During a panel discussion program on India Today, Marya Shakil said that in the Bihar of 1990s, “Lalu Prasad Yadav was a political necessity. When he carried out the movement of ‘Bhura Baal Saaf Karo’ and the entire movement against the upper castes, that was the need of the hour.”
“In Bihar’s electoral battle, there is now a pair of two Yuvraajs who consider themselves heirs to power. These two Yuvraajs have opened shops of false promises. One is the Yuvraaj of India’s most corrupt family, and the other is the Yuvraaj of Bihar’s most corrupt family. Both of them are out on bail in scams worth thousands of crores of rupees...” he said.
The Prime Minister said that where “Katuta” and “Krurta” reign, law fails; where "bitterness" prevails, there is no goodwill in society. He questioned whether such people can ever do any good to Bihar.
The Mahagathbandhan’s Bihar manifesto pledges massive welfare schemes including employment for every family, cash allowances and free electricity, but the estimated Rs 5.8 lakh crore bill could push the state into a financial and debt crisis.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 2nd April and Rajya Sabha on 4th April this year. It received presidential assent on 5th April 2025 and became an Act.
