As Islamists run riots and take pride in violence against Hindus, elite Indian Muslims in India play the victim

“How can Hindus play a victim in a country where they are in a majority?” the ignorant comeback often paints a sordid picture of the tragedies the Hindus go through if at all they gather the courage to talk about it. The Hindus, devoid of the ‘national’ consciousness of existing as a civilization over millennia have been left as ‘global’ victims of hate, Islamic terrorism, liberal fundamentalism and leftist radicalisation today.

The Hindu exercises in self-assertion are vilified – be it the ‘communal’ saffron shawls against Burqas, which can be in turn be normalised as essential religious practices. But when the society opens itself for a greater discussion on the allowance of the Hijab, it is the Hindutva activist Harsha who is hacked to death in Shimmogga.

While the Hindus have been robbed of their right to self-identity, it turns out, they do not have the agency to be victims as well. At a time when Hindu festivals are terrorised with instances of stone-pelting, targeting and gun firing across the country, The Wire journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani was apparently not able to ‘Breathe’. Was Arfa Suffocated inside the echo chamber of lies and propaganda aimed at the vilification of Hindus? Turns out, No! She found an opportunity to shove her victim card as a ‘Muslim’ when it was the Hindu community who was being crushed in the communal cauldron for celebrating its festivals.

Tweet by Wire Journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani which was later deleted possibly due to a typo

In Jahangirpuri of Delhi, stones were pelted at a Hanuman Jayanti Shobhayatra on Saturday night after the procession supposedly passed through a ‘Muslim area’. Just the sight of the ‘Kafir’ Hindus evoking salutations to their ‘demi-god’ was so atrocious, that the severe neurological instinct to pick up the closest stone and throw it onto the lesser civilized heathens was charged in some. But it was now time for Sherwani to sit inside her ‘The Wire’ office at Gole Market in central Delhi to do her part.

The room was lit, with books stuffed in every corner possible. Arfa Khanum Sherwani, dressed in her richly pressed fab India cotton saree sat on a chair with a folded leg in poise. The camera rolled as ‘eminent historian’ Ramchandra Guha, in another room full of books, appeared on the window next to Arfa. The Wire went live with the two discussing how the ‘Saffron shade of Hindutva is communalizing the merely existing secular fabric of the nation after independence.’ Stripping off the context, Khanum stressed upon Saffron flags being attached atop the mosques to the economic boycott of the Muslims. The Islamist perpetrators were to be whitewashed, whereas the Hindu reactionary response was to be slagged as communal.

At the same time, the repeated instances of stone-pelting on Hindu processions were to be sophisticatedly wrapped as just another instance of ‘communal tension’ fulled by the Hindu extremists who dared to enter a Muslim-majority area.

The hegemony in mainstream media was not enough that the agenda peddlers have found a new window on social media to set their narrative against the Hindus. The thumb rules remain the same – one community has the right to be omnipresent victims as far as the Indian state thrives. At the same time, the Hindu victims of hate are to be either sidelined as normal law-and-order cases or are to be trampled under the kosher narrative of indefinite Muslim victimhood whatsoever.

“This Ramzan has been a testing time for the 220 million Indian Muslims,” tweeted Rana Ayyub who is determined to repeat her lie of ‘Muslim persecution in India’ until it is accepted in the post-truth world. Ayyub, who must be willfully incognizant of the story of Ramzan must hear this – that in the run-up to the holy month, the open calls of ‘Azaadi’ and ‘Allahu Akbar’ (There is no greater god than Allah) were given against the Hindus and Indian state by terrorists. The month kicked off with rising Jihadi tensions in Kashmir rising in the cases of killings and attacks on Hindu temples.

The stone-pelting attacks in Kashmir which are normalised as ‘acts of Azaadi’ by many commentators, snowballed as a pattern that followed all over the subcontinent. Stones, gun shells, and bottles were fired by Muslim mobs at Hindu processions taken out on Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti from Jahangirpuri in Delhi to Khargone in Madhya Pradesh to Kurnool in Andhra. Yet, Ayyub finds it as a case of violent persecution of Muslims in India. Radio Jockey Sayema found it pertinent to blame the violence on Hindus on the ‘Dharam Sansads’ instead.

Sensationalism drives the economy of the Indian Left, whereas intellectualisation of the Jihadi mindset thrives under it. Under the veil of secularism, a section of entitled Muslim commentators has gone from being hardcore enablers of Islamists to rabid footsoldiers of Islamism. An extremist Jihadi on a faraway street had a stone in one hand, while the agenda drivers have now bestowed upon him a victim card in his other hand. In times of Hindu calamity, the propagandists have found a space for Muslim victimhood.

Gone are the days when Hinduphobia was a Twitter trend, the times have changed to what we see as pure, blatant Hindu hatred holding the country under its toes. Meanwhile, the omnipresence of the Muslim victimhood looks as immortal as Hanuman, a deity who symbolised resistance and resolution of Hindus to stand up against hate amidst the communal chaos directed at them.

Jahangirpuri violence: Police team visiting the house of accused Sonu and Salim attacked, DCP says it was ‘minor incident’

On Monday (April 18), a Delhi police team reportedly came under attack from the family members after they visited Jahangirpuri at the residence of accused Mohammed Sonu Chikna, who had opened fire at cops during the Hanuman Jayanti ‘Shobha Yatra’ two days ago.

As per reports, the other family members hurled stones at the police team that was visiting the house of accused Sonu. Despite the stone pelting, the cops detained the accused’s wife for interrogation, as per reports.

LawBeat reported that one person has been detained for attacking the police team that had visited Sonu’s house.

It must be mentioned that Mohammed Sonu Chikna has been on the run from the law enforcement authorities since Saturday (April 16). He is a resident of Jahangipuri C-Block and originally hails from West Bengal. Following the untoward incident, police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployment has been increased in Jahangirpuri.

It is notable here that while Sonu was caught on camera firing gunshots during the violence, his brother is one of the accused in the stone-pelting case too. Sonu’s brother Salim has been arrested while Sonu has been absconding.

Police say it was a one-off incident, a minor attack on the visiting police team

Additional DCP Mayank Bansal did not provide any details when inquired about the stone-pelting incident. “The recent media report of fresh stone pelting is an exaggeration of facts. It was a minor, one-off incident. Legal action is being taken. One person has been detained,” tweeted DCP North West Delhi.

Mother of Sonu Chikna cries before media, says Sonu fired just because he got angry

The mother of Sonu Chikna has admitted her son fired gunshots during the Jahangirpuri violence and has also identified that the man seen firing is indeed her son Sonu. In a report by Aaj Tak, she alleged that her son was arrested for no reason, and that he picked up the gun to ‘support his community’ during the violence.

She had remarked, “My son has a chicken shop. He was about to open Roza when tension between Hindus and Muslims erupted, and he went out. He does not own a gun. He snatched the gun from someone and fired shots as he was angry. No one was injured. They were threatening us. My son just wanted to scare them off. Someone with a personal grudge shot the video and made it viral.”

Jangipuri violence during Hanuman Jayanti

On Saturday (April 16), a Hanuman Jayanti procession was attacked by Islamists in the Jahangarapuri area of Delhi. According to the FIR, the procession was moving peacefully. However, when it approached the Jama Masjid in C Block at 6 PM, a man named Ansar approached the procession with some of his companions and initiated an argument.

The dispute quickly escalated into stone-pelting, resulting in a stampede in the procession. According to the FIR, police attempted to take control of the situation, but a specific segment of the mob disregarded the orders and intensified the sloganeering and set ablaze some vehicles. The crowd kept pelting stones and glass bottles at the procession.

88, including the husband of AIMIM councilor, arrested for stone-pelting in Karnataka’s Hubli over a social media post

Following the stone-pelting violence in Karnataka’s Hubli over a social media post, police have arrested 88 people, including the husband of the AIMIM councilor from the city. Earlier, angered over a social media post, an enraged mob had pelted stones at the old Hubli police station, a nearby temple, and a hospital.

After the rampaging mob injured a few policemen and damaged several police vehicles, section 144 was imposed in the city to curb the violence. Police Commissioner Labhu Ram had informed that four policemen including one inspector were injured during the violence.

While around 40 people were arrested during the course of the investigation on Sunday, the number of arrests has now risen to 88. Among the arrested is the husband of an AIMIM councilor from the city, the party run by Muslim hardliner Asaduddin Owaisi.

Chief Minister of Karnataka has alleged designs of a bigger conspiracy behind the attacks. He has suggested that the attacks could be pre-planned and the organizations involved in the violence should remember that strict action will be taken against them for disturbing the law and order situation. By far, six different cases have been registered against the violators who are detained. The investigation into the case is underway.

The violence at Hubli was not an isolated instance of stone-pelting in the country this Hanuman Jayanti. Similar events in different contexts have taken place in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri and Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool when Hanuman Jayanti shobha yatras came under stone-pelting attacks.

Islamists and ‘liberals’ attack Tehseen Poonawalla for asking Muslims to condemn violence against Hindus: What it tells about their mentality

A spectre of horrifying riots was witnessed last week in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri after a Hindu procession to mark the Hanuman Jayanti came under attack when it approached the Jama Masjid in the region, triggering an ugly bout of violence that left at least nine injured.

An FIR filed in the case said when the procession approached the Jama Masjid in C Block at 6 PM, a man named Ansar approached the procession with some of his companions and initiated an argument. This dispute quickly devolved into stone-pelting, resulting in a stampede in the procession. According to the FIR, police attempted to take control of the situation, but a specific segment of the mob disregarded the orders and intensified the sloganeering and set ablaze some vehicles. The crowd kept pelting stones and glass bottles at the procession.

The mob also fired gunshots in which Sub Inspector Medha Lal Meena got injured after a bullet in his hand. Inspector Rajeev Ranjan, the key informant whose information was used to file the complaint, indicated that the entire programme was peaceful until some anti-social members interrupted the procession and began rioting. The FIR has been registered under provisions 147 (Rioting), 148 (Armed rioting), 186 (Obstructing duty of public servant), 353 (Assault on public servant), 307 (Attempt to murder), 427 (damage to property), and 436 (Attack by explosives) of the Indian penal code along with section 27 of the Arms Act 1959.

Several videos are viral on social media in which the mob can be seen flashing swords and other weapons along with chanting slogans of Allahu Akbar. However, as has been the case, Islamists and apologists were quick to defend the rioters, accusing the Hindus who were part of the procession of “provoking” the other side to respond with violence, vandalism and arson.

This, of course, has been the modus operandi of the apologists, who have mastered the pernicious practice of pushing the blame of any untoward incident on the victims in their bid to shield the Islamists. Many eminent ‘liberals’ pushed this perverted narrative that residents in the Muslim-dominated region of Jahangirpuri were pushed to the wall by the procession participants that violence and rioting were inevitable.

Poonawalla calls on Muslims to condemn violence and celebrate Hindu festivals

However, there were some who refrained from being apologists of rioters who attacked the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. Tehseen Poonawalla, a regular fixture on news debate and brother-in-law of Robert Vadra, recently penned a Twitter thread emphasising the need for Muslims to issue an unqualified condemnation of the attacks witnessed during the Hindu festivals. He called for every single Muslim leader, entrepreneur, and influencer to publicly denounce the communal riots taking place during Hindu festivals.

He further called for condemnation of those who stereotype Muslims who participate in news debates donning a skull cap and sporting a beard and polarise society with their incendiary rhetorics. “These jokers have an agenda and they DO NOT REPRESENT MUSLIMS! Tv channels must be told NOT to call them,” Tehseen tweeted.

As a show of support to Hindus, Tehseen urged Muslims to take to the streets and join “Hindu brothers and sisters” in celebrating their Hindu festivals. He asked Muslims to celebrate with Hindus and to invite Hindus to celebrate with them. “Do not let those who want to demonize Muslims & create a divide win,” Tehseen added.

Islamists and ‘liberals’ attack Tehseen Poonawalla for his tweets calling on Muslims to issue an unequivocal condemnation of violence during Hindu festivals

However, this did not sit well with Islamists and ‘liberals’, who were quick to attack Tehseen for asking Muslims to condemn violence witnessed during the celebrations of Hindu festivals.

“This is an absolute BS take, state-sponsored acts of vandalism designed to provoke cannot be countered by cookie-cutter politics,” said a Twitter user while quoting Tehseen’s Twitter thread on why Muslims should denounce violence taking place during Hindu festivals.

Opposition to Tehseen also came from predictable quarters as one journalist who had worked for far-left propaganda website The Wire got embroiled in a war of words with Tehseen over the latter’s views on why Muslims should participate in celebrating Hindu festivals. The journalist, Samriddhi Sakunia, equated “taking to streets during Hindu festivals’ as akin to “desh me rehna hoga Jai Shri Ram kehna hoga”.

Tehseen countered her saying that all his life, he and his wife have celebrated Hindu festivals and that there was a need to defeat the fanatics. But, Samriddhi ploughed on, adding that all Hindus are not secular and that the argument of ‘fanatics’ was really problematic.

There were others who did not mind using unparliamentary language to oppose Tehseen’s views. Perpetuating the victimhood narrative, one social media user said the existence of Muslims is at stake and this “a**hole” wants Muslims to come out and take moral responsibility to maintain harmony while the Hindutva mob is on a bloodthirst drive.

Several other Islamists slammed Tehseen Poonawalla for asking Muslims to condemn the violence during the Hindu festivals

What reactions to Tehseen’s tweets reveal about the Islamist mentality

The strident criticism of Tehseen Poonawalla for his Twitter thread asking Muslims to condemn wanton acts of violence during Hindu festivals betrays the unrepentant attitude of Islamists towards rioting and vandalism witnessed during the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations. Far from being apologetic and regretful about the violence, the Islamists and their ‘liberal’ allies were perfectly fine with what transpired in Jahangirpura on Saturday.

Moreover, they even went ahead to rationalise the orgy of violence as a response to “provocation” caused by the Hindu procession. This is a cunning argument propped up by the Islamists and left-leaning liberals to defend attacks on processions on Hindu festivals because what constitutes a “provocation” is a subjective matter and incredibly difficult to be quantified. Therefore, by blaming Hindus for the violence, they are essentially absolving the rioters and vandals who went on a rampage on the streets of Delhi on Saturday evening.

For instance, for some folks, the existence of another faith in itself could be “provocative”, prompting them to take up violence against adherents of that faith. For others, who harbour deep resentment and pathological hatred towards a religion and its followers, processions or perhaps loudspeakers used in those processions provide a justifiable reason for them to be “provoked” to indulge in violence. Thus, the blame is shifted on the victims for ”instigating” the culprits into responding with violence.

Apparently, for the very same folks the 2002 Sabarmati Train burning incident in Gujarat’s Godhra did not constitute a “provocation” that triggered a gruesome wave of riots in its wake. Instead, they continue to fuel conspiracy theories that the Gujarat riots were planned in advance to persecute the state’s minority Muslims.

And lastly, the vigorous opposition to Tehseen’s tweets calling for Muslims to celebrate Hindu festivals and denounce violence reveals the disdain of Islamists for India’s pluralistic ethos. Such attacks and their appalling justification reaffirms the belief that the burden of upholding secularism in India rests solely on Hindus, who are expected to open their temple doors to namazis, keep iftar parties for Muslims to break their fasts, while the other side continues to attack Hindu temples, establishments and disrupt Hindu processions on the flimsy grounds of being the victims of “provocations”.

‘He just got angry and fired a gun, he is innocent, it was Roza breaking time’: Mother of Jahangirpuri violence accused

The Mother of Sonu Chikna and Salim Chikna has admitted her son had fired gunshots during the Jahangirpuri violence. In a report by Aaj Tak, the mother of the firing accused Salim Chikna said her son was arrested for no reason, and he picked up the gun to ‘support his community’ during the violence.

She said, “He was arrested for no reason. Everyone will tell you he was arrested without committing any mistake.” The reporter then took the photograph of the accused and asked her if she could identify him. She admitted that it was her son Sonu.

When asked where her family came to Delhi, she said that they have come from West Bengal. She alleged Police was not telling his family why her son was arrested. The reporter then questioned what his son was doing among the rioters.

She said, “My son has a chicken shop.

Sonu’s brother Salim has already been arrested by the Police. Her mother further claimed his son was not involved in the riots. He picked up the gun to support his community. Sonu’s mother was also approached by ABP News. As per its report, she said, “He came back after the violence. He was scared and ran off. He does not have any case registered against him. He is a five-time Namazi. He never fights with anyone.”

Video of Sonu Chikna firing shots surfaced

On April 17, it was reported that videos of Sonu Chikna surfaced on social media platforms where he could see firing shots during Jahangirpuri Riots in Delhi. Several other people, along with small kids, can be seen pelting stones in the video. The violence happened in the Jahahgirpuri locality during a Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra, which was attacked as it passed a Masjid in the region’s C Block. Gunshots were also fired in the incident, injuring a Delhi Police Sub Inspector, Medha Lal Meena.

‘Liquor and bones thrown at Ram Darbar idols, police were helpless in front of naked swords’: Devotee injured in Jahangirpuri riots shares the spine-chilling experience

On the day of Hanuman Jayanti (April 16), a Shobha Yatra in Jahangirpuri in Delhi came under a severe attack while passing through a Muslim-dominated area. The rioters pelted stones at the procession and even fired bullets as the violence escalated. In the attack, several devotees and some police personnel also got injured.

OpIndia spoke to Rakesh Beniwal, one of the victims of the riots, who narrated the spine-chilling experience of that day. He said that following the stone-pelting, a mob of at least 500 rioters attacked the Shobha Yatra with naked swords in their hands. They were raising slogans of “Allah Hu Akbar”.

Beniwal said, “We had informed the Police that it was a sensitive area. A lot of force was deployed in the region. However, there were so many rioters that the Police became helpless in front of them. The rioters were all over the streets as well as the roof of the mosque in the area. They had empty glass bottles, filled bottles, and stones with them.”

“At around 6 PM, the Shobha Yatra reached in front of the mosque. There were chants of Jai Shri Ram. Suddenly, they started pelting stones, and there was a stampede. The rioters came from the Idgah side and shouted slogans ‘Allah Hu Akbar’. They pelted stones on the saints and the children who were part of the Shobha Yatra”, he added.

He questioned if Hindus were at fault as they chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’. “The administration has been active after the statements were issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. We are alive only because of the Police,” said Beniwal.

He added rioters were equipped with guns and fired several rounds. The police personnel stationed for security also sustained bullet and sword injuries. Beniwal said that it was a pre-planned conspiracy. “Earlier, when we took out Shobha Yatra in Jahangirpuri, they would tell us to lower the volume, which we used to do and pass through the area. This time, there were a lot of people gathered on the roofs of the mosque and houses adjacent to the mosque. Around 400-500 people had really sharp swords in their hands”, he said recalling that dreadful day.

Beniwal said people were claiming Ansar was involved in the riots. He said, “I was attacked with a knife from behind. Liquor bottles and bones were thrown at Ram Darbar. They were pelting stones from a height of 40 feet.”

Jahagirpuri riots

On April 16, Islamists attacked Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra in Jahangirpuri, Delhi. Several people were injured, including police personnel. So far, 40 people have been arrested by the Police in the case, including prime accused Ansar and Aslam. There have been allegations that Ansar is an Aam Aadmi Party member, the party is yet to respond to the same.

Jahangirpuri riots: Police, crime branch begins probe into large conspiracy angle, shocked at the quick mobilisation of arms and weapons by mob

On Sunday (April 17), the Delhi police informed that they are investigating the angle of a larger conspiracy in connection to the deadly violence that took place in Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, reported Times of India.

The police have arrested 23 people so far, many of whom have criminal histories. The cops are probing whether the primary accused, Ansar and Anslam, are connected to the violent anti-CAA protests and the 2020 Anti-Hindu Delhi riots.

The police are also tracing Rohingyas, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and local criminals, who participated in the orgy of violence and pelted stones at the ‘Shobha yatra’ procession. Citing sources, The Times of India reported that the police had to widen the scope of investigation after witnessing the quick mobilisation of arms and weapons by the attacking mob.

“Some recovered communication also indicated that a plan to disrupt the yatra was in the works for two days. Many of the accused, including, Ansar had left their phones at home to hide their location, sources said,” the report added.

The Delhi police crime branch has been roped in to probe the riot conspiracy. Two teams have been constituted for the purpose. Special Commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav had said, “District Police and Crime Branch are jointly investigating the matter.”

The Times of India spoke to intelligence sources, who informed that the investigating authorities are trying to find a ‘pattern of violence’ between the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations and the stone pelting on Ram Navami processions.

“While the incident of violence in the capital was localised, investigators are looking to establish what triggered a mob to target a religious procession when similar processions had passed off peacefully in the morning,” the report emphasised.

In a statement, the Delhi police told the Rohini District Court, “This violence was not a mere coincidence but a conspiracy. On April 15, accused Ansar and Aslam came to know that a procession was to be held and they had hatched the plot.” Meanwhile, the central agencies are also probing connections with the recent violence in Karauli (Rajasthan) and Khargone (Madhya Pradesh).

Permission to be taken for playing Hanuman Chalisa, not allowed within 100 meters of a mosque, Nashik police issues diktat to ‘maintain law and order’

Amidst the ongoing controversy over the use of loudspeakers in mosques in Maharashtra, the Nashik police commissioner Deepak Pandey has issued a directive banning Hanuman Chalisa or any other bhajans without taking due permission from the authorities. According to news agency ANI, Pandey further stated that people will not be permitted to play bhajans for 15 minutes on either side of the Azaan, nor will they be permitted to do so within 100 metres of any mosque. He stated that this decision has been taken to maintain law and order in the city.

He further added that all religious places have been directed to take permission for use of loudspeakers by May 3. After May 3, legal action would be taken against those found violating the order, said Pandey.

The Nashik police have mentioned only Hanuman Chalisa and Bhajans, and no such time and area restriction has been mentioned for Azaan.

Azaan vs Hanuman Chalisa row in Maharashtra

Recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray had asked the state government to remove loudspeakers from the mosques in the state.

On April 2, 2022, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, while addressing the annual Gudi Padwa gathering at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, had warned in his aggressive style that if the government is not going to do anything about the loudspeakers in the mosques, he will put loudspeakers in front of the mosques and play a recital of Hanuman Chalisa. He had also underlined the changing demographics of Mumbai and other places of Maharashtra and alleged that so many Muslims from Bangladesh have come and settled there.

Following the announcement, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) played ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ at high decibels from loudspeakers that are installed at its office in Ghatkopar in Mumbai.

In response to MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s statement on removing loudspeakers from mosques, PFI Mumbra President Matim Shekhani stated during a protest on Friday, “Chhedenge to chodenge nahi” (we will not spare you if you tease us). He had added, “some people are trying to disrupt peace. Some have problems with Azaan while some have issues with madrassas and mosques. PFI wants peace, but don’t provoke us otherwise we won’t spare you. If any mosques, madrassa or loudspeaker is touched, PFI will lead the struggle.

After the matter came to light, the Mumbai Police had registered a case against Shekhani for holding a meeting without permission and making inflammatory speeches.

Madhya Pradesh govt to rehabilitate Haseena Fakhroo who used govt grant to encroach land, media falsely claimed her house was demolished for stone-pelting

The Madhya Pradesh government has reached out to Haseena Fakhroo, the resident of Khargone with the intention of rehabilitating the family. On April 13, OpIndia clarified how, contrary to claims made by various media houses, Haseena Fakhroo’s house was demolished by the district administration because it was built illegally using the PMAY grant.

The Indian Express reported on April 18 that on Saturday afternoon (April 16), officials from the district administration and the Nagar Nigam paid a visit to Fakhroo and her family, who had taken refuge in an abandoned mosque nearby. After giving them ration, officials took the thumb impressions from Haseena’s family members and informed them that they would be relocated to a multiplex.

Interestingly, The Indian Express was one of the first media houses to report the misleading claim that Haseena’s house, made under PMAY, was demolished as a consequence of the action against stone-pelting miscreants.

“They (the officials) first told us they will shift us to a multiplex, but that building is in a communal area, so we refused. Then the team asked us where our old house was. We told them we have been living in Khaskhaswadi for three decades, but they still went around with locals searching for our house in different localities,” Haseena Fakhroo’s son Amjad Khan was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

It may be recalled that recently, the report of the demolition of the house of one Haseena Fakhroo, which was reportedly built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or PMAY (Urban), had drawn a lot of media attention. Many media houses, jumped on the news that the PMAY house had been demolished as a result of the action against stone-pelting miscreants. A report by The Indian Express categorically mentioned the same. Questions were raised about why such a house, which was built through a government programme, is being scrutinised.

Te report by The Indian Express published on April 13

Notably, this news had started doing the rounds after the Khargone administration, on April 11, took strict action against the miscreants who had pelted stones at the Ram Navami procession on Sunday. The illegally constructed buildings and homes of the perpetrators were bulldozed by the administration.

OpIndia had reported on April 13, how the claims being made by media houses like The Indian Express were completely misleading because the house of Haseena Fakhroo was not demolished because of the stone-pelting incident, it was bulldozed because it was built illegally using the PMAY grant.

The administration had already issued an advance notice and the house was demolished accordingly. According to the administration, the house was built on encroached land, and that’s why it was demolished.

The notice sent to owner Haseena Fakroo, which was sent to her on April 7, 2020 – three days prior to the Ram Navami violence, specifically mentioned that the land upon on which the ‘kaccha’ (temporary) house was built was encroached.

The Tehsil Court further stated that after three days from receiving the letter, the house should be freed and this should be informed to the court in writing. The notice stated that if the same is not abided by, the administration would take charge of the land in the official ways. After the notice period ended on April 10, the enquiry on Haseena Fakhroo’s house kicked off while the administration decided to demolish the encroached occupation in the form of the house.

Therefore, the demolition of this particular house built using the PMAY fund had no link with the houses of stone pelters which were also demolished. Both the demolitions just took place at the same time, and the media used that to publish false and misleading claims.

Moreover, while the recent tehsil court had notified that the construction by Haseena Fakhroo is an encroachment, it underlined that the due process of land acquisition under PMAY was not followed by her. Similarly, eleven other homes in the vicinity had attracted the same action. This seemed like a clear case of land grabbing, while money was collected from a government scheme for the same.

BJP president JP Nadda blames the opposition for fueling communal tensions a day after they signed a letter for communal harmony

On April 18, Bharatiya Janata Party President Jagat Prakash Nadda wrote a letter to the nation in which he blamed the opposition for fueling communal tensions in the country. His letter came a day after the opposition had signed a letter for communal harmony.

In his letter, Nadda said while India is celebrating 75 years of Independence and the ruling party has dusted and rusted the approach to vote bank politics, divisive politics, and selective politics, the opposition parties were bitter. He said such ‘rejected and dejected’ parties are taking refuge in vote bank and divisive politics.

Nadda pointed out several instances where opposition parties fueled or turned blind eyes towards communal violence when they were in power. He pointed out how, in November 1966, then-PM Indira Gandhi had ordered firing at Hindu Sadhus, who were protesting against cow slaughter. Nadda mentioned the infamous speech of former PM Rajiv Gandhi where he said, “When a big tree falls, the earth shakes”, justifying the massacre of Sikhs posts PM Indira Gandhi’s assassination.
