Jadavpur University clash: BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari demands the deployment of central forces at the university alleging failure of the state govt

After the recent unrest at Jadavpur University (JU) following the attack on West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu by left-wing student organisations on 1st March, BJP MLA from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari has demanded the deployment of central forces at the university alleging that the state government has failed to maintain order in the campus. Holding the left student organisations and the TMC students’s wing responsible for academic disruptions at the university, Adhikari demanded their dissolution in his post on X.

Adhikari participated in a protest march jointly organised by the BJYM (BJP’s youth wing), BJP West Bengal and Jadavpur organisational districts from Navina Cinema on Prince Anwar Shah Road to Jadavpur Police Station to draw attention towards the ongoing “anarchy” in the university.

A massive agitation was initiated by student organisations of the Left and the TMC on 5th March after the SFI and ultra-left Naxal outfits disrupted an event of the West Bengal College & University Professors Association (WBCUPA), an organisation of pro-Trinamool professors leaving the state education minister Basu and several professors injured. Following the attack on Basu and some professors, TMC Ministers, MPs, and Councillors threatened to barge into the Jadavpur University campus. But the Left and ultra-Left student organisations responded with a students’ strike in protest on Monday (3rd March) despite the ongoing 10+2 Board exams in the state. On Wednesday (5th March), the agitation was taken over by the BJYM and the ABVP (RSS students’ wing) who protested against the left student groups.

Kolkata Police began an investigation after the High Court’s directive

On 6th March, an FIR was filed against Basu, his driver and Professor Om Prakash Mishra in connection with the 1st March incident after the Kolkata High Court directed the state government on 5th March to consider the email version of the complaint of a JU student named Indranuj Roy who was injured during the 1st March violence. The Kolkata Police began an investigation into the FIR on Saturday (8th March).

As part of the investigation, the Kolkata police recorded the statements of Indranuj Roy and Professor Om Prakash Mishra. SFI leader Srijan Bhattacharya was also called to the Jadavpur Police Station for questioning and asked to submit any videos of the incident that he claimed to possess. Objecting to being summoned by the police, Bhattacharya questioned why TMC leaders were not summoned. “I was summoned two days ago. I have no problem and I came to help with the investigation. But my question is why I was summoned, alone. Why were other TMC leaders not summoned!” said Bhattacharya.

SFI members blocked roads demanding action against Basu

On Saturday(8th March), members of the SFI blocked some main roads in Kolkata alleging that false cases have been filed against Srijan Bhattacharya and the Kolkata district committee member Abhinab Basu. They demanded charges against Bhattacharya be dropped and instead legal action be initiated against the state education minister Basu and WBCUPA members for allegedly causing injury to two student protestors.

Netizens falsely claim people started digging at Asirgarh Fort searching for hidden treasure after watching Chhava, here is the fact

On 8th March, several X users with a left-liberal leaning claimed that people in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, had raided Asirgarh Fort after watching the movie Chhava, which showed that the Mughals had kept looted treasure there.

X user Roshan Rai shared a video of people allegedly looking for treasure and wrote, “Chhava movie showed that Mughals looted Gold and treasure from Marathas and kept it in the Asirgarh Fort, Burhanpur, MP. After watching the movie, locals flocked to the spot with digging tools, metal detectors and bags to dig up the treasure and take it home. My heart bleeds for how illiterate and dehati this country has become.”

Another user Kashif Kakvi wrote, “After watching bollywood film Chhava, villagers near Asirgarh Fort in Burhanpur, (MP) launched a gold hunt after the dawn. With flashlights & metal detectors, they’ve been digging fields, chasing rumors of Mughal-era treasure! The gold diggers ran away when Police arrived.”

X user Sadaf Afreen wrote in Hindi, “This picture is of Asirgarh Fort in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh! People have gone crazy after watching the film Chhava! With flashlights, sieves, and metal detectors, they are searching for a Mughal-era treasure in the middle of the night! A film is made, and then the unemployed youth of the country set out to find treasure—Mughal treasure at that! What has become of this country! The population of fools keeps increasing!”

In the video, several people can be seen digging at the location at night. When checked, OpIndia found that there have been reports of people digging the site.

However, the claim that the incident happened after watching the movie Chhava is incorrect. Even the person recording the video categorically says “khet” which means field. He never mentioned the fort.

TV9 report suggests that the video is not even of the fort but of a farm. Around three months ago, there were rumours that Mughal-era gold coins had been found in fields. Several hundred people gathered in the field to look for the coins, which created problems for the farmer who owned the land. The police swiftly took action, after which locals stopped searching for a while.

However, around three days ago, similar rumours surfaced again. With the wheat harvest now over, hundreds of people, equipped with modern devices, are once again searching for gold coins at night, digging up fields in the process. This has once again created a nuisance for the farmer.

Eyewitnesses told the media that people from Dhulkot arrived on the intervening night of 6th and 7th March to search for the coins. The district archaeology association’s Dr Manoj Agarwal confirmed that Asirgarh was once a significant power centre. Rulers like Akbar, Nadir Shah, and the British controlled the region. In the absence of banks, people buried treasures underground, making the discovery of historical coins possible, though their authenticity remains uncertain.

When the police learned that people were flocking to the field once again and digging, they rushed to the spot, after which the crowd fled. Reportedly, nothing was found, again. Interestingly, when similar rumours had surfaced four months ago the movie Chhava was not running in the theatres.

Thus, only the part of the claims that people flocked to look for coins in Burhanpur is correct. Neither they dug at the fort nor it has anything to do with the movie Chhava.

Denied sex by girlfriends and wives during Ramazan, Muslim youths rape their ‘friend’ teenaged boy, kill him brutally and dump body in a well in UP

A 13-year-old boy was killed by some Muslim youths after raping him in Makanpur of Araul area in Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, the boy’s friends lured him into the ruins of the village, where they tried to tie him up with a rope. The culprits Azhar alias Ajju, Nazar Ali alias Hussaini, Ausaf Ali and Anab of the same village then sodomised him.

The youths raped the boy because their girlfriend and wife were denying them sex during the Ramazan month. After that, they strangled his throat and repeatedly attacked him with an iron rod, killing him on the spot. After committing the murder, the accused boys dumped the body in a 40-feet deep well near the highway. To mislead the police, they sent a message to the boy’s father demanding a ransom of ₹10 lakh, claiming that he has been kidnap.

After receiving the ransom demand on Thursday morning, the family approached the police and filed a report. They also expressed suspicion on some friends of the boy. Based on their input, the police detained three boys Ausaf Ali, Nazar Ali alias Hussaini and Anab, and questioned them. Azhar alias Ajju is absconding, and a search is on to nab him.

The 13-year-old son of a property dealer of Makanpur, one of the 11 children, left home on Wednesday evening at 7 pm saying he was going to the gym as usual. When he did not return till late night, a call was made to his mobile phone which was switched off. A search for him began, but his father got the ransom call

ACP Amarnath Yadav said that the culprits Azhar and Nazar took the victim to a ruin on the pretext of taking him for a walk. There they tied him with a rope and tried to rape him. When he resisted, they strangled him with a rope. After the boy stopped breathing, they started to drag him towards the well. However, the victim resumed breathing, and therefore they hit him on his head, stomach and other parts of the body with an iron rod. Then they took his phone, dumped the body in the well, and sent the ransom message to his father.

ADCP Kalyanpur Vijendra Dwivedi said that Azhar sent the ransom message and gave the mobile to Nazar Ali. When the police searched the house of Nazar Ali, they found the victim’s phone in his house hidden in a plastic basket.

During questioning, Nazar Ali said that his girlfriend and Azhar’s wife were refusing sexual relations during the month Ramazan. As a result, they conspired to abduct the teenaged boy and rape him.

Notably, the victim and the accused are friends and used to visit each other’s house. Accused Ausaf has a shoe shop in Makanpur. His brother Ajju works as a mason. They are sons of Makanpur Gram Pradhan Majahir Hussain’s sister. One of their brothers is a SP worker.

Uttar Pradesh: Contractor Ejaz Khan converts minors, aged 12 and 6, to Islam, forcefully circumcises them – Read exclusive FIR details

On 6th March, Rampur police filed a case against a contractor named Ejaz Khan for allegedly coercing a labourer, Amanpal, into converting his two sons, aged 12 and 6, to Islam. Hindu organisations were informed about the matter, after which they staged protests outside the police station and demanded strict action. One person, Ali Mohammed, was detained by the police for questioning.

The complaint was filed by the uncle of the labourer, Sompal. Following the complaint, an FIR under Section 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, was registered at Shahbad Police Station. Additionally, SC/ST Act provisions under Section 3(2)(5) have been added during the investigation.

Content of the FIR

OpIndia accessed a copy of the FIR. According to the complaint filed by Sompal, his nephew Amanpal and his family were taken by contractor Ejaz Khan to Osi village in Shahbad under the pretext of providing employment. However, Ejaz Khan coerced Amanpal into circumcising his two sons, aged 12 and 6 years, and converting them to Islam.

Sompal accused Khan of coercing Amanpal into religious conversion through inducements and pressure. He requested the police to take immediate legal action against Khan for forced conversion and religious coercion.

Amanpal released a video to deny allegations

As the case gained traction, Amanpal released a video claiming that conversion or circumcision did not happen. He stated that neither he nor his children had undergone religious conversion or circumcision. He also claimed that the police had been harassing him because of the complaint filed by his uncle.

Police probe ongoing amid conflicting claims

Circle Officer Harshita Singh initiated an extensive investigation. She visited the construction site in Osi village to record statements from multiple individuals. In a statement, she confirmed that Amanpal has denied the claims of conversion.

The video released by Amanpal complicated the matter, as he showed his family at a temple performing Hindu rituals. The video was reportedly recorded in an under-construction temple. The police have taken cognisance of the video and are investigating to confirm its authenticity.

Meanwhile, Sompal has maintained his stance that his nephew has converted his children to Islam. He alleged that Amanpal has been lying to evade legal consequences in the matter.

Authorities searching for missing family

Speaking to the media, CO Singh stated that all necessary statements are being recorded. However, Ejaz Khan, Amanpal and his family have reportedly gone missing. Authorities are actively tracing the family, and further legal action will follow based on their statements.

Indian govt condemns the “despicable” act of vandalism at BAPS Hindu temple in California, urges US govt to take stringent action

India on Sunday condemned the vandalism at a Hindu temple in California in the United States.

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal termed the attack as “despicable” and urged local authorities to take stringent action against those responsible.

“We have seen reports regarding the vandalism at a Hindu temple in Chino Hills, California. We condemn such despicable acts in the strongest terms. We call upon the local law enforcement authorities to take stringent action against those responsible for these acts, and also ensure adequate security to places of worship,” the MEA said.

A BAPS Hindu Temple located in Chino Hills, California was vandalised with desecratory messages, days ahead of a so-called ‘Khalistani referendum’ in Los Angeles.

The official X page of BAPS for the United States, shared the details of the incident that took place at a BAPS Hindu Temple located in Chino Hills, California.

It also stressed that they will “never let hate take root” and peace and compassion shall prevail.

In a post on X, BAPS Public Affairs wrote, “In the face of another Mandir desecration, this time in Chino Hills, CA, the Hindu community stand steadfast against hate. Together with the community in Chino Hills and Southern California, we will never let hate take root. Our common humanity and faith will ensure that peace and compassion prevail.”

The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), also shared details of the incident on X, and said the desecration of the iconic BAPS Temple in California comes ahead of the “so called Khalistan referendum” in Los Angeles.

“Another Hindu Temple vandalized – this time the iconic BAPS temple in Chino Hills, CA. Syria: Revenge killings claim 1000 lives so far, Alawite women paraded naked on streets by security forces

Around 1000 people have been killed in two days in the ongoing revenge killings between the security forces and the supporters of the ousted Al-Assad regime in Syria, which started on Thursday (6th March).

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reportedly confirmed on Saturday (8th March) that in addition to 745 civilians said to be killed mostly in shooting from a close distance, 125 government security force members and 148 militants with armed groups affiliated with President Bashar al-Assad have been killed so far.

The revenge killings started on Thursday (6th March) after Sunni Muslim gunmen loyal to the interim government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Mohammad al-Julani, began revenge killings against the Alawite minority community loyal to the Assad regime.

The interim government justified the killings of civilians saying that it was only responding to attacks from remnants of Assad’s forces and blamed ‘individual actions’ for the violence.

Within three months of the Assad regime being ousted following an insurgency led by the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the violent clashes have marked a major challenge for the new government in Syria.

The Alawite minority lives in the coastal towns of Latakia and Tartous. As per the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, drinking water and electricity have also been cut off in several Alawite majority areas in Latakia.

Alawites reportedly made up a significant part of President Assad’s support base and enjoyed high-ranking posts and privileges in his regime.

According to reports, unleashing brutality on the Alawaite minority, the gunmen shot their people, mostly men, in the streets or at the gates of their homes. The gunmen looted several houses and set them on fire.

Thousands of people from the community are said to have fled to the nearby mountains to save their lives. Some of them have also fled to Lebonan.

Women paraded naked, teenage boy forced to shoot his family

Hiding their identities, some people from the Alawite community narrated the details of the atrocity. “They forcibly brought people down to the streets, then they lined them up and started shooting them,” a resident of Baniyasin on the west coast of Syria was quoted by Sky News.

“They left nobody. They left nobody at all. The scene that I saw was pure horror; it’s just indescribable,” he added. Another person reportedly claimed that Alawaite women were paraded on streets naked before being shot and that a teenage boy was forced to shoot his own family with a gun.

Nasser said that many people were sheltering at the Russian air base in Hmeimim, Syria, adding that the international community should protect Alawites who are Syrian citizens loyal to their country. He said that since Assad’s fall, many Alawites were fired from their jobs and some former soldiers who reconciled with the new authorities were killed.

‘F*ck Modi, Modi Murdabad, Hindustan Murdabad’: Extremists vandalise BAPS Mandir in US, deface temple walls with hateful messages

On Saturday (8th March), extremists carried out vandalism at the BAPS Hindu Temple in Chino Hills in California State of the US. The temple walls were defaced with slogans such as ‘F*ck Modi, Modi Murdabad, Hindustan Murdabad.’

BAPS confirmed the incident through a post on the social media platform X and drew attention to the hateful messages that were written on the temple walls.

In the post on X, BAPS stated, “In the face of another Mandir desecration, this time in Chino Hills, CA, the Hindu community stands steadfast against hate. Together with the community in Chino Hills and Southern California, we will never let hate take root. Our common humanity and faith will ensure that peace and compassion prevail.”

Later, the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) condemned the vandalism and drew attention to similar incidents in the past. CoHNA pointed out that the incident has occurred just days before the so-called ‘Khalistan referendum’ scheduled in Los Angeles.

They said, “Another Hindu temple vandalised—this time the iconic BAPS temple in Chino Hills, CA. It’s just another day in a world where media and academics will insist there is no anti-Hindu hate and that #Hinduphobia is just a construct of our imagination. Not surprising this happens as the day for a so-called ‘Khalistan referendum’ in LA draws close.”

Series of attacks on Hindu temples

At the beginning of 2024, there was a series of such incidents. On 1st January, the Shiv Durga Temple in Santa Clara was defaced. Four days later, on 5th January, both the Shree Ashta Lakshmi Temple in Fremont and Vijay’s Sherawali Temple in Hayward were targeted.

On 11th January 2024, the Sri Panchamukha Hanuman Temple in Dublin, California, faced vandalism. More recently, on 17th September 2024, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Melville, New York, was vandalised. On 25th September, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Sacramento, California, was targeted.
