Astrologer predicts collapse of newly elected Maharashtra govt within 6 months even as reports of infighting emerge

A Mumbai-based astrologer has predicted that the Uddhav Thackeray-led government may not last beyond April, thereby collapsing in six months of formation. As reported by Mid-Day, astrologer Sushil Chaturvedi has predicted infighting in the coalition government to escalate between 7th February to 28th April which will eventually snowball and bring down the government.

As per Chaturvedi, the timing of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s swearing in ceremony, at 6:40 PM on Thursday, 28th November, in inauspicious as it falls between Rahu and Ketu. The planetary position is not favouring Thackeray at that time, he says. He says since the planets fall between Rahu and Ketu, it is a ‘very bad time’ and indicates destruction in coalition government.

Predicting infighting within the coalition, Chaturvedi said that the parties will lose most of the seats they have won for having done what they have to form the government. Meanwhile, a video clip of a 1980 Kamal Haasan movie Varumaiyan Niram Sivappu has gone viral on social media which ‘predicts’ the current political crisis in Maharashtra quite accurately.

In the clip, in what seems like an interview scene, the interviewer is asking Haasan who is the chief minister of Maharashtra. Haasan questions back, ‘today, yesterday or the day before? Because they change every day you see.”

The politics in Maharashtra has been embroiled in drama after the BJP emerged as single-largest party but had a fallout with its pre-poll alliance partner Shiv Sena after they did not agree to their demands and conditions. The Shiv Sena then joined hands with NCP and Congress and last Friday had announced Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray as CM candidate for the alliance. However, in a surprise move, on 23rd November, Saturday, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as CM with support of NCP’s Ajit Pawar, who too took oath as deputy chief minister on the same day.

The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress filed a joint petition in the Supreme Court challenging the government formation. On Tuesday, within few hours of the apex court ordering a floor test, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar resigned from their posts. Following that, Uddhav Thackeray was again declared the chief ministerial candidate for the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ coalition. Thackeray will swear in as the chief minister later today in Mumbai.

Sonia Gandhi makes Uddhav Thackeray grovel: Amidst speculations of her skipping swearing in, Aditya reaches 10 Janpath

Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray, is apparently on his way to meet interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi in order to invite her for the swearing-in ceremony of his father as Chief Minister, family journalist of the Nehru-Gandhi Parivar has reported.

According to Pallavi Ghosh, there has been no confirmation from Sonia Gandhi yet. Aditya Thackeray’s visit has now also been confirmed by ANI. According to reports, the event will not be attended by Rahul Gandhi.

Now that the Shiv Sena has irreparably broken its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress party and the Nationalist Congress Party appears to be squeezing the Shiv Sena out of its every remaining bit of dignity. Earlier, we had reported that the NCP was demanding the Chief Minister’s chair for two and a half years and the Deputy Chief Minister’s chair for Ajit Pawar. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut is still dreaming of a situation where Shiv Sena’s ‘Suryayaan’ lands in Delhi even as it’s not even a guarantee that Shiv Sena will occupy the Chief Minister’s office for five years.

UP: Christian Missionaries with Hindu names organised ‘Dharmasabha’ to convert sick people to Christianity, arrested

0

The religious conversion of unsuspecting people in Uttar Pradesh is steadily increasing as cases of proselytisation have started springing up. Recently, 3 Christian evangelists promoting religious conversion on the pretext of healing diseases were arrested from the Ranipur village of the Mau district.

On Tuesday, the police arrested the 3 Christian priests after VHP filed a complaint alleging that the 3 Christian padres are fueling superstition to undergo religious conversions. The police reached the spot and arrested the evangelists. Those arrested by the Mau police were identified as Kapil Dev Ram, Ajay Kumar and Omprakash. The three Christian preachers were reportedly engaged in proselytizing activities in Darora village of the area.

Apart from religious books, other paraphernalia used in religious conversion were also recovered from them. The three proselytisers had organised a ‘Dharmasabha’, promoting the religious conversion among the uninitiated folks as a panacea for the treatment of serious diseases. Poor people were present in this meeting with their sick relatives.

The missionaries involved in the religious conversion used to meet at the house of Kapil Dev Ram in the Darora village. A prayer meeting was also held every Sunday in his house which was used as a church. The priests had organised a program for religious conversion on Tuesday.

About 20 people were planned to be baptised into Christianity. The process of religious conversion began in the afternoon. VHP activist Ashutosh Pandey got wind of the blatant religious conversion and reported the event to the VHP District Vice President Ashwani Mishra and District President Bhanuprakash Pandey. Before long, a raft of VHP activists along with the village head reached the venue and confronted the Christian padres. Meanwhile, police also reached the spot and arrested the three proselytisers. A religious book, mustard oil and water kept in a vessel were recovered from them.

The people who came to attend the ceremony informed the police that they had brought their ailing family members to get rid of their diseases. According to them, the Christian padres had affirmed that after their religious conversion and consumption of the holy water, they would be relieved of their diseases.

Jyotiraditya Scindia is supreme, will be first to join if he forms new party: Congress MLA amidst increasing infighting

Jyotiraditya Scindia may be having some serious second thoughts concerning his future in the Congress party. Recently, a change in his Twitter bio had fueled speculations of political tension brewing in Madhya Pradesh Congress. Amidst all of this, Congress MLA from Pohari has added further fuel to the fire by asserting that he will be first to join Scindia’s new party should he decide to form one.

Congress MLA Suresh Rathkheda said in a video, “First of all, I don’t think Srimant Maharaj Saheb (Scindia, who hails from an erstwhile royal family) is leaving the party (Congress). But, let me tell you, he is a force in Madhya Pradesh and has the power to launch his own party. The day he does it, I will be the first one to join him. Wherever he goes, I’ll follow him. The party is supreme, but for me Maharaj Saheb is supreme.”

“He is a respectable person and I am his servant. And I will always rest my head at his feet and serve him. His love and support have made me what I am today. I will also tell my children to be his servants and support him always,” Rathkheda added. The Congress MLA’s statement clearly shows that Scindia enjoys significant support within the Congress ranks and should he decide to revolt, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh will collapse.

After speculations were fueled, Scindia had later clarified that he had changed his Twitter bio a month back and not in recent past. A cached copy of his bio had shown that he was only partially correct as his bio was changed anytime between the 3rd of November and the 7th.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has recently taken positions that were against the stand of his party on issues such as Article 370 where he had supported the Prime Minister’s decision to abrogate it. In September, Scindia had openly spoken out against Kamal Nath and said that the Chief Minister should stop outside interference within the government. The internal feud was also evident during the run-up to the state elections last year.

Interview: ‘We have truth on our side, we will win,’ SVDV scholars and alumni clear misconceptions spread by media

Opposition to the appointment of Dr Feroze by the students of the Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan of Benaras Hindu University continues. Various programs are being organized continuously as part of the movement. Students are getting the support of all professors, teachers and scholars including Shakaracharyas and the Kashi Vidvat Parishad. All the scholars asserted that the media projected Hindus as intolerant once again by making it a question of Sanskrit language and Hindu-Muslim from the very beginning of the movement, without being aware of their own ignorance or position here.

The current office bearer of Kashi Vidhyat Parishad and former professor of SVDV Ramayatan Shukla also said that for them, Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam is not a slogan but a way of life and as part of this, India embraced one and all. But never interfered in other’s traditions. ‘People from outside perceived our warmth as our weakness and damaged us from time to time. But even in the most difficult of times, there was someone or the other standing for the protection of religion, due to which our eternal traditions are alive today. Today students are standing for the protection of those traditions. Their struggle today is not only for today but for the time and generations to come. And today when all the people including the media are against them without knowing, then it is our responsibility to make them aware of the right issue.’

Prof. Shivaram Gangopadhyay, a learned scholar of jurisprudence, said, “The media’s propaganda among the people and their own ignorance has damaged the reputation of the university. But whose fault is it? When the faculty and people of BHU themselves are not properly aware of the rules of ‘Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan Faculty’. This dispute would not have happened if the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and the head of the department, Umakant Chaturvedi, were aware of the rules.

Read: BHU protest: Prof Vashisht Tripathi blames VC, said chaos could have been avoided if management had followed rules

Vashistha Narayan Tripathi, another professor of jurisprudence, also underlined the shortcomings of the administration in his statement. Along with this, all the scholars have answered all the misleading reportage by the media and the questions arising from the confusion. Opindia has brought them before you, so if you are still in doubt or a victim of any confusion and have adopted the half-incomplete and incorrect information spread on Google as knowledge then read the answers, understand yourself and explain it to others as well so that the right issue reaches the people and the university is forced to rectify its mistakes.

In the process of answering the questions in a program held on the stage of Banaras in the morning of Assi Ghat yesterday, Dr Munish Mishra, an alumnus of SVDV, said, “We are Vedic Sanatani who follow notions such as Swadharma Nidhan Shreya Paradharmo Bhayavah.” He said that having knowledge of Sanskrit is a separate matter, but to be the master of that tradition is a different thing. He emphasized that even today some so-called intellectuals are misrepresenting students and people of the country. So here are some major questions and their answers:

Who gave the students the right to dismiss the appointment of a teacher?

According to the Puranas, many students abandon their gurus due to their conduct, like Bhakta Prahlad ji had abandoned Shukracharya’s son Sandamark because he was divinely divine and Sandamarka was a supporter of Rakshasas. Thus, in Sanatana Dharma, there is provision for a Shishya to abandon a Guru to the latter’s abandonment of Dharma

Does language have any religion?

Don’t know about the religion of languages, but there is a classical language of every religion, with the help of which we get detailed information about that religion. If it were not so, then to know about the intimate facts of different religions, written texts in that particular language would not have to be read. Just as one has to read scriptures written in Urdu Farsi to know the religion of Islam, one has to read the Bible for the intimate knowledge of Christianity, and the scriptures written in Sanskrit are the best help to learn the deep mysteries of Sanatan. Therefore, it is imperative to keep their scriptures from other religions for the protection of their intimate secrets.

Why respect Muslims like Kabir, Rahim, Rasakhan, Darashikoh all along, APJ Abdul Kalam but oppose Feroz Khan?

Darashikoh and others, despite having knowledge of Sanskrit and Sanatan traditions, neither made any application for Sanatan Dharmacharyas nor did they make any movement nor were they in a position to hold a post but Firoz Khan was aware that it was a suitable post only for the Sanatanis, but still insisting on his stubbornness, he is claiming the position.

So, we are liberal people who understood Sanatan, we respect Raskhan, Rahim from our heart, but if someone comes along and bids for our house, we do have to oppose it. It is only because we have done such retaliation in every phase that we have been able to save the Sanatan tradition to a great extent. The promotion and preservation of Prach Vidya is at the core of SVDV, and it is a unique institution in itself.

In Feroze’s house everyone loves Sanskrit, the Father sings hymns etc. What do you oppose him?

Reading Sanskrit is not a matter of curiosity but it is not completely true to say that he is a lover of Sanskrit. If he were one, he would not have hurt the religious sentiments of others. I think he learnt Sanskrit for commercial purposes if they are learning Sanskrit from three generations.

Read: BHU students organise Rudhrabhishek as part of agitation against appointment of non-Hindu to the faculty of theology

They are studying Sanskrit, they are interested in singing hymns and ideologically Sanatani also, then why have they not accepted Sanatan Dharma till now? On one hand, they also offer namaz, celebrate violent festivals like Bakrid and on the other hand sing hymns in the temple for livelihood. They pretend to be Sanatani, they all pretend to live. Sanskrit lover does not violate Sanskrit scriptures, therefore it is unfair to call Firoz a lover of Sanskrit.

Feroze Khan has been appointed to teach literature, not Vedic rituals, but what is the objection to him reading Rasgangadhar?

Not only for Rasgangadhara but even Kaviprakash and others, he is also not eligible to teach because they do not believe in Gods and Goddesses. In such a situation, to say Ratis specific to Gods and Goddesses is not related to religion is against the scriptures. The literature is not limited only to Rasgangadhar, most of the literary texts have Ved Puranas and hence it is unfair to say it has nothing to do with religion.

Does ability not matter to you, instead of taking knowledge from a scholar, it is important to know his religion?

When reservation on the basis of caste swallows ability, then no one speaks but today, people are talking about ability. The point here is not to disrespect ability. If they are so capable, instead of quarrelling, put an application for transfer to another department. We will salute his ability, but if someone comes to teach religion, he will definitely be asked about it. As an example, a person who has never driven a vehicle himself and if we appoint him to teach driving, then what will happen, both the learner and the teacher will crash. Therefore, the teacher teaching the religion must also be of the same religion.

In the program held at Assi Ghat, all scholars and alumni, including Dr. Munish Mishra, responded to the questions of the people and cleared many of the misconceptions raised in the media. At the same time, while talking to Opindia, he also asked to be informed if someone is spreading a lie or if a new question comes up again, of course, if he is a sophist in the name of logic. ‘There is a tradition of scripture in Sanatan. There is no ultimate truth in us. And this Sanskrit science has been established only for the interpretation and preservation of the truth of religion and its science.’

Munish Mishra also said, “The battle of religion is always won on the basis of truth and fact and we have these two on our side, so our victory is sure. Gods took shelter of their Guru Brihaspati even in the face of lakhs of misfortune, while Shukracharya was not less in terms of knowledge than Jupiter but the Gods followed the Guru according to their tradition, so they were always victorious.

Our tradition has been to honour scholars the way Lord Sri Rama respected Ravana’s scholarship but only respected him and not called for teaching in a gurukula because it was a distinction between the traditional conduct of Rama and Ravana. So Firoz Khan can be a scholar and we also respect him but due to differences in traditional conduct, he cannot become our Acharya.”

Allot 5-acre land to us to build hospital if Sunni Waqf Board does not want it to build mosque: Shia Waqf Board

On Wednesday, the Shia Central Waqf Board said that if the Sunni Central Waqf Board does not wish to accept the five-acre land granted to the Muslim side by the Supreme Court, then it will claim the plot and build a hospital there.

Reportedly, Waseem Rizvi, the Chairman of the Shia Central Waqf Board said that they have passed a resolution that if Sunni Waqf Board refuses to accept the 5-acre land that is promised by the Supreme Court to build a mosque then they will file a petition in the Supreme Court asking them to allocate the land to Shia Waqf Board.

Waseem Rizvi said Shia Waqf Board will build a hospital on that 5-acre land where people from all religions will be treated free of cost.

Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi also stated that after a board meeting today they have decided that they will not go for a review of the apex court’s verdict in the long-pending issue.

“Shia Waqf Board believes that whatever decision the Supreme Court has taken is final and in the national interest, therefore there is no need to escalate the matter by filing a review petition. Muslims of the country have welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision. Shia Central Waqf Board does not agree with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s decision and it’s also not part of the AIMPLB,” they said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to file a review petition in the Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya case. Earlier in the day, the AIMPLB said that they will ‘exercise their constitutional right’ and file a review petition in the Ayodhya case during the first week of December.

They also said that the decision of the Sunni Waqf Board not to file a review petition in the case will not affect the AIMPLB legally. Earlier, the Sunni Waqf Board had decided against filing a review petition in the Ayodhya case.

In a historic judgment on November 9, the Supreme Court had established that the Hindus have a right on the entire 67-acre Ram Janmabhoomi and ordered the construction of a Ram temple by a government trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya. It had also granted an alternate 5-acre land to the Muslims to build their Masjid in the Hindu holy town.

BHU protest: Prof Vashisht Tripathi blames VC, said chaos could have been avoided if management had followed rules

0

The BHU students’ agitation over the appointment of Dr Feroz Khan in the Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan (SVDV) faculty of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) with has today entered its 21st day.

Though the students had decided to stop their demonstration temporarily, giving 10 days to the management to come to an amicable decision regarding their demands over the appointment of a Muslim professor, they have continued with their agitation against the same. And to keep up the tempo of the movement, the students have been organising various programs, discussion sessions and meetings every day in which prominent personalities and intellectuals are being invited as guest speakers.

Since most of the dignitaries who are being invited are mostly former professors and lecturers no longer associated with the University, they have no qualms in pointing out the role of the vice-chancellor in the ensnare.

Today, as a part of the ongoing agitation, the students had taken out a torchlight procession from BHU’s Simha Dwar at 4.30 pm.

Yesterday, the students had organised a consultation meeting at Assi ghat in Varanasi. Speaking at the event, former SVDV student and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Rector Prof Vashisht Tripathi called the appointment of non-Hindu to the faculty of theology against the values of Mahamana and the constitution of the University.

Addressing the students, Tripathi said: “History is written on the basis of inscriptions. If we rely on the inscriptions present at BHU’ foundation site for the date on which the university came into existence then we should also rely on the rules written for the department of theology and religion where Sanskrit has deep religious significance and is just not a linguistic endeavour. Traditionally a law student cannot teach history or grammar then how can one expect that a person belonging to a different religion be allowed to teach in the SVDV faculty”, said Prof Vashisht Tripathi.

Vashisht Tripathi, who is an alumnus of the university, and has been conferred with the President’s Award for Educational Achievement and Vishwa Bharti award, the highest award of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Sansthan in Lucknow, questioned the administration and the selection committee on their decision to appoint a non-Hindu to the faculty of theology. He asserted that such an appointment in any other department would not be a problem but even the constitution does not give the right to anyone to interfere in someones religious beliefs”.

Refuting claims that Jainism or Buddhism is not a part of Hinduism, Tripathi said that any religion that emerged in India is an offshoot of Sanatana Dharma and the people who make such ridiculous claims are mentally unstable, said the Rector.

He furthered that this is a fight of beliefs and congratulated the students to stick to their faith. Praising the student’s mettle, Tripathi asked “initially how many professors could muster the courage to openly question the vice-chancellor, head of the department and the faculty head’s wrong decision? It was due to the courage shown by the students that gradually professors and others started joining the movement, said Vashisht Tripathi.

He furthered that people who have mostly relied on media for the updates on the ongoing protest were initially misled by the malicious coverage and now gradually are getting the real picture.

It is noteworthy that when the students were protesting about the appointment of Professor Feroz Khan, all the media groups across the country ran this news as if the appointment of a Muslim teacher was being opposed in the entire BHU but it is not the case.

Read: As students burn VC’s effigies, Shankacharya writes to PM Modi on the BHU protests, PMO asks BHU admin for report

Tripathi said that the old professors of the university are well versed with the college rules but the faculty head and vice-chancellor did not consider to ask for their suggestions before taking such a decision. Calling the movement one of its kind, Tripathi asserted that had the administration acted prudently the students wouldn’t have had to take to the streets trying to protect their religion and eternal values.

Dr Shivaram Gangopadhyay, another alumnus and professor in the law department of the Faculty of Religion, who was also present in the meeting convened on the 26th of November at the Assi Ghat said: No two religions can go hand in hand. If one says that he believes in two religions at the same time he is nothing but an atheist, said the professor.

Talking about Dr Feroz Khan’ claims on his adulation for the Sanskrit language, the professor asserted that if he has so much respect for the religion and language then he should have adopted Sanathana Dharma by now. He also said that everyone should respect their religion and under no circumstances, one should disown his or her own religion. It is different to know a language but entirely different to feel or imbue the deep significance of culture and religion. It is possible that while teaching, he interprets our scriptures according to his religion, which would, in turn, destroy our traditions, asserted Gangopadhyay.

The professor furthered that there is no harm in teaching Sanskrit as a linguistic endeavour but one would definitely want to learn their own faith from someone who is a practitioner of the faith.

Another ex-SVDV student and renowned poet Dr Anil Chaubey, who could not participate in the discussions due to bad health remained present in the meeting throughout to encourage and provide his support to the students.

Meanwhile, another professor named Dr Munish Mishra, who could not be present in the meeting, extended his support to the students through the media and also blamed the administrations for its flawed decisions, which led to the prolonged protests, stigmatizing the university’s name. Mishra said that the government should think twice before appointing a vice-chancellor for the university as one wrong decision can cost the university dearly.

At the end of the meet, Sashikant Mishra, one of the main organisers of the event along with other students namely Shubham Tiwari, the convener of the event, Krishna Kumar Mishra, who was the presenter and Chakrapani Ojha, while giving the vote of thanks, invited everyone to join the movement.

In reality, the current protests are against the appointment of a non-Hindu to the ‘Faculty of Theology’. There are two departments for Sanskrit in BHU, one under Arts Faculty and the other under SVDV Faculty. The first is the study of Sanskrit and the other is the theology of religion. There are different ways of studying in these two. Sanskrit is taught as a language in the Sanskrit department. At the same time, in the SVDV,  students are taught about the customs, mantras, shlokas, rituals of worship and rituals of Sanatan Dharma.

The fact to understand in the entire controversy is that BHU has a separate Arts department that teaches Sanskrit as a linguistic endeavour. Just as one would perhaps learn French or English or even Hindi. The Sanskrit being taught at the Dharma Vigyan department has deep religious significance.

It is not wrong for BHU students to want to learn their own faith from someone who is a practitioner of the faith. In fact, the BHU students have categorically stated that they have no problem with Dr Khan and that he should be shifted to the Arts faculty to teach Sanskrit as a linguistic endeavour.

Besides drawing support from current and past professors of BHU, this protest has also attained the support of other gurus and maha acharyas of various institutions in Banaras. In fact, professors of the famous Kashi Vidhut Parishad in Banaras and the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith have also extended their support to the same.

Meanwhile, a day before, on November 24, two Emeritus Professors of SVDV, Prof. Reva Prasad Dwivedi and Prof. Kamlesh Dutt Tripathi had written a three-page letter to President Ramnath Kovind, signed by 50 other professors, expressing their displeasure over the entire controversy. Both professors are well-known names in the field of Sanskrit and Religion and having served in the faculty for almost 50 years, have also held the posts of Head of Department and Dean.

Both Emeritus Professors of the Faculty of Religion said that the appointment of a Muslim teacher in the Religious Literature Department of this Faculty is against both the sentiments of religious education and the Kashi scholarly tradition and the Act and tradition of BHU. He has also requested the President to protect the dignity of the university and to get rid of this problem.

It is pertinent to note here, that OpIndia has been persistently following every single development and bringing to you exclusive ground reports and the accurate version of the students demands from the very beginning. A deliberate attempt has been made by the media to demonize the students for their fair concerns. However, we have striven hard to portray the accurate version of events.

SPG Amendment Bill:Amit Shah asks why Gandhis secretive about their trips, says bill amended several times to benefit 1 family

Launching an unsparing attack against the Congress party and the Gandhis over their SPG protection rhetoric, Union Home Minister Amit Shah while speaking on the issue of the passage of the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill 2019 said that the security cover of the Gandhi family has been replaced and not revoked as insinuated by many of its leaders.

“An effort is being made to tarnish the central government by painting a picture that the government is apathetic towards the security concerns of the Gandhi family and that their protection has been withdrawn. However, far from reducing their security, we have increased their security cover, based on the threat assessment by the security agencies,” Shah said.

Ever since the government of India had downgraded the security cover of the Gandhi family members- Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress leaders have launched an offensive against the central government, accusing it of perpetuating vendetta politics. Manish Tewari today questioned in the Lok Sabha the centre’s decision to remove the SPG cover of the Gandhis and other prominent Congress leaders such as former PM Manmohan Singh despite intelligence inputs in June suggesting threat assessment has increased.

Read: Here are the possible reasons why Rahul, Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi lost their SPG cover

Responding on the allegations of vendetta politics, Amit Shah contended that it is not in the ethos of the BJP to embrace a vindictive approach in the politics. The vindictive approach is the hallmark of the Congress party, he said.

Taking a swipe at the Congress leaders, Amit Shah insinuated that the protesting Congress leaders are worried about a family and not for the VIPs. Amit Shah asserted that when former PM Manmohan Singh’s SPG security cover was diluted, no one protested but after the dilution of Gandhis security cover, suddenly they have started creating a ruckus. “Why are their differing yardstick to display concern for the security of former PM MMS and the Gandhi family?” Shah questioned.

Read: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra continues to stay in govt accommodation despite the removal of SPG cover

Shah held the Congress party in the dock for bringing several amendments in the SPG Bill with the stated aim of favouring the Gandhi family. Shah claimed that the amendment bill placed by the government is the first time that the security of the Prime Minister is kept in mind.

Defending the government’s stance on the SPG (Amendment) Bill 2019, Shah reasoned that his government is committed to providing security to every political party and is already providing the same. However, he added that political parties can’t be provided security equal to that of the Prime Minister of the country.

Amit Shah also listed down the number of instances when the SPG cover was flouted by the Gandhi family. He claimed that on more than 600 occasions, member of Gandhi family went on a trip without taking their SPG cover. Rahul Gandhi, according to Shah, violated SPG norms about 1892 times while travelling in India and about 247 times on his foreign tours since 2015. Essentially, Amit Shah asked the Gandhis why they were so secretive about their trips.

The SPG amendment bill was tabled in the parliament days after the government decided to withdraw the SPG security of the Gandhi family and replaced it with the ‘Z-plus’ security cover by the CRPF.

Karnataka: HD Kumaraswamy cries once again ahead of by-polls, says running coalition govt with Congress was not easy

On Wednesday, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy yet again shed tears as he lamented against the people of Mandya for deserting him by defeating his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy in the Lok Sabha election this year.

Ahead of the by-polls in Krishnarashpete (KR Pete) constituency of Mandya district, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy was speaking at an election rally seeking support for his party candidate BL Devaraju.

Former CM HD Kumaraswamy said he never wanted his son to contest the election but because of the people of Mandya’s insistence, he had fielded him. The people of Mandya have deserted me, said Kumaraswamy as he broke down during a public meeting at Kikkeri village in Mandya district.

In a choked voice and wiping his tears, Kumaraswamy said he was not crying because of losing power but it was only the expression of the pain that he has gone through. What wrong I have done to the people of the state? asked Kumaraswamy.

Kumaraswamy said he was not worried about his son losing the election but was anguished that the people of Mandya, whom he trusted the most, deserted him.

“The post of the chief minister is nothing for me. I need your love and affection and nothing else,” said Kumaraswamy before bursting into tears. The JDS leader said he was in politics only to serve the poor and downtrodden.

Interestingly, launching an attack on the Congress party, Kumaraswamy said that it was the compulsion from Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, which made him take up the post of Chief Minister in the state after the 2018 assembly elections threw up a hung assembly.

“Those 14 months tenure was not an easy one. To tell you the truth, I neither worked peacefully from day one nor had proper sleep,” Kumaraswamy told the crowd.

The KR Pete seat became vacant following the disqualification of KC Narayana Gowda of JDS by the then speaker KR Ramesh Kumar. In July this year, 17 MLAs were disqualified by Speaker Ramesh Kumar after Congress and JD(S) had a complaint regarding their absence and resignation from the assembly during the trust vote leading to the collapse of then Kumaraswamy-led government.

On November 13, the Supreme Court had quashed the order of the speaker and had allowed the rebel MLAs to contest in the upcoming Karnataka by-polls. However, the apex court had also upheld former Karnataka Speaker’s order to disqualify 17 ‘rebel’ Congress and JD(S) MLAs.

The Supreme Court has quashed the order of former Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar, who had disqualified the MLAs from contesting elections until the term of the current assembly, till 2023. Fourteen rebel MLAs of the Congress and three of the JDS were disqualified under the anti-defection law by the Speaker in July.

The by-polls to 15 out of 17 Karnataka assembly seats, which became vacant following the disqualification of MLAs, are scheduled to be held on December 5. The by-polls will not be taking place at two out of the 17 vacant seats — Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Maski as separate election petitions challenging the results of the 2018 elections are pending in Karnataka High Court.

UP police prepares charge-sheet against fake news peddler Prashant Kanojia under IT Act

0

The Hazratganj police of Uttar Pradesh in its pursuit to arrest ‘journalist’ and social media troll Prashant Kanojia, has now prepared a charge-sheet based on the FIR filed against him for spreading rumours on social media.

According to a report by the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the Hazratganj police will be sending the charge-sheet to the UP government for approval. After getting the government’s nod, the police will be submitting the charge-sheet in the court.

The senior police officials have also sought a progress report from the Hazratganj police station. The charge-sheet has been prepared under Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) which provides three years of imprisonment if found guilty by the court.

The Supreme Court had on June 11, asked the UP government to show ‘magnanimity’ in releasing the controversial journalist Prashant Kanojia who was arrested by the Hazratgunj police for posting derogatory tweets against Hindu gods and defamatory posts on UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

The Uttar Pradesh government has countered the bail application filed by Prashant Kanojia’s wife who challenged Kanojia’s arrest in the Supreme Court.

The UP police officials had picked up Prashant Kanojia after a case was registered at Hazratganj police station, Lucknow. The arrest was made after he was accused of spreading rumours on social media. The police alleged that the accused made “objectionable comments against the CM and tried to malign his image”. The police officials later confirmed that the accused has confessed to his crime.
