Russian energy giant Gazprom halts supplies to Bulgaria and Poland, reports say EU trying to increase gas purchase in Roubles to help them

Russian energy giant Gazprom has reportedly halted gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria after they failed to make their payments in Rubles. After a wide array of Western sanctions against Ukraine, Russia’s demand for gas payments in Roubles had come as a retaliation.

Gazprom has issued a statement declaring suspension of gas supplies to Bulgarian company Bulgargaz and Polish company PGNiG (PGN.WA). However, both Poland and Bulgaria have called the action a breach of contract by Gazprom, the world’s biggest natural gas company.

As per reports, Gazprom in its statement has said, “Gazprom Export has notified Bulgargaz and PGNiG of the suspension of gas supplies from April 27 until the payments are made according to the procedure outlined in the Decree.” As reported by Russian news agency TASS, the companies were supposed to make their payments for gas supplied in April in Rubles as notified by Russian President Putin’s orders on March 31, 2022.

The company that provides Europe 40% of its total gas needs, has warned that the Yamal-Europe pipeline that passes through both of these countries and further supplies gas to Germany, Hungary and Serbia, would be shut down if gas was siphoned off illegally. “In case of unauthorized offtake of Russian gas from the volumes intended for transit into third countries, the transited supplies will be reduced by the volume that was off taken,” the company statement said.

Following the news from Russia, the price of gas increased by as far as 21% in Europe, about $1,370 per 1,000 cubic meters at a certain time. The European market continues to be concerned over the supply of natural gas after Russia’s military action in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions by EU and NATO nations.

President Vladimir Putin has been firm about the payment for energy in Roubles. The action on Bulgarian and Polish companies is a result of their failure to make the payments in Rubles on time. The decision has been lauded by Kremlin with Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament saying, “The same should be done with regard to other countries that are unfriendly to us.”

EU trying to find a way to keep gas flowing

Media reports have now suggested that the European Union is already trying to increase its gas purchases in Rubles to help Poland and Bulgaria. Russian media agency TASS has reported that the European Union would be temporarily increasing its gas purchases from Russia through countries which are ready to do their payments in Russia Rubbles to compensate for the demand of Poland and Bulgaria.

According to reports, at least ten European companies buying Russian natural gas have already opened accounts at Gazprombank to make their payments in Rubles. Bloomberg has reported that four European companies have already made their payments in Rubles, as required by the Russian Federation. The opening of bank accounts in the state-controlled Gazprombank by the companies stands as a tricky task in itself as the activity violates sanctions against Russia.

Russia supplies Natural gas to 23 European countries. With the halting of natural gas to Bulgarian and Polish companies, The EU now looks forward to helping the countries bu buying natural grass from other countries. However, doing so involves opening accounts in Russian banks and Euro-Ruble transfers which violates their self-imposed sanctions against Russia.

The Russian thrust on Europe however has not motivated Europe to take over the negotiating terms. Poland alongside Bulgaria has decided not to hold talks to renew its Gazprom deal for the next year. Poland’s contract with Gazprom is for 10.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year, covering about 50% of its demand. Bulgaria too relies on Russia for about 90% of its gas imports.

Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President who was in India to preside over the inauguration of the Raisina Dialogue, said that Russia’s ‘blackmail’ is unjustified and unacceptable and the EU would seek alternative supplies to fulfil its needs. Last month, the EU struck a deal with the US for importing Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) to meet the urgent energy demands.

Netizens slam Arvind Kejriwal for his casual approach during PM’s meeting on Covid-19, BJP calls him ‘mannerless’

On April 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the chief ministers of the states to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country. He also urged the CMs of the non-BJP states to consider reducing state tax on the fuel so that the price matches the BJP ruling states. During the meeting, the Chief Minister of Delhi was visibly inattentive, and his casual approach drew ire. Netizens posted parts of the meeting on social media platforms and criticized CM Kejriwal.

BJP called the Delhi CM ‘mannerless’ for his behaviour in the online meeting. “Mannerless CM of Delhi!” Delhi BJP tweeted. They posted a small clip from the meeting, where Arvind Kejriwal was seen resting his head on his hand, and then putting both his hands behind his head and leaning back in his chair.

The Delhi CM’s mannerisms during the meeting are deemed inappropriate for formal meetings, and highly unsuitable for a meeting with the Prime Minister. It is noteworthy that he yawned at least six times during the meeting.

Apart from BJP Delhi, Netizens also slammed Arvind Kejriwal for his behaviour. Twitter user Ankur Singh said, “Check how Kejriwal is sitting during an important meeting with Prime Minister.” In the video shared by him, CM Kejriwal was seen sitting casually with his arms above his head.

Twitter user Naweed shared a screenshot from the video and questioned if CM Kejriwal was attending the wedding of his father or a meeting with the PM.

Netizen Alok Bhatt said, “Just note the mannerisms of this down market politician Arvind Kejriwal – matlab class ismein kabhi nahi aayegi (That means he will never learn manners).”

Using hashtag #MannerlessCM, BJP leader Tajinder Bagga urged everyone to teach CM Kejriwal some manners.

BJP Spokesperson Naveen Kumar Jindal said, “See how Kejriwal was sitting during the meeting with the Prime Minister of India. God knows what kind of sacraments he got that he neither knows how to talk nor knows how to behave. Shameless person.”

RSS activist Hemir Desai said, “Previously also Arvind Kejriwal disrespected PM of INDIA and today also the way he is sitting in front of PM being CM shows arrogance.”

PM discussed the Covid-19 situation

During the meeting, PM discussed how India managed Covid-19 in previous waves. He said during the last wave, the states managed the situation perfectly, and if God forbids a similar situation to happen in the future, everyone needs to be prepared. He talked about how India has achieved unimaginable milestones in its vaccine drive. He also urged the states to keep an eye on the availability of medical oxygen and medicines to ensure the Covid-19 wave can be tackled with full preparation.

PM urged Non-BJP states to reduce tax on fuel

PM also discussed how BJP ruled states had reduced tax on fuel after PM had announced tax cut close to Diwali last year. He said some of the non-BJP states did not reduce the tax, and currently, there was a price difference of around Rs 10 between BJP ruled and non-BJP states. He urged states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Jharkhand to consider reducing fuel prices.

PM Modi said he was not criticizing but only discussing the situation with the Chief Ministers.

Kejriwal had broke protocol during similar meeting with PM last year

This is not the first time the Delhi CM was caught not taking the meeting with PM seriously. Last year, he had to apologise for breaking protocol during a similar video conference with PM Modi, which was not broadcast to the public. Kejriwal had gone live during the closed-door meeting between Prime Minister Modi and the Chief Ministers of states with high Covid cases in April last year.

During his speech during the meeting, which he had broadcast live on social media without informing the PM, Arvind Kejriwal had spread lies, and proposed measured for oxygen supply which were already implemented by the central govt. When PM Modi was informed about the live address, he had slammed the Kejriwal for breaking protocol during the video conference. The PM had told him, “You have broken a very important protocol, such private conversation are never televised. It is not proper, we should always observe decorum.”

Kejriwal had apologised for his behaviour after that.

Ajay Devgn hits out on Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep, says Hindi was and will always be our national language

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn today slammed Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep over his controversial statement on Hindi and KGF 2. Devgn took to Twitter and said that if as per him Hindi is not our national language then why are his films dubbed in Hindi from the regional language and released.

He said that Hindi is our mother tongue and national language and will always remain so.

The tweet by Devgn came days after the Vikrant Rona actor stirred up controversy over KGF 2 film being referred to as ‘pan India film’. After the unprecedented success of the Kannada-language film which was dubbed in various other languages and released, the Kannada superstar in a viral video said the film was made in Kannada and Hindi is no longer a national language. He also attacked mainstream Bollywood and said that the Hindi film industry is struggling today to find success by dubbing Telugu and Tamil films but it is not happening. “Today we (Kannada film industry) are making films that are going everywhere,” he said.

Responding to Devgn’s tweet, Kiccha Sudeep took to Twitter that the Bollywood actor seems to have misunderstood what he was saying.

He said that the context in which he said the line of Hindi not being national language was different than how it seems to have reached him and added that he would talk more on it when they meet in person. He also added that he did not intend to provoke anyone or start any debate.

As per reports, in 2019, during the promotion of his film Pailwaan, when he was questioned about the dubbing of the film in Hindi, he had said how Hindi is the national language. “Everything started from here, hence it always holds more weightage. According to me, there is larger number of people who speak Hindi compared to other languages. Hence, we are giving more preference to the Hindi version,” he had said back then.

Netflix planning a major overhaul in Indian content after losing subscriptions, may bring in more ‘commercial’ genres: Report

Considering its slow growth in the Indian market, the OTT platform Netflix has decided to revamp the entire content of the India web series and movies scheduled to be released in the near future. A report in Bollywood Life states that the steaming giant may be looking at a massive content overhaul, bringing in a more commercial approach.

According to the exclusive report in Bollywood Life, Netflix India has been struggling to please the Indian market and is worried about its declining number of subscriptions from the country. The company has hardly seen profits since its inception in India. Netflix India has decided to study the taste of the Indian audiences and expand the market accordingly in the future. It has also decided to do away with its serious, dark content and try new ideas with a more commercial approach for the Indian viewers.

The report stated that while Netflix may no scrap the projects that are already under different stages of development, they may space out their release, bringing in newer content to give their platform a mix of different genres targeted at a wider audience reach.

The company plans to take drastic steps to fix the problem with the upcoming season of the web series named ‘Delhi Crime’. Delhi Crime was an award-winning series based on the real incidents of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case that took place in the neighbourhood of Munirka, in South Delhi. While the first season of the web series was a massive hit, Netflix India is reportedly making some changes in the second season.

In a major step recently, the company partnered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and launched the first set of short video series named ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniya’ bringing out inspiring stories of seven Indian women as a part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Netflix in partnership with the Ministry also plans to organize training workshops and masterclasses to encourage filmmakers in India to create inspiring content on various topics under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

It is important to note that on January 20, Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings had expressed his ‘frustration’ during an investor call over the slow growth of the video streaming company in the Indian market. “In our experience in Brazil, it was brutal for the first couple of years. We thought we’d never break even. I know we’ve got this great business. The great news is that in every single other major market, we’ve got the flywheel spinning. The thing that frustrates us is why haven’t we been more successful in India”, he had said.

Also, in December last year, the OTT platform had slashed the subscription prices of Netflix in India with a view to expand the market. It had also started its special operation to learn more about the Indian consumers’ tastes and had decided to include similar content on the platform.

Update: An earlier version of the report stated that Netflix India may drop up to 90% of its upcoming content because of a massive loss in subscriptions. The report has been updated after the source Bollywood Life changed its story.

Myanmar: Aung San Suu Kyi convicted in corruption case, sentenced to five years imprisonment

A Myanmar Junta court has sentenced former state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi to 5 years of imprisonment in a corruption case on Wednesday 27th April 2022. She was accused of accepting 11.4 kilograms of gold and a total cash payment of $600,000 from former Yangon Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein.

A special court in the military-built capital Naypyidaw handed down its verdict and sentence on Wednesday. A spokesperson of the military government Zaw Min Tun told the news agency AFP, “Regarding taking gold and dollars from U Phyo Min Thein, the court sentenced her to five years imprisonment. She will be under house arrest. I do not know whether she asked for an appeal. They are working according to the legal way. As far as I know, she’s in good health.”

Aung San Suu Kyi is known as the face of Myanmar’s democratic hopes for more than 30 years. She was arrested by the military in February 2021 following the military coup. The Junta had brought allegations of election fraud against Suu Kyi. 76-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel peace prize winner. The military Junta had brought several charges against her.

Her party is also accused of writing letters to international organizations to pressurize them not to recognize the military government in Myanmar. She is sentenced in many cases and there are at least 10 more corruption cases pending against her, each with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

Earlier in January 2022, she was sentenced to four years in prison for illegally importing and possessing walkie-talkies and violating CORONA restrictions. It is notable that, the trial in an election fraud case against the ousted Myanmar leader began on 14th February 2022. In Myanmar, more than 1500 civilians have been killed for opposing the dictatorship.

Uttar Pradesh: CCTV footage catches Lucknow man Majid raping a cow, arrested after locals nabbed him

On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a man named Majid for allegedly sexually assaulting a cow in the Sarojininagar area of Uttar Pradesh. The incident was reported on April 23 when the accused fled from the spot after having unnatural sex with the cow.

The incident came to light on Tuesday after one of the neighbours while reviewing the CCTV footage spotted a man holding the cow in an objectionable position. Analysing the footage, the locals identified the man as Majid. The neighbor then informed Jitendra Yadav, the owner of the cow, who lodged a police complaint against the accused.

Yadav in the complaint mentioned that Majid was seen in the CCTV footage having sex with his cow on Saturday. The villagers also were informed about the incident. They began searching for the accused on their own. Station House Officer, Sarojni Nagar, Lucknow Santosh Kumar Arya said that the villagers were furious and caught him from Daroga Khera in Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar.

It is important to note that this is not the first time when a man has been arrested for sexually assaulting an animal. Earlier on March 27, a 32-year-old man named Alam Ansari was arrested for raping a female calf in Pipalkoti village in the Chamoli district of Uttarkhand.

Also, in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, the Police had arrested Zubair and Chuna for raping a cow and filming the act. The video of the incident had gone viral over social media where four individuals were seen performing unnatural sex with a cow. The Police are searching for the other two accused.

In the current case, SHO Sarojni Nagar, Lucknow, Snatosh Kumar Arya confirmed that the incident was first spotted by the neighbor who saw Majid in an objectionable position with the cow. He later informed Yadav, the owner of the cow about the incident. The custody of the accused has been given to the Uttar Pradesh Police who have booked him under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Islamofascists and ‘liberals’ do not differentiate between Hinduism and Hindutva, but they do so only to confuse ordinary Hindus

Earlier this week, MSNBC news host Mehdi Hasan went on a vitriolic rant against PM Modi, Hindus and Hindutva, painting a grim picture about India and stoking fear psychosis about an imminent genocide of Muslims and Christians under an assertive Hindu nationalist government at the Centre.

Mehdi was, of course, playing to the gallery, reinforcing the meticulously concocted narrative by the Left to portray the Modi government as a regime pathologically antithetical to the minorities, especially Muslims and Christians, while being unabashedly pandering to the Hindu majority. Ever since PM Modi, the Left’s bete noire, was elected to power at the Centre, the leftists have resorted to McCarthyism to level false allegations against his government and project them as an anti-Muslim regime.

Mehdi Hasan’s diatribe against PM Modi, Hindus, and Hindutva

In the video, Hasan starts by talking about ‘right-wing’ regimes like that of Russia. He says that Putin has ties to far-right groups in Russia and beyond. Interestingly, while Hasan claims that Russian mercenaries are far-right groups (white supremacists), he fails to mention that the Azov battalion in Ukraine is proven Nazis. Zelenskyy himself admitted that they were. Then he insidiously proceeds to draw a parallel between the authoritarian regime in Russia under Putin and the democratic government in India under PM Modi.

Hasan then talks about how India’s Prime Minister is hankering after re-creating the “lost Hindu Kingdom” one likes to call “Hindu Rashtra” and is “far-right” and “supremacist”. What Hasan tries to do here is, equate Hindu nationalism with one of the menaces afflicting the West—White Supremacism—and convey that India is suffering from the scourge of Hindu nationalists. He conveniently omits to mention that Hindus are hated just as much as Muslims by White Supremacists.

In the video, Hasan talks about how Muslims and Christians are “literally” on the verge of genocide. This is an oft-repeated hyperbole that Modi detractors routinely resort to in order to reinforce their narrative against Hindus and Hindutva and characterise the Centre as inimical to Muslims and Christians. Here again, Mehdi expediently papers over the number of instances when Hindu religious processions have come under attack from Islamists. Recently, a mob of Islamists attacked the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. Before that, a Ram Navami procession came under attack from Islamists in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone. Hindu religious processions in other states across the country also faced similar attacks.

But Mehdi fails to mention these instances in his tirade against PM Modi and Hindus, lest it would undermine his propaganda. Instead, he goes on to cite the person that the Leftists usually when their arguments are tenuous: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He reminds people that Gandhi was murdered by a Hindu extremist—Godse. Mehdi’s aim here was to highlight how Hindu nationalism has bred ‘extremists’, one of whom was responsible for the assassination of Gandhi.

Again, Mehdi fails to provide background about the incident and declares Godse as a Hindu extremist. When Godse murdered Gandhi, one has to remember that India was going through a churn that the world had not seen. A nation had been torn into two by Ummah enthusiasts, much like Hasan himself. Divided on the basis of religion, elements like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi watched over as Hindus were butchered in thousands and lakhs. Godse was a political assassin who murdered Gandhi because he could no longer stand smelling the blood of his own brethren. Yes, Godse committed a terrible crime but he was not an extremist or Hindu terrorist who killed Gandhi solely because his religion ordained him to do so.

Moving on, Hasan then shifts his focus to the organisation that is intrinsically Hindu in nature and carries out social work without exhibiting any kind of religious discrimination. He claims that RSS founder, Gowalkar, praised Hitler and the organisation shares its ideology with the Third Reich. In his profuse writings, letters, articles, statements and interviews, there doesn’t seem to be a single sentence which declares Gowalkar’s admiration for Hitler. Yet, the liberals around the world continue to peddle the lie ad nauseam to malign the world’s biggest mass organisation.

The Left’s attempt to sow confusion among Hindus by creating an artificial distinction between Hinduism and Hindutva

The Islamofascists and ‘liberals’ appear to be working on the principle of vilifying every individual, regime or organisation that is unabashedly assertive of their Hindu identity. But doing so explicitly runs the risk of alienating the entire Hindu community. To avoid this predicament, they tried to differentiate between Hinduism and Hindutva, which is nothing but a distinction without a difference, a clever ploy to confuse ordinary Hindus into believing that the attack is not directed at them but towards the adherents of Hindutva.

Because of this semantical jugglery, ordinary Hindus come to believe that the Left’s outrage is against Hindutva and not against Hinduism. But they fail to discern that the two are one and the same and the distinction is an artificial creation that the ‘liberals’ and Islamists have presided over for the express purpose of undermining the consolidation of Hindus. It also serves another motive. It acts as a ‘distraction’ to help ‘liberals’ in shielding Islamists intoxicated with supremacist beliefs and pathological hatred toward idol-worshippers.

For years now, the leftists and their allies in the West have used this trope of Hinduism and Hindutva being two distinct entities to peddle their pernicious narrative against Hindus. Whether it is the Indian politicians such as Rahul Gandhi and his minions in the media or the anti-Hindu ideologues and organisations in the West, they have all partaken in this grand exercise of perpetuating the notion that Hinduism and Hindutva are two distinct ideologies.

Earlier last year, the conference ‘Dismantling the Global Hindutva‘ laid bare how there existed no difference between Hindutva and Hinduism for the ‘liberals’ and Islamofascists. The conference that claimed to “deconstruct” Hindutva ended up undermining Hinduism and Hindus by providing its platform to Hindumisic elements who felt no qualms in furthering their Hinduphobic beliefs and deriding concerns raised by Hindus.

Even as Hindus continued to suffer violence and persecution, whether it was the anti-Hindu Delhi riots that took place in 2020 or the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their home state, some nefarious anti-Hindu ideologues patronised by the ‘Dismantling the Global Hindutva’ insisted that Hinduphobia was an imaginary construct, created to fend off the criticism of casteism, Islamophobia, sexism, anti-Semitism, and other ideologies.

Shielding Islamists and preventing Hindu consolidation: Motivations that fuel the leftist trope of Hinduism and Hindutva being separate entities

This deliberate attempt to sow confusion in the minds of Hindus about Hindutva and Hinduism being two disparate ideologies is also an attempt to prevent attention from being diverted toward the atrocities committed by Islamists against Hindus. The Hindus of today are conscious of the historical wrongs committed against them and the consequent whitewashing exercise undertaken by the apologists of Islamists which continues to this day.

Hindus have endured multiple genocides in the last several centuries. The Islamist marauders from central Asia who raided temples and conquered vast tracts of Northern India often indulged in committing mass slaughter of Hindus. Hindus were given two options—to accept Islam or die a torturous death. Credible historical accounts say Hindus, to the tunes of millions, were slaughtered by various Muslim rulers who invaded and ruled India. Not only were Hindus tortured, raped, and killed, but they were also humiliated as the Islamist invaders attacked their temples and destroyed their revered idols.

Even in independent India, thousands of Hindus have been victims of hate crimes. For instance, lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir were forced to flee their homes after Islamists ran a concerted campaign to evict the Hindus from the Valley. More than 500 Kashmiri Pandits, who either refused to leave their ancestral homes or simply could not do so, were killed by the Islamists because they were Hindus.

In February 2020, the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act reached a crescendo when Islamist mobs ran amok, creating havoc in the National Capital. Hindus were targeted, attacked and killed by the bloodthirsty Islamist mobs, most notably the brutal murder of IB sleuth Ankit Sharma, who was allegedly hacked to death by a Muslim mob. There were countless other Hindus who perished in the riots unleashed by the Islamists in Delhi.

More recently, Islamists in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone, and several other places in the country attacked Hindu religious processions on the account that they were “provocative” in nature. When the respective state government initiated the demolition of illegal properties of rioters, their allies in the civil society billed the action as politically motivated, with the aim to subjugate the Muslim minorities, even though Hindus too lost their establishments in the anti-encroachment drive. A certain section of ‘liberals’ went on to demonise the Hindus as ‘provocateurs’ responsible for inciting the Muslims into rioting when the procession was traversing through what they called ‘Muslim areas‘.

However, the ‘liberals’ and Islamofascists like Mehdi Hasan continue to whitewash the Islamists and perversely portray them as victims. They not only sweep under the rug the historical and the ongoing persecution of Hindus but also resort to making spurious distinctions between Hinduism and Hindutva so that Hindus could be deluded into believing that the danger facing the country is not from the creeping Islamism that threatens to upend the country’s secular fabric but from the Hindu consciousness that has risen to counter it.

As BJP ruled states reduce VAT on fuel, PM Modi asks non-BJP states to follow suit even as they refuse, calling it a ‘political gimmick’

On Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi was addressing a Chief Ministers’ meeting to discuss the prevalent Covid-19 situation in the country. However, in his message that was televised live, the PM could be seen requesting some states to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel in order to give benefits to people.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the Central government had reduced the excise duty on fuel prices last year. In November, The Government of India announced that the excise duty on petrol will be reduced by Rs 5, and the excise duty on diesel will be cut by Rs 10 from November 4, 2021, on the eve of Diwali. At the same time, it also urged the state governments to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s decision, some BJP-ruled states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Goa, Assam, Karnataka and others followed suit after the Central government’s decision. This led to a collective dip in the price of petrol up to Rs 12 in these states. Alleging that this is a political gimmick ahead of assembly elections, the opposition ruled states refused to cut down the VAT upon fuels exacted by them, even declining the aspiration of the masses.

The Prime Minister now has again urged the states of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel in the recently held meeting. He said, “I request the states to reduce the taxes and transfer the benefit to the people. Some of the states did the same upon the request of the Indian Government. However, in some states, people have not benefited from this because of the state governments’ decisions.”

He added, “Because of this, the petrol prices in some states are way higher than in others. This is not only an injustice to the people living in these states but it also affects the neighbouring states. I agree that those states which give up on the taxes have to bear the loss in revenue collection.” He gave an example of Karanataka and Gujarat saying, “Had the state of Karnataka not reduce the taxes on fuels, it would have collected Rs 5000 crore. If Gujarat had not done the same, it would have collected Rs. 3,500 to 4000 crore more.” He hinted at Maharashtra without taking the state’s name saying that the neighbouring state of Gujarat and Karnataka, in the meanwhile, collected an additional revenue of Rs 3.5 to 5.5 thousand crores without giving any benefits to the people.

“I am not pointing figures at anyone. I only request to think in the interests of your people,” PM Modi noted. “The states of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu have not reduced the taxes since November. I do not want to go into how much revenue these states earned. My only request is you should think in the interest of the nation,” PM Modi added.

BJP-ruled states selling petrol at lower prices

On April 4 recently, a 40 paisa hike in the petrol and diesel prices was announced owing to the crude oil price rise in the international market. However, the fuel price difference between BJP-ruled states and non-BJP ruled states, stands at least Rs 10, as of now. While until the first week of April, Gujarat and Haryana had consistently kept petrol under Rs 105, the non-BJP states are selling petrol at over Rs 110. It was also found that, non-BJP ruled states have a higher price for both petrol and diesel compared to the BJP-ruled ones.

Rahul Gandhi gone abroad again, remains ‘unreachable’ as deal with Prashant Kishor fails: Reports

Hours after poll strategist Prashant Kishor rejected Congress’ offer to join the party, it has come to light that Rahul Gandhi has been untraceable ever since he left India for his foreign visit. On Tuesday (April 26), NDTV reported that the Congress scion has been missing for over 10 days.

At about 1 minute 26 seconds into the video, Nidhi Razdan had remarked, “It also comes at a time when Rahul Gandhi is MIA (missing in action). He is in abroad now for the last 10-12 days and is unreachable from what we hear.”

“Priyanka Gandhi was enthusiastic about PK’s entry. Sonia Gandhi, though, had to take the final decision. Even though she was believed to be enthusiastic about him earlier, she ended up cutting him down to size.”

India Today reported that Rahul Gandhi had left for a foreign destination about a week ago while leaving the Congress party in a state of political turmoil. Besides Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi had also left for abroad.

“Sources say the push for the PK promise was coming from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. They say she was trying to convince her brother and Congressmen to press the trial button. This is where the second and the latest signal comes in. Sources in the Congress say that even Priyanka Gandhi left India’s territorial boundaries during the last 24 hours,” the report added.

Although Rahul Gandhi has remained ‘untraceable’, as per NDTV, this has not stopped the Congress scion from posting misleading tweets about India turning into a ‘hate factory’. In his latest tweet on Wednesday (April 27), he had alleged that the exit of 7 global brands from India is due to the rise of the ‘Hate-in-India’ campaign.

Prashant Kishor gives 600 slides presentation, then snubs Congress’ proposal

Earlier it was reported that Prashant Kishor had given a 600 slide presentation to the party leadership to help them revive the party and save it from oblivion.

In the presentation, he had suggested Congress should try and push propaganda in the digital space and get Facebook, and Twitter influencers onboard along with like-minded media houses, which can be used for the party’s leverage. He had also suggested the party gets standup comedians on board to utilise their channels for propaganda.

Despite this, he rejected the offer to join the party. “In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms,” Prashant Kishor said in a tweet.

‘If required, we will use a bulldozer to remove encroachments, Delhi govt rehabilitating Bangladeshi and Rohingyas’: SDMC Mayor

On April 27, South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Mukesh Suryan inspected the encroachment and illegal construction in the areas of Jaitpur, Sarita Vihar, and Madanpur Khadar. He may also visit Okhla, Tilak Nagar and Shaheen Bagh, among other areas, to inspect the illegal construction and encroachment in those areas as well.

Speaking to Republic Bharat during the inspection, the Mayor said if required, the SDMC would use a bulldozer to remove the encroachment. He also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government was rehabilitating illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingyas.

When asked what the inspection was about, he said, “There are illegal constructions and encroachments. The Delhi government is rehabilitating illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. The people of Delhi are being deprived of the facilities they deserve. The facilities meant for the people of Delhi are being redirected to the illegal Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.” He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party was creating disruptions among communities in the country. “They support anti-nationals,” he added.

He said the team was going to Kanchan Colony, where illegal Rohingyas and Bangladeshis were lodged. “If required, we will use a bulldozer to remove encroachment on the government land.” He added a report was already ready in relation to the encroachments, and soon action would be taken.

Speaking to India TV, Kamlesh Kumar Shukla, Ward Councilor SDMC, said that it was a routine process to check and remove encroachments. “We had removed such encroachments before Jahangirpuri violence. If you check the MDC website, you will see the details of the encroachments removed by us. We only want to remove the illegal constructions and encroachments,” he said.

Notably, a notice about the drive was issued by SDMC on April 26. In the notice, areas to be surveyed by the team were mentioned.

AAP protested against the anti-encroachment drive

AAP leaders Gopal Rai and Durgesh Pathak led a protest against SDMC’s anti-encroachment drive. The AAP workers gathered in huge numbers and tried to march toward the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters to protest against the drive.

Speaking to Republic TV, an AAP leader alleged that BJP was in power in MCD for 15 years, but they could not see even a single encroachment. “Now, after organizing communal violence, they are trying to bring the Bulldozer politics to Delhi just like Uttar Pradesh. They are trying to polarize the votes. Bulldozer politics cannot work in Delhi as people are educated here.”

Another AAP worker said the protests were not against the Bulldozer but against the alleged attempts to extort money. “We are not against removing encroachments, but there should be no discrimination while removing encroachments based on religion or other factors,” he added.
