Pakistan: Tablighi Jamaat leader kidnaps Hindu boy, demands conversion to Islam as ransom for releasing

In a video shared by a Pakistani lawyer and activist, Rahat Austin, on Twitter, a Hindu woman belonging to the Bheel tribe in Nasarpur village in Matiari in the Sindh province of Pakistan, can be seen putting up a strong resistance against forced conversion to Islam.

As per the video, a Hindu boy was abducted by the leader of Tablighi Jamaat, an Islamic Missionary Movement, in Sindh. Besides, houses belonging to Bheel Hindus have been ransacked and vandalised. Their properties have been illegally grabbed and forced to vacate their own houses.

The mother of the boy can be heard demanding the release of his son. She reiterated, “We will prefer to die but never ever convert to Islam.” It must be mentioned that the kidnappers of the Hindu boy have been seeking the conversion of Hindu families to Islam as a ransom to release the boy.

In the viral video, the woman is seen lying on the ground and expressing her anguish over the abduction of her son by Tablighi Jamaat members. She is surrounded by other Hindus who are seen staging a demonstration against the same with Urdu posters in hand. In another video, the brave Hindu woman speaks to the camera and reiterates her demand to release her son while making it crystal clear that she will not give in demands to convert to Islam

Forceful Conversions of Hindus

This is not the first time that such an incident has come to light. On Friday, a Hindu couple was forcibly converted to Islam at a mosque in the city of Nawabshah in the Sindh district of Pakistan. The conversion was undertaken by a local Imam (Islamic Cleric) named Hamid Qadri. Another Muslim leader associated with the Jamaat Ahle Sunnat was also present at the time of the forced conversion. The couple was handed cash following their conversion to Islam.

ISRO facilities to be opened up for private firms, startups; central govt to bring a new liberal geospatial data policy

While addressing the media on Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the government wants the private sector to be co-traveller in the space sector journey of the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). Nirmala Sitharaman in a press conference along with Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said, “The Indian Space Research Organisation has brought a lot of laurels to the country. However, the private sector is also doing a lot of work in the arena now. We want the Indian Private sector to be a co-traveller in India’s space sector journey.”

The finance minister said that a liberal geospatial data policy will be announced by the government that will allow tech entrepreneurs to tap Indian remote sensing satellite data to build applications for areas such as agriculture. Currently, most of them are “paying through their nose” to get these data from foreign companies, she said.

She further added, “We will provide a predictable policy and regulatory environment to private players. They will be allowed to use the ISRO facilities and other relevant assets to improve their capacities.”

“We want to help Indian startups that are doing pioneering work,” Sitharaman added.

Indian Space Research Organisation is the space agency of the Indian government and has its headquarters in Bengaluru. Now the facilities and technology the ISRO comprises will be availed by the Private sector as well.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the fourth tranche of the Modi government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” package worth Rs 20 lakh crores to restart the economy following the coronavirus lockdown.

The fourth tranche of the economic package focussed on eight sectors – coal, minerals, defense production, airspace managements/airports/MRO, power distribution companies in UTs, the space sector, and atomic energy.

Islamic propaganda website Alt News lies about OpIndia report, alleges OpIndia invented the recorded comments made by father of murdered minor boy in Bihar

Update: An investigation by Bihar DGP says that there is no communal angle in Rohit Jaiswal’s death. The victim’s father has changed his statements quite a few times. The father had alleged that his son was sacrificed to make the mosque powerful by Muslims, which police investigation has found untrue. Eventually, father has also disowned the allegations.

On Saturday, Islamic propaganda site masquerading as factchecker Alt News published an article accusing OpIndia of spreading lie. Referring to the reports on OpIndia covering the gruesome murder of a minor Hindu boy in Bihar, Alt News alleged that OpIndia invented an allegation that the boy Rohit Jaiswal was murdered as a sacrifice by some Muslim people to make their mosque stronger.

Doing a fact check, the propaganda site concluded that OpIndia had published fake news regarding the murder case, as the FIR registered in the case does not mention about the mosque angle. Even after they say that OpIndia reports had quoted the father of the victim, they still went ahead to allege that the report was incorrect. ‘From where and how OpIndia created this story, only themselves can answer this’, they wrote.

AltNews article

If Alt News had read the OpIndia reports carefully, they would have found the answer to their question in those reports. OpIndia didn’t invent the allegation that Rohit Jaiswal was murdered at a mosque, probably as a sacrifice for the mosque. The reports had merely quoted Rajesh Jaiswal, the father of the boy, who had levelled this allegation. The allegation was made by the father of the boy, and OpIndia report had merely quoted him. When OpIndia had spoken to Rajesh Jaiswal over the phone on May 9, he had alleged that his son was killed in a newly constructed mosque as a sacrifice.

But later when some media reports said that he has made a u-turn now and withdrawn his allegation on the sacrifice, OpIndia had again called him on 14th May, when he had said that his earlier statement was not confirmed, but he had said that on the basis of a suspicion. He didn’t deny that earlier he had made the allegation. Moreover, he did reiterate that the maulvis in the mosque used to sprinkle water on his son, raising the suspicion that they were trying to do something with him.

The Alt News report also quotes the post mortem report to claim that Rohit died due to drowning, there is no mention of any serious injury in the report. Thus, they are claiming that not only OpIndia, but also the grieving parents of a brutally murdered son is lying. They are also conveniently totally ignoring the other angle of the case, which the alleged police inaction and brutality on the parents.

Rajesh Jaiswal had himself alleged that Kateya SHO had admitted to him that he had got the autopsy report changed. The police officer Ashwini Tiwari had refused to register the case and misbehaved with the parents, a fact recorded on video. According to Rajesh, Tiwari threw an open challenge in front of the bereaved family that they could apply all their resources if they want but they would not be able to do him any harm. Rajesh claimed that he kept receiving constant threats from the accused, but did not receive any help from the police or the administration.

In fact, Rohit’s father had already refuted the claim that Rohit died because of drowning. Showing the photographs of his dead son, he had asked, ‘does this photo look like he died of drowning? Has the boy drank even a little water?’ Rajesh had alleged that the police had taken money from the killers and made a false report on the death. The photographs of the deceased indeed do not suggest that the boy had died of drowning.

It may be noted that the SHO of Kateya police station Ashwni Tiwari has been suspended after Bihar DGP visited the place to take stock of the situation. This suggests that there is truth in the allegation of the father that Tiwari misbehaved with them, and probably fabricated the autopsy report.

Therefore, to rely on such a questionable report to allege that the father of the deceased boy is lying and he was not murdered is very unfortunate, that too for someone which claims to be fact-checker. It is Rajesh Jaiswal who had made the mosque sacrifice allegation, who said that his father didn’t die of drowning, and that police had tried to bury the case by fabricating evidence. But in an attempt to malign OpIndia, Alt News didn’t hesitate to label the grieving the father as a liar.

In another laughable to attempt to shield the accused in the case, Alt News also tried to suggest that the practice of sacrifice does not exist in Islam. Quoting one Islamic scholar, they wrote that there is no tradition to sacrifice animal to anyone except Allah, there is no provision of human sacrifice. This is laughable, because the father didn’t say that his son was sacrifice for some other Muslim god, he said his son was sacrificed for mosque, which is nothing but a place of worship to Allah. Every religious activity in a mosque is done in the name of Allah, as Muslims as not allowed to worship anything else. Therefore, if the boy was indeed sacrificed, it would be for Allah only.

The claim that Islam does not have provision for human sacrifice also does not matter here, as no major religion actually allow human sacrifice in the current era. Whatever such sacrifices are done, they are done individually. Moreover, although the animal sacrifice was common in Hinduism, it has almost disappeared baring few temples in eastern India. But widespread animal sacrifice in Islam still continues as the Eid al-Adha or Eid Qurban, also known as Bakrid, where millions of animals like cow, goat, camel etc are sacrificed every year all across the world. Therefore, it is possible that some superstitious people in Islam may also believe in human sacrifice.

In conclusion, it is a fact that the father of the boy had initially made the allegations of sacrificing his son for the mosque, OpIndia didn’t invent it like Alt News was alleging. Plus, the FIR and the autopsy report in this case are not dependable at present as the father has claimed that the police officer had fabricated them, and the police officer has been suspended after that, suggesting that there is some merit in the allegations of Rajesh Jaiswal.

Alt News themselves said that only OpIndia can answer about the questions they are raising, but they didn’t bother to contact OpIndia to know the answers before publishing the report in attempt to slander OpIndia, but in the process, they ended up slandering Rajesh Jaiswal.

MHA launches National Migrant Information System to monitor the movement of migrants and contact tracing

The Ministry of Home Affairs has launched the National Migrant Information System (NMIS) in order to track the movement of migrant labourers amid the coronavirus lockdown. The portal is based on a central repository on migrant workers to ease their movements towards their native places. The NMIS is based on the existing National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s GIS portal.

MHA has directed all the states to upload data on the NMIS dashboard for better coordination, monitoring the movement of migrants from one state to another, and contact tracing.

Features of NMIS

States can upload batch files of individual migrants with their data such as name, age, mobile no, originating & destination, date of travel – data which has already been collected by states.

The key data pertaining to the persons migrating has been standardized for uploading such as name, age, mobile number, originating and destination district, date of travel, etc., which states are already collecting.

States will be able to visualize how many people are going out from where and how many are reaching destination states.

The mobile numbers of people can be used for contact tracing and movement monitoring during COVID-19.

A unique ID is generated for each migrant, which can be used for all transactions

GOI nodal minitries can also monitor the movement of migrants through this portal.

Shramik special trains

The Indian Railways operated ‘Shramik special trains’ to facilitate the migrant labourers get back to their natives. Earlier on Thursday, the Central government allowed the State and union territories to ferry passengers buses to the migrant workers reaching the railway stations. The centre is claiming the 85 per cent cost of tickets while 15 per cent will be afforded by the state government.

As per reports, the India railways have operated 1704 Shramik special trains which ferried 14 lakh workers.

Delhi Police pulls up The Hindu for its “factually incorrect” report on Delhi riots, calls it a piece of either “pure indolence” or “crass communalism”

A day after calling out notorious fake news peddler ‘The Wire’ for its false reportage, the Delhi Police today slammed another left-leaning media organisation-‘The Hindu’ for its misleading news report on the Anti-CAA riots that rocked the National Capital earlier this year.

Criticising an article titled ‘Rescripting north-east Delhi riots – and the question of justice’ that was published in ‘The Hindu’ today, the Delhi Police, in its response, claimed that the article was “factually incorrect” and was based on “wholly unverified sources and conjectural information”. In a scathing attack against the article published in ‘The Hindu’, the Delhi Police stated that the content of the article makes one arrive at an “incontrovertible conclusion” of either “pure indolence” or “crass communalism”.

Casting aspersions on the article published on ‘The Hindu’, the Delhi Police, in its rejoinder, claimed that the fact that the report admitted that the Delhi-based civil rights group, Peoples Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) was only acquainted with a handful of the total FIRs, precisely just 6 per cent of the total FIRs, says a lot about their motivations. It added that while the PUDR has taken upon itself to treat the Delhi riots as unidimensional, the Delhi Police is not suffering from the same “cognitive disability”. It stated that the police actions in cases of riots are guided by the twin principle of providing relief to the victims and ensuring legal actions against the perpetrators.

The Delhi Police also criticised the PUDR for its “dismal ability” in speculating the number and nature of arrests made in the Delhi riots cases. The statement said, “As per the records about 1300 accused have been arrested in over 750 cases concerning the riots. To the sheer discomfort of PUDR and its likes, in terms of the proportion of the arrested accused, the numbers from two communities are almost identical.”

The statement also added that the arrests made by the Delhi Police are based on scientific and technical evidence. Each arrested accused was produced before the District Magistrate and legal aid in form of Private counsel or a Legal aid counsel from the Delhi Legal Services Authority was made available for them, the police said. It further advised the PUDR to revisit its assertions which will make them realise that they have erroneously ascribed motives to Delhi Police.

“The allegations of malafide arrests falls flat on its face as several writ petitions have been filed in the honourable courts by “activists” with similar allegations where Delhi Police have responded and in none of the cases the Honourable Courts have not passed any adverse remarks,” the statement said.

Delhi Police also urged the PUDR to reorient its conscience by referring to the list of people who have applied for compensation from the Delhi administration and asserted that the sufferance has been almost equal for all the victims.

The Delhi Police also said that the PUDR’s tactics of “surreptitiously” cherry-picking FIRs and based on the selective set of complaints concluding that grievances of one community have not been recorded properly and non bailable sections have been diluted to grant relief to other community is testimony to the group’s “lopsided intellectual capabilities”, “single community bias”, “fragmentation” and “sectarian approach”.

Delhi Police has also slammed PUDR for extrapolating its conspiracy theories and conjoining the issue of action against Chairman of Delhi Minority Commission, Zafarul-Islam-Khan, under Unlawful Prevention Act with the North-East Delhi riots. The Delhi Police stated in no uncertain terms that the conduct of Zafarul-Islam-Khan and the subsequent action against him is totally separate and distinct from the North-East riots.

The statements assert that the report published in ‘The Hindu’ attempts to twist facts to paint the Delhi Police as communally biased. Furthermore, the Delhi Police has also accused the PUDR of making a false case against them by alleging that the police did not register complaints of victims belonging to a particular community. It said that the PUDR has been “over-zealous” to arrive at its predecided conclusion of “Rescripting” of the North-East riots.

What was The Hindu report about?

The report titled ‘Rescripting north-east Delhi riots – and the question of justice’ said that the Delhi Police had been particularly prejudiced in dispensing its duties in the matters concerning the Delhi riots. The report accused the police of stonewalling the justice in the north-east riots cases, selectively and aggressively pursuing a few FIRs and attempting to project the riots as a premeditated conspiracy.

Citing the Muslim casualties of the Delhi riots, which stood at 38 of the total 53, the article asserted that Delhi Police is taking action against anti-CAA protesters because they are Muslims. Alleging the Delhi Police of communal bias, the report states that the Delhi Police had let off Hindu aggressors while they have come down particularly hard against the Muslims, including “illegal detentions of Muslims” and refusing to cooperate with Muslims for filing FIR reports.

The report makes a reference to the 40 FIRs accessed by a Delhi-based civil rights group, Peoples Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) to allege that there has been discrepancies in the filing of the FIRs. It states that several Muslims have faced problems while registering FIRs while non bailable sections against Hindu accused have been evidently dropped. “Given the evidence in this small sample of FIRs, the communal bias of police in the north-east Delhi riots is evident in the manner in which the FIRs have been lodged by them,” the report read.

The report further adds that detentions have been used by Delhi Police as an instrument of intimidation. It has raised aspersions on the Delhi Police by questioning the coincidence of recent arrests of anti-CAA rioters belonging to the Jamia Millia Islamia University. The report also includes the recent punitive action against the Chairman of the Delhi Minority Commission to reinforce its assertion that the Delhi Police has been selectively targeting Muslims and not treating its subjects equally and aiding those who are guilty of carrying out the riots.

Gopalganj murder case: Kateya police SHO suspended after parents of the murdered boy had alleged misbehaviour towards them

Update: We have updated the story after the investigation by Bihar DGP. The victim’s father has changed his statements quite a few times. The father had alleged that his son was sacrificed to make the mosque powerful by Muslims, which police investigation has found untrue. Eventually, father has also disowned the allegations.

The SHO of the Kateya police station in Gopalganj in Bihar has been suspended after a man had alleged that the police officer had abused him and his wife when they had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint about their son’s murder. SHO Ashwini Tiwari was suspended after the DGP of Bihar police visited Gopalganj to probe about the incident.

On Saturday, Bihar DGP Gupteswar Pandey visited the Bela Dih village under Kateya police station to probe the murder of a minor Hindu boy named Rohit Jaiswal. The DGP met the family members of Jaiswal and asked them to not be afraid of anyone in getting justice for their son. Talking to media, Pandey said that police will conduct the investigation into the Rohit Jaiswal on priority and basis and will ensure the strictest punishment for the perpetrators.

The DGP talked to various people to understand actually what had happened in the incident. After realising the Kateya SHO’s misbehaviour towards the parents of the victim, he ordered for his immediate suspension.

As earlier reported, on May 10, Rohit Jaiswal was allegedly killed by some people in the village. His body was then thrown into a nearby river. The family of the boy had alleged that when they reached the police station with a complaint about the incident, they were brutally beaten up by the police. According to the family member’s claims, the conditions became so hostile that the family was compelled to leave the village and relocate to somewhere in Uttar Pradesh.

Rajesh Jaiswal, the father of the victim, had claimed that when he had gone to the police station with his wife to plead for justice, they were ill-treated by the police station in-charge, Ashwini Tiwari. The police officer had thrown them out of the police station, he had alleged. Jaiswal had also alleged that Tiwari had confessed that he had got Rohit’s autopsy report changed.

Update: We have updated the story after the investigation by Bihar DGP. The victim’s father has changed his statements quite a few times. The father had alleged that his son was sacrificed to make the mosque powerful by Muslims, which police investigation has found untrue. Eventually, father has also disowned the allegations.

“How could you embarrass an embarrassment?”: Union Minister Smriti Irani on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi

In an interview on Times Now, Union Minister of Textiles, Smriti Irani weighed in on a range of issues, from India’s readiness in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic to issue of Congress leaving no stone unturned in shielding economic offenders like Nirav Modi. However, Smriti was particularly scathing in her attack against the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi whom she referred to as an “embarrassment”.

Responding about a tweet that was posted by Rahul Gandhi wherein he drew a similarity between fugitive Nirav Modi and PM Modi, Ms Irani said that tweet comparing Nirav Modi with PM Modi and calling them both “looters”, Smriti Irani said, “Rahul Gandhi’s two characterisations that I have seen personally-one hypocrisy and second shamelessness and I am absolutely not shocked of his perverse behaviour because this is the conduct he has been part of for a very very long time.”

Taken aback by the high-intensity attack against Rahul Gandhi, journalist Navika Kumar of Times Now asked Smriti Irani if this is her way of embarrassing Rahul Gandhi just because he has accused the BJP of facilitating the escape of the economic offenders. Smriti Irani, in a witty riposte to Ms Kumar’s question, rhetorically asked, “How could you embarrass an embarrassment?” It’s an oxymoron.”

When asked further if she dislikes Rahul Gandhi for brutally laying into him, Smriti Irani responded that she couldn’t care less about him. She also added that when a man is touching 50 and has never had any productive job in his life, he cannot elicit respect from her as an individual.

“If you stand in the capital of India and say you support “Bharat ke tukde honge”, I don’t have an iota of respect for such individuals,” Union Minister Smriti Irani said.

“How can you blame his(Rahul Gandhi) genetic challenge on the BJP?” Smriti Irani slammed Rahul Gandhi for his inability to be coherent in his political speeches.

MS Irani also accused the Congress party of supporting economic offenders such as Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, alluding to Congress member former HC judge Abhay Thipsay who appeared as a defence witness in the UK courts to defend economic offender Nirav Modi.

The Union Minister of Textiles also defended the government in its move to call out the Tablighi Jamaat for not complying with the government mandates and aiding in spreading the virus across the country. Responding to the charges of communalisation of pandemic levelled against the government, Ms Irani said, “When the media reports organisations and entities that have not only supported the government but have imperilled the society at large and endangered society’s safety at risk and they happen to have a name called Tablighi Jamaat, do you expect government officers, who have taken constitutional oath should lie to the country by shielding their name?”

Talking about the government’s stand on the Pulitzer prize that was recently given to three Kashmiri journalists, Smriti Irani decried the awards saying that the citation on the photographs that described Kashmir as “Indian controlled Kashmir” was enough for the BJP government at the centre to denounce the recognition.

Lava International to shift mobile phone manufacturing, R&D from China to India, to invest ₹800 crores in next 5 years

The Indian mobile handset manufacturer, Lava International, has announced that it will shift its Design, Manufacturing, Research, and Development (R & D) hub from China to India in the following 6 months. The company will also invest ₹80 crores within the next 5 years in the Indian market and a total of ₹800 crores over the following 5 years. This move will give a major boost to union govt campaigns such as ‘Make in India’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Local me liye Vocal’ initiative.

The decision by the Lava company comes at the backdrop of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) announced by the Union Government in April, amidst the Coronavirus lockdown. Under the scheme, an incentive of 4-6% will be extended to incremental sales of goods that are manufactured in India for a period of 5 years. The increment will be subject to the base year of sales. The purpose of the scheme was to provide a level-playing ground to the domestic companies.

Official Statement by Lava

According to Chairman and Managing Director of Lava, Hari Om Rai, the production linked incentives would help the company overcome ‘manufacturing disabilities’ to a large extent. He added, “We have been eagerly looking forward to an opportunity to shift our entire mobile R&D, design, and manufacturing from China to India.”

Lava which reportedly exports 33% handsets to Mexico, West Asia, and Southeast Asia also manufacture and customises products of other companies. While the Indian mobile phone market is dominated by Chinese and Korean phones, Indian Companies like Micromax, Intex, Lava, Karbonn etc are still operating in the market, mainly in the feature phone and low-end smartphone segments. While most Chinese and Korean firms have already moved their production to India in the last 5 years to cater to huge domestic demand, Indian firms are still using facilities in China to make their phones due to cost advantages. But with the changed global scenario after Coronaviurs, not these manufacturers have also now started to move their productions to India.

The mobile handset industry suffers from 8.5-11% disability, inadequate infrastructure, limited design capabilities, and inadequate skill development, besides poor quality power, According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Korean firms interested in India

Earlier, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) chairman Yongmaan Park, seeking to move investments out of China, had shown interest to invest in Uttar Pradesh, stated State MSME and Export promotion Minister Sidharth Nath Singh, amidst the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. Park added that other industrialists and electronic makers from Korea were also interested in exploring investment opportunities in the State.

Mahants of Kashi Vishvanath Mandir bans entry of Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan after he asked govt to appropriate all gold from Hindu temples

Days after former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan stoked a controversy by suggesting the government to extract gold from the Hindu temples in the country to use in the war against Coronavirus, the Mahant fraternity of Shiva’s abode and Jyotirlinga Kashi Vishvanath has decided to ban Chavan and his family from entering the temple situated in Varanasi.

According to the reports, the Mahant of Jyotirlinga Kashi Vishvanath temple has not only decided to ban Chavan and his family from entering the temple situated in Varanasi but also urged other Jyotirlinga temples to take similar action against the Congress leader for his irresponsible comment.

Meanwhile, a former Mahant of the Kashi Vishvanath attacked Congress leader Chavan calling him ‘mentally deranged’.

Earlier, Hindu priests from various trusts had slammed the former Maharashtra Chief Minister Chavan for saying that gold should be taken from religious bodies for combating coronavirus. They had said instead of taking gold from temples, money should be taken from the accounts of Congress workers.

Swamy Paramhans Tapaswi Chhawni said, “Before taking gold from Hindu temples, money should be taken to combat Coronavirus from Congress leaders who have amassed huge wealth since independence.”

Even Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, Uttaradhikari, had alleged that the Congress leaders are involved in anti-national activities. He also questioned former CM that why is he seeking to borrow money from Hindu sects only and not from Churches and Mosques.

Prithviraj Chavan tweeted seeking money from the temples

Prithviraj Chavan had taken to twitter suggesting that Central Government should immediately appropriate all the gold lying with all the religious trusts in the country. He stated that the gold is worth at least $1 trillion, according to the World Gold Council.

While stating that the country is going through an emergency, Chavan mentioned that the gold can be borrowed by the govt through Gold bonds at a low-interest rate.

Chavan affirmed that the gold reserve lying with the religious bodies is worth 1 trillion dollars that is 76 lakh crore rupees. He had further stated, “If it is borrowed from these trusts at a nominal interest rate, the money can be generously spent on the lower middle and poor class to increase their spending capacity.”

The World Gold Council (WGC) has stated that the gold reserves in India which are lying with the religious sects are worth 1 trillion-dollar. Mentioning that Chavan also said that “there is a little scope for raising funds from open market.”
