Gujarat election: Congress VP Rahul Gandhi caught lying, again

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting poll-bound Gujarat, was caught lying again during his rally.

In a tweet posted by their newly appointed social media head Divya Spandana, who herself was caught spreading lies on social media, Gandhi is heard referring to The Wire’s so-called ‘exposé’ on Jay Shah, son of BJP President Amit Shah, insinuating financial irregularities in a company where Jay is a director.

In the video, a journalist is heard asking Gandhi his views on the article which OpIndia has debunked point by point. At 00:37 in the video, Gandhi alleges that Temple Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., the company Shah is a director in, made a profit of Rs. 80 crore. While as per the company records, the company had a turnover of Rs. 80.5 crore and a net loss (not profit) of 1.48 crore.

Spandana was mocked for referring to Gandhi’s gaffe as “his wittiest best”.

This is not the first time Congress scion has goofed up in his recent rallies in Gujarat. During his September rally in Gujarat, he lied that Sardar Patel’s Statue of Unity will be built in China, despite the clarification being issued by L&T that most of the statue will be built in India, with only the bronze cladding in the form of bronze plates, comprising of about 9% of total project cost, is being sourced from China. The very next day, he lied again. He claimed that PM Modi had waived off loan worth Rs. 1.3 lakh crore for 15 industrialists, which was again debunked by OpIndia.

Gandhi’s gaffe and Divya Spandana’s sharing a video which has Gandhi saying factually incorrect thing is quite an amusement since Divya’s brief, as soon as she joined the Congress team, from Gandhi himself was “Focus on the truth.” Two wrongs do not make a right, but three wrongs make a Rahul Gandhi claim.
