NIA conducts raids in two locations in Tamil Nadu in ISIS terror module case

0

Continuing with crackdown on ISIS terror modules in south Indian states, the NIA conducted raids in two places in Tamil Nadu. The raids were conducted at the houses of suspected ISIS terrorists in Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli based on warrants issued by a NIA special court in Ernakulam. The raids were conducted in a case related to ISIS-inspired terror module which was registered in Coimbatore in May this year.

A case was registered against 6 persons for propagating ISIS ideology on internet and social media, as well as trying to recruit youths into ISIS and plotting terror attacks in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. They were also linked with Zahran Hashim, the Sri Lankan Easter bomber. Earlier the houses of all six were searched by NIA and several incriminating materials were recovered. Two arrests were made after those raids.

In today’s operations, the houses of Alavudeen in Thansavur and S Sarfudeen in Tiruchirapalli were raided by the agency. Several digital devices including two laptops, 6 mobile phones, 11 SIM cards, and other devices like pen drives, hard drives, CDs and DVDs along with documents were seized. An axe was also recovered from the suspects.

The seized items and documents will be submitted to the NIA special court, and will be subjected to forensic examination. The two suspects are being interrogated to ascertain their association with other persons already arrested for links with terrorism and also to know their link with ISIS inspired terror activities.

In September last year, a Special Investigation Unit of the Coimbatore police had foiled a plot by seven-members of an IS-inspired Islamic group in Tamil Nadu to murder Sampath, Hindu Munnani leader Mookambikai Mani and Sakthi Sena leader Anbu Mari.

Since then NIA has been working and collecting intelligence in various cities of south India and looking into activities of suspected radical youths.

The NIA officials stated that Tamil Nadu tops the list of Indian states where anti-terror agencies have unearthed modules of Salafi jihadi terrorist organization IS over a period of five years since 2014. The NIA has claimed to have arrested 127 IS sympathisers from across India since 2014 and 33 were from Tamil Nadu.

Lately, Coimbatore has become a hub of Islamic terror as in July the NIA had nabbed the Islamic state module conducting raids on several locations in the city. The arrested terror sympathisers were in touch with Zahran Hashim, the main accused in the Sri Lanka bombings, over Facebook.

A woman’s account locked by Twitter for 7 days for demanding justice for woman who was raped and burnt

The country has been gripped with horror after the rape and brutal murder of a veterinary doctor from Hyderabad came to the fore. The 27-year-old Preeti Reddy (name changed) was brutally murdered after being raped and her charred body was discovered by the police. 4 arrests have been made in the case so far. The brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves in the country and Twitter was no different with Netizens demanding justice. Twitter, however, oblivious to the angst, seems to have locked a woman’s account for 7 days because she demanded justice for the victim.

Suresh Nakhua, the BJP spokesperson of Mumbai, Maharashtra tweeted that the Twitter account of a lady who went by the handle @HittsVora has been locked by Twitter for 7 days. The screenshot posted by Suresh was presumably received by the women @HittsVora from Twitter.

The tweet that is in contention by @HittsVora read, “This beasts should be hanged publicly! Shame on us if we can’t give justice to this victim!”. The lady had then tagged the official handles of CMO Telangana, the CM and also Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.

We have learnt that the tweet @HittsVora was responding to was news about a woman being brutally raped and charred to death in Telangana, Hyderabad.

The police have arrested four accused in the case. According to the reports, the four accused had pre-planned the crime after they had noticed that the victim had parked her two-wheeler at the Tondupally toll plaza. The accused assumed that the lady would come to pick it up later in the evening. The accused then flattened the tyre. The prime accused was one Md Pasha. Other accused are Naveen from Gudigandla, cleaner Kesavulu, and an assistant named Siva.

As Preeti Reddy (name changed) was returning home from work a little after 8 pm to pick her vehicle, she noticed a flat tyre. She immediately called her sister, who suggested that she leave her two-wheeler at the toll plaza and take a cab home. Before she could, two men approached her, who offered to take her vehicle for repair.

The woman was allegedly ambushed and dragged into the bushes by the accused barely 50 metres from Tondupally toll plaza behind a line of trucks that was parked near the road. Her charred body was found under an underpass today morning.

According to police, the accused took her body to an under-construction bridge a few kilometres away and set it on fire. The police stated that the victim’s innerwear and some other objects including an alcohol bottle found around 100 metres from the spot led them to believe she was sexually assaulted before being killed.

There is now widespread outrage on Twitter as Netizens see nothing in @HittsVora’s tweet that could or should violate Twitter rules and her account be locked. A woman, outraged by the brutal murder of another was merely demanding justice and Twitter’s insistence that the tweet be deleted by the woman have angered the already horrified Netizens.

Pakistani channel insults Sikhs by showing them dancing like jokers for opening of Kartarpur Corridor

0

Weeks after the Kartapur Sahib Corridor was formally opened by India and Pakistan, a Pakistani channel has created controversy by insulting Sikhs. A skit by Geo News Urdu shows actors dressed as Sikhs celebrating the opening of Kartarpur corridor, but the way it has been executed humiliates the Sikh people and Sikh religion.

The program on the channel begins by the anchor introducing several men and women dressed as Sikhs, one of them trying to mimic Navjot Sing Sidhu. The channel shows Sikhs as jokers dancing Bhangra on the set, which is supposed to be the Kartarpur corridor, to express their happiness on the opening of the corridor. One of the fake Sikhs wearing a red turban has been presented as an eccentric person who attempts to flirt with the female anchor and even tries to hug her. The program presents a caricature of Sikhs which is insulting for the community.

The skit has not gone well with Sikhs who criticised it, asking not to humiliate the community. One person named Rajinder Puri wrote, “Don’t try to present Sikh community as joker please, you won’t find any baptized Sikh dancing like you guys presented in this video. All Sikhs living abroad don’t like this video.” Tarnjit Walia said, “We would not do Bhangra in or near gurudawaras. Aisha we do waheguru jaap.”

Akali Dal MLA from Delhi Manjinder S Sirsa objected to the video, saying Anti-Sikh Propaganda in Pakistan continues. He said that the skit shows Sikhs as cartoons which greatly hurts sentiments of Sikhs. He urged Pakistan PM Imran Khan to order the withdrawal of such skit and take action against such agenda-setters.

Sharad Pawar had sent message to PM Modi and Amit Shah with two demands for his support in Maharashtra, they rejected both

Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena has finally been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra after Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP alliance formed the government in the state. The development came after Ajit Pawar of NCP had withdrawn support from the BJP government leading to the resignation of Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as CM and Deputy CM respectively. It now appears that Sharad Pawar himself was ready to offer support to BJP and had sent communication with two demands to PM Modi and HM Amit Shah, and BJP had rejected them both, leading to the fall of the 3-day old alliance between Ajit Pawar and BJP.

Sharad Pawar, the NCP supremo had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah with two conditions to support the government formation in Maharashtra. Both these demands were reportedly rejected by the party.

Demand 1: Removal of Devendra Fadnavis

According to IANS, the first demand that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar had placed before PM Modi and Amit Shah was that Devendra Fadnavis should not be Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and that he should be removed.

It is unclear as to why Pawar was adamant about Devendra Fadnavis being removed as the CM of Maharashtra. Either way, this demand was summarily rejected by BJP. PM Modi and Amit Shah were never in favour of removing Devendra Fadnavis since he had completed his 5-year tenure without any controversy or allegations.

Devendra Fadnavis was the first Chief Minister to complete his 5-year tenure in 47 years.

Apart from this, the party contested the elections with Fadnavis as the CM face and even the Prime Minister, while addressing the party workers from the BJP headquarters on 24 October, had announced him as the Chief Minister. Hence, it was difficult for the BJP to accept this demand from the NCP supremo.

Demand 2: Agriculture Ministry to Supriya Sule

The second demand that Sharad Pawar posed to PM Modi and Amit Shah was the Agriculture Ministry be given to Supriya Sule.

According to IANS, this demand was rejected as well. BJP thought that if it decided to offer the agriculture ministry to the NCP, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), its ally from Bihar, will demand the railway ministry. In this situation, despite having the mandate, the BJP would lose two big ministries.

The 40-minute meeting between Sharad Pawar and PM Modi

After NCP supremo Sharad Pawar got no response on these two demands from the BJP, Pawar had met PM Modi and conducted a 40-minute meeting regarding the same. According to IANS, during the 40-minute meeting between Sharad Pawar and PM Modi, the Prime Minister did not agree to the demands posed by Sharad Pawar.

On 22 November, Sharad Pawar’s nephew and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar offered support to the BJP. It was said that Ajit Pawar had the backing of around 30-35 MLAs who were ready to support the BJP.

It was also speculated that Sharad Pawar gave his tactical consent to his nephew’s move but afterwards, he took to Twitter to deny the alliance of the NCP with the BJP.

According to speculations, though Sharad Pawar had distanced himself publicly, Ajit Pawar had Sharad Pawar’s tacit support in his alliance. Pawar had hoped that BJP will eventually concede to both demands posed by Sharad Pawar however, that did not happen and thus, Ajit Pawar was asked to retreat and NCP joined hands with Congress and Shiv Sena to form the government.

Dilip Deodhar, the RSS ideologue from Nagpur, told IANS, “There was a buzz about Sharad Pawar’s demands in the Sangh, but Modi’s denial was more than that. Since the farmers’ issue is one of the main matters in the state, the agriculture ministry would have been the best bet for the NCP. Sharad Pawar had earlier served as the agriculture minister.

“Secondly, Fadnavis was the choice of Modi so there was no question of replacing him. When Sharad Pawar finally understood that the BJP will not agree to his demands, he decided to ally with the Sena and the Congress.”

London Bridge Jihadi of Pakistan origin was jailed for 8 years for another terror plot where he wanted to unleash 26/11 like carnage in London

On Friday a man was shot dead by the London Police in what is now being called a terrorist attack. The terrorist, now identified as Usman Khan stabbed multiple people near London Bridge before being tackled to the ground by bystanders. He was wearing a fake suicide vest and was eventually shot dead by the police. He is reported to be of Pakistan origin. He left school with no qualifications after spending part of his late teens in Pakistan, where he lived with his mother when she became ill.

Usman Khan had gone on a stabbing rampage just before 2 PM (1400 GMT) near the London Bridge, an area that had seen a deadly terrorist attack just two years ago.

A video that went viral on social media shows police officers dragging a bystander from atop the terrorist before the police took aim to shoot him dead. The knife-wielding terrorist was tackled to the ground by over a dozen bystanders who showed exemplary courage.

It is now being reported that Anti-terror police have raided a house in Staffordshire area which was linked to Khan. In a shocking twist of events, it is now also being confirmed that the London Bridge Jihadi Usman Khan had a prior terrorism conviction and had been jailed for eight years in 2012. He was released on licence in December 2018 and was still wearing a monitoring tag.

Commissioner Basu confirmed Khan had been attending a seminar in Fishmongers’ Hall run by Cambridge University’s Criminology Department to help offenders reintegrate into society following their release from jail.

Previously, Usman Khan was arrested on December 20th 2010 for wanting to plant bombs in several toilets in the London Stock Exchange. This terror plot was hatched by Usman Khan along with 9 others. His terror group was an “Al Qaeda inspired group” as is being reported by the local media.

Police found a handwritten list of targets which included the U.S. Embassy and the homes of London Mayor Boris Johnson, the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral and two rabbis.

The gang also carried out surveillance of other possible targets including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Palace of Westminster and the London Eye.

The group planned to send five bombs in the post to London synagogues and the Church of Scientology headquarters, as well as spreading panic in Stoke-on-Trent by planting bombs in pub and club toilets. Their plot was foiled after the security services bugging their homes and cars heard discussions of a ‘Mumbai’ atrocity on the streets of Britain. They were referring to the terror attacks of 28th November 2008 where terrorists from Pakistan had laid siege on Mumbai killing over 174 people and injuring well above 300.

The Jihadis had also been funding a proposed Madarsa, which was to be used for firearms training and which would have been attended by Khan. They had planned to launch terror training camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). His aim was to establish Sharia law.

The Prime Minister of Britain, Boris Johnson has said that it is a “mistake” to allow criminals to leave prison early and vowed to increased police presence following the “heartbreaking” attack. “Obviously our thoughts are very much them and their families, their loved ones, everybody affected by the attack,” he told reporters. “My thanks go first of all to the emergency services — the police, for their bravery and their professionalism, and to repeat again and give thanks again to members of the public who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others. I think they represent the best in our country. I thank them on behalf of the rest of our country”, the British PM added.

In yet another shocking incident, a 25-year-old law student was abducted and raped by 12 men at gunpoint at a brick kiln near Ranchi. According to reports, all 12 men have been arrested and they have confessed to their crime.

The FIR lodged by the victim at Kanke police station states that the incident happened at around 5.30 pm on November 26. The victim was chatting with her friend near a bus stop in Sangrampur area, in the city outskirts, when two motorcycle-borne men accosted them and abducted the victim at gunpoint after overpowering her friend, police said.

The place from where the victim was abducted, is barely 4km from her law college campus and 10 km from the chief minister’s official residence. The high-security zone also houses the residences of the DGP, chief justice of the Jharkhand high court and the leader of the opposition. The new police lines are also close to the area.

After the bike reportedly ran out of fuel, the two motorcycle-borne men made calls to their friends asking them to come with a car. They then drove to the brick kiln and took turns to rape the woman.

The victim managed to reach the police station the next morning and narrated her ordeal to the police after which an FIR was lodged. Based on the complaint the police conducted raids and arrested the 12 accused identified as Sunil Munda, Kuldeep Oraon, Sunil Oraon, Sandeep Tirkey, Ajay Munda, Rajan Oraon, Naveen Oraon, Aman Oraon, Basant Kachhap, Ravi Oraon, Rohit Oraon and Rishi Oraon. Shockingly, this is the third such incident which has been reported in the last three days, second being reported from Kolkata while the third from Hyderabad. Prior to this, we reported how two minor girls were abducted by three teenage boys from outside Kalighat temple in Kolkata and raped thereafter.

In another spine chilling incident, a 27-year-old veterinarian Dr Potula Priyanka Reddy was brutally raped, murdered and set ablaze in the outskirts of Hyderabad city on Wednesday night. The Telangana police have now confirmed that Priyanka Reddy was kidnapped and gang-raped. Four people have been reportedly arrested in connection with the case. BHU professor Firoz Khan issues statement, urges media to stop spreading rumours against him

0

The Banaras Hindu University has been embroiled in a massive controversy. For the past fortnight, students of the Dharma Vigyan Department have been protesting against the appointment of a Muslim professor in SVDV (Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan) department of the BHU.

Now, the university’s information and public relations office has issued a statement in which professor Firoz Khan, whose appointment in the theology department of BHU had created displeasure amongst the students of the Dharma Vigyan Department, has been quoted as criticising media for creating false news and spreading rumours against him.

The statement reads that many media outlets are spreading wrong information about the professor’s whereabouts as to where he is presently staying, with who is he interacting and under whose influence or protection he has been working. It further states that various local, national and international media houses have been attributing terms like ‘gumshuda’ (missing), ‘shehar choda’ (left the city), ‘underground’, ‘vanishing’, to him, which are malicious and are damaging his reputation. He also said that there is just no need or any reason for him to leave or flee the city.

Khan further said that his statements are also being distorted and misrepresented by media which he said is condemnable. He added that due to this false and malicious reportage people are becoming apprehensive, besides developing a false notion against him.

Dr Firoz Khan is quoted as saying: “Every morning when I get to see false and malicious news printed in the newspapers against me I feel very hurt. There are various such fictitious things which are also being shared on social media, which saddens me. I urge everyone to refrain from spreading and believing in such false news”, said Khan.

He added that “being affiliated to a prestigious university like the Banaras Hindu University, I am not only aware of my duties but also respect and follow the rules and regulations of that place”.

“I want to continue teaching, I appeal to everyone to let me and my family live in peace and let me do my duties properly”, said the professor.

He said that it is his privilege that he was appointed to the Dharma Vigyan Department. “I am indebted for being given this opportunity to teach on the land of Mahamana. Guided by Mahamana’s values and teaching, I am committed to adhering to the university’s rules and deliver by best. I am sure that my dedication and hard work will be recognised by the students, faculties and University administration. I once again appeal not to create a fearful environment by sharing and spreading false and fictitious news”, the professor was quoted in the statement as saying.

It is noteworthy that when the students were protesting about the appointment of Professor Feroz Khan, all the media groups across the country ran this news as if the appointment of a Muslim teacher was being opposed in the BHU itself or in the Sanskrit language department of the university, but that is not the case.

In reality, the current protests are against the appointment of a non-Hindu to the ‘Faculty of Theology’. There are two departments for Sanskrit in BHU, one under Arts Faculty and the other under SVDV Faculty. The first is the study of Sanskrit language and the other is the theology of religion. There are different ways of studying in these two. Sanskrit is taught as a language in the Sanskrit department. On the other hand, in the SVDV,  students are taught about the customs, mantras, shlokas, rituals of worship and rituals of Sanatan Dharma.

In the Dharma Vigyan Department, even Sanskrit is learnt with an interpretation of theology and hence, the students were demanding that only a practising Hindu be allowed to teach them in the Dharma Vigyan department.

The three accused have been booked under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

In another spine chilling incident, a 27-year-old veterinarian Dr Potula Priyanka Reddy was brutally raped, murdered and set ablaze in the outskirts of Hyderabad city on Wednesday night.
