On 25th January, Ghaziabad Police arrested a man named Imran for allegedly repeatedly raping a Hindu married woman and attempting to convert her to Islam. The accused reportedly lured the woman on 9th January to go with him. Following her husband’s complaint, the police took swift action and arrested Imran. The woman has been rescued.
Content of the FIR
The FIR against Imran was lodged based on a complaint from the victim’s husband. In his complaint, the husband accused Imran of manipulating and luring his wife into leaving the house. The FIR stated that Imran introduced the woman to a cleric and encouraged her to perform namaz. She was also pressured to consider changing her name and converting to Islam. Furthermore, the husband alleged that the victim left the house with jewellery and cash.
The complaint was filed on 24th January under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.
The husband stated in his complaint that Imran, who is a resident of Khoda, knew his wife since before marriage. He had been in contact with the woman for several months. On the night of 9th January, the woman went missing. The husband tried to find her on his own but failed, after which he filed an official complaint at the Vijay Nagar Police Station.
Media reports suggest that the woman began showing an inclination towards Islam, which raised suspicions. The husband provided information such as Imran’s phone number, which led to his arrest. The woman, in her statement, said that Imran took her to several mosques in Delhi and Ghaziabad. He kept her in various hotels during the period she was missing.
Police statement
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City), Rajesh Kumar, confirmed that Imran has been arrested and the woman recovered. He said, “The accused took the woman to several locations, including mosques in Delhi, and kept her in hotels.” However, the accused denies the charges of conversion. The accused was presented in the court and sent to jail.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
