Qureshi threatened the girl saying that as soon as she turned 18, he would convert her to Islam. A complaint has been filed under sections 354 (K), 352, 504, and 506 and against religious conversion under sections 3 and 4.
As the girl refused to leave Mansuri and refused to stay with her parents, her father called the media and offered her a coffin, further publicly declaring that she was now dead for him and his family.
SP Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the incident and said that the accused had been booked for an attempt to murder. "Further sections will be added after the post-mortem reports are made available," he added.

A case has been registered against both of them under sections 354 and 3/5 of the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act 2018. An additional section has been invoked on the son for molestation.
The original identity of the accused was exposed after the duo decided to marry each other in March this year. The woman said that while signing the marriage documents, 'Shailendra' wrote his name as Jameel.
