Aam Aadmi Party supporters are ready for your entertainment amid the nationwide Bandh call that does not quite seem to be working.

As the Kejriwal backed Bharat Bandh spectacularly failed in Delhi, AAP supporters and sympathisers rushed in the defence of their leader and his government. Pinning the blame of the failure of Bandh on the Centre and PM Modi, AAPians alleged that the Modi government is afraid of Kejriwal and has therefore house arrested the Delhi CM for extending his support for the farmers.

The official Twitter account of Aam Aadmi Party tweeted that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been put under house arrest. Soon after the tweet, scores of AAP supporters descended on social media websites, furiously tweeting in support of the Kejriwal government and accusing the central government of being so afraid of the AAP chief that they had to put him under house arrest. The AAP supporters claimed that PM Modi is worried that Kejriwal would visit the Singhu border once again and extend his solidarity with the protesters.

Soon enough the attention from Bharat Bandh was diverted to Kejriwal’s ‘house arrest’ which never was.

Delhi Police denies putting Arvind Kejriwal under house arrest

As the rabid AAP supporters were busy weaving a narrative that the Modi government had kept Kejriwal under house arrest, in a bid to cover-up their failure on Bharat Bandh, Delhi Police issued a prompt clarification, stating that the chief minister is not put under house arrest and it is just a general deployment to avoid clashes between AAP and other parties.

With the Delhi residents giving short shrift to the call for Bharat Bandh which was also supported by Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP and its supporters made a beeline to defend their leader and make outrageous assertions that the Delhi CM was put under house arrest because his support for farmers scared the PM Modi.

Arvind Kejriwal has a history of indulging in attention-seeking stunts

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and his supporters have often displayed such kind of an inflated sense of self-importance. On several occasions in the past, AAP supporters have pulled off such attention-seeking stunts to hog limelight and elevate their leader Arvind Kejriwal’s political stature.

In December 2018, AAP had alleged that a man had hurled chilli powder on Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi chief minister and his supporters instantly painted the aggressor as BJP man and accused the BJP of attacking him. Kejriwal had called a special session to discuss the chilli powder attack on him. the special session was called when the nation was mourning on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack.

However, several reports in the aftermath of the incident claimed that the accused, Anil Sharma, who had flung chilli powder on Kejriwal, had confessed that the attack was orchestrated by AAP leaders as a publicity stunt.

Similarly, in May 2019, Arvind Kejriwal was struck with a resounding slap by a man named Suresh Chauhan during his roadshow in the Moti Nagar area of Delhi. After Kejriwal was slapped, the AAP leaders and supporters alleged that the accused had links with the BJP. However, the man confessed to being an AAP supporter and videos had emerged where he was seen attending rallies of Aam Aadmi Party.

As soon as the reports of Kejriwal being attacked by one of the disgruntled AAP supporters came out, the speculations of the incident being staged started gathering steam. With the attacker Suresh’s confession claiming that he was an AAP supporter and the videos confirming it, many started believing that the whole incident might be staged to garner sympathy from the voters.

And now, with FOMO (Fear of missing out) setting in after national parties making their support to farmers’ agitation louder, Kejriwal floated the ‘house arrest’ theory to bring back the attention on him.

On Monday, political ‘analyst’ Mohammed Tauseef Rahman made several outlandish allegations against the West Bengal unit of the BJP. He accused the party of killing its own workers for gaining political mileage in the State.

“There is a Bengali proverb ‘Joto dosh Nondo Ghosh (Blame Nondo Ghosh, referring to the TMC, for every wrongdoing). This cannot happen. Who killed BJP members? Why are innocent people losing their lives in Bengal? BJP is killing their own people. And are you trying to pin the blame for everything on the TMC?” alleged Tauseef. The debate was conducted in the backdrop of the brutal killing of BJP worker named Ulen Roy during the ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies in Siliguri.

“You think because you are sitting in Kolkata and I am not, so you know more about Bengal. You are insulated sitting there…The problem with you is that your communication with the rest of the world is through Netflix. You know nothing about the reality of Bengal, Tauseef Rehman,” Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami lambasted the political analyst.

Violence in Siliguri

Yesterday, the BJP’s ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies in Siliguri were marred by brutality. Party leaders had alleged that the West Bengal police and the TMC goons had attacked the BJP and BJYM workers with force. However, the Bengal police had denied using force.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya had shared a video clip from ABP News where a police officer can be seen brutally thrashing a BJP worker with his baton. The party worker was seen trying to hide under a cot on a rooftop, but the police officer spotted him and went on thrashing him brutally for several minutes. The visuals contradict the claims made by the West Bengal police that the police did not use force or lathi-charged the BJP workers.

A BJP worker named Ulen had died, allegedly after a crude bomb was hurled at the BJP rally. BJP MP and BJYM chief Tejasvi Surya had shared the images on Twitter, claiming that the crude bomb was hurled by “Mamata’s police”.

Several BJP workers and leaders have been killed or have been found dead under mysterious circumstances in the recent months.

Bharat Bandh flops in Delhi as vegetable mandis stay open for business despite Kejriwal’s support to protesting ‘farmers’

On December 6, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, had announced his party’s support for the call of ‘Bharat Bandh’ by farmers’ unions. His MLAs had posted tweets that the mandis and markets in Delhi will remain closed on Tuesday to show solidarity to the farmers. However, the whole movement has flopped in Delhi. The vegetable mandis opened as per the schedule, and the business is as usual with minor hiccups that were expected.

Mandi chairman’s statement and the reaction

AAP leader and Azadpur Mandi chairman Adil Khan had issued a video statement. He said that the shopkeepers in Mandi had decided not to open their shops on Tuesday to support ‘Bharat Bandh.’ He also claimed that it was a historic decision. However, on Tuesday morning, his claims were proven to be a fluke as the business started in the Mandi at its usual pace.

Neelkant Bakshi, BJP Karyakarta, had shared a video of Okhla Mandi. He said, “despite all the efforts of AAP appointed chairman Aadil Khan, the business in the mandi is in progress at its full pace. A lot of produce has arrived in the mandi.”

In another Tweet, Bakshi shared a video in which Anil Malhotra from Azadpur Mandi said, “the Mandi chairman is lying that the Mandis will remain closed. The mandis are open, and the business is as usual. The farmers’ produce will be sold in the mandis.” Bakshi added in the tweet that around 20 trucks of tomato, 50 trucks of potato, and over 200 trucks of fresh vegetables have reached Azadpur Mandi today.”

Statements of AAP leaders

Gopal Rai, Delhi Minister, had said on December 6, “Aam Aadmi Party’s convenor & Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Ji has urged party officials & workers to support farmers-led #BharatBandh on December 8. Ours is an agrarian country, I would also urge the people to show their support as well.”

On December 7, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan tweeted in Support of Bharat Bandh and said, “We are in full support of our farmers’ call for Bharat Bandh on December 8. I appeal to the people of Okhla and Delhi to close their shops and businesses to support the farmers.”

Farmers’ protest and talks with Central Government

A large number of farmer leaders under different unions are in Delhi to mark their protest against the recently passed Agriculture Laws. They are demanding that the central government must repeal these laws.

Most of the agitating farmers are from Punjab. Contrary to the lies peddled by the opposition, the new laws have ample security for the farmers and provide legal remedies to the farmers in case of non-payment or delayed payment along with several other benefits.

Opportunist protesters like Medha Patkar, Yogendra Yadav, and several others have jumped in the protests. There are reports that Khalistanis are trying to take over the protests and use them for their own agenda. The farmers’ unions led by Yogendra Yadav had called for Bharat Bandh on December 8, but it seemed to have failed in Delhi.

The central government has been trying to communicate with farmers for the last several weeks, but the farmers’ unions were not ready to listen. Since they arrived in Delhi, several rounds of talks have already been completed, and the next round is scheduled for December 9.

Cracks in opposition? TMC reluctant to support ‘Bharat Bandh’ call in West Bengal by ‘farmers’ over farm laws

Amidst the ongoing protests against the newly introduced farm bills and the call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ by farmer unions on Tuesday, the Trinamool Congress has expressed reluctance over the idea of a nationwide strike. While more than a dozen Opposition parties have been vocal about their support, the TMC has rather chosen to extend its ‘moral support’.

Senior party leader and MP Saugata Roy said that while the party stands by the agitating ‘farmers’, TMC will not support the Bharat Bandh by the farmers in the State of West Bengal. “It goes against our principles,” he emphasised.

While addressing a gathering in Midnapore on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also informed that the government does not support the idea of bandh but will extend their support to the farmers’ movement.

While demanding the withdrawal of farm bills, she said, “I have not forgotten Singur, I have not forgotten… I am promising full support to the farmers.” While she made it clear that TMC would not support Bandhs, she said, “we are supporting the demands being made by farmers tomorrow.”

TMC’s politics in Bengal

The ‘moral support’ of Trinamool Congress to the Bharat Bandh is rooted in the party’s history and the politics of West Bengal. During the 34-year Communist rule in West Bengal, the state was marred with recurring strikes, by unions backed by the CPI(M). To mark a departure from the traditional practice that saw large-scale businesses loss in the state, the TMC has been dead against the idea of strikes.

It is pertinent to remember that Mamata Banerjee had also ‘penalised’ strikes in the State by government employees to prevent loss of working days. As such, despite being a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, the TMC had to deviate from its usual vocal stand to a rather passive one. With the upcoming Assembly elections in mind, Mamata Banerjee is ensuring that the electorates do not assume her party to toe the line of the Communists who ruled the state earlier.

However, this stance of the party has cast aspersions about the ‘Opposition unity’ in orchestrating a formidable mass agitation against the ruling dispensation. TMC spokesperson Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, “This time it is the cause…it is in the interest of farmers that TMC is supporting the protests.”

Delhi Police on Tuesday has rubbished Aam Aadmi Party’s claims that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is put under house arrest.

Police said that the security is increased around CM’s house to avoid clash between AAP and other party workers. As quoted by ANI, Delhi Police’s DCP, North Anto Alphonse said that the CM has not been put under house arrest.

Aam Aadmi Party had tweeted earlier today claiming that Kejriwal was put under house arrest by Delhi Police.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also claimed that after Delhi Chief Minister returned from meeting the farmers at Singhu border and extended support for Bharat Bandh, Delhi Police put up barricades around his house creating a ‘house arrest’ like situation.

He claimed that no one was allowed to meet Kejriwal upon his return yesterday.

However, Delhi Police has now rubbished these claim.

In a tweet, DCP North Delhi shared an image outside Delhi CM’s house and said that he continues to exercise his right to free movement within the law of the land. The DCP North Delhi reiterated that AAP’s claim of Kejriwal put under house arrest is incorrect.

Hours after West Bengal police denied using ‘force’ to disrupt the BJP’s ‘Uttar Kanya Abhiyan’ rallies on Monday, where a BJP worker named Ulen Roy was killed, the party has questioned the integrity of the State police.

Malviya tweeted, “Shame on WB Police for behaving like TMC hoodlums! Is this your idea of restrain? If this is not lathi-charge then what is? Few months down the line, Pishi will be consigned to the footnote of Bengal’s politics. So don’t get carried away.” He further added, “Stop being a political pawn of the CM!”

While speaking about the incident, BJP State President Dilip Ghosh said that the deceased BJP worker had died after succumbing to police lathi-charge and rubber bullets. “The cops are hellbent to shut down a democratic protest,” he said. Ghosh further reminded the Trinamool Congress of the Nandigram violence where the cops had open fired on unarmed protestors in 2007, on the behest of the then Communist government. He said that if TMC continues on the same path, the people of the state will soon bid them goodbye.

BJP National Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also questioned the atrocities committed by the West Bengal police and informed about meeting injured BJP workers who had been the victims of police brutality.

West Bengal police denies use of force

On Monday, West Bengal police had accused ‘a political party’ of engaging in violence, arson, brick-batting, firing and vandalism of government property during their protest program. It claimed, “Today in Siliguri, serious acts of violence were committed by the supporters of a political party during their protest program. They resorted to arson, brick-batting, firing and vandalism of govt property.”

The police emphasised that they did not firearms or use lathi-charge and had only used water cannons and tear gas. “Police showed restraint and didn’t do lathi-charge or used firearms. Only water cannons and tear gas were used to disperse the violent crowd. However, the death of a person has been reported. The body is being sent for post-mortem. The actual cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem,” it further claimed.

Tejasvi Surya earlier called out the West Bengal Police

BJP MP and BJYM chief Tejasvi Surya, highlighting the police brutalities against peaceful protestors said, “Many BJP workers injured during their peaceful protest. #Democracy being murdered in WB.” In another tweet, Surya urged media to report the incident. He said,”If you will not speak up against these atrocities today, you will be failing in your duties. This is beyond party politics. This is the question of India’s democracy. Look at this. It looks like a war zone. Will you raise your voice against this?”

‘Liberals’ and crusaders of mental health have taken it upon themselves to abuse and bully Kangana because she ‘deserves it’

Unless you have been living under a rock, you must have witnessed the public spat between Hindi film actress Kangana Ranaut and Punjabi singer/actor Diljit Dosanjh. Things went pretty ugly pretty soon with both of them upping their abuse game with every subsequent tweet.

Both public personalities lost their cool but ‘liberals’ hailed Diljit because Kangana ‘deserved it’. These ‘liberals’ very vocally advocate mental health and are against bullying of any sort. Except, for Kangana, because she totally ‘deserved it’.

In fact, it is not just that. Kangana also gets mocked by same ‘liberals’ and gets name-called, which imply she has mental health issues. Except, on regular days, they advocate how mental health issues should not be mocked.

Here is an example. One Mini Nair here identifies herself as some writer. She is followed by the so-called liberals on Twitter.

This is what she thinks about mental health.

See how she’s being empathetic in her tweets? She wants people to empathise with people suffering from mental health issues. Know what she has to say to Kangana?

Kangana Ranaut’s home town is in Himachal Pradesh. While the Congress party, Zomato and Mobikwik can claim that their tweets had nothing to do with Diljit, the timing of the tweets fail to substantiate such a claim.

Abusing Kangana is a free hit.

And no, by no means am I endorsing Kangana. Crass behaviour on either side was wrong. This just lowers the bar of public discourse. Because the moment you lose your cool, you lose the argument.

It is the justification of abuse received by her by the ‘liberals’ that is a cause of concern. This is also bullying. You are encouraging more people to go and abuse her by endorsing it. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander.

And if you really think Kangana deserves the hate and abuses she gets along with mockery of her ‘mental health’, drop the facade and embrace your hypocrisy. Stop calling yourself ‘liberal’ and accept that you are just as hateful as the next troll who abuses you and mocks your mental health.

Because if Kangana deserves it, so do you.

The US adds Pakistan, China and 8 others as ‘Countries of Particular Concern’ for violation of religious freedom

On December 7, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the United States of America had designated Pakistan, China and eight other nations as ‘Countries of Particular Concern’ for violation of religious freedom. Pompeo added that Myanmar, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were also placed in the list for “engaging in or tolerating systematic, ongoing egregious violations of religious freedom.”

Four other countries, namely Comoros, Cuba, Nicaragua and Russia have been added to a Special Watch List as the governments in these countries have engaged in or tolerated severe violation of religious freedom. In his statement, Pompeo said, “Religious freedom is an unalienable right, and the bedrock upon which free societies are built and flourish. Today, the United States, a nation founded by those fleeing religious persecution, as the recent Commission on Unalienable Rights report noted, once again took action to defend those who simply want to exercise this essential freedom.” He added, “The U.S. is unwavering in its commitment to religious freedom. No country or entity should be allowed to persecute people with impunity because of their beliefs. These annual designations show that when religious freedom is attacked, we will act.”

Entities of Particular Concern

The US has listed ISIS, al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the Houthis, al-Qaida, ISIS-Greater Sahara, ISIS-West Africa, Jamaat Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin and the Taliban as Entities of Particular Concern.

The prior status of Entity of Particular Concern for Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and ISIS-Khorasan has not been renewed as they have lost total control over these territories.

He said, “While these two groups no longer meet the statutory criteria for designation, we will not rest until we have fully eliminated the threat of religious freedom abuses by any violent extremist and terrorist groups.”

Sudan and Uzbekistan no longer in SWL

Pompeo said that the governments in Sudan and Uzbekistan had taken ‘significant and concrete steps’ over the past year. Thus, the countries have been removed from the Special Watch List. He said, “Their courageous reforms of their laws and practices stand as models for other nations to follow.”

He added that a lot of work is pending and the US will continue to work to end religiously motivated abuses and persecution across the globe so that each person has the right to live as per the ‘dictates of the conscience’ all the times.

Nigeria added for the first time in CPC list

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has praised the State Department’s announcement for adding ten nations to the list Countries of Particular Concern. Nigeria has been added for the first time. The four countries in the SWL have been added for the severe violations under the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA).

USCIRF Chair Gayle Manchin said that the organization particularly welcome Department’s move to add Nigeria in the list for the first time. USCIRF had been recommending Nigeria for CPC since 2009. “Nigeria is the first secular democracy that has been named a CPC, which demonstrates that we must be vigilant that all forms of governments respect religious freedom,” he added.

Vice-Chair Tony Perkins said that while the organization recommended keeping Uzbekistan and Sudan in CPC, “It is undeniable the historic progress that has been made in these two countries. We hope that their progress encourages positive change in other places around the world.”

The USCIRF had recommended adding India, Russia, Syria and Vietnam in the list of CPCs but the State Department denied it. In April this year, the Ministry of External Affairs had issued a strong-worded response to USCIRF’s claims on religious freedom in the country. MEA spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava had said, “We reject the observations on India in the USCIRF Annual Report. Its biased and tendentious comments against India are not new. But on this occasion, its misrepresentation has reached new levels. It has not been able to carry its own commissioners in its endeavour. We regard it as an organisation of particular concern and will treat it accordingly.”

Delhi: Rotting remains of slaughtered cows found in drain in West Delhi, case registered against unknown persons

Rotting remains of what appears to be slaughtered or murdered cows were found from a drain in Dwarka, sector 23, New Delhi on Monday. Cow slaughter is illegal in Delhi.

BJP MP Parvesh Singh Sahib took to Twitter to demand an immediate arrest of those involved. Sharing images of the drain where the carcasses were found, he said that there is no doubt that such slaughtering of cows and dumping their carcasses in drains has been happening since a long time.

He said that after he raised the issue, the cops arrived on spot and urged the Commissioner of Police to arrest the culprits immediately.

He further urged that the CCTV surveillance needs to be upped in the area to stop such crimes from taking place.

The Delhi Police on Monday registered a case against unknown people in the case. Police suspects it is a case of cow slaughter.

Assam: AIUDF threatens to sue legal rights body LRO over allegations of dubious funding against Badruddin Ajmal run ‘Ajmal Foundation’

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has threatened to sue Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) over allegations that Ajmal Foundation, run by party president Badruddin Ajmal, had received funds from foreign Islamic organisations linked to terror funding. It was also alleged that the Ajmal Foundation had received close to Rs. 70 crore in funding of which only Rs. 2.5 crore was spent on education.

“AIUDF has no connection with the Ajmal Foundation. But our party president has been targeted. An attempt is being made to create an impression that Badruddin Ajmal is involved in money laundering. We also object to the attempt at politicization of the matter… We will not tolerate this. Our party will file defamation case against LRO for tarnishing the image of our president,” said AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam.

“The BJP will be in trouble if the grand alliance comes into existence. That is why the RSS-affiliated NGO has made these allegations with an intention to malign and tarnish the image of our leader in front of the public,” he added. “In fact, there is an attempt to bring sedition charges against Ajmal by using the recent allegations… This is all part of the Hindutva agenda of the BJP government. Anybody opposing the government’s agenda becomes the target… As soon as they saw Ajmal and State Congress president Ripun Bora sharing a stage this was done,” he stated.

Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday said that the Assam Chief Minister “should have behaved like a politician and not an enemy”.

A case was registered against ‘Ajmal Foundation’, run by All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal, at Dispur police station in Assam on Friday. The case was filed following a complaint lodged by Satya Ranjan Bohra, who accused the NGO of receiving foreign funding and utilising it in suspicious activities, Guwahati CP M S Gupta was quoted by ANI as saying.

The complaint, lodged by Satya Ranjan Borah was based on the report of Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), a legal rights body.

“Ajmal Foundation, an organisation run by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, chief of AIUDF, being funded by some foreign agencies which are related to funding different terrorist groups and their terror activities as reported by an NGO Legal Rights Observatory. Considering the report, we want a proper investigation in this connection under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Ajmal Foundation has misused those foreign funds in several anti-national activities,” Borah alleged in the FIR.
