakistan to come to Punjab for medical treatment. This will promote medical tourism in Jalandhar.” During the press conference, he also claimed that PM Modi’s rally in Jalandhar, Punjab, was a flop show.

Notably, over the last decade, India has followed a consistent policy that terror and talks can’t continue, that is, Pakistan would have to put an end to terrorism to resume bilateral discussions with India. Incidentally, it was Pakistan that suspended bilateral imports of essential items like medicines from India after New Delhi abrogated Article 370 in August 2019.

Congress will start sending messages of friendship to Pakistan if they form government at the national level: PM Modi

It is pertinent to note that a day earlier, PM Modi held a rally in Punjab’s Gurdaspur and Jalandhar. Addressing the election rallies, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and charged it with “speaking the language of Pakistan”. He asserted that Congress will start sending messages of friendship with Pakistan which has been notorious for sponsoring terrorism against India. PM Modi added that several Congress leaders have been making the atmosphere for the same.

Slamming the I.N.D.I. alliance and its strategy concerning National Security, PM Modi said, “These I.N.D.I. alliance people are a great danger to the security of the country. They are talking about reintroducing Article 370 in Kashmir. They want terrorism back in Kashmir. They want to hand over Kashmir to separatists again. They will send messages of friendship to Pakistan again. They will send roses to Pakistan. Pakistan will carry out bomb blasts.”

He added, “There will be terrorist attacks on the country. Congress will say, we have to talk no matter what. For this, Congress has already started creating an atmosphere. Their leaders are saying, Pakistan has an atomic bomb. Their people are saying, we’ll have to live in fear of Pakistan. These I.N.D.I. alliance people are speaking Pakistan’s language.”

Incidentally, several Pakistani individuals including Former Minister in Imran Khan’s cabinet, Fawad Chaudhry had earlier made tweets in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Responding to the same, PM Modi said, “The interesting thing is that Congress is dying here and Pakistan is crying. You must have heard that now Pakistani leaders are praying for Congress. Pakistan is eager to make ‘Shehzada’ (Rahul Gandhi) prime minister. You must have seen it yesterday. We already know that Congress likes Pakistan. The alliance between the two has been completely exposed,” in an election rally in Gujarat’s Anand on 2nd May.

ECI warns Former Punjab CM over his remarks on Poonch terror attack describing it as ‘Stuntbaazi’

Meanwhile, the recent controversial remarks by Former Punjab CM Chani come two days after the Election Commission of India issued him a stern warning for violating the Model Code of Conduct. An official of the poll body said that the Election Commission has issued a strict warning to the Congress candidate from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The EC advised and warned Channi against repeating such violations in the future and emphasised the importance of adhering to the MCC guidelines in letter and spirit, the spokesperson of the poll body said.

The warning came after the commission found his response “unsatisfactory” and deemed his earlier remarks a violation of the MCC clause which provides – “Criticism of other political parties, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programme, record and work… Criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be avoided.”

The development pertains to his remarks made on 5th May when he alleged that the recent terror attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy was a “Stuntbazi” by the BJP. Claiming that these were not terror attacks, the Congress leader had described it as “Stuntbaazi” alleging that the BJP orchestrated such incidents to sway elections. He further alleged that such attacks are premeditated and executed to bolster the electoral prospects of the BJP.

‘Mamata Banerjee has transformed Keshpur into Pakistan’: Poll violence continues in Bengal, BJP candidate gheraoed by TMC goons

Amid the 6th phase of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, chaos broke out in the Ghatal constituency after BJP’s agent was not allowed to enter the polling station by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons.

On learning about the matter, BJP candidate (Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency) Hiranmoy Chatterjee reached the polling station. His convoy was stopped by TMC goons, who prevented him from entering the Keshpur area by setting fire in the middle of the road.

The TMC goons also gheraoed the vehicle of the BJP candidate and endangered his life. This was despite the fact that 919 companies of central forces were deployed to maintain the law and order situation in West Bengal during elections.

An angry Hiranmoy Chatterjee lashed out at the security forces for not taking action against the TMC ‘goons ‘lungi army’ who surrounded him on all sides.

“Officer-in-Charge of Keshpur Amit Mukherjee and Officer-in-Charge of Anandpur Sunny carried out bombing throughout the night, ransacked houses, and thrashed our workers. They even took away our polling agents,” he stated.

“I will do as much as I can throughout the day. If you want to save democracy, then, you have to fight alone. Let the people of Bengal see. Those who sit in AC rooms in Kolkata and talk big must come and visit Keshpur,” the BJP candidate further emphasised.

After the mob of Trinamool Congress goons prevented him from reaching the polling station, he lamented, “Mamata Banerjee has transformed Keshpur into Pakistan.”

Chatterjee was earlier hounded by the West Bengal police on the directives of Mamata Banerjee government. On Wednesday (22nd May), he informed that the Ghatal police raided the house of his secretary Tamoghno Dey at 3 o’ clock in the night.

“This is the democracy in West Bengal,” he added.

Hiranmoy Chatterjee (also known as Hiraan) is an actor by profession and was elected the MLA from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency during the 2021 Vidhan Sabha elections in West Bengal.

EC exposes Trinamool Congress over claims of ‘BJP tags’ used in EVMs

The Election Commission today addressed the Trinamool Congress’s claim that EVMs “labelled with BJP tags” were utilised in the Bankura district.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party shared two pictures of EVMs with paper tags labelled “BJP” on X, stating, “Smt. @MamataOfficial has repeatedly warned that @BJP4India is attempting to rig votes by tampering with EVMs. Today, in Bankura’s Raghunathpur, 5 EVMs were discovered with BJP tags.”

The post added, “@ECISVEEP should investigate this immediately and take corrective action.”

In response to the accusation, the Election Commission tweeted, “During commissioning, common address tags were signed by the candidates and their agents present. Since only the BJP candidate’s representative was present at that time, his signature was taken for commissioning the EVM and VVPAT.”

The tweet continued, “However, the signatures of all agents present at polling stations 56, 58, 60, 61, and 62 were obtained during the poll. All ECI norms were followed, the commissioning was entirely under CCTV coverage, and it was duly videographed.”

Today, eight Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal are voting in the sixth phase of the general election. The BJP, which performed impressively last time by winning 18 seats, aims to increase its tally this time. Meanwhile, the Trinamool is striving to regain some of the seats it lost in the 2019 polls.

Opposition can perform ‘Mujra’ before their vote bank, but I will always stand with reservations for SCs/STs/OBCs: PM Modi in Bihar

On Saturday, May 25, addressing a political rally in Bihar’s Patliputra, PM Narendra Modi said that the opposition is indulging in vote bank politics, and doing everything to appease their target vote banks.

Opposing the religion-based reservations, PM Modi said that the Opposition (INDIA bloc) can perform “mujra” (dance) before their vote bank if they want, but he will not let them snatch away the reservation benefits of the SC/ST/OBC communities guaranteed by the Constitution of India. PM Modi also said that if the opposition wants to live a life of servitude in front of their vote banks, they are welcome to do so but he will not compromise on reservations of the backward classes.

PM Modi said, “Bihar is the land which has given a new direction to the fight for social justice. I wish to declare on its soil that I will foil the plans of INDIA bloc to rob SCs, STs and OBCs of their rights and divert these to Muslims. They may remain enslaved and perform ‘mujra’ to please their vote bank.”

PM Modi also highlighted that to make their vote bank happy, Congress changed the law linked to minority institutions. After the change in law, SCs/STs/OBCs stopped getting reservations in these institutions and were denied their rights.

Referring to the Indian Constitution, PM Modi said, “Our constitution says that there will be no reservation based on religion in India. Babasaheb Ambedkar used to say that there would be no reservation based on religion. But RJD-Congress want to give reservation to their vote bank based on religion by ending the quota of SC/ST/OBC.”

Earlier, speaking to Doordarshan on the topic of Muslim reservation, PM Said, “Muslim reservation, PM Modi asserted, “People say that Narendra Modi is against reservation for Muslims. However, the reality is that our Constitution says this. From Babasaheb Ambedkar to all intellectuals, they have said the same thing. I also say the same. I oppose giving reservations based on religion because the Constitution considers everyone equal. Therefore, if someone says that they belong to a particular religion and should receive reservations, that will not happen.”

Referring to the Calcutta High Court’s recent decision where it cancelled OBC certificates issued by the West Bengal government since 2010, PM Modi said that this decision is an eye-opener for the country as to how you (the opposition) are snatching away the rights of OBCs. By the way, Delhi’s Shahi Pariwar (a dig at the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty) did not accept OBCs since the time of Jawaharlal Nehru. This continued until the government of VP Singh. These people have always hated OBCs. They have always been enemies of OBCs. But when the OBC reservation started, they created the Karnataka model to loot the rights of OBCs by including Muslims in it. Mamata Banerjee is accused of doing the same thing, which the court took notice of and cancelled it.

Pune Porsche road rash: Accused teen’s family threatened, kept hostage driver Gangadhar to take blame for the incident, says Police Commissioner

Amid the ongoing investigation of the Pune car accident case which claimed the life of two youths, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar revealed details regarding the initial statement of the driver and subsequent actions taken by the police and said that at the first instance, the police disbelieved the driver’s statement in which he claimed that he was driving the car.

“When the driver was first brought to the Police Station from the spot, the first statement which he gave in writing was that he was driving the car. But the Police at that point in time did not believe the statement of the driver and after a preliminary inquiry, they registered an offence against the juvenile accused because it was evident prima facie that the juvenile accused was driving the vehicle,” Kumar said.

“The family threatened the driver to take the blame. The driver was kept confined. The driver wasn’t behind the wheel. Family (of accused minor) tried to bribe the driver,” the Pune Police Commissioner said.

The Pune Police Crime Branch unit on Saturday morning arrested the grandfather of the minor accused of killing two motorcycle-borne persons in Pune City earlier this week after ramming into them the luxury car he was allegedly driving.

The commissioner of Pune city police, Amitesh Kumar said that the grandfather of the accused was arrested. A separate FIR has been registered against him under IPC sections 365 and 368.

The Pune City Police had on Thursday questioned the 17-year-old’s grandfather in connection with the incident that took place early on Sunday morning in Pune’s Kayani Nagar. The accused teenager was reportedly driving a luxury car in an inebriated condition and hit two motorcycle-borne IT professionals identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.

Along with the grandfather of the accused- Surendra Kumar Agarwal, his son Vishal Agarwal has also been booked in the same FIR under IPC Sections 342,365, 368, 506 and 34 on the complaint of the family driver, Gangadhar, Pune Police CP said.

The driver Gangadhar had lodged a complaint with police alleging that he was taken to Surendra Agarwal’s home against his will on the night of May 19 when Gangadhar was leaving the Yerawada Police Station.

Surendra and his son Vishal allegedly threatened Gangadhar, snatched his phone and forcibly kept him confined in their bungalow in an attempt to force him to take responsibility for the crime instead of his minor grandson.

The accused has been detained at an observation home on the order of the Juvenile Justice Board. He was earlier granted bail in the case but later sent to the observation home for 14 days till June 5.

The accused teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, who was arrested earlier, is lodged in Yerawada Central Prison after he was granted judicial custody for 14 days.

The Pune Police commissioner earlier said that efforts were on to try the minor accused as an adult.

He confirmed that an effort was made to frame the person employed for driving the Porsche car after the accident, and added that police are investigating his statement.

Newslaundry misleads about appointment of Election Commissioner, ropes in SY Quraishi who wanted PM Modi to be infected with Coronavirus

Ahead of the 6th phase of Lok Sabha elections in the country, Newslaundry sought to cast aspersions on the integrity of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (24th May).

In a misleading video published on its YouTube channel, the co-founder of the leftist propaganda portal Abhinandan Sekri claimed that the Modi government removed the Chief Justice of India from a three-member panel meant to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners.

“Months before the election, the government introduced a bill that removed the Chief Justice of India from the panel that decides India’s Election Commission. So now there are two people who represent the government and one the opposition. So they’re always going to win,” he alleged.

The propaganda artist insinuated that the Election Commission of India is now working under the influence of the Modi government as the selection panel comprises two members of the government and only one member of the Opposition.

Abhinandan Sekhri also lamented the removal of the Chief Justice of India from the selection panel, suggesting it as an unprecedented move to his gullible audience.

In India’s independent history, a three-member selection panel has never appointed the Election Commissioners. As per the Convention, the Central government recommends the name to the President, who then appoints the CEC and other Election Commissioners.

Judicial activism and course correction

In March 2023, the Supreme Court of India resorted to judicial activism and tried to snatch the power of the Central government to appoint members of the Election Commission.

In an unprecedented move, the apex court ruled that a 3-member selection panel, comprising of the Chief Justice of India (CJI), Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition would jointly appoint the Election Commissioner until a law on the same is framed by the Parliament.

The dangerous precedent laid by the Supreme Court was corrected when the Modi government introduced The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Terms of Office) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha.

Both the Houses of Parliament eventually passed the bill and it became a law. The government thus removed the CJI from the selection panel and replaced him with a member of the Cabinet.

The government made it stand clear before the Supreme Court in March 2024. It said, “The case of the petitioners is premised on one fundamental fallacy that the independence can only be maintained in any authority when the selection committee is of a particular formulation…The high constitutional functionaries ought to be presumed to act fairly and in good faith”…“To indicate, as the petitioners suggest, that selection committees without judicial members would invariably be biased is wholly incorrect”.

The government further added, “Where the Constitution itself specifically vests Parliament with the power to decide upon the appointments of the Election Commissioner, and Parliament exercises this power, no question of Executive overruling (can arise)…The (SC) judgment… had been conscious of the fact that the ultimate decision-making power in this regard lay with Parliament and so it had consciously evolved a time-limited mechanism for appointments to the EC. This mechanism was to last only till the time that Parliament made a law on the subject.”

After hearing the arguments made by the government, the Supreme Court refused to put a stay on the implementation of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023

Contrary to the past appointments of Election Commissioners, the selection panel for the first time had the Leader of the Opposition.

True to his vicious ideology, the co-founder of Newslaundry withheld this crucial piece of information to denounce the Election Commission of India and its fairness.

Newslaundry ropes in former Election Commissioner

This did not stop Abhinandan Sekhri from fearmongering about the state of Indian democracy and free elections. He continued, “Should this scare us? Is India’s dance of democracy not on a level playing field?”

“Are critics right when they accuse the election commission of being an extension of the party in power?” he further added.

The propaganda artist also roped in Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, the former Chief Election Commissioner appointed by the Congress-led-UPA government in July 2010.

While speaking to Newslaundry, Quraishi brazened out, “People have started losing faith (in the Election Commission).” As expected, Abhinandan Sekhri nodded in affirmation.

It must be mentioned that during the pandemic, Quraishi had indirectly wished that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus infection. He had retweeted a tweet posted by an Islamist handle, wishing death to PM Modi.

A Twitter post retweeted by SY Quraishi wishing PM Modi tested positive for Coronavirus.

In March 2022, the former Election Commissioner courted controversy after he said that the Judiciary should not decide about hijab in schools. He claimed that it was the responsibility of the Maulana (Islamic scholar) to decide religious affairs in educational institutions.

“Will it be right if Maulana starts giving IPC decisions?” he claimed to rationalise his argument.

Gang war in Udupi: Two groups clash as they ram their cars into one another on national highway, two arrested after video goes viral

A man was injured in a brawl between two groups in Udupi, a coastal town in Karnataka. The incident, which took place on the night of May 18, gained widespread attention after a video went viral on social media today. According to the police, six individuals were involved in the fight. Two have been arrested, while four remain at large.

The altercation reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute. A resident of a nearby high-rise captured the incident on video, showing two Maruti Swift cars involved. One car reversed rapidly, hitting the other on the bonnet and emitting black smoke. Men from both vehicles exited and began fighting. During the confrontation, one car struck a man holding a stick, throwing him to the ground and leaving him injured.

Dr Durgaprasad Hegde, an orthopaedic surgeon, shared the video on X, expressing concern over the situation. “Very bad state of affairs. Gang war in Udupi. The incident happened recently late at night, two groups fought on the Udupi-Manipal highway near Kunjibettu. Where is the younger generation heading? Stringent action should be taken against all these culprits,” he commented.

The video went viral just days after at least 86 individuals, including Telugu actor Hema, tested positive for drug consumption following a police raid on a rave party at a farmhouse in Bengaluru earlier this week.

FIR copies in the matter shine a light on the major rave party bust near Electronics City. According to the FIR, the party was attended by 73 men and 30 women.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) will issue notices to those whose blood samples tested positive for drugs and will summon them for questioning.

The rave party case, initially handled by the Electronic City police, was transferred to the Hebbagodi police station before being taken over by the CCB. A case has been registered against 104 individuals.

During the raid, the police seized 14.40 grams of MDMA pills, 1.16 grams of MDMA crystals, six grams of hydro cannabis, five grams of cocaine, a Rs 500 note coated with cocaine, six grams of hydro ganja, five mobile phones, two vehicles (a Volkswagen and a Land Rover), and DJ equipment, including sound and lighting systems worth Rs 1.5 crore.

Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel OBC certificates in Bengal, where Muslims had also been included, is an eye-opener for the country: PM Modi

The Lok Sabha elections 2024 have entered their final week. After voting in the sixth phase today, the last phase of voting is slated to take place on 1st June. In the seventh phase, voting will also take place in Varanasi, where PM Modi is a Lok Sabha candidate. Continuing a series of interviews during these elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sat for an exclusive interview with DD News on Saturday (25th May).

During the interaction, PM Modi said, “I hope that some hardworking people from the opposition will be elected and reach Parliament so that they can criticise the government with data and hard work. This will lead to the development of the country.” PM Modi asserted, “For me, the 140 crore people of my country are a manifestation of God.”

During the interview, PM Modi described the Calcutta High Court’s recent decision on OBC reservations as an eye-opener for the country.

In the ongoing elections, PM Modi has attended more than 350 rallies, public meetings, and roadshows, and remained the busiest throughout the entire election.

According to the Prime Minister, elections are a big celebration of democracy and an opportunity to inculcate the values of democracy in the minds of future generations. The government and political parties should be accountable to the public. During elections, they should present their vision and plans before the country. Misleading the public by making conflicting statements within a month is not right, the Prime Minister asserted.

(Video Courtesy – Narendra Modi YouTube channel)

PM Modi said, ‘I consider elections as a campaign for public welfare. For me, there are two forms of God, Sakaar (one with physical manifestation) and Nirakaar (formless). The manifested form is the 140 crore citizens of my country. For me, elections are like worshipping God. It is a continuous process that intensifies during elections.’

Calcutta High Court’s decision on OBC reservations is an eye-opener for the country

Responding to a query regarding Muslim reservation, PM Modi asserted, “People say that Narendra Modi is against reservation for Muslims.

It is satisfying that now discussion is happening on the issue of development: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I have fought and campaigned in many elections. Earlier, issues like caste and community used to dominate during elections, but my experience from Gujarat has shown that I compelled all parties to focus on development. It is a matter of happiness for me that people have started talking about development. The expectations of the people have increased.”

He added, “Previously, people only hoped for temporary measures like mud-filled roads during floods; that was the extent of their aspirations. But now they demand four-lane roads. This represents a significant change.”

I don’t form opinions through newspapers: PM Modi

Further, in the interview with senior DD journalist Ashok Srivastava, PM Modi said, “I have plenty of resources for information. I don’t form opinions based on newspapers. I don’t follow the tradition of filtering out critical views because of which I get to know all kinds of feedback.”

He pointed out that there had been a tradition that whenever the CAG report pointed out something positive, no discussions were held regarding its findings and it would be ignored. But when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he would give directions to address the shortcomings found in the CAG report. “I am someone who listens to criticisms. In the five-year term, after three years, there were no complaints left. The opposition had nothing left to say because I would also accommodate their problems as well. I would listen to their problems and resolve them,” the Prime Minister added.

Sound Criticism of the government is necessary

Replying to the people who ‘criticise’ him, PM Modi said, “Criticism requires hard work. I have said that 4 crore homes were built, which requires hard work to criticise, something which the opposition fails to do. (Objective) Criticism is essential to run an effective government, but nowadays people do not work hard enough. If my claim of 4 crore homes is to be criticised, then the opposition should thoroughly investigate it. Whether everyone received a home or not, whether anyone had to pay money, what process was followed, what problems arose – if the opposition criticises in this manner, it will be beneficial. The shortcomings that are identified should be addressed, but the opposition is not putting in much effort. I hope that hardworking individuals from the opposition are elected to parliament. Even criticisms should contribute to the enrichment and betterment of the country.”

PM Modi reiterated the same in an interview with News18 where he opined that he missed a strong opposition during ten years of his government which pained his heart.

The nation wants a strong and stable government

PM Modi pointed out that there have been different styles of functioning as far as coalition governments are concerned. PM Modi noted that though Atal Ji’s government was also a coalition, everyone’s responsibilities were defined. Manmohan Singh also ran a coalition government, but there was also a super PM in it. Each ministry considered itself a separate government. The concept of a super PM led to complications. This time too, the I.N.D.I. alliance is preparing for five years with five PMs. These people have done this before, with a scattered system. They are bringing the same concept again. If this is the mindset, how will the country run?, the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi added that when the people of India elected a new government in 2014, not only there was anger towards the old government but also he had a track record in Gujarat. He said that the BJP had clearly stated that we would form the government under the leadership of Modi. The public had a clear vision which is why they chose us. In 2019, they saw the track record of the past five years. The people saw that a stable government was good for the country. In this way, the people of the country are providing a stable and strong government.
