Although India has administered over 106 crore Coronavirus vaccine doses, teachers from Kerala continue to exhibit vaccine hesitancy, reportedThe Indian Express.
On Saturday (October 30), Kerala’s Education Minister V Sivankutty informed that about 2,282 teachers in the State had not been vaccinated against the Wuhan Coronavirus. He informed that a large number of such teachers had cited their ‘religious Faith’ as a reason for not being vaccinated. Sivankutty emphasised that teachers, who did not get their jab, will not be allowed to take physical classes after schools reopen on November 1.
He pointed out, “A section of them have cited health reasons such as allergy, while others are keeping away from Covid-19 vaccine in the name of faith. The government wants all teachers to take vaccine shots considering the future of students. But we are not going to issue any order. It is better such teachers keep away from the school premises and they can take online classes.”
Kerala has over 20,000 non-teaching staff and 1.60 lakh teachers. The State government had made vaccination compulsory for all teaching and non-teaching staff. It is of the view that such a government directive will prevent Coronavirus outbreaks and works as a bio-bubble. As of Sunday (October 31), Kerala has administered a total of 3.89 crore vaccine doses, with 1.36 crore individuals fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Recent surveys have showed that significant chunks of the Muslim population do not trust vaccines and vaccination rates for the community was far lesser than that for Hindus.

Virat Kohli fans have been on an abuse-spree after social media users disagreed with the Indian captain’s comments on the Mohammad Shami controversy. People were angry over the fact that Virat Kohli, unwittingly or otherwise, had aided in the campaign to malign India’s reputation when it has been established that the campaign of abuse against Shami was led by Pakistanis.
In one instance, fans of the Indian captain abused a Twitter user and targeted his 7 year old son because the user disagreed with Virat Kohli. Women have also been abused by his fans for disagreeing with Kohli.
On Saturday (October 30), BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party in West Bengal had sent over 1200 leaders and workers to participate in a sit-in demonstration in Tripura. He had accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of importing hardened criminals, involved in post-poll violence in West Bengal, to the neighbouring State.
In a tweet, the BJP leader wrote, “Demonstrators seen at TMC sit-in protest in Tripura are Shamim Ahmed & his underlings from Sarisha; Diamond Harbour. His name features in the post-poll violence NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) report.” Adhikari further added, “TMC scums are on political tourism to flaunt fake headcounts as people of Tripura have kept a safe distance.”

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had submitted its report to the Calcutta High Court on July 14 regarding the post-poll violence in West Bengal. The statutory public body said in its report that, after visiting 311 spots in 20 days and carrying out an extensive inquiry in the matter, the seven-member committee constituted to probe the post-poll violence in West Bengal concluded that the current situation of the state is a manifestation of ‘Law of Ruler’, instead of ‘Rule of Law’. It added that the loss of faith in state administration among victims was very evident.
Attaching details of the same, the NHRC report stated that it collected a whopping 1979 number of complaints from 23 districts where incidents of violence had taken place post-Mamata Banerjee’s May 2 victory. Most complaints were from Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Bardhaman, North 24 Parganas and Kolkata and most of them were related to rape, molestation, and vandalism. NHRC had received them through their local sources in West Bengal. The statutory body added that a list of 57 complaints related to women was received from the National Women Commission.
Delhi University has decided to name upcoming colleges after Hindutva stalwart Veer Savarkar and the late BJP leader and Union Minister Sushma Swaraj. The Delhi University vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh informed during the meeting of the executive council held on Friday that two future colleges of Delhi University will be named after them.
The DU administration has also allotted two chunks of land at Najafgarh and Fatehpur Beri for the establishment of the two colleges. DU wanted to set up new colleges in the Delhi dehat area since in the last 25 years, no new colleges fully funded by the Central Government came up in the NCT Delhi.
Seema Das, an executive council member told the media members of the executive council were informed that in the previous meeting a pool of names was suggested for the new college. “During the meeting on Friday, when a member sought an update on the development, we were told that these two names were finalised,” Das said.
The idea to set up new colleges and name them after noted Indian personalities were taken during the academic council meeting of the university held on August 22 this year. During the further discussion, some names that were proposed for the college included Veer Savarkar, Sushma Swaraj, Swami Vivekananda, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Savitri Bai Phule, Arun Jaitley, Choudhary Brahm Prakash and CD Deshmukh. The council authorised the VC to select the name.
However, some like Rajpal Singh Pawar in the DU executive council who have known political association, opposed the decision to name the colleges Veer Savarkar and Sushma Swaraj. He objected saying that the shortlisted people are associated with a ‘particular ideology’.
BA K Bhagi, President of National Democratic Teachers Front and former member of the executive council, welcomed the decision if the new colleges are set up in name of great historical luminaries, unsung heroes.
“It will be a good decision to name or construct new colleges in name of great historical luminaries, unsung heroes. I welcome the proposal of the DU and when it finally comes up it will be a great contribution towards the enhancement of the new education policy which comes after 1986. A women college in the name of a greatly respected leader Sushma Swaraj will keep motivating country to realise the goal of Beti Bachao, Beti Bachao,” Bhagi stated.
Kunal Sehrawat, president of Delhi NSUI, the student wing of the Congress party, had threatened to further insult and resort to vandalism if a college is named after Veer Savarkar.
On Saturday (October 30), a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reportedly caught hold of a Bangladeshi national who came to cast his vote during the West Bengal bypoll. The incident took place in the Khardah Vidhan Sabha constituency in North 24 Parganas district of the State.
Hindustan Times reported that BJP candidate Joy Saha apprehended a ‘fake voter’ in Khardah and handed him over to the police. “The man is a Bangladeshi infiltrator. He came here to cast his vote in favour of the TMC,” Saha was quoted as saying. He has also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) about the incident.
While speaking about the matter, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted, “Bangladeshi voter hailing from Dhaka caught voting for TMC in Bengal bypoll. Seems TMC knows it that native voters of West Bengal aren’t going to vote for Mamata Banerjee anymore.” He further added, “Wonder if the next election will witness TMC importing voters from Pakistan to rig Bengal elections?”

In the video clip shared by Amit Malviya, a man in red T-shirt was seen nodding in affirmation when asked about his Bangladeshi origins. On being asked as to why did he come to the polling booth, he replied, “I have made a mistake.” The man then confessed that he hails from Dhaka. Meanwhile, the media persons continued to quiz him as to how he infiltrated into the Indian territory. A man in the background could be heard as saying, “Trinamool Congress is fudging the elections by bringing a voter from Bangladesh. There is nothing more shameful than this.”
The Assam Police have arrested 10 Bangladeshi nationals at the Assam-Tripura border at Churaibari under the Bazaricherra police watchpost since Friday. Reportedly, the Bangladeshis were coming from Dharmanagar in Tripura.
The Bangladeshis were arrested during routine check-ups vehicles are subjected to over three separate occasions. According to Assam Tribune, police sources have said that the arrested Bangladeshis admitted that they were on their way to South India, where they work in restaurants.
The illegal immigrants revealed that they work in various cities in South India and have traveled there from the Barak Valley before. They said that they entered India through a link man in Tripura. Manoranjan Sinha, Bazaricherra police watchpost incharge, said that the Bangladeshis were on their way to work in Chennai and failed to produced any authentic documents during the search.
Meanwhile, one Bidhan Chandra Das, suspected to be a linkman in Ratabari, has also been arrested for helping them enter India illegally. The arrested Bangladeshis have been identified as Sohail Ahmed, Abdul Gafur, Najma Begum, Sofira Akhtar, Alia Begum, Fatima Akhta, Rajesh Sheikh, Asabul Sheikh, Sanaullah Ankhi and Kawsar Hussain. All of them are in their 20s, with most of them in their early 20s and most of them are residents of Rajshahi and Khulna in Bangladesh.
The accused were produced before the Karimganj District Court in Assam. A remand of 10 days was sought by the Police over the matter.
It is pertinent to note that there have been communal tensions recently in Tripura. A Kali Mandir was vandalised recently in Kailashahar and at Kadamtala in Dharmanagar, Hindu homes, shops and vehicles were targeted by people from the other community.
Fans of Virat Kohli are targeting a Twitter user and his 7 year old son because the user disagreed with the Indian captain’s comments on the Mohammad Shami controversy. It has been well documented that the religious abuses towards Shami came from extremely dubious accounts that were created very recently and some that had their origins in Pakistan. It is believed that the entire objective of it was to defame India.
Thus, when Virat Kohli validated the campaign to defame India through his comments at the press conference, Twitter user Gappistan Radio lashed out at him for the same. The comment, borne out of obvious frustration with Kohli’s antics even before his comments on Saturday, attracted a torrent of abuse from the cricketer’s fans. It is pertinent to note that even before Saturday, Kohli had come under criticism for attempting to preach sermons during Diwali.
The ardent fan of Indian Cricket, anguished and heartbroken over Kohli’s comments, lamented, “Kohli condemning abuse of Shami after it had been shown that no Indian abused Shami and it was a Pakistan project, this Indian team can f*ck of (sic) to be honest…. Hope Kane Williamson ends this painful tournament tomorrow…”
As is obvious, it was a comment made in the heat of the moment. But that is not how Kohli’s fans saw it. They unleashed a series of outrageous abuses which soon escalated into threats against the user’s 7 year old son.
Gappistan Radio shared a screenshot of comments made on Instagram on the photo of his 7 year old son. The comments contained unspeakable abuses from a fan of Virat Kohli, directed at the child himself.

Gappistan Radio also said that a fan of the Indian cricketer was also sending him photos of his son, which came across as a not-so-subtle threat.

The Twitter user said that he had to disable his account on Instagram due to the abuses he was receiving from fans of Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli speaks up on Mohammad Shami controversy
Earlier, Virat Kohli had said, “To me attacking someone over their religion is the most, I would say, pathetic thing that a human being can do. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion and what they feel about certain situations, but I personally have never ever even thought of discriminating [against] anyone over their religion. That is a very sacred and personal thing to every human being and that should be left there.”
He had said further, “They have no understanding of the fact that someone like Mohammed Shami has won India ‘n’ number of matches in the last few years and he’s been our primary bowler with Jasprit Bumrah when it comes to making an impact in games in Test cricket. I mean, if people can overlook that and his passion for the country, I honestly don’t even want to waste one minute of my life to give any attention to those people. Neither does Shami and neither does anyone else in the team. We stand by him fully. We are backing him 200 percent, and all those who have attacked him can come with more force if they want to: our brotherhood, our friendship within the team, nothing can be shaken.”
About social media critics, Kohli stated, “There’s a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person.” While the Indian captain did not specifically mention that the section of users he was referring to are Indians, his comments leave little room for doubt.
People on social media were angry over the fact that Kohli ignored multiple reports in the media that established that the campaign against Mohammad Shami was led by Pakistanis and instead, validated the campaign to malign India.
Jhunjhunu Police in Rajasthan has imposed section 144 during the upcoming Diwali celebrations. A tweet posted on the social media platform by the verified account of Jhunjhunu Police said that prohibitory orders have been issued under Section 144 of the IPC. The restrictions have been imposed on the orders of District Collector Umar Deen Khan.
pic.twitter.com/EYe7vjqPVz
The order issued by the DC said that as people burst firecrackers on Diwali, it leads to many accidents, and there are concerns of loss of life or property due to such accidents. Due to this reason, it is essential to impose prohibitory orders during Diwali.
Apart from imposing section 144, the Junjhunu has banned bursting crackers within 500 meters of entities dealing with petroleum products, and within 100 meters of hospitals and religious spaces. Only green firecrackers are allowed to be used, and they must be used between 8 PM and 10 PM.
In an order issued earlier, the Jhunjhunu police had also prohibited people from playing any religious songs or raising any slogans that can hurt the religious sentiments of people from different religious backgrounds. As it didn’t mention any religion, the order meant that firecrackers were banned in Hindu temples also. However, the police later issued an amended order which removed this restriction.
Jhunjhunu police have said that restrictions have been imposed in Jhunjhunu district by the District Collector from 01.11.2021 to 06.11.2021 in view of the possibility of breach of law and order and threat to public safety and public peace in view of the present circumstances and Diwali festival.
BJP leaders have opposed the decision of the Jhunjhunu administration to impose section 144 during Diwali. Calling it a Tughlaki order, BJP district president Pawan Mawandia said that Diwali is celebrated in the night, when people do puja of goddess Lakshmi and meet each other, and imposing section 144 during this time is shameful.
Mawandia said that children celebrate Diwali by bursting firecrackers, lighting diyas, but District Collector Umar Deen Khan has attacked the fun of children by issuing the Tughlaki order. He added that it is wrong to issue such an order during the biggest festival of Hundi religion.
Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had ordered a complete ban on firecrackers throughout the state of West Bengal during the upcoming Diwali/Kali Puja celebrations.
Purti Realty, a real estate group based in West Bengal, has alleged that three of its engineers were kidnapped by the aides of TMC MLA Ashima Patra. “Respected Mam, we with folded hands request your good self to strictly look into the matter and save the investment environment of the state initiated by you,” Purti Realty’s managing director Mahesh Agarwal pleaded West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in the mail. He added that “these types of local goons are spoiling the image and creating the fear factor for our West Bengal peace loving environment.”
A glaring example of how a businessman became a victim of extortion. His employees got kidnapped!
It shows how Mamata Banerjee is running the extortion industry in West Bengal with the help of her MLA’s and party cadres. The prime reason why Bengal reeks of backwardness! pic.twitter.com/dsQiHlC1uH
Sharing the mail on Twitter, Locket Chatterjee said the incident of businessman becoming a victim of extortion “shows how Mamata Banerjee is running the extortion industry in West Bengal with the help of her MLA’s and party cadres. The prime reason why Bengal reeks of backwardness.”
