No, the ‘Love Jihad in Kerala’ viral video with Skybags suitcase towards end is not ad for VIP, read details

On Monday (April 24), luggage manufacturing company VIP Industries issued a clarification, after its bags were featured in a recent viral video on social media.

In a statement, it said, “VIP Industries Limited would like to clarify that a certain fake, malicious and mischievous advertisement is being circulated on various social media platforms and micro-blogging sites.”

“The creator of this advertisement has unlawfully used VIP and Skybags brand names and attempted to tarnish the image of our company and brand names,” VIP Industries informed.

It emphasised, “VIP Industries has not issued this advertisement and has no connection with the person who has put this advertisement.” VIP Industries further added that it has filed a complaint with the police for unauthorised use of its names and trademarks.

The Background of the Controversy

OpIndia had reported how two Malayalam actors Sumi Rashik and Vishnu K Vijayan shared a music video, normalising conversion of one’s faith from Hinduism to Islam for alleged love, on the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr. Objections were raised by netizens who felt the removal of bindi of the girl playing role of Hindu girl and making her wear a dupatta covering her head like a hijab depicted love jihad.

The contentious video depicted actress Sumi Rashik as a Hindu woman in love with Vishnu K Vijayan, who was seen wearing an Islamic cap, offering Namaz, and then removing the bindi off Rashik’s forehead.

The actress, dressed in a red and yellow typical South Indian style lehnga choli, was seen changing into a salwar kameez presented to her by Vijayan, representing her transition to the Islamic Faith.

The video received widespread criticism on social media, following which the actor deleted the video. Meanwhile, a watermark of parody page of the controversial ‘Huffington Post’, by the name of ‘Puffington Ghost,’ was shown on the edited clip.

Screengrab of the now-deleted page of Puffington Ghost

There have been recent incidents where some women who had converted to Islam from Hinduism for alleged love were found killed. This has led to the ‘suitcase’ and ‘fridge’ reference after some girls allegedly killed by their lovers were disposed of in suitcases or stored in refrigerators before being disposed off.

While there are many interfaith couples who are happily married, there have also been reports where many times women in interfaith relationships are either tricked into one by man pretending to be a Hindu or after marriage, there is a pressure to convert to Islam. Here is a list of 153 such cases OpIndia covered in 2022.

However, several social media users mistook the uncanny edit by the parody page for a ‘real advertisement’ by Skybag. One user shared the edited video and wrote, “Love Jihad Advt by Skybag in Kerala…Really very disturbing.”

The watermark of ‘Puffington Ghost’ can be easily seen in the video. Given that the parody page did not seek permission from VIP Industries, the latter has now filed a police complaint against it and issued a clarification into the matter.

Meanwhile, Puffington Ghost’ has deleted its page.

Assam: Group of Muslim men beat up women for ‘engaging in immoral act’ a day after Eid, arrested

A day after Eid, a group of Muslim men mercilessly beat up two women in broad daylight. The incident took place on Sunday (April 23) at a roadside Dhaba (eatery) near the bridge of the Beki River on National Highway 31, Barpeta, Assam. The video was the incident has gone viral on social media.

The Barpeta police took to Twitter to inform that 10 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Notably, this year Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated on Saturday, April 22, 2023, followed by Basi Eid on April 23, 2023.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Sanidul Islam, Bilal Hussain, Amir Hussain, Alamgir Ali, Akaas Ali, Saqibul Hussain, Saddam Hussain, Jahidul Islam, Abul Hussain, Abdul Latif, and Raju Ahmed reportedly dragged the women out of the dhaba and subjected them to verbal abuse before physically assaulting them. The irate mob also broke into the dhaba and ransacked the place. A customer at the dhaba was also beaten up by the assailants.

The assaulters accused the women of ‘engaging in an immoral act’ inside the Dhaba premises. Locals alleged that the people in the dhaba were involved in immoral activities including sex rackets, and drugs among others.

The young women were fortunately saved due to the promptness shown by a few local youths present at the dhaba. On getting the information, the Barpeta police reached the spot, intervened and took the two young women into their custody.

Journalist of ‘What is a woman’ fame says YouTube threatened to deplatform him if he doesn’t affirm to gender ideology: What happened

On April 25 (local time), journalist Matt Walsh said on Twitter that his production house would post the content directly on Twitter as YouTube threatened to deplatform him if he did not reaffirm dangerous gender ideology. The Matt Walsh Show tweeted, “YouTube has threatened to ban us if we don’t affirm gender ideology. They want me to either surrender my principles or become irrelevant. So starting today, every episode of this show will be posted on Twitter, which is now the most powerful free speech platform in the world.”

In the video, he said, “On the YouTube front, as long as they make an affirmation of gender ideology a prerequisite for posting my show on the platform, I will not post my show on the platform. But also, I will not allow myself to be banished into the obscurity of some internet get where nobody will find my content. This is the choice big tech wants us to make. They want me to either surrender my principles or become irrelevant. They will be happy with whatever of the two options I choose. Either one is fine with them. Which is why I choose neither.”

“Instead, starting today, we will make the show available to everyone for free on Daily Wire. They also will be available on Rumble, Apple Podcast, Spotify and all the other places where you normally get the podcast. And we are trying something new as well. Starting today, every show episode will also be posted in full on Twitter, the most powerful free speech platform in the world. And seems like the place where the show belongs. If you follow our channel on YouTube, you will still find plenty of content that we make specially for you. We will post clips from the show so we can reach new audiences without message,” he added.

Regarding uploading full episodes on YouTube, he said, “We are not going to give YouTube our full shows as long as the situation remains as it is. The point is we are not going to capitulate. We are also not going to scale down and become obsolete. Instead, we are going to be bigger. We are going to be more innovative. We are going to reach more people in more ways on more platforms. That is our response. This is just the beginning, and I will announce more soon.”

Who is Matt Walsh?

Matt Walsh is an American right-wing political commentator, writer and speaker. He is best known for the Matt Walsh Show. He produced the documentary “What Is A Woman” in 2022. Walsh works with Daily Wire, a conservative news platform. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, 36-year-old Matt Walsh is a conservative and speaks openly against the critical gender theory that is being fed to the West. Walsh’s videos’ criticism transgenderism in children has gained a lot of traction on social media.

Walsh is very outspoken against transgenderism spreading like wildfire. He has opined that believing that being trans is a mental illness and can be compared to schizophrenia. In 2019, he tweeted, “A “transwoman” is a biological man with a mental illness that causes him to believe he is a woman. We do not need to redefine biology to accommodate the delusions of confused people.”

Back in 2016, he said, “Trans” people and schizophrenics both suffer from severe mental illness.” Walsh has emphasised that affirmation of transgenderism would lead to sexual deviancy and advocacy of paedophilia in his tweets.

In recent videos making rounds on social media, he could be seen arguing with the alleged “trans” people about how the theory of gender affirmation is problematic. He pointed out how men and women are biologically different. He shut down a trans medical care provider by asking the nurse if they would consider a biological man identifying as a woman to have a miscarriage.

Twitter will no longer suspend users for “misgerdering”

Recently, Twitter modified its hateful conduct policy and removed “misgendering” as grounds for suspension. Twitter made a significant change in its policy by removing the aspect of the “Hateful Conduct” policy under which a Twitter user might get suspended if they were found misgendering or deadnaming transgender individuals. The change was noticed by social media users and media houses only on April 18, when it made headlines. Some reports suggest that such changes would make Twitter “less safe for marginalised groups”.

UP Police recreates encounter scene of Asad Ahmed, who had peed his pants, and his aide Ghulam in Jhansi, watch

The encounter of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam in Jhansi was reenacted by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday. Asad and Ghulam were shot and killed by the UP Police Special Task Force in an encounter on April 13. A video posted by news agency ANI shows the UP police present at the spot where they were killed.

In the video, one can see two men posing as the gangster duo pointing revolvers next to a bike. Asad and Ghulam had also died next to a bike. The police can also been seen recreating a situation on how the bike ridden by the gangsters might have skid. In the images that had gone viral after the encounter, one could see Asad had urinated in his pants. As per information available and videos released to media, this urinating part was not recreated by the police.

Few days back, the SIT had recreated the crime scene where Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed by three men when police had taken them for a medical check up in Prayagraj.

A two-person judicial panel has already been established by the government of Uttar Pradesh to look into the killing of Atiq Ahmad’s child. The panel, which also includes former director general Vijay Kumar Gupta and high court judge Rajeev Lochan Mehrotra, will examine every facet of the encounter.

The incident happened at 12:45 pm on April 13 when two squads encountered Asad and Ghulam on the Kanpur-Jhansi route, according to the UP STF. Both were missing after being implicated in the February 24 murder of lawyer Umesh Pal in Prayagraj.

Around 11.30 am, the pair was spotted riding a bike 100 yards from the Parichha dam curve. The accused both accelerated their bikes and drove into a tight lane when they were told to halt and surrender. When trapped, Asad and Ghulam sank to the ground and began firing with weapons of foreign origin. The STF responded, and over the next 30 minutes, both sides traded gunfire. Asad and Ghulam died in the police’s retaliatory firing.

Asad was shot to death two days before his father Atiq Ahmad and uncle Ashraf were murdered in Prayagraj by three gunmen. While pretending to be journalists with video cameras, microphones, and press identification cards, Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya shot the duo as they were being brought for a medical examination. While Ashraf had five gunshot wounds, Atiq Ahmad was hit nine times in the head and chest.

‘Whosoever is a Modi bhakt will be killed’: Congress leader Dr Udit Raj issues death threats to supporters of PM Modi

Senior Congress leader Dr Udit Raj was embroiled in a fresh controversy on Tuesday after he threatened death to Modi supporters, which the opposition pejoratively calls ‘Modi Bhakts’.

“Jo bhi Modi bhakt hoga, mara jaega (Whosoever is a Modi Bhakt, he will be killed),” Dr Udit Raj tweeted along with his picture from his recent public meeting.

Raj’s overtly threatening message sparked outrage on Twitter, with many social media users asking Home Ministry to act against the leader for threatening people for exercising their democratic right of electing the leader of their choice.

A Twitter user highlighted that Congress leaders are extremists masquerading as peace-loving people and one cannot imagine what would happen if they come back to power.

Another Twitter user wondered if this is what the ‘Politics of love’ is that Rahul Gandhi keeps trotting about.

Yet another Twitter user reacted to Raj’s tweet, saying Rahul Gandhi, who boasted about opening a shop of love, is making his pawns issue death threats to supporters of their political opponents.

The past shenanigans of Congress leader Dr Udit Raj

However, this is not the first time that Dr Udit Raj has found himself in the crosshairs of social media users. Earlier too, the Congress leader has courted controversies, attracting the wrath of netizens for his inconsiderate and impetuous remarks on Twitter.

In May 2022, Udit Raj shared a meme mocking Adivasis, drawing the ire of netizens who slammed him for stereotyping tribals. In a tweet, he mocked the primitive lifestyle of Adivasis and superimposed that with the poor nearly having any clothes to wear.

Months later, in December 2022, when the controversy erupted over the risqué score from the SRK-starrer Pathaan, ‘Besharam Rang’, the Congress leader offered unsolicited advice, urging feminists to oppose ‘bhakts’ by wearing saffron bikinis and bras. “My advice to feminists is to reply to these bhakts by wearing saffron coloured bikinis and bras etc,” he had tweeted.

In May 2021, Congress leader Udit Raj successfully stopped a journalist from releasing his interview after he threatened to get the journalist imprisoned under the SC/ST Act if he dared to release the interview which apparently had some difficult questions for the Congress leader.

The journalist has shared his allegations against Udit Raj with OpIndia. He has reached out to share that he is being threatened and intimidated by the Congress leader over some parts of an interview. We are withholding his identity to prevent further harassment of this media person by the Dalit leader.

The journalist who interviewed the Congress leader said Raj was rattled by one of the uncomfortable questions he had asked during his interview. Enraged by the question, Kumar threatened the journalist with imprisonment under the SC/ST Act if he released the interview.

Video of Asaduddin Owaisi saying ‘Atiq Ahmed Zindabad’ goes viral: Read the truth about the video

Days after the assassination of Atiq Ahmed, a video of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi hailing the gangster-politician during a public rally has gone viral on social media.

The video, uploaded on Twitter by popular user ‘Befitting Facts’ show the AIMIM leader shouting ‘Atiq Ahmed Zindabad’ before a swarming crowd of his supporters.

Naara e Takbeer…Allah hu Akbar… Atiq Ahmed Zindabad…Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen Zindabad,” he was heard as saying. The video has sparked angry reactions on social media, with netizens slamming Owaisi for glorifying a deceased criminal.

The contentious video was shot on September 22, 2021, during a public meeting of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Prayagraj City of Uttar Pradesh.

During his provocative speech, he tried to downplay the criminal record of Atiq Ahmed and attempted to pass him off as a ‘victim’ of BJP’s high-handedness. At about 22 minutes into the programme, he was seen encouraging his supporters to raise Islamic chants of ‘Naara e Takbeer’ and ‘Allah hu Akbar.’

Amidst the religious sloganeering, he pushed in the name of Atiq Ahmed so as to ensure that his followers respond with a ‘Zindabad’ after the gangster’s time.

It must be mentioned that on September 7, 2021, Atiq Ahmed joined AIMIM in absentia and his wife Shaista Parveen was inducted into the party in the presence of Asaduddin Owaisi.

The AIMIM chief had defended the decision by alleging that the BJP too had several lawmakers (37% MLAs in UP Assembly and 117 MPs in the Parliament) with serious criminal charges pending against them.

In January 2022, Owaisi gave a ticket to Atiq Ahmed’s wife to contest the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections from the Allahabad West constituency. She lost. On April 15 this year, the gangster-politician and his brother Ashraf were shot dead from point-blank range in Prayagraj.

Atiq’s son Asad Ahmed and aide Ghulam were also neutralised in an encounter operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police on April 13, 2023. Shaista Parveen is currently on the run from law enforcement authorities. She is wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Gujarat ATS gets custody of Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with case related to cross border trafficking of drugs

On Monday, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) got the custody of jailed notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with a case related to the trafficking of drugs with links to Pakistan. According to news agency ANI, Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Monday granted the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad transit remand of Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail.

Reportedly, Gujarat ATS officials want to interrogate the gangster about his suspected involvement in the seizure of 40 kilogrammes of heroin worth more than Rs 200 crore from a Pakistani fishing boat in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat last September. Six Pakistani nationals present on the trawler were also arrested, an ATS official said.

“We have got Bishnoi’s custody and our teams are already on the way to Gujarat. He will be produced in a court in the Kutch district by Tuesday evening,” a senior ATS official was quoted as saying.

Contraband worth Rs 200 crores seized off the Gujarat coasts

On September 14, a joint operation by the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad caught a Pakistani fish trawler carrying 40 kgs of drugs worth Rs 200 crores off the Gujarat coast. The drugs were reportedly meant to be transported to Punjab after being offloaded on the Gujarat coast. Acting on a specific tip-off, the joint team of ATS and Coast Guard intercepted the boat that left Pakistan and caught six Pakistani nationals with 40 kg of heroin.

It was reported that the contraband caught was linked to jails in Amritsar, Ferozepur, and Faridkot in Punjab. The drugs seized were reportedly ordered by a Nigerian national named Chief lodged in Amritsar Jail and Meraj Rahmani imprisoned in Kapurthala Jail.

NIA files chargesheet against Lawrence Bishnoi

Meanwhile, last month, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also filed a chargesheet against notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar and 12 others having links with the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and several other pro-Khalistani terrorist outfits, in the second of the three terror-gangster nexus cases.

All the 14 accused have been charged with criminal conspiracy to unleash a wave of terror and carry out targeted killings of well-known social and religious leaders, movie stars, singers and businessmen, said the NIA. Besides having links with conspirators in Pakistan, the accused were also in contact with pro-Khalistani elements based in Canada, Nepal and other countries, NIA investigations have revealed.

More than 100 crore people have listened to PM Modi’s Mann ki Baat, IIM Rohtak survey shows ahead of the 100th episode of the program

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ approaches its 100th episode on April 30, a survey conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak shows that at least twenty-three crore people have ‘listened to or viewed’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast regularly and over 100 crore people have listened to it at least once.

It further said about 96 per cent of people are aware of the monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, and 41 crore people have the scope of converting from occasional audience to regular audience.

These statistics were revealed in an exhaustive study commissioned by Prasar Bharati and conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak.

The survey on listener feedback and sentiment analysis of Mann Ki Baat was commissioned by All India Radio. In its survey, IIM Rohtak sampled 10,003 people from the North, South, East, and West regions of India using snowball sampling through a psychometrically purified survey instrument. Of the 10,003 people, 60% were males while 40% were females. This population was spread over 68 occupations sectors with 64% being from the informal and self-employed sector while students constituted 23% of the studied audience.

IIM Rohtak said the listeners liked the communication style of the Prime Minister and felt what he shared in the program was empathetic and decisive.

What are the most liked characteristics of the PM?

  • Knowledgeable
  • Sets an emotional connect
  • Decisive
  • Sympathetic and empathetic
  • Direct interaction with citizens

The most popular themes of Mann Ki Baat as per the Survey are:

  • Scientific Achievements of India
  • Common Citizen Stories
  • Gallant of Armed Forces
  • Youth Related Issues
  • Environment and Natural Resources related issues

“Sixty per cent have shown interest in working for nation-building, 55 per cent affirm becoming a responsible citizen of the nation, 63 per cent feel that their approach towards the government has become positive while 59 per cent feel that their trust in the government has increased, 58 per cent expressed that their living conditions have improved while 73 per cent feel optimistic about the government’s working and country’s progress,” the survey said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was one of his unique attempts to connect with the masses after coming to power in May 2014.

While people listened to the radio occasionally and preferred FM stations, PM Modi brought the focus of the nation back to the national broadcaster All India Radio (AIR). Mann ki Baat became the talk of the town with its monthly broadcast. Scores of people would wait in anticipation of the program to hear what PM Modi will talk about that month.

Last month, it came to light that the program fetched almost 5 times in revenue than the amount spent on advertising and promotions for the show.

Not just Anand Mohan, 26 other criminals to be out of jail as Bihar modifies jail manuals: Read who all are released by Bihar govt’s order

0

The Bihar state government’s law department on Monday issued the order paving the way for the release of former MP Anand Mohan and 26 others, who have served 14 years of a life sentence in connection with the murder and other heinous crimes. This came ten days after the Bihar government amended the Bihar Police Jail Manuals, 2012, removing some words from a clause regarding life sentences.

The State Sentence Remission Council’s approval of the release of all 27 inmates, who were housed in separate jails around the state, served as the basis for the state law department’s order. Anand Mohan, who was most recently incarcerated at Saharsa Prison, was on parole so that he could attend an engagement ceremony for his son.

Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav could also be seen attending the engagement function of jailed Anand Mohan Singh’s son and RJD MLA Chetan Anand. Reportedly, this is the third time in the last six months that Anand Mohan has been allowed release on parole.

In 2007, Mohan, 69, was found guilty of killing Gopalganj district magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994. He was found guilty of instigating a crowd that was leading a protest march after the murder of bodybuilder Chhotan Shukla. When Krishnaiah accidentally crossed the protest march’s path, the crowd lynched him.

Because of the heinous nature of the crimes they had committed, 14-year-old prisoners were not recognized as having served a life sentence before the 2012 change to the Bihar Police Jail Manuals. To qualify as having served a life sentence, these criminals had to serve at least 20 years in prison.

“The state government has decided to set free those who have completed 14 years of their sentence on the recommendation the State Sentence Remission Council made its meeting on 20 April,” said Bihar Law Department Secretary Ramesh Chandra Malviya in his order on April 24.

However, the law department directive makes no further mention of any more precise justifications for its decision. Reports further mention that Anand Mohan has not been subjected to this condition in the law department’s decision, unlike others of the 27 criminals who are being freed who have been requested to record their regular attendance with the local police.

Merely five words—”a civil servant on duty”—were removed from Rule No. 481 (1) (a) of the Bihar Police Jail Manuals on April 10 this year by the state home department, which later made it easier for Mohan and others to be released.

Rule 481(i)(a) of the manual says: “Every convicted prisoner, whether male or female, undergoing sentence of life imprisonment and covered by the provisions of Section 433A CrPC, shall be eligible to be considered for premature release only after undergoing imprisonment for 20 years, including remissions:

a) Convicts who have been imprisoned for life for murder in heinous cases, such as murder with rape, murder with dacoity, murder involving an offence under the Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955, murder for dowry, murder of a child below 14 years of age, multiple murders, murder committed after a conviction while inside the prison, murder during parole, murder in a terrorist incident, murder in the smuggling operation, murder of a public servant on duty.”

The home department states that the decision has been taken to free the 27 prisoners considering their age which is between 75 to 93. “On the lower age group side, there are also convicts from the mid-20s to 50s age group. The idea to set them free was because of poor health conditions of the aged prisoners and also to give a second chance to the younger lot”, the department official was quoted.

The other prisoners who are to be released by the Bihar government include

Dasgir Khan (75),
Pappu Singh alias Rajiv Ranjan Singh (43),
Ashok Yadav (46),
Rajballabh Yadav alias Bijli Yadav (82),
Shivji Yadav (420),
Kirath Yadav (65),
Collector Paswan (40),
Kishundev Rai (65),
Surendra Sharma (68),
Devnandan Nonia (49),
Rampravesh Singh (69),
Vijay Singh (59),
Ramadhar Ram (50),
Patiram Ram (93),
Hridaynarayan Sharma (55),
Manoj Prasad (67),
Panchadand Paswan (43),
Jitendar Singh (78),
Bindeshwari Yadav (83),
Khelawan Yadav (85),
Allauddin Ansari (42),
Mohammed Khudbuddin (36),
Sikandar Mahto (44) and
Awadhesh Mandal (42).

OpIndia tried to dig into all these individual cases but very nominal information about the crimes of these prisoners seems to be available on the web. However, all these accused were arrested for alleged heinous crimes. Bihar’s former MLA Surendra Sharma was arrested for attempting to murder his daughter over her inter-caste marriage. He had given a contract of her murder to contract killer Abhishek Singh alias, Chhote Sarkar.

Ram Parvesh Singh is believed to be arrested under sections 302, 307, 379, 380, 435, 436, 427, 353, and some other sections of the Indian Penal Code, 27 Arms Act, 3/4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and 17 of Cr.L.A.Act in 2008. Former member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Rajballabh Yadav was booked for raping a minor girl at his home in the year 2016. On December 15, 2018, he was convicted of the offence under the POCSO Act 2012. He has since been suspended from the RJD. Meanwhile, JDU MLC Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav was arrested by the Police while attempting to save his son Rocky Yadav who shot dead a class XII student for overtaking his SUV in Gaya.

Mohan is expected to walk out of jail on April 27. However, information about the release of the rest 26 prisoners is yet to be attained.
