Congress leader Rashid Alvi has backed former PM Manmohan Singh over his remarks advocating the ‘first right’ on resources to minorities, particularly Muslims.

“Former PM Manmohan Singh said people in the last line have first right to resources, and factually, Indian Muslims are in the last line,” Rashid Alvi said.

On Sunday (April 21), Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress party for embracing Rahul Gandhi’s ultra-leftist agenda of ‘wealth redistribution’. PM Modi stated that his election manifesto of the Congress party reflected Maoist ideology. During an election rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, PM Modi mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s promise to survey and share the country’s riches. 

Speaking about then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s speech in which he claimed that Muslims ought to be given the first right to the nation’s resources, PM Modi stated that if the Congress heads back to power, they will redistribute the nation’s wealth among Muslims, intruders, and those with multiple children.

Addressing an election rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara, PM Modi on Sunday said, “Earlier, when they (the Congress) were in power, they had said Muslims have the first right to the wealth of the nation. This means they will distribute this wealth to those who have more children, to infiltrators. Should your hard-earned money be given to infiltrators? Do you agree to this?”

“Congress’s manifesto says they will take stock of the gold mothers and daughters have, and will distribute that wealth. Manmohan Singh’s government had said Muslims have the first right to wealth. Brothers and sisters, this Urban Naxal thinking will not spare even the mangal sutras of my mothers and sisters,” he added. 

Former PM Manmohan Singh kicked up a storm when he said minorities, especially the Muslim minority, had the first right to the country’s resources. “We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources,” Singh had said.

Telangana: Bridge under construction for 8 years collapses due to bad weather, no casualties reported

A portion of an under-construction bridge across the Manair River in Telangana’s Peddapalli district collapsed on the intervening night of Monday (22nd April) and Tuesday (23rd April), allegedly owing to bad weather and strong winds. There were no casualties in the incident, which occurred amid heavy rainfall and strong winds in the area. The bridge was being built to connect the Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts.

“Luckily, a marriage party of 65 people on a bus passed by just one minute earlier and escaped being crushed by the concrete,” said Sirikonda Bakka Rao, sarpanch of Odedu village in Peddapalli district to NDTV. The incident came to the fore after some of the villagers alerted police about the incident on Tuesday.

In 2016, Telangana Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary and local MLA Putta Madhu inaugurated the one-kilometre-long bridge across the Manair river, which cost approximately Rs 49 crore.

The project was scheduled to be completed in a year and would shorten the distance between three towns – Manthani, Parakal, and Jammikunta, by around 50 kilometres. The bridge was intended to connect Garmillapallu in Tekumatla mandal, Bhupalpalli, to Odededu in Peddapalli.

According to locals, the contractor ceased working after a year or two because he was under pressure for commissions and the government failed to pay his dues. “The same contractor had built a bridge in Vemulawada that was washed away during heavy rain in 2021,” Rao added.

Meanwhile, locals use a temporary route under the bridge to commute between the two districts.

Nothing will stand in the way of Rwanda flights: UK PM Rishi Sunak, read why he is firm on deporting illegal migrants

On Tuesday (23rd April), UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak welcomed the passage of his government’s Safety of Rwanda Bill by the British Parliament. Sunak pledged that nothing would stand in the way of deporting illegal migrants to Rwanda. Notably, the UK’s House of Lords (upper House) passed the legislative bill late at night on Monday (22nd April). The legislation has faced two years of legal battles and was earlier ruled illegal by the UK Supreme Court in November last year. However, the recent bill overrides the Supreme Court ruling as well as any future ruling from the UK top court.   

In a statement issued by Downing Street, Rishi Sunak said, “The passing of this landmark legislation is not just a step forward but a fundamental change in the global equation on migration.” 

Sunak added, “We introduced the Rwanda Bill to deter vulnerable migrants from making perilous crossings and break the business model of the criminal gangs who exploit them. The passing of this legislation will allow us to do that and make it very clear that if you come here illegally, you will not be able to stay.” 

Rishi Sunak further stated that the UK government is now focused on getting flights off the ground. He emphasised, “I am clear that nothing will stand in our way of doing that and saving lives.”  

On its part, Rwanda said it was “pleased” to see the bill passed and was looking forward to “welcoming those relocated to Rwanda”. However, the UK’s principal opposition Labour Party, Human rights groups in Britain, as well as the European Union, have opposed the deportation bill with rights groups describing the legislation as inhumane and cruel.  

Content of the Rwanda Bill

Under the legislation titled Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill, migrants arriving illegally on UK shores would be deported to Kigali, the Capital of Rwanda. The legislation allows the government to put illegal migrants on one-way flights to the African nation. The claims of these illegal migrants will then be processed by the authorities in Rwanda. 

However, even if they were granted refugee status, they would be resettled in Rwanda, not Britain.

The Bill will reportedly get the Royal assent within a few weeks. It essentially says that Rwanda is a “safe” third country. According to the government’s fact-sheet, the Bill was introduced to respond “to the Supreme Court’s concerns and will allow Parliament to confirm the status of the Republic of Rwanda as a safe third country”.

While Rights group opposes deportation, the bill tries to overcome opposition/legal challenges

Despite the passage of the bill, deportation attempts would still encounter a flurry of further legal challenges and mounting pressure from rights groups making it tough to deport all the illegal immigrants back to Rwanda. Additionally, on its part, the Labour Party has vowed to scrap the law if it comes into power. The critics have also raised questions on the implementation and economic feasibility of these deportation bids.  

David Anderson is a barrister and member of the House of Lords who is not affiliated with any party and he opposed the law. He said, “You can’t make a country safe just by saying it’s safe. That is absolutely absurd.”

In a statement, UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, Gillian Triggs said, “UNHCR remains firmly opposed to arrangements that seek to transfer refugees and asylum-seekers to third countries in the absence of sufficient safeguards and standards. Such arrangements simply shift asylum responsibilities, evade international obligations, and are contrary to the letter and spirit of the Refugee Convention.” 

Furthermore, in November 2023, the British Supreme Court ruled that the small country of Rwanda was an unsafe place to send those arriving in small boats on the southern British coast and that the government’s plan would breach British and international law.

To overcome the legal challenges, the legislation now instructs judges and immigration officials to “conclusively treat the Republic of Rwanda as a safe country”. It also gives the government the power to disregard future rulings by international courts. Additionally, there are no provisions to amend it if conditions in Rwanda change. 

Another opposition is from the European Union body. As per reports, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) could move to block the deportation flights to Rwanda. Earlier, in 2022, ECHR had stopped the first plane from departing the UK for Rwanda. Its ruling also barred the UK from removing migrants through such a scheme until the completion of the legal battle against it in Britain.

Regarding ECHR’s opposition, Rishi Sunak ruled out any foreign court intervention. As per reports, this implied that the UK was ready to reconsider its membership of the ECHR if required.

Despite massive challenges and opposition, media reports hail this as a major political victory for the ruling Conservative party in general, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in particular, as he made a political vow to ‘Stop the boats‘ from ferrying illegal migrants into the United Kingdom.

As elections in the UK set to take place late this year, Conservative Party has been relying on its tough stance against the rising menace of illegal immigrants to woo voters. The party has been pushing this deportation legislation for years. The plan was first introduced in 2022, under then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson. 

In April 2022, Boris Johnson signed a deal with the Rwandan government to allow the UK to send some ‘asylum-seekers’ to Rwanda. He had hailed this move as one that would “save countless lives” from human trafficking, given the dangerous circumstances in which they attempt to enter the UK.

As per reports, virtually all the senior leadership of the Conservative party have made efforts over the years to pass this legislation. Priti Patel, who was then Britain’s Home Secretary — an office that oversees immigration and Britain’s asylum system — introduced the Nationality and Borders Bill in Parliament. Later, Suella Braverman introduced the Illegal Migration Bill. Now, the current Tory leader Sunak has managed to pass it through the UK parliament making it a huge win for him before the elections. 

Rishi Sunak insisted on Monday that the government would operate multiple charter flights every month, starting in 10 to 12 weeks. 

In a Downing Street press briefing on Monday, Sunak declared there were “no ifs, no buts” about using the Rwanda legislation “come what may” to ensure such migrants can be deterred once the message goes out that they would not be able to stay on in the UK.

Rishi Sunak said, “These flights are going to Rwanda. We are going to deliver this indispensable deterrent so that we finally break the business model of the criminal gangs and save lives.” 

His government asserted that it has addressed the Supreme Court’s concerns through a treaty with the Rwandans last December. 

Additionally, to register a policy win before elections, the UK government has reportedly paid its Rwandan counterpart millions of pounds for housing and integrating the migrants as part of the pilot scheme, which was to initially last for five years.

The UK government has reportedly paid £290 million to its Rwandan counterpart, even though the plan has yet to be implemented due to legal challenges and criticisms. According to The Guardian earlier this week, the UK government is set to pay an additional £50 million if the bill is passed.

Nonetheless, amid the political heat intensifying over the deportation bill, French media reported on Tuesday (23rd April) morning that five individuals have died while attempting to cross the English Channel toward the UK from an area near the town of Wimereux in France. The French coastguard stated that they were unable to determine the exact number of individuals involved but confirmed the presence of several “lifeless bodies.”

In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across Delhi, a shop owner in Jahangirpuri has been arrested for serving biryani on disposable plates that had pictures of Lord Ram on them. The act came to light on Sunday when local Hindu organisations noticed Lord Ram’s photo on disposable plates that were kept at the biryani shop. Subsequently, they confronted the vendor about the same. They also raised objections as after its use, the plates were discarded in trash cans, hurting the sentiments of the residents. 

While a chaotic situation erupted near the shop, the locals called the Police who arrived at the scene and recovered a packet of four plates featuring Lord Ram’s photo on them. They immediately took the accused into custody and further investigation is underway in this matter. 

Bundles of disposable plates having Lord Ram’s pictures on them can be seen in the videos of the incident that have gone viral on social media. 

As per the visuals, the plates featured the cover of a book titled ‘Ramayana Unravelled’ by Ami Ganatra. The incident prompted widespread condemnation and demand for action against the culprits. 

As per reports, the incident took place at a biryani shop in Jahangirpuri, Delhi on Sunday (21st April). The incident came to light after local residents and Bajrang dal members raised objections as the biryani vendor was using these disposable plates for allegedly serving Chicken biryani. They later complained to the Police.

Nonetheless, the police are investigating the motive behind the act whether the accused did it for cheap marketing purposes or deliberately intended to offend religious sentiments.

Earlier, several incidents had come to light where owners of eatery shops were arrested for hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community by selling adulterated food items. Recently, Yusuf, Naeem, and four others were arrested in Vadodara after a famous ‘Huseni Samosa’ was found to be selling beef-stuffed samosas.  

It is pertinent to recall that a similar incident was reported in  Gujarat last year. As OpIndia reported in May 2023, one Ismail Yusuf and another accused were booked by Surat Police for selling beef-stuffed samosas and for slaughtering cows. Yusuf ran a snack shop in Kosadi village of Mangrol panchayat and was selling beef stuffed samosas to unsuspecting consumers. Back then, the police stopped a suspicious auto rickshaw and searched it. Following the search, the police seized 2 Kg of beef samosas and arrested Ismail Yusuf.

On 20th April, a woman identified as Bulbul working at a beauty parlour in Rajasthan’s Churu district died in unusual circumstances.  The woman’s body was found hanging in the beauty parlour. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Arshad, Wahid, Muzaffar, and Amjad have been accused of abetting the victim to commit suicide. Several Hindu rights organisations have called a “Bandh” in Churu on 23rd April.

Reports say that the incident transpired at the Hotel Sun City in Churu wherein Bulbul Rakshak, a 24-year-old resident of Ward 27, had worked in a beauty parlour. Like every day, Bulbul departed home for work on Saturday, however, as she did not return in the evening, her family began searching for her. Finally, Bulbul’s lifeless body was found hanging inside the beauty parlour. Subsequently, the Police registered a case and sent the body for a post-mortem.

The deceased victim’s family members claim that when they attempted to enter the hotel in search of Bulbul, hotel operators Arshad, Wahid, and Muzaffar stopped them. However, the victim’s uncle pushed everyone aside as he entered the hotel where Bulbul’s body was hanging. The deceased’s uncle also alleges that when he saw Bulbul’s body, he noticed injuries on the neck and hands. The victim’s family has accused Arshad, Wahid, Amjad, and Muzaffar of causing Bulbul’s death.

The parlour in the hotel has been sealed. The deceased’s family also alleged that Bulbul smashed her phone two days before her death. The cause for breaking the phone has not yet been found. Bulbul’s suspicious demise soon became a topic of discussion across the city. Hindu organisations began protesting, describing the incident as ‘Love Jihad’. The ruckus persisted in the hotel, hospital, and mortuary, where Bulbul’s post-mortem was being performed.

The police calmed the outraged crowd and assured stern action against the perpetrators. However, the police’s assurance did not affect the protests. The Sarva Hindu Samaj has called for a Churu Bandh on the 23rd of April. People are seen demonstrating in the streets in videos from Churu. The protesters include youngsters, children, the elderly, and women.

The demonstrators have also questioned the administration. They alleged that the local police station was attempting to suppress the incident. The protesting locals have also appealed to the administrative officials not to make misleading claims.

‘This nation will be ours’: AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi passes contentious remarks over ‘infiltrators’ comment, says Muslims gave Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar to India

On 22nd April, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Indian Muslims ‘infiltrators’ (ghuspaithiye) in his recent speech. Owaisi went on to claim that India was, is and will always be the nation of those who gave the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid etc to India.

Speaking at a public rally in Telangana’s Hyderabad, Owaisi said: “Are we [Muslims] infiltrators and people with many children?… Do you know how many siblings Atal Bihari Vajpayee had… Muslims are the people having many children and Vajpayee and his siblings were 7 in number… Yogi Adityanath and his siblings are 7 in number… Amit Shah and his siblings are also 7 in number. Narendra Modi and his siblings are 6 in number… We are those who have given the Taj Mahal, Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Char Minar to this nation. We have decorated this nation. We are not infiltrators. We belong to this nation. This nation is ours and will be ours.”

Contrary to Akbaruddin Owaisi’s claim that PM Modi called Indian Muslims infiltrators, the prime minister during his rally in Rajasthan on 21st April had said that the Congress party under its ‘wealth redistribution’ promise would redistribute the nation’s wealth among Muslims, intruders and those who have multiple children. However, PM Modi did not call Indian Muslims ‘ghuspaithiye’ but illegal immigrants while saying that Congress will redistribute wealth to both these sections.

It is worth noting that as per history scholars and inscriptions, Qutub Minar was allegedly built on the ruins of 27 Hindu and Jain temples. The pillars of the compound that houses Qutub Minar bear testimony to the fact that the structure was constructed after the demolition of Hindu and Jain complexes. As per notable historian Sita Ram Goel, there are over 40,000 sites across India where places of worship of Indic faiths were demolished and mosques were built upon them.

Notably, this is not the first time that AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has made controversial remarks. Back in 2012, Akbaruddin Owaisi made an inflammatory speech against Hindus. In his speech, he was seen taking many jibes at Hindu Gods and Goddesses while making an open challenge to Hindus for their survival if the police were to be removed for 15 minutes.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday (22nd April) asked the West Bengal state administration to submit a report on the Murshidabad violence during Ram Navami and urged the Election Commission to postpone polls in Berhampur. The move follows a petition filed with the High Court.

A petition was filed requesting that the NIA investigate the violence that happened on Ram Navami in Murshidabad.

“If people cannot enjoy and celebrate in peace, any festival, even for 8 hours, we will recommend Election Commission of India not hold parliamentary elections in such constituencies. If despite model code of conduct being invoked, two sets of people are fighting with each other, they do not have any right to vote their representative,” Calcutta High Court said.

The subsequent hearing in this case is planned for April 26th. The decision by the court reportedly comes a day after the state police filed an FIR about the violence and claimed that there were around 2000 Hindus and 400 Muslims at the spot during the incident.

Communal violence and political violence have been a constant concern in the state of Bengal.

While the nation marked the celebrations of Ram Navami, an attack on a Ramanavami Shobha Yatra was reported from West Bengal’s Rejinagar in Murshidabad district. As reported, the procession that started from Shaktipur School came under attack after the miscreants started stone pelting which led to a tense situation in the region.

Notably, Murshidabad has emerged as a major place for crude bomb-making ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Police have recovered such bombs in several places in the area. The tensions were high after TMC Supremo and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee alleged that there could be rioting on 17th April in the state when Hindus were slated to mark celebrations of Ram Navami. Notably, the incidents of violence against Ram Navami processions have reportedly come down this year.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are underway, the Congress trolls on social media are hyperactively spreading fake news and disinformation in the forlorn hope of tipping the scales in favour of their party, whose leaders appear resigned to the fact that Modi’s return to power is all but inevitable. 

In an attempt to reverse the fortunes of the Congress party, its online supporters and trolls have started claiming that Modi granted reservations to Muslim castes during his tenure as Gujarat CM. 

The claims have spawned on social media after PM Modi asserted that Congress tried to grant reservation to Muslims at the expense of SC/ST castes. Addressing the electorate in Rajasthan’s Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency, slated to cast their votes on April 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on Tuesday that in 2004, the Congress attempted to allocate reservations to Muslims in Andhra Pradesh at the expense of diminishing SC/ST reservations, displaying what he described as a disregard for the Constitution.

“The reality is that during the Congress regime, they sought to carve out a separate reservation for their favoured voting bloc by encroaching upon the reservations meant for Dalits and backward classes. This action, he emphasised, stands in stark contradiction to the principles outlined in the Constitution,” PM Modi said. 

No sooner did Modi accuse Congress of minority appeasement by granting reservations to Muslims by encroaching upon quota meant for SC/ST castes than a raft of Congress trolls online began sharing an incomplete video to insinuate that Modi accorded reservation to Muslim castes during his tenure as the Gujarat CM. 

Congress trolls share an incomplete video of Modi to make misleading claims: Modi doesn’t claim to extend reservations to Muslim castes in the state list

Firstly, in the video, Modi isn’t making such assertions; rather, he mentions that during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, numerous Muslim castes benefited from reservations under the OBC quota. However, he notes that the media often overlooks such instances. Nowhere does Modi claim that his administration included any Muslim caste in the state’s OBC list.

It is indeed a fact that numerous “Muslim castes” have been receiving reservations under OBC quotas across various states for nearly four decades. Muslim castes were also granted reservations in the central OBC quota, with the UPA government issuing notifications to this effect. This practice predates Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Curiously, upon examining the castes enumerated in Gujarat’s state OBC list, it becomes apparent that all the Muslim castes that were included in the list were before Narendra Modi assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Subsequently, during Modi’s tenure as CM, 14 castes and some sects were appended to the list, none of which pertained to Muslims.

Notifications issued by successive Gujarat govts to extend reservations to various caste groups

Modi took the oath of Gujarat CM on 7 October 2001 and was the chief minister of the state till 2014. As per the List of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes declared by Gujarat State, there were 7 instances when the state government intervened to add castes to the existing list.

These include Kamli, Tamboli, Garai, Gurav, Kalal (Hindu), Sanghar (Hindu), Nagarchi, Kayasth, Gandharv (Hindu), Darji, Bhandari, Kathi Rajgir and Ahir Gor, Kuruhin Shetty, and Hajari (Rajput). 

Castes included in reservations under Modi as Gujarat CM

Kalal Muslims were already included in caste reservations; Kalal Hindus were included in reservations under Modi as Gujarat’s CM

Indeed, a noteworthy instance arises with the Kalal caste of Gujarat. While both Hindus and Muslims are recognised as belonging to this caste, only Muslim Kalals were granted reservation and incorporated into the OBC list by the Gujarat government. It wasn’t until 2005, under the Modi administration, that Hindu Kalals were eventually included in the list.

Interestingly, there are 31 Muslim castes granted reservations by the Gujarat government. Out of 31, 29 Muslim castes were granted reservations under the Congress-led governments in the state. There were two instances when Muslim castes were included in the ambit of reservations under BJP-led governments, one in December 1995 and the other one in September 1996, but Modi was not at the helm of the government then.

On Tuesday (23rd April), Aam Aadi Party leader Sanjay Singh who was recently released from jail in the liquor policy case, claimed that the Prime Minister and the lieutenant governor have been constantly keeping watch on the activities of Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar jail. He also claimed that Kejriwal who is a diabetic patient had finally been administered a dose of insulin 23 days after his arrest.

Singh, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday stated that a conspiracy was being framed by the central agencies and the PM to kill jailed CM Arvind Kejriwal. “Arvind Kejriwal has got the insulin that we were demanding…Why wasn’t he given insulin for the past 23 days? We were asked why we thought it was a conspiracy to kill Arvind Kejriwal?… Delhi’s Tihar Jail has become a torture cell for Arvind Kejriwal…24 hours he is kept under the surveillance of PMO and LG. PM Modi and his office are constantly watching Kejriwal through the CCTV links,” Singh said.

The Tihar officials meanwhile confirmed the news of insulin saying, “Yesterday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was administered low-dose insulin at Tihar Jail. His sugar level was 217 yesterday. AIIMS team had said that he could be administered low-dose insulin when the level crosses 200.”

However, the Aam Aadmi Party claimed that the sugar levels of Kejriwal had reached 320. In a post on X, AAP said, “CM Kejriwal’s sugar level had reached 320. This has been possible only due to the blessings of Lord Hanuman and the struggle of the people of Delhi. We have succeeded in delivering insulin to our Chief Minister.”

Earlier on Monday, Kejriwal accused the Tihar jail administration of issuing a fake and misleading statement regarding his diabetic health under political pressure, claiming he has been requesting insulin every day.

At the same time, a local court had directed AIIMS to form a medical board to evaluate Kejriwal and establish whether he needs insulin to control his blood sugar levels. The court further found that the AAP convener was eating home-cooked food, which differed from the diet plan prescribed by his doctor.

“The court finds it perplexing why the applicant’s family has been offering him various items contrary to his medically advised diet, such as mangoes, sweets, and aloo puri,” remarked the court. Kejriwal was reported to have been eating mangoes, sweets and sugar added tea in Tihar jail, despite his diabetes concerns.

The episode sparked up after the jailed chief minister claimed that he was not being given insulin in jail, resulting in an “alarming” spike in his blood sugar levels. The Court meanwhile also noted that Kejriwal never made any demands for insulin.

CM Arvind Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a liquor policy scam. He was arrested by the ED on March 21. Meanwhile, on May 15, the Delhi High Court will hear Kejriwal’s plea challenging the ED summons issued to him.

On Tuesday (23rd April), Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party over its Wealth redistribution promise, attack on Hindus in Congress-ruled states, and ‘Muslim appeasement’ politics. PM Modi said that two days ago he exposed the truth of the grand old party which has them all agitated and angry (Congress ko Mirchi lagi). 

Addressing a rally in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the indecent of a mob attack in Karnataka where a Hindu shopkeeper, Mukesh was assaulted for playing Hanuman Chalisa in his shop. He stressed that under Congress rule, even listening to Hanuman Chalisa becomes a crime and it becomes difficult to follow one’s faith. 

He said, “While talking to you today on Hanuman Jayanti, I remember a picture. A few days ago, in Congress-ruled Karnataka, a shopkeeper was brutally beaten up only because he was listening to Hanuman Chalisa while sitting in his shop..”

He added, “In Congress rule, even listening to Hanuman Chalisa becomes a crime. Rajasthan has been its sufferer…For the first time on Ram Navami this time, Shobha Yatra procession was taken out in Rajasthan. In a state like Rajasthan where people chant Ram-Ram, Congress banned Ram Navami.” 

PM Modi slammed the Congress party over the Wealth redistribution promise asking why they want to hide their own policy. He added that Congress ko mirchi lagi (Congress got rattled and is in a panic) after he exposed the truth of its policy. Without taking his name, PM Modi criticised Rahul Gandhi’s ‘X-ray of wealth’ remark stating the opposition would even survey the savings of Indian women which they keep in utensils or safe places for dire situations.  

The Prime Minister said, “The day before yesterday in Rajasthan I put forth some truth in front of the country and the entire Congress and INDI alliance went into a panic. I put forth the truth that Congress is plotting to snatch your property and distribute it to their special people…When I exposed their politics, they got so angry that they started abusing Modi…I want to know from Congress why are they so afraid of the truth? Why do they hide their policy so much, when you yourself made the policy then why are you afraid to accept it now…If you have the courage then accept it, we are ready to face you…”

Further in his rally, PM Modi issued an appeal for unity asserting that whenever we divided, enemies of the country took advantage.

Launching a scathing attack on Congress for appeasement politics, PM Modi cornered the grand old party for advocating ‘reservation for Muslims on religious grounds’ adding that it is unconstitutional. He asserted that in the past it tried to carry out a pilot project in Andra Pradesh to give reservations to Muslim community on religious grounds.   

He emphasised, “The truth is that when the Congress was in power, they wanted to give separate reservation to their special vote bank by breaking into the reservation of Dalits and backward classes. Whereas the Constitution is completely against this…”

Highlighting the past incident, PM Modi added, “…Congress party has toyed with the Constitution of the country. When the Constitution was drafted, reservation based on religion was opposed, so that SC, ST, and OBC castes could get protection. Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh in his speech had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s resources. This was Manmohan Singh’s statement. Congress’s thinking has always been of appeasement and vote bank politics.” 

He pointed out that as soon as the Congress government came to power at the Centre in 2004, its first task was to try to provide reservation to Muslims by reducing SC/ST reservations in Andhra Pradesh. This was a pilot project, which Congress wanted to try in the entire country. Between 2004 and 2010, Congress tried four times to implement Muslim reservations in Andhra Pradesh. However, due to legal hurdles and awareness of the Supreme Court, they could not fulfil his plans. 

“In 2011, Congress tried to implement it across the country. They snatched the rights given to SC/ST and OBC and gave them to others for vote bank politics. Congress made all these efforts knowing that all this was against the basic spirit of the Constitution. But Congress did not care about the Constitution, ” the Prime Minister said.
