Videos of a drunk woman abusing police, her cab driver, and creating ruckus on the road in Mumbai go viral, here is what we know about the case

Recently, videos of a heavily intoxicated woman abusing police, her cab driver, and passersby on the road have gone viral on the microblogging site, Twitter. The woman, in a series of videos shot by the enraged cab driver and people witnessing her shenanigans, could be seen lingering on the streets while heavily abusing police – allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

It all transpired when three young women were in an Ola cab while allegedly returning from a party late at night in Mumbai. One of the women, who was heavily drunk, started abusing the cab driver during the ride. Apparently, the lady even threw the driver out and took control of the car. As Police arrived at the scene, she held one of the officers by his collar and threatened him.

In the multiple videos that have gone viral, the woman could be seen going completely unhinged because of an alcohol overdose. In the above video shared by Twitter user @pb3060, the woman was standing beside a Mumbai Police vehicle while screening at her friend Roshni. The woman could also be seen heavily abusing anyone passing by on the road.

The driver started recording the video of the woman who took control of the car and refused to come out of the driver’s seat. Even after being repeatedly told by the Police and the driver to get out and behave, the drunk lady did not budge. Unapologetically posing for the video, she could be heard introducing herself with a roaring laugh, “Hello, my name is Archita..”

When a friend of hers intervened to stop her from doing so, she was slapped by the drunk lady instead. The video shot by the driver has made waves on social media, who in the clip could be heard saying, “Let the world know how Ola/Uber drivers are harassed.”

The intoxicated lady created quite a scene when she took over the road lying right in the middle of it. Looking at the condition of her clothes, a few netizens suspected that she might have urinated in her pants. During the fiasco, the woman sat on the road and kept on screaming abuses.

The passers-by were aghast looking at the condition of the woman. When one of her friends tried to control her, the woman slapped her and being unable to control her, fell on the road itself.

The drunken lady challenged that nothing would happen to her even if the police and the media were called. In one of the videos, the woman could be seen holding a police officer by his collar and threatening him with abuses. When the policeman tried to control her, she kicked her in her drunken state.

When OpIndia tried to verify the videos, we found that the case is from March 25, 2022. The Mumbai Police has registered a case against the three women for disturbing public law and order under the influence of alcohol.

All three were taken into police custody and further action is being taken. Mumbai, which has an active nightlife, witnesses several cases of such violations on a regular basis.

France: President Emmanuel Macron loses Parliament majority as Far-Left and Far-Right gain in French elections

Less than two months after being re-elected as the French President, Emmanuel Macron has lost the majority in the French National Assembly severely denting his hopes of pushing through his promised reforms. Strong performances by the left alliance NUPES led by far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally Party in the elections have reduced Macron’s government to a minority in the national assembly.

Macron’s centrist coalition had more than 300 seats earlier and needed 289 seats to retain its majority in the national assembly. However, they fell well short with 245 seats in the election as several high-profile leaders, including Health Minister and Green Transition Minister lost. The election, which saw a very low voter turnout at 46.23%, has delivered a huge setback to Macron who will now have to rely on his opponents to get his reforms passed.

The left alliance NUPES has emerged as the main opposition winning 131 seats while Le Pen’s Rally Party has jumped from 8 to 89 seats. Macron will now have to negotiate with them and seek a compromise every time he wants to pass a bill through the parliament.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who was recently appointed by Macron, called the situation unprecedented and said that they will start working immediately to cobble together a working majority to try and ensure France doesn’t end up with a policy paralysis over the next 5 years.

The outcome has come as a big setback for Emmanuel Macron following his April presidential election victory when he defeated the far-right to be the first French president to win a second term in over two decades. Now he will have to deal with this unprecedented situation in French politics where he will have to run a minority government for the next 5 years.

‘Muslim girl above 16 is competent to marry any person of choice’: Punjab and Haryana HC cites Sharia to justify child marriage

On Monday (June 20), the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that a Muslim girl above the age of 16 years is competent to marry any person of her choice.

The matter was heard by a single-judge Bench of Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi. A Muslim couple from Pathankot, aged 16 and 21 years, approached the court to seek protection from their family members.

The duo informed the court that their marriage was solemnised on June 8 this year in accordance with Islamic rites and ceremonies. They claimed to have received threats from their family members, who disapprove of their marriage.

The counsel for the Muslim couple argued that under Muslim personal law, majority and puberty are considered the same. He added that it is presumed that a Muslim attains ‘majority’ at the age of 15 and contended that such an individual is free to marry anyone of his/her choice.

The petitioner couple had contended that in Muslim law, puberty and majority are one and the same and that there is a presumption that a person attains majority at the age of 15 years.

The Muslim couple alleged that despite requests to the Senior Superintendent of Police (Pathankot), they were not provided with any protection.

Observations made by the Punjab and Haryana High Court

The Court ruled that a Muslim marriage is governed by the Muslim personal law, which allows marriage above the age of 16 years (otherwise barred under The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006).

The Judge noted, “As per Article 195 from the book ‘Principles of Mohammedan Law’ by Sir Dinshah Fardunji Mulla, the girl being over 16 years of age is competent to enter into a contract of marriage with a person of her choice. The boy is stated to be more than 21 years of age. Thus, both the petitioners are of marriageable age as envisaged by Muslim Personal Law.”

The Punjab and Haryana High Court also granted protection to the couple by directing the SSP Pathankot to arrange for proper security measures. “Merely because the petitioners have got married against the wishes of their family members, they cannot possibly be deprived of their fundamental rights as envisaged in the Constitution of India,” it ruled.

The Juge further noted that the Court could shut its eyes to the apprehension of the petitioners about their safety.

Punjab & Haryana High Court allows minor Muslim girl to marry Hindu man

In December last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the police to provide protection to a 17-year-old Muslim girl who had married a Hindu boy against the wishes of her family and relatives.

The court, in its order, noted that being a Muslim girl, she was at liberty to marry anyone of her choice once she attained puberty, implying that the minimum age law for marriage did not apply to Muslims in the country. The court further added that the guardian had no right to interfere.

It is noteworthy that the Parliament had earlier introduced the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill 2021 to increase the marriageable age of girls to 21, equal to that of boys. Furthermore, while introducing the bill, the government said that it would be applicable to every girl irrespective of religion.

Buy one, get one free: Congress holds 2-in-1 dharna at Jantar Mantar, read details

Workers of the Congress Party have once again discovered something thrilling to enliven their otherwise mundane careers. They’ve once again, donned their combat gear, and this time to stage a double protest. One against the ED’s questioning of their supremo Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald scam and the other protesting the Central Government’s Agnipath Recruitment Scheme.

The last exciting job that came their way was instigating, fear-mongering and creating hysteria about the 2020 Farm Bills of the Modi government. The Act merely allowed farmers to trade freely outside APMCs, anywhere within India. The other thing it did was abolish the Essential Commodities Act of 1955, but Congress did all it takes to mislead people by peddling one blatant lie after another about the central government’s farm laws.

Meanwhile, the Congress workers, who had flocked to the streets and sparked mayhem throughout Delhi on Wednesday (June 15), as Rahul Gandhi joined the Enforcement Directorate’s interrogation for the third day in a row have suddenly decided to change their protest strategy. The party workers, who had also called their Wednesday protest a ‘Satyagrah’ have claimed that they would now continue their 2-in-1 ‘peaceful’ Dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“Tomorrow lakhs of Congress workers across the country will continue peaceful protests against the anti-youth Agnipath scheme & against Modi Govt’s vendetta politics targeting its leader Shri Rahul Gandhi, MP. A Congress delegation will also meet Hon’ble Rashtrapati in the evening,” Tweeted senior party leader and former Union minister Jairam Ramesh.

\

On Sunday (June 19), the Congress Party organised a ‘Satyagraha’ agitation led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra against the Centre’s Agnipath Scheme at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and today they plan to continue with their dual-purpose agitation.

During her speech at the protest venue yesterday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed that the scheme would ‘kill our youth, and army, that protects the nation’. She, in fact, went a step ahead to give a call to topple the Modi Government.

“Look in through this Government. Look into the intention of this Government, I urge you. Through Democracy, with peace non-violence and truth, put an end to this government. Your goal should be to topple this government,” Priyanka Gandhi declared.

It may be recalled that last week, the Congress workers have taken to the streets on Wednesday, June 15 to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s summons by ED. In fact, the party workers indulged in arson and burnt tyres on the streets of Delhi to protest. The fourth day of questioning of Rahul Gandhi has begun today (Monday, June 20).

Al Jazeera spreads fake news over Maulvi’s death in Bihar, blames Hindus while local reports suggest family’s property dispute

On June 19, media house Al Jazeera Arabic published a report claiming Hindus killed a Maulvi in Siwan (Bihar). The image posted in the tweet has a message in Arabic that read, “Social media sites are buzzing with pictures of the imam of the mosque of Jeddah after he was killed by Hindus who beheaded him while he was sleeping in a mosque in the village of Khalispur in Siwan, eastern India. Calling for an investigation into the crime and calls for the “Justice of Imam Siwan” hashtag to hold the killers accountable.” (Translated using Google)

The truth behind the killing of Maulvi in Siwan

The reality behind the death of Maulvi in district Siwan of Bihar is far from what Aj Jazeera has claimed. The incident took place on the intervening night of June 9 and June 10, 2022, in Khalispur of Muffassil Police Station area, district Siwan (Bihar). A maulvi identified as 85-years-old Safi Ahmed was found murdered by the locals in the mosque.

As per Jagran’s report, the Police believed he was killed on the pretext of personal enmity over a piece of land. Station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh said a case was filed in the matter based on the complaint of family members, and a probe was initiated. Ahmed was involved in a dispute over land ownership.

The locals came to know about the murder on the morning of June 10 when the sweeper came to clean the mosque. After seeing the dead body, he raised the alarm and called the local villagers. The Police were informed about the incident and took possession of the dead body, and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

Maulvi’s son spoke about the land dispute

In a statement, Maulvi’s son Ashfaq Ahmed said they had an ancestral house in the village. There was a wedding on May 22 of Safi’s elder brother’s grandson. They were asked by his elder uncle Umar Ahmed to leave the house so that guests could come and stay for the wedding. After the wedding, when they came back to the house, one of their rooms was locked. The uncle refused to open the house and threatened to kill Ashfaq and his father. The issue later reached Panchayat, but they could not get justice. His family had already received a judgment from the court five months ago in their favour. The previous court case went on for five years.

After they were stopped from entering their rooms, Safi was planning to approach Janta Darbar at the Police Station on Saturday. He had informed his sons about it on Thursday. Safi had gone to the roof to sleep as it was hot inside the room in the mosque. Later he was killed by unknown assailants.

OpIndia tried reaching out to Muffassil Police Station in Siwan but could not connect.

Finding Manaf: The Kaushik Basu syndrome that is plaguing the country like a storm

If the elites in India and abroad are anything to go by, the Uber/Ola drivers know the pulse of the nation like no other. Because somehow, they have inadvertently given such profound political analysis in just 20 minute cab rides to the economists, journalists, propagandists that one would think the eminent personalities are passing off conversations they have with the voices in their heads as conversations with cab drivers.

One of the first proponents of the phenomena was Cornell University Economics Professor Kaushik Basu (which is why we are humbly naming the syndrome after him).

Here are some examples:

Basu, in October 2021, very conveniently managed to get a Sikh taxi driver in New York who was very well-versed in the new farm laws that were introduced by the government back then. He even refused money for the detour he took so he can finish the speech giving gyaan to former Chief Economist of World Bank.

His cab drivers often take detours because I’m quite certain Basu is a delight to talk to.

Earlier in February this year, he got a Bangladeshi taxi driver who was all praises for former Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh, also an economist who kept India in policy paralysis for a decade during his tenure as PM.

He’s also very humble when it comes to about the trivia he has gathered over the years.

Taking a leaf out of this, many other prominent people have since met taxi drivers who echo exactly same anti-Modi thought which they have been tweeting about.

Here is leftist propaganda site Founding Editor Siddharth Varadarajan having insightful conversation with a waiter in Paris over covid vaccination certificate.

Varadarajan claimed that while at a cafe in Paris, a waiter asked him for his vaccination certificate. According to Varadarajan, the waiter ‘disapprovingly’ compared picture on the vaccination certificate with Varadarajan and exclaimed how it was Varadarajan himself. Varadarajan then said how it was ‘Dear Leader’ (PM Modi) on the certificate and the waiter then wondered why it did not have Varadarajan’s picture instead.

Essentially, Varadarajan, who is an American citizen, was asked to provide for his vaccine certificate in a cafe in Paris and he was able to show how he was fully (or partially) vaccinated in India. But of course, we are to believe the waiter discussed ‘Modi pic’ on the certificate with him instead. Of course, netizens had then pointed out flaws in his well-crafted anecdote which led many to believe he had spun a fiction from a place where sun does not shine.

But then it seems everyone at The Wire is well-versed with conjuring up fantastic fiction.

The Wire columnist one Ismat Ara on Sunday took to Twitter to say how a Good Samaritan tea stall owner came to her rescue as knight in shining armour.

Ara claimed that when she stopped at a tea stall, she realised she got her periods and asked the shopkeeper if he had any sanitary pads. The shopkeeper, Manaf, since Ara was sure to tell us his name, stopped all his work, asked her to sit at the stall (not sure of what happened to existing customers who might have come for tea) and he quickly got on his bike to get her some napkins. He did it because she was like his sister.

I have a lot of questions on this. I am not saying Ara is making up the incident, but I am curious. Was it a tea stall where sanitary napkins are displayed (like some tea stalls display Kurkure and Maggi)? If I ran into such emergency I am likely to go to medical store and not tea stall. What inspired her to ask Manaf about sanitary napkin? I have even more questions but then I would be accused of being a gender traitor. So let me stay quiet before I go even more unhinged.

But at least we got one learning. That when it comes to saving the dignity of women, chaiwallahs are the ones who are rising to occasion.

Alhamdulillah.

Islamist raise pro-Pakistan slogans to greet AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi at Ranchi airport: Reports

On Sunday (June 19), the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi was greeted with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad’ by his supporters when he reached the Ranchi airport, reported Times Now.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The Joint Committee of Magistrate and the Deputy Superintendent of Police have been set up to probe the contentious video.

Meanwhile, the Rachi Senior Superintendent of Police has also constituted a team to investigate the incident. According to a Times Now correspondent, Owaisi had gone to Ranchi to address a large gathering of supporters.

On reaching the airport, one of his supporters raised the slogan ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ 6-7 times. The unidentified Islamist still remains at large. In a video shared by Times Now, a man could be heard yelling pro-Pakistan slogans.

As per the news channel, multiple people may have been involved in the anti-national sloganeering.

Earlier in February 2020, a leftist named Amulya Leona raised slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ at an anti-CAA rally in Bengaluru. The slogans were also raised in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

“The difference between Pakistan zindabad and Hindustan zindabad is…”she was heard as saying before being dragged off stage by the police and those present in the venue.

Prior to that, she had chanted Pakistan Zindabad slogans on stage. However, she could not stay long enough to complete her sentence as Owaisi intervened immediately.

Mahindra Group will welcome skilled and trained Agniveers after 4 years in Armed Forces: Anand Mahindra

On June 20, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra announced that his company would recruit trained and capable Agniveers. He took on Twitter to make the announcement and said, “Saddened by the violence around the Agneepath program. When the scheme was mooted last year, I stated, and I repeat-the discipline and skills Agniveers gain will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group welcomes the opportunity to recruit such trained, capable young people.”

A Twitter user asked him about the kind of jobs Mahindra might offer to Agniveers after four years of service. To which he replied, “Large potential for employment of Agniveers in the Corporate Sector. With leadership, teamwork and physical training, Agniveers provide market-ready professional solutions to industry, covering the full spectrum from operations to administration and supply chain management.”

It is noteworthy that Agniveers will gain a lot of experience and develop different skills during their four years of duty in the armed forces. These skills and experience will help them in getting absorbed in different industries. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that there would be a 10% reservation for Agniveers in Assam Rifles and CAPF. Several states like Haryana had announced that preference would be given to Agniveers in recruitment in PSUs etc., which falls in line with the announcement made by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at the time when Agnipath Scheme was launched.

Agnipath Scheme and protests

The Government of India announced Agnipath Scheme on June 14, which will allow the recruits to serve in Indian Armed Forces for four years. 25% of Agniveers will be absorbed by the Indian Armed Forces after four years, and the rest of them will join back the society. Though Defense Minister made it clear and more announcements related to jobs after four years would follow in the next few days, violence erupted in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand and Assam.

Opposition leaders, including the Gandhis of Congress and professional protesters like Rakesh Tikait, have joined the protests making it clear that the aim is to cause disruption. Priyanka Gandhi openly called for toppling the government at any cost. Rahul Gandhi warned the government of Farm Laws like fate if the Scheme is not repealed.

On June 19, it was made clear by Lt. General Anil Puri, Additional Secretary, Dept of Military Affairs, that anyone participating in rioting and vandalism will not be allowed to join the Armed Forces. He also rejected any possibility of rolling back the scheme.

Karnataka: Over 30 Congress workers detained by police ahead of PM Modi’s visit, were planning to ‘Gherao’ the PM

On June 20, Chikkamagalur Police detained 30 Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Kisan Cell workers in Bengaluru for planning to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the state today.

As per Times Now report, the KPCC workers were planning to ‘Gherao’ the PM. KPCC has announced protests against Agnipath Scheme across the state along with other organizations. A heavy Police force has been deployed in various parts of the state amid PM’s two-day visit. Journalist Imran Khan of Times Now posted a video of KPCC workers getting detained by Karnataka Police. They could be heard raising slogans while being pushed in the Police van.

Agnipath Scheme Protests

On June 14, the Government of India announced Agnipath Scheme for recruitment in the Indian Armed Forces. Owning to the misinformation and provocation by various segments, including opposition leaders, professional protesters and people with a vested interest, there have been incidents of rioting and violence across several states against the scheme. Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have also opposed the scheme. Rahul Gandhi has warned the Government that the scheme would meet a similar fate as the farm laws if not repealed immediately.

Washington: 15-year-old dead, 3 injured including a police officer in yet another mass shooting, here is what we know so far

In yet another dastardly case of a mass shooting, a 15-year-old boy was shot dead by an attacker in the 1400 block of U Street, Northwest 14th and U Street in the Washington State of the United States.

The incident took place on the night of June 19 (US time), 2022. As per reports, a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer and two other adults were also injured in the attack. They are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The suspect is believed to be a black man with curly hair and a height of about 5”4. The shooting occurred during the Moechella event, a music festival conducted to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans (Juneteenth).

In video footage that has surfaced on social media, the cops were seen helping out the victims of the mass shooting.

In a tweet, the DC Police Department informed, “MPD is responding to the area of 14th and U Street, NW, for a shooting incident in which multiple people have been shot, including an MPD officer. Media staging at 15th and U Street, NW. Chief Contee to provide a media briefing.”

While speaking about the incident, DC police Chief Robert Contee informed that the event was unpermitted within the city. He said that he will talk with the Attorney General to discuss whether action should be taken against the promoters of Moechella.

He added that multiple firearms were recovered from the crime scene. “All these events occurred within a span of 2 hours i.e. between 6 pm and 8:30 pm.”

Recent mass shootings in the United States

Earlier this month, three people were killed and 11 others were injured in Philadelphia. As per reports, unidentified attackers went on a shooting spree at the intersection of 3rd and South Street where a large crowd had gathered.

Reportedly, there were multiple attackers who opened fire on the crowd using automatic weapons, which are easily available in US stores. Later, two guns were recovered from the crime scene. The deceased included a 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman.

A 23-year-old man named Joe Smith, who was standing just 10 feet from the crime scene, informed, “Once it started I didn’t think it was going to stop. There was guttural screaming. I just heard screams.”

On May 24 this year, an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 students at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde city of Texas in the United States. The killings came on the day when students were preparing to start their summer break.

The shooter reportedly abandoned his vehicle and entered the school with a handgun and assault rifle. The teenager had shot his own grandmother before going on a killing spree at the school.

The gunman was neutralised by the police officers, the officials said, adding 3 more adults were also killed in the attack. The CCTV footage showed that small groups of children were being rescued through parked cars and yellow buses, even some holding hands as police escorted them from the school.

The attack on the Texas school is one of the deadliest attacks since the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed.
