Turkey-based organisation that hailed Talibani terrorists and Palestinian jihadists behind Twitter storm over anti-India remarks on Prophet Muhammad

Earlier yesterday, a malicious trend took Twitter by storm as bigoted online mob, consisting mostly of Muslim Twitter users, from the Arab world launched a coordinated social media campaign attacking Hindus residing in the middle east and outraging over the alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

Whipped up by accusations of blasphemy, thousands of Islamists and their sympathisers around the world, most notably in India and the Arab countries, started trending ‘إلارسولاللهيامودي’, a message written in Arabic, on Twitter to mobilise support and demand action against the BJP leaders for quoting Islamic hadiths on Prophet Muhammad.

Now, interesting details have emerged about the social media campaign that culminated in the suspension of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal from the BJP after some Islamic nations took cognisance of the Twitter storm and expressed condemnation of the statement made by the leaders.

According to the Twitter account ‘The Hawk Eye’, a social media page known for conducting independent investigative journalism, the Twitter storm was initiated by an Egypt based organisation called “International Organisation for the Support of the Prophet of Islam” (IOSPI). The first tweet by the dubious body that touts itself as an organisation that fights ‘blasphemy’ against the Islamic prophet was posted on Friday, 3 June 2002.

As per its website, it was launched in 2021 in Turkey and prominent Islamic scholars and politicians had attended the same. Khaled Mishal, the head of Hamas’ political bureau abroad, Enver Kılıçarsan, the head of İTTİHADUL ULEMA, Abdulvahap Ekinci, the president of the International Islamic Scholars Organization, and Mehmet Görmez, the head of Institute of Islamic Thought, attended the inaugural event.

After crawling through tweets posted by the dubious body, The Hawk Eye concluded that the propaganda appeared professional and betrayed the involvement of someone who closely followed Indian news. The tweets aimed to whip up hatred and resentment against India carried several matters, from the hijab ban in schools where it was not part of school uniform to unheard of random incidents with ‘hate’ graphics bearing mostly pictures of PM Modi—an insidious attempt to demonise the central government and brand them as anti-Muslim.

For over two days, the trend did not gain traction as desired by its machinators. Then on Sunday, 5 June 2022, it suddenly picked up pace after notable Arab personalities with verified Twitter accounts and news organisations started tweeting about it. Soon thereafter, many people, including those in India, started tweeting about it. At the time of writing the thread, The Hawk Eye mentioned that more than 6.1 lakh tweets were posted, with over 45,000 tweets being posted every hour.

While 76 per cent of tweets were in Arabic, in India, the trend was pushed by AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair, PTI and the South Asian index (Pakistan handle), who used hashtag keywords in their tweets.

Interestingly, the IOSPI had also called for the boycott of French products after French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to free France from the scourge of radical Islam in the wake of the beheading of Samuel Paty, a French teacher who was decapitated by an Islamic terrorist on suspicion of reproducing Charlie Hebdo’s caricatures on Prophet Muhammad.

Hateful SM campaign seeded by radical outfit IOSPI that had glorified Taliban and Palestinian terrorists

The IOSPI marked key events like Charlie Hebdo, French teacher Samuel Paty, France’s retaliatory measure to squelch creeping Islamism etc. as events and parties accused of committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammad. The Muslim Brotherhood inspired organisation has Finance, Legal and Communication wing to prop up their vicious propaganda and mobilise online support to amplify their campaign, creating a diplomatic ruckus for the victim countries.

The head of IOSPI is Sheikh Mohamed Al Sagheer, who had not flinched from lionising jihadists and terrorists in Palestine and Afghanistan. “The future belongs to Islam. Its footsteps can be heard everywhere nowadays. The courage, victory, and glory of the mujahideen in Palestine and the victory of the Taliban fighters in Afghanistan are just the beginning,” Sagheer said.

The IOSPI also enjoys support from Turkey, a country whose headlong rush into the abyss of Islamism seems inexorable and irreversible and whose authoritarian premier, Recep Erdogan, has made a string of anti-India comments.

The malicious campaign by the Islamist organisation caused a diplomatic row for India as many Indian envoys got summoned by the Arabic countries, which themselves have dubious records of safeguarding minority rights, over the alleged ‘blasphemous’ remarks made against Prophet Muhammad.

“Agla Chief Minister NCP se hoga”, says Dhananjay Munde. Congress calls it ‘daydreaming’

A war of words has broken out among the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance members Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress over the Chief Minister post in Maharashtra after the next elections. Currently, the CM post is with the 3rd alliance member Shiv Sena, with party chief Uddhav Thackeray in the chair.

Minister of Social Justice and Special Assistance in the Maharashtra cabinet and senior NCP leader Dhananjay Munde had claimed yesterday that the next Chief Minister will be from his party. Addressing a public meeting in Parbhani city, Munde said, “If a question arises tomorrow regarding whom to hand over the social justice portfolio, whoever would be the next chief minister, and the CM will be ours (NCP’s) only. The CM will say that let the social justice portfolio remain with us (NCP). This department has earned so much reputation.”

NCP has the 2nd largest number of MLAs among MVA members, just behind Shiv Sena, and controls several important portfolios like Finance Ministry and Home Ministry.

Congress calls it ‘daydreaming’

Reacting to Munde’s statement, Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole called it a ‘daydream’.

When asked by media persons for a reaction to Munde’s statement, Patole said, “Most people dream at night, but some dream during the day. Still, it is a democracy and everyone has a right to express their opinion. Every political party has a right to expand.”

The current MVA government in the state has completed two and a half years and the next election is still well over 2 years away, but looks like the argument over the next CM has already begun between the alliance members.

Hyderabad gang rape case: Waqf board leader’s car was taken to a farmhouse, was wiped clean to destroy evidence, say reports

The Hyderabad police are collecting evidence on the rape incident that happened on the night of May 28th in the city’s Jubliee Hill area. As per reports, the accused had tried to destroy evidence of the crime by cleaning the white Innova car, in which the 17-year-old girl was raped. Notably, the names of kins of an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA and a TRS leader have appeared in connection with the gang rape.

The police have invoked Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code (causing the disappearance of evidence of the offence or giving false information to screen the offender) against the accused.

However, despite the accused’s best attempts, the investigators still managed to gather some crucial evidence after examining the recovered red Mercedes and Toyota Innova for close to three hours on Sunday. Notably, the police had recovered the Toyota Innova, the second car used in the crime, on June 4. The first car, a red Mercedes was seized earlier.

While the investigators collected biological fluids, strands of long hair, earrings, and other materials from the Innova, which was allegedly used in the crime, the clues team discovered strands of long hair, a woman’s footwear, face masks, sanitiser, and shuttlecocks among other items in the red Mercedes. Fingerprints have also been collected from both vehicles. All the vital evidence was sent for forensic examination.

It may be noted that when the victim left the pub, she had reportedly boarded the red Mercedes along with a few boys on her way to the eatery at Banjara Hills. The Innova, which reportedly did not have a registered number plate, was used for the crime.

According to reports, after learning of the plaint, the accused had left the Innova car at a farmhouse.

The farmhouse near Moinabad where the accused hid the Innova is registered in the name of a close relative of a political family. The car, incidentally, was discovered to be registered in the name of another woman. Police are now probing how the Waqf Board functionary was using this vehicle as his official vehicle.

Fourth arrest made in the case

Meanwhile, the police Sunday arrested the fourth accused in the Hyderabad gang rape case, who is a minor. The fifth accused, an adult, is yet to be arrested, they said. On Saturday, the police arrested two minors including the son of a senior Waqf board official in connection with the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at Jubilee Hills. A day before, police had made their first arrest in the case, detaining one Saduddin Malik.

The Hyderabad gang rape case

On 28th May 2022, a 17-year-old minor girl had gone to attend a party at the Amnesia and Insomnia Pub in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The party was hosted by two of her friends. Some other boys also had met her in the same pub.

In his complaint to the jubilee hills police station on June 1, the girl’s father said that some boys in a Mercedes car brought his daughter out of the pub and took her in the car, and then gang-raped her.

According to the father’s complaint, his daughter had gone to a party in the pub on the afternoon of May 28. At around 5.30 pm, some boys took her away in a red Mercedes numbered TS09 FL6460. Along with this, some boys came there in an Innova with a temporary registration number.

The father has also stated in his complaint that these boys also abused and assaulted his daughter, due to which she suffered minor injuries on her neck. At that time, the girl was in deep shock and was unable to tell the exact details of what happened.

Based on the complaint of the minor girl’s father, a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 354, Section 376, and Section 323 of the IPC and Sections 9 and 10 of the POCSO Act.

RBI denies reports of issuing currency notes with the faces of Abdul Kalam or Tagore, says no such proposal

A day after media reports claimed that the Reserve Bank of India is mulling new currency notes with faces of other national leaders apart from Gandhi, the central bank has issued a statement denying them.

In a statement, the RBI has stated that currently there is no such proposal to make any changes in the existing currency and bank notes by replacing the image of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others.

On June 5, several media outlets published reports citing ‘government sources’ that the RBI is considering the usage of watermark images of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Rabindranath Tagore on currency notes.

The media reports had stated that RBI and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL) have sent two different sample sets featuring watermarks of the three prominent figures to IIT-Delhi Emeritus Professor Dilip T Shahani and the said professor has been asked to choose one set.

However, the RBI has now denied the reports and has clarified that no such proposal is under consideration.

Delhi police registers FIR against unidentified people over death threats to Nupur Sharma, initiates probe

The Delhi police have registered an FIR and initiated a probe against unidentified people over complaints that former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma was receiving death threats. Sharma has been in the crosshairs of Islamists over her alleged blasphemous comments on Prophet Muhammad.

According to reports, the FIR has been registered under IPC sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence), 506 (criminal intimidation), 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against unknown people.

“Based on the FIR, we have initiated a probe into the matter,” a senior police official was quoted as saying.

The action comes a day after Nupur Sharma released a statement where she alleged a security threat to her family after many media houses published her suspension letter with her address.

On June 5, hours after BJP suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma, news agency ANI and journalists associated with media house NDTV amongst others had published the suspension letter that had her address. ANI later deleted the tweet, but by then, the address was already made public. It is not yet clear how the suspension letter by the BJP reached the media houses without masking her address.

Nupur Sharma then issued a statement on Twitter where she asked the media to refrain from making her address public. She said, “I request all media houses and everybody else not to make my address public. There is a security threat to my family.”

Sharma has since withdrawn her “controversial” comments and apologized, but the threats are still following her around.

“Absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on minorities”, MEA calls out Pakistan’s propaganda to foment communal disharmony in India

On June 6, India called out Pakistan’s propaganda and attempts to foment communal disharmony in India. India also urged the neighboring country to focus on the safety, security, and well-being of its minority communities.

While replying to media queries regarding a tweet by Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and the statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi called Pakistan a ‘serial violator of minority rights’ and said that their statements were absurd.

He said, “We have noted statements and comments from Pakistan. The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone. The world has been witness to the systemic persecution of minorities including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, and Ahmadiyyas by Pakistan.

Bagchi further added, “The Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions. This is quite unlike Pakistan where fanatics are eulogized and monuments built in their honor. We call on Pakistan to focus on the safety, security, and well-being of its minority communities instead of engaging in alarmist propaganda and attempting to foment communal disharmony in India.”

Pakistan’s comments targeting India

In a tweet, the new Pakistan PM Sharif said, “I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India’s BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH).  Have said it repeatedly India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims. World should take note & severely reprimand India. Our love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is supreme. All Muslims can sacrifice their life for the Love & Respect of their Holy Prophet (PBUH).”

Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, issued a statement on June 6, and said, “Pakistan is deeply concerned at the alarming rise in communal violence and hatred against the Muslims in India. Muslims are being systematically stigmatized, marginalized, and subjected to a well- orchestrated onslaught from radical Hindu mobs with full connivance and support of the security apparatus across various states in India.”

It called upon the international community, including the United Nations and OIC, especially their human rights machinery, to take cognizance of and stop the dangerously rising ‘Hindutva’ inspired Islamophobia in India, and prevail upon the Indian authorities to prevent the systematic human rights violations against minorities in the country.

The statement by Pakistan was in sync with the targeted statement issued by the General Secretary of OIC earlier on Monday which was refuted by the Ministry of External Affairs in a strongly-worded statement.

‘You will end up like Moosewala’: Maharashtra govt increases security of Salman Khan after actor receives a death threat

The Maharashtra department of Home Affairs on Monday tightened the security of Bollywood actor Salman Khan after a threat letter was sent to him and his father, Salim Khan, on Sunday, June 5.

The anonymous letter addressed to the actor and his father read, “Salim Khan, Salman Khan bahut jald aapka moosewala hoga KGBLB” (Salim Khan, Salman Khan, very soon y’all will end up like Moosewala).

After the letter was received, the Maharashtra police sprung into action. The actor’s house started resembling a fortress with contingents of police force deployed in and around his Bandra house. The Bandra police also registered an FIR against unknown people under IPC sections 506-II (Criminal intimidation), based on a complaint lodged by Salim Khan.

According to reports, the letter was spotted by Salim Khan’s bodyguards when he went for his morning walk on Sunday. The police revealed that on early Sunday morning, at around 7.40 am, Salim Khan was sitting on a bench at the Bandra Bandstand, which is his routine, after a morning walk when an unidentified man handed him a letter which mentioned a threat to kill the father-son duo. Later, with the help of his security personnel, Salim Khan contacted the police and an FIR was registered

The Maharashtra police are also quizzing Lawrance Bishnoi regarding the threat note sent to Salman Khan. Bishnoi is currently lodged in Tihar Jail since last year when Delhi Police filed a case of anti-organized crime law, MCOCA Act against him and his other gang members.

The letter assumes significance as it comes days after Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was killed by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who had threatened to kill Salman Khan in 2018 when the blackbuck poaching case was in court. Blackbucks are considered sacred among the Bishnoi community.

It may be recalled that Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, a close aide of the feared gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had taken responsibility for the sensational Sidhu Moosewala murder in Punjab. In a Facebook post from his account, Brar took responsibility for the murder of the controversial singer.

The Lawrence gangster group also published a Facebook post confirming that it was them who carried out this killing.

BJP suspends Nupur Sharma: I am sad, disgusted, and worried

It was a Monday morning when Nupur Sharma (the now-former BJP spokesperson) and I sat down for a tête-à-tête. She had already been getting the vilest death and rape threats from the members of a cult who believe in seeing those threats too. During our conversation, which can be viewed on YouTube, I acknowledge I had a strange look of worry that engulfed my face, no matter how hard I tried to look ‘normal’.

OpIndia and I personally, have covered far too many incidents of “Blasphemy violence” to not be concerned. I wouldn’t lie, but in my mind, there was a tiny voice that said Nupur Sharma’s fate was sealed. Much like that of Kamlesh Tiwari, who was arrested for his speech and subsequently beheaded for it.

But then during the interview, Nupur Sharma told me that she was in constant touch with the HMO, PMO and even Mr Devendra Fadnavis had called to tell her that they were standing firmly behind her. “My party is extremely concerned about my safety”, she told me and that eased my worry to a certain extent. There is certainly no amount of protection that could be considered adequate when there are two calls for beheading against you, however, it was some consolation. The powers that be had taken cognisance and Nupur had the institutional support she needed so desperately – or so we thought.

Soon after my interview with her, news surfaced that Nupur Sharma had been suspended from the primary membership of the party. “You have expressed views contrary to the party’s position on various matters”, the suspension read. Pending further inquiry, Nupur Sharma had been suspended from the party.

There was widespread condemnation and outrage from average supporters whose lives would not be diminished by who the party chooses as a spokesperson. Almost immediately, my heart sank. The institutional support Nupur so desperately needed had been taken away from her. One may argue that it is entirely possible that she is still being protected, but for the Islamists who wanted her head, the decision worked like blood being smeared on a hungry lion’s mouth. Nupur had been fed to the wolves, alone, cast aside, humiliated and disgraced. For the Islamists who were baying for her blood, the message was simple – BJP does not endorse the criticism of Islam – nay – even reading of the Hadits – because it may offend the intolerant minority.

Those who support the party unconditionally claimed that this move was done in “national interest”. It turns out, that certain Islamic nations had started dog-whistling about Nupur Sharma’s comments, threatening to boycott Indian products if action was not taken against her. Qatar had even summoned the Indian Ambassador demanding an unequivocal apology for comments “against Prophet Muhammad”. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iran gave statements too.

AltNews’ Zubair celebrated it.

Indian Muslims had celebrated and per the Ummah that they believe in, goaded the Islamic nations to take cognisance. Mohammad Zubair tagged the Indian Embassy of Doha and said that he could provide several such tweet examples where Hindus had made “insulting” comments. The celebratory tweets from these elements had a distinct hint of victory. “She was suspended for insulting Prophet Muhammad” the terrorist allies chimed in.

While the hounds continued to bark, Nupur Sharma’s actual comment was brushed under the carpet. So too was dismissed that in her interview with me, she had categorically said that she did not even give an opinion on their Prophet, all she did, was mention what was already mentioned in their own Hadits. After being angered by comments on the Shivling, she had merely asked if she should start mocking their faith as well, like they mock ours. She had also said that she would be happy to take her comments back if any established Islamic scholar would come forward to correct her – “If I am factually wrong, I will be happy to take my statements back” she had told me.

None of this mattered.

Islamists, the world over, don’t particularly rely on facts and proof. All they need is the word “blasphemy” whispered in their ear and they suddenly turn into those mindless zombies who walk around with their arms extended looking for fresh flesh to chew on and blood to quench their thirst. One recalls the incident in Bangladesh where Hindus were one Iqbal Hussain had placed a Quran in a Durga Puja pandal and it led to widespread violence against Hindus and their places of worship.

In another incident in Sialkot, Pakistan, where a man from Sri Lanka was lynched to death and burnt. Eyewitnesses denied that he had committed any blasphemy, but all it took for a mob of walkers to Lynch and burn a man alive was the mere allegation of blasphemy. There is just no winning with a cult that gets murderously enraged even if they “feel” like the Kafirs have breathed wrong. Frankly, I believe that blasphemy is a mere excuse. They want to murder Kafirs and even a false whisper is considered a good enough excuse to put their murderous dreams in motion.

Nupur Sharma today is dealing with this frenzied mob. She has been declared a blasphemer by the Islamists, by the zombies baying for blood. The last thing she needed was for the institutional support to be taken away from her and for her to be declared guilty by the very party that was supposed to protect her. Those who would like to defend the BJP may say that the party ‘had to act’ given the statements from Gulf countries and that they have not “officially removed her” but “suspended her pending inquiry”, but there mere fact that an inquiry has been ordered and she has been suspended for the duration of that inquiry declares her guilty.

The Islamists demanding her head now know that the BJP is, in its official capacity, considering a statement worth investigating. That it COULD HAVE been an insult to Islam and that if it was, she does not get support from the party. Essentially, the BJP, with one swift move, has declared all commentary against Islam or even the mere quoting from the Quran and Hadit as a blasphemous act, much like the Islamists, that is not to be condoned. Therefore, when critics today say that Nupur Sharma was thrown under the bus, they are not very far off the mark.

Personally, as someone who has been at the receiving end of threats and intimidation when I was in Bengal (where I got immense support from the BJP leadership), I was sad, angry and disgusted by the conduct of the BJP in disassociating itself from one of their own, who frankly, did not even say anything wrong. They threw her to the wolves, to fend for herself and emboldened the barbarians multifold, not just against her, but all of us.

That said, this issue now needs to lead to a far greater realisation than “what BJP did was wrong”. This incident where Islamic nations came together under the Ummah, aided by Indian Muslims, only proves to us how powerless we truly are when up against the global Ummah. The Islamic community has over 50 nations to rally behind their cause and ensure that every slight, every comment, and every incident that they perceive as an affront to their regimental faith is challenged.

Hindus are no match and right now, it almost seems impossible that we would ever reach a stage where we can challenge their propaganda. One has to realise that the Islamists have several avenues to build alliances. They have their Ummah, which essentially deems all Muslims as one separate nation incapable of existing with Kafirs and then they have the global Left that is all too happy to ally with Islamists against any civilisational state that they think needs to be broken up. Hindus, on the other hand, have to fend for themselves. Hindus can’t possibly ally, not as completely, at least, with the Christian Right of the West because the Abrahamic perspective they come from is wildly different from the Indic perspective that Hindus rely on.

Therefore, this is an uneven fight that Hindus are fighting. Think of it as going into a sword fight with a pencil. When Islamists like Rana Ayyub, Mohammad Zubair etc dog-whistle, they get Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia etc to support them, even Pakistan and other Muslim nations, along with the global left. When Hindus need to outrage, they are stuck with writers like me. The plain is not even. The fight is woefully unequal.

In the run-up to the partition, what saved Hindus at least to some extent is the fact that the civilisational battle was geographically confined to India. Even when Muslims were fighting for the Turkish Caliphate, their fight was geographically confined. They massacred Hindus within our borders and while we can safely blame our leaders from then, like MK Gandhi, for allowing Hindus to die, it was still a battle that India was fighting at home.

Today, that has changed. We are no longer fighting the rabid Islamists like the Moplah Muslims or those Muslims who massacred Hindus during Direct Action Day, we are today up against an unseen enemy. The alliance between the global Left, the Islamists, the Periyarists, the Ambedkarites, the Church, and so on and so forth.

What is needed for a vast majority of people, is to hear me be an optimist. “We will not go quietly into the night”, I should say. While we won’t go down without a fight, it almost feels like “going down” is an eventuality that seems hard to escape. I often say I feel like every day, I am documenting our end. End of a grand, ancient civilisation as we know it.

Out of this abyss of dismay, my Wishlist is rather simple. Hindus need to wake up and realise that they are not in a battle of narratives for the benefit of a political party, but in a fight for their lives, for their existence, for their survival. While we have shifted the Overton Window to a level previously thought impossible, in the real world, one still hears deracinated and uninformed Hindus saying that Nupur Sharma should not have “unnecessarily insulted their Prophet”. I wish they understood that they will take a mile if you cede an inch.

Today, you might say it is unnecessary to comment on Islam and “provoke them”. Once you stop Hindus from doing that, tomorrow they will say your “idol worship is unnecessary” because it provokes Muslims who are theologically and ardently against idol worship. Our temples, our rituals, our customs, our traditions, and our entire existence would be deemed as an unnecessary provocation. This attitude is defeatist. With this attitude, we are bound to lose this war and the price we would pay for that loss would be our civilisational demise. It is an attitude that would lead us to our end, and an attitude, that was, unfortunately, also reflected in the plight of Nupur Sharma today.

Police access Whatsapp chats of Kanpur violence mastermind Hayat Zafar Hashmi, 141 chat groups under the scanner over the violence

The Kanpur police have found several incriminating Whatsapp chats from six mobile phones belonging to Hayat Zafar Hashmi, seized following his arrest after the Kanpur violence. Hashmi is a local Muslim leader and identified as the main conspirator behind the violence that erupted in the city’s Parade Chowk on June 3, Friday. Previously, he was also a part of violent demonstrations against the CAA and the NRC.

On 3rd June 2022, after the Friday Namaz, Hayat Zafar Hashmi led people into a protest march in which they forced people to shut down their shops, leading to violence. The mob of violent Muslims pelted stones at the citizens as well as the police force. At least six people were injured in the violence.

According to reports, the Kanpur police came across a WhatsApp group named ‘MM Johar Fans association Kanpur team’, on which the pictures of shops being shut before the violence on June 3 were shared. Notably, Hashmi is the president of this local Islamic organization.

Insha’Allah, thode der mei video aayenge, Rehmani market bandh (Insha’Allah, we will receive a video shortly, bandh at Rehmani market)”, one of the messages read.

Screenshot of a Whatsapp chat recovered from Hashmi’s phone, Source: Republic TV

The police have revealed that a total of 141 WhatsApp groups were found on Hashmi’s mobile, and most of them had conversations regarding the Kanpur clashes. Several other names have also come up after going through the chats who were also active in those groups.

Hashmi’s phones will remain in police custody as they would be looking into each message and trying to find out who else was involved in the group on the day of the violence. Based on the gathered evidence, police would plan their next action.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the day of the violence has also surfaced, showing a group of people carrying petrol from a local petrol pump in PET bottles. This crucial finding comes after police discovered petrol-filled bottles near the clash site, indicating that they were used in an attack.

In a video shared by Republic TV, which the channel claims to be a snippet of CCTV footage obtained by the authorities, a petrol pump staff can be seen providing petrol to some people in a PET bottle. Acting upon this CCTV footage recovered by the Kanpur police, Kanpur District Magistrate Neha Sharma has asked authorities to seize the petrol pump in question. She has also ordered strict action against the pump operators for providing petrol and diesel in pet jars to the rioters.

The Kanpur police had arrested Hayat Zafar Hashmi on June 4, a day after the riots. He is among the 40 accused named in the FIR in the case.

Several people were injured in stone-pelting and violent clashes in the Beconganj area of Kanpur on 3rd June 2022. A total of three FIRs have been registered in the case. After Friday namaz, the perpetrators created a ruckus in Kanpur while protesting against BJP leader Nupur Sharma for allegedly committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Mohammad.

The police have asserted that Hashmi incited the people, which led to stone-pelting and clashes between two groups that left more than 30, including several police officers, injured. He has been detained and taken in for interrogation.

Hashmi had called for the shutdown of the market in protest against Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Islam. He is the president of a local Islamic organization called Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Fans Association and his call for a shutdown triggered an ugly spate of violence after the Friday Namaz. The violence took place on a day when both the Prime Minister and the President of India were in the state.

Who is Hayat Zafar Hashmi, accused of masterminding the Kanpur violence

According to reports, the mastermind of the Kanpur riots, Hayat Zafar Hashmi, has been involved in various anti-social activities for the past few years and has acquired several illegal properties. He runs a ration shop at home under the government quota. Hashmi is alleged to have instigated her sister and mother in a family case, following which the duo immolated outside the Kanpur DM’s office and both of them died in the incident.

It was Hashmi who had gathered the crowd through social media. He is quite active on social media and had provoked people to create nuisance several times in the past. According to the police, he was also a part of violent demonstrations against the CAA and the NRC.

MEA calls out OIC’s ‘motivated, misleading and mischievous’ comments over Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Muhammad

On June 6, the Ministry of External Affairs called out the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s “motivated, misleading, and mischievous” comments on India. MEA official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi while replying to media queries on the General Secretary of OIC’s statement said that the Government of India categorically rejected OIC Secretariat’s comments.

He said, “We have seen the statement on India from the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The government of India categorically rejects OIC Secretariat’s unwarranted and narrow-minded comments. The Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions.

“The offensive tweets and comments denigrating a religious personality were made by certain individuals. They do not, in any manner, reflect the views of the Government of India. Strong action has already been taken against these individuals by relevant bodies”, the statement added.

“It is regrettable that OIC Secretariat has yet again chosen to make motivated, misleading, and mischievous comments. This only exposes its divisive agenda being pursued at the behest of vested interests. We would urge the OIC Secretariat to stop pursuing its communal approach and show due respect to all faiths and religions.”

OIC GS called upon the UN to address ‘practices targeting Muslims’ in India

Earlier, OIC had issued a statement targeting India and urged United Nations to address “the practices targeting Muslims in India.” In its statement, OIC said, “These abuses come in the context of the escalation of hatred and abuse of Islam in India and in the context of the systematic practices against Muslims and restrictions on them, especially in light of a series of decisions banning headscarves in educational institutions in a number of Indian states and demolitions of Muslim property, in addition to the increase in violence against them.”

The OIC’s comments came hours after the statements issued by the Government of India and Bharatiya Janata Party followed by the suspension of former spokesperson of BJP Nupur Sharma and the termination of BJP leader Naveen Jindal from the party. Notably, both Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal have already issued statements taking back their remarks.
