Smriti Irani demands trial against Congress’ Sanjay Nirupam for derogatory remarks against her, won’t accept apology

Union Minister Smriti Irani has demanded a trial against Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam who had made a derogatory remark against her back in 2012, ANI has reported.

As per the report, Nirupam had made a sexist remark against Irani during a debate on a news channel where he alleged that she used to charge money to dance on television before becoming an election analyst.

Following this, Irani had filed a defamation case against Nirupam and the Congress leader had followed it up by filing a criminal defamation case against her, wherein he alleged that she had defamed him by casting direct aspersions against his character.

Irani has also alleged that Nirpuam had continued making derogatory comments against her like, “Iss aurat ko Supreme Court jaane ka shauk hai” (this woman is fond of going to Supreme Court).

Hence during a court hearing with regards to these matters on Thursday, she categorically stated that she was neither willing to settle the case nor was she going to apologise to Nirupam.

Following this stance by Irani, Nirupam’s lawyer made a statement that in order for the case to settle apology needs to be tendered by both the parties. The hearing in this matter is expected to continue on Friday.

Even though Irani has filed a defamation case against him, Nirupam has been in no mood to stop his spree of sexist and defamatory statements.

We had recently reported how the Congress leader had tweeted an extremely misogynist and condescending tweet referring to Irani as ‘Bahurani’ (daughter in law), which seems like a reference to very popular serial starring Irani, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Incidentally, Smriti Irani isn’t the only public figure who has been at the receiving end of Nirupam’s derogatory statements. Post the Karnataka elections Nirupam had cooked up a storm after he equated to Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala with a dog.
