Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is slated to meet VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 runner-up Manya Singh who hails from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh and athlete Priyanka Goswami who belongs to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The stories of these two women are of sheer hard work and perseverance in the face of odds. Coming from humble backgrounds, the two women made their mark in their respective fields. Priyanka Goswami secured a seat in Tokyo Olympics by making a record in women’s 20 km race

Meerut’s Priyanka Goswami is an inspiration to all those women who are toiling to achieve their dreams without being discouraged by the difficulties in their way. Priyanka’s father was a junior clerk in Indian Railways. In one of her interviews, she reportedly said that she started participating in athletic events to get sports bags and also because the winner would get a prize.

Racing against all odds, Priyanka Goswami created a national record in women’s 20 km race walking event. Consequently, she secured her place in the Tokyo Olympics this year. She has also been selected for the Rani Laxmi Bai award.

Manya Singh, an autorickshaw-driver’s daughter

Manya Singh, the runner up to Femina Miss India 2020, could not win the Miss India 2020 crown but she did win people’s hearts with her sheer hard work and perseverance. Her story is an inspiration for all the women who were not born with a silver spoon. Just like Priyanka Goswami, Manya Singh journey has not been a cakewalk either.

Manya Singh’s father is an autorickshaw-driver. She revealed how she went without food and sleep during many nights. She said that she could not attend school as she started working when he was just a teenager. “All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs. I yearned for books, but luck wasn’t in my favour. Eventually, my parents mortgaged whatever little jewelry my mother had to ensure that I paid my exam fees in order to earn a degree”, she said describing her struggles. Manya Singh took up odd jobs like dishwashing, working part-time at a restaurant, skipping meals and walking miles to save money. She ran away to Mumbai at the age of 14 to pursue her dreams. Her parents supported her decision and also shifted to Mumbai.

Proud of her daughter’s achievement, Manya Singh’s father Omprakash Singh said that he and his daughter wanted to meet the Chief Minister. He was happy that now they will be able to meet CM Yogi. He said that the state government’s policies helped his daughter achieve her dreams.

Karnataka: Arabic school teacher Mohammad Saifulla arrested for sexually harassing girl student in bus

As per reports, On February 23, Uppinangady Police arrested a 32-year-old Arabic teacher identified as Mohammad Saifulla on the allegations of sexually harassing a girl student in a bus. As per a report in Daijiworld, Saifulla teaches at an Arabic school in Sullia. The incident took place when the bus was travelling towards Uppinangady from Dharmasthala.

Reports suggest that while travelling on the bus, he would often touch and harass the girl. The girl objected to his behaviour and informed the bus conductor.

The driver took prompt action and stopped the bus right in front of the Uppinangady police station. Saifulla was handed over to the police. A complaint was filed against him by the girl student, after which the Uppinangady police took him in custody.

A similar incident was reported on Monday

On February 22, a similar incident was reported when a girl student travelling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru was harassed by a man identified as Rafiq. When a relative of the girl objected to his actions at the Uppinangady bus stand, a gang came in support of the accused and assaulted the relative. Uppinangady Police was informed about the incident who swiftly nabbed the accused. He was let go after issuing a warning.

Bhim Sena chief files FIR against UP CM, Police under SC/ST Act in retaliation to FIR against him for spreading fake news

On February 21, Unnao Police had registered a case against eight social media handles for spreading fake information about Unnao murder in which two girls had died, and one was in critical condition. The case which had named Mojo Story run by controversial journalist Barkha Dutt, had also named the Twitter account of Bhim Sena Chief Nawab Satpal Tanwar. Now, in reply to the FIR, the Bhim Sena chief has filed a counter-complaint against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Superintendent of Police Unnao, Additional Superintendent of Police, DSP City, and Police Station Kotwali Sadar in Incharge under SC/ST Act in Gurugram.

In a tweet, Tanwar shared scans of his complaint and alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is misusing the law against him. Calling himself a defender of the law and constitution, Tanwar said he had filed a complaint against CM and police personnel.

Tanwar claimed that he came to know about the incident from social media and tried to raise a voice for the victims. He further claimed that his organization did not spread any misinformation and only demanded that the surviving girl should be shifted to AIIMS along with a neutral investigation to find out if there was sexual assault on the girls.

The case against eight for spreading misinformation

On February 21, Unnao Police registered an FIR against eight Twitter accounts, including Barkha Dutt’s TheMojoStory and Bhim Sena Chief Tanwar, for spreading fake stories about the poisoning of three Dalit girls, where two girls have died while the third remains in hospital. The FIR stated that the mentioned Twitter handles had spread false information that the girls were raped, which was denied in the post mortem reports. It may be noted the third victim of the attack, who has survived, has also given a statement clarifying that they were not raped, and they were given poisoned water. These handles further spread the fake information that Unnao Police performed the last rites of the two deceased girls without the family’s consent.

Bhim Sena not to be mixed with Bhim Army

There are two organizations named Bhim Sena (Akhil Bhartiya Bhim Sena or ABBS) and Bhim Army (Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission). The former was founded by Nawab Satpal Tanwar in October 2010 in Gurugram, Haryana. The latter was founded by Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan in 2015 in Uttar Pradesh. Incidentally, two Twitter accounts linked with the Bhim Army have also been named in the same case of spreading information about the Unnao murder case.

Sri Lanka puts Chinese COVID-19 vaccines on hold, orders 13 million AstraZeneca doses

Sri Lanka is yet to approve the emergency use of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine made in China, citing the failure of Chinese authorities to submit the requisite information needed for its approval.

The decision was announced by cabinet co-spokesperson Dr Ramesh Pathirana, who claimed that the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine was yet to complete the critical phase 3 clinical trials. He added that the complete dossier regarding the registration of China’s Sinopharm vaccine is yet to be received by the Sri Lankan authorities.

Consequently, Sri Lanka will be dependent mostly on the Serum Institute of India’s AstraZeneca vaccine to vaccinate its 14 million people. “As of now, we can proceed only with the AstraZeneca vaccine. The moment we receive full details from the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer, we can mull over considering it,” Pathirana said.

However, Pathirana said registration of the Sinopharm vaccine might take some time as the World Health Organisation(WHO) is yet to approve its usage. The Sinopharm vaccine is still under review by the WHO and has so far not received approval from the global health organisation.

The lack of approval to the Russian made Sputnik V vaccine, Pathirana said, meant that Sri Lanka would be compelled to depend on AstraZeneca for its vaccine requirements. He further said that all the existing vaccines secured by Sri Lanka are being used as the first dose to vaccinate the public and others, including VIPs.

As per reports, Sri Lanka has now placed orders for 13 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, apart from the 500,000 doses that were gifted by India. For the first round of immunisation, Sri Lanka has ordered 10 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India at the cost of 52.5 million dollars. It will also get 3 million doses directly from AstraZeneca under the UN’s COVAX program.

Global mistrust surrounding the Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines

China’s image took a severe drubbing following the advent of the coronavirus outbreak in late 2019 when Beijing was accused of covering up the epidemic and being reticent in revealing the virulence of the coronavirus.

Since then, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping has been coveting the option of offering a cheap alternative to the developing nations against the more expensive and anticipated shortage of western-developed coronavirus vaccine and thereby attempting to regain the trust of the countries it lost following the advent of coronavirus.

There seems to be no end to the feud between the world’s two richest people – Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk set off a fresh confrontation with Bezos by taking a dig at the fellow billionaire in a comment he provided to the controversial left-wing media outlet Washington Post.

On Tuesday, the Washington Post’s Faiz Siddiqui had published a report about how Elon Musk’s busy schedule – including his travel, personal life, and focus on SpaceX, his rocket company – were affecting his electric car company Tesla. The WaPo report claimed that Musk has been receiving criticism for his lack of time and commitment to the car business.

The report claimed that they had interviewed a dozen current and former Tesla employees, investors, and analysts before publishing their report and also said that they reached out to Musk by email and received a brief response.

“Give my regards to your puppet master,” Musk was quoted as saying in the Washington Post report. The comment was a reference to Bezos’ ownership of The Washington Post, which he bought in 2013 for $250 million in cash.

Old feud between the two billionaires resurfaces again

With this latest dig, the battle of billionaires seems to be re-ignited, a feud that dates back to 2004. Over the last 16 years, Musk has levelled several charges against Bezos and his rocket company, Blue Origin. Musk has never missed out on a chance to take a dig at the fellow billionaire and had once referred to him as a ‘copycat’ over some of his business ventures.

In response, Bezos has repeatedly critiqued SpaceX and Musk’s goal of sending humans to Mars – Bezos has described the idea as “un-motivating”. “Go live on the top of Mount Everest for a year first and see if you like it because it’s a garden paradise compared to Mars,” Bezos had said last year.

Elon Musk’s latest dig at Bezos comes at a time when the billionaire-owned Washington Post has been receiving wide criticism across the world for its open left-wing bias. The Washington Post, along with other major media groups in the United States, has been at the forefront of a propaganda war against the conservatives and nationalists not just in the United States but across the world.

Washington Post had always shared a tough relationship with former US President Donald Trump. Trump had always deemed these publications as hostile to him and his administration, along with CNN. For the first time in eleven years, Japan has seen a spike in the number of suicides in the country. The government has now appointed a Minister of loneliness to reduce loneliness and social isolation among the residents.

As per a report in Japan Times, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga appointed Tetsushi Sakamoto as the ‘Minister of Loneliness’. Sakamoto is already dealing with the declining birth rate in Japan and promoting regional revitalization.

During a press conference, PM Suga, while appointing Sakamoto on February 12, said, “Women are suffering from isolation more (than men are), and the number of suicides is on a rising trend. I hope you will identify problems and promote policy measures comprehensively.”

The history of loneliness in Japan

Loneliness has been a problematic issue for Japan for a long time. It is often discussed along with “hikikomori”, which means the people who live in extreme social isolation. Several attempts have been made so far to deal with the issue. For example, engineers have developed a robot that is programmed to hold someone’s hand when they are lonely. There are service providers who charge people to keep them company. You can also hire a companion or someone to cuddle in Japan. Other services to tackle loneliness include hire a friend or hire a boyfriend or girlfriend.

As per reports, there has been a rise in suicides in Japan during the pandemic as people were more socially isolated than ever. This was the first time Japan saw an increase in suicide cases in eleven years.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with people more socially isolated than ever, Japan saw a rise in suicides for the first time in 11 years. According to the Japan Times, the preliminary figure released by the National Policy Agency showed that 20,919 people died of suicide in 2020, which was 750 more than the previous year. There was a noticeable rise in suicides among young people and women. In October alone, 879 women died by suicide in Japan that was 70% more compared to 2019.

Michiko Ueda, a professor who is studying suicides in Japan, said that many single women are living alone, and a large number of them do not have stable employment. “They have to support their own lives and they don’t have permanent jobs. So, when something happens, of course, they are hit very, very hard,” said Ueda.

Loneliness is a worldwide issue

Japan is not the only country to be dealing with loneliness. A 2017 Red Cross report suggested that over nine million people in the United Kingdom feel lonely or left out. After the study was released, the UK became the first nation to appoint a loneliness minister in 2018. The British government has defined loneliness as “a subjective, unwelcome feeling of lack or loss of companionship.”

Ramona Herdman, head of tackling loneliness at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in the United Kingdom had said, “Loneliness is always an unwelcome feeling and an experience which leads to bad health outcomes.”

In a 2018 report, global health organization Cigna said that loneliness “has the same impact on mortality as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, making it even more dangerous than obesity.”

Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Sardar Patel Sports Enclave at Motera: All you need to know about world’s largest cricket stadium

On Wednesday, President Ram Nath Kovind performed ‘Bhumi Pujan’ and inaugurated the revamped Motera Stadium ahead of the start of the Day-Night Test between India and England.

The newly built sports enclave, located in Gujarat’s Motera, was earlier known as ‘Sardar Vallabhbhai Stadium’ for several years now. The Gujarat Cricket Association, in a mammoth project, has now expanded the erstwhile stadium into a huge sports enclave. The sports enclave will be henceforth known as the ‘Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave’.

The previous Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad was demolished to re-develop a sports complex. The newly built sports facility houses the world’s largest cricket ground, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an indoor cricket academy, badminton, tennis courts, a squash arena, a table tennis area, football, hockey, basketball, a 3D projector theatre, and a clubhouse.

The world’s biggest cricket stadium inside the ‘Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave’ has been named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The stadium, which has a seating capacity of 1,10,000, will be hosting the pink-ball Test between India and England from Wednesday.

The name of the sports facility not changed

It is important to note that the name of Sardar Patel has not been removed. In fact, his name has been elevated to mark the entire sports enclave that includes various other sporting facilities. Only the cricket stadium has been named after PM Narendra Modi and not the entire sports enclave.

Additionally, the sports enclave and the stadium are not the only initiatives that the Gujarat government has in mind for the state. Home Minister Amit Shah, while speaking at the inaugural event, said there are also plans to build a sports complex in Naranpura area of Ahmedabad.

The renaming of the refurbished stadium at Motera after Narendra Modi comes after the consideration of his tenure as the President of Gujarat Cricket Association from September 2009 to May 2014 and not from the fact that he is currently the Prime Minister of the country. Modi, as the administration of the Gujarat Cricket Association, was instrumental in the redevelopment of the entire sports facility.

As Narendra Modi swore as the Prime Minister of the country, he promptly resigned from the post of President of GCA. Amit Shah, who was then the GCA vice-president, took over the reins of the GCA and successfully built the world’s biggest facility at Motera.

The newly built sports enclave is spread over 63 acres and the Narendra Modi stadium takes a fraction of the space in the entire stadium. The stadium has been built at an estimated cost of ₹800 crore by the L&T.

The earlier stadium was constructed in 1982 and initially had a seating capacity of 49,000. The new facility has dressing rooms big enough to accommodate four teams. The stadium also has a state-of-the-art gymnasium and six indoors practice pitches with three outdoor practice fields, among other amenities.

Congress social media cell was activated to claim that when Congress makes it back to power it will rename the stadium. What the Congressis did not get is that the stadium is named after PM Modi while the enclave, the entire complex which houses the stadium and various other sporting facilities is named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. Stadium is just a part of the bigger sports complex.

More Congress supporters joined in. Which is quite amusing considering there are at least 450 projects, structures, roads, colleges, universities named after the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.

A November 2013 RTI response had revealed that Nehru-Gandhi family names were used for 450 difference schemes, projects and institutions. 12 Central and 52 state schemes, 28 sports tournaments and trophies, 19 stadiums, 5 airports and ports, 98 educational institutions, 51 awards, 15 fellowships, 15 national sanctuaries and parks, 39 hospitals and medical institutions, 37 institutions, chairs and festivals and 74 roads, buildings and places are named after 3 members of the Nehru-Gandhi family: Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

There are also parks and zoos dedicated to Kamala Nehru who was Jawaharlal Nehru’s wife. She had died even before Indian independence and has never been a politician. There are parks, gardens, memorials, schools and hospital after Indira Gandhi’s younger son Sanjay Gandhi. Sanjay Gandhi was an MP for a period of only six months and was best known for the forced sterilisation drive during Emergency and Maruti scam.

Hours after openly attending the ‘farmers’ rally held in Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh’s ancestral village in Bhatinda’s Mehraj on February 23, gangster Lakha Sidhana, who is wanted in Republic Day violence case and carries a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, released a new video on Tuesday night.

In the video, Lakha thanked the organisers of the rally in Mehraj village of Bathinda. “Today, you have demonstrated that Punjab youth don’t just talk on Facebook but are also on the road fighting for their rights. They won’t stop until they have won the battle,” Lakha Sidhana said in the video.

The gangster, who is on the run from the Delhi Police, also asked farmer leaders to hold a programme at Delhi borders in the coming days and appealed to the youth to join the protest sites in big numbers.

Extending his support to the farmer unions, Sidhana said, “I want to assure the farmer unions that we are with you. Give us a programme…the government is targeting farmers and has initiated a clampdown against them by issuing notice, releasing photographs. If we do not react now, the police and the government will continue to harass us.”

A stern response has to be given if we really intend to win this, the gangster said while urging the youth to head towards Delhi whenever a call for a protest is given.

Speaking on the allegations of Congress backing the Punjab rally, Sidhana rubbished them, stating that the gathering was not limited to a single party alone but Akali Dal and AAP also came out in support of the Mehraj rally. He alleged that the ‘farmers’ rally at Mehraj was an outcome of the emotions of the people who are fighting for their rights.

Gangster Lakha Sidhana, who is wanted in connection with the Delhi violence that erupted in the national capital in the wake of the tractor rally on January 26, was yesterday seen at a ‘farmers’ rally held in Bhatinda’s Mehraj, the ancestral town of Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Sidhana also addressed the ‘farmers’ rally at Mehraj before fleeing away on a motorbike.

Lakha Sidhana is a history-sheeter and has several cases registered against him in Punjab. He was jailed many times as well. Most recently, he has been accused of instigating violence at the Red Fort during the tractor rally on Republic Day.

President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday inaugurated world’s largest cricket stadium in Motera. The stadium is named “Narendra Modi Stadium”. The President also carried out the Bhumi Pujan of Sardar Patel Sports Enclave at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of Spors Kiren Rijiju and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel were also present. The inauguration comes ahead of the 3rd Test between India and England on Wednesday. The Narendra Modi Stadium is set to be the largest cricket stadium in the world with a capacity of 1,10,000.

The stadium was constructed in 1982 and initially had a seating capacity of 49,000. The stadium is spread across 63 acres and also has an indoor cricket academy including a dormitory for 40 athletes. It also has dressing rooms big enough to accommodate four teams. The stadium also has a state-of-the-art gymnasium and six indoors practice pitches with three outdoor practice fields, among other amenities.
