Rajdeep Sardesai discusses the success of ‘Bengaluru model’ in tackling coronavirus, asks whether the success was due to luck

At a time when the metropolitan cities of the country are massively hit with the rising coronavirus cases, the IT capital of the country – Bengaluru seems to have cracked the coronavirus puzzle right as it has now emerged successful in containing the spread of contagion.

Bengaluru, with a population of 1.2 crore and also the third-largest city in the country, has only reported just 417 cases till June 3, out of which only 149 cases are active ones while 256 patients have recovered. On the contrary, major metropolitan cities in the country including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai have accounted for nearly 78,000 cases, which is 40 per cent of the total cases in the country.

Only 12 deaths have been reported from the garden city Bengaluru, while the three major metros – Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai have seen nearly 2,000 deaths due to the coronavirus cases.

Not just Bengaluru, the entire state of Karnataka, ruled by the BJP, has done a phenomenal job in limiting the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the state. The state has seen just 4,320 positive cases and only 57 people have died due to the pandemic, despite having a population more than 7 crore population.

However, the success of Bengaluru or Karnataka model and the subsequent positive appraisal received by the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government seems to have hurt some of the perennial pessimists in the country.

Rajdeep Sardesai interviews Dr Shetty to discuss the success of ‘Bengaluru model’

The veteran ‘journalist’ Rajdeep Sardesai, who has a known dislike for the BJP, on Thursday attempted to pull a cheap trick to discredit the efforts of the Karnataka government in handling the major health crisis.

India Today, in its special report, had analysed how the ‘Bengaluru model’ of managing the coronavirus cases turned out to become one of the best health models in the country. However, at the outset of the show, Rajdeep Sardesai insinuated that the reason for the low number of cases in Karnataka, especially Bengaluru, was due to sheer luck.

Later in the show, the veteran ‘journalist’ also spoke to one of country’s renowned heart specialist Dr Devi Shetty, who has also been at the forefront of the coronavirus battle in Karnataka. Rajdeep Sardesai interviewed the renowned health expert to understand the success of the Bengaluru model.

During the show, Dr Devi Shetty explained how every state in the country started at the same point after the outbreak of the pandemic and how Karnataka was effective in managing the crisis.

Praising the BS Yediyurappa-led government, Dr Shetty pointed out that the state government did a good job by co-ordinating every step in the process from the beginning, not just in Bengaluru but also in every single district of the state, which helped them to contain the spread of the pandemic. Dr Shetty also said that strict enforcement of lockdown in the state was also one of the main reason why there was no sudden spike in cases in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru.

Dr Devi Shetty, the founder-chairman, Narayana Health, also added that Karnataka will emerge as the best state in managing this health crisis three months from now as the state is strictly following the coronavirus protocol with aggressive testing, isolation and contact tracing, which has resulted in lesser number of cases and faster growth of recoveries in the state.

Was it because of luck, asks Rajdeep Sardesai

However, a not-so-happy Rajdeep Sardesai, asked Dr Shetty whether the success of the Bengaluru or Karnataka model was because of sheer luck or due to the effective management.

Responding to Rajdeep’s insinuations and attempts to discredit the BJP government in the state, Dr Devi Shetty once again calmly explained how Karnataka was the first state to create a separate COVID hospital by vacating a government hospital. He also said that the state government acted pro-actively by separating coronavirus and non-coronavirus patients, which effectively limited the spread of the virus within the health facilities.

The health expert also mentioned how a protocol was defined to identify the zones and isolating them, added with aggressive tracking and contract tracing. Bengaluru did everything what it was supposed to, said Dr Shetty, while stating that Karnataka is two-weeks ahead of others states in fighting the Chinese pandemic.

Rajdeep Sardesai, notoriously known for spinning the facts, then went on to ask whether the Karnataka performed better because of a strong presence of a private network of hospitals while attempting to take the credit away from the strong Coronavirus response system set up by the BSY-led government in the state.

Responding to Rajdeep Sardesai’s claim, Dr Shetty revealed that not even a single case was referred to the private hospital. He, however, added that the state government had asked the private hospitals to be on stand-by if at all when positive cases rise in the state.

“Even the number of cases rises, Karnataka will not face a problem like other states, mainly because, we have nearly 40 medical college hospitals, which are extremely well equipped with over 8,00,000 beds, addition to private hospitals as stand by,” said Dr Devi Shetty while asserting that Karnataka was the most prepared state in the country to handle the crisis if it aggrevates in the future.

Dr Shetty also took a dig at other states, by stating that Karnataka was not fudging numbers like others. “You can hide positive cases, but cannot hide dead bodies. We are doing more number of tests and managing the whole cycle effectively,” added Dr Shetty.

‘A political football’: When Malcolm X, American Muslim minister and human rights activist, warned African Americans about ‘liberals’

In an undated video clip that has now gone viral on social media, Malcolm X can be heard warning fellow black Americans to be wary of the sinister intentions of the ‘liberals.’ A human rights activist and the spokesperson of the Nation of Islam, he was a prominent figure in the United States’ Civil Rights Movement.

He said, “There are many whites who are trying to solve the problem. But, you never see them going under the label of liberals.” Malcolm highlighted that the White American who identifies as a liberal is the most ‘dangerous’ and ‘deceitful’ thing in the Western Hemisphere.

The Human Rights activist further compares a liberal to a fox, which unlike the wolf, deceits its prey. In other words, Malcolm X suggested that the ‘liberals’ who claim to be the ones fighting for the rights of black Americans is in fact exploiting them for their own benefits.

Accuses liberals of using African Americans as political pawns

In another video, Malcolm said that the issues concerning black Americans were raised by white liberals as part of a vicious power politics to get back at the white conservatives. In his own words, the liberals do so in order to gain power or retain power. Malcolm stated that politics in the United States was no more divided between two parties – Republicans and Democrats. It had turned into a power tussle between the liberals and the conservatives of both parties.

Malcolm stated, “The white liberal differs from the white conservative in one way. The liberal is more deceitful and hypocritical than the conservatives. Both want power. But, the white liberal has perfected the art of posing as the negro’s (sic) friend and benefactor.” He accused the liberals of using the black Americans as ‘political pawns’ in their political struggle against the conservatives.

“The American negro is nothing but a political football and the white liberals control this ball. Through tricks, tokenism, and false promises of integration and civil rights…,” he remarked. He blamed the Black civil rights leaders for selling the black community to the liberals for tokenism.

Race Relations in the US new focus after recent riots

Following the death of George Floyd in the hands of a police officer, race relations between the White and Black community have become the focus of great attention in USA. The United States witnessed widespread riots, looting, arson, vandalism and numerous people were injured in these riots. Some have also lost their lives.

Maharashtra: Indian Medical Association writes letter to CM accusing Shiv Sena minister of threatening and intimidating doctors in Jalgaon

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Maharashtra has written a letter to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray accusing Shiv Sena leader and Water and Sanitation Minister Gulabrao Patil of threatening and intimidating private doctors in Jalgaon.

In the letter to the Maharashtra Chief Minister, the IMA doctors said that a meeting was called by Health Minister Rajesh Tope to discuss the rising coronavirus positive cases in Jalgaon and the local MLA from Jalgaon Gulabrao Patil was also present at the meeting along with various other authorities.

During the meeting, the doctors alleged that Patil put the blame on private doctors for the increase in the cases in the district and also intimidated and threatened the doctors. The doctors further alleged that the authorities warned them of imposing the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act against them.

Narrating their ordeal, the IMA – Maharashtra has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asking why are the local politicians are giving illogical threats to them.

In the letter, the doctors alleged there was gross chaos in administrative system in Jalgaon and said that the health minister had carried out a proper probe to find loopholes within the government system, which according to the doctors, could be the reason for the rise in the number of cases.

“We are definitely aware of the dynamics of ever-changing epidemic scenarios. But the overburdened system cannot use our doctors and medical fraternity as scapegoats,” said the IMA in its scathing letter to CM Thackeray.

The doctors’ body also said that they disapproved such statements, which is very insulting to all the doctors of the IMA, who are delivering so much work consistently during the COVID pandemic.

George Floyd case: Contradictory statements emerge about protestors burning a house with a child inside

Following the extra-judicial killing of a black man named George Floyd by a white police officer in USA, angry ‘protestors’ hit the streets to demonstrate, loot, arson, riot and vandalise properties. On Sunday, the Chief of Richmond Police, William C. Smith, talked about one such incident wherein rioters intentionally set an occupied building, with a child inside, on fire in Broadway street in Richmond city, Virginia.

He claimed that the cops were restricted from getting to the crime scene and had to force their way to provide a clear path for the Fire Department trucks. Smith alleged that the ‘protestors’ tried to block the rescue trucks with vehicles and hinder the evacuation process. Overpowered by the harrowing experience, he remarked, “Inside that home was a child. Officers were able to help those people out of the house. We were able to get the fire department there safely. This is unacceptable to me.. to the police department and to the city of Richmond.”

Contradictory claims by Fire Department

According to US-based fact-checking website Snopes, a Richmond Fire Lieutenant named Christopher Armstrong has provided a contradictory version of the said incident. In an email reply, Armstrong reiterated that the incident took place on North Monroe Street and not Broadway street as stated by Richmond Police Chief.

He claimed that the house was not set on fire but instead a car fire spread to the building. He claimed that the occupants were unharmed, safe, and outside their house by the time fire trucks had reached the location. Armstrong said that the rescue vehicles were not stopped by protestors but instead by burning trash cans. He stated that the occupants were outside of the house.

The Fire Lieutenant said that a protestor tried to stop the fire truck after it was already stopped. Few other protestors joined him and they hurled objects at the truck. The miscreants then evaded the scene when Richmond police officers reached the location. On being asked about the contradictory statements by the Fire Department and the Richmond police Department, the cops said, “We don’t have details on the fire rescue – everyone is extremely busy with on-going protests.”

The Killing of George Floyd

On May 25, a 46-year-old African-American man, George Floyd was reportedly murdered by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, who knelt on the former’s neck for 7 long minutes until his body became unresponsive. A shopkeeper had called the cops on Floyd for allegedly trying to pass a ‘potential counterfeit bill’. Despite the victim complaining about not being able to breathe, coupled with verbal protest from onlookers, the said officer was unmoved. On being taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, Floyd was pronounced dead.

Riots in the United States

After Floyd’s death, violent protests have broken out in several US cities. Frenzied mobs had set the 3rd precinct offices of the police in Minneapolis on fire. On Friday night, US President Donald Trump was reportedly escorted to a special bunker after the violent protests had spread to outside of the White House in Washington, DC. Protestors had gathered outside the Presidential Estate on Friday night and clashes took place between the rioters and the President’s Secret Service. On Saturday, rioters had also desecrated the 142-year old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan in New York, fin the aftermath of the George Floyd Case. Shops have been looted, vehicles have been burned and businesses have been attacked in the violent frenzy rapidly gripping the entire nation.

Congress mouthpiece says ‘Muslims have sat quiet and subdued’: Here is how they are wrong and how their dog-whistling might not work

The Congress party has based its entire future on the politics of fear-mongering. In order to gain the support of the Muslim vote-bank, Congress has taken increasingly more radical positions with time. On Friday, the National Herald published an article that said that the first year of Modi Sarkar 2.0 has been the ‘worst possible year’ for Muslims in the country.

In the said article, the author Humra Qureshi indulges in plain victim-mongering as she relies on half-truths and complete lies in order to peddle her agenda. The author began with the death of Tabrez Ansari and ended with the conduct of the Tablighi Jamaat during the Coronavirus crisis. And in all of these instances, care was taken to ensure that all Muslims are portrayed as innocent lambs even though that is certainly not the case.

National Herald article shielding Islamists

The article begins with a distortion. It does not mention that Tabrez Ansari was thrashed on the accusation of theft. As such, it did not matter if the person was Hindu or Muslim, the mob would have treated him the same. And as unfortunate as it is, lynchings on the accusation of theft is not a phenomenon that is unheard of. The motivation for the murder was not hate for Muslims, it was the allegation of theft. The author conveniently chooses not to mention this.

The author then goes on to assert that the Ayodhya Verdict was a ‘provocation’ for Muslims. Regardless of her intentions, calling a unanimous verdict delivered by the highest of the country a ‘provocation’ is extremely troubling. That the mouthpiece of the country’s largest opposition party chose to publish such drivel perfectly explains why its future looks so bleak.

The major part, however, was the manner in which the author vouches for the Ummah. According to her, the abrogation of Article 370 does not just affect the people of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh but Muslims in all of India. She says, “Yes, the community was very apprehensive as they were aware of the clampdown in the Kashmir Valley after striking down Article 370 in the first week of August 2019, which relayed the extent to which the government could go to upset an entire region and its inhabitants.”

Excerpt of National Herald article

The author then false claims that the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and NPR will affect the citizenship of people from the Muslim community. It is a preposterous lie that has been busted over and over again but liberals refuse resolutely to retract their claims. ‘Repeat a lie enough and it becomes the truth,’ liberals do seem to have incorporated Goebbelsian propaganda into their framework quite well.

The author then proceeded to say, “Even before Spring of 2020 could arrive, came in news of the targeted killings of Muslims, in North East Delhi. Yet the hate speech givers and the goon brigades backed by the political mafia were not detained nor arrested despite the fact that there was sufficient evidence to show the role played by particular Right- Wing men who’d come up with communally charged abusive speeches and much more along the strain.”

Quite amazingly, the author ignores the continuous provocations that the radical Muslims indulged in during the course of the anti-CAA riots. The rampant vandalism and violence, arson, slogans such as ‘Jinnah wali Azadi‘, Hinduphobic comments and posters, all of it is ignored. Even investigation which has revealed a deeper conspiracy by radical Muslim outfits and individuals has been entirely ignored. Instead, the entire blame has been placed at the feet of Hindus.

It is the most shameless bit of propaganda that the author has peddled in her article. The deaths of Ankit Sharma and numerous other Hindus have been completely ignored as if their lives do not matter at all. And the Congress party published this drivel. It is no wonder then that the citizens of this country are turning away from them en masse.

The author also absolved the Tablighi Jamaat of all their crimes and claimed that they were targeted because they were Muslim. The sexual harassment of female healthcare staff, the spitting, the attacks on the medical community, the deliberate efforts to avoid detection by authorities, all of it is brushed under the carpet under the mask of Muslim victimhood.

The most atrocious bit of propaganda was the claim that the Muslims have sat ‘quite and subdued’. This could not be farther from the truth. Violent Muslim mobs have rioted, attacked the police and sparked the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi which caused great damage to life and property. How much more would it take for the Congress party to admit that sections of the Muslim community have erred and it is not always the Hindus’ fault?

The continued to victim-mongering does no good to anyone. It only fuels a misguided sense of disillusionment with India as a whole which tends to have devastating consequences for social harmony. By continuing to peddle such propaganda in denial of reality, liberals and the Congress party are preparing the ground for the next spree of communal violence.

Sharjeel Imam was conspiring to cut off North East India from the rest of the country and he had great support from significant sections of ‘intellectuals’ from his community. They were not sitting ‘quiet and subdued’.

They are fully aware that such propaganda provides more ammunition in the hands of extremist Muslim organisations to indoctrinate their youth and increase their ranks. And even then, even if a section of Muslims conspire to unleash violence on the streets, they will continue to blame Hindus for the same.

Andhra Pradesh: Migrant worker attempts to commit suicide after rumours of ghost in a ‘haunted’ quarantine centre in Kurnool

A migrant worker attempted to commit suicide after rumours spread that the government model school which was converted into a quarantine facility was haunted. He was part of a group of 113 migrant workers who reached Kurnool from Thane in Maharashtra on May 18 and were taken to the government model school at Kosigi village in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

Fearing the presence of a ghost, and with officials unwilling to let them out, the 47-year-old migrant worker attempted suicide in the facility by hanging from a window of the school building with the help of a cloth on Thursday.

Migrant worker attempts to commit suicide after officials refuse to let him return home

After rumours of the facility being haunted spread amongst the inmates, the labourer, who had tested positive for coronavirus and is undergoing treatment, and many others, requested the officials to let them go. But as the coronavirus test result of the migrant labourers were still awaited, officials refused to allow them to return to their homes.

This prompted the labourer to hang himself from the window. Fortunately, other inmates of the quarantine centre rescued him and he was sent to a government hospital in Adoni where his condition was declared stable.

Health authorities in Andhra Pradesh to provide psychological assistance at all quarantine centres

Owing to this incident, health authorities have decided to provide psychological assistance at all quarantine centres to those who are either under treatment or are undergoing mandatory quarantine.

Another man commits suicide in quarantine centre in Bihar

In another incident, a 40-year old resident of Bihar’s Gopalganj, who was put up at a quarantine centre at Bodh Gaya after returning from Saudi Arabia on June 3, allegedly committed suicide early Friday.

Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra confirmed that the youth was visited by his brother and in-laws on Thursday and he was pressurizing them to get him “released” from the quarantine centre, but officials ignored their plea on the ground that all returnees from abroad have to undergo 14 days in quarantine. Upset by this, the youth identified as Vickky Kumar, a native of Chhatia village in Gopalganj, jumped to death from Nigma Monasteries quarantine centre under the jurisdiction of Bodh Gaya police station in Bihar.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal hails PM Modi’s lockdown decision, says the timely lockdown was instrumental in equipping the country against the coronavirus

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal today lauded PM Modi’s timely decision to call for a nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country in mid-March. Kejriwal added that the move to impose sweeping restrictions provided state governments with ample time to mount a robust response to the coronavirus crisis.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief was speaking to journalist Kishore Ajwani of the CNN News 18 where he praised the central government’s promptness in protecting the country from the scourge of coronavirus.

Without lockdown, country could have observed ‘remarkable outburst’ of cases, says Kejriwal

“I believe the decision to impose nationwide lockdown was apposite for that moment. At that time, no state government was ready to battle the menace of coronavirus. People were unaware of the coronavirus. All the countries were proving to be incapable of battling its spread. If we hadn’t imposed lockdown at that time, we would have seen a remarkable outburst of infections across the country,” Kerjiwal said.

The Delhi chief minister also added that the enforcement of lockdown providing sufficient time for the state government and local administration to equip themselves with vital medical equipment such PPEs, masks, rapid testing kits and other paraphernalia that are critical to a nation’s fight against the enigmatic contagion.

Arvind Kejriwal says lockdown gave states ample time to prepare

“Before lockdown, we had no PPEs, rapid testing kits, RTPCR kits, masks and other equipment required to battle the coronavirus. We had nothing. Within 2 months of lockdown, we have done all the preparations in Delhi. We have sufficient PPE kits, RTPCR kits, rapid testing kits, oxygen beds, and additional beds in private hospitals to tackle the coronavirus crisis,” Kejriwal said.

While lauding the central government for being on their toes when the pandemic silently crept up in India, Kejriwal said that the two months of lockdown provided the state governments enough buffer time to shore up their medical preparedness. He added that the vital heads-up provided the Delhi government to set up 8,500 beds for the infected people. He further claimed that efforts are underway to scale up their capacities upto 20,000 beds in the national capital.

“People in Italy, Spain died because the medical facilities of those countries were overwhelmed by disproportionate number of infections. There were only 2,000 beds in hospital but more than 8,000 people down with the infection. People died there in huge numbers because lack of treatment. Here in Delhi, all the preparations to treat the sick have been done. So far the mortality rate is under control. People will get infected by coronavirus but we are now equipped to treat them and send them back after they recover from the virus,” he said.

George Floyd Autopsy: Tested positive for Coronavirus, report reveals fentanyl intoxication, recent meth use, cardiopulmonary arrest listed as cause of death

The death of George Floyd at the hands of Police unleashed a wave of violence and anarchy across the streets of USA. Stores were looted, buildings were vandalised and set on fire, innocent men and women were thrashed, some were killed and ultimately, the National Guards had to be deployed in order to bring the situation under control.

On May 25, George Floyd was allegedly murdered by white police officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on the former’s neck for more than 8 minutes until his body became unresponsive. A shopkeeper had called the cops on Floyd for allegedly trying to pass a ‘potential counterfeit bill’. On being taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, he was declared dead.

Cause of Death of George Floyd: Cardiopulmonary Arrest

His autopsy report has now come forward. It was conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office of Hennepin County. The autopsy revealed blunt force injuries on the forehead, face and upper lips. It also recorded patterned contusions that are consistent with those made by handcuffs. In addition, the report said that George Floyd suffered from diseases and and had a left pelvic tumor.

The autopsy report concludes that the cause of George Floyd’s death was “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.” In lay men’s terms, the cause of death is heart failure. The independent examiner hired by the Floyd family had reached a different conclusion, which had said “asphyxiation from sustained pressure.”

George Floyd tested positive for COVID-19

The autopsy report also revealed that Floyd had contracted the novel Coronavirus. The report says, “The decedent was known to be positive for 2019-nCoV RNA on 4/3/2020. Since PCR positivity for 2019-nCoV RNA can persist for weeks after the onset and resolution of clinical disease, the autopsy result most likely reflects asymptomatic but persistent PCR positivity from previous infection.”

Autopsy Report finds traces of drugs in the blood

According to the toxicology report, George Floyd had fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis compounds and morphine in his blood. It indicated recent meth use. However, these were not listed as cause of death. Fentanyl is an opioid that is often smuggled into the United States from China. The USA is currently suffering an opioid crisis as well and it has often blamed China for not cracking down enough on the flow of it into the country.

Non-bailable charges like “attempt to murder” will be filed for creating ruckus in quarantine centres: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Health, Finance, Education, and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that any person creating a ruckus in the quarantine centres will be slapped with non-bailable charges equivalent to “attempt to murder”.

Until now, Assam was only charging the accused with IPC section 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and section 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), both bailable with a jail term of six months only.

Assam Health Minister issues strict warning to trouble makers at quanrantine centres

“Those who are creating any sort of obstructions to the health workers while doing their duties, any sort of misconduct, will lead to their arrest, and (accused) will be consecutively booked under non-bailable charges such as an attempt to murder,” Sarma said on Thursday, amid reports of ruckus by inmates in at least two quarantine centres in Assam’s Bongaigaon and Chirang districts.

He further said that patients can contact him directly if they face any issues inside the quarantine centres.

Incidents of misconduct reported from quarantine facilities in Assam

According to reports, in Bongaigaon’s quarantine facility, inmates had allegedly abused the health workers over the quality of food, while the inmates from Chirang quarantine centre had reportedly fled. On being caught, they too complained about the food quality.

“We are going through a sensitive time and the moral of the health workers, who are fighting the COVID battle for us in the frontline, should not be hampered. Also, such kind of negligence by those in quarantine centres can put other’s lives at risk. A steadfast action against them is the call of the hour,” said Binisha Devi, a health worker.

There have been many such incidents where the people were caught jumping the quarantine or misbehaving with the health workers. In Golaghat, some people were found spitting inside the compound, despite clear warning that bodily fluids can be major carriers of the virus.

A section of patients vandalised a coronavirus care centre in Agartala reportedly alleging “poor quality food”, forcing the authorities to initiate a probe into the incident.

Earlier, there were many instances where Tablighi Jamaat members had reportedly engaged in similar unlawful behaviour with doctors, healthcare workers, police and government officials.

Tablighi Jamaat misbehavior

The Tablighi Jamaat congregation has turned out to be a hot spot after it emerged as a single source for thousands of positive cases in India. The event took place in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz in the second week of March 2020. Many of the attendees who were taken to quarantine centres and hospitals were later found misbehaving with the hospital staff and harassing them. Many even spat on the doctors, sexually harrassed nurses, attacked policemen and also hurled stones on the authorities in a bid to evade testing.

No medical aid and supplies from Pakistan to deal with coronavirus pandemic in PoK, activists allege shortage of food in the region

The population of the Gilgit-Baltistan region is facing the worst crisis due to coronavirus pandemic and a shortage of essential medical supplies. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, they are facing several other threats like starvation and death as the occupier Pakistan has failed to provide assistance to the region.

The region illegally occupied by Pakistan has reported more than 800 coronavirus cases, but unfortunately, the region lacks the basic medical facilities. As per reports, the region of Gilgit-Baltistan has only two ventilators of outdated models. The activists in the region have been alleging that the region has not received any medical supplies from Pakistan in dealing with the raging coronavirus pandemic situation.

Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza, an activist from POK took to twitter stating, “Only two ventilators available in Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan and China have started the construction of $14 billion Diamer-Basha Dam today. This clearly shows that Pakistani military or civil governments do not care about out people.”

Reportedly, the region is observing lockdown from the last two months during which the lack of essential commodities and medical supplies is worsening the condition of the people. The small businesses in the region are facing a crisis.

Mohammad Bakar Mehedi, a lawyer based in Astore said, “The spread of coronavirus has led to widespread unemployment in Gilgit-Baltistan. There is no place to address the grievance. Infaltion is sky-rocketing. The government has not been proactive. They have issued deadlines till 5 pm in some cases. Does corona virus not transmit after 5 pm?”

“They(government) receive funds and donations, but they use funds for their own purpose and not for the welfare of the people. However, they do not realize that it is the people who have mandated them for power and position. I hereby request the authorities to pay attention to the region, which was already deprived of rights. Now with coronavirus, the unemployment has grown massively,” he added.

Pakistan government deliberately spreading the virus to get more international aid

Prior to this the POK activist Nasir Aziz Khan has alleged that Pakistan is deliberately spreading the Chinese Coronavirus to claim international aid. The Kashmiri activists have slammed the terror-state of Pakistan for shifting coronavirus affected people from the eastern province of Punjab and the rest of the country to Mirpur city in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to help spread the disease and to seek more aid from the international agencies.

Nasir added that there are no basic health facilities and they used to take their patients to other parts of Pakistan for treatment. Some patients die while transporting them to hospitals due to poor road infrastructure, added the activist. The activist said that there is no testing facility in the PoK that could do basic blood and urine tests and noted the coronavirus test needs trained doctors and testing kits.
